I am recommending this show to every hobby writer out there... to see how hard you can fumble simple concepts. I am not even going into the whole "kidnapping" aspect which you should already know to avoid (at least if you are trying to build a romance and not a horror show). But this show is a perfect example in how to not write a story. From setups that have no payoff (like Clarke saying that he doesn't want to take Leitica away from the village she started a new life in that never results in anything), to thematic cohesion (there are several side storieswhere the moral is to give someone or something its freedom even if you dislike that which obviously clashes with the main idea of the show), right until bottled character arcs (in which Prince Clarke notices, his decisions are the reason for why something is not as he would like, but instead of changing, he is just waiting for it to get better... and it does at some point), this show breaks with every basic rule of story telling. So if you are an upcoming writer and you believe that you are able to go against established story telling rules, watch this show to see how fast this can create a mess of a show. Oh and while we are at it, if you are an art student, maybe check out episode 7 to see which colours you should not combine, because they make it really hard to read the text (not that it matters, but it's fascinating that this show even fails this simple task).
Simply put, this was the worst show of Winter 2025. I don’t know who this series was made for, but it certainly wasn’t for me. An emotionally abusive story where no one respects the main character’s autonomy or allows her to make any choices, a weirdo prince who stalks her and a brother who enables the abuse. This is bad. The only reason it’s not getting a lower score is because Lettie was pretty, I found myself laughing at a few of her escape attempts and the art style was nice, but it’s one of the few shows where there’s nothing redeemable about it.Arranged marriage series are usually ass, but at least they tend to have some redeemable qualities. Maybe some nice world building, character development, wholesome, SOMETHING where you could be like “yea, this wasn’t great, but it’s ok” Kisaki is actually impressive in that it has NOTHING good going for it besides the main character design. This show accomplishes nothing in 12 episodes other than making it seem like the way to get the girl of your dreams is to stalk her, lock her in a castle and force your way on her. Yes, I get the twist that happened 8 episodes in is supposed to make all of this go away and make me feel sympathetic for the prince and Lettie, it didn’t. If anything it made me angrier and resent the author more for not just starting the series with that instead of subjecting us to two months of what amounted to emotional and mental abuse. Like seriously, the “I’m going to marry you no matter what and you’ll want it too” gimmick is so uncomfortable and borderline rapey that each week this tested my no drop rule. I ended up sticking this out which is probably one of the greatest accomplishments in my seasonal anime watching career, up there with finishing Gibiate, but this is bad, and not in a generic tropey way. As a shoujosei fan I know a lot of authors like taboo stuff or “toxic” relationships but this was just horrible and not even cute or sexy in a forbidden sort of way. As I said, the art style and character designs were the best part of the show. They look bright and aesthetically pleasing. Animation is horrible for most of the show, but there’s two episodes or so where it looks solid. Lettie’s seiyuu was great. Don’t be like me and waste time watching this. There’s many better shows to watch from this past season and coming up next season, no need to burden yourself with this. I want to escape Princess lessons gets 2, out of 10.
I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons — What kind of literacy crap is this? If your answer is Stockholm Syndrome, you're right! Let's all agree to disagree: with power comes responsibility...except that when this power is being used to hold someone captive, which turns up the dials to 11 of a love-hate affair, it is not a wise way to commit a rash act, the size of a politically-wedded marriage in the making. Yet, this is what mangaka Izumi Sawano concocted with his/her series of Kisaki Kyouiku kara Nigetai Watashi a.k.a I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons, a show where a princess gets heldcaptive and tortured for most of the strictly decentivized scenarios, only to want out when the prince consistently gaslights her into being in communion with other girls than the one he's wedded to. One thing's for certain: escape is foolproof; staying is insanity-proof. In fantasy shows, political marriages happen for 1001 reasons, which can lead to either good or bad outcomes depending on the situation at hand. But when you're the daughter of a duke who's betrothed to the crown prince from a young age and being forced to be subjected to strict education a.k.a princess lessons while your future husband goes around to cheat with other women, that's just a relationship of red flags all over. This is the scenario for the red-headed "not so Shirayuki-hime" of Leticia Dorman being roped into a political marriage for fame and fortune, something that her Dorman family desires but not the young girl herself, forced to take on princess lessons from headmistress Laila until the day of her certified marriage with Crown Prince Clarke. And enough is enough, for Leticia can't bear to see her going through hardship when Clarke himself is just fooling around like a dork and subjugating the red-headed girl into pure Stockholm Syndrome a.k.a forced love; that escape is imminent, and she'll risk it all just to get out of the control that her loved ones have on her. If it isn't already obvious enough, everything about this show ranges from cringe to pure weird, and even for a romance that's set in medieval times, arranged marriages don't get as creepy as this one does. I admire