Segua Kingdom has been losing the war against Ninterdo Empire but the tables are turned by the appearance of a boy called Gear. All the characters are parodies of Nintendo or Sega games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda etc.

This was a pretty Bad Ova Overall. its looks and sounds fine on paper it even sounds interesting. Unfortunately translating this to a Ova was not a good thing. Reading the Synopsis you can clearly see where the draw for most people would be in that its based on many video game references but they are pretty poor and not well referenced. This Ova had some interesting ideas but they failed to make it into anything noteworthy and the product suffers even more because of it. The Greatest Flaw of this anime is the characters cause you just cant grow to like them at all. Theresis nearly no character development in this Ova so you don't grow attached to anybody or particularly care when somebody dies. It tries to emphasise emotion in a few very well made scenarios but because you have no prior connection to any of the characters it falls on a flat note. Another major problems is all the characters seem very hollow and cliche, nobody feels like a original character except maybe tegilof but he is off putting for other reasons. The third offense to this already mundane and sad roster of characters is the fan service, which in most every other scenario i am ok with but the way they do it is so off putting and out of place that i can't help but want it to go away. I really could go on and on about how i do not care for this underdeveloped band of cliches but i don't see the point of beating that dead horse. The sound and visual quality of this anime is actually rather on par with anything else of average quality. Though the problem with being average is that it doesn't stand out in anyway, it really lacks its own character. That being said there are parts of animation and character design i did and did not like. I did like how some if only a handful of characters had a symbol as to what game they represent in the form of a necklace or earring in some cases, i wish they had done more of that though. I found it almost impossible to figure out who half the people in the show were supposed to represent in the game universe as they looked pretty much like random characters from any anime, some were also really odd references that i have to admit i had never heard of though. Another thing that i found lacking is all the settings seemed really bland and simple. The three major settings i can clearly remember were forest, training hall and dungeon and they all look exactly as what you'd expect when somebody says those titles. The artists played it really safe and didn't put all that much effort into making a really interesting visual experience. The Story's main problem is despite it possibly being tolerable it is done poorly. It starts without a prologue at a scene where you have to question why it starts that way. It stems from the problem you don't care about there characters so all the meaning in this scene is empty and pointless, they should have used a prologue to that scene. The biggest problem facing this short series is the fact that it is a short series, three 20 minute episodes don't take you very far. I actually would have liked to see the characters go off into the different kingdoms and face off against Marcus(Mario). The pacing just could not be done right for this series so they tried to emphasis emotional scenes hence why they start and end with one. It just did not work out though with the lack of character development. Being a really big classic game fan and a even bigger fan of anime i kinda hoped this fusion would turn out at least alright. My hopes were dashed though and i ended up having a really boring and uneventful time. I did not really enjoy it and some people may but it feels more like a time waster, just something to watch when you got nothing else too. So ultimately this gets a 3 and i feel i might be a little generous with that.
If you are looking for a good anime with an engaging story, interesting characters, stunning artwork and an overall epic soundtrack then this anime is not for you, and let me tell you why. Aoi Sekai no Chuusin de also known as World War Blue is the anime equivalent of a Nintendo vs Sega parody done by 5th Avenue, now you would think by that statement that this would be an over the top, comedic anime with many humorous references to Sega and Nintendo. However instead of taking this route it decides to go into an in-depth serious tone which does not suit the mood ofthis show at all, this show completely fails in the sense that it was a parody and tried to be a dark and serious anime with lots of death and emotions. The Characters of WWB are some of the weakest cast of characters i have ever seen, throughout the show you can't seem to relate to any of them, and character deaths are completely void of emotion and meaning. In the very beginning the death of Gear's friend is so out of the blue (see what i did there hehe) that the viewer doesn't care about this character because we get no prologue to the events of WWB and get no insight other then his supposed Sega character that he is based off. The pacing was also inconsistent with the way they were telling the story, this show was presented with the intention of having 12 - 25 episodes when in reality is only a mere 3 episode show. Trying to create a show with that much compressed story is such a ridiculous thing to do that they should have thought of a smaller story that suited the length. Overall i'm keeping this short and sweet in saying that this anime was very disappointing and a complete waste of time, and you should not waste 60 minutes of your life on it.
