Residing within Tokyo's district of Ueno are the Colors, three individuals who protect their city by performing good deeds and aiding their community. Or, at the very least, they pretend to be the city's defenders. In reality, the Colors are just three young girls: the shy Yui Akamatsu, the noisy Sacchan, and the video game-loving Kotoha, who spend their time playing make-believe and exploring the city. The Colors' activities are facilitated by the grandfatherly Daigorou "Pops" Kujiraoka, who uses his store's inventory of knick-knacks to entertain the rambunctious trio. Not everyone is a fan of the Colors though. The local policeman Saitou just wants to deal with his regular duties, but he often finds himself the target of the Colors' attention, having been made the villain in most of their fantasies. But despite his personal feelings, Saitou always finds the time to go along with the three girls' games. Even though the Colors do not actually defend Ueno, they definitely help brighten everyone's day. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

"Grownups are so busy. We can’t count on them." "Grownups don’t have energy. Kids have energy!" These lines are part of the cheerful opening theme of Mitsuboshi Colors and perfectly exemplify everything this anime is about. Forget about the troubles of your everyday life; it’s time to go outside, find your own adventure and have some fun! What I love about Mitsuboshi Colors is that it perfectly embraces everything that childhood is about. Normally in CGDCT anime you either get to see some sort of glorified moeness or some rather absurdly chilled out atmosphere, but this is different. Not that those two concepts aren’t good mind you, butthey feel very "anime" in the sense that they don’t really represent how young girls actually behave very often in real life. But Mitsuboshi Colors is the opposite. It is much more genuine and basically just showcases kids being kids. It’s blunt, silly, sometimes crude yet very relatable and charming because odds are you can look back on how you used to be yourself as a child and see yourself doing similar kinds of stupid things as the three girls in this anime are doing. In short, Mitsuboshi Colors follows the energetic boke Sacchan who keeps wanting to go on adventures throughout the town, the smug and sadistic game-addict Kotoha, as well as the more reserverd "leader" and tsukkomi Yui. The trio have their own hideout in the form of a cabin in the forest where they hang out and try to come up with new ideas of fun things to do, which usually end up with them going on quests throughout the urban areas, either by their own volition or by pestering some of the shop owners or a local policeman they know into making them give them some fun challenge to complete (or in the case of the latter, they’re often just playing pranks on him too). The series revolves around their silly little adventures and the rather blunt interactions between the characters. It’s cute, but in a realistic sort of way rather than the moe overdose style that CGDCT anime usually tends to do. It’s childish, but oh so enjoyable. If you want a reference point then the closest series I can think of to this would be something like the Yotsubato manga, which is generally praised for more or less the exact same reasons, or arguably even Mitsudomoe to a certain extent. Either way it’s a breath of fresh air amongst the plethora of moe shows that come out every season nowadays, and in my opinion most definitely an anime worth checking out if you’re into slice of life and/or moe series in general. It certainly stands out from the crowd quite a bit.
Do you remember the time when you were a kid? Running around having fun, playing a game with your friends. Having a secret base to hang around after school. No? Well whatever, you might want to see it anyways. Mitsuboshi Colors is an anime about three young girls (in Elementary School) who plays together all the time at the park. They are the "Colors" which they claim to protect the peace of the city. Every episode is filled with them doing something, be it trying to solve problems given to them by people around them (Like Sacchan's Mother) or just having fun playing hide and seek. Theart is bright, clean, and colorful, supported by the upbeat and light-hearted soundtrack to bring about the fun and enthusiastic mood of the girls and overall feelings of the show. They also did a great job managing when to play the soundtrack to help with joke's punchlines and such. For the characters, we have Yui (the Leader of Colors), Sacchan, and Kotoha. Yui is the more normal one. She feels innocent and a bit shy. She is usually not the one to come up with the wacky ideas. Sacchan is the most energetic and cheerful one, always talking a lot and comes up with puns from time to time. Kotoha seems to be the quieter and smarter one, often playing on her DS and usually the one being able to solve the puzzles. What makes these three feels so wonderful to watch is how they are similar to actual children. They don't hold back on what they do or say. Always energetic and finding fun stuffs to do, sometimes bothering the adults around them, doing things you're not supposed to do like going inside a restricted area just because they are curious. Everytime they talk, it sounds just like excitement filled children having fun, making me miss how i felt when i was a kid. The other characters who are adults usually try their best to keep up with the Colors' energy, usually just ending up confused. Some help them have fun by creating a case to solve. Except one though, the security guard Saitou which is usually bothered by the kids. The Colors do things like trying to "defeat" him because the kids make him the antagonist who is the source of all problems in the city. This is a very fun and enjoyable anime to watch. Every episode feels fresh, bringing up your mood with the childish jokes or fun antics the Colors do. I often find myself having to pause watching it to give myself some time to laugh. It also feels different every episode so it doesn't feel repetitive and boring. The anime also doesn't bring up any fanservice, which makes it nice and not awkward to watch. It's a kind where you can just watch kids having fun and being true to their nature which you might somewhat have lost.
