If your dream in life is to become a womanizing, unfeeling sociopath who will do anything to climb to the top then Blue Flames could very well be your guide. Not very often to I see something so reprehensible that it has practically no value once so ever. I don’t know what the point of this was supposed to be, unless it was to be used as educational PSA for rich girls on how to avoid gold-digging gigolos. In the story, Ryuuichi Kaizu moves from girl to girl, using them as he pleases for sex and money or influence until they are no longerneeded. That’s pretty much it. I guess you could consider this a bit of a character study and a social experiment in the cruelty and stupidity of the human species. Despite its completely abhorrent plot, you can’t really say it’s not realistic. I know there are people out there in the world who are just as cruel, cold, and unfeeling as Ryuuchi is. There are an equal number of naive and stupid girls who would fit the characters in this show. So in a way, Blue Flames might be one of the most realistic anime ever made. As disturbing as the story is, nothing can prepare you for its complete asshat of a lead Ryuuchi. He is without a doubt the most uncaring and unfeeling person I have ever seen. There is no silver lining. He isn’t misunderstood or did he come from a bad family or have a terrible back-story. Quite the contrary actually, his family seems to be quite normal and typical and there isn’t a logical reason for him to be the way he is. He is just a bad seed. His own father seems to realize this. Because he is such a jerk, you don’t care about what happens to him and well actually you are waiting for him to receive his comeuppance but sadly he never does. While Ryuuchi is mildly interesting because of how detestable he is the rest of the cast are complete failures. There is nothing redeemable about any of them. I didn’t feel anything for his victims, mostly because I find it hard to sympathize with people that are so easily fooled and manipulated. Perhaps the only people you might feel the slightest twinge of sadness for is his estranged family who didn’t do anything to incur his wraith. Particularly his parents since I would likely wish I had been born sterile than be responsible for bringing a tool like this into the world. While this OVA is full of fail, nothing more so than the poor excuse for artwork. I know the quality of the rip I saw was probably from a VHS source but I seriously doubt this ever looked good. Even for the 80s the animation sucks. I really can’t believe people actually got paid for their work on this. The sound quality is nearly as bad whether from a poor audio source or just from lame 80s music. The actor performances are boring and uninspired. There is nothing to recommend about Blue Flames except to stay away from it. It has a lot of sex and sexual explicit content but it’s not hentai, so even if you’re looking for that you unlikely to be satisfied. Besides what is arousing about grainy poorly animated tits? Don’t waste your time.
One of the most hilarious anime I have ever seen. If you are easily offended by chauvinistic, patriarchal, sociopath protagonists, then this anime is DEFINITELY for you. Relish in the birth of the Blue Flames. Ryuuichi, the male protagonist, is set on ruling Tokyo, Japan. The Blue Flames of his inner consciousness directs a force so narcissistic - so horrifyingly dominant - that Ryuuichi will partake in anything to temporarily satisfy the insatiable hunger of his worldly desires. Enjoy this downright hilarious portrayal of a bastard. I admit, I laughed the entire way.
Ryuuichi is sleeping his way to the top. Cool. This isn't a hentai FYI. This anime revolves around Ryuuichi, a misogynist who sleeps with women to get to the top. However this OVA does nothing to prove that he reaches his goals, or does anything other than look like a total douche. Honestly, he's a male whore. Women beg to sex him. There is no story and I just told you all about it. This is definitely a woman repelant and this type of story would make a woman cringe at the sight of it. This is a fairly novel concept since it's post-OVA boom butstill managed to deliver. I knew what I was getting into so the story was not at all that bad. Did I mention there are some sex scenes? The art is as low budget as low budget can be. I've seen kids drawings with a better budget. It seems that the scenes get better during the sex. Sad, to say but I noticed there was much detail in the breasts. Even boobs can't save this anime. There is that old school vibe that you get with the artwork though. It kind of gives you a feeling that you're actually in the '80's. Everyone looks like they were ripped out of an '80's photoshoot. The sound is actually not that bad, well in the case of the BGM. I pictured A-Ha playing in the background for some reason. The dub is quite poor and if bad timing is a pet peeve in anime then I would advide not giving this a look. You really can't expect anything to extravagant. Again, it seems like all of the budget went to the sex scenes. Really good moaning. Moaning to the point that it sounds like the anime is about that. The character is a giant tool. He sleeps with the girl you like, forces you to hit him, rats on you, takes away your scholarship and kicks your ass. He somewhat makes Duke Togo look like a virgin. All the girls are pathetic and are poor excuses for women. They just sit there as they pant and moan about what a great lover Ryuuichi is. I didn't even bother to learn their names and they are forgettable with the exception of the girl that overdoses on pills when Ryu dumps her. If anything the girls are giant vaginas waiting for Ryuuichi to jump on them and take their money. I have to tell you that I enjoyed it. Ryu is what I want to be. Despite the blood-in-piss quality it managed to make me a better man. Pros: + If you're a guy you can watch it and show it to your girlfriend and show her you love her. + Misogynism. Cons: - Not female friendly. - Misogynism. All in all if you're a woman don't watch it unless you like insensitivity. This anime gets 5 "OH!" out of 10
