*Spoiler Warning* Please, take a seat and let me tell you why this anime sucks. I honestly would have skipped this if it wasn't for the fact I scrolled down the winter-anime-list until the end. Since there are so many, I skip many that don't seem interesting enough to try. Among the unpopular anime I started watching "Natsunagu", mainly because of the cover. It has a really cool-looking one and and as for usual I gave it a try and oh my, what I found wasn't pleasing. We are introduced to the protagonist who for some reason wants to meet her best "friend" because she had met herin an online game and after playing for a long time she suddenly decides to meet her supposedly best "friend" even though it's just her who wants for that to happen, but who even cares about that since the protagonist is just absolutely selfish. Yup, Natsuna is insufferable, unbearable, and insupportable. As long as she can accomplish stuff she cares about she won't be giving two shits about anyone else. I hate her because she's got helped so many times and yet, she's that selfish and at no point in the story she tried to change herself. There's a scene in a later episode when she talks to this girl and she kept asking her about the "friend" she herself had to travel to come and see and the girl said "No" at least 4 times in the span of 30 seconds and still, Natsuna was so persistent on this that at one point I really wanted to punch her right in the face. If someone says no, then it's a no. There is no point in asking anymore. Natsuna doesn't evolve. Her character doesn't mature. She's still the same person as she was in the first episode, and don't come to me and say that she matures in the last two episodes because she doesn't. She's helped by the support cast (which I have to say that it's so random everyone in the town helps her out) and gives her the motivation "she's in need". That's just a combination of deus ex machina and a little bs. Those three are here to serve help because she needs it? No, it’s because she's written this way. She doesn't need help and yet she gets it because we have to somehow lead her to the final destination even though she can do that easily by herself. As for the ending, I cried. Not because it was sad but because the show had finally ended. It took awhile but it finally happened and for whatever reason I have a feeling we'll be getting a sequel which in all honesty, I would like to be part of the staff so I can get the chance to write the story and with that in mind, kill Natsuna near the ending. Ah yeah, that's so spicy. Itsuki is way too good for Natsuna.
// SPOILER WARNING // Natsunagu! is a very cute short show about a girl who wants to meet up with someone she met in an online game after an earthquake hit the area her friend lives in. // Story // 9/10 This one is a simple to understand show, nothing complex about it, but it's simplicity makes it good. Natsuna met a girl on an online game and after an earthquake hit where her friend lives, she wanted to check on her, especially after said friend sent her a text saying "i want to see you", before the game shut down, cutting all ties between them. Natsuna now has totrack her friend Itsuki down with nothing more than her name and old adress, making some good friends along the way, and eventually reaching her goal in the end. Overall a good development for a short story, and it kind of reminds me of Kimi no na wa in some aspects, the whole looking for someone but you don't know who exactly you're looking for aspect. // Art // 10/10 The art style in this anime is actually quite simple but refreshing from all the plastic looking bright anime we've been getting as of late! A very water-color vibe and 90's ish vibe for the backgrounds, the art style is very clean and nice to look at, and definitely fits the tone of the story! // Sound // 8/10 There isn't much in the way of sound effects in this anime, when Natsuna stumbled, there wasn't any sound when she hit the floor (and if my memory is correct she didn't even say anything) but the voice acting is very good, Natsuna's voice is especially nice to me, it just has a nice ring to it. // Character // 8/10 The characters are kept simple and likeable, which is a good thing for a short show like this one. The only character surrounded in a mystery is Itsuki, but we do get to see her by the end of the series, so that's all good. Izumi's dad is also very likeable, reminds me of a typical american dad who likes to have a cold one with the bros on a saturday // Enjoyment // 9/10 I enjoyed watching this as the episodes were short and so there wasn't time for any filler. Everything you watch adds to the story and development, so you aren't wasting any time, everything builds up to the finale, and in my opinion, a nice and fitting conclusion to a cute short anime!
This was an enjoyable watch overall. The story is pretty simple as you can probably tell by the synopsis; I would say it isn't executed as well as it could have been. Some episodes seemed to kind of lose my interest with what was actually happening story-wise but I kept watching because I enjoyed the art/music. The art is absolutely beautiful, lots of very nice landscape scenes with sunsets and mountains. It feels quite simple but has a certain vibe to it that is aesthetically pleasing. The art-style goes well with the music choices, in my opinion. Sound is pretty good. I enjoyed almost all ofthe voice acting and the music selection was used well/all the songs were enjoyable. The characters felt pretty flat besides the main characters. I did become emotionally invested in her throughout the series, though. She is cute and you want things to work out for her the more you learn about her. All of the other characters mainly just a play a role in her story so they aren't really worth mentioning. Overall, it was an enjoyable watch. It's quite short at 48 minutes so it doesn't take a lot of time and would probably be a decent binge-watch if you are in the mood for something simple, aesthetically pleasing with good music, and pretty cute.
