The members of the Gourmet Guild—Yuuki, Kokkoro, Pecorine, and Karyl—continue to scour the world in pursuit of their goal to seek out all delicious food in existence. However, as their adventures progress, the mysteries behind Yuuki's memories, Karyl's allegiance, and Pecorine's heritage begin to come together—seemingly forming the truth that makes up the world's very foundation. An unbelievable project by Cygames to delight us with unparalleled consistency week by week. Tears flowing, laughs fulfilling, emotions conflicting, and fiction peaking. A comfy yet extravagant show that truly deserves recognition. Sakuga after sakuga. Peak kino cinema. Framing in Princess Connect don't miss, and so does the people behind this work of art. A big applause to the staff and everyone working on this anime project. Treating us with visuals that surpasses boundaries, bringing out every emotion from its soundtracks and direction, and most of all giving care to their own creation. We can't talk about Priconne without talking about its waifus. A wide range offemale cast that at first feels overwhelming to non-gacha fans, yet they still hold that very special place. Each guild was given one episodic story to develop, but still be impactful and contributing to the entirety of the show all throughout. No matter your favorite character, each had their own charms to proudly present to its viewers, earning fans. Finally our Gourmet Guild's journey. Compromised of four of the most lovable set of characters you could encounter, elevating the show's charms with their own spices to the dish. Deep bonds that tie them. The adventure and journey they each share. We couldn't have asked for a more better and loving cast. Thank you Cygames for bringing this game, this world, and these characters to life. No words can unravel the gratefulness I feel towards the people behind this wonderful team. Princess Connect S2 started and ended with a banger. Unforgettable. My Anime of the Season.
After watching this season, I can conclude that the show finally has its happy ending. It was a great 24-episode journey with the Gourmet Guild and the ending is really satisfying. Usually, video-game adaptations in the anime industry could be disappointing; apparently, the show is not following that harsh criticism. From my experience, the anime did not induce confusion, and I appreciate the fun moments most. Believe me when I will mention fun multiple times in this review because I really did. Story: 9/10 The story takes place after its video game events which should pretty much signify its importance in understanding the contexts in the anime. It requires the audience to be aware of the events prior to the anime, but it is not necessary since the story will be revealing the events through hints and occurrences that can be assumed and concluded, therefore, it is also not a problem to watch the anime without context from its original game. Of course, it is still better having a short understanding of the events before so check them out through research. If you are lazy however and wanted to know a bit through my analogy with another anime, it would be like the fate series since the endgame results to having its “winner” grant a wish. This also includes fight sequences and styles from the other anime. Regardless, the fantasy world is interesting in its own with a mix of comedy and fun from the cute and adorable characters of the story. After the video game events, the story is set on a fantasy world where the protagonist falls from the sky with no recollection before meeting his comrades. He journeyed throughout the nation of “Landosol” and found friends to bond with and later form a guild called the “Gourmet Guild”. With the main mission of finding the best food and ingredients for the guild, mysteries bounding Yuuki started revealing itself explaining how the world and the relevant memories connect to the events happening currently and the dangers that must have happened from his past. With how this story is set up, it may seem not seem exciting, but the journey and the character development stories are wonderful in a world full of anime girls. Yes, only a few male characters to be noticed. Characters: 9/10 The protagonist himself is not the strongest and he doesn’t have the most appealing characteristics among the main characters. It would seem that Pecorine is the strongest fighter among them, and Karyl is left on the second spot for that. That is just how their party was setup, so it shouldn’t be a problem. But after watching this season, I’d say that there would be surprises to be expected for the main characters, especially from Yuuki himself. The anime is a video game adaptation with many selections of characters to choose from, so the show reveals many side characters that has a short time on screen that would manage to come back later. This kind of detail is both a good thing and a bad thing because many characters appearing in the show can be confusing and their existence may seem forgetful later, but a variety could raise multiple base preferences and relatable characters. Not to mention how many names you would have to remember. Art: 10/10 The only problem with its art style is its consistency. Otherwise, most of the animations were enjoyable to the point it becomes fluid. There was only one instance when they lost its consistency in animation quality, but it won’t affect the overall enjoyment of the show so this can be overlooked easily. The fighting animations are flashy in terms of its movements and use of visual effects. There are also many beautiful sceneries and vibrant details. Fight scenes are not intense and very serious, but the style in which characters fight seems more fun than intense, that’s why their adventures were given captivating moments for the audience to remember at least. Sound: 8/10 The opening song is great, but it was repeatedly used from the first season which I think came also from its original game, but it wasn’t bad since it still appreciated as a video game adaptation and staying true to its own. However, its repetition played different tones and styles in many key scenes which induced nostalgia and melancholy for the anime which was a good touch for its music category. However, the variety to its music could be better, but I doubt since the quality of background music still strengthens the thrill and intensity of fighting in the anime for example. Other than its use of music, sound effects are overpowering and bold, especially for its fight scenes. Overall, it was very good and not bad from my perspective. Enjoyment: 10/10 Do you realize how often I mentioned fight scenes while making this review? Surely, my enjoyment could be based on this experience. There were many amazing fight sequences that are very flashy and animated very well which is still light for its fun atmosphere but still intense for all the colorful effects on screen. The adventures of the Gourmet Guild were also fun. The adorable and hilarious faces of the team, especially Kyaru’s panic faces and Kokkoro’s “meep”, the funny attempts and dangers of the guild during their adventures, the interesting side characters that are introduced in many of its episodes. Not to mention, the surrounding yuri moment developed between Karyl and Pecorine - but it is rather wholesome in my own opinion. Final rating is based heavily on my art quality and enjoyment for this anime. I would really recommend the anime to anyone who is looking for a heartwarming fantasy anime or a beautiful action fighting sequence with lots of cute girls in the action. However, this could be a disappointment for those who haven’t played or understood the story so far, but I would rather ask you to give it a chance even if no background info has been presented at the start.