It's rare to find an anime that captivates you just from the voice acting. You could find an anime captivating because of the story, the art, the characters but for the first time since the original Kino no tabi, I was captivated from how great and refreshing the voice acting was in this anime which is why I decided to write about it and the anime as a whole. One of the best things about colors is how well-written the characters are, you could feel the innocence of the children and the maturity of the adults while still keeping the anime atmosphere lively and fun, thisis probably one of the most enjoyable anime I have ever seen in a long time because of how great the characters were and how they interact with each other, the characters felt more genuine most of the other anime I have watched and you could enjoy how they change from one mode to the other, how they act and react to stuff with it all moving naturally and fluidly, it's very good to watch. One of the many other things I liked about this anime is the diversity, For example the comedy is so good and it's not repetitive at all starting from dark humor and going through almost every other type like the dead silence awkward humor and parts when the characters themselves change the way act because they are sad or angry. For example in episode 7 where Yui (the calm and caring girl) gets angry after Kotoha (the cool type character) pokes at how she has no friends then Yui took Kotoha's game and made fun of how bad the she is at video games by beating the game and talking down to her while defeating the bosses. Those types of cute interactions and comedy moments that you know you could experience in your real life while knowing it would make a great memory and the fact that even though you could put each character in an overall type (cool, cute, calm) it would be doing them extreme injustice to see them as only that because of how deep and well-written they are and despite how that type describes them you could still see them acting their age which makes this an extremely enjoyable and great anime. This anime could also pass as a Mystery detective-like anime because in most of the episodes they try to solve a case of some kind, whether it be finding something, solving a disease or finding a culprit that did something simple like taking a small cat statue. Now the best thing in this anime (IMO) is how great the voice actors were, their voices being new and refreshing was one of the reasons the voice acting was great but how they performed was outstanding, I said at the start that this is the 2nd time that I'm completely drawn and enjoying an anime because of how Phenomenal the voice acting was and I'm not overreacting in the slightest. This is hands down one of the top 5 voice acting performances I have seen in an anime, the whole cast was amazing while my favorite of the bunch are Sacchan's and Yui's voice actors, they are both great and I loved listening to them talk but I think I might like Yui's voice better tbh. Also The art is great with the characters' designs being so pretty/well-drawn and the soundtracks fit the atmosphere perfectly. There is nothing that I disliked about the anime other than it being 12 episodes and not 1000, same thing with the length as I'd have loved to watch this for a thousand episodes with each episode being over an hour long. The most enjoyable anime this season and probably my favorite above Both Sora Yori,Takagi-San,Saiki and Gakuen Babysitters. Overall rating: 10/10. Would recommend it to random strangers I see on the streets and not just my friends.
