Nayu Hayama makes quite an impression on everyone at Ounan Middle School when she trips while attempting to get on stage to make a speech. The unfortunate incident causes Nayu to flash her unusual underwear in front of the entire freshman class, marking an eventful start to the school year. Underwear is Nayu’s passion, and she believes that possessing a good selection of them is important to women of all ages. However, her desire to spread this wisdom to her classmates and teachers is not an easy task to accomplish. Not only does her odd hobby circulate embarrassing and uncomfortable rumors, but it also leads to unwanted attention from the opposite sex. With obstacles to her underwear school revolution beginning to mount, Nayu has her work cut out for her. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I originally watched this show because the synopsis for it seemed absolutely ridiculous, but surprisingly enough it was good for a lot more than just cheap laughs. After reading other people's opinion on it, it made me very sad how few people really understand this anime. The target audience is in fact not horny young men attracted to 2D girls. It isn't even ecchi. It is targeted to everyone with an open mind. The message this show is trying to get across is that underwear is a lot more than just eye-candy for men. It portrays painfully well what the state of the world is for underwearand how people can't shake off the belief that it is something shameful, something to hide and talk about only in secrecy -- which is a pity, because, as this show proves, there is a lot to be said there, and the designs are worth admiring. While the anime is lacking in visuals, sound and unique characters (except Nayu), many of the problems it deals with no anime to my knowledge has dealt with before.
By now, every regular MAL visitor is pretty much used to all sorts of anime, be it action, drama, romance, or something light-hearted and silly. There is one thing a lot of them have in common, though: They can be rather naughty from time to time. To see an anime that takes the subject of showing off cleavage and underwear without trying to lean towards the 'ecchi' side is rather courageous. It didn't exactly succeed in staying innocent and all, but it did bring us a silly yet heart-warming story featuring characters with each their own personality, a loose yet fitting storyline and some fairlydecent art. "Chuu Bra!!" is really an anime targeted towards a female audience. It's light-hearted, silly and involves girls talking about their undergarments. For guys, this might take a turn to the pervy, but it's not all that bad. It did add in some subtle elements to prevent leaning towards a female-only audience too much by including a guy's perspective, and some rather "interesting" scenes which to be honest didn't exactly have to be in there, but they were a fun extra bit. The story involves a girl named Nayu Hayama, a middle schooler with an obsession for female underwear. After accidentally tripping during the opening ceremony and revealing some rather interesting panties, rumors stated some wrong things about her, but this didn't stop her from making some good friends and starting a "society" (club-like, but not a club) that researches underwear for girls who are not sure what kind they should be wearing. The whole society is pretty much the main plot element that keeps the story together, as the main characters always meet up during events and such, which improves their overall character development. The society includes our main character, two of her female friends (Yako and Haruka), and a guy who can't look at underwear for a second without feeling embarassed (Hiroki). Later on, another girl joins in (the typical rich-type girl who looks tough and all, but is actually kind and stuff) named Kiyono. All the club really does is converse about underwear and the likes, but as in anime like K-On, it tends to lead to different everyday conversations. The rest is pretty standard school stuff, and event planning and such, similar to before said anime. Granted, the story seems a bit bland, but it's the whole "talking about underwear as if it's the most normal thing in the world" that makes the anime interesting. Normally, you'd expect it to go all ecchi and stuff when it comes to that, and it does have its moment from time to time, but it's surprisingly innocent as a whole. For the 12 episodes that it has, it's really nicely executed, and you can say it "provides fan-service without it feeling like fan-service". It simply doesn't feel naughty or anything, it's just fun to watch. The art and sound are basic. It's a shame the show itself got a very poor BD release, resulting in artefacts and poor upscaling. However, the art as a whole isn't that bad, but it's nothing special either. It's similar to anime like "Love Lab" and "K-On", which still makes it entertaining. Same goes for the sound, it being nothing special, but not bad either, and both the art and sound add to the overall silly atmosphere this anime has. It really fits well with the character builds, and I wouldn't have seen it drawn in any other way. In conclusion, this anime is a unique experience. Even though it's categorized as both "Comedy" and "Ecchi", it doesn't exactly feel like the latter should be marked, but it's understandable. Granted, the underwear bits (which there are a lot of) can be pleasing to the male eye and mind (or female depending on what you're into), but it's certainly not the main goal of the anime. Not only does it educate girls by learning them about proper underwear, it brings it in a way that both males and females can enjoy it without feeling awkward. The characters in overall are a lot of fun to watch, each sharing their own traits and having their own personality. Although character development is difficult with only 12 episodes, I think they did a pretty decent job at it. I would probably re-watch this with friends and have a laugh, too. It's quite a fun little anime, and although not exactly memorable, it does leave kind of an impression on you. I certainly would recommend giving this a try, either if you're into comedy or if you simply want to check out the "fan-service". Either way, it's a fun little show to watch inbetween. Something I never would've thought I would say about an anime mostly featuring women's underwear. At least, without having certain thoughts about it, if you know what I mean.
