In the detective business, everyone knows the name Keiichirou Nagumo. Back in high school, he was called a genius for cracking tough cases that even the police could not solve. But those days are long gone—or so the rumors say. However, one day, an unexpected visitor barges into his office: Mashiro, an energetic high school student who demands to be hired as his new assistant. Although Keiichirou tries to brush her off, Mashiro is persistent. She is determined to become a detective, and to prove her worth, she begins by teaching him about the latest technology and offers a fresh perspective on his business. Thus, Keiichirou takes Mashiro on as his assistant and embarks on a brand new chapter in his career—one where he finds himself constantly surprised by the modern generation of detectives. Detective's These Days is not exactly an innovative or interesting work. It's a referential comedy that deals in referencing detective media (and often many other things, a la Bobobo or Gintama), and that comedy is fine. It receives inconsequential little guttural laughs every episode, some episodes moreso than others, but the big issue is that this is the epitome of seasonal anime, in that I could not imagine watching this beyond a seasonal setting, nor could I imagine reading the manga for this. That's not a bad thing, it's just that now that it is over, I can't heartily recommend the work. It's fine, it's occasionallyfunny, the art is good, character are endearing, but this isn't actually Bobobo or Gintama. It's not some hilarious comedy I could sit and watch for hours, it's one I could watch for 24 minutes a week with minimal effort on my part to think about it or seek it out beyond the obligatory search on those sites. Thematic depth is not a concern of this work. Deep characters is not a concern. Mashiro starts as a loudmouth idiot and ends that way, and the same is true of every character. The opening and ending essentially tell you everything you need to know about the anime. Nagumo is shown dealing with the horrors of being incredibly old (mid-30s) in the opening song, his body is in pain, his looks are fading, he needs glasses, and the lyrics pair well with that. In the ED, Mashiro dances to a song explicitly about herself as wacky random things happen and there's glimpses of a tomorrow (the next episode preview), one that Nagumo lacks. That is Detective's These Days. That's it. That's the show. It's not deep, it's not special, it's not particularly funny, but I will look back on it fondly, and I'll listen to the OP and ED whenever I need a dose of 2020s nostalgia when I become a decrepit 35 year-old man who can't understand the kids these days.
It starts out with ecchi and by the end it's nothing but boob jokes for humor. Or the fact that a woman is actually strong, because having a strong women is humorous and gross or something, There's a good part in the middle where the humor doesn't seem to rely of throwing one of the main female characters under a bus, but at the end it's only that and wears out it's welcome. The only gags for the men are how old Negumo is (at 35/36 which is NOT that old) or how much of a misogynist Asuno is to women. (Yes constantly sexually harassing womenmakes you a misogynist.) The last episode tries to bring it around, but by that time we've had too many episodes of that same thing. Also having all the male characters look ugly didn't help the work either.