This is my first review so don't be harsh on me :P This anime didn't suck at all; well, it could have sucked if I am stuck inside a romance bubble :P The main character, Ryuuichi, is a modern demon that would do anything to reach the top. On his way he meets, not only girls that he wants to exploit to achieve his short-sighted goals, but also some allies as well. This anime shows in a direct way that society is, unfortunately, build and may be ruled, not by romance, but by heartless, ruthless people. Ryuuichi wants to become one of these - notbecause he chose too, but just because he feels this way. It is very interesting to see how such a character perceives life. He is doing everything to reach his goals without any empathy at all, delving into his egoism and his own diminished ethics. For me, this anime provides a life lesson, both for men and women. For men, it is obvious that such characters do exist in real life and, if you consider yourselves one of the romantic, proud and ethical people, this is a good movie to think about how to face such characters. And "Ryuuichis" will appear throughout your lives and be prepared for that. For women, this is also a life lesson; Ryuuichi impersonates those men that will use you. So, before falling rapidly in love with somebody, take your time to indeed understand his intentions; The good thing is that this movie showed that patience, in these kind of modern demons, has some limits; Ryuuichi will not wait for long to achieve his goals - he wants to live fast and exploit everyone around him, but in a short period of time. Except from the extremely interesting plot and dialogues, art and music are (very) descent for the time that this anime was created (1989). And unfortunately, Blue Flames are increasingly felt in modern society, by men and women alike. Therefore, such a story is highly relevant and timeless. I recommend this movie to all anime viewers since it provides something unique to think about.
Stay away from it. For your sake. Spoilers: The only reason i watched until the end was because I thought the main character would get his fair punishment. But unfortunately… This anime left me with a bitter feeling The lead character is horrible for no apparent reason, he doesn't seem to have family issues but ends up being a dick anyway and it's so frustrating to see that he succeeds in everything in life, he gets all the girls he wants, all the money, the popularity graaaaaaaaa! Watching this made me so mad! My only wish would have been to see him die in the biggest pain
"Aoki Honoo" is one of those shows that is so positively awful, so obviously terrible, that it turns around and becomes one of the best shows you've seen in a while. Now, don't get me wrong, the quality, sound, story, animation and such are awful. What makes this show so good is the scumbag sociopath that we call the main character. His eyes are desolate; his soul is empty. Lust drives him, and nothing else. He gets bored? Find another woman. And in the process, ruin her life just for fun. Promises are but sentences to him, and empathy is nothing except a word. You couldn't evencall this a story. It's merely a window in the life of a man who feels nothing but an overwhelming desire to get laid. I searched—I really did—for some sort of meaning to this story, some sort of message of this lunatic's journey up the social ladder. Absolutely nothing. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what makes this show so great. It's so utterly incomprehensible that someone would write, get funding for, and animate this that just looking at the dumpster fire is the most funny thing I've ever seen. What's important about this show is how you go into it. One one hand, if you go into this looking for an actual story, character development, some emotional attachment, then you're going to have a terrible time. But if you open your mind, and go into this expecting the worst, I think you'll have a good laugh, because it's probably even worse than you think.
amazing, kinda like death note the main character would do anything to get to the top, i know this has gotten a lot of bad reviews; although, i really really enjoyed it and couldn't get enough of watching this guy claw his way to the top
This OVA through me for a loop; I just had to talk about it afterwards. Aoki Honoo is a OVA from the eighties that I just randomly found one day, and decided to watch. I was under the impression that it was just another high school anime where romantic progress doesn't exist, but I was wrong, dead wrong. I knew some shit was up after watching a curtain scene a few minutes in. The B( . Y . )BS were unexpected. In retrospect it was obvious, it's an eighties OVA. At that point, nothing was really wrong. The animation was stiff as hell, but nomajor issues. Now, Kaizu Ryuuichi, the main character, is a sociopath! He seemed normal at first, but after the first half of the episode, you realize that this man is a monster. I won't say exactly what he does, but let's just say he takes advantage of another student's emotions and destroys that students family/life. He does this repeatedly, and seems to get away with it, without considering the consequences of his actons. And to make matters worse, the OVA has no proper conclusion! It's just one whole episode of Kaizu being a dickhead to his peers. The art is fine, it's basic, but not bad in anyway; the music is lackluster; and the animation isn't very good. If there's a few good things I can say about this OVA, I enjoyed the drama, and it had a few shocking moments, that's all. I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone, but if you're in the mood for something a little messed up, then check this out, I guess. 4 out of 10.
