The mauling of a vicious, prehistoric-sized African elephant makes international headlines. Featured in reports of the aftermath, the sole survivor of one of the animal's rampages attributes its death to a lone, unarmed man—unknowingly describing Yuujirou Hanma, nicknamed the "Ogre" and often labeled as the "strongest creature on Earth." Elsewhere, Yuujirou's 18-year-old son Baki spars with an equally formidable beast: a praying mantis. Content with his training and determined to overtake his father, Baki abducts American President George Bosch to begin his plans. This leads to his deliberate imprisonment at the infamous Arizona State Prison where Oliva Biscuit resides—the strongest man in the United States and an inmate allowed to leave of his own volition. Hoping to gauge his abilities, Baki challenges Oliva to a fight; but Oliva is preoccupied with his eccentric rival, Jun Guevaru. Known as the "Second," he is the only other prisoner to receive special treatment from the guards. Bewildered yet intrigued, Baki learns about his fellow inmates and tolerates the hellish conditions of prison life while waiting for an opportunity to present itself. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

When I watch Baki, I get an instant pump. When I see Yujiro, I am filled with determination. Legends say roiders become natties after witnessing such a pure form of art.. or vice versa? I don't remember... Anyway, words are not enough to describe it. TMS Entertainment did an outstanding job in adapting a manga that most humans would normally not be able to comprehend; they actually did it justice. Itagaki-sensei is a real chad.Any lifter with self-respect must absolutely watch it. And then read it. 10/10 DYELs should stay away. FUAAARK! Nuff said, imma go to the gym and deadlift now, see ya.
Well the Baki's sequel just came in and let me tell u people it s fuckin awesome , just great Love the characters , love the plotline . there aren't that many fights in this one and some characters weren't even shown in this sequel like the Chinese guy who stopped the bike with on hand and Baki's girlfriend. Baki is all grown up now and is no longer an amateur. He is so unexpected at times which is so cool. The insect fight was little fucked up in my opinion but at the same time there's nothing too unreal in BAKI he is more strong morebadass GEORGE BUSH kept embarrassing himself every time . the addition of the new character was good but he wasn't strong enough as i expected . Oliver turned out to be a bitch for me . my respect for him is a little bit fucked right now. Big daddy is chilling as always . Just watch it people . its gorgeous
Hanma Baki : Son of Ogre Review Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre felt like a training arc for the protagonist of the series beginning with a prologue introducing a elementary school student to the ethics of Baki's shadow boxing technique and his training narration. The sectional prologue doesn't bring anything new apart from Baki establishing his dominance as a fragment of Mohammad Ali (EP1 18:31 his stance is that of Mohammad Ali's stance over Sonny Liston when fighting Iron Michael) and his rival Yujiro Hanma's dominance on a prehistoric sized elephant. Further throughout the season, we follow Baki Hanma gathering experience to fight against his rivalby arbitrarily forcing himself into Arizona state Prison to fight against Unchained. In my opinion I feel the series isn't what it was before, the content is lackluster and the characters seem to tank hits from each other more than actually fighting. The slideshow explanation of each opponents strengths (like insisting the force of one character's punch is the equivalent to 400 megatons of TNT) defeats the purpose of having the characters (such as Unchained and Guevaro) duke it out to the death. Each character's background were interesting and logical and made the fighting more appealing but it doesn't take 3 episodes to find out who's will is stronger. I feel that the background could have been materialized better but I still appreciate not omitting the shroud of character development that this season had. That being said, Baki isn't true Baki without its overexerting, masculine art style. The quality of the animation and art style has been maintained which is at least a positive note this season. The notorious, iconic Baki confrontation sound track has been revived this season also which was surprising to see during the confrontation of Unchained and Baki inside the solitary confinement cell. Overall, I wasn't expecting a season like this to show up out of nowhere but I am still rooting for Baki Hanma in the upcoming arcs. The series still has its appeals which is why I keep coming back in hope that it improves and less 'talk', more 'action' is induced.