Detectives These Days Are Crazy! — Yep...crazy as they can be, no matter the profession. If I have one thing to admire about authors who can get their shit right, it's going from one genre to another that, honestly, baffles one's mind as to how he/she can do one thing well but yet also have a sense of unbridled sarcasm to create another that does the job equally as well. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you mangaka Masakuni Igarashi, the author of Spring 2018's slice-of-life rom-com series Senryuu Shoujo a.k.a Senryu Girl, following up with yet another adaptation of his comedy mystery series this Summerwith Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara a.k.a Detectives These Days Are Crazy!, as well as the much-anticipated rom-com series Mayonaka Heart Tune a.k.a Tune In to the Midnight Heart, that's set to air next year (which if you haven't got around to hearing of this manga, PLEASE read it as it's easily one of (if not) the best modern rom-coms of this era). But back to Mattaku Saikin, I've got to say that it's the equivalent of going into a carnival full of games but going specifically to the Whack-A-Mole play counter and just failing and succeeding at whacking moles at the same time. I say this because when you put a once-respected ace detective who has the spirit of Phoenix Wright of "never say never," only for age to catch up with him so much that he doesn't feel like doing the detective act anymore, he needs some colour to decorate his detective agency that's seeming to bleed out both talent and money from the beams. So, what is the saving grace of the agency? A high school girl who shows up out of nowhere, who is literally Doraemon without the charm and the suit to do extravagant things in the name of brute force, and who comes off just as unhinged as the detective himself, if not more so. The life of 35-year-old aging detective Keiichiro Nagumo, who struggles with modern technology with aching hips and back issues, will never be the same again with the arrival of bubbly Gorilla girl of Mashiro Nakanishi, who does the jobs for him so much that he reluctantly allows her to stay and become his apprentice, doing all of the oddity jobs that some are, and some are not, detective-based. For one, I did not think that Masakuni Igarashi would go one step further to present his version of the unhingedness of the show in general, not after the comparison with the rather light-heartedness of Senryuu Shoujo that just causes me to spasm out in disbelief that he could just whip up nonsensical stories, laden with cultural references left and right, and call it a day, presenting the many sides that are happening within the Nagumo Detective Office. Yes, it does take some getting used to since this manic show does not work in your usual rank-and-file storytelling of comedy-mystery series, but once you do, you're just bound to have a good time. And yes, what's a colourful series without colourful characters, without telling me that the Nagumo-Mashiro partnership is, without a doubt, one of the most deranged I've seen in quite some time? Sometimes, taking in a stray cat feels like the norm when life gets a little cold, and with permission from a client that feels like they didn't treat her request with respect to find her pet, Cerberus is born as another figure in the flailing office. Even better is gaining another member, though Taro Nezu is just your average low-level Yakuza after the agency gets a job to eliminate his group, sparing his cowardice in the process for him to join their ranks. Like all detectives, one has another to look up to, and the human comes in the form of Yuu Asunaro, who develops his own detective work after being inspired by Nagumo, and a female fanbase that just adores him like an idol, though the same could not be said for his assistant Hana "Maki-chan" Kazamaki, who shows her true chops being his true fangirl who'll go to the ends of the earth with him on his detective work...and seemingly, also crushes on him from time to time. Sure, Nagumo even has his old friend of the same age, the civil servant Soya Mimasaka, who sees and also acts like him in regard, though his daughter Fuu is just jealous of the former and is always somehow pissing Mashiro off by her looks so much that these two become nuisances to each other. Oh, wait a minute, what about the Great Big Four perverts, who are vigilantes in their own right as well? The striking men, in all of their various man bodies, from 6-packs to fatsos, are the obvious nuisance to society, but it's oddly satisfying seeing them deal justice at unexpected times, though getting caught by the police just seems like the recurring gag each and every time that never fails to get old. So, it's pretty much in-your-face comedy, and that'll decide if this show is up your alley. For a show of Liden Films's standard, this is just pretty much serviceable for the most part, in that nothing truly stands out, other than the few times to show a lot of the insane moments that the anime has to offer. Even the OST is decent but nothing noteworthy, alongside Taiiku Okazaki's OP and the VA's ED. All in all, if you just want to have a sense of what it's like to be a lunatic and maniac all at the same time, Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara a.k.a Detectives These Days Are Crazy!, will absolutely drive you crazy, and I can guarantee this to the nth degree. Better have a good time or face instant regret for what you chose to step your foot into with this show.
Are you fan of gag humor? Are you stressed? Wanna feel good with laughter? Then yes this anime is recommended. A good comedy show is rare now a days. Specially with gag humor and not making it weird. This show did it perfectly. Also Kana Hanazawa nailed her role which made this show even more funnier. Any last show that made me feel good with their comedy was Vampire dies in no time (Excluding Konosuba). I know this will not be much popular nor it'll advance but we at least got it. The story is quite simple just goes on with some detective work. Which leads us to know about peopleand their days. The cost did amazing job. The sound quality was pretty good too. Specially The ED Gori⭐Gori Feez-e-Girl was a banger. The animation was great. Which made this show much better. The pacing and consistency was good. I rate this a solid 7/10. You can watch it in one go too & won't feel bored.
