Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai adapts a handful of one-shots based on the manga series JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken, and follows the bizarre adventures that Rohan Kishibe goes through as he searches for inspiration for his manga. Fugou Mura Rohan accompanies manga editor Kyouka Izumi to a secretive village where she plans on buying a house. Izumi informs Rohan that inhabitants of the village suddenly become rich at the age of 25 after purchasing their homes. Being 25 years old herself, Izumi has high hopes for moving into the village and invites Rohan to gather ideas for his manga. As they enter one of the houses for an interview with the seller, they are greeted by a servant named Ikkyuu, who puts them through a test of etiquette with deadly consequences. Mutsukabezaka Rohan meets with his editor, Minoru Kagamari, to discuss both his manga and the six mountains that the manga author recently bought. He explains that he purchased the mountains in order to search for a legendary spirit known as the Mutsukabezaka. To give his search context, he tells the tale of Naoko Osato, a wealthy heiress who murdered her boyfriend and became cursed by the spirit. Zangenshitsu Rohan decides to vacation in Venice after putting his manga on hiatus. While there, he explores the interior of a church and examines the structure of its confessional. After stepping into the priest's compartment, Rohan hears a man enter the confessional and begin to confess his sins. The man recounts his confrontation with a starving beggar and the haunting events that followed. The Run Youma Hashimoto is a young male model who has quickly risen to success. As his popularity grows, so does his obsession with his appearance and body. One day, he meets Rohan at the gym, and the two quickly form a rivalry which pushes Youma to intensify his training. Soon. Youma's fixation on his physique takes a dark turn as his training takes precedence over his life, and he challenges Rohan to a fatal competition on the treadmills. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

A unique aspect of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable compared to other parts of the series was that it didn't really have to end where it did. While other parts have very specific goals that left no room for further expansion, the story of the strange little town of Morioh and it's inhabitants could have continued after the defeat of Kira Yoshikage, but was ended so that the series could move on to new storylines. Seeing an opportunity to expand on DiU's open ending, Hirohiko Araki came up with the series of spinoff one-shots known as "Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan", which follows thefan favorite character through various weird anecdotes from his life. These one-shots have been written intermittently throughout the years, starting in the middle of Part 5: Golden Wind, and continuing to this very day. Of course, that's only about the original manga shorts. The OVA adaptations of these one-shots were created by David Production, who made the first of them in 2017 as a bonus for ordering every DiU BD, and they have currently made 4 episodes. Story: 8/10 For those who are discontent with the lack of the paranormal in JoJo ever since the switch to Stands, you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan does not feature battles with enemy Stand users, and instead focuses entirely on the titular character's encounters with various paranormal beings. The only Stand featured is his own Stand, Heaven's Door. Since it was adapted from a series of one-shots, everything is episodic and unconnected. Each episode focuses on a new story about a different strange occurrence. Art: 7/10 This is a bit complicated. You see, they started animating these alongside the anime adaptation of DiU, and both of them have massively different character designs. As a result, the character designs in the first two episodes do not look very good, as they were not used to doing Araki's modern artstyle at the time. However, the other two episodes (The Run and At a Confessional) look much better in the design department. The former is most likely because they got better at animating Araki's modern designs, and the latter is because it uses Golden Wind's artstyle (as it was written during GW's run), which they had just finished adapting into it's anime. Character designs are just one aspect, though. The animation also matters, and it looks absolutely phenomenal. David Productions is great at doing storyboarding for JoJo, and it still applies here. Furthermore, the OVA format really shows it's benefits here, as it consistently looks higher quality than every episode of the TV anime. One episode in particular, "The Run", had my jaw agape with just how good it looked. Sound: 10/10 The sound design in the JoJo Anime is absolutely fantastic to the point where you could write an entire thesis praising it and then some. There is an entire Youtube channel dedicated just to showing off the sound profiles of each individual Stand, just to give an idea. That master-class sound design has carried over to this series. The sound effects are great, the background music is great (as far as I know, it's all reused from the anime, and the anime's soundtrack has millions upon millions of views due to it's quality), and the ED they created just for this series, "FINDING THE TRUTH", is beautiful. Character: 9/10 This is going to be the shortest segment, as this is basically just a rating of Rohan only. There are no other reoccurring characters. Basically, if you like Rohan, you'll like it, and if you don't, you won't. I like Rohan a lot, as he's one of my favorite characters in the series, and I rated this segment as such. Enjoyment and Overall: 9/10 Ultimately, the only reason you would or should consider checking this out is if you already liked the main series. I highly doubt it would win over someone who didn't already enjoy it, and even if it did, it's not very long. However, for those who did like it, I highly recommend checking it out. It's a nice, short little accessory to the main series, perfect for fans who enjoyed Diamond is Unbreakable and Kishibe Rohan.
Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe is a collection of one-shot stories adapted from the Diamond is Unbreakable spin-off manga, and is produced by David Productions. The OVA is released over a span of two and a half years, and the time spent thoroughly producing all four episodes really shows. The final two episodes are finally out, so I’ll take the chance in writing a review. We follow the daily life and mishaps of Rohan Kishibe, one of the main characters from Part 4 of JoJo who works as a manga artist and is a fellow stand user who can peer into people and edit information about themas if they were a book. DP decided to adapt four out of the nine currently-released chapters, or “episodes” as they are called, from the manga, but not in release order. The episodes adapted are ‘Millionaire Village’, ‘Mutsu-Kabe Hill’, ‘The Run’, and ‘At a Confessional’. Each episode is based on a story that Rohan has either heard from other people, or has experienced himself. They all involve some sort of mystery involving youkai, ghosts or other stands and users, which Rohan has to try and solve the puzzle as to what is happening and what he can do to come out on top. Being able to spend a long time with the production of each episode, added with the bonus of improvement of technology, the artwork and animation is at a very high standard. Comparing this to the main series, I would say that it’s either on par or even better. The art is clean and very polished, whilst retaining that JoJo-esk art style, and the animation is also smooth. Though there have been a couple of instances where the artwork was a bit funky, mainly Kouichi’s face in the confessional episode, DP did a great job. Knowing David Productions, they obviously would pick out some great songs for the show. The opening is very fitting for the OVA, as the theme of this show is based on mystery; it makes me feel as if I’m watching X-files (which funnily enough, after doing a little research, it appears they focused the soundtrack based on X-files and Twin Peaks (the original series)). The ED from Coda is also very nice and mellow. Each episode is very enjoyable, and if you’re a fan of Rohan or just the JoJo franchise in general, then you’ll get a kick out of these four episodes. My pick as my favorite episode would have to be ‘The Run’. Depending on the DVD sales, this might be the last time we’ll see these characters and Part 4 as a whole. Overall, this Rohan-oriented OVA is very good.
David Productions decided to give JoJo fans an Rohan OVA instead of any informations about the animated version of Vento Aureo, at first I was optimistic... until I saw the teasers and screenshots (Okuyasu what have they done to you). My pessimism was growing more and more until I actually watched it, and I was pleasantly suprised I'll start with the best thing about the episode which is suprisingly the animation and music. Everything looks great, the animation itself is smooth and the overall style fits the tone of the story, especially the moments with the darker colour pattern look very nice. The Music... well it'sDavid Productions so there's not much to talk about, it's really good, especially the opening and the ending After getting that out of the way let's talk about the story which is told using only three characters (not counting the final scene which is more like a cameo of the main cast of DiU). There's also not much to talk about here, the setup is pretty good, there is no deeper message in here, it's simple but also pretty interesting, if you're looking for action you won't find it here, the story focuses more on the mystery surrounding the "Millionaire Villiage". The previously mentioned characters are also nothing special (well maybe except Rohan, I think that guy's great but that's only my personal opinion). Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan is nothing special, but it's a short really enjoyable episode, I recommed you'll give it a watch
The world's most asshole JoJo character comes back again to draw on some faces and punch some children, These two OVAs are pretty interesting because David Production worked on this instead of making a good part 5 ed. The two OVAs starts out in the town of Morioh where eagle eyed viewers will notice that this is actually a parallel universe to the Morioh from part 8 of JoJo. Other things eagle eyed viewers will notice are Rohan's headband and the appearance of Koichi's dad. The story of these OVAs is secondary to the genius character of Rohan which successfully scared many people away from talking toAraki. music returns from part 4 and I eat up part 4 like I overeat after having a bad day. Art is slightly different from part 4 but still has the obvious JoJo style so anyone who complains is objectively wrong. I really enjoyed these OVAs, they're a fuck ton of fuck fun. 8/10 in the part 4 ed i thought that pink dark boy was gyro, eat shit and fall off your horse rohan.
Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai is a spin-off short series centering around the 6th main character from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 4, Rohan Kishibe. The person whose stand power was practically reading anything and anyone like an open book -- turning them into the given book first, of course. The first story (5th in release order, 3rd in chronological order because sense) was originally released by David Production to reward those who bought the bluray releases for the main story. This episode centered around bunch of rich kids who all had become rich under highly similar circumstances. This type of event could -naturally- only be thework of an enemy stando! And Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, just like the English name suggests. The second episode (which is the 2nd in all but original manga release order) was planned to be released to confirm season 05, but the plans apparently changed, as the first episode was shown already 2 weeks before the release of this OVA, confirming that the next part (Vento Aureo AKA Golden Wind) centering around Jojoverse would air in Fall 2018, making the hype real, and this OVA 2 only feeding the hype even more. The real crime here is the price, as 40 bucks just to see episode 2 legally is a robbery to say the least. The story of the 2nd OVA is also heavily driven by money, in the beginning that is. Rohan has a problem here because the manga author life isn't bringing in enough income. He has to go as far as sell his Sailor Moon fig collection just to cover living expenses. What blasphemy! The actual plot centers around this woman who accidentally "kills" a man, but this dude doesn't really die, instead keeps on bleeding blood year after year. The ways in which she tries to block the blood flow as well seeing how much this ends up effecting her life, all are pretty fucked up, but also comedic in the Jojo style. Greatness that should be witnessed by every fan of the franchise. As a conclusion, those who enjoy DP's adaptation of Araki Hirohiko's work, have little to no reason to not watch and not enjoy these specials. Knowing that even such short side stories are getting adapted, only give hope that future seasons will be as glorious as everything else has been thus far.
The plot seemed too simple but at the same time confusing (Much like your average JoJo episode), and had the mood and bizarreness to it that part 4 had and had me wanting to know more, making things feel like a mystery. 'Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan' has basically zero context to it and tries to distance itself from the original universe and normally each chapter in the manga is unchronological and isn't linked to the next one. So watching this OVA starting at 'Episode 5: Millionaire Village' felt really weird it had zero context felt as if they just threw things at you expecting foryou to understand what's going on. I understand that 'Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan' is a series of one-shots but it still felt really confusing. Personally, I'm not too much of a fan of the animation. It's a real pain to look at and looks horrible in motion, but I'll give it credit for looking very similar to its source material. On another note, I found the voice acting to be average/to what I expect from Takahiro Sakurai as Rohan; but I couldn't take the crying noises from Kyoka Izumi, seriously it sounded like the kind of crying you'd hear from a shitty school production. I really wanted to like this OVA, but in all honesty, it made me angry and upset that part 5 was delayed for this (My favorite part). I had a hard time understanding the plot. I mean this OVA is set many years after the evens of part 4 right? Why were Koichi and Okuyasu still wearing their school uniform? The opening was nice and had some Harry Potter vibes to it. It sounded mysterious and creepy which really helped set the tone of this OVA until I saw the rest of the animation. Anyways, I really do appreciate the effort and time that David Productions put into making this. It felt new, yet it had a familiar part 4 style to it reminding us that it was still JoJo. This got me excited for part 5 and the future for JoJo OVA animated spin-offs, I hope David Productions doesn't just adapt JoJo one-shots but also adapt the light novels too, which in my opinion would help viewers transition a lot more easily from JoJo one part to another a lot without having the part that they were on feel incomplete. I hope in the future we get to see a 'Purple Haze Feedback' OVA animated adaption and a 'Dead Man's Questions' OVA to help make parts 4 and 5 feel more complete. I give 'Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan - Episode 5: Millionaire Village' a 5/10. I recommend only watching this if you want to satisfy that hunger for more JoJo content and if you're a fan of Rohan of course. My first review. - Loak
