Following the events of "Scorched Halloween," the world is introduced to a terrifyingly powerful Strategic class magician. In an effort to uncover the identity of this person, the United States of the North American Continent (USNA) dispatches the most powerful asset in its arsenal to Japan on a covert mission—the elite magician unit "Stars" and its commander, Angie Sirius. At First High School, Tatsuya Shiba and his friends are having a farewell party for Shizuku Kitayama, who is leaving to study abroad in the USNA as part of an exchange program. In her place, the group welcomes the beautiful Angelina "Lina" Kudou Shields. Around the same time, Tatsuya is informed about the USNA's plan to uncover his true identity. Elsewhere in Tokyo, numerous reports arise of seemingly random bodies found drained of blood. Dubbed as the works of a vampire, it does not take long for Tatsuya to connect the dots and realize that it is almost impossible for the timing of these events to be mere coincidence. There is an uncanny misconception floating around in regards to "overpowered characters" and that according to such existence the whole show is deemed bad from the get-go. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei also fell into this rabbit hole and apparently even our savior Tatsuya can't do much to stop all the lies from spreading. I didn't mean to, but you leave me no choice - I'm putting an end to this pandemonium. -------------------------------- After 5 years of agony waiting for a sequel with only a side-story movie put in between, the second season of Mahouka came in all of its glory featuring one of the fan-favorite protagonists inall of anime and a much-loved yet inexplicably controversial show in itself. Back in 2014 when it first aired, some people with dicks in their mouths raised their hand and asked one question only: Who in Alabama made this anime - to which everyone within a 5-mile radius simultaneously answered - it is much deeper than you think and they weren't wrong at all since to understand this anime and why it matters in their life, you need a 5-year degree of stay on Facebook and 2 in their most repugnant groups so that your IQ will increase and come into the realization this anime is not simply a self-insert shtick with incest added to flavor it up. It's about Tatsuya and his teachings that we must appreciate. The story of a simple fellow who never wanted and never thought of becoming who he is now but because of this great power he has no choice but to use it for the greater good even if it means the worst outcome for lot of. A not easy task to fulfill but one that must go until the very bottom. With him there's his sister, the core of the nonsense controversial people think it has. She's there to help her brother but whenever she's got the chance she tries to suck his dick but Tatsuya has better plans for her. He's playing the long game here and acting that he doesn't care about her in a romantic way and that he's just tempting her where in reality he's waiting for the moment Miyuki's defense is at a bare minimum so he can strike a big maneuver on her. With the advantage of 69 no imouto would be able to resist his true behavior and may God have mercy on Miyuki's pussy on that faithful night because he's gonna crush it. -------------------------------- I saw Mahouka back in 2017 and liked it a lot, so much that it became a personal favorite of mine. At the time I had (still have) a certain love for the overpowered characters and the whole concept of Mahouka, as well as the characters and their quirky personalities, made my heart Doki-Doki (although it wasn't the first time). Tatsuya's interaction with her sister was indeed a blast - her blushing for every word her onii-sama said made me undertake a non-healthy path I never thought I'd take - to self-insert to guys like him and be successful as I've always wanted - surrounded by a bunch of girls, making them do naughty things to me or to each other, and much more I don't think you want to know. Unlike back then, I rarely do it anymore, but I still appreciate it enough to tell the tale and what a riveting tale it was. Despite my early years of watching anime and the fact at the time I could've liked perhaps everything, Raihousha-hen it's almost as good as its predecessor. It would have been better if we had gotten a 2-cour season instead. Not only we would have fleshed out some prominent characters more but because the story itself needed more time to get it done in a more impactful way, albeit it was great anyway. Despite its predictable premise, Mahouka never goes downhill as each character is written in a nuance that enhances the story the right way but still makes the protagonist shine without making it seem forced. One of the ways they go about is the dialogue and is DONE RIGHT. Unlike LoGH who is there to pad for some time, here it has an identity within its story and not only serves as a tool to give the little exposition we need to understand the next puzzle pieces but also give some growth to them as well foreshadows what will happen to them later. While it's obvious Tatsuya has the most important role, others are no less either because without them even Tatsuya wouldn't have much against certain situations and it's a great way to show how much he growth but also that he's not simply an "overpowered character" with no purpose at all. He has his friends, his adorable sister and a bunch of other guys and honestly, that's just for the better. Mahouka is not a bad show AND I'M ANGRY YOU DISLIKE SOMETHING I LIKE. GAH.
