Review: Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time I just finished watching all 12 episodes of Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time in one sitting, and I have to say—it was a fantastic experience! What really stood out to me was how refreshing this anime felt, despite being labeled as a harem. Unlike most harem anime, the main character wasn’t a pervert, and there was no forced romance or awkward ecchi moments. Instead, the story focused on genuine bonds between the characters, which made it feel much more meaningful. The dynamic between the characters was truly the heart of the show. It felt less like aharem and more like a found family—a group of misfits who helped each other break free from their past struggles. The relationships weren’t about attraction or shallow infatuation, but rather about trust, support, and personal growth. Each character had their own burdens, and together, they gave each other the strength to move forward. The storytelling was also really well done. It wasn’t just about action or adventure; it had emotional depth that kept me invested from start to finish. Even though it’s a fantasy anime with alchemy and magic, the way the characters connected felt incredibly real. Overall, Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time was a genuinely good anime. It defied expectations, delivering something heartfelt rather than just another generic harem story. If you’re looking for an anime with strong character bonds and a wholesome atmosphere, I’d highly recommend giving this one a watch!
This is good trash isekai, and I say that from a place of love for trash isekai. This has all the ingredients that make a solid trash isekai in place and a unique-enough story. It's a lighthearted and enjoyable watch if you're looking to throw something on with all the tropes you would expect. But at the same time there's nothing particularly special about it either. There's the standard OP main character that gets tossed into another world, gets stronger every episode, has a handful of challenges that are easily resolved, and minor struggles throughout. There's a fair amount of world building and some predictable character building. Ifyou like trash isekei, you'll probably enjoy this. If you're looking for something deeper or highly engaging, you'll probably want to give this a miss.
No - even for a trash isekai fan this is not a good isekai. Takumi gets alchemy and literally every other skill and starts making everything from toilets, to inter-dimensional wagons, to pocket storage. There isn't anything he cannot do, but the magic system is all over the place making it annoying to grasp. You never get a very satisfying OP protagonist moment. The saving grace is that the plot is fast. It felt like every two episodes might be covering a new story arc, sometimes a single episode felt like it covered what a normal LN would take a entire volume to cover. Theevents themselves might have been acceptable if the animation wasn't abysmal. Every action scene is a shot of a single still frame with movement lines drawn on them. As a viewer there is no excitement brought by watching this show, and with a lackluster story everything else falls apart. Yes, there is a lot of slavery in this as well - and girls who protest being released from their slave contracts. The other summoned Japanese people are constantly shown and are mostly irrelevant, but they spend 2-3 minutes each episodes showing them being generically evil. Takumi doesn't develop at all as a character; maybe towards how he views his slaves, but nothing that distinguishes him over any other protagonist. It feels like he just reacts as a nice guy would to everything going on around him. Overall, i would suggest watching any other isekai that has somewhat half decent animation over this show.
