After a fatal encounter with a truck, Takafumi Takaoka's uncle, Yousuke "Ojisan" Shibazaki, lies comatose for 17 years. When he finally regains consciousness, Ojisan begins to ramble in a foreign tongue and reveals that he had been transported to a magical world called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle's claims as nonsense until an incantation makes a cup of water hover in the air. In a flash of brilliance, the pair creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan's magical abilities. The responsibility now falls on Takafumi's shoulders to acquaint Ojisan with everything that has transpired during his absence, including getting him up to speed with the internet, new technology, and surprisingly, the outcome of the '90s console war—the result of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. With Ojisan's wisdom from his other world experiences, they grow their YouTube channel and tackle online comments and trolls. The journey of this uncle-nephew duo promises to be anything but conventional. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

A gloomy boy glances at his phone before crossing the street, unyielding to and unaware of the truck speeding towards him. Experience has led viewers to believe that the boy is fated to live on in another world, blessed with special powers and surrounded by sexy ladies. The scene cuts away, only to show the boy unharmed and the truck innocent. Alas, this story isn’t about the boy. It’s about his previously comatose uncle, who actually *did* get hit by a truck 17 years prior (and experienced all the aforementioned shit). That motherfucker is awake now. And oh boy does he have a story totell… What Isekai Ojisan does best is subverting the viewers’ expectations in a genuinely amusing way. Every few months, I hear something about an isekai that “breaks the mold”, only to usually see for myself that it relies on a cheap gimmick to set itself apart from its predecessors. Isekai Ojisan, in my opinion, is that rare isekai that actually does break the mold. Because its premise thrives on the retrospective of having “finished” the isekai part already, the show makes no explicit effort to avoid the usual tropes. It embraces them and cleverly uses them to set up its jokes. I’d be exaggerating if I said Isekai Ojisan is the funniest isekai I’ve ever seen, but I simply can’t get enough of its dry, meta humor. Paired with a relatively drab setting and a daffy soundtrack (complete with the goofy ukulele bend), the timing and delivery of the uncle’s lines are just awesome. He manages to look extremely incel-y but has the most dawg-esque personality you could ask for. Despite being infuriatingly dense, unintelligent, and kind of creepy, that man is certainly the star of this season. In fact, the livelihood of the show thrives on this fact, making use of the uncle’s utter stupidity and inability to read social cues to set up funny and interesting situations. Though the rest of the cast is relatively flat (even the uncle can’t be called dynamic), they’re all quirky and fun to watch. Considering that the main focus of the work is on its comedy, any and all lack of development is completely passable in my opinion. On a similar note, I would comment on how the “story” is lacking (with little of note having really happened), but considering that the aim of the work is to narrate a chill retrospective on the isekai shabang, I see no outstanding issues there. The art style is very attractive in its grainy feel, and it manages to capture the isekai action + slice of life comedy well in their respective parts. The animation itself is relatively conservative, saving sakuga for the punchlines, magic spells, and heavy action scenes in the show. While it’s unfortunate that the overall product’s visuals weren’t more fluid, I think that whatever we got is certainly up to par at the least. If you want to watch an isekai but you’re tired of the usual tropes (and… setting?), this show is perfect. While maintaining the same you-know-I-know feel that isekai demand in their setups, Isekai Ojisan breaks the mold in a mundane but fun manner.