YABAI DESU NE!!! Princess Connect! Re:Dive a.k.a PriConne is back with a blast, and so too is Cygames with hemorraging sales and marketing from the massively popular mobage RPG that's now expanded to more territories since the anime aired in Spring 2020 to resounding success, being the first-ever (though) underrated premiere-tier game adaptation ever seen in anime. 2 years have passed since then and now that with the game's global release on January 2021, Season 2 has arrived to continue the story where Season 1 left off, and for the most part, it was as enjoyable as the prequel, if slightly worse off by a tidbit. Andof course, being the newest fan of PriConne's anime back then before the global release, I have waited for a long while before I got the chance to sink into the actual game and daily-driving it since its inception. And boy, what an experience the actual mobage RPG was that I now feel content playing the game and knowing more about PriConne's world in much detail. Let's Re:Dive into Season 2! Since this is the anime version of PriConne, and though the game's lore is rich, opting to stay the same vibes as Season 1 is a sensible choice since we're practically left with Pecorine's backstory of realizing that she's the rightful Princess Eustiana von Astraea of Landosol. That, and with one of the Seven Crowns's inclusion as the frightening, fear-inducing antagonist Kaiser Insight stealing the throne and making use of Karyl to the best of her manipulation, Season 2 aims to finish this story plot off in the most bombastic manner while providing more easter eggs from the mobage. Together with the episodic stories of featuring more characters from the various guilds of PriConne that hasn't got spotlights on yet, this has always been a great way of to showcase fanservice since Day 1, and Season 2 emitted the same feelings as its prequel, albeit with someone new in the production team. We already know that KonoSuba director Takaomi Kanasaki is THE undisputable god when it comes to comedy, and he continues to outshine himself more...just on the sidelines as Chief Director. Instead, the directorial role is passed down to newbie director Yasuo Iwamoto, of which this is his debut doing an anime staff role (if you don't consider that weird ONA). At first, having a new staff join onboard at this stage of the plot (considering PriConne as a whole) was worrying because of the new directions that he would helm to take Season 2 forward, but after watching the entirety of the sequel season, I'd say that Takaomi Kanasaki really supervised Yasuo Iwamoto to understand how much lore can the new season be taken into context, while adding his own flare that you can't tell the difference whether is it really Kanasaki's or Iwamoto's. Case in point, the premiere episode of Season 2 with the same comedy gags featuring the hilariously derpy wolves to the rainbow vomit, and as great as Episode 1 is for a resounding return, I can't tell the difference between different episode directors because it was done just as well as it should be. There was even an episode that was purely dedicated to adapting an event from the mobage that was shrunk down for the episode with the details intact, and for an episodic series this was a gutsy risk, and I think it paid off well in terms of the overall story. So overall, not bad for a debut effort, though at times there's the feeling of disconnection that it should've been as good, if not on par with the prequel. It should come as no surprise that PriConne retains "Lost Princess" as the OP for the anime, because this is the main song theme for the franchise, and is such an iconic song within the PriConne fanbase that it'll not feel right not having one. I freaking love the song ever since the anime dropped 2 years ago, and this time they used the 2nd verse and chorus as a "replacement" for continuation purposes. The new ED in this case is even more comfy than Season 1's, and putting the sequel's content in context shows the difference in disparity. If it were up to me to judge which of the ED is better, I would take Season 2's over Season 1, but both are still very good songs in their own right. And what is PriConne without Cygames and their in-house studio CygamesPictures, which has been the de-facto deciding factor when it comes to pure sakuga insanity and enjoyment. From strength to strength, Season 2 looks even more polished than Season 1, but that's not to say that the prequel was bad. Season 1 knocked animation right out of the gate and delivered game-worthy pristine quality, putting a lot of game and mixed-media adaptations to shame. And Season 2 followed up with more of the same, but elevated up to 11, considering that this "rare" sequel is technically the end of the road for the anime, to send us the viewers into total fandom, because let's be honest, who doesn't like beautiful backgrounds, sceneries with high-octane animation to match? Game adaptations rarely get sequels, mostly because they're just promo material for the games, regardless if the anime did decently or flopped hard. And I might say that PriConne is the first ever franchise to do so that's worthy and akin to the typical high-profile Shonen shows of the modern day. The anime's road may end here, but let's not forget that PriConne was an unique experience all on its own. It's still THE gold standard for game adaptations to follow, and none will ever reach the amaze-balls feeling of awesomeness that is PriConne. If you haven't watched PriConne, now's the time to do so since both seasons have marked their end. And once you're done, hop onto the mobage to continue that story, because there's lots of investment values to be had. I never regretted putting down PriConne, and it's a lot of fun.
