Following the successful end of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Konohagakure has been enjoying a period of peace, prosperity, and extraordinary technological advancement. This is all due to the efforts of the Allied Shinobi Forces and the village's Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. Now resembling a modern metropolis, Konohagakure has changed, particularly the life of a shinobi. Under the watchful eye of Naruto and his old comrades, a new generation of shinobi has stepped up to learn the ways of the ninja. Boruto Uzumaki is often the center of attention as the son of the Seventh Hokage. Despite having inherited Naruto's boisterous and stubborn demeanor, Boruto is considered a prodigy and is able to unleash his potential with the help of supportive friends and family. Unfortunately, this has only worsened his arrogance and his desire to surpass Naruto which, along with his father's busy lifestyle, has strained their relationship. However, a sinister force brewing within the village may threaten Boruto's carefree life. New friends and familiar faces join Boruto as a new story begins. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

After almost 6 years of mostly weekly new episodes, Boruto has come to a close... to its first part. It started airing very shortly after Naruto's story came to a conclusion and it had a tie in movie that it had to live up to. Did it manage to do it? No, not by a long shot. See, one of the main problems of having a weekly shonen that never seems to end is that once you run out of material to adapt you either choose to go the filler route or the anime canon route. The original Naruto went with the former and led toan infamous proportion of non relevant episodes, some quite badly scheduled might I add, to the point where you could spend an entire year watching and come out of it with nothing to gain from it. In this case, Boruto decided to go with the latter and the result was somehow even worse. Not only were some of those arcs dreadful to watch, their lack of quality showed in its poor animation and the same 4 tracks playing over and over again: the chill track, the conflict track, the battle track and the resolution track. It might be an exaggerated number that's the way it was perceived, more so considering that almost 90% of the show isn't adapted from the manga. One would say that this isn't necessarily a bad thing if the anime canon episodes tried to develop some of the other supporting characters in a meaningful way, and very few of them do. But alas, Boruto's classmates are mostly not as remarkable as the previous generation. I'm emphasizing on this aspect since the set of episodes that do adapt the manga well not only feature the best moments in the show with genuine emotion but also well choreographed battle sequences and a more engaging premise. Yes, not everything in this show is terrible, it does have some merits to it. As a result, it is my belief that if they had adapted only those sections in a spread out seasonal manner, the rating would have been much higher, maybe even surpassing the original Naruto. That of course didn't happen and I highly doubt the next part is gonna be any different.
Should you watch Boruto? If you want to see the continuation of the franchise, but you are reading mixed reviews, looking at the low score and thinking is it worth your time, look no further. First I want to start with the fact that I like the show, the main plot of it is at least on point and I hope, combined with what's coming, it might be a worthy successor of Naruto. However, the fillers are.... simply empty, as if you have just wasted 23 minutes of your life. My personal advice is to use Boruto Filler list and watch only manga canon, whileanime cannon eps are 20 min filler with a chance for 3 min major plot detail. Story: In terms of the episodes I've seen (skipped 221-286) I believe the main story is very good and it is going to get better "hopefully" in part 2. However the filler eps and some anime cannon are really *skippable* and just there to have something every weekend. Here you must understand that Studio Pierrot started animating Boruto so early on, even reached the manga, while having majority of their staff working on other productions such as Black Clover. The first 50 episodes are mediocre. Afterwards, until around 180 episode, the majority of the eps are simply bad in all directions, with a few 2-3 min major plot things happening. While the last 3 have been amazing. Overall, I believe any Naruto fan will enjoy the story without the fillers. Now if you are fan of the Shinobi World, the fillers expand it by a lot. Art: This one is hard. The animation changed a few times in some arcs. There were some quality animated fights as if I was watching the Kakashi vs Obito fight (nothing can be compared to that, I'm sorry), but some of the filler and anime cannon eps were atrocious in this part. As if someone opened Paint in a hurry, just so we don't watch the black screen with subtitles. The final two episodes had consistent and good animation, but I guess we can only hope part 2 to keep it up. Sound: The only consistency of quality in the show. Voice acting on point. Intro & Outro are masterpieces, the fighting and general OSTs are amazing. The only problem is they aren't diverse enough and are overused, but generally on point. Character: Mediocre at best. I mean you already have the characters from Naruto well-known to most of the watchers. New main characters, which evolve with the show and then you have everyone else - generic master race. Antagonists are potraied mainly as evil, with few exceptions. Note from me: Ao was an amazing semi-side character, that you are gonna see around 180s eps, if you decide to watch the show. Enjoyment: The show is "ok-ish" from my perspective. I really enjoyed all the major plot-driven episodes. Everything else is a waste of time, it is not even funny bad. Overall: Should you watch Boruto? - I think I've managed to answer that above. Always skip fillers! It's an alright show as continuation of the franchise, it just really unfortunate that Studio Perriot couldn't have waited a few years on this one. To produce it with more quality in terms of Art,Character and Story in the side chapters. I rate it around 7,5 without fillers (and 6 with them). Binge watchers will find it more appealing, while those who waited for an episode every week could have been easily disappointed and more harsh in their views. Disclaimer: Take this as more of suggestion than a quality review, as my main rating is around the main plot and important episodes.