If there’s any one anime, any one popular anime in particular, I could say is feasibly written by an AI scrolling the algorithm, it would be The Irregular at Magic High School. Why so? Because the show does not have a spec of human emotion in it. Ignorance is the word of the day here folks. It was fairly apparent in the first season of Mahouka, and somehow even moreso here. Every aspect in this season, from the narrative, to the soundtrack, to the characterization, to the tension, to the worldbuilding is divorced from what’s commonly viewed as respectable. It’s not quite as insultingly awful as Season1, but it does repeat a lot of similar failures, and even amplifies other parts. It saddens me that out of every show in the mostly dead genre of magic high school power fantasies (except perhaps the Index franchise), THIS ONE was the breakout hit that came to spread holiday depression by amplifying all its worst traits. To say this season has a “plot” would be massively overselling it. Things “happen”, but little lasts to any degree. An American secret agent girl named Angelina Shields drops in to stop “vampires” from draining magic from faceless NPCs in a world we’re given no reason to care about. She uses a disguise, and the show tries to build intrigue of what’ll happen to her and her rivalry with Tatsuya and Miyuki. Which might’ve been something………….unless of course you watched the film, which came out three years before this season, immediately giving away what happens to her. Oops. Oh, and then the last two episodes try very badly to make some point about discrimination with the worst racism allegory since RWBY’s White Fang. Many fundamental problems with the core premises of Mahouka return this season (except the magic system issues that’s just ignored), and they tend to affect the new elements when it wants to branch out a bit. The new element they want to highlight the most is Angelina. A top ranked American superspy with a secret identity, the show actually tries to give her feelings, and a goal she wants to accomplish, something seemingly foreign to Mahouka. But what’s the show’s reaction? Treat her like an absolute joke. Most of the “comedy” revolves around her constant incompetence in her job, mostly the lazy chibi comedy that feels bafflingly out of place for how solemnly serious it wants to be. The show can’t go one episode without having Tatsuya, the All-Knowing Übermensch, snip out that she’s sus, yet the camera still focuses on her devious smirk. By Episode 4, she duels Miyuki, and is on the verge of handily losing, Miyuki seemingly portrayed like a villain. Then, for the rest of the arc, Tatsuya and Miyuki effectively do her job for her, rather than giving her the chance to actually grow or change with any renewed confidence. A show with thought or effort put into it might’ve made her seem more like a competent rival, or at least have compelling payoff for running into Tatsuya and Miyuki, but no! Can’t let anyone get anything out of Tatsuya and Miyuki, the incesty power couple of modern anime. No one wins here. Fans of her character don’t get to see her actually prove her competence or get meaningful development, and fans of Tatsuya and Miyuki don’t have some sort of rival that can in any way enhance their growth. And it makes America look stupid for having someone like her headline their team. Not that Tatsuya and Miyuki look any better. Oh, the show tries to FOOL you into thinking there’s character development, but it’s a lie that means nothing. Miyuki is still one of anime’s most poorly written characters, with no personality besides loving her brother and being jealous of anyone else who gets near him. This could work if she was an antagonistic figure that stretched her love for her brother through drastic actions, but no, deuteragonist keeping the status quo. The show will claim there’s an arc of her losing attachment to her brother by having her monologue about it, which bears no fruit, and is partially demonstrated by the camera ogling her. After all, the chart says that fanservice sells, why not show more of the female and none of the character?! Mahouka: We're a super serious science conspiracy anime about secret agents, political drama and magic parasites! Also Mahouka: Let's have two separate scenes of women undressing for the camera, once for goofy comedy and once for drama with no foundation or worth that's really just fanservice anyway. Also let's give him a tagalong girl no personality whatsoever besides being another tsundere for Tatsuya with inexplicably magic hair beads. Aniplex: Perfect! Get it into production immediately! The ignorance never ends. Tatsuya smiles more, but he’s only slightly more tolerable than the previous season. In Episode 5, there’s a plot involving a rogue parasite that the show tries to act like has tension, but the cast has the answer to every hitch there could be. Tatsuya admits he could've solved the problem for good, but didn't, thus prolonging the runtime. Genius. Another episode tries to act like he missed some detail about Angelina, but he gets the info he wants almost instantaneously just by phoning a few people. It’s lip service to the idea of conflict. The blatant author worship continues; a parasite powering a robot by someone’s love for him clung to him like they’re trapped in a spiderweb. Nearly everyone wants to get a Valentines gift specifically for him. Miyuki and Tatsuya spend the series feeding off everything else; ironically for a plot about stopping possessive parasites, that’s exactly what the leads are, the algorithm too ignorant to admit it. Less than two minutes after Tatsuya loses his