As dungeon-like treasure vaults started appearing throughout the land, more and more people began signing up as treasure hunters—risking their lives to obtain the vast riches and ancient relics inside. In the imperial capital of Zebrudia, the top hunter party is the Grieving Souls—a group of six childhood friends led by Krai Andrey, who is thought to be the strongest of them due to having a reputed wide array of skills. However, Krai actually has no special talent. His accomplishments are actually the result of his friends being overpowered. Krai has repeatedly attempted to leave the party out of fear his lack of aptitudes would one day cause his companions' downfall. Nevertheless, everyone around Krai thinks differently, making him feel obligated to remain the group's leader. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

1) Story Concept: The anime follows Krai/Kurai, a hunter in a world where hunters are typically strong adventurers. Unlike the ongoing trend of overpowered protagonists, Krai is a total weakling who relies solely on his luck (or misfortune). His constant misunderstandings and random events lead others to perceive him as the strongest and smartest hunter, creating a unique and comedic narrative. 2) Adaptation Quality: Studio Zero-G, though not known for many bigtitles, has done a great job with this adaptation. While not every detail from the manga and light novel could be incorporated, the anime effectively captures the story's essence and humor. 3) Voice Acting: The voice actors delivered exceptional performances, bringing the characters to life and enhancing both the comedic and emotional moments. 4) Action Scenes: The fight scenes, especially in the second arc, could have been improved with better choreography. Nevertheless, the action is engaging and serves the story well, keeping viewers entertained. 5) Overall Impression: The anime is a solid and underrated addition to recent releases, offering a fresh and comedic take on the adventure genre. Hoping for a second season, as Krai’s chaotic misadventures have much potential for further exploration. 6) Rating: Total rating: 8/10 Story Concept: 9/10 Adaptation Quality: 7.5/10 Voice Acting: 8.5/10 Action Scenes: 7/10 Overall Impression: 8/10 Hope this review helps those looking for an authentic take on the story and deciding whether to watch it. If you enjoy a mix of humor, misunderstandings, and a unique twist on the adventure genre, this anime is worth a try!
i hate it so much ! in most of these anime when the characters is bad behind he has special skill but here he has nothing ! and everyone praise him ? they never question it and ask to see a real fight without his relics ? And for most part, i was like "why don't you act like a relics give you a curse that make you level 1 and got destroyed afterward and you ask your teammates to train you ?" but no, druing the whole anime, he doesn't even try to improve in any part and act like he's the best and likehe control everything and let everyone work for him.. It just anger me so much ! They could have done better.. i've almost watched everything, thinking "maybe something good happens, maybe he will realise that he need to work out ?" BUT NO ! During the whole anime, he doesn't do anything ! And never will.. It angered me so much.. i was expecting more. And more importantly, who give these levels ? How is the exam ? are they like "ok you have TONS of money and debt ? ok here your level 8" because that all i see !!! Anyway if you want to watch an anime with a characters that is "weak" and that behind is strong (but not OP, just strong into something else) watch Ranking of kings, that's the kind of anime i was expecting, not in the quality (bc RK is very good) but for Characters
When your only power is plot armor and it has carried you to a position where one wrong step can easily result in your demise, does it make sense to wish for an early retirement. In Let This Grieving Soul Retire do we follow Krai, the guild master of the strongest guild and leader of the strongest adventurer group in the country. The only problem is that he is the only one in the party without any powers, a thing of course no one believes, which gives people a completely different idea of what he is actually capable of. The plot in the show is very much drivenby Krai trying to run both the guild and his adventurer party in a way that keeps him out of trouble. But this is easier said than done, since everyone often takes his word either as a lead to a greater truth or maybe a bit too literal. Which results in all kinds of situations where his luck has to come in and save him and those around him. Which gives a fairly interesting plot, that includes some nice action and sometimes humoristic moments as well, it just feels a bit lackluster at times. When it comes to the characters are they a bit of a hit and a miss. The thing they do great is put in a variety of characters for Krai to interact with, that each see him in a different light. They also know how to give characters some good details that slowly are unveiled as we get further into the show. What most are lagging behind in is actual character progression since we are meeting most characters after they have “peaked”, and there is no real progression in their opinions or skill sets, which makes the great unveiling of their secrets feel a bit dull, since it's not really followed up. From this it is clear they have some great groundwork for the characters, there is just not enough that really pushes them forward. For the concept of the show, which is having a weak person somehow leading the strongest, is it a concept seen elsewhere. That does not mean that the concept is bad, and the show is definitely doing the concept in itself justice, they are keeping a nice play between people seeing Krai as he is and who they think he is. Which makes it quite interesting, but what makes it fall a bit behind is that they also sometimes play on ecchi scenes and humor. This just draws away from the original concept and takes room from the places that could use a bit more attention, which is slightly disappointing. Animation wise is it fairly good, with it having smooth animation through both in and out of combat. There are a few moments that seem a bit more clunky, but they have generally attention to the characters movement and a great choice in colour pallets. The show overall is not a bad show, it is just falling short in some places which is resulting in it being less captivating. So if you are really into this type of show and want to see more of it, then i would definitely recommend it, but if you want something with more detail in their characters and plot, then i would watch something else.
