As the first commoner to attend the prestigious Arnold Academy of Sorcery, Ray White is immediately met with contempt from some of the students hailing from nobility. Unbeknownst to them, Ray's real identity is that of the famous Iceblade Sorcerer—a hero who led the country to victory in a past war and is one of the seven strongest sorcerers alive. Despite his legendary status, Ray wants nothing more than to live out the ordinary school life he never had. Ray quickly makes friends with some of the most influential students thanks to his kind and amiable nature. Unfortunately, as those with nefarious motives begin to make their move, Ray may soon have no choice but to use his true power to preserve the bonds that make his new life worthwhile. I don’t know what it was, but iceblade just hit for me. First episode was meh, but as the next few went on I really started liking the MC, the world and characters. Something about them just ticked for me. I always say that something being generic does not necessarily mean bad. All stories have really been done before, so it comes down to execution to keep things entertaining and I think the execution of the characters in this one was good despite the generic overpowered guy at magical academy who everyone thinks is weak plot line. Smaller cast means more focus on them andtime to actually flesh them out. Little details like the edgy class rival who tries to make life hell for the MC actually growing and changing over the course of the show as opposed to staying a whiny brat all the time were great. I also think the lack of much overt fan-service was a welcome way to keep the focus on the interpersonal relationships of the characters and story. The story isn’t the strongest and mainly focuses on the MC navigating daily life at the school while overcoming his personal trauma. He’s apprehensive to making friends because of previous experiences and gradually those walls are torn down. If I had to have any complaint with the final episodes’ arc was pretty weak. I didn’t really care about Rebecca as a character because she didn’t have much screen time, but they tried to make it seem like she was an important character and force us to be emotional with her situation. Probably a result of skipping some source content I’d imagine. Art wise the show is kind of odd. The first time I saw it I just thought the character designs looked so weird and plain. I’m still not the biggest fan of them, but they have grown on me along with the story. The animation is pretty bad though. All of the fight scenes are subpar. Especially Amelia’s little battle arc. Someone once told me that you can’t have great animation and good character development. That’s not always the case, but in this one it is. Iceblade isn’t the most original show around, it’s definitely trope-y and it doesn’t have the best animation, but I enjoyed it a lot which is all that matters. It was actually one of my favourite shows of the season and after onimai, the second most anticipated Thursday seasonal. I’ll be checking out the LN for sure after this. Iceblade gets 8 out of 10
"The Iceblade Magician Shall Rule the World" is an anime with a weird name that's fitting for how bizarre and unengaging the show turned out to be. From the start, it was clear that the story was lacking in direction and purpose, and the character of Ray White was just as uninteresting. Typically, an anime protagonist faces challenges and grows stronger as a result, but Ray is inexplicably overpowered from the start, making it difficult to feel invested in his character arc. Instead, the show relies on tired harem anime tropes, with Ray saving a group of girls who then become infatuated with him. I was completelyunderwhelmed by the show's lack of depth and coherence, and after the 12th episode, I was genuinely disappointed that I had invested any time in it at all. The show failed to provide any meaningful character development or world-building, leaving me feeling unfulfilled and frustrated. Overall, "The Iceblade Magician Shall Rule the World" is a forgettable harem anime that fails to live up to its potential(genuinely doubt if it's story had any). Its weak storyline, uninspired characters, and lackluster execution make it a waste of time for anyone looking for a truly engaging anime experience. I would not recommend it to anyone." P.S.: Please do not try it.