arm, he instantly gets it back. We can’t have TWO MINUTES of tension in this show. And don’t worry about the vampire plot; it’s solved instantaneously when the utterly unmemorable leader shows his face and can easily be put on hold for a Valentines’ Day episode, which is the only time the show has a pulse of life in it. As if the cherry on this shit cake wasn’t placed yet, you get the last two episodes. Radical magicians forming in response to discriminatory boycotts from the ordinary humans who claim (race) superiority enact terrorist attacks against magician slavery……something never seen and of no value since all the main characters are magicians. Of course, none of them have any actual point that causes the main characters to question anything, or have the charisma of say, the villains in Die Hard. This would be like if The Hunger Games was from the perspective of the capitalists on top……………do I even need to say what’s wrong with that? Everything else? Well, Erika’s the only returning side character allowed to have half a personality but it doesn’t matter any, and no one else even gets that much. There's a girl who looks like a China Doll that.....exists I guess? The animation is decent; nothing exceptional but without a single memorable action scene, but it fixed the first season’s color grading issue while maintaining a clean look, and the soundtrack is poorly mixed. Most of it is unmemorable dubstep techno, but Episode 9 tries to have a rap go along with it that’s super drowned out by the dialogue and action sfx. There’s so little to attach yourself to in this series. Mahouka confuses me, it really really does. I’ve seen bad anime aplenty that set clear goals for themselves and fail at them, but I’ve hardly seen an anime be so antithetical to everything about basic storytelling. Even series like SAO can pass off as fantasy adventure stories with kernels of depth, some icky scenes and the occasional bit of earned emotion. Mahouka can’t even do THAT. It’s a bevy of mismanaged priorities and “things people like” stuck in perpetually constant status quo with protagonists that have such a foothold over everything else that they’d be perfect villains in another work. I try to imagine the visions of the creators when watching anime, and there’s nothing here. A super serious science anime with botched attempts at political drama, that’s also stuck with incest pandering, fanservice, and childish comedy. It wants to be everything at once throughout its the 4 and a half hours, and accomplishes nothing. Appeal exists in media, even bad media, but Mahouka stands as a narratively backwards empty shell only notable for its failings.
Ew. Honestly, I am surprised that I did not enjoy this. I love power fantasy anime and this is that. I also liked the first season but for reason I did not enjoy this. This did have nice animation, good voice acting and a banger opening but for some reason I did not enjoy at all. Story: Some ships were bombed by a mystery person who was like one of the main characters. Then Tatsuya did some epic things and fights happened. Then some mystery foe which I don't remember what it was but there was some fighting with them Characters: Mostly bland. Tatsuya is just your averagepower fantasy mc so he is cool, different than everyone else and strong as heck. Miyuki is still the same annoying piece of shit she always was with even more Brother complex. She needs to not exist. Angelina was cool tho. Others were the same as usual Ost: Ost was good and the opening nice. Would I recommend? No
Finally, the long anticipated return of one of the best LN franchises of all time to the anime medium. Mahouka does not disappoint at all in its second season and if anything, 8bit have taken the series to new heights. I’ve spoken for weeks about how Mahouka is clear of any other anime this season. I stand by that statement with this review as well. It was by far my favourite show of the season and if you enjoyed the first season, you will love this. When Mahouka switched from Madhouse to 8bit, I was a bit skeptical about how they would handle adapting the series. The visitor arc is a fan favourite of the series and sets up a lot of important things for the rest of the series. Luckily, 8bit didn’t miss a beat, and even surpassed Madhouse in many respects. Adaptation wise, I think 8bit were pretty faithful to the LN’s. With Mahouka, one of the things that makes it so adored is its highly detailed magic system and world. It’s not a series for people who just want to see fights and cool animation. This is really for people who are looking to sink their teeth into some complex ideas. The visitor arc itself deals with some really complex issues that 8bit did a really good job of explaining adequately in a way that Light Novel readers and first time viewers could appreciate. I think the pacing and direction in general were top notch and felt that all the key details were left in. While Mahouka does focus on a lot of politics, magic systems and other character interaction type things, it does have fights. And when those fights happen, they are really well choreographed by 8bit in this season. I thought the animation was really solid during several of the big fight scenes this season. I also think the OST is even better than season 1 this time around. In conclusion, if you are at all a fan of the series or enjoyed the first season, you will love Mahouka season 2. It takes everything in season 1 and makes it even better. If you did not like Mahouka season 1, have issues with the “incest” vibes, etc. Just save your time, you know this isn’t for you. Mahouka season 2 gets 10 out of 10.