5.5/10 - Watchable for the few fun parts, fairly appealing characters, and the OP theme. But imo, nothing to lose missing out on this, and not much to gain for doing so. (Don't feel like making a format for this.) As fairly funny as it has been, and as fairly appealing the characters maybe, this entire show just felt like it was about nothing at all. None of the story stuff were really interesting. And when it comes to Krai's 'want-to-retire' situation, they didn't really do a good job with that neither. Krai went from being someone who couldn't careless and be bothered about anything but always endsup in very fortunate lucky situations anyway, to just another harem dude who knows what he got and takes advantage of it. The other characters lost any potential to be interesting as they become nothing more than one-dimensional characters who are obsessed on Krai's "greatness". The gimmick being poorly executed pisses me off since a big reason to watch this show is to watch him get pulled into problematic situations due to his misconceived "greatness" as he tries his darndest to get out of it, only to end up being lucky and getting the obstacle dealt with unintentionally. But by the latter part of the show, he's basically pretty much self-aware of everything, and it just becomes about the shenanigans of a dude who takes advantage of his "fake" status to get what he wants. It becomes much less interesting without the obliviousness and unintentional solutions of the protag. Sitri could've been an interesting character after the cult stuff but was then relegated to being just another obsessed waifu of Krai. There wasn't even a low-tier mini-boss for them to deal with to end the season; the rivals that they built up near the end just became a laughingstock for nothing-- elevating no character and not adding anything to the story even just for the last arc of the season. My only takeaway from this show is the OP theme, which reminds me of the good ol' grand energetic OP themes of the past. It hypes me up every time even though there's nothing about the show that I look forward to.
A deceivingly interesting show blessed with an exceptional amount of effort and love by its studio I would not blame anyone who glanced at Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai's description and wrote it off as bog-standard seasonal slop; however, that assumption couldn't be any farther from the truth. The premise is simple and generic enough: the setting focuses on a guild formed by 6 childhood friends who dreamed of being the strongest treasure hunters, and which have since made their dreams come true. 5 of them are truly superhuman prodigies who stand at the peak of humanity's potential... while the remaining one, the show's MC,is actually extraordinarily weak in every regard. However, due to extreme, non-stop coincidences and misunderstandings, everyone can't help but believe he is some galaxy-brain genius which no one can even begin to understand. And yes, this unequivocally sounds like generic slop plot, not to mention it almost invariably overstays its welcome in other series which have tried it; but in truth, thanks to some very interesting world-building, this show actually makes this plot work consistently well to a surprising degree, and it does so despite being more focused on comedy than on any serious plot relevance Now that the introduction is out of the way, onto the good stuff. Instead of describing what happens in the story or the overall quality of the show like most reviews have already done, I'll try to convey what makes this show shine amongst its peers. We've all seen the sort of seasonal slop which introduces 40 different characters per episode, each as deep as a puddle and about as interesting. In this show's case, the opposite happens: despite knowing this story revolves around 6 friends, by the end of this season only three of them were properly introduced, with the remaining three being mentioned sometimes and sharing about 1 minute of total screentime between them. And yet, despite only using half of the main cast (so far), there is never a dull moment in the entire 13 episodes; there's always a new plot point leading smoothly into the next one, and throughout these situations we get to see our main characters being fleshed out much more deeply than you'd expect. It's an almost constant, steady flow of major plot points happening, leading into comedic misunderstandings, leading into interesting reveals regarding the main cast and/or the world in which they live, on and on and on. Hell, so much happens in this season that they couldn't fit any more of the main cast even if they tried, and I mean that literally; which leads us to the next point By now, everyone is aware of how slipshod animation gets for some series. Everything is lacking in effort, seemingly set up to churn out the lowest quality product that's still barely acceptable, and cutting every corner has basically become an expectation rather than an exception. Precisely for that reason, it's surprising to see a show made with as much love as this one. Don't misunderstand: Zero-G isn't ufotable, you're not going to be blown away by Fate-tier animation sequences. Rather, while the art quality is decidedly above-average, what really stands out is the extra effort they clearly invested. The show's OP is a great example of this: across the entirety of this season, you'll only get to see the entire OP a total of 4 times; more often than not, the show will cut into the OP all the way till its halfway point, and they even ditched it entirely for the last episode (and no, it's not because there was some high-stakes tense moment, they kinda just did it for the hell of it). The ED isn't safe either, and every so often an episode will steal time from it too. Rather than trying to cut corners and do as little as possible, the studio tried to cram in as much as they could per episode instead; so when I meant they literally wouldn't be able to fit in