Leticia's relentless pursuit of freedom, but when her captors are one and far away, the many within the mansion itself, even having to think about escape, become second nature, guaranteed each and every time. And in hindsight, you'll definitely blame the crown prince for initiating this whole romance farce in the first place, but reality is far from the sweetest taste, because while Clarke genuinely had "love at first sight" with Leticia, it's at the circumstances of which he is in control of the entire situation, but he chooses to ignore it for the sole basis of teasing Leticia every now and then for her failures in escaping. Call Clarke every bit as deranged as you want; the red flags were there from the very start. And even though the contributors, ranging from Leticia's brother Nadir (who orchestrated the whole scenario) to the opposing kingdom outsiders of Prince Louis and his aide Lyle, are as ludicrous as they can come, this "comedy sitcom-cum-romance parody", while funny at times for breaking the 4th wall, is just painful to sit through and try to understand that this is a show where everything is "not" supposed to be taken seriously. I just don't get the gist of trying to subterfuge genres to create a thing that the outcome (as we know it) will turn out as bad as we foresaw. Not even the 3rd-rate studio of EMT Squared nor the OST does wonders. This is just bare-bones animation at its finest (while it does look beautiful at times), and the OST is just completely forgettable...or, I might as well say it: charred to the brim. A happy-go-lucky relationship that needs endless forms of psychological torture just to make ends meet? Sorry, no thanks, I'm outta here to puke my spit into a garbage waste trash for an infamy that we can "agree to disagree" is legitimate trash.
Here we are, 12 episodes into this rom-com, which began with a disastrous premise. We have Clark, a crown prince who, ten years ago, "decided" to take Leticia as his future wife against her will. Yes, we're in a medieval setting where, at the time, 1) women couldn't choose their spouses and 2) arranged marriages were common. Leticia doesn't want to be queen, not entirely because she dislikes Clark, but because she's a free spirit, think of her as the anime version of "Sissi." So, she tries to escape every chance she gets, and has been doing so for about ten years. During the show, we get toknow other characters, such as Leticia's brother, parents, brother-in-law, and even the Queen and King. All of the characters are unique and contribute to some very funny situations. At the end of the day, we have a romantic comedy set in a medieval world where our princess is, in fact, in love with the prince but HATES the royal world (and let's be honest, who can blame her?). Now, add to this that Leticia breaks the fourth wall every chance she gets, which adds even more funny moments. AND not only her, we see other characters doing this as well. This show deserves more love than hate, and I firmly believe it was one of the best Winter 2025 shows. The bad reviews it received were simply because people can't separate reality from fiction Below I kept the "review" (a rant) I wrote after 6 episodes watching week by week how people went scoring right away either 1 or 2, just because its doesn't appeal to their "morals". YES, WE KNOW IF THIS WAS SETTING ON A MODERN DAY WOULD BE A RED FLAG. I really love the MC, the girl is strong and really knows what she wants, however, she is the protagonist of a "medieval" (fantasy) setting, where women didn't have enought power or weren't taking as importart AND is also a romcom, so of course this show shoulnd't be taking as serious as other people want to. THIS IS FICTION, we know no means no, but as for the premise, narrative, characters and story, THIS ANIME IS GOOD ON IT'S GENRE. Since episode one, I am enjoying this too much.
Small preamble first. Before even watching this I couldn't help but notice its unnaturally low score and the wild reviews-to-views ratio. Reading through a few of the negative reviews however, it was quite clear something was off. They all read like sought after outrage, rather than legitimate reviews, to a point I felt none of them even watched it, so I just had to see the film for myself. After all, it just seemed like any other romantic series aimed at women. Now, going into the film with this predisposed knowledge I certainly didn't expect to ever enjoy it myself, as I expected some sort ofTwilight/50 Shades-esque woman oriented romance slop, which regardless of "troubling content" I likely wouldn't be interested in as a guy. Little did I know, and what is apparent from the very get go, compounding my suspicion of these "reviewers" actually ever watching the show, is that it's simply a silly, lighthearted comedy, primarily targeted for young women, or teen girls even. Now, enough "commentary", onto the actual film. The premise is quite simple, a medieval tale of this noble girl set for an arranged marriage (a concept clearly unfamiliar to many) with a prince she doesn't want to marry, at least initially. What follows are comedic hijinks of the to-be-princess clowning around, with a cast of equally goofy characters joining along the way. What definitely most surprised me about this series was the likability of all the characters, and that it was actually quite funny at times. I mean this is a straight up comedy, complete with your — *looks at camera* "get a load of this guy" — moments. It's nothing more, it's not creepy, it's not "dangerous" and the goofy-ass prince, the supposed horrible villain if others are to be believed, is almost always the butt of the jokes. It's genuinely sweet, wholesome and funny, and I'm not exactly the target audience for this, and clearly the people it reached aren't either, if they can't separate reality and a fictional medieval comedy. But I felt like putting out this positive review here, in hopes it might, however minuscule the effect, help the show actually find its way to its target audience. The production is certainly ass though... shame that.