When I first watched this anime in August, I was really surprised why this anime wasn't famous on SNS. If you watch a lot of anime, you will definitely know who the voice actors are behind their characters. the opening and ending songs are very unique. maybe if there is a second season, the background of mashiro-chan's character will be explained and i hope it will be explained. I'm sure you will really like this anime, because it has a very unique plot and lots of references.I highly recommend you to watch this anime if you really like the anime Grand Blue. Absolute peak anime comedy in big 2025

What does it take for an old, washed up detective and a young, spunky high school girl to have in common? Being detectives who go out to solve crimes while also causing trouble in the form of comedy. I mean, that is what the premise of the anime's story is, to be honest. To put it simply, Keiichiro Nagumo, one of the show's protagonists, runs a detective agency and was famously known during his youth. Yet he is now a washed up detective whose detective agency is failing and soon to be evicted from the building. One day, Mashiro Nakanishi, the show's second protagonist walks in the building, requesting to work under Nagumo. Nagumo refuses at first until Mashiro confesses that she looks up to him and shows a spark of determination she currently has which inspired him. Therefore, Nagumo takes Mashiro under his and they go out to solve whatever comes their way. Helping several others while causing some damage around the city along with some side-characters to provide both the drama and the comedy. Yeah, that's basically the story as far as the premise goes. For the characters besides Nagumo and Mashiro, you have a various cast of characters that range from fun and funny to underwhelming and annoying. You have Taro Nezu, who was a former Yakuza who quit his job after Mashiro torched his group office with a flamethrower. He does provide some good laughs while assisting Mashiro whatever means necessary. A pet cat named Cerberus that Mashiro had picked up. Yuu Asunaro, who also looks up to Nagumo's younger days and wants to be under his wing, even though he's already famous with both his work and with the ladies. His comedy is a hit-or-miss for me. He also has an assistant of his own named Hana Kazamaki who tolerates his actions whenever he gets into trouble and provides assistance when needed for not only Asunaro, but with Nagumo and Mashiro, too. She can be funny at times. Azuha Hoshiro, who invents several spy gadgets and custom drugs that are provided to Nagumo and Mashiro every once in a while. For a college dropout, she does some good comedy. Fuu-chan, who is the daughter of Detective Mimasaka, a detective of the police who helps Nagumo once in a while, while annoying the cast by stealing them. Not gonna lie, she does get on my nerves every once in a while. Yeah, the side-characters are as mixed as how the comedy is to me. I do give the anime credit that it does take a breather once in a while. As a matter of fact, the chemistry does work every so often like Mashiro having a girls night out with Hana and Azuha, attending parties, compete in various activities, whatever they do as long as you still have some laughs out of them. Though to be fair, the main cast themselves are what carries the show, with how Mashiro helps Nagumo out in the way of the modern world with technology while providing her with some insight. Even when half of the time, they would rub on each other the wrong way. Mind you, this is a comedy show. The comedy is just verbal, it's also done by physical means and through various styles of animation. With the animation, it is standard at times, it varies from the most bizarre way to completely cartoony that you might recognize outside of anime. I mean, there was even a style that looks like you see from SpongeBob SquarePants. I kid you not, you'd have to see it for yourself to believe what the animators have been on. I can't complain to them that they are just having fun with the visual gags as much as the voice cast has been delivering the humor. Though I have to be fair, some surprises for me can either make me laugh or make me annoyed. it just depends on your sense of humor. Yeah, this is a short review, as far as I can share. It does work well as it's satire with a couple of detectives, old and young. Funny thing, it even reminded me of The Naked Gun (2025) that I've seen in theaters twice and the still on-going Witch Watch anime that it's been a while since we had pretty good satire pieces of media. Of course, that might be me as I am in my mid-30s saying that. Again, it just depends on your sense of humor whether you wanna check it out or not. Take it for what it's worth and see what makes you laugh with this anime. For me, I'm gonna give these crazy detectives six and a half SpongeMashiro meme out of ten. 6.5/10. Oh, yeah, you can tell that this anime is gonna be used for memes constantly, when you think about it.