It's not the worst thing ever, but the villain is pretty fucking stupid. Maybe if the violation of manners were relatable I could understand, but they sound like something a 4 year old would come up with, which is just petty and feels like a waste of time. The basic concept of Rohan finding something to write about is fine, and the ending scene is alright, but everything else is a waste. Wouldn't have finished it if it wasn't Jojo related. Don't read the next bit, it's just a rant so I could fit the minimum. I just wanted to comment on this because I'venever been disappointed by something I really love, Jojo's that is. Mal won't let me write a quick review for some reason. I honestly don't know if it's because the guy who heads this shit has his head up his ass or honestly believes long drawn out opinions are the only valid ones, but I don't really want to write about this forever. I was disappointed, so let me move on. Honestly if there's some kind of minimum on garbage mal reviews then there is a serious problem with this website, aside from the fact everything is rated higher than a 7. It feels like game scores, completely worthless but we need to jack ourselves off so we do it anyway. Gotta have that patrician taste right? I took a quick peep at some other reviews, not to see what they actually said, but to see how long they were and it legitimately surprised me how long a review needs to be. Well maybe if I write about something I like I could actually fill that much space.
This OVA ends up having a totally different style than what we see in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, don't watch it thinking that there will be stand battles, because the only stand that appears is Rohan's, this OVA tells stories that Rohan ended up witnessing in his adventures in search of content for their manga, the OVA ends up being more drawn to the horror genre due to the stories told, in my opinion it is a very good OVA, as it shows a little more of Rohan who is one of the best characters in part 4, and the stories are very good and wellproduced, those who watched JoJo will like it, and it’s also a great gateway for anyone who wants to start watching JoJo, since you don’t need a context to understand the story. Sorry for any mistakes in writing, I used the Google translator.
Tired of watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Series? Watch these OVAs. So, I just finished watching the spin-off of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable" entitled "Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai or Rohan Kishibe Does Not Move" with four episodes of OVAs themed and I'm going to make a review. Before starting the discussion, I think I know why the title is "Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai or Rohan Kishibe Does Not Move" probably because the content in the OVAs only contains Rohan-sensei's the Comic Artists who sits quietly outside a shop in Morioh City and doesn't move while telling his friends about his random journey. He also filledseveral monologues with good messages. Okay, now we'll start to the the first episode whose title is "Fugou Mura" which means "Millionare Village". So the story goes that Rohan-sensei and his manga editor, Kyouka Izumi's, a woman, visited the village because she's intended to buy it and Rohan-sensei was also invited to there as reference material for his manga, there they were both greeted by a waitress namely Ikkyuu's and they both did various tests ordered by the owner of the house through Ikkyuu. I can't tell you what's going on here but I just can say nice Heaven's Door right there. Continue to the second episode whose title is "Mutsukabezaka" which means "Mutsu-kabe Hill". I can say that it was a very bloody gore episode and I was really confused about what kind of reaction to watch it because on the other side it was funny. Overall very good. Then to the third episode whose title is "The Run". This episode really fun to see two crazy peoples, one is Comic Artists and the other is Hermes, they're competing for cellphones while exercising on a treadmill. Well, you can watch it yourself and it can be made intense. Overall cool. Last to the fourth episode or the final episode whose title is "Zangenshitsu" which means "At a Confessional". So the story is a flashback when Rohan-sensei went on vacation because of his manga was on hiatus and he visited a church and inside of the church he accidentally entered a small room which even though that room was a place for priests to consult with people who were in trouble, and there was a man inside and he told his problems to Rohan-sensei. I can't say much but well, at the end of the story we can be happy to see Rohan-sensei experience on his random journey. Well, every episode of the case is different and the characters are different too and of course it's bizarre, the pace is slow but relaxing at the same time like listening to someone reading a fairy tale with a backward plot. The art, the animation, and the color design were comfortable to see as expected to David Production. Outstanding soundtracks, Kudos to Yuugo Kanno. The Opening theme is a dark vibe and the Ending theme is so soothing. Voice acting suits all characters and I have no problems. I love the atmosphere and well, I'm really enjoying the show and overall I would recommend for those of you who are tired of watching the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Series due to too many episodes and as a show that is relaxing and fun to follow also it's really entertaining.