the other 3 main characters even if they tried, it was no exaggeration There's also all manner of little things that demonstrate Zero-G's continuous efforts to breathe extra life into this show: the ED always ends with some of the cast incorporating a bit of the next episode's plot into the music, and the OP always has a little snippet of conversation in the middle that's relevant to what's about to happen. A particularly humorous example happened towards the later episodes when a group goes into a bar and starts making trouble only to get their shit pushed in: everyone starts cheering, one of the bar girls jumps onto the stage and starts singing the ED, and all the patrons stand up and join along. The show is filled with this sort of stuff, which really sets it apart from all the low-effort series that gets pushed out every season I could go on and on about all other kinds of things, like how good the OP music is, how interesting and unexpectedly deranged some of the main cast is portrayed as, the small world-building intricacies that make this world feel actually dangerous even when this isn't the kind of series where anything overly tragic would ever happen, etc. But honestly, those are just the extra icing on the cake. The bottom line is, Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai isn't the next 86 in terms of depth or quality, but it was made with a lot of soul, and perfectly does what it sets out to do: being a light, interesting, and consistently-entertaining fantasy comedy show If any of you ever watched a generic braindead seasonal series and thought "Damn, this might have been nice to watch if it didn't suck and didn't look like a newbie drew it", you owe it to yourselves to check this out and see what the genre can become when it rises above the slop
This show is one of the rare comic fantasy gems (bordering on parody but not a parody). Every episode will give you atleast one outburst of loud laughter, if you understand it. Animation - 8/10 It is good. Fights and magic scenes are enjoyable. But it is not the best. Screenplay - 10/10 This is what makes it so great. The comic timing and subplots/plots and the thoughts of people are so accurate and amazing that it makes this whole anime shine bright. Songs - 9/10 The opening narrator, precap of next episode and ending tracks are quirky and fun. The story starts after a Party of OP adventurers (and their leader) becamethe strongest in land. Their party became clan and the leader became clan leader. But he has his own quirks and secrets. Overall - 9/10
1) Writing: It's rare for any piece of media to so excellently portray a deceptive, intelligent and yet humble mastermind to this degree. I've read multiple reviews that seem convinced Guild Master Krai Andrey truly is a frail, incompetent fool that only achieved his current position through luck and help from his 'stronger' and more 'talented' childhood friends. I would consider this outlook an excellent demonstration of Krai's machiavellian and calculating nature; that he's managed to delude even these naive viewers with his many layers of measured schemes reminiscent of Gaius Julius Caesar himself. Personally, I'd suggest those people look past Krai's appearance and seemingly timid or feeble impressionand recognise that each and every move he makes is deliberate, surgical and potent. 2) Animation: The animation was kinda mid.
TL;DR: "So, what does this mean? It means the show decided to put off literally every single group of people who might be interested in watching it. If you like the MC being OP, you'll just be frustrated by Krai's incompetence. If you dislike the MC being OP, you'll be frustrated by how competent the side-characters are. And so on. In addition, whichever group you belong to, humans are naturally put off by undeserving people accomplishing things in the world - and that's Krai in a nutshell. He does NOT have the charisma and he's far too big of an asshole by the end tomake a watcher forget this instinct. I'm not even talking about the insane luck, but moreso about the relics (which he has to rely on to do anything). He either buys these relics or is gifted them by his OP friends, so they're just not satisfying to watch. It's the complete antithesis to the "struggler" character people are usually drawn to in shows, who deserves everything he's got and obtained it through hard work. Krai is the opposite." ~ Me (just now). Main: Kinda Good (6.5) / 10 This category rates how well the show executed its premise / fits into its genre. Overall, I'd rate this aspect as just fine. Krai Andrey is an extremely weak dude everyone is convinced is super strong / smart due to his insane luck. Watching a string of misunderstandings continue to evolve into something larger and larger just to loop back to that "Krai was once again right, though completely unintentionally" somehow never got stale. However, it's extremely easy to get frustrated about. For one, Krai really is just dumb, weak, and has zero shame. People who were expecting him to "train" or try to get stronger - no, Krai's whole character is being lazy, disinterested and uncaring. If you don't like that, don't watch the show. Two, people who are expecting Krai to use his wits to win battles will also be disappointed, because Krai has no wits to use. While he shows some critical thinking ability in the earlier episodes, as the season continues he'll be relying more and more on luck. No, he's not a "commander" type of character, he doesn't actually lead his party - they just show up and are OP enough on their own not to need a plan. Three, people who are watching the show because they were tired of OP protagonists and actually just want to watch someone weak with zero motivation, interest, etc. triumph over other more capable than him through sheer luck - yes, he does triumph over others, but in the most unsatisfying way possible. This is because, while not traditionally OP, Krai has this ability called "have my OP friends show