Oh man, this might be the anime that is noteworthy of the worst production values of all time. Not the way that the anime was presented, but of the behind-the-scenes horror that's just as, if not even worse than some of the AniManga industry's corporations (i.e. Aniplex) with the outsourcing production mayhem and the "We blame China for COVID" PR disaster that had the show delayed numerous times. Plus, the fact that this was ONLY released on Netflix, and you can already tell that Isekai Ojisan, while undoubtedly a great show, is the pinnacle of unprecedented levels of a disaster in the making. The term "Isekai"has been around for more than a decade since the days when SAO made huge waves to make it known as the pioneer batch to kickstart the trend of adaptations that we'll come to see in forthcoming years, with a slew of similar shows like it that more often than not, are copy-paste iterations of one another with no creativity to them whatsoever, creating a drought of subpar mediocrity. It's the rare few that are the exception of their own thing, utilizing the well-known tropes and executing in a way that feels fresh, and these shows are why Isekai still has a chance to be discovered of new gems to come, such as the case of this anime right here: mangaka Hotondoshindeiru's Isekai Ojisan. Truck-kun, death that transports you to the other world, fantasy tropes with magic, Isekai Ojisan embraces these tropes to a degree. But it's the execution itself that makes this show special, because this is the case for 34-year-old Yousuke Shibazaki, otherwise better known as just Uncle (Ojisan). The uncle of nephew Takafumi Takaoka, who went to visit him after he had woken up from a coma after 17 years, of which this time was spent delving to the fantasy world of Granbahamal. Having just woke up, all Uncle could mention was magic incantations to be used both during his time in the fantasy world and in real life freely. The downside however, is that Uncle has an unattractive appearance that barely changed since the time he transferred to the fantasy world, being frequently mistaken for an orc and treated extremely poorly by the other world's inhabitants, so far as such to the point where he had to continuously wipe his own memories to maintain his sanity. The most unique thing about him is that Uncle's a diehard SEGA fan, using every inch of his know-how of classic games on the Genesis/Mega Drive and Saturn consoles to use for strategical purposes, but also being devastated that Sony and Nintendo are the dominant forces in the modern day where SEGA is nothing but its former shell. Yet, everything that Uncle has going for him, the nephew Takafumi has been sacrificing his entire life waiting for his return, and when he does, he did the one thing that is quite the unexpected: open up a YouTube channel to log of Uncle's "Let's Playthrough" adventures of the fantasy world, and also through his magic ability. How uncanny is that, though I suppose this is to be expected for a college kid who has little to no funds, riding off of a rather nice apartment that has limitations because of bills he needs to pay to sustain his daily living, which Uncle is able to provide the source of easy revenue. Right from the get-go, Isekai Ojisan means business, and I mean, business...in the comedy sense. Uncle is such a comedic trope, embracing his autonomy and knowing how to act in the many situations he's been dealt with. But when it comes to romance, he has an aro (a.k.a aromantic) personality, which is an umbrella term used by people who don’t typically experience romantic attraction. If you consider the time that he was beset to another world, that will be 1997, at a time where Eva a.k.a Neon Genesis Evangelion just wrapped up its initial season, and with the influential anime containing the now well-known terms like tsundere, it's apt that Uncle isn't really in the know about things like love and romance, and this is trickled down to the people that he met in the fantasy world. Starting from Suzailgiererzegalnelvzegilreagranzelga Elga (or better known as Tsundere Elf), she is the princess of the elves, the first person whom Uncle rescued after saving her from a dragon, and immediately develops a crush on him. Though with the "tsundere" term not being well-known at the time, Uncle misinterprets this as basic harassment onto him and takes it upon himself to rectify her behaviour. Despite this, Tsundere Elf is kind, always seen defending Uncle against slander and blackmail, which causes close lovey-dovey moments between the two that the mutual love will never be realized. This is the same for Mabel Laybelle, the holder of the mythical Ice Sword capable of defeating the Flame Dragon. Remember that Uncle defeated a dragon to save Tsundere Elf from trouble? Yep, it's this same dragon that Mabel was supposed to defeat, taken down by Uncle with his magic powers. Since her only motivation was defeated by someone else that she didn't expect to see, she becomes a reclusive NEET, encouraged by Uncle to develop her inner desires. In the fantasy world, you can't forget about the Hero party trope, and this comes in the form of priestess Alicia Edelsia, swordsman Edgar and berserker Raiga, where Uncle once accidentally helped them to complete difficult quests, only to backtrack because he felt that it would tarnish the effort of cheating against the system and wants them to gain like they always should. Honestly, Uncle has no short of characters that exact tropes, but are also well-written for its comedic stance that knows no limits. And in the real world, this is brought to Takafumi having his own set of issues: coming off from a broken family, with parental divorce because of the dealings with their comatose Uncle for 17 years, only that once he comes back to life, it serves as his route of escapism. Though he may be very invested in the girls that pop across his Uncle's life, he has one going for him: the childhood friend Sumika Fujimiya, though he's oblivious that the reunion with her having a crush on him, obstinately forgetting the fact that the once bullied child was at the peril of her hands when they were young. I guess you could call this trait "like Uncle, like nephew" because though Takafumi isn't as dense as his Uncle and being able