From nowhere, middle-aged illustrator Kenichi Hamada finds himself summoned to another world. Despite arriving in an unfamiliar land, he realizes he can still connect to an online shop named Shangri-La, which he frequented back in Japan, to order almost anything. Not long after, Kenichi comes across a town and, using Shangri-La, decides to become a merchant in the settlement. By selling products from Earth, he is quickly able to make a living for himself while gaining acquaintances and the attention of local companies. However, the man just wants to live a quiet life without nuisances and leaves the town to build a cabin in a nearby forest. Though interrupted from time to time, there is nothing that can stop Kenichi from having his peaceful days. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

i actually thought the anime started out okay, feels pretty interesting though it kind of reminds me of "tondemo sukiru de isekai hōrō meshi". like the concept is pretty similar where both mc got transferred to another world and able to bought things online from their world. however halfway through the anime, it just kind of get really sleazy or something. like every woman just started throwing themselves at the mc and the mc seems okay with it, to the point of bathing or sleeping with them. i honestly thought it weird out the anime and makes the plot very confusing.
Overall I like this series, but its not for everyone Take the gimmick of Campfire Cooking's 'online shopper' combine it with Saving 80,000 Gold's premise of selling those goods in an isekai world, and combine it with the slow life elements of Farming Life, and this is what you get - kind of. Personally I prefer this to Campfire Cooking, for one thing it's a slightly more believable approach, which is something Saving 80,000 gold got right, if you have access to such products you sell them for a considerable profit to fund the goal of a slow life. That is the premise of this series and whereit is at is strongest Our MC dies of overwork, is isekaied, finds he has the online shopper skill and item box, and decides to use both to fund his slow life. So lets get into the issues The 'rules' to the various mechanics seem to be made up as the writer goes along, there is a 'size limit' on the item box, and he said it was only small in what it could contain... yet it's later said to be large, as he seems to store absolutely everything in there and there is a vast amount of items in it, and I'm sure he's gone past the 'size limit' for individual items. Then there are the restrictions on what he can and can't buy using his online shopper, this is just beyond incredulity, this is just bad writing, he can buy certain items which you certainly wouldn't expect to buy from such an online shopping place, because the story demands it, yet he can't buy other things because the story demands it and it would just make things too easy, but lets allow him to buy all that other stuff because that doesn't make his life too easy? It's nonsensical Slow Life - If you are going to do a 'Slow Life' then commit to it, too many series fail on this point, it doesn't have to be 100% slow life, but if you are going to add other elements you have to get the balance right otherwise it is no longer a 'slow life' as someone who loves the 'Slow Life' concept this alone has caused me to drop my score down further from what it was Talking of committing to a concept, if the MC is going to jump in everyones bed, at least be consistent with it, we have person A and person B, both are his type, yet he'll constantly resist the advances of person A and instantly jump in bed with person B, why? Because... I don't mind harems, I don't mind that all these women are throwing themselves at him, we're told the reason fairly early on, he is amassing wealth, he has access to luxury items that they can only dream of, he has power, and it will only be a matter of time before he obtains status, but harems are consistent, this isn't. Also I wish we didn't have an Usagi-Drop situation I should also note that the OP should be sued for false advertising, most of what is shown in the OP doesn't resemble the series and doesn't happen, I never once saw an excavator turn into a mecha These are my complaints, I really enjoyed the first 3/4's of the series if it had been just the first 10 episodes I would have given it an extra point and maybe even a recommend, but there is a scene where they all climb a cliff and at that point the anime fell off one. It frustrates me as it had been good, it had been enjoyable, but with episode 11 onwards my enjoyment dropped.