up through sheer luck to save my ass". This means that if you're tired of ONE OP protagonist, well, too bad, we now have like 3. Which means that Group 4 who's here just for a good parody to laugh at - too bad, cause this is at times just a honest-to-God crappy isekai except the protagonist is sometimes relegated to a side-character, and the side-characters unironically do the stuff you'd want to see parodied. People who like comedies to have meaningful character work done will be disappointed because the show oftentimes baits you to expect it, but then make a joke out of it (there's a scene where a teacher berates her student to the point of tears, and you'd expect that to be a character moment for either of them but it's just played off as a joke. You might say "Ok, but this is a comedy anime!" and yeah, I'd agree, if just an episode earlier they didn't give us flashbacks and backstories for several characters we're meant to sympathise with). And people who want their comedies to have carricature characters will also be disappointed cause there's just enough charaacterisation for it to feel bloated. People who like plots in comedies will be disappointed cause the plot mostly SUCKS, and the people who don't care about story and just want to laugh will be disappointed cause there's 3 full episodes unironically completely devoted to the story. So, what does this mean? It means the show decided to put off literally every single group of people who might be interested in watching it. If you like the MC being OP, you'll just be frustrated by Krai's incompetence. If you dislike the MC being OP, you'll be frustrated by how competent the side-characters are. And so on. In addition, whichever group you belong to, humans are naturally put off by undeserving people accomplishing things in the world - and that's Krai in a nutshell. He does NOT have the charisma and he's far too big of an asshole by the end to make a watcher forget this instinct. Krai is the opposite - that's a dealbreaker for some. The show works best in the earlier episodes, with medium stakes and Krai being active in the story (involuntarily). However, this can happen only a certain number of times, because, if Krai is actually in danger semi-often, it begs the question for the characters around him "wait, is this guy even strong?" This means the show basically locked itself into ALWAYS having to use other OP Grieving Souls in order to keep the illusion of strength. As such, I won't be watching Season 2, cause I think the cracks are beginning to form and things just go downwards from here. The worst parts of the show are when the premise (even if weak, still by far the most entertaining part of the show) is just ignored for some bizarre reason and the side-characters just play things out between each other, ocasionally attributing some random thing to some other random thing Krai said at some random point in time (where "That damn Thousand-Tricks...!" more often felt like a buzzword than an actual joke). A real chore to get through. But even so, the show somehow manages to be entertaining, and, since this is a comedy anime, that's what the "Main" thing for me is. Characters: Good (7.0) / 10 As I said, the anime sometimes will blur the line between genuine characterisation and making a joke. As such, it's difficult to judge its characters for real. Either way, I'd say most of the characters fall into the "just likable enough" territory, and I have something to say on just a couple. 1. Krai. Krai in episodes 1-4 and in episodes 10-13 is a completely different character. In episodes 1-4, while dumb and inconsiderate, he always means well. Now, he's a bit of an asshole. The best way I can illustrate this is his relationship with Tino. Tino pretty much idolizes Krai, and is convinced that everything he does is for a reason, as well as correct. The show often-times infantilizes her (which is common for anime so maybe I'm looking into it too much), so this makes the viewer see her as a hothead they can empathise with (as in, "aww, she's just a kid"). The reason I'm giving this intro is that when you see that trust betrayed, it puts you off an extra bit (especially when it's by the protagonist with no repercussions), especially when that person isn't even deserving of it in the first place. In Episodes 1-2, Krai sends Tino to a really dangerous dungeon because he's too lazy to go there himself. However, he doesn't know the dungeon is dangerous because he didn't read the quest carefully before accepting it. This is incompetence, not malice - great. It makes for an engaging plot with a touch of humour to it since Tino believes everything Krai does is with a reason (which couldn't be further from the truth). When he realizes his mistake, Krai both rushes to save her, throwing his own well-being to the wind, as well as says he'd be fine with Tino using the rest of her party as meat-shields if it meant she survived, which is a really cool way to both make him an asshole and someone who gives some of Tino's love back. Later on in the episode. he's ready to be the meat-shield himself in order to save her, which, again, is sweet. In episode 11, though, Krai is confronted by an entire party of people who are convinced he has it out for them (again, a humorous streak of misunderstandings that's quite fun to watch unfold). However, while Krai does attempt to negotiate and resolve this conflict peacefully at the start, he allows hot-headed Tino to fight 1v5. Now, as I said, Tino is a bit of a child who idolizes Krai - and he knows it (evidence to this later). As such, allowing her to fight is already extremely weird. However, he doesn't intervene in the fight until Tino is legit KNOCKED OUT by getting slammed into the ground with such force that the cement floor CRACKS. He doesn't seem to care much, has his MC moment (showing he could have dealt with the situation from the start and stopped the fight whenever he wanted, just didn't), then leaves. To me, these two have