I effing hate this show to the core, it stinks and reels its way to the Isekai trash bin on an easy approach off the anime runway. As Gordon Ramsay would say: "Bloody hell, here we go again." The desire for people to fill the AniManga scene with more generic Isekai/fantasy trash, I don't really understand the appeal of sadists like these to try and come up with "unique" LN-like titles for anime adaptations, simply because they are THAT popular in Japan. And people would LOVE the freak hell to pick out even the most blatant of generic works, no matter who was writing it, nomatter who were the target audience for the shows, and absolutely no matter what was earned after the post ordeal with the anime on Blu-Ray sales. Case in point: novelist Nana Mikoshiba's Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu a.k.a The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World. Immediately, you can already tell of the red flags that this show unwittingly admits of the same tropes all over again: the hero (or some kind of strong entity) getting reincarnated somehow into another world or just laying low because he/she is allowed to, to then only resurface later on; the typical school academy-based magic and land of a waifu simulator where the MC appeals to all girls wanting a slice of him; the generic evil villain organizations/groups that wreak havoc for absolutely no reason at all other than to expose the hero out for who he/she is, and other weird shit that does NOT make ANY sense at all. The TL;DR for this show (because I don't find it worthy to display the splendour of generic-sity): MC is Ray White. He's the Iceblade Sorcerer. Tired and frustrated of a life-prong war, he retreats back to school, wanting to experience life as that of a typical student: going tn class, hanging out with friends, joining absurd clubs, participating in tournament arcs that showcase his OP-ness, fight the most generic of evil with good. And the cycle repeats itself over and over again to more cringeworthy and unappealing aesthetics that the Average Joe can ever want to comprehend, much less accept the fact that not everyone can be Misfit of Demon Academy's Anos VoldiGOAT. He/She's just some generic high class-rate position who just wants a second life at experiencing ordinary things, that's no wrong at all, until the wayward evil do an expose to finally showcase that "I am this and that" and expect the audience to be shocked and wowed at the reveal. No. No, no, no, no, no. We've seen too much to experience trash, which Geoff Thew of Mother's Basement phrased this show to the T as such: a dumbfounded version of the Irregular at Magic High School, dubbed the Irregular at Glass Reflection High School. Even equally as dumb as it can be, are the characters. Almost everything that you can note down of Isekai trash can be found here: the Protag-kun Ray White with abs to match his Onegai Muscle-loving roommate Evi Armstrong by joining a muscle club and flexing their thin, but dispropionate body formation (like, why, what is this author trying to smoke here); the dandere Amelia Rose who has a knack for Ray's attention being an awful weak disposition of her own living being, only to have a cop-out by improving herself when attached to Ray; the deredere half-elven girl Elisa Griffith that follows Ray like his loyal right-hand man and has no faults to a degree; the tsundere of Claris Cleveland being just simply jealous of his presence in tyring to appeal to her; and last but not least, the kuudere gardening club member Rebecca Bradley who seems kinda mute, but has a lot going off in her mind to require Ray's help in extracting the evil group "Eugenics" using brains as their experimental focal point in transforming into dangerous beasts. Yeah, I couldn't even make this shit up even if I tried. I have to admit that seeing the girls wound up themselves around Ray to improve their selves, it's not bad at all and displays some fun, but that's my only praise when the scenarios just click and produces eureka moments for me to say: "Darn, this is good!". It's just everyday dumpster fire that I'm willing to consume and bash it for all I care throughout its existence. Yes, this show NEEDS one VERY NEW studio to make a mark as its first anime on the docket. But if you're well-versed in the scene of the anime industry, new studios like Cloud Hearts are just the branch-out portions for their main primary/parent studio, which in this case, gets its assistance and supervision from Yokohama Animation Laboratory, the studio behind Miru Tights and Tensai Ōuji no Akaji Kokka Saisei Jutsu a.k.a The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt. By knowing how the main parent studio's works are like, Yokohama Animation Laboratory's works are not the finest, though it seems like in Cloud Hearts's case that this show looks kinda generic, but ugly as heck with character stem lines being very inconsistent at best, sometimes thin or thick. And yes, borrowing staff from the main studio is the new standard when it comes to distinguishing how the production is like, which is totally subpar at best. The music is the make-or-break point for any show (at least it is for me), and God forbid that I actually hear one of the worst OSTs in a very long while. I seriously don't know what it is about this musical project Sizuk, but the OP kinda sucks big time for being so obnoxiously repetitive, and the musical notes in here just want to make my ears bleed out. You want to know what's worse? Utilizing all of the fanservice moments in the ED, because that's how you know that the show cannot get too generic enough to throw all hands on deck and just simply say: "Guys, we couldn't find anything better, so enjoy watching the lead girls in sexual orientations if we can slot some, because that's our gift to you for lasting throughout each and every trashy episode of ours." Also, the ED being sung by Maaya Uchida, I'd swear to God that that's not her voice at all, until I have to accept the reality that it's a waste of a song of immense vocals. Goddamn, this show knows its trash, that's handled by a 3rd-rate studio and a new one to boot (that I'm legitimately worried for next Winter's Sasayaku You ni Koi o Utau a.k.a Whisper Me a Love Song), what a false start down the rubbish dump that it should belong to. There is fun to be had, that's if you can handle cringe at its most intense and immense, I'll guarantee that you feel it in every inch of your soul and bones. Stay away from this show if you want to engage your sanity back, because I've lost mine in so many shows this season. And while this show isn't the worst of all, that's a track record I'll remember for the rest of my life. What a potential catastrophic failure.