I will try to divide this review into two parts. The first part being pretty much spoiler free in terms of specific details and events (though it is impossible to talk about the plot without including some general information), and a second part which is basically just a spoiler filled place for me to talk about problems I have, that may be useful or interesting to people actually invested in the game. --- non-spoilery review --- This is a show based on a game by the same name. In the game, there is a point where the plot could possibly diverge. During a climactic, sort of final battle, the protagonist gets injured and is given a choice to go back and fight, or to give up, and "reset" the world. Resetting the world means going back to the beginning, and giving up on all his bonds. Or in other words, giving up all the relationships he has formed over the course of the story with all the characters, all the adventures they've had, all the memories. Giving up all this, to "try again". So you can choose to give up and try again, or not give up and get back into the fight. Giving up, leads to a bad ending in the game. The protagonist wakes up to Kokkoro singing him a lullaby, the same as when he first met her, but he is crying for all that he lost, even though he doesn't remember. Going back to the fight continues the story, and the story in the game currently is a continuation of that. The anime follows this "bad ending" scenario. It is kind of a what-if. An alternate timeline, that continues from his choice of giving up. This is the premise for the story, and as such, the overall plot should be about the protagonist, Yuuki, regaining all he lost, and this time doing things right. Instead, he is inexplicably relegated to being essentially a side-character for the show, while the real protagonists are Pecorine and Kyaru. He very rarely has any actual one on one scenes with other characters, and I could probably count the number of times he has any meaningful interaction with Kyaru, Peco, and Kokkoro, on one hand. Even if we add all three of them up. Whereas in the game, Yuuki has many one on one interactions with the characters, directly creating relationships and friendships between HIM specifically and the other characters, in the anime all of the relationships are built between the other members of his guild, bishokuden, while he just kind of stands around. This is completely at odds with the premise that they have created for this show, and clashes with the ending. In fact, the staff frequently make strange choices/changes, only to sort of write themselves into a corner, and then write in things that superficially undo those changes. The anime has way too many characters that are completely useless to the story, and only serve to eat up episodes that could've been used in expanding existing characters/relationships/plot. Then after their introduction episode, the characters are only brought back in some token, completely meaningless appearance at the end, if they even get brought back at all. Not to mention, all this does is confuse all of the anime-only's who are not going to keep track of all these characters dumped on them every week. Then we have all the OC characters. Characters who only exist in the anime for gags, or characters who eat up an episode to themselves only to never be seen again (like in episode 1). Here is an idea, why not use existing characters actually from the game for these roles? Finally, on characters, the anime is missing many characters that are very important to the plot, and whose absence makes entirely no sense. I don't even understand how they could do a proper season 3, because the presence of some of these missing characters in this first arc of the story is pretty important to a season 3. The anime suffers from an overall lack of direction. A failure to understand what Princess Connect is. It feels like they wanted to do something different from the game, but it ends up just being a vastly inferior version of that story. If they chose to do this version of the story with an intention to attract new fans to Princess Connect, because they wouldn't be familiar with the story from the game or its prequel, then they have failed at this because you either have slice of life episodes where nothing happens, or fast and loose plot out of nowhere. Couples with the fact the new characters are thrown at you left and right, with no way to possibly remember them, because the anime doesn't care about having you know the characters. I will give credit where credit is due though. The art game is on point. This show clearly had a good budget, and talented artists. There are many very well done action scenes, and it is generally very pleasing to look at. In summary, this is a poor adaptation of a game, but it has a high budget with great art. They should've just stuck to slice of life stuff, because they have no idea how to handle the story or the lore. If you don't know the source material, you will probably find yourself lost as the show goes on. People who just want to see cute girls, cool fight scenes, and turn off their brains for anything story related will probably enjoy it, I guess. ---spoilery rant stuff--- In regards to key characters being missing, and why this is a problem. The major problem here, is the absence of Twinkle Wish members Yui, Rei, and Hiyori. To simplify things, the world that Re Dive takes place in, is a world that is created by Yui's wish at the end of the original game. It is a world created to fulfil her wish, and as such, whenever the conditions of her wish can no longer be met, the world resets and starts again. This is why the world loops. So what is her wish? Her wish is to be with Yuuki forever (I'm paraphrasing). So whenever she, or Yuuki, dies then the wish can no longer be true and so the world resets. So how can Yui never show up in the first two seasons? Her wish is to basically be with Yuuki. The world is created to grant her wish. Yet the writers treat her like she doesn't exist and is a character from a previous loop. Further more, the second arc of the story heavily revolves around Yui, her wish, the circumstances of the world, etc. In the game, there is a lot of foreshadowing towards this during the first arc of the story. In the anime, because they have never introduced her, they have also never done any real foreshadowing to the further events. And if they do decide to do a season 3, what are they going to do, make Yui suddenly appear now and act like the viewers should care about her? There are some other character's whose absence does not make any sense. For example, Masaki. Masaki is Neneka's Princess Knight, just like Yuuki is Labyrista's Princess Knight. So where the hell is he, when Neneka is captured and all that? In the game, he works together with everyone to rescue her. In the anime, I guess he is on vacation. Or where is Muimi? Okuto? etc. All relatively important characters to the story. Let's go over some of the other plot problems. For some reason, looping has made certain characters weaker. Namely Yuuki and Kaiser Insight. Now, this doesn't make any sense, because this never happened in any other loops, it isn't suggested to be something that would happen if they did another loop in the game, and there is no real reason why Kaiser Insight would lose her special ability, and not any of the other Seven Crowns members. Kaiser Insight is not the one creating the loops and has nothing to do with it, so why would it affect her? Allow me to elaborate on her ability, and why this is a problem. Each member of the Seven Crowns has a special ability. The abilities have a special name that I am not going to bother trying to translate. Neneka's is the ability to copy things. She can create copies of herself or other things she has copied (for example other people), or she can change her own appearance as well. Labyrista is object creation/change. She can manipulate the world. Christina is a combat only ability which basically allows her to change the enemy's hit chance to 0% and her own hit chance to 100% (guaranteed dodge and attack). Kaiser Insight's special ability allows her to read all of the world's data, and by doing so this allows her to