Boruto is a sequel to one of the best animes I have ever watched but for me sadly it is not 10 percent good as naruto if you are hoping for that. Still, if you consider Naruto a completed anime then Boruto won't be that bad. for me, I didn't even watch half of Boruto instead I followed a list of episodes on the internet that have manga content and some other important episodes and it worked for me again despite that still it is not that good but I will say that the only thing that may be better than Naruto is the fights.Boruto has 3 or 4 top-tier fights, especially Naruto and Sasuke fights. I really didn’t think Boruto was necessary. In fact, I’m quite sure that the majority of people still watching this show are mainly doing so just to see what their old favorite characters are up to. I would’ve been perfectly fine with another show about Naruto as an adult, perhaps, but Boruto? Not so much so why Boruto is bad? The author wants you to forget how powerful naruto is and want us to believe that naruto is just some stupid old man. They want our love, affection, and every other feeling for naruto to disappear and want us to find those in Boruto who achieve everything without reason and logic but you can say who is so much smarter than his dad but the level of power he gets before even graduating is unlogical (Possesses three change in chakra natures/Subconsciously” added Wind and Lightning Release chakra natures to his Rasengan/had better taijutsu than all 5 Kage combined defeating Momoshiki) and not to mention his own unique overpowered dojutsu and he achieved all that in a week of training so the good training arcs became a one episode training Boruto’s villains will never match the likes of Madara or the Akatsuki (Shin’s Akatsuki? I’m sorry- are you serious?). In terms of personality, I’ve found that none of the Otsutsuki have been even nearly as enjoyable to watch- and although they’re definitely strong, in a way, they’re not quite as intimidating as those characters either. Do you remember Pain’s Invasion with Kakashi and Jiraiya’s death? The amount of pure emotion and terror those moments held was unexplainable. When we saw Madara running to fight the entire Allied Shinobi Forces, we could see each of them trembling and praying for their lives. And by the point that Boruto is currently at, Naruto also had Orochimaru, who at one point was just about the scariest person in the show. Naruto has some iconic villains with interesting motivations and beliefs — pain, Itachi, Madara, etc. But most of the Boruto villains are pretty one-dimensional, only interesting due to being strong. It makes them more boring and the interactions with them less interesting they are all a bad version of Kaguya The older characters are never shown as strong as they should be, naruto and Sasuke in particular are just pathetic — even before being literally nerfed by losing Kurama and the rinnegan I know it's not fair to directly compare the two series, and I am sure that the original manga of Boruto is really good, but it is currently in development and has not progressed that much yet. So the anime makers are just trying to keep things slow until the manga gets its way forward. But I don't think this is fair, making 80% of the series filled with unimportant stuff. They should have waited for some more years. But they wanted the attention of viewers and to keep them engaged. so I hope they wait at least a year or so before they continue the next season
The rating of boruto is just exaggerated. The show is not bad. It has perfect blend of old and new characters. I was hesitant while watching this after seeing the hate on the internet. People follow the trend of hate. This show is just the level of Naruto classic iif you only see the manga eps. The storytelling is also great. You wil feel nostaligic if you are a naruto fan. ik fillers are a headache bc there is nothing seperating canon and fillers. You can only watch these eps and you will not miss anything and you will be saved from the fillersEp 1,19-23,39,53-66,148-151,181-189,193-208,212-220,287-293 and also watch ep 13 and 14 bc there is a backstory of an important character in there
Do you think Naruto is a complete character(whose story is complete)? If you only consider until the point when he became Hokage, then Yes. But that's not true. He became Hokage at the age around 30. It means more than Half of his life is still remaining(Considering 70-80 to be Average life time). In Boruto, He Became Hokage then we see him being tired and exhausted all the time. If someone like Naruto who have Insane amount of Chakra get exhausted with Hokage's work then I wonder how previous Hokages managed to do it so. We also don't see him making Shadow Clones to do Paper Work,of all the explanation I read on Internet, Only one which seems convincing is: Writers wanted to create some ridiculous Problem for Boruto. We also saw in Boruto How badly Naruto is Nerfed. Naruto has vast amount of Chakra(Uzumaki), Kurama's Chakra and Power and Sage of Six Paths Power. But After all this he is soo weak that he can't even put up a fight against delta. Excuse was His kids were there, then why not create shadow clones which is his Speciality. Both him and Sasuke can't even give a fight to Jigen(In karma mode, not Isshiki). Writers came with a bullshit Baryon Mode for 5 minutes which took out Kurama and then they pull out momoshiki Card just to take out Sasuke's Rinnegan. After Kurama Vanished, Everyone goes around like nothing happened, especially Naruto. For Naruto, Kurama was like his Body Part. He was there since he was an Infant but still they can't even put up a good Emotional Scene. Later, Naruto Became more weak, weaker than a Genin. His own son keep disrespecting him. He also had to see his own son going through the same fate of being a vessel, bearing a monster inside like him and losing control to that monster and hurting his loved ones. He also had to see his adopted son trying to kill his own son. He got Sealed Away by Kawaki, later on. Naruto, after everything he went through doesn't deserve this type of Life and ending. He doesn't deserve to be an irrelevant character in any story(especially in his own son's story). We all wanted Naruto to become the greatest Hokage but If this is his life after becoming Hokage then I wish he never would've become Hokage. I know that This show is about Boruto than why not those writers focused on character development of Boruto instead of nerfing and destroying Naruto, Sasuke and other old characters. Instead of forcing the story of Boruto to have a problem so that he can have motivation to do anything, they should have given Boruto motivation like Itachi or something. Something like Protecting the Legacy of his father and other hokages, Protecting the village, it's people and all. They Should have given Boruto and other side characters their own unique personality( By this, I mean different way of doing things/different thinking and all. Obviously Physical appearances will be similar). Let's see the childhood of some main characters of Naruto: 1. Naruto: Everybody in the village is either want him dead or want to lock him in some cage(Danzo). Everyone is the village always humiliates him. He was always lonely, had no friends, family or anyone. 