Reuploaded, forgive my bad typing skills. TL;DR Review: Story - 8: A Tokyo student decides to travel Kumamoto to meet her online friend she lost contact with after the Kumamoto earthquakes. The concept of meeting an online friend is surprisingly relatable. Art - 8: Unique and nice to look at. The animation isn't bad either. Sound - 7: Nothing too special or memorable, but it was nice to listen to in the moment. Character - 7: Normal characters. Nothing special about them. Enjoyment - 7: Some episodes felt rushed, with long pauses between dialogue and lack of sound effects at the right moments. Annoying, but not discouraging toenjoy. Overall - 7.4 (7) Full Review: Online friends are something that most people who use the internet have, it's very common. However, the thought as to who these 'friends' are like in person is a question many may find themselves asking, something I find myself asking, and maybe you who is reading this. Going across your town, city, country or even the world to meet an online friend is something else, some people simply don't have the motivation needed to meet friends across a said distance. Although, a few are willing to travel this distance to meet someone who is, essentially, the person behind the screen. Natsunagu! is one of those stories that tells the tale of meeting an online friend in real life. Story - 8: Natsuna Keyaki, a university student in Tokyo, decides to go meet her online friend, Itsuki Kusunoki, who is about 890 kilometres away from her after she lost contact with her due to the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes. Even though she has little information as to where her exact location is. Along this journey, Natsuna meets a junior high school student, Izumi Chiba, who helps Natsuna find Itsuki. This story heartwarming story is very short, though, it does give a nice wholesome experience for a viewer to enjoy. The downsides of Natsunagu! is that it does follow generic storylines towards the ending of the show which made for a less unique experience for the viewer. Art - 8: The art was unique, not seen anything like it before, though it isn't outstanding. It was simple, like art from a sketchbook, but very nice to look at. Same for the animation. Sound - 7: Nothing memorable, though it was nice in the moment when listening to it. There wasn't a wide variety of sounds either, just a few nice and calm OST. Character - 7: Fairly normal characters, that were kinda unrealistic or generic at a few points in the anime. Despite this, there weren't any other flaws with the characters, all weren't two dimensional and had some humanity to them. Enjoyment - 7: What killed the enjoyment was pauses between dialogue were extended a lot for some odd reason, this didn't work well since they were used constantly throughout a few episodes. Also, the lack of sound effects at times when they were needed. Apart from this, there wasn't anything wrong. Overall - 7.4 (7)
No spoilers review Story - Natsunagu! is about a young girl searching for her friend from online in real life after she loses connection with her online. Interesting to follow and heartwarming to watch. 7/10 Art - I love the animation direction the show decided to go with. Character designs to the world itself looked amazing. 6/10 Sound - Nothing about the music or sound of the show stood out to me, I would have to rematch to see if anything was interesting but that would miss the point. On the other end nothing was off with sound design ether. 4/10 Character - Adding onto the show'sanimation design, the characters look great but nothing more. 5/10 Enjoyment - It was fun while it lasted and I'm not sad its over nor happy it ended. I would recommend this to friends but personally it was fair. 5/10
2020 was a really weird year in every aspect, even when it comes to short length anime. A few years back, almost nobody cared about them and thus it was normal for them to get a decent rating because only a few people checked them out and thus they were given these shows positive ratings. But in the last year, almost all, if not all short length shows received very poor ratings, meaning not even these people were giving them good ratings. Natsunagu! is the only one I watched besides Heya Camp so I’m here to comment about this peculiar case. What is strange about thepoor reception this show received is that is about a sad waifu, thus it would normally get a good reception. Compared to most other short length anime that I watched (Fastening Days, Sengoku Choujuu Giga, Pupipo!, Ani*Kuri15, Bikini Warriors, Digital Juice, the first IGPX, Inferno Cop, fucking Teekyuu, fucking Urda, fucking Pupa, fucking Abunai Sisters, fucking Master of Torque, fucking Netsuzou Trap, and lots of specials or extras of normal lenght series, usually with chibi art styles) it has a sort of plot with continuity, somewhat likeable characters and is even decently animated, so what happened? The set up of the story is pretty stupid, no one would buy that the protagonist and her online friend would change their addresses but not their cell phone numbers and she even talks to the screen to tell the viewer that she had not other option, why? It’s not explained, it happened that way only to begin the plot, nothing else. And she didn’t even got her actual address, just a drawing, to make all of this even sillier. Personally, I also have problems to buy all of this because I am from a generation where you would normally make friends from face to face, in the real life, and even then I’m not the type of person that considers every person they talk to as their friends, but I recognize that younger people that grew up in the digital era and make lots of online friends they talk to every day could relate to the conflict and