*Knock on door* *Door opens* Random person 1: Yes? Shadowy figure 68: Good day sir/mam. We are the Believers of Godsuya. Could we have a moment to- *Door slams shut* . . . Ladies and gentlemen, He is BACK! Grab on to a clean pair of underwear, clench those buttcheeks, straps yourselves to your vests and glue your eyes to your screen because you won't wanna miss what's next. He Man Himself has, after YEARS of absence, once again graced us peasants with his presence. He goes by many names - The Man, The Legend, Godsuya, Mansuya, Bro, Ani-Sama, Chad, xXx_NoobSlayer_xXx, but here people call him the Irregular at Magic High School. Enoughdelaying, let's jump straight into his Holiness' perfection. Story: 4 Aliens.jpeg BUT they're from another dimension. And they are magical! And telepathical! And they don't use CADs! And they don't die when they are killed! And one of them has the hots for Mansuya (can't blame it tbh). And they want to destroy the world. But they made one grave miscalculation - they forgot about the existence of God himself in human form. This could and does end only one way for these unfortunate visitors. But apart from those slimy tentacle aliens, other groups, such as the USNA, the Sages, some terrorist groups, some Chinese mafia, as well as Japan's own military forces and backstage crime families decided to throw their hats into the fray. Sadly for them, they dared step foot into the domain of the Man himself and got rightfully clapped into submission. Art: 4 No visual effects conceived and created by human beings can even try to represent the immeasurable perfection that is the existence of Mansuya! Sound: 4 The only sounds worthy of being associated with His Holiness are the sounds he himself makes when he educates the unwashed masses, as well as the lamentation of his defeated foes. Characters: 4 There is only One character worth mentioning in this Anime and He is written in the very title. But being the humble and gracious Master that He is, He allows the the existence of additional humans in his presence. So let's go through some of the disposable meat sacks that tag along. We have the big breasted megane girl that can see things, the spiritual guy that uses spirits, the big breasted twintail girl who thirsts over our Chad, the short haired kuudere that also secretly, most likely thirsts after Him, the redhead tomboy with medium breasts, the tall, muscular but brainless punching bag jock, the plethora of irrelevant walking CO2 factories, the majority of who also thirst for Godsuya, some black-eyes grandpa, some big breasted, big haired aunt, some blue eyed blond twintailed big breasted american exchange student, and, of course, the big breasted little sister. They one and only purpose in this anime is to contrast the ideal image of the gracious and wonderful Mansuya with their imperfections and mortality. Enjoyment: 8 Do you enjoy seeing one character literally stomp the ever-living hell out of his adversaries. Do you enjoy seeing a justified harem? Do you enjoy seeing God himself descend upon humanity and repair a 2000+ meter high building in a split second WITH HIS MIND? Do you enjoy long, made-up science jibberish being shoved down your ungrateful throat? Then you have made the right choice by picking this anime! Overall: 5 If this anime consisted of Tatsuya and Tatsuya only, the score would have been a perfect 10/10. Unfortunately, he is forced to mingle with a contingent of mortal rabble on a daily basis, who's only redeeming quality is being a stepping stone for Him!
Ok I'm not even going to try to justify to myself why I decided to watch this in the first place. Honestly save yourself the hassle of adding this to your PTW list because it is a waste of time and just bad ... like objectively just atrocious. I remember moderately enjoying the first season since I watched the first season when I had just gotten into anime and when I watched it, I was watching a lot of isekai power fantasy -ish type of anime and this series fit the bill. Retrospectively the whole thing is pretty bad. Overall it has the plot ofa shitty 'win'cest hentai without any of the sex scenes, so you're just sitting there awkwardly looking at two siblings awkwardly oozing sexual tension. Honestly the plot is secondary to this weird wincest dynamic that is going on. This would be a decent hentai .... Other than that there isn't much to say. The characters are all as bland as white bread (maybe I shouldn't even say that as it is kind of insulting to white bread). Yea ... Just don't watch it, there are many hentai out there with the same concept, better plot and actual sex scenes ...
