Cheating Craft is the definition of an absolutely brilliant mediocre anime! You might be thinking, "How could you give this mediocre series a ten, especially when you only give tens to three percent of anime?!" Well, it's actually a six, but hear me out for a second... (TL;DR at end) If you've already watched this show, you probably already know that it's really not THAT great. However, have you ever seen another series like this...? The answer is probably no, and that's where I feel this anime shines the most. Anime is supposed to be the genre of artistic imagination, yet we're constantly bombarded with the same conceptsrepeatedly. However, Cheating Craft goes against the norm by being a short, 12-minute parody series that makes fun of some popular anime concepts with a fun twist. Every episode contains a comedic and dramatic story, where all you know is that the main character will somehow cheat to prevail over a test in a dramatic way using his family's impossibly diverse Shokatsu techniques. It has a linear plot and moves at a really great pace towards the single end-goal of living a life of luxury by graduating from their prestigious school. One of the characters in this series really stood out to me, and that's Kou-chan (or Huang, Qiao Yi). Kou-chan is is voiced by Rie Kugimiya, otherwise known as the "Queen of Tsundere Voices". Kou-chan stands out to me because she's: smart and nerdy, but not shy; simplistic, but not average; unusually focused, but laid back; she's confident, rude, sarcastic, perverted, bl-loving--- in other words, she's a very unusual and lovable character. In fact, I think she may have one of the more unique (unrealistic) personalities that I've seen in the anime genre (let me know if you agree). I think she's a worthy favorite if you like her enough. I strongly believe that Cheating Craft should be praised for its unrealistic and bold concepts, like using supernatural abilities for the sole purpose of cheating to pass exams. It's a stark contrast to most other anime because the teachers are actually the main "villains" of this supernatural school tale. Hell, they might as well have just studied with all the effort that goes into cheating each episode! To add to the humor, you have a disclaimer every episode that says "cheating is a wrongful act, do not imitate." Note that it is physically impossible to imitate almost anything that happens in it, which makes it even funnier! Then, to finish it off, you have the hilariously dramatic episodes and backstories of the main protagonists. This anime does not even try to take itself seriously, which adds to the mediocre brilliance. It may be extremely mediocre, but it is honestly the most enjoyable mediocre series that I have ever seen. TL;DR This series is masterfully mediocre. Story: 5 - Linear, good pacing, rather average story. Art: 6 - Fluid, Dramatic, Good Enough. Sound: 9 - This actually threw me off... There's not usually great music in a mediocre series... Character: 5 - All are archetypes except Kou-chan Enjoyment 9 - Surprisingly entertaining, despite having no intellectual value. I highly recommend that you watch it! If you don't like it by the 3rd episode, then you probably won't like it. Overall: 10 out of fucking 10.

Even with a short runtime (12 mins per ep) and a lack of promotion, for lovers of stupid senseless "switch off your brain" comedies, Cheating Craft is easily a barrel of laughs and jaw dropping goodness. Story: 10 China brings you a new generic shonen battle / gag series to add to the pile of generic shonen battle series we already have in Japan. WITH EXAMS!!! Cheating Craft takes place in a world where CHEATING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!!! There are those who can learn and there are those who can cheat. Everything's fair in love, war and exams. From pen tranquiliser guns to X-ray glasses; from making origamiweapons to training an insect army, the otherworldly cheating kung fu skills elevate the premise to higher realms of fun campy silliness. JUST STUDY DAMMIT!!! There's no real storyline and the show follows the Gag of the Week format. My jaw dropped at least once or twice per episode at how the writers manage to pull off increasingly silly random fun stuff every week. As at the final episode: I still stand my ground that studying is still much easier than training these cheating techniques. Art: 7 Standard colourful shonen art. Nothing to complain about. Sounds: 10 Great work by Sakabe Go. They even have orchestral pieces to match the epicness of the show. It makes you want to buy the OST from episode 1. Characters: 10 Standard shonen battle characters. Hot blooded male MC- check. Rivals with colourful hair- check. Cute girls to trigger shipping wars - double check. Also nothing to complain about. What stands out about the characters is that their VAs really sound like they're having fun throughout the whole series. From the squealing of a fujoshi fangirl to flying sharks to the yelling out of shonen attacks in the middle of exams, it's a total ham fest for people who love ham. Enjoyment and Overall: 10 Cheating Craft is a show which surpasses the sum of its generic looking parts. In terms of pure enjoyment and fun, it's a perfect TEN in my books.