to identify the traits of romance throughout the fantasy world's journey, towards Fujimiya ironically, he isn't treating her like one. For sure, this journey between Uncle and nephew is anything but conventional, and hell, it makes for an interesting Isekai that stands out amongst the pack of the generic and trashiness of copy-paste works. This goes the same for the choice of the studio, which is a relatively new face in the AniManga industry: AtelierPontdarc. For reference, the manga has a very distinctive art style, that to replicate it onto the small screen proving a challenging feat at best, and the decision to go for new-and-unproven staff would result to be both a blessing and a curse for the entire anime as a whole. If you were to criticize the animation, just even a teensy bit, yes, I agree it looks like a PowerPoint slide show, but that is where the charm of the show lies: its simplicity, backed by such strong visuals that at the very least, does the manga some justice. But if you are to criticize the anime overall, you need not look further than the production staff team. Such as is with director Shigeki Kawai, this is his first full-on directorial role after being episode directors for A-1 Pictures produced shows like SAO, Darling in the FranXX and Blend S to name a few, and bear in mind that it was a full drought of nearly 4 years since his episode directorial on SAO: Alicization. Kenta Ihara being scriptwriter-cum-series composer at least sets the bar of being relevant in the times of how the anime should be paced, and for that, it's a decent job. Kazuhiro Oota is the character design-cum-animation director veteran, so anything he touches turns into gold (as is the case for the recents like Re:Zero Season 2 and Dororo). Last but not least, I need not mention the brillance of Kenichiro Suehiro being the music composer, he has been absolutely killing shows with some of the best OST music in recent times a.k.a. Golden Kamuy, to the most recent Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!. But, paying close to director Shigeki Kawai, that is where the anime drops its balls hard, citing COVID complications to hide the fact that Isekai Ojisan was to an extreme extent, incomplete even before the episodes were given the green light to be aired on TV. Whether the episodes were outsourced or done in-house, this is definitely a blueprint and a warning advice to producers working around the clock to rush and get deadlines done within the eleventh hour. It definitely set the tone for us the audience, that to experience a unique show like this and follow it weekly, would not take a mere seasonal 3 months, but drag it out for thrice the time allowed: 9 months. That to me, is just lackadaisical commitment to think that anime production, at least to the production staff, is mere child's play, or is it that they REALLY faced unforeseeable circumstances, which likely wasn't the case. The music is rather decent, I would say, with Mayu Maeshima and Yuka Iguchi's OP and ED put together. But where it shines is how the credits are portrayed: the OP is a call-back to the Sega Saturn console, from the start-up boot sequence to the games included and shown, which speaks volumes about the Saturn's large and well-thought-out game library in Japan (as opposed to the North America and Europe counterparts), while the ED is just a mesmerizing scene of a night view with stars in the sky. Most people, millennials and older, would definitely recognize that the SFX used were all sound chimes used in the Saturn's home splash screen, which adds to the sense of Uncle's nostalgia of the time that SEGA regained a foothold on the console wars against Nintendo, NEC (with its PC Engine / Turbografx-16) and Sony at the time where the Mega Drive was D.O.A, and the Saturn reigned supreme until the PlayStation rolled around. Nevertheless, this is a cool touch that makes Isekai Ojisan really stand out for its jab at the Isekai and fantasy themes quite well. But still, at the end of it all, I still have to chime this fact home: if a show's basically unfinished, even to the point where episodes are literally chased to completion days before their actual TV airing, might as well delay the shows to give more breathing space towards the people who are working their damnedest to bring them to the small screen. But that's the bread-and-butter of the AniManga industry, and it's sad that there's no changing this exploitative industry of its shortcomings. With that said, despite its limited release on Netflix, please give Isekai Ojisan a try. It's great Isekai/fantasy fuel for comedic entertainment, only beheaded at the expense of absurdly poor mismanagement.
Well, I don't really watch much of the Isekai genre because I find most of them usually very boring, but this one is on another level. First of all, it's a comedy with very clever writing. It's a story about uncle that was transported to another world, but he wasn't all powerful at first.... he was considered as an orc in that world and was sold for a 3 coins that is equal to 0,3 yen (I don't really remember the exact price, but you got it). Further more, many funny things continued to happening with him and after 17 years he was transported back tothe real life, and he...... yeah... can use magic in the real world, but he need to use Japanese now to make it work instead of the language that he was used in the Isekai world. He got along with his nephiew and now they are living in the apartment together , yeah, not in the magic world with garem. That is pretty much it. You may actually wonder how is that possible, if he is in real world now, what's the point of making the anime of him being there, there are nothing interesting and you are wrong there. He still can use magic in our world, so that's not it, right? But don't give a high hopes, it's not like he's going to make some baddass stuff with his magic powers, he's just a normal 30 years uncle, who was playing videogames his entire life after all. But how is that supposed to be interesting, you may wonder. Well, you need to see that in person, it's not like I'm used to laugh at anime at all, but this one was able to make me laugh several times, you need to give it a try..... One of the best Isekai anime for my opinion after all.