predict her enemies movements etc beforehand, making her difficult to fight (ignore the fact I am saying her instead of him). This ability ALSO allows her to know about previous loops, because she can read the world's data. There are only a handful of characters who know about previous loops, because their special ability allows them to. Christina's, for example, is a combat only ability, and so she knows nothing of previous loops. Because Kaiser Insight can no longer use this ability, she should no longer have any knowledge of the previous loops. Furthermore, she should also be much easier to fight. In my review, I wrote that the writers had pointlessly written themselves into a corner on occasion in the show. This is an example of that. If Kaiser Insight can no longer use her ability, which is what makes her strong, then she would no longer be much of a threat for the cast. So in order to rectify the problem that they created, they have Labyrista inexplicably fight her and lose, only to get captured and give her powers to Kaiser Insight. So what was the point in making this change to Kaiser Insight's character? Debuff her to make her weaker, only to buff her again through something else. Why not just have her not lose that ability in the first place? It's the same story with Yuuki. They create a needless dilemma with Yuuki in that he cannot use his powers because of all the looping, only to give Kokkoro a key out of nowhere to fix him. So why have this plot thread in the first place? They also actively avoid all mention of the real world. I imagine this is why Muimi is not in the show, because she actually has memories of the real world, and tries to explain it to others. The real world is VERY important to the story of Princess Connect. Outside of that extremely brief scene with Kiiri, where you can't even really tell what's going on and might not even know it is the real world if you haven't played the game, it never gets brought up. Labrysta's entire objective is to free everyone from the MMORPG they are stuck in, and to send them back to the real world. It is also Ameth's goal. Yet we never really see any of this in the anime. At the end of the season, Peco reunites with her parents. It is a tearful joyous moment. But... they are just NPC's. They are not her real parents, and any memories she has of them are fake. I feel like they are trying to ignore the real world aspect of the anime, and treat it as though it is just a fantasy world like in konosuba, so they can do things like this. However, it is a complete disregard of Princess Connects plot, and overall themes. There are many other problems with the anime. The fact that Yuuki barely speaks, and when he does he only speaks like a toddler. In the game he is a silent protagonist because of the fact that it is a game. However he can still speak normally, and shouldn't be treated this way in the anime. The fact that they removed all romance. Peco and Kyaru are in love with Yuuki in the game (as is virtually everyone...) whereas in the anime, most people don't seem to give a poop about him. The changes to characters, such as Kyaru and how she acts with Peco. Kokkoro's character. So many others. Some are still the same though. The fact that they do not understand the story of Princess Connect. For example, at the end, Yuuki gets gravely wounded. Labyrista says if he chooses to go back and fails, his very existence will be completely lost. This is nonsense, because if Yuuki dies, that just means that a new loop will start. He has died many times in fact. The anime also presents it as though Labyrista is the one causing the resets, when in actuality, she has nothing to do with it. Or consider that in the game, in the most recent story part, Labyrista gets mortally wounded via a blade, but she saves herself by basically stitching her insides back up together on the fly. She does this because of her special ability, and the fact she is a doctor. Then she does the same thing again shortly after. Meanwhile in the anime, she gets stabbed once and it's gg. The contradictions they make to the story they themselves wrote. Labyrista fights one on one with Kaiser Insight, which is very out of character for her. It is a gamble. Kaiser Insight mentions this, and Labyrista explains that it is because they are out of time. Yet at the end when Yuuki gets wounded, she asks him if he wants to reset or not, like it's no big deal to go through more loops. I thought we were out of time? Honestly, I could go on forever. But I have already written a bunch of text that nobody is going to read. So I will stop here. Just allow me to say what I think they should've done instead. I think they should've made an adaptation of the original game. Most Princess Connect players are not familiar with the original game, because it wasn't that popular, and it ended service after just a year or so. It also didn't have any anime scenes like in the current game, Re Dive. At the same time, the original game is really important story wise for the current game, so fans would've gotten a lot out of it, and new viewers could get into the anime and then jump into the current game which continues immediately after. Then for a second series, they could've started Re Dive. They could largely follow the game, and they wouldn't have to reintroduce all the characters because we already know them from the first series. I think this would've been really interesting.
Lemme just put this out now, I really dislike it when silly comedies attempt to introduce or shift gears into drama or a serious plot. A serious show would naturally be subject to more scrutiny in terms of reviewing its core elements compared to if the show were a complete comedy. Very few shows manage to pull this off competently, not even well, just competently, and unfortunately Priconne just isn't one of those shows. Then again, the upside is that the comedy bits are just really damned good. It's difficult to recommend a comedy without essentially ruining the joke, but everything from the bright exaggeratedartstyles, to the brilliant timing of the jokes is executed with a flair that makes it seem so effortless to pull off when it really isn't. If you were to hypothetically isolate all the episodic comedy bits from this season and the last, you'd end up with an 8 or 9/10 season easily. But as I alluded to in the beginning, this isn't the case. Cygames just insists on having its cake and eating it too, and so we get this strange abridged arc from the first two arcs of the mobage (it's been a long while since I quit so I can't say for sure now) awkwardly sandwiched in the middle of what's basically Konosuba-lite. The good(?) news is that at least the serious plot threads do reach a conclusion unlike the first season, and the creative staff do put in some lighthearted moments in the plot arcs themselves to leaven the tension a bit. But the forced amalgamation of serious plot threads and dumb wacky comedy is akin to having a birthday party and having your dog run over by a car in the same day. It just takes you outta the moment and out of a good time to suddenly consider and assess these heavy moments without as much of a warning. Still, it was nice to see the different groups get their focus in this season, and the MVP of the show is still Kazuma-kun and his buddy. Peco, Kyaru, and Yuuki-kun are all great as usual, and Yuuki-kun actually having some kind of character development puts him far and above the game's portrayal of him (on top of the anime version of him just being that much more likable overall), but Kokkoro's existence is still so meaningless you could write her out of the show with no difference. Overall, Priconne S2 is still a fun, even enjoyable show. But I do wish Cygames would just learn to pick a singular theme to focus on for whatever upcoming mobage adaptation they will do in the future. I mean, that's what the mobage itself is for isn't it? 7/10