2. Sasuke: He Saw his entire clan and parents getting murdered by his beloved brother Itachi. 3. Itachi: At the age of 16, he had to kill his entire clan and parents to stop the war from happening and to stop the Uchiha reputation getting tarnished. 4. Kakashi: He had no mother. He saw his father getting humiliated by the whole village. His father in the end killed himself. His friend got killed in saving him and his another friend got killed by his own hands. Now, Let's see the childhood of Boruto: He don't have any problem except His dad didn't come home and this happened only after he became Hokage when Boruto was 10 years old approx. But he still keeps complaining and disrespecting his father. Once he said, he is going to beat his father. why? bcoz He missed his and hima's Birthday. Tell me, will you beat your father just bcoz he didn't come home for your Bday Party. And why he didn't come? Bcoz he is the Hokage. He is just busier than other parents but He is not a toxic father, still he keeps disrespecting Naruto. After watching the real terrible childhood of Naruto and the others, they expects us to like this crap story of Boruto. There was no character development. There was not even a single episode where you see Boruto and the others working hard as Naruto and Sasuke used to do. Naruto and Sasuke had to work hard day and night just to walk on trees but In boruto, it's nothing. Boruto can pull out any fucking Chunin/Jounin level Jutsu in a fight without any explanation. In Naruto, they used to tell us How it works, When did he learn, by whom he learn, How did he learn etc.. But in boruto you never see this type of Explanation. Boruto can use 3 Chakra Natures. He unconsciously mixed lightning style in Rasengan and made it Vanishing Rasengan and that was nonsense. He can also use something called Gayle Palm(Gentle Fist) without having Byakugan. Once he scored Full Score in Test without doing anything while every other character was struggling and doing something. He is is also Lazy and always looking for shortcuts. He cheated in Chunin Exam against his own Friend. The plot portrays that He can do anything without working hard because he is a genius. In real life, I have seen various Talented/Genius People failing bcoz they didn't worked hard enough. Do you think that Messi could have been one of the Greatest Footballer, even if he never practiced or worked hard? Besides, He always just keeps whining and complaining. In the same story, we see other characters having real Problems. For Example, Sarada is struggling with Identity crisis because she never met her dad after gaining some sense. She only saw her dad while she was an infant. Kawaki had a toxic father, whole life he was locked up in some cage. He never got to eat fully while he was a kid. First he got tortured and abused by his own father. His own father sold him to Jigen who tortured him later on. Even Himawari is more understanding than Boruto. Himwari never complains like Boruto. Yes, she gets upset bcoz his father didn't come home and that is good but she never disrespect her father bcoz of that. They could've shown Father and Son Duo. They could've shown Naruto training and teaching Boruto. Boruto had a lot of Potential but the writers didn't even try. They just wanted to milk money, so they wrote this bullshit story. I don't have any Problem with Boruto getting stronger than Naruto, but Boruto should atleast be worthy of that and He is not. Every generation surpasses it's previous one but only if they work hard enough. This show don't have any emotionally hard-hitting scenes. They have tried to make it emotional but they didn't try enough. Many times, you feel like you heard this story in Naruto just with different characters and Names. Akatsuki=Kara, 8 trigams Seal=Karma, Nine tails= Otsutsuki, etc.. You see Boruto getting beat up in Funato arc just like you saw naruto getting beat up by a shinobi of the land of Iron when sasuke kidnapped Killer Bee. You see Boruto teaching a Rich Kid that money can't buy everything just like you saw naruto doing that in one of the fillers. There's more like that. Boruto can also cause change of heart of Villains like Naruto did. Do you know why it was possible for Naruto to do that? Bcoz Naruto was very close to becoming a Villain. Everyone treated Naruto like a monster. He understood those feelings completely. But Does Boruto understand that? Does Boruto ever went through all of that? They tried hard to force us ti see Naruto in Boruto and make it emotional. But they failed completely. In Boruto, Side characters became completely useless. It is Boruto Show. Every character is useless except Boruto and Kawaki(later on). This is what happened at the end of Naruto Shippuden and Now, I think it is done by Kishimoto deliberately, so that Boruto will have some Plot. When Naruto and Sasuke was fighting obito and Madara, Everybody was not that much useless like they are in Boruto or were when Kaguya was introduced. Sarada who has Sharingan is also completely useless. They made Sarada, another Sakura who just keeps crying, feeling insecure, feeling left behind and all. Genin, Chunin, Jounin, 2 Sanin, Hokage(Current and Previous), Other Kages, Everybody is useless. Only Boruto's and Kawaki's Karma is useful. Even Ninjutsu is useless. Handsigns are dead. There is no good dialogues in this show. In naruto, Ninja way was a big thing but there is no such thing in Boruto. The Hard-Hitting Dialogues of Pain, Madara and all was very impacting but there's no such thing in Boruto. There was not one good villain in the entire Series. In Naruto, Villains have a Background and clear answers of why they are doing things that they are doing. But in Boruto, you don't see this type of Explanation either. Otsutsuki just want to kill every planet and devour the chakra fruit, but why? Plot of Boruto compared to naruto is completely Bullshit. For me, Naruto was my Friend. Naruto was deeply relatable to me because my life was similar to him. I can't tell you the details but he was like me. We all spent 720 episodes with him and all the characters and saw their development. But just for money, They ruined it all in Boruto. After Reading Some Chapters of Boruto Two Blue Vortex, I have hopes that they will get back on track this time. At the end of Boruto Manga, Amado mentioned about Shibai Otsutsuki and becoming God by eating a hell lots of Chakra fruit. It opens a wide range of Possibilities and Questions. Amado also said that Shibai desperately left his body and went into another dimension, later confirmed by momoshiki. Why he did that? Who is god? In narutoverse, What is the Philosophy of God? Is God good or bad? what's the origin story of Otsutsuki? Who created the whole universe? Is it created by another Otsutsuki who became God? Then, who created Otsutsuki? In which Planet do they live, originally? The story of otsutsuki seems so dark that it makes me remember Liu Cixin's 3 Body Problem. There is a hell lot of Questions, I hope Kishimoto answers all of these.