Have you ever wondered how your childhood would be like if you were like hyper-active children, going around and creating nonsense antics like doing fake cases of evil and just annoying that figure of evil (whom you perceive IS) and making the world around you a better place through endless adventures? Then this show is for you: another Winter 2018 SoL series, and one of the better ones too that I enjoy tremendously and had good laughs out of it. Mitsuboshi Colors, based off the manga series of the same name, tells the story (WHAT story? It's a SoL!) of 3 "cute girls doing cute things":The red-haired Leader, Yui, whose antics don't follow up to the other Colors members and gets tricked by the others a lot with her cuteness; The yellow-haired Sat-chan, who regards everything as poop, and OMG does she have a wicked sense of sarcasm against the "enemy" Saito, a policeman who's really protecting the city but gets hampered by the Colors' attacks and ends up being savaged by them most of the time. The blue-haired Kotoha, who always has her 3DS with her most of the time: a proclaimed video gamer whose hands don't easily attach from her ALL the time, and seriously hates losing to the point she ravages even to the Colors. Even the other people coming into contact with the Colors (Saito the eternal enemy, Nonoka the savage learner, Daigorou the uncle who owns a rag-tag shop of stuff that the Colors always use) are really enjoyable to watch just from the interaction of the Colors alone, and the thought that the Colors just being naive, savage and their funny sense of rude humor just chuckles the mind, heart and soul. If you have watched Non Non Biyori (by the same studio: Silver Link), expect more of the same art style here, while it's nothing special, it's clear that Silver Link didn't want the artwork as an appealing point of the series, and focuses mainly on the characters to help sell the show. To be honest, I was worried that the sub-par artwork will turn me off from the show, aside from the humorous character development, but it turns out that I was really worried for nothing, as the enjoyment factor outweighs even the biggest of flaws of the show. The sound here might be nothing special, but in all honesty, I really enjoyed what the OST has to offer, ever more so that our main Colors helmed the OP and ED, and have become instant favorites of mine this Winter season. Overall, a seriously underrated show that's not very fanciful, yet doesn't have much to sacrifice for, and a pleasant show to relieve all the days of childhood nostalgia. A recommended watch (as much for a series about kids) and be glad that your best days may be over but through the power of Mitsuboshi Colors, you can relieve them in the utmost funny gag-tone way possible.
Story: 7/10 Three girls created an organisation called "Colors" to fight crime and protect the peace of their town. It's a kid's dream and everyone at one point has wanted to become a hero. Every day, you get to experience the daily life of three girls. It's nostalgic and you get to reminisce your childhood. Art: 9/10 There's good detail to the background, you can see they put a lot of effort in areas where some people wouldn't even focus on. Sound: 6/10 When the soundtrack comes on at certain scenes, it makes you feel really hyped up and excited. Character: 8/10 The characters are so fun,the mischievous kids, Saito, the dad, etc. Every character is so unique and fun to watch. Enjoyment/Overall: 7/10 It does get a bit boring and less interesting every episode. It's cute and fun to watch though, don't get me wrong, but it isn't an anime that I would watch again.
Before reviewing, I need to thank all the staff involved in creating Mitsuboshi colors, which is one of the most wholesome, cute and joyful anime ever created. This anime allows us all to experience the heart of children, or fun and privileged of being a child again. It is not a perfect anime, but talking about anime that excels at what they are doing, this anime is a masterpiece. Story: 10/10 The story is about our protagonists, who are three naughty elementary school girls with different personality, formed a team called colors to "protect the peace of the street area" (actually they are just playing around). All the episodes are about events related to the theme of childhood fun, like going to zoo and museum or playing hide-and-seek, which is rarely depicted in anime, and they done it perfectly. Art: 8/10 The choice of art, like the hair colours of the kids, are vivid and distinct, which fit the atmosphere of the show. They borrow the art style of Ichigo Marshimaro for the three little girls, which is one of the most cute, but not sexual way, to draw lolis. This is a brilliant and safe choice, as it tremendously helps people to actually concentrate on the content of the show. This anime still has the traditional "Silver Link problem", which is to have a small budget, which led to the heavy use of simplified art work and still frames and photos. However, they handle this limitation in the least possibly harmful way, it rarely distract the viewers from the experience (the bgm helps a lot). In this respect, other studios should learn take notes from Silver Link in how to make good anime with small budget. Moreover, even with the limited budget, they still try their best to be detail with their art. It is done with the attires, which a lot of people could overlook. Every mother would admit that one of the biggest fun of having children is to dress them. Watching our cute lolis in over 100 different attire combined throughout the series is definitely an additional fun to the series. These are the little things that display the heart of the staff without burning money. Sound: 9/10 BGM, OP and EDs are all outstanding and fitting. I took away one mark because the BGM for the first episode is too loud. It would definitely be fixed on BD release. Voice acting is on point for all of the characters. Character: 10/10 The character is usually the best part of a Slice of Life anime, Mitsuboshi Colors is no exception. The personality and behaviour of Yui, Sacchan and