I will now present my thesis on why Kyaru is best girl (slight spoilers). Have you ever tried to pick up a stray cat before? They will claw your face out and leave you bleeding on the side of the road. However, when given a proper home, affection and attention, a stray cat can undergo a glorious transformation and become a cute cat who loves belly rubs and headpats. They will never leave your side, constantly purring and wanting to return the same affection and attention that you show them. Kyaru just needs a good company. The gourmet guild is a perfect environment for her to growand thrive. Look at how her character developed when she had a taste of what it's like to have a decent family with Peco, Kokkoro and Yuuki. Look at how sad she looks every time she reminds herself of her 'mission.' She understands more than anyone else that deceiving and betraying is a bad thing. Kyaru knows that she isn't a good person. She's never considered herself as a 'good person' or even a decent daughter. Her whole grey character is meant to contrast our favourite bubbly cast of Pecorine, Kokkoro and Yuuki. Kyaru's abusive, toxic and broken relationship with her biological family has skewed her ability to have normal, caring relationships. That's part of the reason why she is so devoted to Kaiser. Even though her relationship with Kaiser is more on a "master and subordinate" level, Kaiser manipulates Kyaru by praising her for little things which gives her a sense of fleeting self affirmation. Kyaru feels like even someone like her can achieve something - that she can feel valued and useful by someone even if it is sourced from a toxic environment. Deep down, Kyaru understands that Kaiser isn't a good person either. That's a personal connection that she shares with Kaiser. Kyaru is drawn to this familiar environment because for as long as she can remember, she has always been surrounded by selfish, authoritative and abusive figures. Compared to her abusive domestic life at home, Kaiser offers Kyaru a much more fortunate and enticing 'safe space.' So what happens when you get a broken person to suddenly share good food, experience life, and have fun without fear of judgement or expectations with a group of likeable people that one might call "family"? Disconnection. This kind of unfamiliar, abnormal affection and familial environment is exactly the sort of thing that Kyaru was craving for her whole life. However, Kyaru is plagued by the fact that she doesn't consider herself a good person. She knows deep within her soul that she does not deserve this kind of normal love. Her whole upbringing and broken personality manifested in the tragic idea that love can only be earned. Perhaps Kyaru takes pride in finding her self-worth in earning that love since she has been preconditioned from an early stage of her life. The whole contrast between her "I want to be alone, don't talk to me!" tsundere cat persona versus her desire for genuine affection is a constant theme throughout her character development. It is heart-breaking to see the unhealthy ways Kyaru deals with being torn apart by this vicious cycle of seeking affirmation, self-worth and desire for companionship. Both the Gourmet Guild and us viewers can obviously see Kyaru coping with this dilemma by distancing herself from the group. Whenever she gets lost in the rare moment of genuine joy from experiencing adventuring, good foods and life with the trio, she suddenly cuts herself from that fun and reminds herself of her insignificant self-worth in order to fulfil her duty of betrayal. "Do I really deserve to be with these people?" Kyaru knows she isn't a good person. Kyaru knows she doesn't deserve to have fun. Kyaru hasn't done anything to earn affection from Pecorine, Kokkoro and Yuuki. If anything, Kyaru was prepared to receive backlash, and punishment from the trio once they learn of her deceit and betrayal. Kyaru hides behind her 'mission' almost like an excuse to stop herself from having fun and getting too close to the trio. Her mission is exactly like a mask that she wears daily to protect herself and the trio, similar to how she wears a mask with her ascended princess form. Ultimately, Kyaru is forced into a corner. She can't continue two separate lives at once. She is being torn apart by this constant internal conflict. Does she choose the sickeningly sweet, intimate family environment that Gourmet Guild offers or the familiar toxic environment that she's always been used to with Kaiser? Of course Kyaru wants to live with the Gourmet Guild. But she bottles her true feelings. Her ingrained, unhealthy perception of her low self-worth means she believes that she doesn't deserve to live in the same house. She doesn't want to taint their perfect family bubble. She feels out of place. Disconnected. Trapped in this internal conflict, Kyaru tragically falls back onto what she's always been familiar with - the toxic environment where she has to pridefully fight to earn her own value, self-worth and self-affirmation through fulfulling her duty and meeting Kaiser's expectations. In summary, please give Kyaru lots of headpats. Tell her it's okay. You did many mistakes, but that's okay. Just like me and any other human being on the planet, people make mistakes. While what you did was definitely wrong, it is ultimately up to Pecorine, Kokkoro and Yuuki to decide to forgive you. No. Just...no. Let me preface my review by letting you know that I really like PriConne. But this is just not it. - The story is dreadfully boring and generic. That's not something new, but without the Gacha shenanigans muddying it up, it just sticks out so much more. - The overfocus on Pecorine and Karyl. The fact that Kokkoro and co are always buzzing around Yuuki and we basically never see him alone (or with another girl) is annoying. - Where is the romance? PriConne is all about that. I'm pretty sure the majority of the people that watched this anime played the mobile game. Whereare all the bonding scenes? Hell, scenes with just some romance? There ain't none, because we just have to see Pecorine and co 24/7. - Why is Yuuki sidelined for 90% of the show? Just so that Pecorine can get another friendship boost power up and beat this week's villain? Or that we can see another unfunny face stuffing? I'm pretty sure someone on the directing board hugged her Dakimakura too much. I can't really explain the obscene amount of Pecorine stuff that's in this Season. -Where are all the characters? We barely see anyone apart from you-know-who. And if they're there, they're made to look stupid. - The only positives I have are the Art and Sounds. They're both very, very good. In closing... I don't know why I'm still expecting something from Gacha animes. If there ever is a Season 3 (which is highly unlikely), I won't watch it.
At first, I decided to watch this anime because of the posters from the first season that caught my attention. I watched the first season after it was released. I didn´t have idea about what it was about and who made it. Some gestures seemed very familiar to me so I checked that it was done by the same team who did Konosuba,I was so surprised!! But I enjoyed this anime way more than Konosuba. This anime has everything: emotions, mystery, good character´s development, funny jokes (fanservice very little, specially compared to Konosuba, here the comedy is on point). I really love the waythe story goes: the climax of the episodes, the pace of them, the music and the art. Everything is in the perfect place and some episodes were really emotional. Without spoiling, Pecorine is a girl who doesn´t stop when it comes to help others in need, she is brave but shows really deep emotions when the story goes forward. Karyl too. She goes through a very emotional journey. Yuuki is the perfect male main character. He seems to be weak at first, but with the episodes we realize he is the most strong character and went through many hardships as well. Kokkoro is a sweet girl who keeps supporting her friends. The way their friendship develop is really sweet. My only complain is that I needed to know more about Yuuki´s past, hopefully someday this can be in a movie or a possible season 3, even tough the story seems closed. Kokkoro also needed a bit more character´s development. There is some questions that need to be answered but the two seasons were great, it would be really sad if this great anime end it with only 24 episodes. In an unexpected way, it became one of my fav animes. Definitly 100% recommended.