a father-daughter type relationship, so, seeing this unfold just made me uncomfortable rather than making me laugh. Even the opposing party is disgusted by what Krai did, BUT THIS DOESN'T MAKE IT OK. Even if the anime is self-aware, it doesn't mean anything if the protagonist is a piece of shit who lets his pseudo-daughter get slammed into the ground and not feel anything about it. A similar thing can be said for his relationship with Sitri. While she's a reasonably fun character at first, she quickly becomes just someone obsessed with Krai, who you quickly realise is, again, a piece of shit and that this relationship exists simply because it's beneficial to him. For one, he owes a 10-digit debt to Sitri - which, okay, again, incompetence and carelessness, so still funny. However, Sitri then proceeds to be so painfully nice towards him (she spends even MORE money on recharging his relics, is ready to give up on an experiment she's been doing for years which cost her a lot of money and effort just because it'd make Krai unable to fulfill his stupid whim, and takes the time to help Krai again and again) which is then made fun of. Krai knows she's deeply in love with him, and realises that even if he got her billions of coins in debt, "she'd just forgive him without saying a word". This is sociopath behaviour, he knows exactly what people think of him and just uses it to his advantage. So, right now, the watchers are thinking "Okay, Krai is bad, Sitri good, feel bad for Sitri wait for character development for Krai" until the showrunners say "'kay, enough of that!" and I'm supposed to laugh at Sitri saying that Krai can absolve his debts with his body, showing she's always being doing this stuff out of horniness?? 2. Sitri. The same old tale of characters only being as smart as the writer, and Sitri is too smart for such a dumb show. Why they kept giving this girl badass scenes is beyond me. If you love cute girls talking in a baby voice but saying deeply disturbing things with a smile, then you'll love her. As for me, I'm tired of this trope. Her two names are literally Sitri Smart and Deep Black - you can gauge the insane depths of her characterization from that alone. She constantly mutters to herself, making basic logic sound like nuclear physics, has a plan for everything, but has to do all of it in an edgy way. Not crazy for it. The harem thing she ends up in, being obsessed with Krai is such a waste. 3. Tino I don't actually have much to say on Tino unfortunately, which is a shame cause she's the best character in this show and probably the only one with any depth to her. I wish she was more focused on, since she has a really fun dynamic with Krai. 4. Other characters The villains sucked, some of the side protagonists were great (Arc's really lovable, Krai's secretary, Liz is fun sometimes, and so on). Visuals: Below Average (5.0) / 10 They should've just given up on animating the fights. Facial expressions are mostly great, except when we go into the edgy part of the episode. Whether it's Krai, Liz, Sitri - they all have a separate MC face which just looks goofy. There was a 3D mecha which the characters fought against and that was just awkward. Music and Sound: Almost Perfect (9.5) / 10 A couple of awkward lines and an OST I really didn't like but which kept playing all the time. Otherwise, great OP, awesome ED, great voice acting, and the music is super well-timed. Enjoyment: Very Enjoyable (7.5) / 10 Even with all its faults, I'd say most of this show is a 8.0/10. It really is entertaining. However, there's just so much bad in it. I'm the type of person who really doesn't mind and can watch almost anything. But if I see someone say "this is the worst show ever!!" like, I get it. It IS funny though, and I really recommend watching at least the first 4-or-so episodes. If you're really hooked, do yourself a favour and skip episodes 7-9 if you don't care about the story (and you shouldn't).
Let This Grieving Soul Retire — Man, haven't I ROFLed so much just for insignificant things that need not be escalated to a degree, but I'm glad that this show did to give its not-so-innovative take to a whole new level of insanity. Maybe it's high time that we should admit that anime should be unadulterated fun once again? It's too often nowadays that the AniManga industry is selling too much of the seriousness, with series that invoke fun that's in-your-face isn't compensating much against the windfall of the ratio between it and the fun that you get for shows like Fall 2022's Kage no Jitsuryokushani Naritakute! a.k.a The Eminence in Shadow, providing nonsense in the face of comedy. This is novelist Tsukikage's Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai a.k.a Let This Grieving Soul Retire, a series that is very much inspired by said series, that takes place in the usual typical fantasy world, but still has all of the Cid Kagenou traits of BS ideologies that make it stand out. The story of childhood friends who grow up to become notable adventurers themselves, this is the starting point of Grieving Souls, the group that would grow to become famous as the elite party, each and every member of which would become infamous for their own titular monikers. But in the modern day and age of the matter, where treasure hunters thrive by raiding treasure vaults to find relics all over the world (similar to that of your typical adventurers hunting for monsters shtick), and aside from immeasurable wealth, fame, and power, money is the root of all evil. And one person resides at the heart of it all: Krai Andrey, the 20-year-old man who leads Grieving Souls, as well as the established First Steps clan (that's made up of leaders from elite parties, friends, and foes otherwise) that all matters surround every fiber of his being, related or not. The one problem about Krai: as the title shows, he wants to retire from the profession, but due to his position, he can't exactly have the safe way out. And thus, so begins the