In a nutshell, Isekai Ojisan is mid. Is it good? Comedically, yes, it is. Is it good beyond that? No, its mid. I've seen praises like " As good as Konosuba or even better". Just no, get off the pipe. I've seen people say the same thing about trash anime like Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu. Everyone wants the next Konosuba, I get it, but no isekai has even come remotely close to dethroning it, comedically speaking. Did I enjoy Isekai Ojisan, yes, but like so many other isekai lately, it goes nowhere, it has zerostakes. There are no baddies, it's just story telling for 13 episodes, okay cool, when did anime become so absent of basic plotline that adventure anime should have, like Konosuba has, like Slime has, like Re Zero has. The powerhouses of this genre are on top because they actually have basic story lines that drive the show forward. Isekai Ojisan would be so much better if it just gave us something to care about. By the end, we were just going through the motions to finish it and be done with it. That's bad story telling. Animation 8/10 - Unique to a degree, and beautifully drawn at times, with no CGI I believe? If so, very hard to notice. Mabel scenes were peak. Sound 7/10 - Decent OP, forgettable ED, with good voice acting. Story 5/10 - Beyond episodic storytelling, there is no plot. It's an uncle watching TV of his past with his nephew and the nephews' friend for 13 episodes. Characters 8/10 - Really enjoyable characters through and through, but without something at stake, Mabel, Sui, and Uncle are wasted IMO. Enjoyment 7/10 - Enjoyed the comedy, but the series as a whole fell flat due to a lack of any story development. At the end of the day, the series gets a pass, and will likely be enjoyable to a wide swath of people. If you want more than comedy through, you might be disappointed.
Isekai Ojisan Do you like or dislike Isekai? Are you a fan of comedies? Do you want to laugh at nonsensical and stupid jokes? Are you partially familiar with Sega? Then this anime is exactly what you have been looking for. This anime is immensely simple but manages to convince with its straightforward humor and insanely stupid scenes. Although I was skeptical at first, this anime proved me wrong. Of course, it should be said that this is entirely comedy, there is no development or story. Each episode consists of 2 different stories of Uncle, which he can project through his memory television. In this wayhe shows the other 2 protagonists', stories from the Isekai world, leaving the 3 of them to act merely as commentators. What makes the whole thing however amusing, is that his experiences have been simply bizarre and questionable. Of course, if you don't have or don't want anything to do with comedies, misunderstandings, or silly humor, you shouldn't watch this anime. [Story 2] The protagonist was in a coma for a decade and finally woke up, only for the rest of his relatives to realize that he had been in an isekai world. Since Uncle Dio could keep his abilities, he was able to use them from then on to launch an unsuccessful YouTube career. With his nephew and his nephew's best friend, they spent their daily lives watching scenes from his past. With the blinding desire to know what Uncle Dio experienced in his world after Jotaro had Isekaid him. But the expectations were completely shattered since his adventure is about the opposite of what could be expected to be heroic or proud. This is all that happens in the anime, however, it was also exactly what was needed. [Characters 6] At first, I expected a pseudo neet comedy, which made me especially worried about the protagonist. However, once again I was wrong. The protagonist Oujisan (his real name is revealed in episode 12), is a relatively average loser who exists beyond all social values. He plays games 24/7, breathing only video games and manga. However, due to his lack of social skills, he doesn't have much of a problem talking to people unless it comes to a debate. His biggest weakness, however, is being human. Since he doesn't understand most human standards, he is a walking misunderstanding. In our world, he would end up as a sex offender. But it is these ongoing misunderstandings that make Dio Brando so amusing. Sumika and Takafumi can practically be grouped as they both have relatively similar personalities and are just commentators. They are the ones who watch his memory films and comment on corresponding events and happenings with their terrific expertise. They are not too great characters for a comedy, however, they work very well for this setting. Elf, Alicia, and Mable are the 3 girls Oujisan met in the new world. Of course, all 3 based on misunderstandings to expand his harem. Honestly, even though they are practically