This is one of those shows that I would like to write my opinion and review on, mostly because I really wanted to like the show and its premise, and I do enjoy seeing Gary Stu-type characters more than Mary Sue-type characters because of one reason: Gary Stus have a goal. And in the first season, one could argue Tatsuya's goal was to make the world a better place by the integration of magic into non-military affairs. In the second season... well, the second season is a drop in terms of quality, music and plot, all of the things that made the first season somewhatdecent to me. Story: It's about a bunch of parasites that somehow made their way over to Japan and were created by an experiment gone awry, as well as a young agent of the USNA's Stars special forces who is completely incapable of doing any spycraft and whose pseudonym is too on-the-nose for it to be an actual cover for a high school girl with strategic-class magic. It was really nonsensical and steered so far away from the first season that, if this season were named anything other than The Irregular at Magic High School, it'd fall through a black hole itself without the previous season's charm. They do attempt to explain their magic system somewhat, like where energy comes from, so that's at least a point up. The "discrimination" parts seemed about as shoehorned into this show as they were in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Magic was shown to be an overall net positive for humanity, especially given the first season's introduction and the entire Yokohama arc that featured using magic for nuclear fusion. Thusly, the whole "anti-magic" story bits were forced in to perform some kind of virtue signalling when there was no room for it in the topic it tried to signal in. Art: good and at least somewhat appealing, which is mostly thanks to the established lore of the first season. I noticed there were a few odd animation style switches here and there which is a pretty bad mistake to make. Sound: the memorable and catchy tracks from the first season are completely gone. I don't remember a single track they used during the episodes themselves. It felt like they tried too hard to mix rap with electronic music, the result of which was absolute horror. At least the few tracks that had rap music were used smarter in the first season, with only their best parts included which truly made for some memorable scenes. Oh, and voiceovers and ability sounds were good, just that the overall score, in my opinion, suffers because of the lack of memorable music. Characters: Oh boy. Oh, dear Lord I hated so many characters in this. Miyuki is the same annoying brat who thinks incest is a good thing and she just needs to stop breathing, right now. I hated her from the very beginning of the series, and I hate her even more now. Even more so now that for some reason she also has locked powers. And Miyuki is even more irrational and irresponsible in this than in the previous season as she dumps Honoka at one point when there was a real danger in the school, one which Honoka has nothing to protect herself against. Every single time there was an incestuous scene between Tatsuya and Miyuki, I had to skip it. I can't take it. I'm not going to sit here, watch this show and pretend as if it's "fun and wholesome" when it's nothing more than an actively abusive relationship where Miyuki seems to hold a Stockholm syndrome-affected Tatsuya to herself. Honoka felt like she was shoehorned in to provide some "competition" for Miyuki, but anyone with half a brain knows that the writers would not dare strip Miyuki away from Tatsuya for even a few scenes that involve other characters. Erika was more or less the same tease as before, so that was fine by me. I lamented how little there was of Tatsuya and Leo teaming up together, especially because I liked Leo as a character, what little there was of him, in the previous season. Mikihiko seemed to receive an upgrade in his powers and Mizuki also saw her ability to see things others can't used more, so that was a plus. Mayumi Saegusa was my favorite pick for Tatsuya's sidekick / love interest. She was shown to be very powerful, possibly on par with Miyuki, she showed genuine interest in him, she was kind enough to him and even cooperated on a lot of things with him. The fact that the show, during the first season, even suggested Tatsuya should marry with Mayumi was a positive for me. Alas, that's me lamenting how the second season is so much worse than anything because here, Mayumi is downgraded into an envious, hate-filled airhead who seems really unstable and bipolar, going so far as to actively wanting to cause as much dissatisfaction towards Tatsuya as possible, which is a huge disconnect for her character between season 1 and the standalone 2017 movie. And then there's Tatsuya itself. Oh boy, how they downgraded my boy in terms of strategy, intellect and initiative. The biggest plot hole by far is Tatsuya just not using Gram Demolition every two seconds to solve his problems, and given that Gram Demolition is one of his signature moves, alongside Regrowth, Flash Cast and Material Burst, that meant that every fight scene was too tacky to even enjoy due to the plot downgrading the star Gary Stu of the show, except the two times he actually took on Angelina Shields. Unlike in the first season where he actively was able to team up with others, this season forced Tatsuya to say no with everyone just so we could see more abusive incest between him and Miyuki. Enjoyment: I was forced to skip a whole lot more scenes in this than in the previous season. I can't stand cringe, incestuous, nonsensical or poor plot moments and that's saying something when a season that's half the length of the previous one forces me to skip four to five times more. I hated every eye candy scene, they made no sense and, in my eyes, served purely to distract viewers from the poor writing. I was quite possibly mentally suffering by the end of this season, it was just that bad. Overall: Spare yourselves the agony. Watch the first season, skip incest scenes, and don't watch the second season whatsoever. You'll find greater enjoyment there than you would here.
Art: 8 Just look at it. Do I need to explain? Sound: 7 On the good side. ___________________________________________ Okay... The crap I really don't judge anime by has been rated. Here's the meat:This show can be described as incest at high school with Gary Stu and somehow information vampires are thrown in. Characters: 1 The first season was bad at this, everybody was bland, but with the coming of a sequel you would think something here improves. But no... Tatsuya... the usual Gary Stu with a sister complex. Miyuki... the usual Mary Sue with a big brother complex. The other characters... the polyamorous support background. Not a single one has a relatable side story, not a single one shines by themselves. The closest thing to a character that did anything of relatability was the American girl... but only to the extent of fulfilling a trope. Story: 3 What story? Anything that happens, the polyamorous support background will try to fix it and fail, and Tatsuya will pull the solution out of his ass while clutching his incest body pillow and wearing a cool face. Literally true no matter what the problem is. Also some how information vampires like in Valvrape the Liberator because why not? Enjoyment: 2 Literal cringe.