I did not expect to actually finish this Anime, but I did. The story is pretty "average" which is kind of sad because I actually liked the protagonist. He is not like the average MC, he is a gentlemen. He isnt simping over every single female person that he meets or is too scared to even talk to a female character. He is the opposite. Plot: The protagonist attends a Magic academy because he wants to learn more about Humans, make friends etc. Something cruel happened in his past and because of that his only "friends" are a group of soldiers. It is a pretty basicplot to be hones. The other characters get introduced pretty fast and from then on they get to know eachother more etc. But, like I said, the MC is a gentlemen, thats why half of his friends are women. You probably know where this is going... Of course, there is also a "Bad organisation" and the other usual stuff. Animation: The Animation was okay. There were some episodes with really good and some with really bad animation. Characters: The characters were average. The MC is the only one that was a bit different, but all in all, really basic. Im still not sure If I should give this Anime a 6 or a 5. It was pretty funny and I kinda liked it but its still pretty average.
After watching, overall 6/10, not good and not bad, just normal. 1.This anime adds a little fan service to certain episodes and especially in the ending, but in my opinion, instead of fan service, it's better to focus on the storyline to make it more interesting. 2.The character who is too excited about her dry comedy is called Caroline Carol, which I think is just ordinary. 3.For the MC's background, it is also absurd that war victims continue to live peacefully and there is absolutely no further information about the results of the war. 4.The MC's voice when he was little and his pseudonym character wasKugimiya Rie and I'm already bored of hearing his voice. 5.It was said that the MC could rule the world but when he fought the last enemy he was overwhelmed. 6.The last episode was even filled with debate. 7.In the last seconds, the show seemed to make the audience curious about the next story, such as the arrival of a new character, but I didn't hope S2 at all, especially considering the condition of the score which was below average. That's all, watched it while it was in Good Mode so even though it was already on the market, I still continued watching until the end.
I watched the first episode because I saw it in a TikTok. I watched the other 11 because I wanted to see if anything wasn't a trope in the entire show (everything was a trope XD). The main character was a trope/bland, the harem of girls he had around him were all tropes/bland, the plot was bland, the backstory was bland, but the opener was decent. The animation didn't even deserve to call itself animation, it was more of a slideshow than anything else. This show is a shaky 2/10 (1/10 if the intro wasn't so good) don't watch unless you want to enjoy ashow for its blandness.
Violet Evergarden, except actually good. “I have no trouble communicating with women” - the protagonist. “Wtf, how am I supposed to self-insert?” - weebs that were expecting a generic isekai / battle harem. First, this show isn’t a battle harem academy despite the superficial appearance of one, it’s a slice-of-life comedy. Second, it’s self-insert fiction in a very old-school western way, like Harry Harrison’s and Robert Howard’s books. The protagonist is a gigachad with bodybuilder's muscles, mad sword & sorcery skills, a multitude of diverse talents, and an ability to unhook bras with his eyes. Basically, he’s Conan the Barbarian - a self-insert in the sense that the audiencewould like to be like him - and *could* realistically imagine themselves in his place because everything about this character's talents is actually entirely rational from the writing perspective. The bodybuilder’s muscles come from hours of on-screen exercise, the fighting skills come from getting coached by genius mentors and years of military service, etc. When he restores an abandoned garden as a hobby project, this is done with weeks of manual labor (again, shown to us on-screen) - not with a Lvl. 999 Gardening cheat skill he got from a goddess as a reincarnation perk. The audience can imagine themselves achieving the same result if they put in the same amount of effort, had the same circumstances, etc. The issue is, this isn’t a Conan the Barbarian novel, this is an anime, and [harem] anime does self-insert fantasy in a fundamentally different way. Harem anime self-insert characters usually are pathetic losers with no redeeming qualities whatsoever who magically luck into success with zero effort on their part. That’s because such anime knows its target audience, in particular, it understands that the idea of putting in any effort or having any talents scares and confuses them. This contradiction between the approach and the medium is the reason why we get to hear these laugh/cringe-inducing cope takes from self-inserters about this protagonist being “generic” or “unrelatable.” Yeah, imagine relating to having no trouble communicating with women, the mind boggles. Anyway, these takes are straight-up gaslighting. Not only is this protagonist a