Meimi Haneoka, 14, is a normal girl during the daytime, but during the night, she assumes the "position" of Saint Tail, a modern-day Robin Hood who steals from thieves and gives items back to their original owners. She is aided by her friend, Seira Mimori, a nun-in-training, and she is chased by her classmate (and soon-to-be love interest), Daiki Asuka (often called "Asuka Jr."). (Source: ANN)

If you\'re looking for a good cops and robbers / cat and mouse anime like Lupin the 3rd, keep looking - because even though this series is about a thief and a detective trying to catch her, the robberies aren\'t really what you will watch out for. In fact, I would describe Saint Tail as a love story or romance anime extended over 43 episodes. The thefts are merely a backdrop to the developing romance between Meimi Haneoka and Asuka Jr. Meimi, of course, is Saint Tail and the young detective trying to catch her is her classmate Asuka Jr. You\'ll have to suspend your disbeliefwith this one as one impossibility after another keep Saint Tail out of the cops\' grasp. And another thing - it\'s not as if she actually hurt anybody. Who will persecute someone who steals somebody\'s running shoes and return them to the original owner, anyway? But as I said, you won\'t really dwell that much on the robberies. Like me, you\'ll probably get hooked on Meimi and Asuka Jr. and waiting for the moment that Asuka Jr. finally catches Saint Tail. Lighthearted and cute, this anime is definitely one of my favorite classics.
Saint Tail is incrediby similar to Kaitou Jeanne, but i'd prefer St. Tail better. St. Tail was so cute, this type of romance is hard to find nowadays. If you haven't watched it yet, you are really missing out. St. Tail is your average, typical middle school girl, who secretly turns into Mysterious Kaitou (Thief) Saint Tail. This was such a sweet and amazing anime, i cried when it was over with...It was so good, i even considered asking Japan to make another series, like season 2, but I realize now that i am statisfied, even without season 2, i will enjoy St. Tail forever.
Okay I first would like to make clear that everything I say here is my own opinion and I will give my reasoning, a full fleshed review of three pages is not necessary. Those of you who are thinking of passing this anime by as a bad graphical oldie I suggest you give the first few episodes a watch this show while the art is fairly average for its time it uses color and the magic tricks as a backdrop for Saint Tail's capers and the use of illusions really males up for much of the lack of sophisticated graphics. Art is a 7ish give or take what you will. The sound track itself shines throughout the show really setting the tone the entire time, the ops and eds are cute but nothing jaw dropping. 9 for me in sound. I loved the character development of the family of both Asuka Jr and his dad Police duo and daughter of a magician Meimi and her parents and Ruby. These characters plus Seira, transfer mayor girl and Saru kun also get some fleshing out of their own. Hell even the main bad guys typically get like 2 episodes for themselves so I give character a 9. 10 for enjoyment I loved this show so much I reached it immediately, yes a 44 episode show. You may be wondering why I left Story for last, well mostly because it's the shortest but a complex woven tale. This show really centers around the love story between Meimi and Asuka Jr. this is not a only because it is well established in the first episode there seems to be nothing that stands in the way of these feelings. Knowing this before the watching bears no harmful results on ones enjoyment because this show is a love story woven throughout and everything else is merely a backdrop for it to grow. To quote Shakespeare: Life is but a game, men and women, merely players.
Basically, I love this Robin Hood meets Sailor Moon kind of thing, from beginning to end I wa always curious to what the next robbery was gonna be and how would she do it, I also loved to see love between her and her classmate/detective junior that was after her
Kaitou Saint teeru is an anime not to be underestimated.. I watched this anime because in generally I am a huge fan of shoujo romance animes, aswell as oldschool ones.. and alltho I was kinda sceptical to the plot upon reading... I forgot about that pretty fast. I will be writing a spoilerless review about the anime kaitou saint teeru. Haneoka Meimi is a girl very much unlike any others. While she seemingly is like all other girls you can see, Nobody knows that in reality she is the mysterious phantom thief Saint Tail. Saint tail working for the sake of greater good and helps people toubledby stealing or using illegal means for helping... she is also being chased by the police. Among the police force you'll find Asuka jr, a boy with a sincere wish of catching saint tail, thus proving to himself he would make a great cop in the future.. Due to his father he is there for every mission with the police force, but soon Asuka finds himself falling for both Meimi and St. tail. As kaitou saint teeru unfolds, you will find yourself laughing, crying, and absolutely completely adoring it. its not boring for a second, it makes you want to keep watching.. and the plot is more wide than what it seems to begin with originally upon watching.... This anime has it all. An enjoyable soundtrack, great character developments and surprise elements.. Kaitou saint teeru is an anime I would recommend to people generally fond of shoujo and magical girls animes, romance and oldschool animes. Give it a chance, watch it.. surely you will adore it. This anime only gets better as you go on, and the graphics are amazing as this is an anime from 1995. I truly will say, this is one of my alltime favorite animes.. While in overall this is a magical girl anime, it contains in overall no magic powers, moreover magician powers. Haneoka's parents are both magicians and they've tought Meimi what they know of magic making her able to use magic using her hat or cards\her staff ingame... By this, I feel like they in overall kinda made a somewhat realistic twist to the anime, not making it all magical girl styled. Watch it, you will not regret it.. This anime has top ratings for everything from me. I completed this anime about a year ago, and it hasn't left my mind for a secound ever since.. I've rewatched it so many times I kinda lost count, and yet.. It was worth every minute watching it.