If you liked Princonne season 1, you will absolutely love this season. The way they animated this season and created intense hype up for the finale was outstanding. I was left speechless and full of emotion by the end of this season and I believe this will stay with me for a quite a while. The story was just absolutely perfect. Each episode not only had an immense amount of comedy but also brought out drama and action. The way that they built up each episode for the finale kept me glued to my screen and wanting more and more every week. The art definitely hasbeen bumped up since season 1 and has such colourful and impactful scenes. The art during actions scenes make you feel empowered and a part of this anime. The art during sentimental and just slice-of-life scenes make you truly feel the atmosphere around them and creates a warmth in your heart. The sound effects for each slash, explosion, and overly used shouting to gain power turn the scenes into a very exciting and impactful attack to your eardrums. The music used for bgm and openings and endings were perfect and brought out the feelings that watchers needed to let out. The characters were absolutely adorable and amazing. Even the smallest screen time of side characters made their way into the season and into the finale making it truly an epic season. Not to mention how they all had their own character development shine throughout the season. Overall this season was a sight to behold and if I could I wish I could rewatch this over and over and over again for the first time and get hit but those waves of feelings and absolute adrenaline filling episodes once more. Definitely a anime worth watching if you love action and slice of life with an intense story driven plot and strong influential character development.
Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2 (2022) First off, bite me, this is the best show of the season. Continuing from the first fantastic season the show only went and got even better. More crisp and tasty in all aspects. A story that is great fun to watch with emotional ups and downs and even when everyone comes together which sometimes can be a bit rubbish this time round feels perfect. The art is the same style as before and a credit to the studio as it is that bit crisper. It looks amazing and I love it. The combat looks super too and really amazing tosee. The sound comes with banging music, OST, combat and voices. Even that nice silence before something crazy. The characters develop like no tomorrow and you get to see old favourites. For me, Eriko is fantastic and still the same dream as before. Karyl develops like mad too and becomes a stronger character than ever before. For me this show is superb from start to finish, at no point did I feel like it was boring or getting dull or anything. I think as worlds go it is definitely one you would want to be taken to in a real Isekai situation. Pecorine our princess really comes into her own here becoming a fan favourite too, since in the end regardless of Yuuki this is her story. I think the show for me is a 10/10. I think also how they finished this off we probably won't see this show again outside of maybe an OVA which is a shame but they did it very well for something that is a game at the end of the day. Maybe I will play the game to get the feeling it gives me again.
(2nd review don't expect much) We're back with the Gourment Guild, what's not to love about it? This project by CygamesPictures is incredible. The art is just so consistent every time a new episode came weekly. Like at first, I was just happy it was back. But then we got to episode 4 absolutely beautiful animation, I don't even know how I didn't notice before. Story: 9/10 The story takes place over the adventures of the game, though the game reveals more about the event taking place. The anime hints at these events making you want to wait for more if you haven't played the game. Of course,it won't ruin your watch. Art: 10/10 The art is spectacular, frame-by-frame perfection of sparkly and bubbly characters and fights. "Sometimes" though, the animation is inconsistent and isn't fully fluid but other than that perfectly fine and your watch won't be ruined. And if you love flashy movement and visual effects you'll love this along with its' animation. Sound: 9/10 The sound of the opening never really gets old, so plus there. I personally love the sound effects for the movements, OST, and the noise along with visual effects. I also like the little noises they sort of make during comedic moments. Other than that I think the sound is pretty good. Characters: 8/10 Yuuki is a fun character along with the Gourment Guild. Pecorine seems like the main character sometimes. And is probably the strongest fighter in the Guild, Karyl probably being second. And the true MC himself Yuuki is a supporter that has more secrets revealed as the story goes on. Enjoyment 9/10 Honestly loved it, The cast, animation etc. The fight scenes felt really energetic and vibrant. And that really boosted my experience. I also love the little funny moments where Kokkoro goes "meep!", along with that, the other characters the Gourment Guild meets. It's really fun and really cheerful. sometimes some events are questionable but enjoyable. And, uh we can't really leave out the development with Pecorine and Karyl. It feels like a beautiful and wholesome yuri development, entertainment that felt nice every once and a while. Overall: 10/10 This is a beautiful anime, I know I've said this multiple times but it's just so good. I recommend this to anyone that likes fantasy anime with a wholesome side, vibrant animation, bubbly fun characters (mostly girls). Though I will say, if you don't really understand the story from season 1 I don't know how you'll feel about this season. Anyway, that's about it if you somehow found this useful, nice. and sorry for the terrible review as I said it's my second review.
Princess Connect's 25 episodes literally took me 6 months to finish, but I have to admit that this is one of, if not the best mobile game adaption I've seen. At the end of the series, the animation got enhanced and was more fluid. As I was laughing, sobbing, and going through many different emotions while watching the show, I felt like I was a part of the Gourmet Guild myself. Because Karyl is so adorable in this series, I became really attached to her. wwwww. Definitely a must watch The show did a wonderful job of balancing the more serious topics in the showwith the daily activities of the Gourmet Guild in search of the best cuisine. Many new characters were introduced in the show, and many of them are very intriguing in their own right. Additionally, I adored the animation style because of how vibrant the colors and effects are. The show uses some CGI, but it's not overdone, and you wouldn't be put off by it because the animation is actually quite good. The Gourmet Guild's daily activities and sporadic quests were actually the nicest parts of Princess Connect: ReDive for me. This show has a moderate amount of humor and is not over the top.