Kotoha are all extremely well-crafted. The author must have spent a lot of time observing kids when creating them. Explaining their characters would involve spoilers, but I would say every one of them has her own "kid's philosophy" to support the way they act, and they are all pure and simple, but not one-dimensional. The rest of the cast are made up of nice people that would play with the kids, which provide a heartwarming atmosphere for the show. The chemistry between them and the policeman Saito is one of the funniest thing of the anime too. Enjoyment: 10/10 Instead of "acting cute" like most moe anime, this anime aim at acting natural, which resembles the cute side of children in real life. This type of cuteness is much more precious in anime, the closest thing is probably Renge from Non Non Biyori, and Ichigo Mashimaro. Mitsuboshi Colours have better comedy (though in sacrifice for the comfortableness) when comparing with the two anime I've mentioned, as it is a story about three naughty kids, not just one Renge or Miu. There are countless hilarious scenes throughout the story, especially in scene that display the way of thinking by children. All in all, I would rate Mitsuboshi colours a 10 out of 10, and hopefully everyone can experience childhood fun once again through this amazing anime.

"A fun anime lacking in budget" Pros: 1. Fun characters 2. Relaxing to watch Cons: 1. Lacks animation budget 2. Cliche characters, may not be likable to some people<LONG REVIEW> Tbh, Mitsuboshi Colors is my most anticipated series of Winter 2018. I love this kind of series that showcases the more realistic sides of kids, such as Ichigo Marshmallow and Non non biyori. Most modern anime nowadays tend to moe-fied them too much, not that I dislike it though.I enjoy watching Mitsuboshi Colors, but it still did disappoint me in some aspect. Firstly, Mitsuboshi Colors lacks the animation budget. I can forgive that if this is animated by some new studios out there, but Silver Link isn't that kind of studio that lacks budget or human resources. I mean, they did do a good job at animating Non non biyori, but in Mitsuboshi Color's case, the lack of animation budget is just saddening. Some scenes weren't even properly animated. They were just replaced with still frames. The framerate, compared to Slow Start next door, isn't even that high. Characters often have only simplistic movements. Compared to Slow Start, the characters in this anime isn't as much engaging. Speaking about the characters, each character is likable, at least for me. If you are those who hate kids, then I highly recommend you to skip this. Watching this won't change your taste because as I already said, this anime showcases the real sides of kids, which is innocent, cute, annoying and naughty. Also, the characters aren't that deep. What I am getting at is that the characters in this series doesn't go through any drama and development. We can't learn much about the characters. So, if you are one that want characters to develop or to be double layered, then kindly remove this from your PTW list. The VA's did a fantastic job at voicing the characters. It really adds in more to the characteristics of each character. Overall, I do enjoy watching Mitsuboshi Colors. Will I recommend it? Maybe. If you like series like Non non biyori and Ichigo Marshmallow, then do check this anime out. If you don't like Slice of Live anime in general, then skip this.
Mitsuboshi Colors is a little heartwarming anime that follows the daily antics of the self-styled "Colors", a group of elementary school-girls who defend the city of Ueno of all and one evil who may rear its ugly head from across the horizon (well, not really, if you think about it, but that would be a topic for another time). The first thing it came to my mind once I got to watch this series is just how similar it seemed to the many children's cartoons of the 90s and 2000s I grew up with during the first decade or so of the New Millennium (think "Arthur"and such, for example). Both follow a cast of first or second level-school children in their daily antics and little "adventures" in a somewhat natural setting, as a considerable amount of the series takes place in a park, actually. This anime does not contend with a high amount of characters, it is rather limited in the amount of information it decides to throw at the spectator's face. Contrary to this being a negative, it makes the story easy to follow and quick to swallow, as the series compensates for the lack of characters with personality. Every single one of this show's characters has an unique gimmick going on with them: from the cheery and energetic (albeit a bit vulgar sometimes) Sat-Chan to the fatherly and rather eccentric in more than one single way "Oyaji". It never gets boring, let me guarantee you that. The characters and backrounds are polished and well designed, as the overall BGM is. The show's creators really took their time to make this world feel as alive and immersive as possible, as most of the backround images are actually photos of real places with an anime style drawn upon them. Making them delightful to look at in most ocations. My only gripe with the overall design of this anime would be with the intro, which seems kinda boring and uninspired, in my opinion. The intro is the first (or one of the first) things a viewer sees once he clicks on an episode, and helps to set the mood and to some extent, the identity and feel of the show going forward. So the cold and generic melody I encountered once starting watching the series took me off of what otherwise is the warm and charming world of three little kids utilizing their imagination to live their lives to the fullest extend possible. My final toughs on this anime: if you enjoyed (or still enjoy) those aforementioned children's cartoons from the second paragraph you would probably enjoy Mitsuboshi Colors. If you enjoy little heartwarming comedies with an easy to follow story and memorable cast then I would also give it a shot, because the enjoyment you will get out of this show will leave you thinking about it for times to come.