well-written, well-developed character, there is also not a single other character similar to him in all of ~1100 anime titles I’ve seen at the time of writing. What makes him particularly unique is the personality of a smooth-talking idiot savant. Here’s how this fine chap introduces two girls to each other: “This sweet angel is Elisa. She's got an exceptionally beautiful heart, excels at being considerate in subtle ways, studies hard, and is vastly knowledgeable.” “And then this one-of-a-kind lady who loves and is loved by these transcendentally wavy twintails is Claris. She has the highest level of elegance, with which she expertly weaves perfect sweetness into her otherwise cool demeanor.” Now’s a good moment to mention that you can actually find a similar protagonist if you try - and that protagonist is Violet Evergarden. Both The Iceblade Sorcerer and Violet Evergarden are stories about a veteran child soldier returning to the civilian world and trying to catch up on normal late-teens life while struggling with the demons of their past. Except Violet is an absolute caricature of a naruto-running autistic robot dog (seriously, I was expecting a reveal that she is a literal combat robot like Terminator, it would’ve made so much sense), whereas Ray is a realistic, well-developed character. One aspect of which is being naive and socially oblivious as a consequence of spending formatting years on the battlefield. If someone tried those lines above on women in real life, they would come off as sleazy, but Ray gets away with it because those lines are consistent with his overall behavior both for us, the audience, and for the characters within the story. He doesn’t mean those lines as compliments, they are his genuine unfiltered thoughts, and he isn’t worldly enough to think of the implications. Also, if those introductions made you chuckle - that is entirely intentional. The show is unapologetically goofy and tries its best to be fun. Because, as I’ve said above, it’s a slice-of-life comedy, not a battle harem - as long as you actually open your eyes and look. It features none of the battle harem academy tropes, notably, it has pretty much zero fanservice (of the teen-boy-eroticism kind you’d expect in a battle harem specifically), opting instead for imaginative animation sequences and low-key bizarre, but wholesome comedy. The Iceblade Sorcerer has more in common with Bocchi The Rock and Yuru Camp than with something like Mahouka or Rakudai Kishi. When some random muppet-looking house spider came into the frame saying “I want to have wings,” my mind immediately jumped to pinecones from Yuru Camp saying “konnichiwa.” As for the way the series handles self-insert fantasy - how many socially-anxious teens do you think were like, “Bocchi is just like me, fr fr no cap” while watching Bocchi The Rock? The Iceblade Sorcerer is self-insert fiction in the same way Bocchi The Rock is self-insert fiction. Also, I’ve seen complaints about animation quality - those are daft and philistine. The show is very visually engaging with visionary and competent direction. Its sound direction is top-notch too, particularly how it uses insert songs to set up the mood. 9/10 for an entertaining cartoon.
Alright let me just say this outright This anime got me into working out just by watching it I know how that sounds but holy hell idk what happened Should I say it's actually a good anime? Nope. Can I say it made my life better? Yep. Ignore all harem stuff as MC does and you can actually enjoy it. Actual plot is decent, fantasy stuff is beliavable-ish, villians are dorks, harm stuff is annoying as always, pacing is fine, mandatory beach episode is present. Overall I can recommend watching it but it does require some mental strength to pull through first episode.
This anime was a big surprise to me. I came here expecting a very generic plot and character, which I guess was true in some ways, but I saw much more than that. The more I watched the anime the more I got intrigued by the plot and everything. It was a show that I have to say really got me wanting more of and kept watching in hopes for the next episode to come out. If there is a 2nd season I will definitely watch it. Lets get some rating outta the way! The plot, although kind of messy as in there wasn't much buildup for a certain climax but there were multiple things happening at once, was very interesting and to say the least it kept me on my toes. An example of what I mean by messy would be as if you build up a plot for a certain event to happen, and that event happens halfway, concludes and then a new event that was completely unrelated to the story suddenly appears as the final climax. The characters I would say were somewhat generic yet had their own charm to them, I loved how cute and hilarious some their faces where and just couldn't help but admire their characters. The music in this show was surprisingly really nice. I got addicted to listening to their OP every time and their ED was bomb as well. There isn't a lot to be said honestly, but I couldn't help but review this seemingly underrated anime of which I have seem so many hateful reviews on. This anime definitely sparked an interest in me with the build up and the story telling.