Ok, if I would describe this anime amongst the character's technique, I describe it as "Suck-katsu Technique" as it in this anime for all of what is expected "TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!" as one reviewer's comment states, "It becomes a chore than an amusement." Man, just what the fuck was Haoliner Animation League', studio Blade thinking for making an anime out of a Chinese light novel titled Zuobi Yishu by Gemini Xin Luo? Tbh, I have nothing but regrets about allowing myself to subject to such chore of watching this.....thing, where it would have been much exciting to watch 'Prison School" than this, sooooooo: Storywise, It wasgood at first (ep 1) , but it's plot which was themed after the art of cheating was anything but just too overly exaggerated, that the entertainment side of it starts to wane down, I mean, such plot about cheating on an exam simply wasn't a good fit to use as a plot base, when combine with martial arts, super powers and harem ( since there is a subtle rivalry between Koui Ou and Haku Ryu for mumei's affection), the plot based on cheating really doesn't fit in with the genre, so yes the plot was really a poor 3. Art, ok so there isn't any panty shots that can be seen with any of them eye candies, but it does have one episode that features Ms. Ou in a hot swim suit and just this last episode , her in a sexy Qi Pao , and that is a fair enough 6. The rest where just too dorky in a fashion sense, like Mumei's pant's that were style to be a chino pants and him sporting white long arm band, Ms. Ou's teacher outfit and her Chung Li's hair style, Kou chan's glasses, Zhou's long hair, Jun's headset and Anri's outfit, where it can be consider as a serious crime of fashion. You if only studio Balde could have added a lot of fanservice around here, then maybe this dorky anime could have been saved. Sound, I'd probably say that it's a good 7, since the voice did matched the right character's , like Ms. Ou having a matured voice and Kou having a childish voice. CHaracter, I'd say it was really a Pathetic 1 , thing cu'z the character's themselves, aside from being annoying, really don't match this anime, like : Mumei Shokatsu, he'd probably should be in Akame ga Kill, cu'z of his Shokatsu Technique. Also, for him to rely on Kou to pass and being this master of martial arts, was really an oxymoron on his role, now he has the time and determination to learn the Shokatsu Technique and even level it up to a Nichirin Shoten, and yet he has a hard time of studying to become a L type and prefers to be a C type, well, if he's a C- type then that simply makes his character as a C as in crooked and cheap, one reason for him being pathetic. since he's very much a double standard. Koui Ou, is very much a character, where one would probably prefer that she be hostile to Mumei by keeping him off her test paper nd just let him get kicked out, rather than be his tool for passing, let's face it Mumei doesn't even acknowledge her feeling for him, and instead he goes for Haku Ryu, and yet there she still hopes to be romantically involve with Mumei, how stupid was she? If she is to be in the right anime, then she should be in Baka to test. Anri, we the audience, where left to wonder if she is a C or an L, for the entire episode from 1 to 12 we never see her cheat nor do we see her being smart. Also, letting us audience know her powers was lately introduced in to this anime, she could have been an awesome eye candy if not for her dorky fashion. Too bad she was just limited as another support just like Rinu Shu, if she is to be in the right anime , then she would fit in at Highschool DxD. Rinu Shu, I'd say he's gaaaaaaay and he should be in Gakuen Hansome. Bugman, JUN, should be in Shaman King. Teacher Miss . Ou, ok, at one point she is this 30 something single lady who hope to get marry, and then a 90 degree turn make him same kind of ET who is hired to give the ultimate test of insanity of destroying earth..............LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anime where she should be????????Anywhere as long as it's hentai. Haku Ryu, is just too sweet and nice to be here and she would be a better fit in "Orange." Enjoyment, a decent 4, since I just bear with it all along, so. Overall, it's just an anime of too many oxymoron of the character's, double standards of the roles of the character and with all that anachronisms, this thing is just toooooooo dreadful 2 the max, so no, no, no, I don't give a fuck as to what had happen to Mumei after we heard a BANG, no, no, no to a sequel of what kind. Whoahoho OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!BANG!