A spin-off series about Rohan Kishibe and the many adventures he has in his quest to come up with real-life stories to adapt for his manga series. These don't really have any bearing on the main story of JoJo, but other characters from the JoJo universe make cameos and the stories are the same sort of cleverly stupid and over-the-top that made me fall in love with JoJo as a series so naturally, this spin-off show was easy for me to fall in love with as well. Ep1: At a Confessional *This was probably my least favorite of the bunch as it reminded me of agoofy Simpsons Treehouse of Horror type of horror skit as opposed to a JoJo episode in terms of the plot where a beggar put a curse on a laborer saying he would come back to kill him on the day he is happiest. But it turned for the better when the story did something only something in the JoJo universe would do: it made the act of throwing a piece of popcorn into the air and catching it in your mouth both suspenseful and hilarious. Easily the best part of the episode. 7/10 Ep2: Mutsu-kabe Hill *The most bizarre and interesting of the stories and easily the most unnerving. It starts off making by reminding us how devoted to his work Rohan is as he loudly proclaims to his editor that he spent every penny he had and filed bankruptcy to buy a bunch of valueless land in a region so he could get the story about the Mutsukabezaka monster. The story that unfolds started off as something campy, but it evolved into something sinister and bizarre that I couldn't help but be fascinated by the creativity of how demented Hirohiko Araki's mind can be. 10/10 Ep3: Millionaire Village *Rohan is told by his editor Kyōka Izumi that there is a mysterious exclusive town that everyone that moved into it started off as nobodies but was able to make their fortunes shortly after and become millionaires. And to make things even weirder, all people that moved there were 25 years old when they arrived. So Rohan and Kyōka head off to the island where they are tested on their abilities to follow proper etiquette which of course ends with a hilarious bait and switch trap card from Rohan that makes you appreciate how cleverly stupid of a universe JoJo is. 8/10 Ep4: The Run *Yoma Hashimoto started off as a nobody, but after a modeling agent discovered him and told him he could have a career in film, his ego grew and he became obsessed with fitness. Of course, this is part of the JoJo universe, so naturally, this can't be a normal obsession. There has to be something bizarre going on behind the scenes, and thus it isn't until our very own Rohan challenges Hashimoto to a friendly run before we discover the nature of his bizarreness and end off with a sense of dread and unease. It always amazes me how these shows can both make me laugh and in complete suspense at the same time as I'm watching these sequences. 10/10 Hope there will be more!
I've just saw the trailer on YouTube on Netflix's channel. Oh my god, I thought, another Jojo series? Nope! An OVA... With 4 episodes... And not the right episodes too! It starts off with episode 18 or something, and then goes lower. I got that confused that I had to search it up. However, it's the correct sequence. The story is about Rohan telling stories, and their very creepy, and that's why I give it a 10 for the story. The stories are good too and interesting as well. The art, however, is kinda off from Jojo Part 4 I think, I didn't exactly likeit unfortunately. I wondered why they did that. Just the shading is off, the rest is alright. The sound design and voice actors are the same as Part 4 I think. The OP and ending songs I've not listened to, but I think it'll be okay. The character development is an interesting one. They did the stories short, which is good, as it's an OVA. Overall, I liked it!
Did you enjoy S4 of JoJo? You might enjoy this title as well. Story: It's basically 4 standalone stories being told by Rohan about his past. They are all decent and fit JoJo setting. Art: Art style of the anime is a darker version of S4. It's not as colourful while still on the same great level. Sound: OP is very atmospheric and unique. ED is fine. The music in anime is good as always. Character: As it's basically Kishibe Rohan and 1-2 supporting characters in each episode there is not so much to describe here. All the characters are just right for their story arcs. Enjoyment: I guess enjoymenthere depends on if you like Rohan as a character or not. I personally do find him interesting. Plus all the stories were decent and had their twists. Overall: light 9.