Game adaptations of japan do not suffer from the same curse as they do in the west xD Priconne is a great standalone slice of life, but there is no doubt that this still remains a treat aimed at the user base of the original game. So the anime only may get left out of the loop in many cases, The anime was more focused on resolving past character conflicts of kyarl and Yuuki in the initial parts a bunch of new characters are also introduced, the slice of life tone shifts in a very good manner there was no instant switch hence it was quite digestible.Iwill admit it did get quite confusing when the main story arc was spanning out. A lot of wiki and youtube videos later I must say This anime is very well thought out and intertwines with the game rather well! But do keep in mind that there is a need to know a bit about the game to truly enjoy it. Plot (7/10) The plot does not get overly contrived and goes for a more slow-burn approach, and the payoff is rather good if you know what is going on. The slice-of-life moments we all loved in season 1 are still there for about the first third of the show.the comedy tone is almost gone tho , and i definitely missed that . Characters (8/10) Characters remain true to their past self, Yuuki however undergoes a small change due to a plot element that is best to leave unspoiled. Karyl undergoes good development and becomes all the closer to the party which is in direct conflict with her ambition as the queen's spy. Art and animation (9/10) Art and animation are really clean, with really good use of CGI (I mean they are a game studio so they have tonnes of experience). The animation is god tier too with a lot o really good action sequences and well jiggles (anime girls mate ofc that was where the budget must go) Sound and va (7/10) Same Op as last season, ed is pretty catchy too with its laid-back theme and good art. VA do a good job, no stand-out performances tho. Well if you loved the first season give it a shot, the vibe may change but th characters still remain true to their season 1 selves. Game fans will definitely have a much better insight on what to know before watching so do keep an eye on the browser while watching this.
Story 9/10 First of all, let's start with the story, the story presented in this anime is arguably very good. It tells the story of Pecorine's struggle to reclaim his kingdom, along with his friends. In each episode, we can feel the various emotions conveyed by each character. happiness, sadness, anger, etc. Art 8/10 for the art and animation in this anime, well, it's pretty nice. especially the animation that is presented during the scene against the shadow golems. The movement is very flexible and not stiff, it's very pleasing to the eye. Sound 9/10 the songs on this show are great. bgm/ost in this anime is a supporting factorto convey emotions to the audience, such as in the episode where pecorine and kokkoro cry. like ... mannn ... the song fits the scene very well, the sad atmosphere in that scene coupled with a beautiful song, makes salty liquid come out of my eyes. Character 8/10 and for each character has their own uniqueness, pecorine who is cheerful and often hungry, karyl who cares for his friends and is also cool, yuuki who is like a child who rarely talks, but once yuuki oftenly speaks, he becomes very gentleman,he is also a cheerful character, and kokkoro who always care for the master. overall I quite like the characters in this anime. especially when they start to develop, from weak to strong, from someone who is underestimated to become a hero. The character development in this show is very good. Enjoyment 9/10 for enjoyment, it's very clear I rate 9/10, from episodes 1 to 12, I never feel bored at all, every episode is packaged very well and interestingly. So, overall I give a 9/10 rating for this anime
Princess Connect! Re:Dive filled a hole that I had forgot needed filled. As this show went along, it gave me some vibes that reminded me of Sekirei. The problem with Sekirei was that it never got a final season whereas Priconne did. So, I finally got a little bit of closure there. Now, let's talk about Priconne. It was a great anime. I really liked the characters and they all had flaws but very redeeming qualities as well. The main character was super generic but I understand that they wouldn't want to give the protag too much character as they want the people who watchto insert their own character to him. I wish they would have done like the game and went over individual character stories for the story, but I understand that they may not have wanted to spoil game content by showcasing it all on the show. I don't think it would have taken away from the game though, as most people who play the game or watched the anime could probably still enjoy the other as an accompaniment to each other. That is the one major change that would have made my score of this show a 9 or 10. The sound and story were both amazing. Like, the story is not anything new but it is very well done. The soundtrack was awesome and I really like that they used the game themes effectively. So, overall, this was way better than I was expecting for an anime about a RPG gacha game. I would recommend this if you like anime with a lot of grand battles, themes of friendship, elements of betrayal, and that will leave you feeling pretty happy by the end. It's also a must watch if you play the game (as I do) but you'll find the characters don't get as much depth in the show.
Cliche but fun fantasy anime I've played the gacha game for this anime since it launched on Global, and it's not particularly unique but does the job of a gacha game. Cute characters, decent music, and flashy moves. The second season of the Priconnes anime is a great fanservice to those who play the gacha game as well as a servicable and entertaining ride for those clueless to the source. Just as the first season did, however, this season takes on a more serious tone. Positives: -Cute loveable characters -Very clean, bright, fun animation -Decent music (from the game) somewhat repetitive but ok -Great sound design, even better than last seasonNegatives: -This season takes itself too seriously for what it is at points, but still not to a ridiculous degree. -If you're someone easily bored by flashy, repetitive anime attacks, this isn't for you. Being from a gacha game, this is what you expect, but yeah, it is overall very repetitive and boring if you're not into hearing 'Princess Strike' 20 times in a season. But personally I really enjoy it because I'm a manchild. -A couple boring, irrelevant episodes that just weren't really entertaining. Conclusion: Good solid adaptation for Priconne fans. I hope we see more of Twinkle Star next season. For anime only, just like season one, it's an entertaining, cliche fantasy solid show for anyone who's interested.