I’ve been waiting for this ever since I heard about it and I can say that I was satisfied. It isn’t as fight heavy as the previous seasons but it does the job. We had Olivia vs Baki, Oliva vs J G-something (I honestly can’t remember his last name),and Baki vs Mantis. The animation was anything special but it wasn’t bad. It’s the standard Baki animation. It’s filled with more of the after picture movement thing. You know when they show you what happened what would happen if they actually animated the whole thing. These twelve episodes were more character heavy with interesting witty dialogues. Iliked how Baki was this season, like he still has his personality but there’s something different about his energy. Like his confidence is through the roof this season and I love it. There’s really not that much to say about it but I had a good time. I loved all the characters that were introduced and the ones we learned/saw more of. If you’re thinking about watching it, do it!
I watched the original Baki the Grappler (2001) back in 2015 and I've watched everything this series has to offer. Before I proceed with this review, I want to give you an overview of the scores I gave to each title so you can understand better if my review will resonate with you or not. Baki the Grappler (TV) - 7/10 Baki the Grappler (OVA) - 7/10 Grappler Baki: Saidai Tournament-hen - 6/10 Baki: Most Evil Death Row Convicts Special - 6/10 Baki - 6/10 Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen - 5/10 So, as you can see the enjoyment I've been getting from Baki animes as time goes on is decreasing andin my opinion Netflix continues to drag Baki through the mud. Visuals: 1) the animation is very inconsistent, specially noticeable when throws stupid CGI in the mix. 2) anatomically incorrect body designs which shatter my immersion Sound: without being a masterpiece it's the best aspect of this season Characters and story: 1) This season seems to be one of those shows made by incredibly insecure dudes featuring themselves trying to be as macho as they can and failing miserably at it but without being aware of how pathetic they are. I'm so masculine, I'd rather spend time rolling around with half naked dudes all the time and come up with ridiculous excuses to do it more often. I'm so masculine I love golden showers between men. Even the script is cringe. 2) No character development whatsoever 3) you'll see plenty of references to real life events and real life people (Che Guevara, George Bush, JFK's assassination, Mike Tyson, etc.) to try and bring immersion and realism to this season but everything is so over the top ridiculous that it's laughable in a bad way. You'll see someone get physically injured because their shadowboxing became too realistic (shadowboxing is fighting air while imagining there's someone fighting you), someone else shooting a few strands of hair at someone and ripping their eardrums with it and plenty of other stupid BS while a random (yes, random because it changes every few moments) temporary character narrates what's going on, sometimes giving science trivia as if whatever's going on could be plausible. 4) Most fights, which should be the main focus of this season as there's literally no character development as I've said previously, don't happen in real time. What I mean is that these actions sequences are constantly interrupted by unnamed temporary and random characters narrating whatever is happening when we're not watching the actual fights. Imagine you're watching a movie and every couple of seconds you get a close up of a random person telling you about the movie you're trying to watch in the 1st place. My expectations were already low because in my opinion Netflix hasn't done anything remotely good for the Baki franchise but they managed to surprise me. However, I can compliment Netflix for one thing: subtitles. For the 1st time the official subtitles were accurate, except for one small occasion where the characters said 100,000 calories and the subtitle read 10,000 calories instead. All things considered, I hated watching this. It gets a 3/10 from me.