If you like Isekai, or rather if you like trash Isekai (which lets face it is most isekai these days) then you will most likely like this. If you don't like Isekai, or you want something with a great plot, great characters, a serious drama driven anime, then this is not for you, because this is trash isekai through and through. This series knows what it is, it doesn't take itself seriously, it just wants to have fun This series doesn't seek to do anything new, but that doesn't mean it's an Isekai paint-by-numbers, what it does it does well, it uses standard tropes, but its not copyingother works wholesale, it does its own thing without seeking to reinvent the wheel The pacing of the series is quite quick but it still works and flows well, the plot is there in the background to a degree that it doesn't get in the way of the series just having fun, instead it quietly ticks along to give you a little something extra and give you the sense that events are moving towards some inevitable end point. MC is accidentally summoned to the world, he's made OP by the goddess to 'make up for it' but also because she has her own hidden reasons, MC rejects the idea of a combat job but intends to pursue crafting and alchemy so he can have a peaceful slow life... and now the stage is set for general isekai trash fun. MC finds himself in a wood near a village (yes that trope) and saves a villager from harm (yes that trope) he's quickly welcomed into the village and soon learns all he needs, if you think his interactions here are strange, it does get answered later. We also have our first companion join, Maple. Once we move to the city and are out of the starter area which is the midpoint of episode 2, we start to expand the cast of characters and our companion roster as the MC hires slaves, the system of which seems based on that of Ancient Greece, where they are more like servants than the modern view of slaves. We also get the usual isekai hijinks you would expect from a series of this type, making items from his old world to improve his daily life (I wish there was more of this but it is what it is) going on quests and adventures, and causing a certain level of chaos with what he does. I'll get into the weeds on some points as there are some things that some people seem to have missed. The series shows you at the start how skills are learned and progressed, which is a very simple system any gamer would be used to, you level up the skill by using it. It focuses on the MC learning the basics of the world, how to craft and produce materials, and he spends time levelling up, after that it is hardly touched on again mostly because showing you him constantly progressing his skills would be repetitive and boring and take you away from the heart of things, but there are enough scattered breadcrumbs to show he's still learning. As for the toilets... Yes there is a big focus on toilets, Japan does have a toilet obsession after all, but if you were isekaied into another world and you had some of these abilities, you would quickly make yourself a proper toilet rather than what is essentially a cut-out hole in a plank over a hole in an outhouse leading to your cesspit... The most realistic isekai's out there are those where the MC seeks to improve their living conditions by recreating 'home comforts' as well as recreating their home cooking and yearning for certain foodstuffs, getting homesick is one of the most grounded things that you can include in an isekai. Is this the best series out there? No, it's not even trying to be the best. Nor is this the worst series out there. This is just good trash fun, something you can unwind to and not think too deeply about. it's entertaining, and that's all its trying to be.
Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time - Yet another "Am I Actually the Strongest" derivative of Isekai reincarnation stories, that knows what it does (and does good to a degree)...with the caveat of it being just unwoteworthy at all. "From a common-sense standpoint, you're probably on the right road. The problem is, you're opening a can of worms you might not be able to shut. That might cause more problems than it solves." This quote, derived from the University of Houston's head basketball coach Kelvin Sampson of the Houston Cougars, pretty much sums up the oversaturated Isekai landscape of the 2020s. Because when one particular subgenregoes live and makes a hit splash (as is with reincarnation), it truly opens the can of worms to that subgenre to see both the good and the bad of authors trying to make it big with their showing, which slowly is being seen as more of a detriment to be given the majority of bad and forgettable ones, plus the occasional eke of decent and good shows to a degree. And this questioning of "Am I really the strongest?" becomes its own "popular" mainstay, as such, with the experiment being the showing of novelist Sai Sumimori's Jitsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita? a.k.a Am I Actually the Strongest? in Summer 2023 (which was a show that I really enjoyed). And this breaks the bank for others to follow, like this Winter season's Izure Saikyou no Renkinjutsushi? a.k.a Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time, from novelist Kogitsunemaru, which actually preceded the former being released the year prior in February 2018. Out of the real world and in with the fantasy life, but with a twist. The ordinary salaryman Takumi Iruma, getting suddenly summoned to the fantasy world of Mildgard by its goddess Nolyn, causing his entire body to break down, gets mended by her as an apology for the accidental summon. At first, this seems normal as Takumi is repaid with the body of a teenager and powers of his choosing to acclimate to his new world, which he soon picks up on being an alchemist and begins to fulfill the quests that regard him as part of his citizenship at the city he resides in to lead a quiet and slow life. But soon thereafter, more than the people that he picked up to help run his rather uncouth "business" of utilizing Nolyn's god-given powers by manufacturing modern-day items and marketing to the medieval old-timers, a rude awakening arrives that the goddess's aforementioned accidental summon...might not be one after all. First off, within the rather weak Winter season, we've seen Isekai MCs who are indistinguishable from one another, and Takumi is no different from the others at all. Sure, what bolsters the series to begin with is the newfound teenager's