I have read the review from a lot of people, so I acknowledge every problem about this anime. However I can still recommend this anime with big underline that, this anime is not to take seriously, and you are the problem if you trying to connect this anime into modern life. So let's start with the art, the art is the main weakness of this anime. I don't recall they use 3D or if so then it's not that many, so that's a plus but other than that, the art is really mid. It's not the worst I've seen, but it's also not as bad aspeople said And about the problem what people say. Yes this is a cheap "drama" comedy, just like afternoon drama that your momma seen on TV everyday. So you shouldn't take this anime seriously and you also shouldn't connect what prince doing to the mc as "abusing his power" because if you want to talk realistically, he could've force her to marry him and make much much more concubine instead of just one wife. Because you know, a king should have more than one wife in the past. Of course it's a big problem if you do that in current era, but that's exactly why I tell you that Negativity aside, this anime lowkey really funny. They bring old style comedy in the middle of loud = funny, which make it so fresh and funny. It's been really long time since I laugh so hard watching a comedy that I thought comedy anime was will never be funny anymore. But seeing how stupid the cast is, it spark my hope for future comedy anime that I've long lost. And that's why I rated it so high. However I am still agreeing what people say so I can't give it more than 8, but this is also note to myself that I really enjoy this anime The Heroine is really cute too, she's so active and seeking freedom in funny way. And that's being said she's the key of this show, if you don't like her, you won't like this show. So if you don't like her, and her interaction with the other cast in first 2 episode I recommend you to skip this anime. But if you like me who think she's really interesting and funny, come join me finish this show and give it more love it deserve!
Why was this show made this way? The vibe it gives off feels reminiscent of brain-dead cartoon shows aimed at children aged 2–3. While the concept it explores is undeniably intriguing, the logic behind most actions is utterly nonsensical! The conflict, which could have been portrayed with clever nuance, ends up feeling pointless and devoid of meaning. The romantic subplot, while present, takes a backseat, as the plot largely focuses on side characters and random, mundane side quests that are downright boring to watch. Binge-watching this show was impossible for me—it’s just too cringeworthy and absurd to handle in one go. The only reason I managedto finish it (albeit at a painstakingly slow pace) was because I wanted some sense of closure and satisfaction, as I genuinely loved the manga it’s based on. Sadly, even the ending turned out to be a letdown! After dragging its feet for so long, the show rushed through its conclusion, leaving it feeling disjointed and unsatisfying. The screenplay, direction, and animation are all, at best, barely average. However, I’ll give it credit for one thing—it’s lighthearted and not dark or depressing, so it could serve as simple background noise for those looking for something easygoing. And while the ending was far from satisfying, at least it was happy, so there’s that small positive.
Now I normally try to look at all the positives of a series and objectively rank it but DAMN, I found myself skipping through this anime because it was super cringe. Now don't get me wrong there are aspects of this show I enjoyed. I loved the initial idea of the MC leaving the crown prince after finding out he was 'engaged" to someone else. Similar to 7th Time Loop or Trapped in a dating Sim. Honestly they should have stuck with that story line and split the Princes character into two characters. The childhood sweetheart and the Prince. Had she left the prince andmaybe married the childhood sweetheart this anime could've been an 8/10. But instead we got some Stockholm syndrome BS where he essentially locks her up until she remembers she was "in Love" with him like 10 years ago. Although there are some cute moments in here I wouldn't recommend this unless you are REALLY bored. They should have split the prince's story line and made something more believable honestly. I would've been fine with the fake engagement, him coming after her thing, if he renounced his status and went to live the slow life with her too! That would have been more palatable but atlas we got this.
i don't know how to rate this anime to be honest… because i actually thought it seems like a promising anime but after watching the first few episodes, the execution felt rather flawed. the female character kept trying to run away but no matter what she do, she can't run away. then the prince kept abusing his power to tie down the female character with him. he seems more like a stalker to me. i think if the female character really do not want to marry the prince, she should have done something drastic instead of being manipulated by the prince.