"Grandiosely generic and fantastically fair" is the one sentence I would use to describe The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World (Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu). Its a high-school slice-of-life infused with harem and bits of romcom in front of a fantasy backdrop. Except when the backdrop becomes the main story and turns everything into a menacing fantasy world based on magic-as-science which forces its inhabitants to grow and improve to survive. The show successfully blends enjoyable parts of different genres together without overdoing it and as such is a very welcome breath of fresh air. However: die-hard genre purists that are either into fantasy/isekaiwith constant level-ups and epic boss battles or are of the high-school slice-of-life/romcom type expecting lots of shy emotions and tender misunderstandings or those who need harem building to take center-stage might find this show to be too much of a mixed bag. Because the world of Iceblade Sorcerer really has it all: high-school bullying because social status. Self-improvement sometimes because the next challenge is so much harder and sometimes just because why not. Demonic teachers and benevolent sifus. OP MC who must restrain his powers or else everyone around him is doomed. Except when he has to risk letting loose to save the day. Tragic backstory that did not stop MC from growing into a decent guy instead of a self-pitying slob or disgusting supervillain - because of help from his friends. Naive and kind to a fault MC who nevertheless is far from being a hopeless fumbling idiot - which is why, of course, all the girls fall for him. A harem, of both high-shool girls and adults, with the usual amount of fawning and doting - but at the same time meaningful and deep connections between characters are allowed to exist and develop. Meanwhile, in the world outside high-school, the situation becomes so life-threateningly serious that even the most goofy classmates and club members become supporters in ways that make sense, or are at least fun to watch. And where even gender-swapping becomes a valid tactic instead of a mere plot device. Overall both character and plot development have a nice balance of just enough growth, reveals and twists to keep it interesting without becoming too complicated or confusing to follow. A similar balance can be found in production quality: art style is solid and detailed enough to please but certainly not on masterpiece level. The world and characters, including enemies, as well as attacks are nicely visualized but the action itself tends to be static, with lots of dialogue. Music and sound effects are a good fit that add to the atmosphere. Fanservice is muted to the point of adding dispersion instead of assaulting the viewer (if you're craving for more then watch the regular ED at least once but definitely watch ED of episode 7). Iceblade Sorcerer surely would have benefited from a boost in production quality to reach "really great" level - but, hey, that's the economy we currently live in. All-in-all I absolutely recommend giving the show a try. For the non-purists out there it can provide at least a pleasant pastime and even the purists might experience something new to enjoy.
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World, it's a really cool anime, it has a really good story, the characters in the series are incredible, especially Amelia, who is my favorite in the anime, who for the love of God is super well written, the protagonist is also well developed, the other characters are less developed than Amelia and Ray, but they are really cool too, the fights, the animation and the visual aesthetics are really beautiful, seriously, this anime is way above average, I didn't give it anything and it gave me everything, especially the opening of the anime is really good, Sizuk dida great job with the lyrics and especially with the choruses of the music, it's an anime that's worth it, and I really like magic/isekai anime, I would really like this one. It's a great anime, I really liked the original dubbing and the Portuguese dubbing. I hope it gets a second season.
I actually enjoyed this one and it surprised me in that. At first I was ready to dismiss this as being incredibly generic, while having an art style that is 20 years out of date. Even though this is not an isekai, at first glance this looks like the standard plot where the most powerful hero//mage/demon king, reincarnates and then goes to a school where no one knows who they truly are, they show off how OP they are, create a harem, while being the blandest MC that doesn't have any characterisation possible. - That's how these things normally go. This slowly subverted my expectations. The MC isn't reincarnated, instead he was trained at a young age and served in the military, certain events happened, and he mysteriously disappeared as far as everyone knows, a couple of years later he is enrolled at a school as an 'ordinary' and instantly looked down upon because he isn't a noble. - Sounds a lot like Irregular at Magic High, but even there this is different. The first few episodes show us that the MC did not get OP due to innate talent/skill, or because he's the reincarnation of this incredibly powerful person, or that he had some divine blessing from the gods. He became OP through training, and then (apart from the physical skills) lost it all, as a side note, the way he looks like a normal scrawny MC, until he takes his top off to reveal his 'bulk' is both amusing, as well as yet another way that this feels like this should have been an anime from 20 years ago. The MC is also given a backstory, and rather than just have past events teased and make you think "this would be a better anime if we had more of that world and saw more of those characters" it is a satisfying blend of the two parts, the past and present, and we get not just a good array of characters, but a decent amount of time and focus spent on them. The MC is really well developed with being given an actual personality, and with the side characters, several of them are also given focus and developed too and given actual character growth I should also say that one nice tough they did was that the MC ends up gathering up his harem, not by having a total lack of personality, but because he was told to be charming to all women, and compliments and charms them at all times, and thus ends up accidentally seducing everyone he meets. And then we get to the comedy. In many ways this reminded me of Full Metal Panic for how random its comedy moments felt, the references, the crazy scenes plays absolutely straight / seriously with the MC acting like its the most normal thing ever, he was channelling his inner Souske. It made me laugh several times, so I have to give it its props But this is not a perfect series, nor will I pretend it is. The animation style feels dated, the animation itself isn't that great as there are definite dips in quality. The story is lacklustre, it's pretty much relegated to being a background thing and so what we have is a series of events As much as I like this, I struggle to recoomend it, because of the art syle, and because of the type of anime it is This series definitely isn't for everyone, if you don't like the genre, you won't like this, Also, it's easy to see this as being nothing but generic, as it follows many of the story beats that you see in a lot of these. But it takes the generic story, and it does it well, it gets all the elements right, and that's the difference.