happy-go-lucky, carefree attitude that allows him to do what he wants, even if that puts a price on his head for being the most innovative guy in all of the land, or one that's a legitimate threat by going after him for the exploits of evil (since after all, summoned heroes soon become part of the story). Sure, Takumi is kind and sensitive to the people around him, even forming his "harem" of a monster and demi-human slaves to help progress his alchemy as a way to repay his kindness for saving them out of their circumstances. That's just about as decent as the show comes to being memorable for the small but significant things, after all. With the ladies ranging from Killer Spider Maple to the slaves of best friends elf Sofia Sylphid and human Maria, alongside fox girl Revya, this is the one suit where the show trumps over the bad ones (I'm looking at you Botsuraku Yotei and Kinomi Master) and makes character development front and center of its premise. I appreciate a small but well-thought-out cast of characters who are intelligent enough to know what they're doing and that it doesn't suffer from plot devices and the like, and Izure Saikyou gets that formula right indefinitely. By having a caveat of characters who are at least able-bodied to serve Takumi to their bidding, they all benefit each other in servitude and progression to not just be strong but also in spirit and in truth, since saving slaves out of their own lobotomy requires one's worth of care and respect not to be given the same exact treatment of blissful ignorance. Takumi's family of slaves-turned-helpers is a family that I can get behind real nice, though Maria always thinking that she's always lower than a toilet bowl, the gag somehow just never gets old lols. Don't go to production for the saving grace of the anime, because while Studio Comet's values are as decent and typical as they come, alongside in-house director Naoyuki Kuzuya and his staff team's effort in trying to stay consistent, this is as much serviceable and alright for the anime standards of today...if you're not trying to break the bank between mediocrity and amazing wowsers. Even with Dialogue+'s OP and harmoe's ED range being the same, it's just there, just that you either don't notice much or skip it outright. Though Izure Saikyou no Renkinjutsushi? a.k.a Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time, may be one of those shows in the seasonal count that proves to be a fad more than virality, I did feel like some of the time here is wasted for better shows, but more or less so, just seeking the slow life that the show also brings to brighten up the day. A bargain bin that's labelled "extra time", because while there's nothing noteworthy, it's actually not bad and better than you imagine, but just don't expect too much from it and you'll be fine.
Another day another MID-sekai Looks like we got an MC whose trade revolves around Alchemy and creative skills with fair touches of combat. This is a 7/10 Anime and it is quite accurate to the manga despite the faster pacing. The MC himself sticks to good values and ensures to help anyone and everyone over him. Even though he was kicked from the original reincarnated Hero party for not having a "combat" role, he makes up for it in untility. This bro single handed solved the problems with sewage, sanitation, and magical living utility in mere episodes. There's nothing OP here, the guy is just using his knowledge tocombine with the magic world ideals. Story wise, it's pretty straight forward like any Isekai series. It's a relief to see none of the other characters are bland or generic repeats. Everyone has their own unique personality which adds a decent taste to the series.
I have seen a lot of reviews crapping on this show because he is "another OP MC" when in reality the MC of this anime is far from it. From start to finish he is ALWAYS constantly grinding on his craft to up his levels. There is no OP MC in this anime. His knowledge of another world and being an alchemist might give him an advantage monetarily but the ENTIRE series the MC puts in the work to be strong. The only thing that you could say was given to him was the blessing of the goddess and that just made things a littleeasier. Overall this series was a fun take on the alchemist job where the MC just really wants to live a quiet life. It is VERY SIMILAR to Knights and Magic so if you liked that you will like this! In conclusion give the anime a try and make your own opinion on whether its a 'trash Isekai" or a fun watch. Up to YOU!!! Rating 7/10
although a standard isekai with an overpower main character the series is great. Takumi your average MC that just what the easy laid back life but like a lot of these MC his cheat skill are just too powerful and his lack the understanding of what is common so he draws the attention of merchants, nobles and others it also a harem anime series with the haremettes start off as slave to the MC although he very uncomfortable with slavery and in the kingdom the goddess dropped him in it more like indentured servitude the art style if good and animation alittle subpar and the voice acting (english dub) us ok if you like death march to the parallel world rhapsody, by the grace of the gods or The Great Cleric this series maybe worth a watch
This anime was alright, the best part about it would probably be seeing what the main character would come up with and the creative ways he helped the world with his alchemy, but the cliches that were sprinkled in the anime had me bored a lot of time. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind cliches, but when they are so heavily focused on it it gets pretty old after a while and could definitely turn you away from this anime if you don't like that. The characters that accompany the main character were all female and it turned into a harem-esk dynamic between allof them which is way overdone. They became relentlessly positive towards the main character and were very one dimensional because of it. Characters aside, the world building in this anime is probably it's best quality, it's fun seeing how he helps the world and his dynamic between the goddess and the way it affects the world. Would give 6.5 if I could. I might not watch a second season if it gets one but maybe if it's seems like the anime leans into the world building in the right ways and has an interesting story line. Let me know if anyone reading this has read the manga or light novel, I'm interesting to know your take on it!
Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time Rating: 5/10 Well, to be honest, *Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time* is just... okay. It’s one of those shows that's neither great nor terrible—it just exists. It falls right into that big pile of typical isekai fantasy where the overpowered MC does out-of-this-world stuff, builds a harem without really trying, and everyone praises him for every little thing he invents. If you’ve seen even a handful of isekai anime, you already know the entire playbook here. The story had promise at the start. The idea of using alchemy to build a new life and create things that didn’t existin that world could’ve been really interesting. But sadly, the show never really delivers on that potential. It ends up being super repetitive: the MC finds something, makes some "modern-world" invention, impresses the locals, gets requested to make *even more*, and then occasionally meets a girl who is either a client or a future love interest. That’s basically the entire formula, rinse and repeat. Story & Characters There’s barely any meaningful plot development. It’s more like a collection of loosely connected “MC does cool thing” episodes rather than a coherent story. The MC is likeable enough but has zero real struggles, and the side characters are mostly just there to admire him or flirt a little. There’s no real character growth, no meaningful relationships, and no serious threats to make things exciting. If you’re expecting an engaging narrative with tension or deep emotional beats, yeah, you’re not gonna find that here. Animation & Visuals Animation-wise, it’s just okay. Nothing impressive, but nothing offensively bad either. Some scenes look decent, some look cheap, but it never reaches that "wow" moment you’d hope for in fantasy shows. It gets the job done but that’s about it. Same with the art style—serviceable, but completely forgettable. My Watching Experience Honestly, this show is perfect if you have absolutely nothing better to watch and just want something to pass the time. It's easy to digest, requires zero brain power, and gives you a few mildly cute moments here and there. But if you’re looking for something significant, meaningful, or genuinely *good*, please don’t waste your time here. It’s really not worth it if you expect anything more than low-effort comfort watching. It’s just your standard isekai fare: - OP MC? ✅ - Girls throwing themselves at him? ✅ - Out-of-this-world inventions? ✅ - Almost zero meaningful conflict? ✅ Seen it all before—and probably done better elsewhere. Why I Gave It a 5/10 - +1 for having a somewhat cozy atmosphere - +1 for the alchemy premise (even if it’s underused) - +1 for being easy, casual watch - -1 for repetitive storytelling - -1 for average-to-weak animation - -1 for lack of character depth and development Final Thoughts If you’re in the mood for *absolutely no-pressure background anime* while you're eating or cleaning, it’ll do the job fine. But if you’re hoping for something memorable, clever, or exciting—you’re better off looking elsewhere. A solid 5/10, simply because it’s "just there." Nothing terrible, nothing great.