level of bullshitery and insanity that this man has on his hands, being like Cid Kagenou to direct people to do things on his behalf, disguising the real fact that he's a blatant weak sucker who used other people to elevate himself to God-like status as the only Level 8 treasure hunter with his "Thousand Tricks" moniker. And I swear, this guy's the real deal when it comes to being a Cid Kagenou impressionist, more than anything. However, don't be fooled by what the show has to go offering for the cast within Krai's circle of friends, because there are MANY. The First Steps clan may have been on both the receiving and rejecting end of elite adventurers who have come and gone altogether with their various parties, but most of them are no joke at all with their high levels and various expertise that make them the people who they are. The Grieving Souls party consists of people like: Level 4 hunter Tino Shade who has a crush on Krai; the Smart sisters of Level 6 hunter Stifled Shadow Thief Liz and Level 2 hunter Deep Black Alchemist Sitri; Level 6 hunter Thousand Swords Swordsman Luke Sykol (and many more who are not featured in the anime), Each and every member of the Grieving Souls is a force to be reckoned with with their various expertises, so much so that Krai WILL always force himself to avoid his own people as much as possible. Being a Cid Kagenou-like character only meant that Krai will and will not get into the graces of the parties, let alone the First Steps clan of leaders that see him as a vulnerability for his weak traits, aside from the Level 8 status being his "true" form of impression for just about anyone. From the clear yandere-ness (or even quite close to the point of Sadodere-ness) of Liz Smart being obsessed about Krai and undermining her disciple of Tino being the weak-ass sorry trait that doesn't match to her strengths, to the Undere-ness of Tino just being subservient towards Krai that she would do anything for him to accept her unadulterated feelings of love, this man's a meat shield for him and him alone, maybe even the luckiest fella to "swipe left" to almost every situation that he could wipe his dirty hands clean of and let loose himself, because he genuinely doesn't care at all, and wants nothing but love and peace in his life. The madness of the delusion of Krai is quite up there, but beneath all of the BS in his life, his decisions being the troll that moves people to worship at his feet is quite the hilarity, despite his emotionless facade that's all but hiding most of his ulterior motives. If anything, character development by the masses plays a more important role in this show than the story itself. The only negative point of the show would be its production; I wished that it could be better, knowing studio Zero-G can actually produce decent series alright. However, the staff team comprising of people whom are a bunch of no-names, that was the biggest fear going into the anime, and I can safely say that despite looking average, it gets the job done for the most part. The music was something else, though. While it worked for the most part, I can't help but push it to the background, not because it's bad, but because it's distracting at times. This is especially with the use of the narrator (which actually adds to the hilarity of setting up the episode scenarios) that adds to the comedy factor of the show, which I can't quite stand at the very beginning, but ultimately getting used to it since it's used prominently. Both Lezel's OP and Pmaru-sama's ED are decent in their own right, though I can't say that I got invested in the rather eclectic visuals of either of them. At the end of the day, if Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai a.k.a Let This Grieving Soul Retire is a Cid Kagenou impressionist anime, then that's what both you and I are here for in the first place. Despite the initial confusion of the terms (which you have to get used to understanding the larger-than-life "plot"), all is gone when you put the one key factor that'll make the series shine at its best: the manipulator that is Krai Andrey and his BS shmuck tactics that have everyone being trolled for better or for worse. It's not a perfect show, but for what it is, it's comedy unhinged for the right purposes and typical fantasy on the other to invoke mixed feelings on its execution.
Honestly? Not much to say about this anime, it was a 6.5~ish. Really nice in the beginning but got slow at the end, probably because the main character just got stale. This anime is a fantasy-adventurers guild type anime. You got adventures, they got jobs they need to do, the anime mostly felt like slice of life rather than action, especially because they cut off a lot of fighting scenes, probably to save budget, but still, it is IMPRESSIVE how much luck a main character can have, that's probably his superpower that makes him equal to his childhood friends insane abilities. Another thing about thisanime is that it had some weird fanservice shots sometimes, as if it was trying to do some fanservice but failing very badly at it. In the end, this anime was a lot more chill than I expected, with decent animation and good fighting scenes sometimes, but budget saving tricks and weird shots other times, it's a fine anime to waste some time to.
The characters were nicely drawn and some of them were even funny written, but the development of them was not really there. They remained two-dimensional and you did not get to know them much better. The anime had some parallels to Eminence in the Shadow, but to me it always felt like it stayed way behind. Also, the word-building was not really interesting because you did not get explicit information about the place, the world, the rules, etc. All in all, you really have to enjoy the genre of "somehow overpowered by dumb luck (but in reality underpowered) main character" anime... On the positive side, the main character'sgimmick worked out most of the time, and stayed consistent in role.
