In the year 2035, Team Suzaku and Team Sledge Mamma are preparing to meet in the final round of the 12th Immortal Grand-1 Prix (IG1 or IGPX). Takeshi leads Team Suzaku, which is made up of a group of young amateur pilots who must make the most of their limited funds and weaponry in order to prepare for the competition designed for professionals. This series served as the pilot to the full IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix, each episode is only 5 minutes long or less. A key difference between the two is that this series featured combat mecha competition rather than racing mecha.

Given that there's only about 23 mins to this Micro series across 5 episodes i'm not really taking pacing into consideration. I rated this purely off of proof of concept and what was achieved in the allotted amount of time. I remember seeing this on Toonami when i was about 11 years old and was taken aback by how cool it seemed. After viewing this it left me with a longing for more as it wasn't able to be properly wrapped up. We were then given news that a full series was being adapted due to this micro series success but unfortunately we were metwith the disappointment that they drastically altered the entire premise of IGPX and turned it into nothing more than a racing anime i.e. Robot Nascar. Now the full series wasn't awful but it was nothing compared to this micro series which was significantly better in character designs and personalities as well as overall premise and art style. Forever wishing this to be adapted into a proper full series, perhaps Netflix will pick it up one day as they seem to adapt obscure older anime that we've long since forgotten. Overall i give this a 10/10 for the Nostalgia but critically maybe a 7 due to its limitations of being a micro series.