empty shells, they had massive comedy potential, especially Mable. The elf was the typical Tsundere, but a more positive one. Alicia is a puppy and thus the typical naive character (who was comically treated like a puppy). And Mable is practically one of the funniest female comedy characters I've seen. Her logic, self-preservation instincts, and actions have just been delightfully amusing. This is the kind of person you would only want to have in your circle of friends to make you feel better about yourself. [Animations 5 / Music 6] The animations offer massively little variety and are mostly limited to just one room. And even there, they are average. There is a decent fight scene every 2 episodes that don't look bad, but these are only scattered moments of glamour. The intro, outro, and especially soundtracks were relatively decent. For a comedy, I expected less. [Conclusion 7] Oujisan is a comedy that is not to everyone's taste, which is hard to do when it comes to humor. However, if it is something that appeals to you personally, then it should be given a chance. Undoubtedly one of the better comedies you can find, but requires an average knowledge of old-school, Sega, and Isekai. Even though the amount of fan service was overkill for me at times, I'm glad to have watched the anime. [Enjoyment 7]
This anime is a great combination of comedy, fantasy, and ecchi genres. It has a lot of funny and fanservice scenes that will make you laugh out loud. The interactions between Takafumi and his uncle are amusing and entertaining. The uncle is a diehard SEGA fan who uses his gaming skills to fight in the other world, but he is also clueless about modern technology and culture. Takafumi is a normal guy who is interested in his uncle’s adventure and the girls he met in the other world, but he also has to deal with his own problems and feelings. The characters are all charming andunique, each with their own personality and backstory. The animation is colorful and smooth, and the voice acting is superb. The opening and ending songs are catchy and fit the mood of the show. I recommend this anime to anyone who likes isekai and ecchi genres. It is a fun and entertaining anime that will make you feel good and amazed by the power of uncle. If you are looking for a light-hearted and thrilling anime with a lot of humor and magic, you should definitely watch Uncle from Another World
Isekai has been a scourge on the anime landscape for some time now and sadly shows no signs of slowing down. I'm not a fan, as you can tell, as for me, in 90%+ of cases if the story was just a normal fantasy world without the intruder from another world, it would be better for it. Not to mention that so much of this crap gets made that it all just melds into this homogenous blob of off-brand European fantasy, generic protagonists and proposterous titles. So hearing that Isekai Ojisan exists as a comedy series that turns the genre on its head and doessomething completely different? Now you have my attention. So the premise is that Ojisan here gets put into a come and isekai'd to a fantasy world where he goes on some wacky adventures. However, he eventually wakes up from his coma and gets un-isekai'd. Because so much time has passed, he now has to get used to the changed world he finds himself in. And if that wasn't wacky enough, he actually gets to keep all the magical powers he obtained in the other world! And thus, shenanigans ensue. To put it shortly, this series is absolutely hilarious. My sides have hurt from laughing almost every episode. Whether parodying isekai tropes, fantasy tropes or just shoving in absolutely absurd jokes, the whole series just kept catching me off guard time and time again. The titular Ojisan is also voised by Takehito Koyasu, so if you ever wanted to hear Dio Brando talk about being a YouTuber and rant about obscure Sega games, now you can! Also, Ojisan's chemistry with all the characters in both worlds is very unique and never fails to deliver on quality comedy. The fact that he is denser than granite, socially inept and also very out of touch are played to great effect and never fail to amuse me. One thing I want to warn you is just to set your expectations accordingly. At times, you might be led to believe that there is some grand overarching plot with high stakes, hidden romance and ulterior motives at play. But there isn't and you thinking that is the point. Everything in this anime builds to the punchline of a joke, so don't go in expecting deep storytelling or some poignant statement on the current state of anime. Isekai Ojisan is here with one purpose and one purpose only - to make you laugh and it will, in my opinion at least, succeed greatly at that. Give it a watch, you won't regret it!