I recommend this anime because I think it has some comedy that is quite funny to watch, so it won't make you bored. Straight to the point, this anime brings the concept of misunderstandings from subordinates as well as the people around them, This kind of thing is actually not something new, but it depends on the delivery, if the anime is delivered badly, then I'm sure you will feel disgusted seeing this misunderstanding. Like the anime I've watched before. For a great opening and ending song. The voice acting and soundtrack, graphics, are also good, but for the character designs there are some that seem less pleasingto the eye, especially for the main character. The downside for me is that there is no further information on why the MC is considered strong! Does he only rely on the fame of his friends so that the MC is also considered strong? Is it because of the leader of the strongest Clan? Or is this MC strong but just too lazy to show his strength? If that's the case, why does MC use Pusaka as a protector? My questions are still around there, and there are probably many more questions I want to ask, But yes, this is because of the limited broadcast time so that some parts were skipped, or it was intentionally not shown too much, I don't know! The point is you have to watch this misunderstanding anime! Even though the score is quite good, or even the average score and is now 7.10, I think this anime deserves more than that.
In the world, nothing is perfect. Of course, this is no excuse for any product, including this title. However, I wanted to express my admiration for Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai, highlighting its strengths, possible weaknesses, and something special (read to the end for that). Let’s start with a brief overview: Anime: Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai Rating: 8.3–4/12 Genres: Adventure, Fantasy, Comedy, Ecchi-oriented Worth Watching: Definitely 1. MusicLet’s start with the musical part: opening and ending. I always evaluate these two elements because anime, as a product, consists of many components that come together as a whole. My first "wow" moment came when I started watching this title. Opening: The music is far from being just another generic, “throw-it-in-because-we-need-something” track. It’s engaging, energetic, and, most importantly—what I consider the hallmark of great openings—the animation blends seamlessly with the music, creating something cohesive and harmonious. This is rare. I can name a few similar examples from other notable titles: the opening of Death Parade, Kekkai Sensen (Season 1), and FLOW's Sign from Naruto. Amagi Brilliant Park also comes to mind. A good example of this attention to detail is the scene where the "witch," one of the ghost crew members, twirls her staff in the opening. Ending: While not as strong as the opening in terms of animation and content, it still has an engaging melody that pleasantly surprised me. What stood out most in this area was the original integration of the opening into the anime itself. The music starts early with energetic tones, showing the director’s touch of genius. I never skipped the opening because it was seamlessly woven into each episode and even amplified the show’s overall energy. 2. Plot Let’s address the elephant in the room: the anime doesn’t have enough screen time. Episodes fly by quickly, leaving you wanting more. Unsurprisingly, a second season has been announced. By the end of Episode 13, even though the "second arc" seemed complete, the ending felt slightly abrupt, almost nudging you to watch Episode 14—except there isn’t one (yet). The plot of Season 1 is engaging and original but doesn’t quite reach OMG, THIS IS EPIC, MIND-BLOWING, I’M LOSING IT! levels. It feels closer to slice-of-life territory than grandiose, epic storytelling. Perhaps the manga or light novel dives deeper—I don’t know; I only watch anime. That said, the plot doesn’t drag, and it’s consistently interesting to watch. What’s surprising is how little the show relies on overused tropes and recycled ideas. It feels fresh—especially the setting of the main city, which doesn’t look like the cookie-cutter towns we see in most isekai anime. Respect for that! The pacing is measured, unhurried, with a focus on humor and character interactions. 3. Characters The characters are a mixed bag. Some are great, others less so, and then there’s the blatant fan service (hello to all the secretaries from the Hunter Association). Krai (MC): A very cool design, fun to watch and follow. Ark: Another standout—his exaggerated portrayal with all the "shining face" effects and such is both cliché and entertaining. The Head of the Association: A solid character, though he feels somewhat derivative, though I can’t pinpoint from where. Tino: Pure fan service, and there’s no escaping that. Liz Smart: I could worship her as a goddess. Sitri Smart: Equally praiseworthy, though not quite to Liz's level. Liz's character is more vivid and well-developed, while Sitri feels underexplored. She wasn’t placed in situations that would allow her to shine as brightly, which could be an issue. Then again, this might just be her personality. If so, it’s a minor drawback. Some characters appear early on and then vanish for a while, which isn’t great for storytelling. Others exist solely for fan service, which I can’t support and outright criticize. 4. Dialogues Believe it or not, I watched it dubbed in my native language, and I was impressed, amazed, and thoroughly entertained. Since I haven’t watched it in the original Japanese or with subtitles, I can’t judge those aspects. 5. Art & Animation The art is good—solid but not top-tier like Madhouse. Still, I didn’t notice any quality drops or poorly drawn faces like in Black Clover. While not Madhouse level, it’s comparable to Grand Blue (apparently the same studio). The humor sometimes had me laughing out loud—props for that too. As for "wow-animation moments"—explosions, vibrant colors, and rainbows—there weren’t many that stood out. Neither were there godlike battles. It’s good but far from perfect. 6. Verdict This anime might not be for everyone. Why? Because its heavy orientation toward a male audience might be off-putting for some. There’s plenty of ecchi content—perhaps too much for certain viewers. Personally, as a "man of culture," I never find such content excessive (kidding… or am I?). In conclusion, Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai is a fun attraction. By the way, the MC reminded me of Juro from Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo! There’s a similar vibe to that anime overall. Maybe the same author or director? I’m not sure. This anime doesn’t have the most unique story, but it’s still enjoyable if you’re just in the mood for some light-hearted comedy and don’t expect too much. The art style is pretty average—nothing that stands out, but it works for what the show is going for. I didn’t really focus on how well-rounded the characters were, but their reactions felt realistic enough to make the jokes land. Whether you’ll enjoy it depends on your taste—if you’re into something like The Eminence in Shadow or the manhwa I’m Not That Kind of Talent, you might like it. Otherwise, it might not hit the mark for you.
