"Marginal Prince" based off of the hit love simulation game series for girls! Yuta studies abroad in a tiny, far away island in the pacific ocean name Alphonso where he enters the all-dorm, all-male Alphonso Gakuen. However, the school is really a place for the children of the famous . . . and the school specializes in classes on empires and alchemy! And one day, after studying enough at the school, the students become known as "Marginal Princes"! Learn about the stories of fate and trial as each of the students studies to become kings!

I am having trouble figuring out why Marginal Prince exists. Marginal Prince is, and always will be, the first truly terrible anime I forced myself to sit through. I cannot say I regret this decision, because this is one of those anime that helps to remind me how awful most modern anime is, and forces me to appreciate the few anime that are actually worth anyone's time. Were I forced to suck any worth out of Marginal Prince, that would be the only thing I could come up with. What astounds me about this show is, at the time of writing this review, a total of8 users has it Marginal Prince listed under their favorites. Not only does this shock me, but it only furthers my belief that terrible anime is far worse than any venereal disease or cancer.
I've always wondered the thought process behind making an anime based off of a dating sim game. Dating simulators are not well known for their story telling, and their anime counterparts are unfortunately no exception. Marginal Prince relies on stereotypical bishounen as it's selling point and, I suppose in some way, is successful in this regard. The boys are certainly pretty to look at, and their personalities remain true to their hair colors. In any case, there is no back story to Marginal Prince, or any consistent plot (save for the shared theme of Princes or some such), and the character interaction is so dull and predictable it's a wonder the production team bothered writing dialogue at all.
The main point that must, absolutely must, be touched on when it comes to Marginal Prince is the sound. The voice acting is simply average, no real selling points or any awful inconsistencies, but the music is something else. In every episode of Marginal Prince, ever true, one of the unearthly pretty men will burst out into song. If you are not prepared for this, it will be shocking, disrupting, and hilarious. There is nothing quite as awkward as a voice actor who is not very good at singing and believe me - no one is good at singing in Marginal Prince. This is the main thing to look out for in Marginal Prince. Once it becomes a musical, it will either be the selling point or the dropping point for the viewer. However, you should save yourself the trouble and avoid Marginal Prince altogether.

There wasn't any review written for this anime, so I thought I would help out and write down a little. Story: A boy transfers to a school on a small island. A lot of bi-shounen guys walk around. At first he isn't really accepted, but because he never gives up everything turns out right. I was really disappointed, because they could have done so much more with the story. But somehow they decided to keep it really predictable. Art: The art was pretty okay really. It had good details, nice colours. Sound: I give a 7, because of the singing. Every episode one of the characters starts to sing a song.That was just... really amusing. Well, go hear it for yourself ;).

Biggest disappointment ever. They have this basic bi-shounen cast. Cool guy, nice guy, lolita guy..... and of course the main character is a dumb, but cheerful boy who eventually keeps everyone together and makes everyone happy.

I watched all episodes because of that strange singing every time. It really made me laugh.
Overall:
Oh well, a 5, because I'm not that strict.

I dislike being mean when i give a review, but i promised to myself to be sincere every time i give one. Marginal Prince falls under the category of "it was so BAD it made me LAUGH". People who reviewed about this being terrible weren't joking to you, truly... the only reason i didn't drop it off from the start was because it gave me a sheer amount of laughter in every episode. Welcome to the world of Marginal Prince! The worst Anime based of a dating game yet to be made. Main character (who is a dude instead of the main girl in the game) isthe new guy in this amazing all-boy academy. At the beginning it seems that this will fall in the category of "new guy in school who gets fawn over by everyone", but in reality Marginal Prince is wrongly labeled, it is NOT a shounen ai... and that makes the story even more pointless.
The thing is that THERE IS NO STORY. We have random pieces of plot scattered everywhere dealing with the character's back stories that we don't really care about.
The worst yet most hilarious part is that the characters sing. Yes. They sing. Out of nowhere. IN THE RAIN.
I love my good musicals, but... this wasn't suppose to be a musical, or is it?
Everything is random and pointless.
I don't suggest you to watch it but if you really want to i bet you at least will get a few laughs on how WTF everything is.

Marginal Prince is a low-budget, poorly-written hot mess, but it is also /hilarious/ in the way it's bad. Worth watching, just for the scene where the boy with long pink hair bashes a thug with a pipe while singing "Love Makes the World Go Round". So essentially, Marginal Prince is based on a cell phone dating game. Since they couldn't really include the "main character" of the girl, they pretty much just removed her. Unfortunately, they didn't really have anywhere to go with the storyline without her, so they clearly made up a story on the fly. Plus, with themain character now being Yuta, it comes across very BL-like, despite not being actually BL.
Most of the show is a series of largely unrelated events that introduce a large number of underdeveloped characters, and the attempt toward the end to tie up some of the vague plot threads is too little too late. Out of the characters, I found Henri, Red, and Sylvain to be at least interesting, but even then we don't get a lot of development, they're just the ones whose personalities stand out at all.
On top of that, the creators wanted to stick with what was apparently a theme in the dating game--the singing. As I was once told by a friend: "They burst into song at least once an episode whether it's appropriate or not. And it's never appropriate." The music is actually enjoyable, pretty standard VA theme song fare, but it generally makes no sense with the story and often ends up being hilariously out of place and/or overdramatic.
As I said before, this show is enjoyable because it's bad in ways that make it funny. If you're looking for a laugh at an overdramatic weird musical anime, it's probably worth sitting through at least some of, although it's short enough that watching it all is doable. If you're looking for a GOOD former dating sim anime, I'd recommend Meine Liebe.

I am leaving a review for episode 4 alone. This is the single greatest episode of an anime I've ever seen. It's the episode about the pink haired guy and it's the story of how he and Yuuta skip school because he got a phone call and so they hitchhike their way to town with lady who has been waiting for her son Carlos to show up for 10 years so they can hang up a sign together, who is also a so-called professional singer who can't sing worth a damn for some reason. Then the generic anime debt collector squad shows up and Yuutatakes legitimately 30 seconds to run the equivalent of 1/16th of a city block.
The pink haired guy really does bash a thug with a pipe while badly lip-syncing to the show's saccarine "Love Makes the World Go Round" soundtrack, and then he lapses into a bad slideshow vietnam flashback where this anime implies and expects me to believe that this pink-haired high school student has somehow trained for, been to, and not only survived but excelled in some kind of vague armed conflict, and came back a broken man.
The anime as a whole is trash, but this episode is notable for being a gift from Pope Jesus in an intellectual property that had me questioning my faith.
Episode four is a perfect 10/10. When Gandalf said a Wizard arrives precisely when he needs to, he was talking about episode four of Marginal Prince.
Rest of the show 1/10, 2006 didn't deserve this.