The OVA Thus spoke Kishibe Rohan is an series of 4 relatively disconnected stories told from the perspective of Rohan Kishibe from Jojo's bizarre adventure part 4: Diamond is unbreakable. While it is not absolutely necessary to have seen Part 4 to enjoy this series it is advised that you do so to better understand who Rohan is as a person. The individual stories are very unique and unexpectedly different from what Jojo's is traditionally known for, that is there are no protracted stand battles but rather Rohan's odd experiences in the wider world. He travels to Italy, forests outside Morioh, the gym etc. Ifound one or two of the stories to be delightfully creepy and unsettling (that's a good thing) despite being told in anime format which generally struggles to convey creepiness. I caught some definitive inspiration from western writers like edgar allen poe in one of the stories which certainly heightened my personal enjoyment of it. The artstyle is more like part 5's and whether you like the art is a matter of personal opinion and while sometimes the art served to heighten the truly weird circumstances that rohan gets himself into occasionally I felt like the Rohan I remembered from Diamond is unbreakable is lost in this new artstyle. I also felt like narratively Rohan is very different in this OVA than the manga/anime he was introduced in. I do think that the stories in this OVA should be considered just short stories and if you don't enjoy the concept behind one short story others are certainly better. I do think however if you wanted an especially 'jojo's' themed set of stories you will likely be disappointed. There are no fights or even that many memorable lines.
Pretty cool direction for something in the universe of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure to take that manages to feel wholeheartedly like something that fits right in with the series, while being its own thing. The supernatural, urban horror route here is executed pretty well and made to feel very unique thanks to Araki's sense of humour, worldbuilding, and story writing all playing into giving this a very different vibe to your average anime ghost stories. Sure, you've got things like vengeful spirits and mysterious haunted villages out in the middle of nowhere, but you've also got elements such as treadmill-based competitions and a guy's life beingdecided by whether or not he can catch a piece of popcorn he threw in the air. The juxtaposition in these more grisly themes and creature being juxtaposed by your standard Jojo brand of absurdity, both sides taking themselves insanely seriously in the context of the story, ends up being a huge reason why this works so well. This is further heightened by the fact that Rohan Kishibe himself is such a fun character to follow along, with his ridiculous commitment to his art both acting as justification for these escapades and adding a lot to his personality to see the heights he reaches. Cameos of other characters from part 4 were also a nice touch in further fleshing out these 4 shorts and giving them a sense of cohesion with the framing device of them all being stories told by Rohan himself about these spooky stories. I feel this also helps in making these stories slightly more able to go off the rails in unique ways due to the fact that so much is based on second hand information within the world, which adds those potentially exaggerated plot points that contribute to the way everything is told in the style of passing on an urban legend from one person to the next. I also just, really, really love how utterly insane it gets throughout, with so much intensity and emphasis being put on the mundane, which is nicely combined with some very expressive animation that further heightens the emotion at the right moments. The use of colour throughout is particularly cool to me, with a lot of contrast and emphasis being put on various elements through the neon palette that phases in and out. All 4 of these episodes are a ton of fun all nicely wrapped up in a great sense of atmosphere and the ability to throw the viewer for a loop without going particularly overboard in the wrong ways. Definitely worth a watch for those who enjoyed Jojo part 4, even if it obviously doesn't quite match up with part 4 itself. Always nice to have these smaller, self-contained stories and I'm hoping for more of those JJBA side stories to get a similar treatment to this in the future.