Mitsuboshi Colors is about three girls who formed a group called Colors to protect the peace of the town they live in - or so they believe, because they mostly just play the detective, solving cases given to them by other people. The kids interact with a lot of people in the city, and everyone seems to know them, so they help them in their play, with one exception: the true enemy of the Colors, Saitou, a police officer who's always picked on by the girls. The show is really funny and, as expected, really cute; the girls are very expressive and lively. The first halfof the show can be a bit tiresome because it repeats some jokes, but the second half is perfect, the girls look even more lively and playful, and the jokes get better. The animation is actually pretty good for a show like this, with some beautiful moments.
This is one of those animes that heals your heart and soul after watching other genre animes. Each episode had a heartwarming feeling and was truly satisfying. I loved how each character had a different color as well as a different personality. 3 energetic kids just enjoying their childhood. The OP was also catchy. Huge round of applause to the VA's as they perfectly fitted the characters. It's sad to see this anime to end but I do hope for a season 2 for this anime as it continues to pick up from the manga. ( according to MAL manga is still ongoing ) *If anyonehas recommendations for animes that are like Mitsuboshi Colors please lmk*
This is such an adorable anime. I'll let you know from the start this anime is about 3 lolis playing around their town every episode. That's basically the whole idea of it. So if you hate kids or don't like lolis then you're definitely not going to enjoy this at all. Story There isn't much of a story. Colors are the protectors of this panda-themed town. As a panda fan myself, Colors are indeed doing a great job. So we have Yui, Kotoha, and Sat-chan. The three of them are the colors who solve cases in order to save the town. It's a slice of lifestyle with tons of comedy and poop-jokes. Art Not anything special, honestly. It looks good, of course, but not overly detailed or impressive. I personally prefer it this way because it makes it somehow more suitable for a child-themed anime. Don't get me wrong, it IS nicely-drawn and everything, but if it were an epic drawing style or something really impressive, I'd have started taking this show seriously when it's supposed to be for entertainment purposes. In other words, it's cute. Character Development Almost null. I'd have appreciated it if there were some since we're seeing the childhood of the three lolis, so some development to their personalities would have added another perspective to the show. Even the people of the town don't really face any changes in them, but those aren't as important anyway. This anime primarily focuses on a comic perspective and that's all what it gives. Entertainment Really amazing. I found myself grinning almost every single episode that my face sometimes felt numb. This really is where this show shines from Sat-chan's poop jokes to Yui's hilarious expressions. If you're watching something somehow dark-themed or just finished watching one and are looking for a break to heal your soul a little then this one is a light anime that will provide you with just what you need.
