With a smirk, Oota disregards his single-digit test scores and searches for a new source of amusement. He is soon captivated by his classmate Kashiwada, a mysterious student who consistently wears a blank face. Oota conspires to break her placid demeanor through scares and mischievous schemes, though his tactics always seem to backfire. Oota is known as the class clown and is constantly disciplined by his teacher, who claims "his face gives it away." To no fault of his own, he lacks control of his emotions and facial expressions. Kashiwada, on the other hand, seems perpetually emotionless and unreadable—no one knows what she is thinking! Oota and Kashiwada are complete opposites, but that does not stop a unique relationship from developing between them. As they realize their feelings for each other, it raises an important question: do opposites really attract? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This was one nice and cute romance anime about expressive boy and inexpressive girl, and it was fun ride from 1st to last episode. People say that this is similar to Aharen anime and I must agree on certain points, although boy character is much different than one from Aharen and becasue of that the dynamic is better at least imho. Animation and sound: pretty good. Animation is fluent with no quality drop and music is fine with no noticeable soundtracks. Overall: animation and music are industry standard, not bad and not good. Characters: Main duo are Oota and Kashiwada, their entire dynamic is what makes thisshow good. Oota is a middle school boy who is energetic, prideful and loves challenges. Kashiwada is shy, nice and goodhearted girl. Because of her unique skill to not show any emotion on her face regardless of the situation, Oota made it his life goal to put a reaction on it no matter what it takes. Joining them are Sata and Takodoro, who are Oota's male friends. These two are always by Oota's side, occasionally helping him in some regard but most of the time they exist to comment on his actions. Later we are introduced to Tabuchi-san who is class representative and a gigantic fan of Koshiwada, tryign to "protect" her from Oota. And last, but not least, Odajima-san who joins to crew a little late but is only one that can read Kashiwada's expressions. When you mix all of them together you get expected amount of slice of life enjoyment. Overall: Main duo is entertaining and supporting cast is good addition to spice things up a bit. Story: it's rather simple - a boy is teasing a girl in order to get emotion from her. That's it. Rather than being long arc storyline the episodes cover one chapter short stories from manga. There is no real sense of progress, only different scenes which include all the cliché situations that we have all come to love or hate depending on your taste. I came into this anime expecting nothing more than cute and wholesome moments and I was not disappointed. Overall: story is very simple and it revolves around the main theme of the show, nothing more and nothing less. Overall grade: 8, I gave it a 10 as that how much personally I enjoyed it. But realistic grade is around 7.5 to 8. It is a decent wholesome slice of life show and it plays that card very safely. If you come into that expecting only this then you will have very enjoyable time. In the end I am recommending it, it's one of those shows you watch at once for weekend in order to heal your exhausted soul with much needed positive energy.

This show should've been called "pathetic, angry jerk relentlessly bullies an autistic classmate." I'd have given this a much higher rating if it weren't for the insufferable male lead, Oota. Kashiwada is a perfectly loveable oddball as the female lead, and the supporting cast of their fellow classmates/friends are all colorful and interesting characters. And the premise of the show, an expressive boy trying to get a reaction out of his stony-faced classmate, sounds like a fun time with silly antics and some light romance. But Oota is such an irredeemable piece of shit. Nevermind the fact that Kashiwada doesn't seem to mind his constant picking onher, but he always ends up going overboard and saying or doing something so off the wall cruel to her, then just tells everyone around him to shut the hell up when they call him out for his nasty behavior while refusing to acknowledge the guilt he feels over taking his bullying too far. In fact I think out of all the awful things he says and does to Kashiwada, he only actually offers an apology once, and he obviously didn't grow as a character because in the very next bit he's right back to being nasty to her again. The only person who really seemed to have Oota pegged for the punkass he is was Kashiwada's older brother. Beyond him, Oota is never really taken to task and held accountable for his behavior. He just goes on right up to the end of the final episode being awful to Kashiwada, who for reasons completely unknown just continues to crush on him. Just a frustrating experience all throughout.
Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota The seasonal shoujo middle/high school slowburn romance anime, the anime straight away gave me " Komi can't communicate " vibes but with half the ffort and alot of side character screen time, we have a inexpresive Kashiwada san, a Tsundere Oota kun and a bunch of side characters of various personalities making the story a little cluttered and as the manga had short stories the anime has almost 2-3 short stories each episode so so many different personality characters packed in 24 mins showing 2-3 episodes gives less screentime to the MCs well except that the anime is quiet and funnyno flashy animations and dialouges. The manga ended 2.5 years ago so the conclusion must have been that Kashiwada and Oota got together reaching the end of the story ( I haven' read the manga ) but for the anime the last episode somehow gave the vibes of " NO MORE SEQUEL " feels like the studio indicated that the anime won't be getting a sequel as the last scene was kinda " proper end to anime " But if the anime gets a sequel announced it will be fun to watch it for sure as the anime is kinda relaxing and fun to watch with the slowburn romance .
This was one of those anime where I didn't plan to watch it but it caught my eye for some reason when it started airing. I really liked it. The characters were silly, dramatic, and kind of relatable. I've seen some with similar love interest premises that ended up making one of the characters too mean or rewarding the meaner character for bad behavior, so it was nice to see this story avoid those pitfalls. I would definitely watch a season 2 but I think that the ending was good for a one shot anime too. If you want to watch something cute and funnythat you don't have to think too much about, then this is a nice anime to watch. If you don't like it when one of the love interests messes with the other too much, then you might not like this one.
The story focuses on the unique dynamic between two classmates: Kashiwada-san: A girl who possesses an absolute "poker face." Whether she is happy, sad, scared, or in love, her expression remains exactly the same—neutral and unmoving. Oota-kun: The complete opposite. He is like an open book; every thought and emotion he feels is immediately plastered across his face in an exaggerated way. Oota is constantly trying to "break" Kashiwada's expression by telling jokes, playing pranks, or trying to startle her. However, he always ends up being the one who gets embarrassed or overreacts, leading to hilarious situations. 1. Visual Comedy The biggestdraw here is the visual contrast. Seeing Oota's extremely elastic and expressive reactions next to Kashiwada's perfectly static face creates excellent comic timing. The fun isn't just in what they say, but in how (or how they don't) react. 2. A Sweet "Slow Burn" Romance While the focus is on comedy, there is a genuine romance growing. Oota is obsessed with Kashiwada (even if he denies it), and the charm of the work lies in noticing the small clues that Kashiwada, despite her unmoving face, truly enjoys his attention. She expresses herself through subtle actions, and Oota is, ironically, the only one who begins to "read" these nuances. 3. Supporting Characters Much like other comedies in the genre (such as Komi-san or Aharen-san), the side characters help maintain the rhythm. They frequently misunderstand Oota's intentions or try to help (or hinder) the relationship between the two protagonists. If you liked...Will you like this title? Komi Can't CommunicateYes, for the communication struggles and cuteness. Aharen-san wa HakarenaiDefinitely, the humor style is very similar. Teasing Master Takagi-sanYes, the "who will get embarrassed first" game is present. Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun is a light and perfect read (or watch) to de-stress. Don't expect deep drama or complex plot twists; the brilliance of the work lies in the simplicity of seeing two people so different trying to understand each other through facial expressions—or the lack thereof.
People come in different shapes and sizes in terms of personality. We have people who are expressive and those who aren't. "Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota" is a romantic comedy that headlines an expressionless girl and an expressive boy. The show has a simple premise but makes a lot out of it. How an inexpressive Kashiwada has trouble showing off her emotions. Meanwhile, Oota, who is overly expressive, truly has good intentions. Simply, you can just see how much they care for each other. In fact, even more so how they rub off on each other. For those looking for a pure, wholesome RomCom this isthe show for you. Though interesting enough, the inexpressive vs. expressive theme isn't just with our leads. The whole cast has their own particular quirks with their expressions. Again, simply, something simple done well. In terms of visuals, the show doesn't have much animation, but it hides it well. Direction in the anime is good, and the sound direction really aids in that. Elevates both the wholesome and comedic moments in the show. If you want a pure fluff romantic comedy, this show is absolutely what you are looking for.