I actually thought this was pretty mundane. The first arc which carries for 11 chapters has no excitement. The opponent is a bunch of squiggly lines (you'll understand when you see it) and is not at all compelling. Also, no answers are given to why they even do what they are doing, and, to be honest, I don't really care. It just wasn't interesting. The second arc of this season is mumbo jumbo. It lasts for two episodes and is too rushed with a ridiculously convenient event happening that causes some threat. It is hard to explain without giving away the plot, but there is noreal threat until this event. The protagonist's main contribution to the plot is to monologue and explain really obvious things to us. I swear 70% of this season is him just standing around and monologuing. He does not have much impact on the plot. Incest; it was bad in the first series, but that pales in comparison to the romance between the sister and brother in this one. Really uncomfortable to watch. Also, the sister is annoying as hell and constantly says oni-sama in a screechy voice (practically forms 90% of her lines). She is constantly there; all I was thinking is 'go away! - Why are you even there?'
As keen on the Mahouka series, I turned eagerly expecting Raihousha-hen to delve deeper into the sector and characters I had grown to love. However, I discovered myself suffering to keep up with the breakneck tempo of the storyline and the avalanche of the latest records added in every episode. While the motion scenes have been as exhilarating as ever, I couldn`t shake the sensation of bewilderment and frustration because the plot raced ahead, leaving me behind. Raihousha-chicken may also fulfill die-tough fanatics hungry for greater Mahouka content, however for me, it turned into a dizzying and overwhelming revel in that in the long runfell brief of expectations.
The visitor arc of Irregular at magic high school is quite alright. It's a sequel so you shouldn't watch it without watching the original anime but if you enjoyed the original you'll like this one as well. The story is relatively interesting and there is more of a singular storyline than last season. The characters are the same as in the previous season with a few new additions and the artsyle is similar enough as well. The sound is worse than in season one so that's suboptimal. Overall you'll probably like the anime if you liked the first season and if you didn't like the firstseason you won't like this one either. If you haven't watched the first season, watch that first.
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen (2020) Well, what another blast of a season. For some, they may not like this show due to the pacing being somewhat mellow compared to what you would expect but in the case of this show, it works really well. The story moves onto another arc with more shenanigans and what a ride it was in this spectacular show. I love the way magic is performed as usual. Also, Miyuki continues on strong with her desires for her brother in the most wholesome way. She even acknowledges her issues but like with Yosuga no Sora where you know you love thesister so root her on. The art style here is very fine and well polished and keeps the same style throughout considering it has other materials. This is great since sometimes a new season is a new take on the art style used. The OP is nice and the ED is awesome. Generally speaking, the show flows nicely with sound and the combat is nice to listen too. Established characters develop a little but we know them all so well already. Newer characters develop a lot and even leave the show as such which is unusual to see a show have people actually leave arcs instead of just idly hanging around. We even get brand new characters to go forwards with the example of what will Mayumi do now her sisters are there for doting. Will Tatsuya have more girls and will Miyuki get angry, probably. In the end another strong season from the series and very interesting. We even have Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei announced going forward. So with more to come even as a spin-off, we can hope this show can continue to be adapted until the end. 9/10.
After the 1st season, we're now given a 2nd season , like it took 5 year before studio 8bit decide to make a sequel, so wtf is the fuck about this mediocre thing??? Story: Pros: The introduction of a new character and a new arc , called "Visitor's arc" , well that's what is said. Cons: The bottom line is that only little development has been introduce like the coming of a new girl who stay on to track down terrorist/ vampires/ other students of First High School, also there was that confliction plot where the initial target of that organization USNA is suppose to be theso called "God of destruction, but later change to vampire hunting and then, combatting Tatsuya and Miyuki and in the last fight them so called "New Breed Front." In fact the plot itself is basically a wishy washy type. Verdict 5 over 10. Art: Pros: A couple of Miyuki's fanservices and Tatsuya's manservice. Cons: No nipple flashes', limited underwear flashes and limited shower service. Everything else like the illustrations and Graphics were the usual. Verdict 5 over 10. Sound: Pros: Nothing to say. Cons: Seiyuus Hikasa Yoko and Nakamura Yuichi were just too old to even be voicing as teen agers. Also, not liking both the ending and opening. Verdict 3 over 10. Character: Pros: Nothing to say, since the main protagonist is simply having it easy and still has that siscon thing for his sister. Cons: What do you expect, Tatsuya and Miyuki were still having an incest relationship and having the main protagonist posses godtier powers simply make this series very predictable...and it is starting to bore me. Verdict 5 over 10 Enjoyment: Pros: Mediocre as it is, it was still worth watching....a bit. Cons: If ever 8bit decides to make a season 3 of this mediocre thing, IMAO, that would just pushing it especially when original creator, Satou Tsutomu has no plans to give Tatsuya some hardships of some sufferings. Verdict 4 over 10. Overall: Verdict 4 over 10. It is still worth watching...but barely, so should studio 8bit make another sequel??? Ans, if they're willing to push it then it's at their own risk.
