First off this will be my first review ill make it short and sweet. I freaking love this short film. This is claymation taken to a new level. Its amazing of how detailed it is. If you like gore and lots of blood and zombies this is perfect for you. If you dont like that kind of stuff dont worry its all out clay its perfect for you too. I love this and part 2 on youtube was the cherry on top. I dont know how i found this mal page of Chainsaw maid but im glad i did!
Esta review también está en español. Chainsaw Maid (CM) is the seventh short film made by Nagao Takena, that peculiar man that likes to make clay as violent as possible. Packed with action and violence (especially violence), this could be considered as Takena's most emblematic/important work so far. Why? Well, let's see... CM's story shows us a quiet night, with a normal house, in which a man is reading the newspaper, while his daughter is sent to bed by the maid of the house. With the youngest of the house sleeping, the adults were about to get intimate... however, this would not be the first porn filmmade with clay: the door is knocked really hard, and a wounded woman entered the house, saying "they're coming". Who's coming? An army of implacable, brutal zombies, of course. Armed first with a broom, and then with the weapon that gives the name to this film, this maid will fight with the security of their employers in mind, in a battle with so much blood and gore that would make Quentin Tarantino feel uncomfortable. The animation is very good, at least for the clay genre. The stop-motion is almost flawless: the movements are fast and accurate, and that's very noticeable in the fights, because, unlike most, this zombies are fast and kinda intelligent. The character design is correct, similar to the ones in Bloody Date and Within the Bloody Woods, other works from the author. The scenario (the house) is pretty simple, cardboard and paper. And, as a little detail, sometimes, it looks like is daytime, even if it's supposed to be night xD. The sound is meh. There's barely any music, and the sound effects, such as the punches, sound rather funny (the chainsaw sounds the way it should, so there aren't complains there). And, no voices: the few dialogues in the movie are showed to us in the way of a silent film: black background with white letters (both in english and japanese). To conclude, these are six minutes full of savage violence, with some humorous touches. This is recommendable for people who enjoy the zombie carnage, and the claymation. Plus, if you liked this short, I recommend the other Takena works, especially Bloody Date (which has the same amount of violence, and even a fair story). And as a closing (this time for real :p), I wanted to comment that, due to the popularity of CM, a prequel was made! Chainsaw Maid: Gaiden shows our heroine in her early days as a maid, and how she chose her particular weapon. Unfortunately, this short can't be found anywhere, so if anyone has any info about it, I would be very grateful. But CM doesn’t end there. Although not official, there's also a sequel! CM2 was developed by other people, but is a high-quality work, that follows Takena's original idea. If you enjoyed Chainsaw Maid. you would love the continuation. So, that's it, i hope you enjoyed this n_n.
It was 2a.m in my place. I had 3 tests in a few hours that I haven't studied for , I was worried as fuck. and then some-fucking-how! I came to Chainsaw Maid's MAL page. and I read that it was 6mins long, so I thought, what the heck? imma watch this and go study. I watched it. and it scared the fuck out of my life! Damn! I'll make it short, : 1-3 a.m. Dark and quiet room. be in a bad mood. put your headphones on. and enjoy getting scared watching this shit. Last thing I wanna say is. do not expect a lot fromthis!
Six minutes of your life. What could you be doing with it? Simple, you could be starting a new load of laundry - or you could be cleaning out your fridge. Very bluntly, you could be doing something very time beneficial. What did I decide to do with my six minutes? Watch this. To be fully honest, I’m not exactly regretting the time I spent watching this. It did capture my interest and I was eager to see how the creators played with time here. That in mind, I decided to watch this - after all it was an easy find on youtube. What I was expecting was not in fact what I got. Prior to viewing over this ONA, I had read that it took place in a world where a zombie outbreak has occurred. By the cover and the description however, I had assumed that this maid would be a fully fledged zombie hunter. This might count as a light spoiler so if you’re against that then I recommend skipping this paragraph. Now that is said, I can go on to the skills and personality of the said “fully-prepared” and “fully-loaded” maid. Concluding the six minutes she is rather handy but at first you can see that she’s like a normal person, unprepared but willing to fight to protect her masters. There’s not much I can say here for plot considering the time frame, but definitely it was a cute little thing. I would have rated it better however if they closed it in a bit of a better fashion. Still, I enjoyed it. Would I watch it again? Probably not. But still it’s only six minutes, and this is only my opinion on the ONA. You can go and watch it and decide for yourself if it’s something you like or not. However for me, it’s a solid 5. It’s average but I wouldn’t say by any means that it’s “bad”. I just think they could have completed it with a better “resolution”. Thanks for taking time to read this and using a few minutes of your time. My final say is do what you please. After all, I’m just another reviewer and as every review is, it’s just an opinion. Yours could vary from mine.
Hmm..... Chainsaw Maid is... well... exactly like it sounds. A maid using a chainsaw to fight off zombies, as the description says. But really, there isn't much more to that. I am not saying I didn't enjoy it, but pointing out that there is quite a lack of plot. I really like the animators art style, I love watching their claymations since they are so interesting looking. This is a very bloody claymation, so I reccomend anyone who is eating or who gets scared by gore should not watch this. I gave the 4 a low rating because there wasn't any dialogue, and I donot know about the audio, because... well.... it kinda scared me so I muted it and played music over it. I know, I am abit of a scaredy cat. The characters... hmmm.... they are nice. The little girl is kinda cute, the zombies were cool, and the Chainsaw Maid was quite badass. While it did lack plot, I did quite enjoy it, but I had to give the overall rating a 6 because I couldn't get over the lack of plot. Thanks for reading.
I watched this peculiar short film with no expectations and minute after minute it was impressing me more and more. I don't like the set and character models too much but love the claymation. As a short film not much of a story is needed or expected, but basically there will be a maid slaughtering zombies with a chainsaw and it will be awesome. I don't know about anyone else but I thought this thing was hilarious. I was literally laughing out loud thoughout the films run. But this thing is super gory. I had no idea claymation could be so effectively violent. Overall Ifound Chainsaw Maid to be really fun to watch and reccomend anyone check it out. Hell, it's only six minutes of your time.