Since I recently finished what is now my favorite anime, xxxHolic, and I have a tendency to start a show I end up hating after I discover what becomes my favorite anime, I decided to try and watch something short that looked really bad so I wouldn't waste too much time; so, I chose to watch this show. Man what a mistake that was! What is Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de (which translates to mean World War Blue, and as such, I will be referring to the series as it's translated name), you might ask? Well, have you seen Excel Saga? Have youseen Wreck-It Ralph? Have you ever inhaled paint fumes to get high? If the answer to those 3 questions is "Yes", then congratulations! You've seen World War Blue. The story of World War Blue is basically a fantasy version of the console war between Nintendo and Sega, with Nintendo being the villains. It's pretty basic from there. For characters, we have Gear, our main character who is supposed to a parody be Sonic the Hedgehog (insert joke about going fast here), standard strong female character Oppai-I mean Opal (who's supposed to be a parody of one of the characters from Fantasy Zone; I guess she's supposed to be the love interest for Gear; and if you couldn't figure it out from the "nickname" I gave her, she's also the show's "Ms. Fanservice" character), Nel (Gear's younger sister who's an extremely useless character, and a parody of Nei from Phantasy Star 2), Til (who's a parody of Tails from Sonic; he dies at the start, so we feel no connection to his character due to the fact that we didn't get to know him, and we are unaffected by his death) and easily the most bizarre character of them all, Tejilof, a gigantic pervert who's a parody of Tetris of all things (I'm not kidding) - in fact, Tejilof is such a pervert that one of the first things he does is literally grope Ramsus, the general for the army of the country that represents Sega. The only action scenes that were actually remotely interesting were the ones involving Opal, mainly because she seems to undergo the closest thing this show has to character development - she decides to push her ability, which allows her to fire bursts of energy from her fingers, to her limit, which causes her pain. One of the few good things about this show is that it actually does look good - and the sound isn't bad, either. It's a shame that the rest of the anime doesn't look as good. Lastly, there were 2 franchises that seemed absent that had a good reason to be present - the first was Mortal Kombat; I feel it was absent, since both Sega and Nintendo got a copy of Mortal Kombat, but Sega did not censor their version. It would have made much more sense to have a character who's a parody of Mortal Kombat instead of one who's a parody of Tetris - and some might argue that having a living parody of Mortal Kombat would make this show too violent, but the amount of fanservice already makes this inappropriate for kids. The other franchise that seemed absent was Megaman - but I actually consider this a good thing, since I grew up playing Megaman. And I would have hated for Megaman to be associated with this piece of work. I guess if I had to say one good thing about this anime, it has made me kind of curious to try the manga, which looks a lot better. Alternative recommendations: Log Horizon, Excel Saga, Wreck-It Ralph, Ixion Saga DT
STORY: The plot containing the battle between two kingdoms is very interesting. I really enjoy watching through the Segua Army's perspective on winning the war. There are a lot of gaming references that are hilarious and at times mind blowing! Note: This anime ONLY has 3 episodes. CHARACTERS: Since there are a lot of gaming references in the anime, the anime is mainly focused on one character! SEGUA ARMY = Sega NINTELDO KINGDOM = Nintendo Gear = (Sonic). He is passionate, strong, powerful and has super speed. OVERALL: Not bad, but needs A LOT OF WORK! 3 episodes did not do it justice. Since the anime did not useALL of the characters from both kingdoms... I feel that it is waste! I recommend this anime to everyone who loves to see their favourite gaming characters from their respective franchises in an anime. ♥
Personally I enjoyed what I did see of this, of course considering I'm a teenage guy whose always liked shounen anime, I did not think it was good enough to continue on by reading the manga. I think that the anime could have potential if they would make more episodes, however with the very few episodes they actually made it makes it mediocre at best. I agree with other views in that I believe it was a good idea, but it didn't really pan out.
Do not watch this anime. I'm not saying this like how people always do with Boku no Pico to get them to watch it NO do NOT watch this anime. I haven't been this bored from an anime since the first two episodes of Bakemonogatari. While the story is somewhat decent, the way its shown makes it feel like an animated version of someone's weird crossover fanfiction (and it literally is but ??? Eh. people eat up light novel adaptions everyday). The unreasonable amounts of Girls Gettin Touched And Randomly Censored But Naked felt extremely out of place since most of the scenes are primarilyaction based and serious (as well as Tetris Character. Fuck That Guy and Fuck Characters Like Those). Characters were uhh... there. Sonic The Main Character was the least annoying out of all of them (thank goodness). His Weird Elf Sister felt barely there throughout the three episodes and it felt like she had less screen-time than Every Girl Characters' Crotch (i'm serious about this there's too many shots of just CROTCH). Opal (whose name I had to look up because I didn't bother to remember it) was a weird character because when they first appeared, they were fine! Neat archer character! But then after A Single Battle it seemed that the stars aligned and bestowed the dreaded title of Horrid Shy Fanservice Character onto her. Rest in peace. And like I mentioned before, I disliked anytime Tetris Fucker was on screen. Get that guy outta here. I also kinda wished they expanded more on the Nintendo-Based Characters cause at least those were slightly more interesting. In conclusion: I expected a lot more and was extremely disappointed. Do you wanna watch a GOOD Videogame Based Anime? Watch SeHa Girls. Watch any anime adaption of a videogame. Heck, watch the western Darkstalkers cartoon. Just PLEASE love yourself and DO NOT WATCH THIS