buy the premise, unlike me. Anyways, after the first episode the protagonist travels to a somewhat faraway place that suffered an earthquake in order to meet her online friend she met on a videogame without even knowing what she looks like and along the way she meets other people and ask them if they know about her and where does she lives. She temporarily lives with them, gets to know them, becomes their friend and gathers information regarding her friend along with them until she finds her. Leaving aside the crush a young girl has on an older policeman (which I find weird), the people from that prefecture remind me of the cast of Flying Witch, all of them are kind and friendly, most of the time they are happy, very nice people to tag along and the main girl has cute interactions with them, nothing more, nothing less. Eventually all that travel is rendered meaningless because the show hints a tragic ending that doesn’t happen, and the two final episodes change the tone from a relaxing and happy one to a melodramatic one with the two girls screaming at each other before getting the most simple and underwhelming resolution there is. What happened to the girl wasn’t that big of a deal and even if you can say that it was, all it took was for the protagonist to cheer her up for two episodes (about 8 to 10 minutes) and tell her that everything is gonna be fine, and that’s it, that’s how everything was resolved. Lame, what a waste of not so much time. Visually, the show looks and sounds cute and relaxing, as it should, and there’s really nothing else to say about these aspects, the voice acting is fine, the soundtrack, whenever present, and especially the ending song, warms you up, the backgrounds are beautifully drawn, everything here is ok. Now, the main issue of the show is not the crappy resolution, but rather that it failed at what it was trying to achieve, it’s a promotional series done by the Kumamoto prefecture itself, which is why is visually pretty and all of the characters are very likeable, but the thing is, you don’t get to see much of the places themselves, because the main conflict wasn’t allowing that, thus it fails to capture the attention of potential turists. And I even find it to be kind of insulting to the victims of the actual earthquake that happened in the real place, imagine everything they might have lost, and this series chooses to represent them with a girl that didn’t lost much, and whose depression goes away with extreme ease and just by talking to a girl she barely knows, if I were one of them I would find this to be even offensive. In the end, Natsunagu! is unexpectedly beautiful to look at and it gives you a calming and relaxing time for 9 episodes (the first was stupid, the last two were painful to watch) but it fails at everything that tries to do and its own messages backfire to it because of their poor handling. It is still among the better short lenght shows that I watched, because most of what I watched are complete garbage, but it has nothing to do against Heya Camp, which aired at the same time, and even less against Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko, which I consider to be the only worthy short length anime I’ve ever seen. Honestly, the best thing you will get out of it is the awesome cover. But I think that at least we can all agree that it’s a much better disaster series than Japan Sinks, man did I hate that dreadful show.
So yeah, if you, the viewer, hasn't noticed before, Japanese prefectures tend to sponsor anime from time to time. This one is one of them. This should immediately give you a basic idea: the budget will be pocket money from the tourist bureau, they'll want you to see the local famous spots, and the rest? The rest will probably be mostly left to the creative team to decide by themselves. And well, they decided. So, what was the result? Somehow it managed to feel like a huge troll while at the same time trying to be profound and tearjerky? ...like, in a good way? ........what? Let's try to explain. However, beware! These be spoiler-ish! If you are interested enough to want to know, just watch it first. It's just 4 minutes per episode counting the ending. Do note that said ending changes every now and then. Without further ado... Using the plot hooks from the tourist bureau (the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, and I suppose some stuff typical for this type of ads) they wrote a story about an outsider searching throughout the prefecture for an old friend. And wrote the outsider to be a girl who over-dramatizes everything. So yeah. Even though the rest of the cast are fairly normal (I have a soft spot for dads who love guests and love drinking with the guests), the MC manages to add spice in the fairly generic plot, even in the span of the three minutes episodes. What's more, when she finally gets on the right clue, she meets the granny of the old friend. And that granny is again a troll that makes an overly dramatic speech, just like her. And the friend is overly dramatic too. And in the end you are left with a situation that you feel is pretty normal but it got blown up to the stratosphere and back by the characters themselves. Thus troll tearjerker in a good way. [/spoiler-ish stuff] Anyway, the budget obviously did not let them do anything special with the animation or to hire big name seiyuus. The dad obviously was the best, and I am glad they could get Chiba Shigeru on this project. But it's not like any of the rest did a bad job. For what amounts to less than 40 minutes of content, I think you would not have many qualms on the technical execution. Which leads us perfectly to the question. Is this worth the lost 40 (or 48 if you are really feeling it) minutes? Yes. Yes, easily.
