Tamaki Tsuru joins Aonagi University in hopes of making friends, getting a boyfriend, and living a typical university student life. She decides to try out for the tennis club in order to make friends and avoid anything too athletic. But when she is distracted by a model glider during tryouts, Tamaki ends up hitting a tennis ball right at it, smashing it into pieces. Daisuke Sorachi, a member of the Aviation Club, demands that she pay for the damages. Following the incident, Aviation Club captain Jun Kuramochi tries to goad Tamaki into joining their club, but Tamaki refuses. Not wanting to lose a chance at recruiting a club member, Jun orchestrates a way for Tamaki to earn the money to repay her debts and gives her a boyfriend in the process. While she joins the club reluctantly, Jun seems to have other plans for their newest member. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Blue Thermal, at least this movie adaptation, tried its very best to deliver an engaging and wide-ranging plot centered around a first-year undergrad. The result, however, leaves much to be desired. If you have come expecting a very emotional experience, it would be wise to hold back some of those expectations yourself. This is not a sports-themed anime. It seems to fit into the slice-of-life category, but even I would still In short, the movie starts with a very enticing narrative of a Tsuru Tamaki who broke a glider and was initially encouraged to join the aviation club as an act of penance. The premise itselfshould have been more than enough to bribe you into watching this movie. Despite the interesting premise, the characters of this movie, including the MC herself, do not shine well, if at all. The first 35-40 minutes sets up the subplots of the three supporting characters of Sorachi, Yano, and Kuramochi. Sorachi's subplot didn't go anywhere for the remainder of the movie. Yano's conflict with Tsuru seemed to have no emotional weight at all. Kuramochi himself didn't get the proper screen time to explore his own personal and family issues. All in all, the characters seem so bland and uninteresting. The lack of interpersonal dynamics also dulls the mood and atmosphere of the movie. The story itself, especially the last 40 or so minutes, seems like another generic slice-of-life episode. The ending feels somewhat boring and tiring at the same time. While the movie prides itself with being unique in making a story out of gliding, the sports itself is not deeply explored and only seems to serve as a dressing instead of the vegetables in a salad bowl. The animation is decent, not marvelous in anyway but not horrendous either. If you're looking for something you can marvel at for weeks, then you may safely skip this piece of art. Blue Thermal would have been much better had it been adapted into a one-cour anime series instead of a 4-episode equivalent of a movie.
I thought I would shed some light on this show. I’ve watch nearly 100 anime at the time of writing, and this is the first anime that I’ve watched in a theater. I was quite skeptical about this show at first, as I was the only person in the whole theater, but this turns out to be quite a good show. The story writing here is quite solid. Everything made good sense, and easy for me to follow along. There’s no major turn-offs whilst watching, and I throughly enjoyed it. However, I feel like there are some bits that defies common sense, which confuses me alittle. I’m usually quite into drama/romance genre, which I think that the writers had done a great job of portraying these elements into the film. The romance bits mostly doesn’t make much sense to me, but it didn’t bother me all that much as there’s only a handful of them throughout the show. In a nutshell, I think there’s some great elements of story writing throughout this show. Contrasting to the story aspect, the art is a little disappointing. The character animation are quite great: their movements are natural and fluid. What I don’t understand is the background art. I think it’s very lazily done. Some shots from the sky looks like a Google Earth render for some reason?? But at least the character art and animation is fine, so I’m not going to press anymore on that front. There’s not a lot of soundtrack highlights throughout, but most of the uses of music are quite effective. The music in this show did a relatively good job of conveying the emotions of the characters. The ending was quite good… Not really much else to say. I’ve pretty much enjoyed the whole show. It really caught my full attention throughout. I think this show is a little underrated, and I feel like it could do really well if it wasn’t for the poor advertisement of the show. I’ve never heard of this show until I was at the ticket booth. Give it a try everyone!