You know, if you told me this gacha game adaptation with Konosuba-esque animation and seemingly wanting to imitate it comedy-wise (while, in my personal opinion, not really achieving that level of comedy) would end up being one of the anime that most hit those notes of true epicness and feels in the entire season, I would have taken that to be a joke, until I watched the last few episodes of this season. Now, I will say, I have never played the games. I do have more information than your average anime-only viewer but that's because I'm not the type that's overly concerned with spoilers. Still, even if this wasn't (I hear) an anime-original plot, my point is that I am coming at this with fresh eyes. And what do I see? In two seasons, they established characters, kept them dynamic and consistent, pursuing individual goals despite the slice of life elements, and it gradually builds up to the things that give it that amazing finale. There's a lot of easter eggs you could easily miss, and I certainly missed a whole lot of them since I don't play the game, but you don't need to be familiar with the game to understand the story... for the most part. There's still a lot about character powers and the like that really seems to be pulled out of the writer's ass to Deus Ex Machina an issue. This mostly comes from how vaguely defined most of the character's powers are, leaving one with little ability to form a real expectation on what they can or not do. Still, I generally found things engrossing enough that it didn't take me too much out of the scene. Speaking of those characters, of course there is adorableness and quirkyness all around, as you might imagine from the general light-hearted tone of the story and artstyle. As for the comedy, this show employs a mix of normal gag comedy, and what I've come to know as "character first comedy", where rather than writing a particularly comedic situation, one simply takes characters with comedy-prone, often pretty absurdly exaggerated traits, and puts them in regular situation and lets things happen organically. Examples of this kind of comedy are in Konosuba, and Girlfriend Girlfriend. If you're fond of the character's quirk, like their dynamic, or get attached to a character over time, then this type of comedy can really consistently deliver, and though it needs build up and can get repetitive, thus relying on a certain sweetspot to be most effective, it can feel like a pretty novel and organic way to deliver comedy, while at the same time reinforcing character. In this sense, Princess Connect Re:Dive season 2 really excels. It's not that great at gag comedy in my opinion as the jokes often end up feeling a bit dry or forced in that department, but it can be really fun to see how characters try to deal with situations once you see what those characters are all about and understand why and that they make the choices they make. I can't comment much on the sound, but the artstyle was brilliant. There's just about every type of artstyle quality you could want. There's a lot of good, detailed designs that you could stop and take a screenshot of, and it would be absolutely beautiful. There's great fluid, borderline abstract animation that people always seem to fall in love with. There's more boiled-down, very expressive and energetic konosuba-esque animation. You name it, you probably have it in this season. I think this variety of artstyles is representative of the overall versatility of the show, in that in keeping both comedy, drama and action to tied to the characters had an amazingly smooth transition for such a jarring different between cute, kinda funny slice of life misadvantures to a real ramp up of the action for a big epic finale. And that finale is the cream and the cherry on top of the cake. If you don't watch this show for the tender moments, the bits of funny comedy, or the cuteness, then I still recommend you watch the previous season and this, simply to get to watch those last four or five episodes. That's how good they were, in my opinion. I'll leave it at this, as I notice I'm rambling and not as coherent as I'd like to be, but I really wanted to take this opportunity to recommend the show, because it really deserves it. Is it a true masterpiece, the greatest anime of all time? No. But it's very good indeed, or so I think. I hope if you take my recommendation, that you enjoy it at least as much as well.
tl;dr surprisingly good sol season 2 with a heavier finale I've started writing fewer reviews recently but I'll take some time for this one to justify to myself why I gave it a high rating. Without knowledge of the game that the show is based on I can only build off of my knowledge of the previous season. Princonne 1 is a good show enjoyable in its own way as an example of a fairly well done SOL with unique characters and a rather unique premis. However what really sets it apart from similar isekai-ish shows is that while the male MC is surrounded by female charactersin a waifu-collector style there isn't any romance subplot that complicates the plot and distracts and detracts from the rest of the show. Indeed there is a great emphasis on the MC group being a guild of friends. Princonne 2 continues where the first season left off, our group of gourmands enjoying lighthearted forays to find the best foods from around the world. Great fun is had and a rather silly tone is kept up pretty much until the halfway point of the show. The second part of the season with a heavier and more linear plot pits our main characters against the forces of shadow and the evil princess and produces some very poignant moments and well scripted and animated fight scenes but also some emotional non sequiturs, though well intended. Without spoiling the plot it is difficult to describe why the second half feels off at times, and perhaps it's just me the viewer thinking into it too much. Either way it is a large part of the reason I cannot rate the show any higher than 7/10. But having said that, it is a very very deserving 7/10. I rarely make note of the art of a show but Princonne 2 really outdoes itself with the animations of characters faces, its fight scenes, and the beautiful backdrops that pervade the season. Much of the emotional weight of the second half is carried in the visuals rather than necessarily the voice (though the VAs deserve praise in their own right). And overall, it was truly an enjoyable viewing experience. I don't at all feel like I wasted time watching it. Do I think it could've been better? Sure. But as it is I feel like it was well worth the watch.
Well, good things first, this anime season is at least a bit better, than the first one, it is also one of the few at least passable game to anime adaptations. The music and art is okay, the art actually looks pretty nice, especially in fight scenes. So ontonthe bad ones, literally everything else. Im an idealist type of person, but when the literal power of friendship is the ultimate power up, its a little sus, its not a power up in a resolve/spirit/fighting spirit kind of way, but a literal power up. Yeah, interesting. The plot is more confusing than any science above 5th gradelevel to someone with an MBA degree (Shoutout to all the prestigious universities out there doing fuck all), while the characters themselves are the definition of "if 8 year olds found out about DND, but could not read the rule book". The MC only speak every three to five business days (but its better than it was in the first season) and I dont want to spoil anything, so Im only gonna say, that the mystery about the Mc when it was finally revealed just was a huge letdown, but at least they tried. The other characters are passable, the female kinda Mc trio are actually exemptions from the aforementioned 8 year old's Dnd rule, as they are suprisingly well written. I know its from a game, so Im inclined to not give that much flak to the anime itself, but they really made some weird deciwions with it. Trying to mend the game world and anime world together? -Didnt work Trying to be a Konosuba clone then switching to a more emotional psychology approach - didnt really work out either. I like idealistic, fun and light hearted anime, but only if it is either strictly fun (no unnecessary drama like here) or when it actually meets with great writing (like with Konosuba and Gintama). So, TLDR: If you want some cute, but utterly pointless, confusing and straight up bad stroy about friendship or you just want to immerse yourself in a mobile game adaptatinm that is actually watchable, you should watch this (but please leave your brain in a safe place in the meantime, otherwise you will be prone to an aneurysm). The fine next to the six in the score is more of a fine just leave me alone, than a this is some fine gourmet shit, but there are way worse shit floating out there in this toilet of a world, so at least this anime makes it a bit better place.