There are a few minor spoilers in this review The series is a continuation of the previous series “BAKI”. It starts where Baki wilfully makes his way into a maximum-security prison called the “Black Pentagon” to fight Oliva as a stepping stone to defeating his father, Yujiro Hanma. Story (8/10) I find some complaints that there was no Baki vs Yujiro in this season. First, to answer this, Baki was never just about Baki. If the story was only focused on Baki vs Yujiro, it would soon be repetitive and tedious. Baki series is known to be exceptional at building tension between two fighters. The more important thefight is to the story, the longer the build-up. For instance, the mantis fight introduces a technique that would later play an integral part in his future battles (beyond this season). His ability to mimic certain animals and their movements to perform techniques that cannot be attained by conventional methods. Hence, why the mantis saga is a good starting point to introduce this concept. With each arc of this series, Itagaki focuses on different characters and their development. This time it’s about Oliva and his ideals and reasons for attaining strength. Often making comparisons to Baki as to what it means to be free or ‘unchained’. For instance, status, control, and worldly pleasures were major factors that made Oliva believe that he had complete freedom over anyone. However, it was also a dependency on these extraneous factors that made him rather ‘chained’. We begin to see this at the end of his fight with Guevara. However, it was explored even more when he develops as a character during the final fight of this season, especially when he decides to lay his ego low push himself to the limits. One issue I find this season was the pacing in between the fights. I do not think that the explanations were bad by any means. However, there are times when there were repetitions that drag out the explanations even more than they should be. The art style and animation (7/10) The line art was exceptional, and the detail was exactly on point with the manga. The character designs were also a lot better, and the expressions were portrayed amazingly. When compared to the previous seasons, it was a massive upgrade. In terms of the animation, there was an improvement in this season. However, they implemented a ‘peaks over consistency’ approach for some fights. A drop in animation quality can be seen midway through but it makes up for it during the final fight. In my opinion, it would’ve been a better approach if they prioritised more consistent animation even if it meant a downgraded art style. However, I understand why they would choose this approach because Baki has a complex art style that is difficult to animate. Overall (8/10) This season was overall very good but some flaws need to be improved on. This season tops the previous seasons and I hope that the animation team continues to improve. Especially considering the upcoming arc is one of the best of Baki.
Welcome to the fifth season of this series, which is the most bizarre and unreal that I have seen about a fight between son and father, now without further ado let's begin the review: --------------------------------------------------------------- May contain "slight" spoilers --------------------------------------------------------------- STORY (more or less summarized): The plot revolves around how Baki prepares again to face the Ogre, from unreal shadow-boxing with legendary boxers or a giant insect, to kidnapping a very "important" person in the US, to ask that he be sent where he is. the "second strongest man in the world" Unchained and thus defeat him. ART (and animation): Do you remember the CGI of PS1 from the 2018season, or that the necks of the characters practically did not exist? because I remember it, and it amazes me how it manages to improve the animation and the design of the characters with each passing season, it is simply beautiful to see. And that despite being a series produced by Netflix (we all know what happens with this demon). Although I must also say that at the beginning of the series it is not very good (Baki vs a CGI insect) and some scenes throughout the story that are only slides, but despite that, it does not disappoint me at any time. SOUND: This created that it is one of the things in which he never manages to disappoint me at all, the voices, the soundtrack, are beautiful to listen to, especially Baki's seiyu, Shimazaki Nobunaga, you can clearly feel the feelings that he wants to express from the character he plays. Speaking now of the soundtrack during the fights, it reminded me of the fights of the 2018 season, they fit completely with the atmosphere and tension of that moment. In the previous season I had been disappointed, but in this season she made me shut my ass and made me listen to her carefully. CHARACTER: I think the characters in this story are something like the pillars of this one, like for example JoJo's, that if they waste them, the series ends up being unbearable shit. I am amazed at how great Baki can be as a protagonist, how he learns and grows or how Mr. Oliva can become so SIM-, I say loving towards Maria. Although I must say that what caught my attention the most is the appearance of Jun Guevaru (clearly a tribute to the guerrilla and revolutionary Che Guevara) who seeks the independence of the island from him through the "bare fist" revolution. ENJOYMENT: I really enjoyed this third part a lot, and that is why I highly recommend it (in case you are hesitating to see it or not) there are also some things to keep in mind when watching this series, and what they are; not take it seriously and less apply common sense to it, and if you are going to do that, better not look at it and go do something else. To conclude, we are already entering the climax of this bizarre story, the long-awaited fight, Baki vs Yuujiro, which... will not happen yet, BUT do not be discouraged, because this season offers us excellent fights full of tension. PS: Thank you very much if you read to the end, and I am sorry if you do not understand much, it is that English is not my native language and I am very bad with it. HASTA LA PRÓXIMA!!!!!!!!!!
Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre is one of my favorite manga and this anime is the first part to the manga. This season of Baki was alright, less action than the other seasons and to be honest, not as good. This season is lackluster in fights and has a lot of iffy story writing. I do enjoy the overall arc and can see next season being way better. This season is just not that entertaining and has more "story" to it. Lets be honest, no one watches Baki for story. People watch Baki for the memes and the fights. This arc is really just anexposition arc to the Son of Ogre storyline. The overall edgyness to this season is very cringe and hard to watch at times with very slow dialogue and progression. It is worth watching for the overall link to the main story, however do not expect much. The last fight is pretty good, simply because it is the title fight for this part. The dialogue and history telling is still enjoyable, but tedious at times. I also think the manga does a better job at presenting the events of this arc better. To finish, this season is really worth binging as fast as possible for the sake of your own brain cells.
Baki: Son of Ogre By now I have almost no idea what to put in my Baki reviews, thanks to the relatively thin content of the seasons. Although this one has probably been the best season of Baki so far, it possessed the same problems as any other. It's just another oversized training arc for Baki with no real buildup. Honestly, I found Olivia far more interesting than anything else that happened in this arc. The animations are again reasonably improved, but not enough to call them above average. Further, a big heavy problem is the slow pacing. This season could have easily been shortened by2-3 episodes without losing any content. And the fights are extremely monotonous. In the meantime, this show is just a freeze-frame battle where everyone pretends to be superior until suddenly one of them flies over. Before this season came out, I've seen better manga animations on Youtube that make the fight between Baki and Olivia look much better than in the anime. Among other things, the narrators are pure poison to the anime. While Olivia and Baki are fighting, you seriously hear several minutes of the guardians babbling? Good grief, the pacing was already sinking into the ground anyway. At least this season was again pretty badass and showed everything Baki is known for, from the positive to the negative. Enjoyment 6/10
I don't know what season number it is but hey. New season of baki, I was a little disappointed I thought there would be more fights from the protagonist. And I feel that they made me go back in the evolution that I had had, now he became more fearful, I don't know, I liked him more because he was arrogant and fought with everyone. I missed seeing more baki fights, I wanted to see him hitting everyone. It is still appreciated that it is animated in 2d and not in 3d like the previous seasons. That they gave you cancer to see them buthey. I recommend it if you saw baki there is nothing more to say.
This is the best of the modern Baki stuff, but is brought down by the series worse flaws. Explanation after explanation drags the pacing, especially toward the end. However, we got ridiculous characters and interactions. Baki himself is at his best self in this arc. He is cocky with his rivals and kind to the little guy, which is especially refreshing after the last exchange with Mohammad Ali Jr. Biscuit Oliva is back as the main villain. Baki and father are messing with President George Bush. One guys fighting style is just being 3 guys. It is a fun time.
Imagine if JoJo's had a cutscene/flashback everytime a character reveals a new ability/ uses a odd technique in battle - That's Baki. My major critiques are precisely that. If you can endure the cringe techniques and needlessly long flashbacks then you'll enjoy this. If not you'll hate it. Anyway, if you didn't skip any seasons until now you're already used to it. The power scaling is also pretty irregular, the already weird realism keeps losing itself along the way. The "real life events" that happen in the anime are also pretty random. But what is done right is done right, and the buildup along the season is as legendaryas Baki gets. If you enjoyed Baki until now there's no reason why you won't enjoy this one aswell.
As a manga reader, I already knew what to expect. In fact, this "review" is for other fellow manga readers who want to know if the 3rd season was just as badly animated as the previous two. Good news, the animation and art is great. It isn't top tier OVA stuff, but it's surprisingly better than most other new anime releases. So if you enjoyed reading the prison arc, absolutely give this season a watch, you won't be disappointed. My only criticism is Oliva's voice acting. In the manga scenes where he shouts at the top of his lungs, you can feel his anger. Inthe anime, the actor is barely even trying. Other than that little nitpick, it's a good adaption.
Personally when I found of their was going to be a sequel of the Baki series, i was not to Happy in the sense, that I wanted them to continue with Baki series and just make another season. However After watching the Anime, the first season of Hanma Baki: Song of Ogre, I can say I was happy. However my expectation for this show is very high, so I gave it and 8 out of 10 but was suspecting a 10 out of 10. What I miss about the other Baki Show on Netflix, is it has a wide range of Characters and more fights,However what Hanma Baki : Son of Ogre does right is it gives more of a story, and is a little easier to follow, due to less characters, it mainly focuses on Baki and Biscut Oliva. and Ogre. Which is good, in the sense its easier to get more of a character development. The Anime itself is a lot like the other Baki series, and the fights are pretty good, but less than the other Baki show. The sound and music sounded more or less the same to me as well from the other series. All in ALL its a good Anime, and would say to give it a watch, even if you never seen Baki before. If you are a follower of Baki still watch it, because it will be enjoyable.