I'm honestly not sure how this show received a go for production but I'm guessing some cheating was involved. Apparently, there's a country in which success in life is solely based on an exam. Students attempt to pass this exam using various techniques, including cheating. The show follows cheating expert and inheritor of the paper/wind/fire-controlling Shokatsu technique, Mumei Shokatsu and his actually test-literate partner in crime, Koui Ou. This is one of the worst mockeries/parodies that I've seen in ages and it really was neither funny nor cohesive. Do yourself a favor and save yourself a few brain cells by watching something else. Animation: The show hasa fairly good animation package overall. Expect a bright, colorful landscape with decent CGI backgrounds and a rather wild assortment of different settings for the tests. Yes, tests plural. The characters are distinct enough though the show decides to draw most of the unimportant characters as grey blobs in the background. Expect rather basic character expressions as this is a rather light show. There is a fair amount of action in the show, as the cheaters (known as C-type) basically treat tests like fights where they must "defeat" all the other test takers and then quickly copy answers before time expires. Battles are usually rather short and are usually resolved by an assortment of ultimate attacks, these are preceded by the protagonist calling his attack followed by each kanji character flashing across the screen. After the carnage is complete, some random announcer repetitively comments on how awesome the attack was and how only one who has mastered the style could use the attack blah blah. There are some brief fan-service moments thrown in including the obligatory bathing suit scene. Honestly though, neither the action nor the ecchi will satisfy viewers in their respective categories. Sound: The show opens with a decently-paced melody that if anything is a bit generic. The ED is a short and playful tune that serves its purpose well. The BGM only consists of a few tunes, the positive of which is that certain tunes will become somewhat familiar by the end of the show. The VA cast is rather surprising as you get huge veterans in many of the roles. I haven't seen the likes of Rie Kugimiya in a main role in ages and likewise haven't heard from Kotono Mitsuishi in a while too. On top of that, we have prolific Youko Hisaka and rising talent Reina Ueda. Unfortunately, I feel the talent is somewhat wasted as the characters here are as cookie cutter as they come. Story: Thank goodness these are half-length episodes as I found it difficult to even make it through that length. Each episode basically shows the class taking tests in various ridiculous settings, like on top of a waterfall or on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Each "stage" has a boss (i.e. test proctor) who likewise gives an incredulous feeling to the show; these include a drunken master and a shark with an augmented brain. After half a season's worth of random and seemingly pointless tests, the show decides to do some random parodies of other shows/concepts. In the last episode, it builds towards a climax of sorts, which is an unnecessarily artificial escalation. The best words I can think of to describe the story are contrived and idiotic. Character: If you are looking for a prime example of what a cookie cutter character is, you've found it. The characters here have literally no depth nor exposition. They are given gimmicky frosting in the form of flashy poses and moves, but otherwise their personalities and behaviors are rigid and simplistic. No one is at all relatable and there are no real relationships in the show. They supposedly try to create a bit of a rivalry in the middle of the season but it feels both out of place and ill executed. Value: Again, I have no idea how this show launched, but it is a disservice to anime as a whole. The characters are a mess and the story is poorly executed and in bad taste. I'm happy the wonderful VAs got a paycheck but it's a shame to have such a poor work associated with their names. Cheating Craft is neither comical nor enjoyable. It may take the simple concept of test taking and attempt to make it exciting, but in the end, it just makes a mockery of what should honestly be a pretty serious matter.