I'm not rating this negatively because it's a "generic Isekai." Those are fine, and honestly, most are actually enjoyable. I'm rating this anime negatively because the main plot of the series starts around 9 episodes in. I would have thought that maybe this anime only covered the first Light Novel volume or two, and I won't fault stories that try and adapt as much as they can in a novel. This anime actually covers over seven Light Novel volumes. Now, from looking over the synopsis alone, I can tell they likely skipped some content, but in a story where you want to see the main premise of time travelwork, the most interesting parts ends before it really starts. What makes this Isekai unique is that the hero was summoned by a Goddess years before a kingdom summoned its heroes. This is because that Kingdom has less than great intentions. This leaves the anime to dedicate most of its episodes to world-building and saving heroines. The heroines are more fleshed-out than some other Isekai anime, as they have attempts at more complex backstories, but their personalities drop down when they join Takumi. Takumi is probably the main reason you would watch this anime, that and if you really like the concept of alchemy magic, it's fun to watch him create modern inventions in this world, but they just don't do that much with the cool concepts they DO have. If I can compliment some parts, I would say the character design of the characters are nice, they're just "good" to look at, Takumi's design is pretty refreshing actually. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched, but it's hard to suggest something that starts the main story at the end of the series, while the previous world-building could have honestly been done in like 6 episodes. They keep teasing the hero summoning throughout the anime also, so when you're left with no conclusion, there isn't really any point watching this compared to reading it. I imagine for Light Novel readers, this was a lot more enjoyable, and I'm sure the Light Novel is fine, but I would suggest just reading this series if it interests you.
Will I Possibly Be The Greatest Alchemist of All Time is the question asked in this cute anime series. The answer is, if your competition is Kinomi Master, then you surely will. I finished both series days apart, both had similar storylines (main character gains powers, uses the said powers for the good of humanity, acquires loyal female friends or slaves, and fights against the forces of evil. Yes, one is isekai and the other is just fantasy, I know that.). The execution of the story, attention to detail and to character development, and how the secondary characters are developed and kept in the loopset these two animes apart and boy, how good is the execution in Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time as opposed to how bad it was on Kinomi Master speaks volumes. Iruma Takumi is a likeable hero. A 40 years old salaryman in Japan, he is transferred from our world to another world by mistake with three other heroes and cannot return to his time and land, so, the goddess Nolyn gives him special powers, makes him 17 years old (and easy on the eyes, too), and sends him to one year before the other three heroes are to appear with special alchemist’s powers and things develop from there. The story is straightforward. There is no novelty concerning guilds, adventuring, use of magic in daily life, slavery, non-human races’ existence, and pseudo-harem use compared to similar stories. However, at least some of the females in here can be seen as Bond girls, helping the main character while looking pleasing. What makes Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time is the way the main character develops, interacts, has self-doubt, and that he pursues what will be to the society’s benefit even though he is afraid at times. I believe the voice actor for Takumi did a great job as he is always doubtful, unsure, uncertain and it is wonderfully reflected in the great voice-work which sometimes even compensates for the poor quality animation. When you have a good, well-balanced, sympathetic main character and good secondary characters surrounding him, when you place every character carefully to their supposed place in the storyline, then you cannot fail. That’s why this is one great anime. It is good for entertainment, for feeling good, for fun, and for good ideas on friendship and loyalty. That’s why, though it ends on some sort of a cliffhanger, even if isn’t to have a second season, anyone watching it may have fun. I’d recommend Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time easily. Go watch it and have fun.
Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time is a somewhat enjoyable anime, but it has its detractors and I can somewhat agree. It's a typical isekai where a certain bloke is summoned to another world, who becomes overpowered and gets the admiration of lots of females. Iruma Takumi gets accidentally summoned to another world, but he isn't supposed to be summoned. The goddess Nolyn lets him choose any skill, and Takumi unknown to him has chosen an overpowered skill, that of alchemy. She then sends him one year before the Empire of Sidonia summons the heroes from Japan. This she did so Takumi could prepare forand stop the heroes of the Empire of Sidonia. There's nothing too bad about it, but there's nothing too great either. Its only differentiating factor is Takumi's dislike for slave contracts. He treats his familiars as friends and comrades. This is interesting, but you know there's a lid on how much this concept can wow you. The lore of the isekai is mildly interesting. Nolyn has adherents called the Church of Creation. Her enemy is Anat, who was not shown and has adherents called the Church of Divine Light. The problem is that this lore is not explored so far in depth. Perhaps more information will become known down the road. The animation is pretty much average. The character designs are so-so. The final battle is alright. It challenges Takumi and his comrades a bit.