This is a story about an uncle who comes from another world according to the title. Reminding those who want to watch this anime, don't take the isekai in this story too seriously. Although there are tsundere characters, isekai characters, isekai powers, unique abilities, because some story is filled with humor. I like this kind of story because it is very entertaining and makes me laugh. I really enjoy it from the beginning to the end of the episode filled with funny stories, funny dialogues, funny characters. Main characters Ojisan and Takafumi managed to make me very entertained in every episode. some unexpected plots also make thestory even better. Other characters like Fujimiya, Elf, Mabel, Alicia and her party also help the story become more interesting and of course there are many funny things. Musics, OP / ED are also good. Overall, highly recommended for people looking for entertainment, laughter, and funny stories.
I think this is hilarious! I thought it would just be a typical isekai anime. It's not so badass or anything like that... it does have abit of slice of life vibe. However his stories of his past is what makes it interestingly funny. The MC is someone easily misunderstood, even though his face is creepy and the way he reacts is creepy like a perv that he might deserve a slap in the face. But those who know him, he is actually a kind and respectful person, more like an innocent geek who does things which he's not supposed to because he is reallydense. As the story progresses you start to see more of his past stories, which the mc made it sound like it was nothing, but it was actually a big deal. And when the mc made it sound like a big deal, it was actually nothing. You can actually feel the same as the side characters, the excitement and the disappointment of the MC. I watched this show by chance and ended up bingeing it till the end. Recommended, go give it a watch for a laugh.
This series was really fun, but the production schedule + airing dates for it were so drawn out and confusing that watching it as it came available caused me to forget about it completely so it's taken me until now to finally get around to finishing it. Of course that's not at all helped by this being a Netflix anime in the US, which is probably one of the last place I go to get my anime. Plot-wise I found this series pretty entertaining, but I was really hoping for a reunion between Uncle and his former Isekai pals towards the end somehow... we needto get Elf reverse isekai'd for him. The extremely niche sega jokes would probably be funnier if I knew what they were talking about, but good lord, there's limits to how under the radar you can go with your referential humor. All in all, very enjoyable series.
SEGA fans are a dedicated bunch. Even with their exit from console manufacturing, you'll still see dedicated SEGA fans who will passionately gush about their favorite games everywhere. Isekai Ojisan is a beautiful show borne from this passion, and, despite its many delays, manages to pull through with a stunningly fresh take on the Isekai genre. Isekai Ojisan is 2 shows in one. On one part, you get a pretty comfy Slice of Life on a SEGA fan, who Isekai'd before the Dreamcast came out, and his nephew as they run a Youtube channel. The other half is said SEGA fan, his nephew and nephew's friendwatching his exploits in Isekailand in a commentary type fashion. For as long as the Isekai genre has gone on, this has got to be the freshest take on it I've ever seen. For one, the MC actually returns to the real world, so it has that going for it. But personally, the real world sections are my favorite of the two as you do see how Ojisan grapples with living in a bold new world where SEGA exited the console business. And magic of course. As a fan of retro games, and videos about retro games, I loved these segments as the author behind these clearly has a passion and knowledge on actual games. The producers for this must have pulled a lot of strings to have the brand names depicted without censoring unlike the manga, so you get a lot of real world references to not just Sega games, but also Sony, Nintendo, Youtube, and other companies/products as well. And as silly as it may sound, it helps to ground the show and make it more relatable despite the magic realism and all. And speaking of retro games, the OP itself deserves a special shoutout for its commitment to detail as it parodies various Sega games/tech demoes that Ojisan would no doubt be familiar with (down to the Saturn compression for FMVs), while correctly deriving its parodies from sources that came out before Ojisan got Isekai'd. The Isekai segments are pretty fun too, but outside of the initial premise of a SEGA fan being Isekai'd into a fantasy world, it doesn't deliver anything particularly new or fresh. It's very well executed with plenty of memorable characters and a great sense of humor, but a lot of good isekai also offer that so Isekai Ojisan has one less leg to stand on if you're comparing it with other shows. Still, I've never seen a character like Mabel before appear in an Isekai before. She's somehow even more pathetic and egotistical than Bocchi, and I love her for it. The general plot within these segments is fairly typical and nothing special, but they are there to steer the characters into wacky situations and hijinks, so I don't necessarily hate it for its lack of originality on that front. And again, the unorthodox mix of retro games and Isekai make for a really fun watch. If you're sick of the endless Isekai shows that crop up every season, you owe it to yourself to watch Isekai Ojisan and be comforted in the fact that there are people out there who don't lazily churn out a cheap shitty power fantasy LN that gets adapted into a mediocre anime down the line. You watch it and then go play Panzer Dragoon again. Preferably on original hardware. 8/10
Another show that is good because its an isekai that ISNT an isekai, i like this trend. The animation style is pretty good, the battles are animated well enough. MC is interesting, somehow he is both wise and oblivious at the same time. Although its pretty obvious that he is OP AF, this is not something the show focuses on too much, instead it puts most of its effort into the comedy aspect. His love for nostalgic game consoles is very relatable. The female characters are interesting and funny as well, There is some fan-service but its not hyper-focused on, so its bearable. Hearing the old school sonicand other sega classic game ost's throughout the show is a bonus too.