This was a wondrous trainwreck tbh - Overall, this ain't that bad a thing to watch if you're in a mood to criticize something; even for those who are rather lax while watching something. If you want an actual story or series, tho, then just dodge this like the plague. The saddest thing is that all of this show's problem is spoiler-free... due to there nothing available to spoil that'd stop people from giving this a go. And those that dodge even the barest spoiler (eg if it's worth the watch) wouldn't have bothered reading these things lol .:STORY:. (2/10) Okay, so the story is basicallya huge mocking of the insane level of criteria to "succeed" in life starting from one's childhood/teen years. First episode uses a mini story to help explain the severity of it plus the system in which it thrives albeit everything's so intense that it forces the viewer to not expect much realism or connection to the cast hence-forth. Personally, this is a wise decision. And by the second episode, we're pretty much fully familiar with the actual cast and apparently the story takes place in a middle school. For the translation they might as well have just called it high school given the Chinese secondary schooling works differently, but it really matters little to the story itself as there's so little school time portrayed other than exams and maybe lunch. Also keep in mind that starting with the second episode that there. is. nothing. story. related. More-or-less everything is "hyped" up in teen fashion and it's rather blatant (especially in hindsight) given how straight to the point the main duo is about their scenario and so by the time they ditch the daily exam routine halfway through, you can tell it's gotta be a family thing. The rest of the episodes from there on simply continue not really caring about practicality and just doing whatever until the end. In a way the writers gave it a "proper" season finale but as there's no actual story and this all takes place in their first semester, there's no reward for having it made. :.CHARACTER:. (5/10) The characters have very little point to being other than just used to make a nonsense story. Nothing's wrong or good about any of them, but at least we dodged pointless backstories. Not only does it save time but it truly saved effort in watching this. .:ART:. (9/10) It was simple at times, but mostly everything was rather pleasant to watch and it matched the tone of what was said/shown. The designs were rather nice as well and it's cute that the main duo show a cowlick/ahoge to represent their blood relation. .:SOUND:. (8/10) I don't normally pay heed to the music unless it's jarring or totally my style, but it was utilized very well and the vocal/sfx quality was high. VAs weren't bad either bar personal taste. .:ENJOYMENT:. (3/10) There are times when I am glad it's a short duration show, and there are times I'm so glad I can save time without having to skip ahead. Both was the case this time 'round. Most of my dissatisfaction was the lazy adaption/writing and knowing it would've easily been a 5/10 at the very least had it not tried to act like a show with a "deep" in the second-half. .:OVERALL:. (4/10) Did I mention it's a trainwreck?
First things first. This anime is bad. Period. The story is as bad as it can be, you get a protagonist with cheating powers based on a secret technic wich is depicted seriously bad. This guy has a sister that is smart, don't care about her, she doesn't matter. Smart people don't get anything at this, the main focus is about cheating on exams and it continues the same until the end. Art, nothing to talk about Overall music might be decent but your not likely to watch this for the music. Characters plain and bad. Easily forgettable for every character. You could remember about them for the seriesbeing so bad. If you have the ability to switch off your brain or looking for something to waste your life on, this is it. Overall score: 0/10 can't have a 0 on the ratings tough Completed for the sake of not leaving a 12 episode anime with 12 minutes for each chapter beeing unseen; don't make the same mistake as I did.