This was fun. Basically "sasuga ains sama" 2.0. MC's super power is plot armor. You would think it gets a bit repeatative but it does well to keep you engaged. It's a shame we couldn't see the other members of the party, but the ones that came on board were interesting. The sisters were absolute psychopaths and it was lovely. It really highlighted krai as a seriously normal dude in the middle of some really screws lose type characters. For fans of overpowered characters, u get that from the other party members while krai is the point of comedy. Worth a watch.
I wish I could retire early 😂, usually in fantasy anime I'm used to seeing protagonists with the attitude of a virgin but here he doesn't get enough flirting for that, sometimes I get confused in the plot if the protagonist is really useless or if he's hiding his power and is using false modesty because he's a complete bum but it's interesting how his relics work almost automatically, the sisters are interesting and provide good comic relief along with the tino, I missed the protagonist's fights and they could have put more of his fights, the story itself could have been better but it'snot bad at all, the animation is good, overall it's a good anime but it could have been better, if you have that time available it can be good to distract yourself
Let my Grieving Soul retire brings to mind Overlord in that both main characters are understood to be geniuses by their comrades and enemies alike, albeit the viewer is privy to the fact that both characters are actually just bumbling their way through life, and the odd comment or action just coincidentally gets misunderstood as incredible foresight. However while most modern isekai anime in one way or another follow the trend of making their characters incredibly overpowered, Grieving Soul swings counter, perhaps too much in making Krai frustratingly incompetent. The narrative the story pushes is those that know Krai see him as a God andan all powerful Lvl 8 treasure hunter, but it feels like there isn't enough shown in the anime at least to validate the feelings of the characters around him. It either requires a heavy suspension of disbelief, or accepting that many characters in this world don't have critical thinking skills. The myth around Krai could've been more believable if we had some scenes where he is able to defeat an enemy coincidentally or if the myth was around purely his strategy skills instead of his combat abilities as well, but alas that is not the case. This glaring issue aside, if you enjoyed the type of comedy that Ainz provided in Overlord, you'll most likely enjoy Grieving Soul as well. The main party mates Liz and Sitri Smart even resemble some of the Overlord floor guardians in a similar lack of humanity. Not to say that this is a copy by any means, its just the easiest anime that comes to mind to make comparisons. The animation is all around solid, and the voice actors did an exceptional jobs bringing their characters to life. The ED for season one had a unique charm as well. If you're able to get past the issues described with the MC it's a good anime worth a watch.
Finally, a good fantasy thats actually a fantasy. The plot is pretty solid, no overarching problem but some pretty damn fun side adventurous, 6/10 the animation was ok I guess, nothing special 7/10 I usually don't mention music in my reviews, but damnnn, the music and sound design was top notch, and the ED was brilliant 9/10 ok, now for the main event, the characters. The characters made this show for me, they are all incredibly lovable and play off each other so incredibly well its almost contagious. The main character krai is amazing, although sometimes he does make you wonder if he's actually just a bad person. Hislaid back but ultimately successful leadership causes some great interactions with the cast, which his all mostly tropey, but really makes the show in my opinion. 8.5/10 overall: 7
Plot MC is a weakling who leads an adventurer party made up of his talented childhood friends. But, due to misunderstandings and dumb luck, everyone keeps assuming that MC is strong and a mastermind. This trope is seen in many series like tearmoon empire (wisdom of the empire), one punch man (King engine), one piece (god usopp or buggy) etc.. Review Positives: 1. plenty of fan-service and diverse waifus like tomboy, yandere, step-sister(?) etc.. in the harem 2. funny [and careless] MC - especially his misunderstandings with the rest of the cast 3. morally gray-ish characters - They have no qualms with stealing stuff or working with shady organizationsor massacring criminals or manipulating others etc... Negatives: 1. awkward pacing - There's nothing happening sometimes and it can be pretty boring. 2. Generic Isekai - At its core, the setting/world-building/characters are all unoriginal. Do not expect anything creative or complex. Overall If you keep your expectations low and don't take the plot seriously, this is a pretty decent Isekai. It is also simple, and you either like it or you don't. You can judge its vibe from just the first episode. Personally, I love the light-hearted vibe of the MC (kinda like Cid) who just lives in his own world of delusions.