I love watching a show like Mitsubishi Colors to put my mind at ease. In the daily struggle of life, I get too occupied, and all the other anime and series tend to occupy the remaining part of my brain, and I'm constantly hooked. Mitsubishi Colors is a fun and relaxing watch, something I can just put on with some pancakes or on days when I don't feel like watching anything because I'm too tired. The characters are charismatic and cheerful, with a lot of energy and great rhythm between them. Overall, it's a short anime that comes to a perfect end. 👌
Reading the synopsis and looking at the poster for Mitsuboshi Colors, I thought it was going to be an uninteresting CGDCT anime that I would check out the first episode for and then never watch it again afterwards. I ended up getting something completely different from my expectations in that I found the comedy to be very good, often hilarious at time and that the cast of characters were very entertaining. Flash forward all the way to the last episode and I'm a bit sad that this fantastic show has come to an end. Now if I were to summarize some of my thoughts on MitsuboshiColors, firstly, the story in the show is basically non-existent and serve merely as a vehicle for the other aspects of the anime. You walk in with expectations of seeing the adorable escapades of the little girls but as you get to know the main characters, Yui, Sacchan and Kotoha, you learn that there is a little dark but humorous mischief underneath all that cuteness. I thought that the art and animation was simple but good and effective. In particular the background for many of the scenes in the show caught my eye. The OST is a level below the art but at the very least if fits the style of the show and gets the job done. The best part of Mitsuboshi Colors is definitely it's characters. There is the always jolly Sacchan who has the weirdest obsession with Poop. The intelligent but sometimes sinister Kotoha who can always be found playing video games. There is also Yui who surprisingly plays the role of leader to the bunch and at first seems like the only normal one in the group but even her character comes into her own as the series progresses. The side cast of characters are just as entertaining as the main bunch and it's fun to see their interactions on an episode to episode basis as it's almost like they are all in on The Colors' shenanigans. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Mitsuboshi Colors and I wouldn't mind revisiting this someday and I hope for a second season in the future. I highly recommend it.
What should we do? What should we do? So that we can protect everyone? Hang on a sec! We'll have a discussion. Adults are so busy. We can't rely on them. That's right, let's do something about this town. With Colors Power!- Mitsuboshi Colors That’s the theme of the series! The life of an adult that we forgot when we were kids... Mitsuboshi Colors is the remainder of that time, daily life, with no real goal whatsoever but always busy with something, playing around, searching around, and troubling the adults as their troublemaking protector. Mitsuboshi Colors holdsa soft place in my heart and is a really special anime for me. It’s an episodic show, and to be honest, this thing is perfect how it is. The animation, character design, and their foolishness were their intelligence. Everything was so spot-on. The city and the people of the city were so well visualized. Every day, Colors learns about new things and gets one step closer to protecting their city. Throughout their assigned mission, they learn and teach us something that we have lost. Like in Halloween, where they made the whole city attracted to come together to make their mission successful. Lots of things happened and are still happening because they will be continued because colors still exist, and that tree is where they put their memories. And after 10 years, those memories will be more vivid than ever, just like our childhood.
Vast majority of anime has children as main characters. There are also a lot of titles that try to make them cute. But kids that actually behave like real kids are a rare sight, which makes Mitsuboshi Colors pretty unique. Even as a person with no patience to kids I couldn’t resist charm of those girls. To my surprise even moments with more bratty and irresponsible behaviour didn’t bother me. Whether it’s because of realism that reminded me of my own childhood, relaxing music or just cute smiling girls, this anime made me appreciate kids being kids, with all the noise and naivety coming with it. MitsuboshiColors doesn’t go too far with “moefying” characters. Their designs are cute, but actual sugar overdose comes from their actions, which also aren’t forcefully cute and feel very natural. I’ll even go as far as to say that characters are realistic. When praising characters, I should mention that adults are also very nice (both as a personality and as in “well written”) and their interactions with kids melt your heart. They are rather one-dimensional, but considering it’s very light-hearted anime I wouldn’t consider it an important flaw. While heartwarming part is top-notch, comedy aspect of Mitsuboshi Colors was a bit lacking. Some jokes hit the mark and made me genuinely laugh, but some other not only fell flat, but were also overused. One thing you will quickly notice when watching this anime are backgrounds. They are simply awesome and add a lot to immersion. Background art is very detailed and there is also a good variety, despite action taking place mostly around the same locations. Music is quite good too, although it wasn’t used as often as I think it should. One thing Mitsuboshi Colors failed for me, is keeping my attention. Despite absolutely loving it while watching an episode, I didn’t really have motivation to get back to it if I took a break. Naturally, episodic nature of show and lack of any drama are known to cause such things, but I haven’t experienced it with other similar titles. One one hand it’s not anime one should marathon. On the other it’s hard to get back to it once you stop. I’d sure recommend Mitsuboshi Colors to any fan of CGDCT anime. Iyashikei fans might have some problems with “loud” nature of girls, but I believe this audience should be satisfied too. Other than that, I believe anybody who enjoys slower and heartwarming anime should like this one.