Geez... and LA thought fighting over bento boxes was a stupid and wacky premise for a shounen. Cheating Craft is but a simple anime short shounen about essentially cheating your way through superpowered school equipment and the like in order to even stand a chance in the world. But our fledging cheater and genius of Cheating Craft Shokatsu Mumei voiced by Tomohiro Yamaguchi and Qiao Yi Huang voiced by Rie Kugimiya will beat the national test in order for Mumei's father to be freed from prison for a crime he did not commit..........so basic shounen plot right there. We also get the typical rivals and allies suchas Lun Yu Zhou voiced by Daisuke Namikawa the red string pen wielder and is a rival to Mumei though he doesn't show it at first, Jun voiced by Junya Ikeda the bug type user and main cast butt monkey of the main cast and has a crush on Qiao Yi Huang and our love interest for Mumei and perfect student of the class, Bai Jiu Liu voiced by Reina Ueda who always causes Mumei to lose focus of his goal to save his father. These characters are for the most part important to the plot to some extent and that's ok. Ohh and also Lun Yu Zhou and Mumei has this also yaoi vibe when they are near each other and Qiao Yi Huang seems to have a thing for that kind of stuff. LA's favourite character?...the only character LA didn't talk about..Li Xing voiced by Yoko Hikasa, a mysterious student that keeps an eye on Mumei and Qiao Yi Huang for some odd reason, unfortunately she hardly had any screentime to even get to her or know more about her. Cheating Craft's plot has a tendency to follow shounen tropes only in a rushed state due to it being an anime short and all, you know the Teacher or environmental hazard of the episode, training tower mini-arc, superpower upgrade, rival battle and final boss...it's not terrible by any means especially for an anime short but still it's almost parody levels only taking itself straight. Cheating Craft also diverts alot of attention from Mumei and Qiao Yi Huang's goal with tangential episodes going nowhere (as in no test instead just fillery episodes especially in the latter half) and again Mumei being distracted by Bai Jiu Liu. The plot if anything is scattershot in it's pacing and the characters in question are most certainly not helping. On speaking of environmental hazards, there is just one question LA wants answered with Cheating Craft, when the test are taken and the cheaters start battling with each other OR the teacher in question why does the environment immediately change? (LA isn't talking about when Wang, the main cast's homeroom teacher does the tests as they are on location, LA means the metaphorical battle arena both the cheaters and teachers fight in are NEVER explained) is it meant to symbolize the mood of the test or are they actually fighting in a metaphorical battle arena so they can cheat better? The animation done by Blade is ok enough, from the consistent character designs look strikely distinct and even the aforementioned metaphorical battle arena's do set the mood for the tests given in question. The battles themselves on the other hand, well they have the calligraphy-eqsue name calling notion mostly for Mumei and some stock-used battle motions used time and again (backed up with the same Test OST used every time), the battles are ok, but LA wouldn't call it great because of it's shortcomings. The voice acting is decent enough, LA enjoyed Rie Kugimiya going full tsundere (it's been a while) as well as seeing her snarky tongue-in-cheek side as well. Reina Ueda was doing her typical nice girl archetype moe vocals and was expected. LA would say the bets voice actor in Cheating Craft however goes to Kotono Mitsushi as Wang for reasoning on the finale and she HAMMED it up, even though she was kinda the genki ham all throughout the anime short anyways. Cheating Craft is expected stock shounen with a crazy premise such as cheating in class taken to it's utmost extremes, it has it's plot problems from pacing, cliche tropes of the genre and not developing characters to not explaining things to the audience. Is Cheating Craft another botched attempt by the Chinese?, no it has spirit and at least a bit of a wacky shounen personality and at very least it's entertaining in a different way. Mediocrity is the best Cheating Craft gets and that's a compliment!
Cheating Craft was the one of the worst anime I've watched to date. The first episode introduced an interesting concept, but they had no clue on how to execute. It was confusing, didn't make sense, and the characters had no depth and the power system was terrible. Starting from episode 2 I got the feeling they had no clue what to do with this series and was just putting episodes out. The biggest problem is that they made the show have no direction. The show never went in a linear path, it just went backwards. The music was alright for a show this bad. Theother issue this show has was the power system. The power system literally makes no sense, and since there's literally 5 characters who get screen time, you really don't know what the power system can be based on.