Incest at Magic Highschool pt 2. This time around it was still the same boring bland cast we had before. With the actual reincarnation of god, Tatsuya, and our super human side kick, Miyuki. However, they add a new character this time around called Lina. I personally think Lina is a good addition to the team of side characters, she definitely has more characterization from the rest (probably because there was more of a focus on her). They also added a character called Pixie, which to be completely fair isn't much of a character in her own right. There is probably more to be saidabout the characters but that is all worth mentioning. The story has gotten better, to be completely fair, with a much more complex plot and villains than your copy pasted ones you got in season one. However, my overall enjoyment was lowered partly because a lot of the highschool mystery elements around Tatsuya were taken out and also because it felt more boring and bland this time around. Overall, the visuals seemed the same as last time, but the OPs and EDs had the same sound and were not as standoutish as last time around. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to people who want something good, if someone has nothing else to watch, then go right ahead.
Lets see. Its been almost 5 years since the last season was released, and I have been fervently waiting for it since then. The last season felt like it had many fans, and as an anime-only watcher, I think this season does not disappoint as a sequel. It is not without it’s faults, but after waiting a long ass time for this season to drop, it’s definitely satisfactory. As the last season really struck me as one of my favorites, expect a slightly longer review on this one lol. STORY: 8 The story itself is not fantastic, so I can’t give it a 10 or a9. However, it does do a good job of making out a story with all of it’s basic dramatic arc pieces. It definitely lacks somewhat as in terms of being revolutionary, but thats hardly a fault in itself. [+] 1. I think this anime does the job well story wise, presenting a somewhat compelling arc without the too technical jargon that plagued the first season. 2. Not having to world build definitely left some extra room for the story to grow. The story makes sense, and there isn’t anything that really drags it off course. Overall, its easy to digest. 3. Tatsuya’s OPness: no punched pulled. Which I love. Keeping Tatsuya at the same level of “OP” really does make the story move. [-] 1. The story itself is a bit... rushed i think. If you have watched the previous season, I think that they really nailed the pacing there, with three roughly 8 episode arcs for a nice 26 episode season. Here, I think they tried their best to replicate that but i think that effort was lacking. Although this was one arc, realistically its more like one and a third. Which sort of works counter to the pacing. The first arc centered around the gang and Lina, and then a small arc surrounding the New Breed Front. There isn’t much cohesion between the two. The “first arc” is a bit too long and missing key moments that stand out because of that, and the “Second arc” becomes too rushed and lacks substance. 2. Tatsuya’s OPness is way too overlooked. You’d think that by this moment, people would know by now and try to at least acknowledge him, but none of that exists. Thats just too much boneheadedness for me. ART: 9 The highest score I can give to any anime not named “fate/stay night UBW”. But in all honesty, the animation is crisp, the colors are fantastic and really match with the first season so nothing is lost there. No changes in style and the characters also look great. If you liked last season’s art, you’ll like this one. There is definitely less CGI in this season, which I also appreciate. But, besides that, very above average art that you’d expect from a good anime. SOUND:10 To be honest, I’m not really a sound critic, nor am I a OP/ED listener, but I did find myself enjoying the Opening song more than usual. The sound does get bonus points for really bringing back the nostalgia of the last season, which I described as being EDM-ish, and I’ll back that again. Great sound overall. No VAs out of place, so there’s continuity there as well. CHARACTER:9 Overall characters are great. The new one, Lina, is really well done and the story for her is well developed. We got to see characters grow and each one added their own imprint on the story. There weren’t many non-impactful characters, which I like. One negative that keeps it from being a 10 1. Tatsuya’s position: what really made the previous season pop with their characters was Tatsuya’s lack of status, especially in relation to other students. Since this season focused less on the school and more on outside factors, this gap factor is lost and Tatsuya’s character also loses something important about it. ENJOYMENT: 10 Nothing short of a 10 here. There’s a huge nostalgia factor here, but the whole anime is a great trip and truly does bring that same feeling that the first season had. I love it and enjoyed every second of it. OVERALL: 9 Lets see, I think I really addressed everything above. Overall this is a 9 just on averaging the scores. The story could have been better and the season could have been longer to include more material, but overall its good as a successor. So overall, its a 2 for story + 2 for characters+ 3 for enjoyment +1 for nostalgia +1 for visuals =9 overall. I’m really happy with this season, but definitely sad that it’s over. Hoping for a third season. Peace
If you come from Season 1, you know what to expect, it looks good, sounds good, the characters are interesting with enough depth to them to keep you engaged, and it's an overpowered anime protag wish fulfilment with harem elements and siscon elements thrown in for 'good measure' that makes for an enjoyable trashy anime. However while Season 1 had enough action and a lot going on with various different story arcs to keep you engaged and keep things interesting, season 2 falls flat as it is quite boring in comparison. We have one main story arc, but it is just not that interesting, and it goeson for so long that it just feels like it is dragging. Worse still, the main new character is also not that interesting either So, watching it feels tiresome and a chore, especially when you know that the best new characters get introduced late in the series, and the best episodes of the series are the last three, which is also when we get to see those new characters 'shine' There is no other way to describe this series other than poor, and I really enjoyed Series 1. For the most part, this just isn't anywhere close to the same standard
This is a "building" season... :) So... A good sequel but the best part is yet to come. It's all high quality like the first season so its a 9/10 to me technically speaking but I must give it an 8 due to it's shortness. The S1 was 26 episodes long, 13 episodes in this case and without a confermed sequel, it's like watching a good looking cake without take a taste, disappointing not just unplesant. This review is short I know but I have nothing more to say so this is just a filler, I don't wont to make a review of the firstseason so if you watched it and you liked it, this S2 is as good as S1 but it's simply the part 1 so without S3 (or S2 part 2) the feeling is not so satisfing.