This season was bitch slap in face of the fans who waited for this much-awaited season. This season should've been about how Baki trains and prepare himself after Yuji sees him as a worthy opponent, but we got only episodes two, ten. eleven and twelve which really focused on Baki other than that it was just plot and story which didn't interest me. I feel insulted for waiting for this season and getting this shitshow instead. I hope they do a better job next season focusing on their main characters which are BAKI HAMMA and YUJIRO HAMMA, I was really disappointed in this season.
BIG MEN DOING MAN SHIT is a mantra by which you should live and die. Baki is the pinnacle of that and I've loved every second of it's muscular macho bullshit thus far. However, this season is where business REALLY picks up! Firstly, the animation quality has gone even higher than before and the CGI is nowhere to be seen. Nice! The music and voice acting hit as hard as the grapplers themselves, as usual, and the pacing is awesome. Despite being only 12 episodes, this felt a lot more full and eventful compared to even the first new Baki anime! This season has probably thebest opening so far too! Storywise, this is some of the most badass stuff we've seen in this series so far. Baki himself is back in the MC driver's seat, which is great, love that! And now, the final showdown approaches. Baki has grown massive balls befitting of a Hanma and it's time to get to work. What unfolds is a long tirade of manly ridiculousness that needs to be seen to be believed. The tension has never been higher. Just know, all pretense of realism is long dead now and macho nonsense will live forever. Rest assured, the fights deliver hard and each episode will keep you glued to your seat, and also yearning to lift weights the moment it's over. To go into more details would mean to go into spoilers, so I'm not gonna do that. All I'm gonna say is START BAKI NOW! Go back to the old anime and work your way up to here. Every season is worth it and is tons of fun. All the events have been (body)building to these moments and you can feel the big crescendos approaching. Even beyond that though, on a purely superficial level, this is just an amazingly fun action anime that delivers exactly on what you'd expect. You will grow a second penis from this experience. TLDR: What if Stone Ocean but with big men and violence against communists. 11/10
(This Review is created by somebody who watched this season out of order from the rest) If you like hitting the gym or Boxing, this anime is for you. This anime is about the son of an orge, Baki, who goes to the Arizona State Prison to have a 1v1 with America's strongest man in order to prove himself worthy of fighting and to get stronger. The animation quality is good and the art is unique as it puts more emphasis on definition of the face and body on the characters The story for this season is made quite well, and it combines humor and fighting togetherto showcase Baki's journey to defeat America's strongest man. Be aware, there is a lot of urinating randomly on people in the anime, and I still do not understand why it's in there. My only negative is that they make some of the fight scenes turn into a big yapfest with the side characters explaining what they see in the fight. It made me a lil bored and affected the pacing a bit, not its not that big of a deal. Overall i loved the story but the story at times can be a little weird, giving it a light 8.
I mean what can I say about this, its more Baki, if you're this far in you know what you're getting. While this one has a bit less focus on side characters as the first series and focuses more on Baki it still retains the same badass goofyness in its fights and buildups. While these types of anime aren't my go to its nice to watch and blow off some steam every now and then and get a good laugh. Some of the scenes were hilarious, but it also did have some side moments with his father which were mostly irrelevant and felt just likebuild up for something that wasn't even in this season.
This is a decent season of anime. At least it was only 12 episodes long, but it certainly had the weight of a long season of anime, and I don't necessarily mean that as a compliment. Baki Hanma (or Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre) is a silly and ridiculous anime, but it still hits in just the right way. The art style is nothing to write home about, but at least it's not trash. The story and the way it plays out are what can be considered funny, but if you're in a silly, goofy mood, Baki Hanma will resonate with you. It's mostly goofy, but can have really inspiring moments of grandeur. Baki seriously endures so much for just a high schooler.