I thought for a moment about making a proper analysis and a serious review, since it's not a preliminary review anymore, but I mean, come on. The show doesn't treat itself seriously, so why should I? Also, it's not like it's unenjoyable despite being bad, so eh. I'll leave most of it as is. Dear reader. I don't care how high or low do you think the level of my intelligence is. I think that this show did not respect it, no matter its quantity. If you've ever seen another trashy isekai, especially one that has some sort of trans-dimensional trading system in it, then you'veseen all the gimmicks that this anime will have going for it. The plot of "Arafo Otoko" is as one-dimensional of a Campfire Cooking knock-off, as one can make. And generally it's a happy mishmash of isekai slop tropes in random order. Which to be fair, I'm used to at this point; This is neither the first dumb power fantasy trash I watched, nor will it be the last. But I must stress, that this workaround around the general issue of dumb shows came from me, not from the show. They are still on the hook for being moronic, appealing to the base emotions and relying on the stupidest tropes one can think of. Me being "fine with that" is not a merit of these shows, but a dull reality I've grown to accept. The idea in the first place was always, is that if you're gonna be swimming through the trash anyway, at least choose a decent kind. Sometimes it's the barely trashy Eminence in Shadows. And sometimes, it's a stinker like Arafo Otoko no Isekai Tsuuhan. And I'll probably gobble it up, anyway. Self-respect is through the roof here, bois. HOWEVER! While there are many, many faults I can see in it, like some sound glitches, many reused frames, bad CGI, music that becomes mismatched to the general scene's vibe, because they let it play for a bit too long, stiff and cheap animation and lazy editing included, there is one part that I absolutely love. While this title doesn't respect any intelligence, it does respect the heck out of my time. Like, despite this clearly being a dogwater of an isekai show, this I feel like it's trying to speedrun the story. It's relying on the preconceived notion, that since you LITERALLY CAN NOT GET LOST in a brain-dead stupid plot like this, you therefore can go at a breakneck pace and tick off the classic isekai tropes one by one and get home for dinner with no overtime. It makes the show so much better for it. At least compared to other slow life-adjacent fantasy shows, which often take FOREVER to get to the point, even in the case of a much better Campfire Cooking which this show borrows A LOT. Yet, this dumpster fire of a show, flexes on many competitors in the trash genre, simply by saying that: "When creating a story, its STRUCTURE matters almost as much as the plot itself." And in this story's case, structure is king. (Even though the plot and the characters are still sh**) While all the alleged plot takes place, I feel the author was forced by an editor to add romantic subplots and sexual innuendos, but wasn't really comfortable with them, so they are an afterthought. He probably didn't want to waste any more time on romance than necessary. It's so bad, that it loops around to being decent again, just because it brings nothing to the story and is short, sweet and already over with, before you can remember the current female romantic interest's name. Summarizing, I like trashy isekai slop. You like trashy isekai slop. We all like slop every now and then. This one will not remain in your head for longer than an hour after the credits of the last episode roll. It's definitely one of them. It's cr*p and I recommend it regardless, because it's dumb fun you can lose yourself in, as with any slop. Have fun and probably stop reading if you are considering watching this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One thing that changed my final score from the initial 4 to the current 2, is that it dared to hint at "Usagi Dropping" the adopted daughter character, Anemone. If you know what that means, I'm sorry. If you don't, I'm also sorry. It doesn't go further than implying it might just happen one day, but it's disgusting enough that I felt it should be shamed for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The super cool excavator mech that appears in the opening DOES NOT APPEAR in the show. Nor do most of the stuff from the opening. There will indeed be some heavy machinery, but not the big robot, that I was waiting for. The opening is like a banner with pictures of food at a fast food joint. Next to none of it will be there.
Insane premise, insane writer, insanely low budget, TOP SHELF KINO In Arafo Otoko, Kenichi Hamada fulfills the dream shared by all Japanese middle school boys and black-company corporate wage slaves alike; which is of course to get isekai'd into a classic medieval fantasy world, but you still get to keep your access to Amazon so you don't really have to work that hard or give up any of your video games and stuff. Following in the footsteps of Charles Manson, Kenichi masterfully woos multiple unsuspecting medieval females between the ages of 13 and 20 by posing as a merchant from a far off land and impressing themwith his many Temu items from the future. This convinces them that, despite being a 40 year old loser, he is a superior male worth mating with because he has dollar-store plastic jewelry and microwave TV dinners full of the high-calorie saturated fats and processed sugars they've never known in their world. These recently prepubescent girls throw themselves at Kenichi's feet at the mere sight of him wielding the miraculous, godlike power of the post-industrial Chinese drop-ship economy. With his ever-growing entourage of young women one third or less his age, Kenichi rampages across the land destabilizing national economies, murdering innocent landowners and local fauna, participating in race wars, naming clueless people funny stuff like "Bicycle", fighting dragons with construction machinery, showing off, and otherwise tainting the purity of both mother nature and her human daughters using his diesel-fueled SUV's and bulldozers which he bought off of Temu in another world. All of this amazing action is presented in possibly the worst animation ever created, which along with the script was probably done by artificial intelligence. Mind boggling decisions abound. So many extreme long shots are used that the characters often just look like ants on the screen. Sometimes the shot is so extremely far away, a scene will start by literally zooming in from space. This all results in many funny moments for the sharp-eyed viewer who notices that kind of thing. If you are a triple digit IQ cinema enjoyer, this is the best thing since The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Don't pass this one up at your weekly anime night with your friends. Put on an episode after watching a few of your favorite shows, and you just won't believe your eyes.
I saw some of negative reviews regarding this isekai with a sol element , looks like kids didn't like fan service which more like a mature romance b/w mc and characters . Actually it's a common trend people hate whatever studio or author do to gain some attention .....if there is progress in romance then people have problem if there isn't any progress e.g rent a gf then people have problem . So, i advice if you looking for a peaceful iseaki with some decent fan service then , it's for you . Warning , this show can trigger hunger so , make sure you have snacksto eat otherwise you will end up in suffering .