The low ratings say more about the audience than the anime. Too many people criticize it halfway through without seeing how much it grows and never gave it a fair chance. Some dropped it early due to its slow pacing, others judged it through the lens of nostalgia. The irony? Many believe they already understand everything about it better than the author himself, without truly watching it unfold. Hence the title, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations carries the legacy of the ninja world from Naruto. Nonetheless, it tells a different kind of story: one rooted in peace, identity crisis, and generational conflict. It's reimagining what thenext chapter could look like when peace isn’t the end, but a new kind of battlefield. The narrative follows Boruto Uzumaki, the son of the Seventh Hokage, as he struggles to find his place in a world where technology thrives, war has faded, and the burden of being a "hero’s son" weighs heavily. Structurally, the anime is uneven. It's starting off slow, padded with filler episodes that can feel directionless but it builds over time into a layered, emotionally resonant story. Its character development is where it truly shines. Boruto’s growth from arrogant to introspective feels natural, and characters like Kawaki bring raw emotion and complexity, especially through his trauma and longing for belonging. Sarada and Mitsuki, though underused at times, also contribute to the strong ensemble cast. In terms of worldbuilding, the evolution of ninja technology (such as scientific tools and a revamped education system) highlights a significant shift in the values of the shinobi world. This evolution creates room for meaningful discussion about the true nature of strength and humanity in times of peace. It also shows that "peace" itself brings a new set of complex challenges, just as demanding as those faced during war. In short: it explores a post-war ninja society adapting to modernization, touching on deeper themes like purpose, peace, and generational burden. Visually, the show has highs and lows. While many filler episodes are plainly animated, the major fights like Naruto & Sasuke vs. Momoshiki or Kawaki’s battle deliver fluid, high-quality animation. The music supports the tone well, with opening themes like Lonely Go! and Bakemono enhancing the emotional beats, though the background score can be forgettable in slower arcs. The voice acting is consistently solid; Yuko Sanpei as Boruto and Yuma Uchida as Kawaki give layered performances that elevate their characters’ emotional weight. On a moral level, Boruto doesn’t just rehash its predecessor’s values rather it questions them. It explores the weight of legacy, the meaning of true strength, and the cost of peace, without always giving easy answers. It’s a slower burn compared to Naruto, but if given the patience, it rewards you with thoughtful themes and growth. In terms of enjoyment, it’s a mix. Early arcs may test your patience, but later ones pay off emotionally and narratively. As for rewatch value, specific arcs and fights are definitely worth revisiting, though the pacing may hinder full rewatchability for some. In the end, Boruto is not just a continuation but a generational handoff. It dares to carve out its own identity rather than merely "echoing the past". If you're willing to embrace change and look beyond nostalgia, it offers you a story that grows in meaning the longer you stay with it.
Honestly, I don’t get the hate. People keep comparing Boruto to Naruto, but this is not Naruto’s story. It’s the next generation. Why would we expect them to be worse off in terms of skills? That’s not how progress works lols we’re literally in the AI era now. The anime-canon episodes are quite important for character development. You get to know main and side characters better, and it gives the story more heart beyond just big fights. Also, seeing the old gen as parents is lowkey wholesome. ❤️ If you go into Boruto expecting Naruto 2.0, you’ll be disappointed. However, if you watch it for what itis — the growth of a new generation in a different era — you’ll find it’s actually a meaningful continuation. Give it a real chance. Just skip the obvious fillers 😄
8.5/10...THAT ENDING SLAPS I watched this without having watched Naruto or Naruto shippuden and I am glad because I knew that watching it after would just have made me compare the two side by side, and without Naruto's influence this anime is a solid 8.5/10...Boruto is such a raw character, nothing like his father but at the same time so much like him? I loved the fact that he was not written just to please the audience and was made into something unique! I can see why people aren't very enthusiastic about it...Naruto for them is peak as well as nostalgia BUT as I said watchingBoruto without having watched Naruto first really made my opinion differ so much from others. Every character has their own demons to fight, being the child of a famous personality isn't always sunshine and rainbows, when they can rarely make time for you. Everything these children do is judged to what their parents did in the past, some embrace it like Sarada and some choose to switch away from it completely like Boruto. 'You should do you because you are not your father' , Boruto said that many times throughout the anime, not just to himself but to everyone who was suffering from the same fate. I would have loved it if Hinata were to be more involved in his life and for Naruto as well as Sasuke to have had a better character design since they are the characters people were obviously the most hyped about including me and that makes me take away the 2.5 away. THANKYOU
Well, if you are expecting to watch this series as some sort of naruto's sequel you're getting it kinda wrong. If I were you I'd stop at naruto and that's it. There is just way too much new technology-based stuff that really doesn't relate with the original content. I'd honestly prefer to play ninja outside and to hit the gym than watch this one. Just get an extra set of muscles. In my opinion this is only worth to watch under one scenario. If you want to impress someone in a bar about how to do sign language and you somehow manage to trick them intothinking that your jutsu signs are really amazing then you might just get laid, take advantage of that! Now in a more serious way, if you have a bunch of free time you can just watch it but between watching this or cooking pasta let's just say that I wouldn't be starving from now on!
After finishing Naruto, I decided to give Boruto a shot. I’d heard a lot of people call it terrible, but I figured, for the sake of Naruto, I’d give it a chance. Big mistake. I regret that decision for the rest of my life. Let’s get one thing straight: Boruto is not like Naruto. While Naruto had a lot of filler, at least some of it was fun or added something to the characters. Boruto’s anime, on the other hand, is just... bad. The fact that nearly 0% of it is considered filler makes it even worse because you’re stuck watching canon episodes that feel pointlessor poorly written. It drags the legacy of Naruto through the mud, and that hurts as someone who grew up loving the original series. Here’s the thing—the manga is actually pretty good. It’s not perfect, but it’s way more focused and enjoyable than the anime. The anime just doesn’t do the story justice. It feels like they’re stretching everything out, adding unnecessary content, and losing the essence of what made Naruto great. If you really want to experience Boruto, do yourself a favor and stick to the manga. If you absolutely have to watch the anime, at least skip everything that isn’t manga canon. Trust me, you’ll save yourself so much frustration. Boruto is not worth the time or effort unless you’re super curious, and even then, you’re better off reading the manga instead. Naruto deserves better, and so do you. Final verdict: Skip the anime, read the manga.