Finally Rohan sensei got his own show! Kishibe Rohan is definitely a type of character that deserves his own series. Introduced at the beginning as the antagonist of Diamond is unbreakable, now telling his stories through one shots. The character had already charisma and character depth and his own way of story telling along with unpredictable story writing (talking about Heaven's door). In the show we will learn about manners, solve mysteries, experience obsession and have a trip to Italy with Than sensei. JoJo parts may be full of violence and blood but not dark and extreme horror than this. The show starts with KishibeRohan on conversation with his editor regarding one shots for the manga publication. In the conversation, they happen to talk about a number of luxurious house situated in the top of a mysterious forest. As Rohan sensei is realistic illustrator, he plans to visit the place along with his editor as editor is concerned to buy a house located in the forest. They ends up in trouble as they get to know, house is only sold to the customers who show good manners. The adventure in the forest ends up in a disaster. Similar thing happens with Than sensei, as he discuss about his bizarre experience with Koichi, Josuke, Okuyashu and his editor.
This is just going to be a quick review to give some context behind my rating, because I think the rating by itself is a little misleading. The first Rohan OVA (Millionaire Village) was honestly nowhere near the quality I've come to expect from David Production's adaptation of Jojo's. The pacing was not very good and a lot of the animation looked pretty stiff. If I were to rate that episode by itself, I would probably give it a 6 or maybe a 7 if I was feeling generous. The second one (Mutsukabezaka) stands in stark contrast as one of the best pieces of Jojo's materiel I'veever seen. That episode I would easily give a 10 without a second thought. It's clear that DP recognized where they messed up with the first one and made a clear effort to improve for the second one, and it paid off enormously. The pacing is massively improved, the animation is smoother, and the tension is much more palpable. My rating is closer to the 10 of the second episode than the 6 of the first for 2 reasons: 1) It's clear DP recognized their mistake, so I highly doubt any future episodes will suffer these problems 2) Even if that weren't the case, the second episode still more than made up for the first in my opinion
Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan is an OVA that I had been waiting for for a long time to reach streaming services. Rohan is one of my favorite characters from my favorite Jojo part, Part 4, but sadly after finally getting to watch this OVA, I was still thoroughly disappointed. The OVA is an anthology series centering around various mysterious happenings that Kishibe Rohan comes across. The returning characters from part 4 seem to all be in character, but there is one thing that is noticeably off about all of them: the artstyle. This OVA is animated in the style of Part 5's anime rather than Part4's style. This leads to characters like Koichi looking bizarrely angular compared to their Part 4 designs. This was somewhat disappointing since part 4's artstyle was unique and suited these characters better. The biggest downfall of this series is the stories, which is a big problem in an anthology series. Most of them end up being boring, nonsensical, and have little to no pay off. The best of the four by far is the episode titled "At a Confessional", so if you're curious, just watch that one and then go watch a better anthology series.
Short series of very good jojos nothing more to say from me, very entertaining and hopefully they will release a new season of jojos very soon, I need it so watch it and enjoy. I liked how they deepen the universe of jojos and how they show you the world as it is hopefully they will release more seasons.
Presentation/Animation 8/10: I'm very surprised how great this OVA looks. Adapting an art style like the manga's is a task I thought impossible, but David Pro actually did it. Each character, especially Ikkyu, looks fantastic and faithful at the same time. As "usual" now, the color pallet is an absolute joy to look at; and there are many points of creatively directed background animations. That's not all it has to offer, it even re-uses music from the DiU anime. It's technically lazy but the implementation is so great I have a hard time disliking it. The general tone of this was spookier than reading itwhich was an alright change. Having Koichi and Okuyasu show up at then end was a neat closer, though notice how Josuke's back is in one of the shots yet his face is never shown, probably because it would've looked horrendous. The only downside is the pirated version on Youtube has chinese subtitles, and superimposing the (hopefully accurate) fan-translated subs on top of it looks pretty bad. That's obviously not the fault of the OVA though. Story/Character 6/10: Rohan is basically the same as his DiU counterpart. The new addition of his manga assistant was pretty good. None of the characters every annoyed me, which is surprisingly rare. The concept itself of having gods controlling the village of which mansions of rich people reside was pretty hilarious to watch; and the testing of manners was also done pretty well. Insecurities of correct manners showed in both of the main cast. Compared to the batshit insanity of certain parts, this is actually one of the calmer yet paradoxically weirder stories in jojo as a whole.