A great comedy in the same vain as Konosuba. The combination of great VAs, expressive characters and facial expressions, and perfect comedic timing makes this just a joy to watch. Not only is it a great parody of isekai and anime tropes, but it stands on its own as a great comedy even for those that aren't familiar with the genre. The characters are all very likable even if their actions sometimes make you want to scream, though I think if you really looked at this critically it'd be difficult to find a legitimate reason why any of the women in this show would beattracted to or be able to put up with the Uncle. It's not because "he's ugly," which is often played for laughs, but because he is an unflinching straight man to both his own ridiculousness and the ridiculousness going on around him. He is dense to an absolute fault when it comes to anything romantic involving himself, but is contrastingly incredibly perceptive about Fujimiya's crush on his nephew (this is treated as just as absurd in universe as the viewer would think it is). I do like how the Isekai world is presented as a playback he's showing to people in the real world because it allows for more hijinks to happen with his magic in the real world. I would've loved to see the characters from his past in the Isekai world have some sort of active role interacting with the cast in the real world, but I understand how this would probably throw off the feel of the show. Overall, just great and would love to see a S2 some day.
After seeing that this anime was going to be broadcast, I was really looking forward to it, even though it was delayed for several months, it was finally finished. The opening song is good, and quite unique, I think this is very relative to the anime itself. Maybe it was a little beyond my expectations, I thought that this anime would be similar to other Isekai, but apparently not, this grandfather went to Isekai for 17 years while he was lying in the hospital. The next disappointing thing is that this anime is nothing more than just telling stories to his grandson when he goes to Isekai,Even then, if there is a trigger, then talk about his life situation in Isekai. But apart from that, I quite like it, especially as the comedy is quite funny and not boring to watch. Even though it doesn't focus on romance, this anime still has a hint of romance between the characters. The next unique thing is telling about world situations that are really happening now, such as YouTube, the internet or others, I think this is very good, Because it is different from other anime which are usually set in imaginary places, or even though they are the same in modern times, they are not completely true. The downside is that Lineart isn't perfect, there are a lot of lines that look disjointed, I hoped this would be an improvement in BD but it turns out it's the same.
If you're in the mood for an anime with some ecchi spice, comedy, and a bit of action thrown in, then look no further than Isekai Ojisan! This anime is like a delicious bowl of ramen – it's got all the right ingredients to make you drool with anticipation. Let's talk about the OST songs – they're so good. The opening theme has been on my playlist ever since it appeared. And the animation? It's top-notch! The scenes are so smooth, you'd swear they were buttered up with some margarine. There are a few CGI scenes during fights but it's not bad and distracting. Now, let's getto voice acting. The main character, a middle-aged uncle who's sucked into a fantasy world, is played to perfection. He is voiced by none other than Takehito Koyasu. He's funny and relatable. The girls have the kind of voice that could lull you to sleep (in a good way!). The supporting cast is also excellent, with each character having their own quirks and personality. But let's not forget the elephant in the room – the delays. This anime was delayed more times than a train on the New York City subway system. But fear not, because during the delay, I started reading the manga, and boy, did I fall in love with it even more! The story is just so damn good, you'll forget all about the delays and focus on the action and comedy. If you're looking for an anime that's got it all – comedy, action, and a great plot – then Isekai Ojisan is the show for you. It may not be for everyone, especially if you're not into RPG and gaming themes, but if you give it a chance, you might just find yourself hooked!
