One day, Saya, an agent of the World Space Association, receives a sudden message that says a large number of asteroids are on a collision course with Earth, and it is her mission to stop them. Unfortunately, the only way to save the Earth is by having three people with extraordinary potential demonstrate a new skill on a crane game, which will create a beam of energy able to divert the asteroids. The only three people with enough potential are three high school girls—Asuka, Mirai, and Kyouko. In order to harness their energy, Saya tells them that she has scouted them as idols and has them work at an arcade where she can monitor them. She says to the girls that all successful idols are good at crane games, and that building their skills is their first step in idol training. As the girls learn new crane game techniques, they begin to doubt Saya's intentions but are nonetheless unaware that the fate of the Earth lies in their hands. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Oh hey! It's another shitty Kyotomo show! I have no clue what the hell they were trying to achieve with this show... Crane Game Girls was an anime that finished airing earlier this year...which then got a sequel! Why the hell would you give a second season to this piece of garbage? What were they thinking? This anime is the lowest of the low. It's so bad that's it's the bitch of the lowest point on the trash scale. It's so nonsensical, so juvenile, so bad that it makes me want to kick a puppy. There is not a single thing about this show that is good. Not in the slightest! The narrative revolves around three girls who want to become idols and are told that if they master the crane game then they can become one. How the hell this works I have no idea but even stranger is that by playing this crane game the three girls are actually saving the world! Somehow, after they win, a laser-beam shoots out from the machine into space and stops whatever danger was approaching. That's it! It makes no god damn sense and the anime takes itself so seriously that it comes across as being pathetic. The anime dares to attempt to create some drama and character development between the three girls but it's handled so poorly and feels so forced that I feel like jumping into a pool of sharks with meat strapped to myself. Their motivation for wanting to become idols feels so tacked on and uninspired so it's hard to care in the slightest. The animation and character designs are horrendous and feel so lifeless and still that you'd swear you were watching a bad web video from 2001. Not something that is put on TV in 2016! Who the hell gave the okay for this to air and then give it a season two? The attempt at comedy is so weak and they keep repeating a joke about a gorilla every episode! If It's not funny the first time, why would it be funny the next seven thousand times? The music is a joke too. The opening is awful, so-much-so that I could do a better version if I had been drinking for two days and was on the verge of death. This anime is amongst the worst I have ever seen. The characters are terribly written, there is no plot what-so-ever, nothing makes any sense and the fact the anime takes itself seriously is a true slap in the face since they have no idea how untalented they're. Last year these released JK Meshi and complained in the very same show that they had the worst ratings out of all the anime of that season. And I'm willing to bet there is no change here. It doesn't even work as a 'so bad it's good' title since nothing is fun about this. At all. If you want to die then feel free to put this trash on. It certainly will do the trick. Crane Game Girls (CGG), like a number of the anime shorts Crunchyroll have taken to scooping up in the last couple of years, is one of those shows that you both question the point of licensing, but are also kind of glad they did. It's story is simple enough. Our idol trio: Asuka (the serious one); Mirai (the dumb one) & Kyoko (the other one) are sent to work at a game arcade by their gorilla boss (more on him later). With the guidance of their supervisor Sayo, they strive to become the best idols they can while also unknowingly saving the world, both ofwhich somehow involve them learning techniques to win on crane games. As odd as it might seem to say, there's a decent idea for a story behind CGG. That the trio at first do not know that they are saving the world from asteroid strikes, not just playing crane games, means they begin by just getting to know each other & better at the games, before having to overcome the burden of knowing what their real purpose is, finally coming together to save the day. There's even room for a sequel, God forbid. You could get a decent little show out of that framework, not that CGG is that show. The idea of saving the world by playing crane games is silly enough to work. There's plenty of anime that don't really integrate the thing they're advertising into the story. Often they do little more than produce a regular slice of life or comedy show, then simply make references to the thing they're supposed to be selling. Admittedly, the point at which the episodes switch from “witty banter” & plot development to using the crane games can feel rather abrupt & awkward. But at least it sticks with the idea & by the finale where the trio put al their techniques to use destroying the final asteroid, their clothes & lives being pushed to the limit, you can at least see the funny side. Oh, did I mention that CGG is an advert? Because it is, although maybe not quite for what you expect. Perhaps they're more well known in Japan, but it took a bit of digging & google translation to find that the shows main sponsor appears to be a company called Prize Hunter (uhouho.jp) where you seem to be able to play real crane games through your web browser to win prizes. The gorilla that is the idols boss is the sites mascot (uho uho is the onomatopoeia for a primate's call). That certainly explains why the show's about crane games, although it also makes it a bit like a fruit machine company showing you the guaranteed techniques to win the jackpot. It's not a surprise to see Kyotoma producing CGG, as they seem to be one of a few newer studios producing flash anime shorts lately. For what it is, CGG looks all right, although for some reason characters just can't seem to bend their elbows without their arms looking like Mr. Tickle. It doesn't have some of the issues (intentional or otherwise) with wandering noses & the like that JK Meshi did, although I'd say that show was more fun. The music is the bland idol pop you'd expect. As anime shorts looking to sell things you can't buy outside Japan go, CGG is decent enough. There's a neat idea for a story behind it, the product is obvious but not obnoxiously pushed & as flash anime go, it looks all right. Incidentally, if someone at Konami is reading this, I want to pitch an idea: A short anime where a group of idols save the world by learning how to win big at pachinko, supervised by Solid Snake. Addendum: Apparently there was also a series of accompanying episodes where the VAs would play crane games. CR didn't pick it up, so I have no idea what it's like. I don't think it's an unfair presumption to say it's not worth looking for, however, unless you really like watching Japanese women pretending to be excited about things.