The perfect man doesn't exist they said... Enter Ray Chad "Casanova" Chaddington White, the MC who wettens the panties of every woman he meets, who's so jacked every dude drools, is so skilled that in the world where the 7 greatest sorcerers stand as the pinnacle of power, he is considered to be in another dimension above them. This is his story... Animation / Art / General Visuals - 7/10 ----------------------------------------------- The spell effects are quite nice, using some 3D effects that don't hurt the eyes. Overall animations are fine, though you won't see any crazy combat movements or anything. The overall art style is clean and modern with enoughdetails in both characters and scenery to be enjoyable to watch. Sound / Music / Voice Acting - 7/10 ------------------------------------------ Opening theme was cool and, and we had some Fairy Tail'esque battle music snippets in the show as well. Voice acting is the usual high quality you'd expect from JP VA's, but all in all, nothing stands out too much. Story - 6/10 ------------- The story is rather unoriginal, though not necessarily bad. We get an overpowered MC with a tragic backstory who ends up joining the local magic school in order to get some friends and social development. And despite being a special sort of "outcast", he achieves just that. As he's about as close to a perfect man as you can imagine, he makes friends rapidly and has all kinds of fun and some minor adventures. We even get the ever so common school tournament arcs and everything. Unfortunately the story is stuck spending a fair bit of time setting things up, introducing the various characters and establishing relationships, that we don't get much of a grander storyline. We get some bits and pieces and the ending tries to go deeper, but it feels rushed. Ultimately you're stuck walking away with a feeling that you haven't really even scratched the surface of this fantasy world, which wouldn't be too bad, except you already know that you're unlikely to ever get S2, so you feel let down by the experience somewhat. Characters - 7/10 --------------------- The MC is basically the perfect man, which is something I do find enjoyable in a show. I'm tired of all the losers that litter the anime industry, as if the only way to get people to watch anime is to make an MC who's as miserable of a person as the demographic watching them. I much prefer to have characters who are inspiring instead. It's supposed to be make-belief, so why make-belief losers? Anyways, mr. Casanova isn't a particularly complex or interesting of a character at the core, though I definitely find it intriguing to have a one dimensional protagonist who embodies the ideal traits. Smart, hard working, talented, feels no shame, always compliments others, always helps, isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, understands the harsh realities of life and takes them in stride. One might find him borderline boring in his perfection, but again - I'd rather have boring perfection than a stupid clown like half the anime. Secondary characters have a fair bit of screen time as well. We have a side cast of adults who are MC's mentors and past combat buddies who have varied personalities, though their characters and their past don't get explored particularly much. Then we have the MC's school buddies, which basically just boil down to a small harem of girls, and two dudes who find mr. perfection to be amazing. None of the characters stand out too much. Everyone gets screen time, and they all get their minor story arcs to flesh them out, but the short runtime of the show, and the fair number of characters, does mean that it doesn't go very deep or simply feels rushed. --- Total - 7/10 --- A rather mediocre OP MC Fantasy anime, though I found it quite enjoyable thanks to an inspiring MC and a wide cast of secondary characters who are decently likeable. You won't find your next favourite waifu or a grand storyline to fawn over in this anime, but you might end up with a nice husbando to stare at for a while.