I don’t usually write reviews anymore, but I think people need to keep an open mind about this anime. This adaptation leans more toward a chill setting—a slow life in another world. Right from the start, the MC’s goal is simple: just to live peacefully. But to keep things interesting, the story cleverly adds some tension and interactions that disrupt that peaceful goal. It creates a nice balance: it’s not too boring like some slow-life anime can be, but it also doesn’t go full action-packed chaos. There’s also a harem element, but it’s done in a good way, not overly forced or distracting. Yes, the pacing feelsrushed (as with many promotional anime), but somehow the character introductions feel natural and flow well with the progression of the story. Who would I recommend this anime to? Anyone who’s feeling burned out from nonstop action anime and just wants something refreshing, something easy to watch and relax to.
** spoiler free, bief summary ** Surprisingly, the story is quite entertaining — mostly because it has a clear sense of progress. The main character actually learns new things, makes useful connections, and steadily builds his life in the new world. It’s not directionless, which makes it feel more engaging than a lot of similar “laid-back” isekai series. The characters, however, are pretty simple and not very deep. What’s a bit hard to swallow is how quickly and senselessly they start liking the main character — often without much justification. It feels a little forced and makes their relationships less meaningful than they could’ve been. Still, if you’relooking for an easygoing fantasy series with light humor, food scenes, and a chill vibe — this one does the job well. Just don’t expect any major emotional investment, so Im giving it a score for what it is.
i am bing watching this anime and watching this for first time also, so in conclusion i feel so annoyed that they made gourment main focus despite it not being mentioned in summary or genre. it should be more about him getting into spotlight as he struggle to live a normie life away from everyone's eyes. but no, the raid on bandits for rescue of primula is short with no harm received to his own party, he defeated a 2 story tall spider like nothing, and found rare gems casually buried in mountains, like i get it that old time didn't have technology but factthat he found all these resource close to cities so it's so senseless that these gems weren't already discovered. like even normal sense is thrown into trash and made soul focus on gourmet, like dude what the heck? i rather watch food wars for 9th time if i want to enjoy gourmet. let's be real, before raid they highlighted gourmet too much when they camp near river. like in conclusion i hate this that they making gourmet main genre and leading others to this anime with fake promise of, ecchi, isekai, like shounen and isekai together? it doesn't matter if manga had ecchi scene and giving it ecchi tag when they didnt adapted any ecchi scene from manga.
Ok then, let’s talk about this anime honestly. For me, it’s just another generic isekai. The animator even made a short recap at the beginning of the first episode about the typical "recipe" of a peaceful isekai — so they kinda knew what they were doing. What I like about this anime? Hmm… it’s simple and easy to watch, that’s why I still follow it. Something I don’t like? The MC’s personality. That “Sorry, I already have a wife… but if you insist” type of attitude — bruh, seriously? but its a bit funny sometime HAHAHA. As for the animation, it’s alright. Not amazing, but not bad either— just nice for a generic isekai. Storytelling? Meh, I don’t really mind it. I’m not watching this for the plot anyway haha.
Dear gods of Hentai, Ecchi, Isekai - You were treacherously devoted and defamed by "East Fish Studio". May the heavenly beam will come, and the anime title will be cursed, which cannot be pronounced aloud. The only option to enjoy this "creation" to perceive absolutely everything as a parody. If you turn on the brain for at least one second, ask one logical question - fail, you can finish viewing. Dude, calling for an excavator. Driving on a bike, an SUV full of women. He constantly speaks about a quiet life and his high moral values. Fucks almost all female characters, buteverything is cut out by censorship. A sort of hentai without hentai. Even ecchi genre was removed from MAL due to minimal content, everything remains in words. The merchant, a magician, a driver of an excavator, a lover of pussy and pussies. As described from it, it is recommended for viewing only because of parody moments. If you want to see the battle of the excavator VS dragon.
Started off entertaining enough, a lot of plot points were rushed to fit into 12 eps and just like in the manga the ending was atrocious. The nobles and the royal family are absolute c*nts to drag Keinchi and his entire family of women and a child into a battle that could have lead to death. All for the sake of entertainment. If that is not bad enough, the fact that that bratty princess' idea of solving this is to then make him give her a priceless gift in exchange for a pardon for crimes THEY committed to HIM is utter bullshit. What's infuriating isthat he ACCEPTS the deal with no resistance. And they are all smiles again. What an absolute joke from the author. Pure filth.