This one is tricky. Mitsuboshi Colors is a great series - if you watch it with the right mindset. On the surface it may look like other slice of life - comedy animes as Non Non Biyori or Ichigo Mashimaro (specially with the resemblance between Saki from Colors and Miu from Ichigo): three young girls fooling around, trying to have fun while their enjoy their ordinary everyday lives. The difference here is that the more healing / slice of life aspect of the series, in the sense that you connect with the characters, get to like them, start caring for them and just feel happy havingthem around, just doesn't work here. Why? Well, let's talk about Color's characters for a minute. You have Kotoha, who is basically a sociopath addicted to videogames that seems to enjoy violence and the idea to make others suffer, and who doesn't care about anything as long as she is amused. She is the most mature and intelligent of the bunch, which makes her actions even more criticizable. Then you have Saki, a chaotic force of nature whose only goal is having fun. She has a hyperactive and explosive personality and no good ideas; even if she doesn’t come up as a bad person, she is probably the most annoying of the three. Lastly, there’s Yui, a shy and simple girl who usually gets worried about the other two’s absurd plans. But if you think that then she is a good girl, don’t be fooled: if Saki comes and, out of boredom, says: “Hey, let’s go fight Saitou!” (the local security guard), she will smile and say: “Ok!”. Well, they live in their own world and just do not care, as, at the end of the day, they are just children - but they are as inconsiderate and annoying as children can be. You wouldn’t want these girls around. They are not your friends. So, it is very difficult to actually like these characters at a human level; does it mean that there’s nothing to like about them? Not at all, as they are pretty hilarious. That’s the important point here: you have to understand this as purely a comedy. And, as long as it is funny, anything goes. As a comedy, I like a lot of things from Colors: all that the characters have wrong at a personal level, they have right at being funny – specially Saki, whose crazy and inappropriate occurrences give some of the series’ best moments (thanks also to an amazing voice acting work). The chemistry between the girls is really good, and also between some of the secondary characters (like the high school girl Nonoka) – I have to say that I do not enjoy how they systematically abuse Saitou, but some hilarious moments are also to be found there. I really like how the three girls think and act as actual children, they are not sexualized, and have the motivations and the way of seeing the world as children have – it makes us think of simpler and happier times, and it feels pretty refreshing. I also like how all the action is centered around a specific real life location (Ueno, in Tokyo), and how it is depicted. Overall, I ended up enjoying this series a lot. The first couple of episodes are not the best ones, so I would suggest to keep watching until a bit later. I do not think this is for everyone, as if you do not find the comedy aspect funny, there is not a lot else worth it IMO - but if you do, you are in for a treat.
After watching the whole series it left a lasting impression on me that I have experienced something special, nostalgic in a way, that made me relive some of my childhood memories once again. I followed the adventures of the hyper energetic Sat-chan, the well-behaved leader Yui and the sadistic console-gamer Kotoha, on all 12 episodes. Solving random cases to save their town or Pops(store manager) or just randomly fighting Saito (policeman). All these events are just heartwarming and not so over the top moe. One of my favorite part of this anime is the opening song that sets the mood of the show. There is nobig plot on this anime but it excite the kid inside of every audience. Overall this is a wholesome show that everyone can enjoy. They really had a great time. And so did I.
This is an entry in the "cute girls doing cute things" category, but deviates from that category in several ways that make it special. First, they're really little girls, not yet in school I think. Second, they have a really neat fantasy that the share: They're protectors of the town, specifically of Ueno Park and environs. Put these two factors together and you get the rare "kids say the darnedist things" result. It's a great result. At first I though this would just be a CGDCT standard, but pretty soon instead of just lying back and watching the cuteness, after a couple of episodes I wasgrinning like a fool. The girls are lovable and the most fun thing about them is, they are serious about their duty as protectors of the town, and they have no clue how funny that often makes them talk and behave. Takes your mind right off your troubles!