Adressing an obvious thing first : I gave this movie a 5, yet I don't recommend it. I have only very few anime that I rated under 5, as usually if they don't reach that threshold, it's a drop for me. I never force myself to watch anything that is at least not mid. So unless an anime was mid just until the very few last episodes that makes it go under 5, 5 is really my lower limit, so usually not something I would recommend. Blue Thermal had a lot of potential due to it's background theme. It's like Super Cub, Slow Loop, etc. ina sense that it's based on a non mainstream activity, and as such, not really covered by many anime (if none). As I enjoyed a lot those kind of anime, I gave this one a chance. The thing with Blue Thermal is that instead of being a seasonal anime with the duration of 12-13 episodes, this is a movie. And that's where it hurts compared to any of these other non maistream activity anime, where it has : 1° Have enough titme to get into the ins & outs of the activity, which then makes the anime a somewhat "informative" anime, on top of a relaxing moment. 2° Due again to lesser time constraints, the other shows give you enough time & background informations about the different protagonists, so you can root for them or get at least some level of connection. Here you don't really care about anyone, while again the story is based about the feelings you may have for the different protagonists. There, all is rushed, the anime doesn't give you any explanations of how the gliders operate, how the flying techniques work, the main girl has never flown anything and yet she has this absurd innate skill, and again due to time constraints you barely can notice the small hints that a decently long period of time has passed, she is almost instantly skilled at flying while you never see her learning anything, and the list goes on & on. Fortunately, due to some Flight simulator gaming background, I have a very limited knowledge on how gliders operate, so I was able to get the main clues, but any lambda person may not understand anything about it. The visuals are decent, while personally I'm not a fan of this mix of "fotorealistic" backgrounds with hand drwan animations on top of it. I understand the lower cost process, but again, that does lower my overall perception of the anime. Unfortunately it seems that we see more and more of this practice nowadays. Conclusion : Overall, it's a frustrating anime movie, because all you can think of while watching it is all the issues with it. Yet, it may really be a gem as a manga to read, because I have this feeling that all the negatives about the movie may completely be covered by the structure of a longer and more detailed manga, the movie doesn't have anything memorable about the audio, so you don't lose anything there (as opposed to a manga centered around music) and the animations are not top notch either, so here again, the manga could probably work better. Not recommended, unless you really really need a weird anime entry to complete a grid game. (sorry for typos and gramatical mistakes, english is not my main laguage, in hope that this review may help a few of you , fellow anime lovers)
Blue Thermal is an anime film that had the potential to be a standout movie, but ultimately fell short due to its weak and unengaging story. The standout elements of animation and music were not enough to compensate for the flaws in the plot and character development. The animation in this film was a standout aspect for me. The character designs were visually striking and the action sequences were beautifully choreographed. The use of CG appeared minimal, which helped to create a cohesive and immersive visual experience. The color palette was used effectively to bring the world of the film to life and add depth andrichness to the animation. The music in this film was also a highlight, with a memorable soundtrack that enhanced the emotional impact of certain scenes. The use of music in this film was well-chosen and expertly integrated into the scenes, helping to set the mood and atmosphere of the film. The ending theme song was particularly memorable and well-crafted. However, despite these strong elements, the film ultimately fell short due to its flawed story. The pacing was off, with some parts dragging on unnecessarily and others feeling rushed, particularly in the final 15 minutes of the film. The lack of character development and coherence in the plot made it difficult for me to become emotionally invested in the story and led to a feeling of frustration and disappointment. In conclusion, this film was a major disappointment and did not live up to its potential. Despite the strong animation and music, the flaws in the story detracted significantly from my enjoyment of the movie and left me feeling underwhelmed. It is a shame that such a visually stunning and emotionally impactful film was let down by its weak and unengaging story. Overall, I would not recommend this film to others.
Often when a community appears to be overly negative about a given anime/anime movie, I am intrigued & compelled to check out what all the fuss is about. Given the rather “grim prognosis” of Blue Thermal post perusing the reviews, it was inevitable I’d take a gander at it; I disagree with the community. At a rating of “6 (at the time of this post)” I feel that Blue Thermal is underrated and a victim of manga enthusiast that are unable accept the fact “that by necessity & the nature of different mediums, things change when adapted from written format to a film); what works forone medium does not always transfer well to another. Blue Thermal (at least this film adaptation, haven’t read the manga), despite being a bit formulaic, was a well paced & enjoyable experience. If one is not viewing it through the lens of nostalgia goggles and prior knowledge of the manga; they will not be disappointed. It was decent enough for me to care about the cast, the stakes were decent, and the ending was satisfying. I would compare to a well thought out holiday movie to use an analogy; you get a feel for what it is from the get-go but still scratches your itch a satisfying tale. I give it a 7 out 10.
I'll be straightforward. This anime has potential if it was presented as a 12 or more episode series. It had interesting plots that was rushed and "resolved" or left immediately. It felt like it can be more if only it wasn't fitted into a movie. Now I haven't seen the source material but I'm hoping it has more than what the movie had offered. It has a potential to stick with you IF only all the arcs has been fleshed out but it instead became light and weightless, there's a chance people could be invested in it if this wasn't presented as a single movie. Also, the characters can be explored more had this been a series. Good points, I guess is, as some had pointed out are the music, animation and the key visuals. Would I recommend this? At the moment, No. But if you just want to out something up to fill the silence while you work, go ahead and try it.