An amazing journey for 7 years. Full of ups and downs. The part 1 ended last sunday. All I can say is, as a die hard fan of Naruto/Boruto its been an amazing journey. Boruto Anime though doesn't have good opinion to lots of people. But I can't make them decide what should I watch. I enjoyed Boruto anime especially the filler/anime original arcs and episodes. The anime original arcs/episodes put more detail to the story and personality of the main characters and supporting characters which it doesn't happen in the manga. The academy, we get to see all Boruto's classmates. And i really loved sliceof life episodes. Since its a modern era, I feel relate to what they do. The mitsuki's arc is really great too. Time slip arc also. OP and ED theme songs are always great in Boruto Anime too liked in the original series. The manga canon episodes are great period. People always says Boruto is immature. His immaturity already ended back in 2018. And it's normal for kids to be like that. People really like to exaggerate common things. haha The thing that I don't liked about the anime is the original characters, I sometimes feel or noticed they are not the same as back in Shippuden. People also says a lot about it's not about ninja anymore. All I can say is you guys should watch before you speak. Aliens? well they been introduced back in shippuden so that made me really curios about the otsutsuki clan. But If you all watched the anime it's not all about otsutsukis. The animation is great for a weekly or long running anime. Though the inconsistency in animation is understandable since it's not seasonal especially in 2022, there's a lot of inconsistency in the animation in 2022 last year which receive a lot of criticism and haters happily mocked and slander the show. But I'm really hoping part 2 will gain positive opinions. I'm hoping all the staffs will really worked hard more for the anime. For people who's planning to watch Boruto anime. Watch it first before judging. Thank you. Anyways this is just my own opinion. Hahahaha
This is an unnecessary sequel Like so many sequels, there was no point in making Boruto. Naruto ended by wrapping up everything it set out to do. Did it do it flawlessly? Far from it, but this sequel doesn’t do something that makes it worth continuing the plot. It ruins everything the first protagonist managed to accomplish by trashing the world peace he achieved at the end of the series. The only reason it was made for is money, because people want to see more Naruto (aka it was made to sell based on nostalgia), and it fails even there since it hardly makes the moneyof the first series. It also doesn’t develop the themes any further. It just rehashes the same old stuff in a far more boring way. Why? Because this anime is 80% filler The fans can dub it anime original all they want and it won’t change the fact there is nothing of interest going on for most of its duration. The original content goes nowhere and the supposed fleshing out it offers to secondary events compared to the source material (the manga) doesn’t make anything better. It just makes it slower and more boring. Why? Because Boruto is mostly slice of nothing happens Most episodes are completely skippable, since you won’t miss a thing if you don’t watch them. The bullshit excuses of ‘you guys are being impatient’ cannot be used when it is expected from you to tolerate hundreds of episodes of nothingness. An excuse many were using is how the fillers are needed for making us like the characters, so we will eventually feel sad when they die once the flash forward happens. Although a legit reason, outside the main three none others managed to be likable. Why? Most side characters are boring The new generation is mostly cloned from the previous generation, and most episodes are just rehashing ideas from Naruto with none of the tension or the plot continuity to make them worthwhile. This is a generation that was raised to be pampered and spoiled, with Boruto being essentially a zoomer. A spoiled brat with no actual problems in his life, who hates his father despite him doing his best to love him and to maintain world peace. He is a shallow piece of shit with first world problems who keeps nagging despite being highly privileged and overpowered thanks to the genes of his father. And even this aspect gets forgotten after awhile, turning Boruto into a generic kid who just wants to eat hamburgers and play videogames. The older characters overshadow the newer ones Since the older generation is still present, it makes you wonder why they didn’t just make fillers about characters the viewers actually care about, and instead focus on their clones which have done nothing and have gone through no adversity to make you give a damn. Watching hundreds of episodes just for (somewhat) liking a few minor background characters who are just clones of already established characters is just not worth it. You can’t even accuse the viewer for expecting more than what he was promised. Why? Because the first episode is baiting you with an event you never actually see in present time The series began with a flash forward that builds up a lot of expectations in terms of action and suspense. Then it flashes back to present time where nothing of significance happens and stays there forever. The plot never gets to that moment. The writer did it because he knew people won’t be interested in slice of nothing happens and wanted to somehow keep them around by promising bullshit about the future. The result was disappointing for everyone since almost nobody would stick around for hundreds of boring episodes, and the few who did never got what they were anticipating for several years. Most fights are also boring There is action from time to time, but none of them are interesting since they don’t pose any actual threat. With Naruto and Sasuke around it feels like the bad guys can be defeated whenever those two feel like it. Even the strongest baddies are beaten with crappy power ups that come out of nowhere instead of being the result of training. Also, the animation is usually very lazy and doesn’t allow the fights to be exciting. As a result the action ends up being as boring as the daily activities. Even if you somehow like some of the better animated fights, they too get ruined by a very serious problem. Lack of consequence The biggest offender is Boruto himself, who despite cheating in the chuunin exam and getting exposed in front of everyone by his own father, gets away with it and carries on like nothing of importance has happened. Then he runs around with an alien ninja ghost inside him, who can possess him at any moment and kill everyone, and nobody gives a damn.