Are you looking for an anime with absurd humor that can keep you entertained? This is one of those shows that probably won’t be remembered in the long run, but at least it’ll give you a fun time. The main characters are quite appealing and make for some pretty good comedic duos. Secondary characters could have been developed a bit more (maybe that wasn’t the main goal, but I think it would’ve improved it). There isn’t really a linear story, so it’s not the kind of anime that makes you eager to see what happens in the next episode, but still... it’s decent.
This is one of those shows that can't really be described according to its plot, because there kind of is none. All i can say, is that i came across it by pure chance, and i'm very glad i did. To put it simply, its 'a show about detectives', kind of, instead, at the core being one of those extreme random comedies i love so much, where the goal is just to shove anything and everything that can and will make you laugh that is at least vaguely connected to the chosen theme, and one, that unlike say the overhyped deer girl anime which isjust 1 joke over and over, actually goes above and beyond to deliver the craziest random humor you can and can't imagine. If you're a fan of humor anime like asobi asobase, the daily life of highschool boys, grand blue, nichijou and the like, you'll love this.
Basically, Henry Stickmin the anime. The reference to things surrounding pop culture is fascinating and so funny. They nailed the comedy, and people who have been in the animation community, especially anime, are probably going to enjoy this more. Fantastic show. I don't really think I would enjoy this as much, but man, I actually enjoy it more than I thought. How did I find this? It's on Ani-one line-up anime for this season. I just thought, why not give it a try? Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?) I don't know. I'm actually going into this series blind. So, yeah, very surprised I actually enjoy it.Platform Anione Asia, Crunchyroll, and Bahamut (Taiwan) The review; Plot/Story I feel like there isn't a major concurrent plot to this anime. Obviously, there is the initial plot, in which Nagumo, the former expert detective, is on the verge of being out of business, and then a high school girl, Mashiro, helps him regain his former glory as a detective. The rest is just a quirky story that makes fun of the boomers and zoomers. No joke! . Also, here is the thing: the reference that they use is soooo specific, it makes only the specified fans know the reference, like the TMNT and SpongeBob references. I don't even think the Japanese know those references. So, yeah, kind of made some people probably confused. Character Great! Their deliveries on the story are just magnificent. The Detective Conan episode, the V-Tuber references, and the Ninja Warrior reference. Whenever those kinds of episodes aired, the characters were self-aware of what the h*ll they're into. I love it. Even the side characters that are only seen in a few episodes, like Fuu and Hoshino, where Fuu is trying her best to be like Kaitou Joker, or Hoshino mimics Doraemon. They are all just great. OST/SFX Opening is fire, Ending is addictive, and the OST is... fine (chef's kiss). Two thumbs up for those! Animation Now, this is where I draw the line. Lol I don't particularly like the animation style. They kept on changing the art to mimic the anime or cartoon they are referencing. Again, like I said, they reference many pop culture references, and I don't really feel it works. Again, it might be just me. Other than that nitpick, it's very good. VA Oh boy, the only one I want to praise here is Hoshino's VA. Her delivery of mimicking Doraemon really sent me! She nailed it to the core. I laughed so hard when she did that. Kudos to Fairouz Ai. Never heard of you, but I'm glad I got to know your voice acting. Very cool. Other than her, I give two thumbs up. The conclusion; The good I'm glad I checked this one out. Very good comedy show, just because of the many references that they put into this series. The bad Unfortunately, even when I recommend it, I feel like there will be many people who miss a reference or two, making their experience not to the fullest. Gratitude Thanks, once again, to Anione Asia for providing this anime free to watch on YouTube. Appreciated your hard work! Overall 7/10 Solid 7 because comedy is not really my kind of thing, but it's great to watch once in a while.