I can sum this anime up with the 8 deadly words: I don't care what happens to these people. Oh boy, this OVA. Let me tell you, I am not going to be pleasant towards it. I'm honestly glad this only had 3 episodes. Have you ever wanted to see an anime about the 90s console war between Nintendo and Sega, even though we should be way past that now? I kinda hope you aren't, because this will be just a waste of your time. Story: I'll admit, despite it being ahead of its time, I was a bit intrigued by the premise, especially since I lovevideo games and I have fondness towards Nintendo and Sega, especially Nintendo. However, that intrigue was lost when it became obvious what it really was. This anime, for some reason, chooses to be really biased towards Sega while painting Nintendo as the villains. We get most of the screen time with Segua characters, while there isn't nearly enough screen time with Ninteldo characters. I think this would've been a bit more interesting if it ended up focusing on both sides, like there being good and bad apples on both sides and their motivations. But nope, you're not gonna get ANY of that. Another problem is that there actually isn't that much plot, or at least not one I found interesting. The only plot I can get out of this is our main protagonist joining and winning this war against an empire. NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. Now, this wouldn't be so bad, except it's not done well at all. Any plot that's there is cliche and predictable. to the point the show ends up becoming more of a chore to watch than it should be. If you don't know what I mean, look at any fantasy story ever and that's pretty what you'll get out of this. RATING: 2 Art and Sound: I'm grouping up these two because I can say the same thing about both of them. The art and music aren't bad, per say, but nothing stands out at all about them. The characters just look like your typical anime characters, the environments and backgrounds are really basic fantasy, and the music is not necessarily something I want to listen to again and again. RATING: 5 Characters: I'm sorry, was there character development in this anime? I think I forgot. These characters are about as bland as you can get. Their ONLY intrigue you'll get from them is that they're based on Nintendo and Sega characters, but even then, are you really gonna be intrigued by them in the end? This show doesn't really bother to build them up properly. Gear (Sonic), our main protagonist, is introduced as his best friend/sibling, who is a stand in for Tails, dies, is angered by this, and is driven to become stronger because of this. But since neither of them are really interesting, I just ended up not caring about them. Opal is the "main heroine", but is really just there to be the fanservice character that most of the characters lust over and who fans can get their rocks off to and I guess she's Gear's love interest. She starts off as your typical man-hating tsundere who mellows down after Gear shows up in her life. Again, you're not given much screen time of their relationship, so why should you care? Also, gotta have her hardly wear anything and make her look like a walking sex object. Opal? MORE LIKE OPPAI AMIRITE? (Ok, that just sounded dumb...) But in all seriousness, I honestly wish anime would do this less and less, because that's something I was always annoyed by. Also, she's apparently a badass, but she mostly doesn't do anything that is badass worthy. She gets defeated by the main character in the first episode (Again, TOTALLY HAVE NOT SEEN THAT BEFORE). That's pretty much all you need to know. There are other characters like Niel, Gear's sister who pretty much does nothing and is just there to be the cute sister character, and Teijlof, who is a....Tetris parody that's a pervert.....WHY??? Then you have Marcus (Mario), who's the tyrannic leader of Ninteldo, Zelig (Link), who is for lack of a better word, insane, and other characters who are just background characters, like...a Kirby parody who is a pink haired girl that has sizable breasts....okay, I'm done talking about the characters. Nice representation of Nintendo, anime (Not really. Then again, this kinda applies to Sega too). RATING: 1 Enjoyment: At best, I was bored since there's mostly just talking, and at worst, I was annoyed and disgusted, especially with the fanservice and the obvious bias towards Sega. Any jokes there are, I mostly just react like "UGGHH, I get it, it's a sexual joke about Tetris." Surely, you won't get sick of that joke the 10th time we tell them. The action sucks too, especially since there's really hardly any of it. I was just waiting for it to end, and I'm really glad it did. There was hardly anything I enjoyed in this anime. RATING: 1 Overall: This feels like a Sega fanbrat/Nintendo hater's wet dream come true. This is one of those anime that disappoints me on a personal level. It's an anime that sounds interesting, but it doesn't really seem like there was that much effort put into it. This OVA just ended up being worse than I thought it would be. You can read fanfiction of the Console War and enjoy them more than this anime. I don't recommend watching it at all. RATING: 2/10
As I have seen from other people reviewing this anime, is based on different video games? I am not sure as I am not that cultured in video games. Given the fact that the anime had only 3 episodes, I didn`t really get to appreciate it, sometimes animes that are this short are not well made. Usually, if an anime is short, it should have all the key elements in those few episodes, but I feel like with this, it only brought me confusion. Overall, the art style is cute and simple, it reminds me of Sinbad. The characters are simple and I do not remember much.
When I found out there was a Anime based on the console war between Nintendo and Sega I immediately went and watched it Honestly the premise is cooler the the actual show itself, the storyline is pretty lacking (But to be fair there's only three episodes) and character wise it's pretty plain with none of the characters really standing out that much just generic NPCs Now I haven't read the Manga but I'll probably read and review that as well just to see if it's any different, There was a lot of potential here but sadly the only mildly interesting thing here was the parodies of Sonicand ect My rankings for this just a plain 5/10, Not worst thing in the world but definitely not the greatest