WOOOOOW. I finished watching the final episode and was blown away by the ineptitude of it all. This WILL come as a shock but this is an action parody anime will "humor" somewhere i guess. There's tons of great ideas, as shown in the first episode. But as you watch you realize that the show has no purpose. We never hear character goals for when they graduate. The written test doesn't matter because the goal of the test is to kill/knockout the teacher and do whatever you want. Also the only rivalry in the show is DESTROYED by having an entire episode be nothing but a montageof a loosely coherent storyboard. The OP and ED are amazing in my opinion because they bring back a mid 2000s feel that makes the show seem like it will be corny and I like it that way. Too bad the show lets down in every way. It can't even be watched for laughs because there is no comedy and execution of the story that exists is rushed and limp. I actually liked all the characters but all efforts to flesh them out were destroyed by the director and the show's refusal to try to learn more about any of them. We end up with some interesting powers and stereotypes but they go nowhere. To sum it all up. The show believes its being a self-aware action comedy, but in reality it's just some 5 year old kid making explosion sounds and action poses to himself without doing anything with the decent idea he actually came up with. See the first and final episodes only and you will get the idea of everything that happened.
for me this anime is a wasted potentiel, i mean the characters were cool i'm not gonna lie but there isn't any real story..... we also have the fact that 2 or 3 episodes are fillers. when i did read about this anime i really did think that it would just be students cheating but instead it's about super powers fights during exams ???? sure anime are unreal but well it did make me upset. nothing makes sense please don't loose your time like me watching this one but if you want you can watch the anime on youtube if you're french with subtitles p.s :sorry for the mistakes i'm not perfect in english
I hate that i don't hate it But this doesn't feel like a real anime, it feels more like an anime they watch on the background of an anime, or like an anime writed by someone who doesn't know what anime is, but has like a vague knowledge of some tropes and think like all anime are like this, kind like kappa mikey (?) You know what The entirety of this anime feels like a gag they'll make on Gintama, but as i said at the beginning i don't hate it, it made me laugh a couple of times by the absurdity of the jokes, andit's a very short anime the chapters clocking 10/11 minutes so if you watchit and don't like it at least it won't take that much time of your life
I've yet to see any anime like this, with so much yet so little going on at the same time. This feels like a total waste of what could have potentially been an extremely interesting concept for a story, but I don't really know what Blade Studio was trying to go for here. It quickly became just a ironically funny, mediocre show to watch Plot: It's basic, in a world where taking tests decides your fate as a member of society, students fall into 1 of 2 categories. Learning Type or "L-Type" and Cheating Type or "C-Type". The L-Types finish the tests and give the answers theC-Types, and the C-Types protect the L-Types from other students who don't want them to pass. Everyone has their own unique way of cheating in order to pass these tests, but often times, the school bests the cheaters and has defenses in place to catch them in the act. There's so many over the top action sequences for relatively no reason, trying to make the show seem a lot more interesting than it actually is. The characters are either super annoying or boring, and there are several episodes which are just completely pointless to watch. The animation isn't too bad, but when its backed by 0 purpose and an all around kind of shitty story execution, it gets overshadowed by the fact. It doesn't help that after episode 6, the series rolls further down hill than it starts at, which is actually kind of impressive, because after that, the whole "Intense test taking" aspect just gets kind of....forgotten about, and it just becomes a jumble of random shit happening to try and show off the unique abilities of the students', which are very very lackluster. Just a lot of wasted efforts on this series, because it really should have been better. It's ironically funny just because of how bad and stupid it is, that's why it didn't just get a flat 1 rating from me. I guess you can like this series if you don't want something that actually has a good story, or interesting characters, but I wouldn't expect much out of this garbage fire. Animation: 5/10 Art: 4/10 Story: 2/10 Characters: 2/10 Voice Acting: 4/10