This is one of the worst anime I've ever watched. The only good thing that came out of it is that now I am aware of what it feels like to reach a whole new low. Honestly, it's like the anime version of 'The Room'... the only positive way to look at it is a 'so bad it's good', maybe. The story revolves around this mentally deranged teenager who - for reasons completely unknown, apart from his penis size - is irresistible to women, to the point where they go to extremes when he eventually dumps them to climb higher on the social ladder or something. So bad, it was honestly so freaking bad. I feel sorry for every aspiring psychopath who though this was anything more than someone's idea of what their life would be like if they had a magic penis that women couldn't resist to. Seriously, if you thought this was something to look up to, you should notify your school.
Honestly I was excepting more of a shit show from this 1 episode OVA, and it really was a mess but goddamnit I really enjoyed it. For me, I can enjoy pretty much any type of anime as long as it's not some love-triangle drama bullshit. For me it's all about the enjoyment and I really enjoyed watching this one. The anime don't have much of a plot, it's just the MC being a f*cking horrible person and banging chicks, and trying to get a lot of money. I just loved how simple the story was. The art was quite potatoish, but the anime was made in1989 so I don't really care. I love how unique type of character the MC is, he's probably the most loved and the most hated character in the series, he can have pretty much anything he wants. I just loved how horrible person he was because it's rare to see a MC like him. I really like it when the MC doesn't give a fuck about what everyone thinks and always ends up winning, that's my type of MC. I feel like i didn't get enough of this OVA and I want so see more, but I can't find any manga of this and if there is one it's probably not translated. I don't really care what people say about this anime, but for me the only negative thing that comes to my mind is that it was too short. I shall remember this wonderful piece of art for my whole life.
“Aoki Honoo” is a hot mess. This one-episode OVA somehow manages to feature the most despicable “protagonist” I have ever seen in an anime. This guy, who doesn’t have a good personality (or really, any personality), charisma, good looks or any other potentially redeemable qualities, somehow manages to get girls and women to fall at his feet, and manipulates everyone around him to dance in the palm of his hand, ruining their lives while inexplicably not facing any repercussions. I can’t sympathize much with his victims, either; none of them are likable. Some of them know he’s manipulating them but let him continue to do whathe wants anyway, and others just make idiotic decisions with regard to their interactions with him, essentially digging themselves into deeper holes. There’s not really a plot; the OVA just follows some key points in the life of the main character, Ryuuichi, particularly his last year at high school and his first year in college. He schemes, he connives, he lies, he cheats — he does anything and everything to anyone and everyone for the sake of gaining power, wealth and influence. He doesn’t show any true emotions, and he doesn’t seem to care about anything but achieving his goals. He never receives any comeuppance for his actions; on the contrary, it seems like he’s rewarded every time he ruins someone’s life. Also, the anime ends abruptly, so we don’t know what happens to him later. Perhaps there’s a proper conclusion in the manga, since it has 77 chapters. The dialogue ranges from stereotypical to cringy to downright laughable. All technical aspects are subpar. The art tends to be either average or ugly. The animation is clunky. The direction is not so great in this one, even though it was handled by the well-known director Noboru Ishiguro. Some major voice actors star in this, but their performances are forgettable. The music is all instrumental and doesn’t fit the scenes it’s used in well, and sometimes the music is so loud that it’s hard to hear the characters speaking. As far as objectionable content goes, pretty much this entire OVA is objectionable. But to be specific, there are quite a few sex scenes in “Aoki Honoo,” maybe around 10 or so, and some of them would be classified as rape (instigated by the protagonist, no less). Naturally, there’s quite a bit of nudity as well. There is a slight amount of violence and blood. Also, there are some potentially triggering scenes, like scenes depicting domestic violence and a suicide attempt. The one positive thing I can say about this OVA is that the main character is memorable (for all the wrong reasons). If you watch “Aoki Honoo,” you won’t forget it. However, you may regret it.