I love St. Tail very much. I'm heavily nostalgic for it, and the overall premise I enjoy quite a bit. Story- Kept me interested and actually cared about the romance, which is not something I usually pay attention to if not am annoyed by. Sometimes felt like it was a bit contrived (Asuka Jr. isn't very observant, is he? And how many red headed 14 year old Japanese girls with a talent for stage magic are there in this town?), but never enough that it really took me out. 8/10 Characters- Meimi, Asuka Jr., and Seira are all stellar protagonists. I like them, and they never feltoverly cookie cutter. The only real issue I had was that I am well versed in Christian traditions (went to a Catholic college with actual Sisters, and was raised in the Lutheran Church with Catholic family members) and so some of Seira's actions and the depiction of her being a "nun in training" were a bit funny to me, but in universe it all was consistent and I was able to ignore it. The parents are some of the best I've seen in any anime in terms of backstory and relationship with the main character. The villains show up late but I found them incredibly compelling, enough that I didn't need more build up for them, though it would have been nice. 10/10 Magical Girl Elements- Meimi's magic is very unique in the genre, in that it's not very... Well, magical. It's portrayed as very advanced stage magic. I really like that, and the aesthetics of her adventures are really fun to me. The Christianity (while not exactly accurate) has the spirit at least, and who doesn't like to see bad guys get their backsides handed to them in creative ways? Minus a point for some believability, but mostly great. 9/10 Animation- Sometimes choppy for budget reasons, but overall nice with good action and a fun design. Very old school anime aesthetic. St. Tail's design is also amazing. 9/10 Overall- 9/10. Nostalgia may play a part here but whatever, still awesome.
This anime is great. The action scenes put me on edge and i even enjoyed the romance part of it. This is a great show for anyone it has magic, girl power, and you get to see a mans true strenght when it comes to love. I would recommend this to eveyone!
I got into Kaitou Saint Tail with no real thought of it actually being good. But after watching it I can say that it did not take long for me to complete it, and here is why: Story: The story follows a young boy in junior high called Daiki Asuka, but he is often referred to as Asuka Jr. He wants to become a detective and catch crooks, just like his dad. And one day the police can't catch a well known criminal called Saint Tail. She is a thief who steals and gives back the items to their rightful owner. Asuka Jr. gets excited tocatch her, but what he doesn't know is that she is actually her classmate Meimi! And I love this simple story because it always keeps you on your toes, especially when Meimi starts to get emotionally attached to Asuka. Because then you are scared of her reavealing her identity as the thief Saint Tail, while also rooting for Asuka! - 8/10 Art: I think the art in this series are very good. As expected with many older anime that are hand drawn, the visual effects are just incredible. But the general art style is good, but not my favorite type. I really like when it's more raw, but I understand why they went with a more soft and cartoony artstyle. - 8/10 Sound: I feel like the sound in this show is what slightly brings the score down. There is a lot of music that is repeated a bit too much for my liking, especially for one that binges this show. But also the quality of the sound is quite low. I feel like the fidelity of the sound recording of the actors is low and has a high noise floor which is not annoying but not a good feature to me. - 7/10 Characters: Here is where this show truly shines! The characters in this show are to me all so likeable and they all develop throughout the show which is really fun to see. But they never lose the core of their personalities which is what makes them so good. I also always enjoy the enemies different personalities and their backstories since they are always good and interesting. - 9/10 Enjoyment: This show went by really quick for me, and that is a testament to how much I enjoyed it! There are sometimes when you get frustrated with the plot, but almost all the time I was just having fun seeing which issue would occur and how they would solve it! - 8/10 Overall: Just an awesome shoujo chase/detective anime that I think almost anyone can enjoy! - 8/10