It's kind of funny, I guess? I'm heavily biased towards the show just because it's comedy, but the way the story is structured just sets it up for failure. If it weren't for the fact that I enjoy the genre, it'd certainly not be worth watching. The execution isn't particularly stunning, but it was definitely good at some points. The problem with Isekai Ojisan is the fact that this show is split into a "real world" story and the "isekai" story. Most, if not all of the funny parts of the story are in the isekai one. The show and author are also aware of this. The real world is only there to provide as tsukkomi on the events happening in the fantasy world. In the beginning, the happenings all happen in the real world. Ojisan is recovering from his many years of being away from modern civilization, and is adapting to the rapidly growing technology. The shock he gets from SEGA not being a major game developer anymore is indicative of that. He creates a YouTube channel to get a living, and that's about it. Every event from that point forward is completely focused on his isekai past that Takafumi and Sumika tsukkomi on. They're both utterly boring and lack any characterization for how little attention is put on them. When there is focus on them, it's always some generic watered down comedy that the isekai version does better. My question is, if you aren't going to do anything about the real world and the only role is to have people tsukkomi on the good part of the story, then why the hell do you include it in the first place? The show would have been fine if you had point-of-view changes between first-person perspectives. The comedy could even have been accentuated if that were to happen. It doesn't make sense. The isekai part of the story is a pretty normal misunderstanding comedy isekai story, but I don't hate it. It's polished enough to be its own product, just don't add the awkward real-world interactions. However, with everything combined into one bundle, I can't say I massively enjoyed the show. I say I give this a 6/10, but in reality, it's more like a 6.5/10. Rounded up, and that's a 7. It's just that I can't bear to actually give this show a good rating, because it's just not that great.
Isekai Ojisan is an isekai with an interesting and refreshing story of the thousands of isekai that are released each year, its strength in the plot is that its vurla to all the cliches used in the isekai and its references to video games that are not simple jokes but part of the plot, we also cannot forget the dynamic of the nephew with his childhood friend that makes the jokes not become repetitive, it has everything to enter the top 10 of the best animes of 2022 but thanks to the fact that the problems were still there. COVID and internal problems in theproduction could not be finished in its broadcast year but in this year 2023, but the long wait paid off with all its problems leading to a satisfactory ending that opens the possibility of a second season The OP and ED are an 8, it would not be a surprise if the OP became a meme or dance challenge The character designs are remarkable thanks to the coloring and expressions. The most notable are Mabel, Elf and because of her, the Ojisan who, thanks to his appearance, aroused the curiosity of those who do not see Isekai.
Isekai Ojisan is a show I was hyped for. Unfortunately, I'm saddened it couldn't live up to my expectations. Experiencing the isekai adventure then showing it to your nephew distinguished Ojisan from other isekai protagonist. This idea alone intrigued me to watch it. Other than the usual tropes (Harem, Overpowered MC, etc.), the raw and light-hearted comedy, coupled with jumping back and forth from modern day to the journey's "recordings" made a quirky but distinctive formula, which is something that I enjoyed. However, problems with production were apparent through out the show. The inconsistency in animation quality is something that bothered me. I get that the animationstyle was "different" and im all for it, but some episodes looked like they were drawn by kindergarteners. I did not watch Isekai Ojisan while it was airing, but I read that there was delays in airing leading to the show needing sometime close to a year to completely air. This could be the cause of the poor production. In conclusion, this show had potential that wasn't fulfilled in my opinion, but it still can be enjoyed if taken light-heartedly. Hope season 2 is adapted better ! Note: This is my first review so I didn't dive into aspects of the material itself(simplistic plot, flat characters etc.).
It was a good anime,a solid (7.99) from me. In terms of story, to be honest, this anime has a fairly original and fresh concept. Isekai-style delivery from the point of view of people who have been there. Truly unique and original. In terms of characterization, there is not much difference because basically the choices to determine the character of existing characters are indeed limited. Regarding the execution, it's not that great and just like the main character in general. In terms of design, it's not much different from anime in general. Designs in modern times and also isekai designs tend to be mediocre so itdoesn't change my impression of this anime much. In terms of visuals, the retro style that is delivered is actually quite unique and well executed. But in the end, there's really nothing else to discuss besides the unique retro visuals. In terms of audio, this anime has potential and good voice actors. This anime also has a suitable theme song and a suitable soundtrack. In my opinion, one of the best aspects of this anime is the audio execution. This anime is highly recommended for those of you who want to find new nuances in watching anime, because to be honest, the concept of this anime is quite original and different from other anime in general. It is certain that you will really enjoy watching this anime.