The anime adaptation was a huge disappointment. I don't understand for what reason they changed the story, characters, and art style in the adaptation. They might as well call it a separate anime. And if you for a split second thought that they improved the bad sides of the manga, making it easier to follow or making female characters more deeply written, you are wrong. They have made from a decently written story with a fair amount of cliche moments another "op mc" mess. The story became more cliche and predictable, with every scene spelt out to an embarrassing amount, and the same setup feeling completelydifferent in the worst way possible. The art style was also one of the most disappointing aspects, with the heroes' designs completely changed and the animation feeling stiff and the action scenes badly choreographed. To make matters worse, the characters' personalities were also changed, with the main hero's personality being the most noticeable. Their reactions also seemed forced and unbelievable. All in all, it is hard to enjoy the adaptation, and I strongly suggest reading the manga instead.
“The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World” is what happens when You have a bunch of cliche ideas and stitch them together with duct tape made of banality. We follow the escapades of one Ray White - a war orphan trained to become the most powerful sorcerer in the world. During battle he lost control of his powers and was injured. As part of his recuperation he enrols in a school for sorcerers. Basically the same shit You can see in all modern school fantasy animes. He makes friends. Tells them about his past like an idiot. They don’t care about it… like morons. He evengets a harem without a really good reason. All the not-bitchy girls at school seem to just flock to him. He lacks anything that could be mistaken for personality (another curse of modern anime) and is just polite, nice and utterly boring. Like most modern anime protagonists he is OP AF and doesn’t really encounter any struggles. It is shown that as a war orphan he was suffering as a child but to be honest I couldn't be bothered to care because it was barely shown. Even during his “suffering” he was pretty safe, with no injuries and that’s despite being found on a battlefield. His tragic past is handled with as much subtlety as driving a M1 Abrams tank through a glass shop. Apart from “bad” memories, once in a while he has no PTSD, no trust issues, no nightmares, not even a goddamn twitch or any kind of compulsive behaviour. His tragic past is used just for show and despite some scenes, does not influence him in any way. The supporting cast doesn’t fare any better. They are one dimensional, cliched cardboard cutouts You’ll find in any anime nowadays. Most of them are as boring as the MC and are there only for him to have an artificial motivation to show off his knowledge and skill. To be honest there isn’t a single original thought in the entire show. If You’ve seen “The Irregular at Magic High School”, “Chivalry of a Failed Knight” or even “Full metal panic” You basically know how this show will progress. I’m not even kidding. This show is basically an amalgamation of ideas from other, better shows. The worst part is, it doesn’t understand why those ideas worked in those shows and just copies them without reflection. When it comes to fight choreography the show is pretty much pathetic. A lot of still shots imitating action, a lot of magic bs and even when there is a sword fight there is little to no thought put into it. It makes “Fairy Tail” look like a Jackie Chan movie. Also the 180 rule is pretty much non-existent here and pulling a new skill out of their asses is a standard occurrence. There is no reason for anyone to watch this show unless You’re new to anime, lack good taste in writing or just a masochist.
Plot: The story is about a kid who attends some magical school where everyone is from a distinguished family of sorcerers, he is the only one who is of regular lineage. The first few episodes there is a lot of talk about this "Ordinary" student who is attending, a lot of the other students are skeptical, some are even looking down on him, only a few don't mind who he is. Over the course of the series, the protagonist wins the hearts of everyone and becomes involved in some high-scale conspiracy. ==================== Characters: The protagonist can be best described as a Mary Stu, he literally shows no flawsin his behavior, whatever he does - he's a professional at it - best wizard, best swordsman, best ladies man, best drag queen, best outdoorsman, best bodybuilder. The other characters don't have any identity, there is the one guy who originally started as an antagonist, I call him "Blue Haired Malfoy" who hated the protagonist for not being of respected lineage, but then the protagonist showed him what's what and then the suddenly had an epiphany, cried and cut down his hair and some of his face wrinkles disappeared and became a good guy. The protagonist's dormmate has no personality, just a good guy and a supporter, nothing to say. Then there are the girls in the show, they don't have personalities either, you can only tell them apart by their hair color - The Red Hair, The Purple Hair, The White Hair, The Pigtails, The glasses, The Albino, The Blonde, they all seem to like the main character and instantly develop a crush on him. Finally there are the mentors - all female cast of women who the protagonist grew up with during his life as a child in the army, they don't serve much purpose other than being plot armor and having zero personality and come to save the day when it's convenient. ==================== Visuals: The visuals are OK, not great, not horrible, I don't really care about them as long as they aren't 2004 level of Flash animation or stop motion or that weird CGI like in the anime Ajin. Some people complain how the animation is low quality, nobody cares about that, the animation is good, people just try to find things to be outraged about, because they have nothing going on in their lives. ==================== Sound: Sound is also OK, I hated the Intro and Outro songs, I never listened to Intro or Outro since I began watching anime in 2007 so I usually skip them, but this one has been so annoying with horrible vocals, horrible tempo or whatever, it's just painful to listen to even for a second or two, otherwise the sound was OK and the voice actors did a fine job. ==================== Verdict: The anime would have been called predictable, except it's totally unpredictable, but not in a good way, it's unpredictable, because things just happen and there is no reason for any of them. Like forced events to keep the plot moving. It's like the author of this story is either very young or very inexperienced and lacks the skills to convey a coherent and interesting story that pulls viewers/readers in. I watched the anime over the course of a few days and honestly, I was having a hard time following the plot and what's going on. It's all over the place. First it's the protagonist going to this school, I was thinking it was a school anime, but there is no academics in it besides a tournament in which the protagonist doesn't take place in, there are no classes, no difficulties, the only rivalry there was fixed itself magically in a few episodes. Then there is the shenanigans the protagonist has with the girls, I could not care any less about that, there was a lot of boring talk about feelings, fears and whatever, I just could not have been bothered to pay attention to that whiny drivel. And finally there was this overarching plot about some high-level conspiracy taking place, which somehow got mentioned in the beginning, then it was forgotten due to the tournament and the protagonist playing playboy with all the girls and also cross-dressing into a drag queen doing a better job at being a girl than all the other girls. Then we go back to the conspiracy thing for like 3 episodes, then everything abruptly ends with a happy ending and then we don't have an idea what the hell happened in the whole anime. There was some teaser after the outro about some brown-haired girl that looked like when the protagonist was cross-dressing into a drag queen so maybe that's a little sibling of his, but who cares, I won't watch a second season from this. I did not understand the whole thing, I did not get anything out of the anime or the story, pretty much nothing happened, it could have been a 10 min - 5 episode ONA or whatever and it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. I researched that it was made by a female novelist, I have no issue with that, but unless the anime is very different from the light novel, I don't see how something so boring, convoluted can be interesting to anyone.
Actual garbage. There's not one thing I found done well in this battle-harem-fantasy-piece-of-ass. The story didn't flow smoothly forward. It took unnecessary detours and there were too many sub-plots that didn't need to be there. I don't who the writers were writing for, because the dialogue between the characters made no sense. The MC says something vaguely coherent and smart (as if) and the other characters act like he's the wisest person alive. The characters were annoying as hell. Everyone of them. The MC akwardly flatters everyone and they get swayd by him like they haven't heard a compliment in their lives. The MC isthe most vanilla guy you could ask for. The animation quality worsened to the end, and it wasn't even that great to begin with. At times it looked like a diashow. Sound designing wasn't that bad but it didn't feel well thought out. Everything in it sucked, yet I still completed it cause I'm trash I guess.
Alright, I'll get straight to the point. This anime has a storyline that can be considered not too bad. Although some of the early episodes may make you feel strange, but as the story progresses, I feel that it's quite interesting and still worth watching. Then, this anime also has cool opening and ending songs that are enjoyable to listen to. However, there is one thing that makes me unable to recommend this anime to be watched, which is the quality of its animation. It's not that I don't appreciate it, but I think that the animation quality for this anime is quite poor. It makes theanime fail to represent its setting and plot properly. This anime should have epic fight scenes because of the abilities of its characters. However, due to the animation quality, the feeling when watching the fight scenes becomes less impactful for me as a viewer, and it makes me bored. So, in conclusion, this anime has a storyline that is actually just average. However, the poor animation quality fails to make the storyline more interesting and instead makes this anime quite boring to watch.
The opening is a hidden gem and one of my all time favorites. It was unskipable. The anime overall was very enjoyable somehow. Did not expect him turning into a girl randomly, but it was not bad. (He looked fine as hell). Maybe its just another isekai trash, but its not the worst. If you enjoy this type of anime its a must watch. The animation is alright, the plot is somewhat interesting, and the character development is basic, but its not bad. Hoping for a season 2, but sadly it will never come. Deserves a good 7/10 for me. May be worse for others.