The depressing, unnecessary sequel. Is Boruto bad? Yes, but there are many reasons for that. However, before I point out the points that make me think this, I would like to describe my first impression of the anime: The first episode was simply cinematic, with Konoha completely destroyed even with Naruto as Hokage and only Boruto left to face the powerful threat that Kawaki represented at that moment, both with a stunning and imposing look. It was a great start to the anime. At the time this was happening, many things were going through my head, such as what happened to Konoha and its ninjas? What areKawaki's powers and what is Karma? Above all, the question everyone asked themselves was, what happened to Naruto? Well, it was a very impressive first impression right away, but it's a shame that everything was so poorly done. The anime is definitely bad and boring to watch. I say it's bad for many reasons, the first is that despite having 293 episodes, the anime can't maintain a good quality of episodes, since there are very few episodes that are fun and exciting to watch, and even among these episodes, most of the moments like that are with Naruto or other secondary characters, the only time when the new characters provide some fun scene to watch is precisely in the first episode only. Another point that is worth mentioning is about the fillers that have always been problematic since Naruto Shippuden, the fillers here are very boring and boring, there is not a single filler that is even remarkable, even if a filler is boring just because it delays the story, the least they could do is make a filler interesting, as an example we have the fillers of Classic Naruto that didn't even seem like filler because they mixed it so much with the story. Anyway, here in Boruto it's just something extremely bad. The animation is pretty bad. I didn't like the animation style, even in moments when the animation should have been very detailed to have a greater impact on the viewer, this doesn't happen. Naruto's fight in Baryon mode is a great example of how bad the animation is. The fluidity of the fights isn't bad, but since the animation is bad, this makes the final result bad. There are many other things that I could point out, such as the trivialization of jutsus with a technology that steals jutsus and creates them out of thin air, bad and very poorly developed powers, plot holes (a classic of Naruto since ancient times), a terrible way of dealing with the characters we already knew and finally, what bothered me the most was the fact that they portrayed Naruto as an absent father just because it was convenient for Boruto's development, a character development for Boruto at the cost of regression in Naruto's character development. Anyway, I won't go on any longer, I give it a 5 and I'm still being merciful because it deserved less, the only reason I got a 5 is because I'm a big fan of Naruto and Naruto himself because he had a big impact on my life. I don't recommend you watch Boruto, stay with Naruto Shippuden and ignore this damn sequel.
If you want to enjoy a good story that is on it's way to becoming GREAT, I would strongly advise you SKIP the filler and non-manga related episodes. Once you've watched the main story and want more Boruto content, go ahead and watch the rest, but be warned, the filler is strong with this one... As a long time Naruto fan, both manga and anime, I was very excited when the sequel was initially announced. Post release, I noticed a pattern which was foreshadowing the downfall... The creators and directors were definitely inspired by Pein's famous quote "This world shall know pain" when writing the fillercontent of the anime. I am sad to see the rating now averaging barely 5.5 when the ACTUAL story itself, especially with recent manga developments has proven to have a lot of potential and value which I hope will be thoroughly developed in Part 2. In my honest opinion, at this point I believe the show's release schedule should be changed to seasonal released focused on the main story, as fillers have proven to be diluting the quality too much. The potential for the budget being invested in top level animation for the remaining canon material would give it the boost in rating and help my favourite series' sequel get the recognition that it deserves. With regard to the music composition, main battle animations, and source plot I am extremely happy with how everything is put together and is developing. To people who think that the story has completely deviated from the original idea of Naruto, I would say to try and keep an open mind, every new generation has to face a different challenge, usually completely foreign to the previous one. Happy watching Overall my rating is as follows: Main Story: 9/10 Fillers: 1/10
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is hands down one of the most overhated yet underrated anime out there, especially considering how it gets lumped in with the "overhyped sequel" criticism. Sure, I get that it’s not Naruto, but it's still got a ton of potential and fun moments that often get overshadowed by all the negativity. The plot focuses on Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto's son, who's trying to find his own way in the world of ninjas without being in his dad's shadow. There are definitely moments when it feels like the show is trying to recapture the magic of the original Naruto series, but it alsocarves out its own identity with some fresh ideas and a new generation of characters. Despite the criticism, Boruto is a show that has its heart in the right place. It takes the foundation laid by Naruto and builds on it, while still making room for new adventures, new characters, and fresh perspectives. It’s not always as fast-paced or as intense as its predecessor, but it’s a show that takes its time to develop the next generation of ninjas. People love to compare it to Naruto, but let’s be real, Boruto ain’t Naruto, and it was never meant to be. Naruto was about an underdog proving his worth, fighting against all odds to achieve his dream of becoming Hokage. Boruto, on the other hand, is about a kid born into privilege who has to learn what it truly means to carry responsibility and carve his own path. Different era, different protagonist, different struggles. Think of it like this: Naruto and Boruto exist in the same universe, but they are two entirely different journeys and conflicts. Expecting Boruto’s story to mirror Naruto’s is like expecting Sasuke’s path to be the same as Rock Lee’s. That’s just not how it works. If you go in expecting the same underdog-to-legend arc, or with the mindset trying to relive Naruto’s era, of course, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. But if you watch Boruto for what it actually is, a different take on the shinobi world, where battles are more complex, politics run deeper, and challenges aren’t just about brute strength but the evolution of an entire system, you’ll see it for the solid story that it is. You might just find yourself enjoying it more than you expected and getting deeper into the lore. Unlike Naruto, where war and large-scale battles were the central focus, Boruto takes a more layered approach to conflict. The villains aren’t just “evil for the sake of being evil.” Groups like Kara don’t just seek power, they challenge the shinobi system itself. The presence of the Ōtsutsuki Clan expands the lore in a way that makes the world feel even bigger. The celestial beings