TL;DR version: This whole anime is the equivalent of a good flash animation on YouTube/Newgrounds. Just watch it when you're going to marathon some heavy anime ('cause it's pretty short). Full Review: You know those flash animation you see on Newgrounds or on Youtube like "Eddsworld", "Jello Apocalypse", or other famous ones... Yea it's basically that. I mean, look at the art style man, it's something out of Newground, just with a hint of anime and "2moe4mebruh" spices. Everything about the whole anime is laughable and really childish. It is a cute, 4 and a half minutes show. I am not saying it's a bad thing. Really it's not, it'sa good anime if you're going to marathon some serious (i.e shonen, mystery, etc) anime, and you need at least something between 2... maybe 3 episode in. Should you watch it? Probably not, unless you're like me who only watch something cute, weird, and just want something to make you laugh and say "why did I even get this anime in the first place lol". Are you going to enjoy it? Probably. 8/10 would watch and drink bleach after
This is a hard anime to talk about as it's essentially just short animations about four minutes long where girls save the planet from meteors by learning to operate crane games. The premise is silly and the plot is sillier, but I kinda enjoyed it for it's bizarre charm. Each plot revolves around the same thing for the most part, the girls must master some new technique for getting prizes in a crane game, and then when they succeed meteors are stopped, there is more to it, but thatch the essential premise and it works for the most part. It's not a lot,but it's a short series that almost the length of a movie so it's not TOO bad I don't think. The characters aren't too much to write about, you have the three girls that want to become idols, a gorilla that gives the girls orders, and their teacher that shows them what they have to do. To me it's weird there is nothing special in this anime, but I found it charming enough to recommend, it's at least short enough to go through pretty quickly. I give it a low 7/10
Out of all the anime I could possibly review, out of all the ones I could gush about and give nearly endless praise to, I'm going to let Crane Game Girls be my first review. This show is not good. But in my opinion, I definitely think it's so-bad-it's-good. There's only thirteen episodes, each running for 4:30. However, if you skip the minute long intro, each will be about 3:30. You can get through the whole series in about an hour, which is good, because I don't think I could get through twenty minutes of this on repeat. Each episode the girls learn a newskill to obtain different prizes, which then powers up the claw machines and shoots a laser beam that changes the course of the asteroids. It can be noted that they aren't destroyed. Also, keep in mind that this series is a glorified commercial- gorillas are everywhere because that's the website's mascot. On this website you can use your iPad or computer to play a crane game with real money and control a machine virtually in Japan. If you win anything then they will ship the item to you. This is why they teach a new skill every episode. I find that really cool and I think it redeems the show some what. I just summarized the story, and while there is a bit more to it, you can watch it for yourself. As for the art, it's bad. It literally looks like an amateur flash animation, using the same scenes over and over, along with some broken elbows here and there. I like the designs of the characters, however. There are a couple good scenes scattered around, but for the most part it's pretty bad. The music is miserable because they play the same track on repeat every time ANYTHING happens towards the end of the series. It gets really annoying but it got an awkward laugh out of me for the sheer stupidity that is this show. Here's where it gets interesting. Let's discuss the characters. They're walking stereotypes and are not afraid to show it. We have the short-haired tomboy, rich girl, and mature older sister with a tragic past. Their ambitions/driving force/goals are the most selfish I've ever seen. They literally don't care about saving the world, they just want to be idols. Like, they don't care if the earth is destroyed, if their family dies, or if everyone who lives on the earth suffering a tragic fate; they want to be idols, and almost don't operate the machines until their boss knocks some sense into them, saying they literally CANNOT be idols if there isn't an earth to be an idol on! I thought these were elementary or even middle school kids, because I could understand their naivety and selfishness. Nope, they're high school girls. I couldn't find them really relatable, but I'm glad everything worked out for them, because it was nice seeing them achieve their dream. After all of this criticism, these horrible characters and absurd story, I have to say I enjoyed it. It made me laugh and appreciate all of the good anime that exists, and I learned some new crane game tactics, too! I recommend it if you want a simple palette cleanser after something really dark or if you just want to watch something random and bizarre. Seriously, there's a character called "Dark Gorilla" who wants to know the secrets of the idols so they can have idols on their own planet. If that doesn't make you interested, I don't know what will.