Now what can I say about this. It was really mediocre. There is a limit how much op a character can get. I mean he can do everything. He is everywhere. he can see everything. I mean give me a break! will you? The previous season was very good. I mean aside from the op character there were so much things like school event, mass terrorism, different organization, excitement, spy. In this season there is nothing aside from shameless flirting between brother and sister. Girls fawning over tatsuya. Problems occurs. Tatsuya solves everything. Yeah I mean it. EVERYTHING. I mean he regrowth a damn tower. Can you imagine how much information that is. Illiterate fools won't get it but some will get it that how shit that scene was. I mean processing information of a spell or a certain area was legit. But this is a whole new level of stupidity. The height he couldn't even reach but now processed the information. bravo! The characters were as usual bland. Damn this season offers nothing. But I watch anime to enjoy not to criticize. It was a go to go anime. Normal one. Problem happens. OP mc takes care of that. Is there a single thing beside that? Well not in this season. I just wanna say, it was too predictable. It is a fine type 6/10 anime. But the animation and the voice acting add one more point. So overall 7/10
This is my very first review after years of using MAL, and I don't really expect people taking the time to read it. It should start with a disclaimer: I consider myself a fan a Mahouka, I discovered this series 6+ years ago by coincidence, it was my first LN, and it has been a guilty pleasure of mine since then. This review is like a way to close this. However, I'll try to be objective. Story: 5/10 It is fine if you don't think about it and just take it as it is presented. This series futuristic magical world is interesting as long as you don't mindsitting through the exposition dumps. Some scenes were cut in favor of fan service, but it shouldn't be noticeable unless you have read the source material. It can also be amusing to peel off the veneer of logic that the plot pretends to have and think about the absurdities that the plot implies, however this could also be detrimental since this show relies heavily on the suspension of disbelief. It is fine for being what it is even if it's irrational and not really original. Art: 6/10 It's OK. It's generic but there's worse. The reason why it is slightly above average to me, it's because they made the effort to update slightly the art style from the first season, and it was ok they didn't botch it. The fight scenes were also nice even if the fights themselves were short and I didn't got the chance to properly build up the excitement. And the fan service was also ok. Sound: 7/10 This is the best part of the season in my opinion. The techno vibe it went for was surprisingly good, I expected worse tbh. The OP and ED were ok though, I think that the ones from the first season were better. Characters: 4/10 The part that most people rightfully make fun off. The characters are what they are, they are generic and two-dimensional at best. The idea of the biological little sister really wanting her Oni-sama's D is cringy AF and I never got used to it even 6 years later. Tatsuya is non-comically OP and that can get old rapidly for most people. It hasn't changed at all since the first season, so if you come to this season, you already know what you'll get. Enjoyment: 8*/10 This last category depends heavily on the viewer. I understand why so many people don't enjoy Mahouka and that is ok. For some reason I can't really explain, I genuinely enjoy this trashy series, I know what it is, and I still like it. This series "clicked" with me and maybe, just maybe it will also "click" with you. Overall: 6/10 The Irregular at the Magic Highschool second season is a trashy generic anime that can be genuinely enjoyed if you give it a shot and are down to just take it for what it is as it is shown to the viewer. As a reader of the LN, the adaptation to this second season isn't as good as it could have been. It relied a little too much on the fan service scenes while leaving some interesting content on the cutting floor, but I still liked it and maybe you'll share my perspective to some extend regarding Mahouka. Thank you, stranger, for taking your valuable time to read this biased novice review of a fan of this series :)