who influenced shinobi history in Naruto are now a direct threat, forcing characters to evolve beyond traditional ninja ways. Now, one of the biggest complaints? The filler. And yeah, I won’t lie, there’s a lot of it. But if you wanna skip the fluff straight to the good stuff, here’s the breakdown of the important arcs that actually matter to the main plot: 1. Academy Entrance Arc (Ep 1-16) 2. Sarada Uchiha Arc (Ep 17-24) 3. School Trip Arc (Ep 25-34) 4. Graduation Exam Arc (Ep 35-39) 5. Genin Mission Arc (Ep 40-42) 6. Byakuya Gang Arc (Ep 43-52) 7. Chunin Exam / Momoshiki Arc (Ep 53-66) 8. Mujina Bandits Arc (Ep 141-156) 9. Kara Actuation Arc (Ep 157-175) 10.Vessel / Ao Arc (Ep 178-187) 11.Kawaki Arc (Ep 188-205) 12.Otsutsuki Awakening Arc (Ep 206-220) 13.Sasuke Retsuden Arc (Ep 282-286) 14.Code’s Assault Arc (Ep 287-293) If you stick to these, you’re getting the core of Boruto’s story without the extra side missions. That being said, the fillers aren’t all bad. Some add depth to characters and if you’re into world-building, feel free to check them out. Some people also complain about how the older generation is being handled, saying they feel nerfed or lack the same feel. Sure, I get that POV (since I'm also into Naruto's lore). But let’s get something straight: they’re not nerfed. The enemies in Boruto have evolved. They don’t just throw hands anymore. They absorb chakra, adapt quickly, and move at a whole different pace. Also, Naruto and Sasuke didn’t get weaker, the game just changed. The power scaling is different because the threats are different. This is a new era with new kinds of enemies. There are also complaints about how the worldbuilding in Boruto feels confused, like the show doesn’t know whether it wants to be about shinobi or aliens. Bro, from the very first episode of Naruto, we had a giant nine-tailed fox sealed inside a kid. We had chakra beasts, reanimation jutsus, and moon-level threats. The Otsutsuki didn’t come out of nowhere. They were seeded into the lore for a long time. So if you’re saying “pick a lane,” I gotta ask, what were you even watching all these years? Maybe go rewatch the series and actually pay attention this time. And don’t even get me started on people saying Boruto’s worldbuilding feels too fast, like suddenly there’s alien, ninja tech, cyborgs, and all that. Like bro, the time gap between Naruto Shippuden and Boruto is around 15 years. That’s not a small window. And even during The Last: Naruto the Movie, Kumogakure already had a cannon that could shoot to the moon, and Konoha had equipment to track the moon’s movements and the status of their teams on it. Like seriously, still wanna call it “too fast”? Let’s be real, this is a world that already had chakra beasts, reanimation, teleportation, dimension travel, and literal god-level jutsus. Introducing advanced tech and scientific ninja tools isn’t “too fast,” it’s a natural evolution. Even in real life, we’ve seen traditional jobs get replaced by machines and advanced systems in the span of a decade. So, a shinobi world would evolve too, especially one where war is less constant and science is given space to grow. If anything, Boruto’s tech progression makes perfect sense. And to the folks who keep asking, “Where’s the old gen’s character development?” you’re watching the wrong story. This isn’t Naruto Shippuden 2.0. It’s Boruto. It’s about him and his generation. Of course, the spotlight is going to be on the new kids, that's literally the point. It’s okay to miss the OGs, but don’t be disappointed when they’re not always front and center. You can’t expect the story to constantly revolve around the old legends when it’s literally titled Boruto. They had their time, now it’s time to let the new generation shine and breathe. If you want to see Naruto, Sasuke, and the others grow, well, that happened already. This is Boruto’s story now. With all that, I think it's time for us to stop listening to the people who are stuck in the past and still in denial that Naruto’s era is over. These are people with closed-off mindsets who can't accept that the shinobi world has advanced. They’re so failed to even move on, let alone appreciate new narratives unless it’s got the old cast leading every scene. The world has moved forward, the threats are different, and the way things work has evolved, just like real life. In the end, it’s not about which series is better. Each presents a different perspective within the same universe. With an open mind, Boruto offers something engaging in its own right. Instead of jumping on the hate bandwagon, why not watch and decide for yourself? You might be surprised by what it has to offer. The animation? It has its ups and downs, but when it delivers, it delivers. Fights like Naruto & Sasuke vs. Momoshiki, Jigen vs. Naruto & Sasuke, and Kawaki vs. Boruto are some of the best-animated battles in anime history. The choreography, fluidity, and sheer intensity of these moments prove that when Boruto goes all out, it can stand alongside the best. And let’s be real, Naruto had animation inconsistencies too. The difference is, people look back on Naruto with nostalgia, while Boruto is new. What Boruto does better than a lot of anime is staying emotionally grounded. It doesn’t just rely on fights to carry the story. It actually takes time to develop its characters and their relationships. The dynamic between Naruto and Boruto is one of the most realistic father-son conflicts in anime. Naruto isn’t the absent father trope, he’s there, but his responsibilities as Hokage create a distance between him and Boruto. Boruto doesn’t resent him because he doesn’t love him. He just doesn’t understand the weight of Naruto’s duty. Their journey from resentment to mutual understanding is one of the most touching aspects of the series. And then there’s Kawaki. His arc brings a whole new emotional depth to Boruto. Watching him go from an abused, broken kid to someone who finds a family with Naruto and Boruto is one of the most powerful parts of the story. His struggles, trauma, and growth make Boruto feel more than just a shonen, it makes it human. And we can’t forget about the music. Boruto’s opening and ending themes are straight-up bangers. Tracks like "Baton Road," "Golden Time," and "Distant Fire" bring back that classic Naruto energy, while also setting the perfect vibe for Boruto’s journey. The soundtracks know when to hit hard and when to slow things down, making key moments even more impactful. Say what you want about the series, but its music? Absolutely unforgettable. So yeah, if someone’s out here clowning on my take and acting all confused, that’s on them. If you get it, you get it. If they don’t, well, that’s their problem. If anyone’s laughing at this or trying to dismiss it like it doesn’t make sense, they’re just not right in the head, and we’re not wasting energy on that. Don’t let the negativity stop you from checking out a masterpiece that is being built up. It’s got some peak moments, and with the new continuation coming soon, now’s the perfect time to jump in. TL;DR: Boruto is overhated but actually solid. Skip the hate, skip the fillers, focus on the key arcs, and enjoy it for what it is, not what people think or want it to be. If you’re into shonen and a lore geek, you’ll appreciate what Boruto brings to the table. But if you’re still confused and laughing at my take, then that just means you’re not all there, fam. No need to waste time on that energy. Cheers! Thanks for reading.