It honestly would have been so much better if they didn't have the gag of the MC sleeping with everyone. It would have been more fun if it was just all the girls being thirsty for him and he has to find ways to rebuff their advances. Instead we get him cheating on his wife when she's not looking. The art is fine, just your standard style, nothing special. The characters are the same, just standard, nothing special; no one really gets any development, except maybe Anemone, with most of their personality centered around them just being attracted to the MC. This anime has aninteresting premise, but the poor execution puts it on the mid tier, so while I didn't have to slog through it, it didn't impress me enough to recommend it to anyone.
Surprisingly really good. It could do better, but it's just rare to see some good story development and world building with all the anime that's been coming out. This is a gem in a rough. With all that being said, a solid score of 9 may be given by me considering its potential into being something even more if another season is introduced The set up of the story may give people mixed feelings, but for people who sees things from multiple perspectives and can separate objective from the fine line in the norms of society- this is something you might want to try outfor your self. It's an anime that isn't focused on simply the harem and fan service and really is giving you a reason to keep on watching waiting on what could the next thing be on the list for the story to go to. Although, this might be more of a show that men might prefer than ladies or young girls out there, since it's a harem after all. And as it's a harem, it appeals more to the community of men than with ladies with how harems are usually set up, unless, you're not part of said group- which isn't in any way bad. The characters aren't also so bland that you'd just focus on one or two within the series, which is quite surprising as it's been observable in recent anime works that only the leads or some characters within the anime catch your interest and lead you to finish the series, but in this anime, surprisingly more times than not, are characters or people you'd remember. And for good reasons too. This is a gem in the rough, but if what's been mentioned ever does click to you, again, try it out for your self. There's no such thing as a perfect anime, even with masterpieces, you'd probably find a thing or two to say if you really tried to find any thing- but what can be taken away with this is that, it seems this anime was made with proper care and thought, and of course, things that may be improved on as is with many other titles out there.
'The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World' is one fine anime. I like its premise, but it has some stuff that gives it a lower score than I would have liked. It's about the story of a middle-aged man, Hamada Ken-ichi. He is isekai'd and granted the ability to buy stuff from the equivalent of Amazon, which he uses to trade for even more money. As the story goes, he meets people who are essentially his 'harem.' His goal is to live 'the slow life.' As such, it has or should have a slice-of-life vibe. Ken-ichi's temperament is fit for it andthe background musick. Unfortunately, he has to deal with some nasty people and one of the things he buys is a fuckin excavator! It makes you laugh but, if you like this anime, you would want to cheer for it despite the absurdity. Unfortunately too is the fact that the art direction leaves much to be desired. Some scenes are violent and actually require grittier drawings that one usually associates with seinen. It's a limitation of this anime that gore is not drawn correctly and lacks realism. On the plus side, this anime is not afraid of showing the dude getting laid or being in situations where he could have gotten laid had he chosen to. In short, this anime is so horny that I love it. ************************************************ Let me digress to address the self-insert criticism, which to me is borne out of lazy thinking. So many people bemoan that Ken-ichi is an ordinary bloke who can get laid and accuses the author of self-insert, and therefore, this anime is rubbish. First of all, there's nothing wrong if an author writes his protagonists with positive qualities that readers or watchers would desire to have and emulate, even if the author himself does not possess those qualities. One of the oldest stories is Homer's epicks — The Iliad and The Odyssey. The point of reading these epicks — and for some ancient Greeks, attempt to memorise every line of these epicks — is to impress the heroic virtues on the reader and thereby attempt to emulate these virtues in his life. This point takes care of why self-insert or potentially self-insert stories can be helpful. It allows us to live vicariously through the protagonist. The real criticism that one should take is not whether a story is self-insert or not. It's whether the protagonist's virtues have a logical explanation or whether he deserves his harem. In Ken-ichi's case, he acts so normal unlike so many anime protagonists who are chodes, weak, wuss, beta males, or AFCs. And since he is older, it's reasonable to expect that he has experience dealing with the ladies. ************************************************ Usually overlooked or at least underemphasized is this show's promotion of trading and entrepreneurship. It has a similar concept to 'Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement' though the writing is weaker. It compensates for that by having a relatively normal bloke who gets laid. Even more interesting than Ken-ichi are his 'wife' and 'daughter' (who might eventually become his wife), Primula and Anemone. Primula always sees opportunities for moneymaking whenever she encounters an item bought by Ken-ichi, and this is one view of entrepreneurship (Kirzner and Hayek): that of a process of discovery. Anemone who at first seemed helpless eventually becomes a useful character thanks to her knack for mastering spells from grimoires. Even if Ken-ichi himself doesn't want to become ultra rich, this idea of trading for goods is one aspect that I reckon is worth watching, which is why I am giving this anime a decent score. It's a guilty pleasure, but it's pleasurable nonetheless.