Cute. Simple. and Short. I watched this who ONA on Youtube. It look interesting and it reminded me a little of KyoAni. Natsunagu! is about this college student trying to find her online friend with little to no leads. She travels to Kumamoto from Tokyo literally asking the townspeople if they knew who she was. Everyone she meets is helpful and friendly, and she takes an adventure through Kumamoto, essentially a tour. Some episodes I skipped seconds through (its only 4minutes per episode!) because they were a bit boring and predictive. Art - simple and aesthetic vibe Sound- nice OST , i like the ending, itsounds like it can belong in KTV Characters- okay, the townspeople have personality, i feel like MC was too naive and accepting Enjoyment- was a good binge :) I feel that if it was a longer anime with more fleshed out character development, it would be very cute.
Itsuki, a regular teenage girl in search for a friend in a place she isn't really familiar with, Kumamoto, she meets some friendly people along the way in search for long lost friend and discovered all the places around Kumamoto. This anime is heartwarming, but felt lacking in most episodes for some reason, it's still a somehow good anime don't get me wrong. Art style, its pretty good, compared to big anime companies the visuals on this anime looks cute at times and is one of the reason why i watched this. Music is prolly what will be stuck to your head, its just so bloody good, likeseriously. Overall, It's not bad, but it's not good either, Theres not alot of stuff to talk about a fairly short anime tbh and this is just a one big advertisment for the Kumamoto Prefecture. Is it worth to watch it? I guess. If you have nothing to watch, watch this, As a filler. Other wise its "meh"
SPOILERS ALERT Mmm there's nothing much to say about this anime, it was boring and predictable... The main character acts like a child when its already a College student; she needs everybody to help her, she doesn't even have a clue where to find her friend despite being friends for so long! I also found her voice to be really annoying. The final episodes were really bad, her friend lied to her and she didn't noticed (obviously to get more tension in the last episode) and the classical let's run to her, trip and get motivation to get there. The characters also cry a lot for someone they justmet, I mean with Itsuki is reasonable but even the guy from the shop? Also the trauma Itsuki had after the earthquake was not being able to draw again? I mean its ok but I thought she was scared because of the earthquake?!! The whole "I thought you hated me" I mean why would she? she doesn't even know you can't draw again!! why would she hate you if she came all the way to look for you? That's just to add emotional but nonsense value to the plot! The series is trying too much to be cute and charming that the plot and characters get nowhere, they don't develop, they just cry... Also the music was actually pretty bad, the ending song was good but the music they played during a "funny scene" was irritating! The only thing I liked about the series was the art, it was colorful, like a paiting and the animation was ok.
story 9/10: I think this story is very touching, judging by the closeness and kindness of each character. and the end of this story makes me cry. art 9/10: I really like the art style, it looks bright and cheerful. Like a moving watercolor painting. Sound 8/10: each character's voice is very soft, especially the voice of the main cast. effects for the sound of each movement are also not too excessive. but I think there are some parts that don't quite fit, like when the main player cries, but it's not too flashy. 9/10 characters: each character behaves well, even I am amazed how they become closeeven though they have just met. every character has at least a cheerful nature. Enjoyment 9/10: I enjoy the story, each episode intrigues me with the rest of the story. Its appearance makes the eyes pampered with bright colors.
Natsunagu! is not good, but is not bad too. Is an anime in the media, but not in the negative meaning, it's a work that is maded more to relax in afternoon then see a long (or not) narrative. This serie was maded by Kumamoto Prefecture, in the extreme south of Japan, where have a earthquake in 2016, and has a amateur animaton, nay, a simple animation that is not the same of bad animation. The serie was maded by Kumamonto Prefecture to promove the city after the earthquake. It's possible found an excessive valorization of the local ambient, scenery and landscape present in composition of the city, in stores and streets, but the scenary and the lanscape of Kumamoto is not only in places, but in the local people too, in their actions, situations, emotions, like in the pictures of Natsuna and Itsuki in the on-line game. All of this to show the beauty of Kumamoto, and the way to do it was thought colors, even if half off due to amateur animation, and open plans like and a low presence of detail plans / more closed. However, it's not meaning the characters is less important than scenary and the anime is only a romantic landscape picture; the characters are part of this picture, like they are the own scenary, and it's the objetive of the serie: show the humanity and simplicity of people. The simplicity of people in Kumamoto is a contrast comparing with busy and cosmopolitan life in tokyo, where Natsuna lives. Implicity, Natsunagu! is a critic of individualist and frenetic life of urban citys. Natsuna, the girl who has little physical contact with her friends and her best friend is a person in a online game, go to another world with a different reality that she doesn't live in Tokyo. It's a little experience to get out of the frenetic world that we live.
Cute I started watching this when was airing but i couldnt find the episodes anymore so i stopped. Now 2022 just after i finished, i saw that "The project is produced by Kumamoto prefecture, in an effort to boost their image and arouse tourist interest"... So yeah, dont expect too much, but i think its really cute and since its just 4 minutes each episode, you can do it in one go! Not sure if i would go to Kumamoto hehe, i mean, it doesnt look like a bad place, but, it just looked like there is nothing much to do lol