Look this is absolutely NOT a show for everyone, this is a action anime where most of the time absolute moments of the show are cutesy and/or comedic slice of life episodes and fillers with the side cast. This a series that despite playing in a wide and crazy world that it could've shown more of instead mostly plays within the same settings of random forest over and over again. This is a series where character development has to be held back or actively ignored so that it can somewhat follow the manga storyline. This is Boruto and I can't help but like it. It's a flawedseries without a doubt, again mostly it's the lack of character growth and often times constipated storylines that have to hold back on any large changes unless it involves anime exclusive side characters. However there is just something about it. No matter how many times I thought to myself that this show is legitimately just not very great, I kept watching. Was it the surprisingly good fighting animation? Was it the ancient japanese aesthetics mixed with modern western aesthetics? Is it the large amount of cute girls and boys?...Oh, yeah. Yeah that's the one. I like the characters, even if most of them do tend to be rather shallow. I like their designs and base personalities. I like how most of them aren't TOO stupid unless the plot demands for it and I like Himawari, like, a lot. Do I reccomend watching it just for that? Uhm, not really. At least not for almost 300 episodes. Watch at least a good 20 or so episodes and if at any point you get bored feel free to drop it as the story does not actually develop for like 70% of the series. The SOL is genuinely neat but there are maaaaany other solely SOL focused series.
To put it simply, whether or not you will enjoy this show will depend on what made you enjoy Naruto. As a stand-alone Shonen this anime is okay. It has fights that are decent, and fights that are good in terms of animation and composition, and its plot is consistent. There’s always a narrative development to look forward to as the show progresses. But as a successor to the 720 episode icon that was Naruto, it falls short. Boruto abandons much of the complex character development and backstories made the franchise unique. Most side characters are thrown at you without any strongbackground to hold on to. It’s hard to emphasize with any of their motives since they don’t exactly have any other than just being there to push the plot forward. Just the chunin exam arc of the original Naruto humanizes its side cast in a way Boruto never has. Episodes that just revolved around the Konoha 12 were just as entertaining as the episodes focusing on Naruto himself because we knew who these people were and why they mattered. Even though these problems have more to do with the manga and its relationship with the anime it still really drags down the story. The villains suffer from a similar problem, their motives are mediocre at best and non-existent at worse. The Otsutsuki’s existnce as these overpowered aliens who seek nothing but the destruction of the planet are a far cry from the previous antagonists, who always had a level of complexity that revolved around the relationship they had with their powers and past. It honestly feels like I’m watching a loop where some two dimensional supervillain constantly spams a limited set of abilites coupled with taijutsu until eventually the main character comes up with a basic ‘gotcha’ move to end the battle after it’s dragged on for long enough. These villains and their abilities progressively get more ridiculous and simplistic at the same time, eventually the power system of Chakra effectively ceases to exist. Which segways into my main point. Ninjutsu is destroyed, if you ever cared about wind style, lighting style, taijustu, genjustu, sealing, fatigue, strategy etc etc; just forget about it, it’s all gone. It was never going to be good considering the mess that the end of Shippuden made out of power scaling but it’s really just all over the place in Boruto. It tries to significantly scale down the original cast at multiple points with mediocre explanations behind doing so as an excuse for academy level students to defeat god level opponents. The majority of fights have much less to do with tactics and being a Shinobi, and more to do with who can throw more flashy stuff at the other Dragon Ball style. The show really lost it when a power that can change the entire world in an instant could be activated without chakra, by a character introduced mere episodes ago with zero prior backstory and a shallow motives. The list is long but you get the point. Putting it all together, it feels like I’m watching a show made for 10 year olds with occasional moments of violence. With an unlikeable MC who doesn’t face any real consequences, 2 dimensional characters, a sidelined original cast and world building that has been stripped down to flashy fights and low quality taijustu. This isn’t the story of a kid fighting to be acknowledged by his village, or a teenager who wants to end hatred and war, it’s a story about a nepo baby who gets to become more important than his father simply by being there. But at the end of the day, Maybe none of that matters to you. You just want to see you favorite characters and their kids fight in some cool battles while wearing headbands. And that’s okay, don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t enjoy. But for the rest of us, this anime is simply not an acceptable sequel. At best it’s just your average cash grab profiting off of the original.
Naruto and Naruto Shippuden has served its purpose greatly as long airing series. This was meant to be seasonal main arcs wise series to showcase something different. Find a website and filter out Filler episodes (taking approx 2/3 of the series). Main story is definitely easily 8/10 atleast if not 9/10. One problem I had is from Shippuden, studio has opted general bad animation unless crucial scenes or fights ( I think that's less in main episodes but dunno) Rated atm 7/10 (as average rating) because watched all after Naruto/Naruto Shippuden (since beginning as it started airing). Enjoyed generic episodes but not at the age to watch Naruto seriesagain... Also Boruto series wasn't really meant to be taken in that direction
This review is purely about the anime version. If you want an actual Boruto itself review, read my manga review. Or even better I would say just read the manga, its only 81 chapters. I'll start by saying, the anime is good. However, as people are aware. it is about 70% filler if you follow ONLY manga content. A lot of the anime cannon arcs are actually very enjoyable though. For example Mitsuki's backstory arc. Something not mentioned in the manga. I would advise skipping a lot of the filler content and a large portion of the anime canon as most of it is just additionallore to the characters in Boruto. The series doesn't truly start until the introduction of Kawaki which is like 180s in the anime. Half the anime is essentially just world building, so if you have watched Naruto (which most likely you would have first) then I would say just watch the manga cannon arcs. Plus arcs specific to any characters you do like. Like the mitsuki arc. And the mist village arc is also very enjoyable even though it is not cannon. The rest are average as I didn't really care for their stories or characters in some cases (Hoping Blue Vortex kills cho cho) After Kawaki is brought into it. There are a lot less fillers and anime cannon compared to the first half but there is still a lot. The labyrinth game arc was an example where it was actually pretty good still but is not at all relevant to the story. Plus they did an adaptation of Sasuke Retsuden just before final arc (code arc) which is pure canon however the western world clowned on it because sasuke was fighting a dinosaur. But that arc was also pretty decent. Shows off Sasuke a bit where hes not in it so much. I would advise reading the manga and then watching the anime if you liked it. Or if you cannot be bothered for any non essential information watch only manga cannon episodes. Which is like 60 episodes total to finish the whole show.