Honestly, this is one of the animes that gain low notes by the stupidest mistakes of the reviewers. So, i am gonna make things clear right from the beginning. Point 1: These are NOT elemental school girls, they are 15 in the least. Point 2: This is NOT a fanservice show, it may sound like so from the premise, but it has minimal amounts of fanservice, this is a story anime. Now that's taken care of, let's start with the actual review. Hayama Nayu is a fanatic for underwear, given that her grandmother and her brother are both designers, it is not unreal. She has goodgrades too, but dont have any friends, due to some nasty rumors spread by nasty girls. But, things start to improve when she manages to befriend two classmates, then they start to try and inform people about the right way to use underwear. I'll say it again, this is not a fanservice show, it deals with things like the taboo of the underwear, which keeps girls from asking about it, thus prompting them to use their underwear in the wrong way. And makes very hard to get the school to accept the underwear club. The character development is great, from Nayu learning to not run away from the difficulties, the other girls learning to accept her own bodies and Komachi (the boy of the club) learning to ignore the opinions of others, on the matter of him being on the underwear club. Of course it's more complicated than that, but i will spoil no more, it's best to see by yourselves. Woman will probably identify more with this show, as it adresses very real problems related to the teenage years, where your body is still developing and things start to get confuse, but it can be enjoyed by anyone. And last thing, it has NO ACTION, not even a single bit, managing to keep things entertaining only by the story and characters proves that is a good show. And now that is over, i would gladly watch a second season if it were ever produced, overall i like this show.
Here's the thing, this title delves into subject matter that is really ignored and that's underwear. It is something that a lot of people do, and that's wear incorrect type underwear be they male of female and this series attempts to address this subject matter. For example in the first episode when she is discussing appropriate comfortable bra size, this is applaudable because all too often women will wear a bra size that's too small for them causing them discomfort. However, what this series does wrong, and why I actually scored it so low was the fact that they address this topic not in aserious fashion but wrapped in full on ecchi comedy. Now not saying some comedic relief in the show is a bad thing, but they way it was handled here made it feel as though the show was using a serious subject to thinly disguise their desire to show under age girls in the most compromising situations possible. The episode director apparently thought that boob grabs, panty shots and all kinds comprimising situations was the best way to go when in reality it wasn't and that is what left a bad taste in a lot of viewers mouths and led to this title being rated low. You can't expect people to take something serious if all you do is place unnecessary ecchi moments throughout the episodes. Take away all the lewdness, add some serious intellectual and factual scenes and treat this subject matter with a little decency and you'll probably get a better more grounded response. The director and writer need to grow up before they attempt once again to handle a mature subject matter and quit treating it like a pervert in a playground.
This is honestly one of the cutest animes ever. Not only is it enjoyable, but it also is informational. I have a little sister and I swear I am going to make her watch this show. I have to admit, at first I was totally turned off by the whole idea of the show. Underwear obsessed girls in middle school? Then I realized that this is the time that girls need them the most. The story flow nicely, although I am completely surprised that it ended so suddenly. I would have loved to see a lot more done before the story ended. Where was this anime when I was in junior high. Yes panties get flashed a lot, however there is vital information being given to girls who are maturing into young adults. Sorry but the girls are in junior high not grade school. The theme is appropriate. Junior high girls seek advice about these things from one another. I feel as though this anime is an appropriate representation of junior high. This anime is much more then fan service to the gentle men. It is a proven fact most women do not wear appropriate size under garments. The main the character is on a mission tosee that female teachers and female students are properly educated about wearing cute but comfortable attire. She also just happens to an underwear monitor for her family who makes lingerie for teens. This anime is adorable and at times embarrassing, but who doesn't have an embarrassing moment from junior high. If you are ashamed from watching this anime, then your mind wasn't in the right place to begin with.
I'm sure when you started watching this anime, you were like me, saying "wtf?" If you stuck with this anime, i commend you. If you didn't, I understand. the whole panties theme is little bizarre. But the story focuses mainly on girls talking about their developing bodies and bras and panties. Story: 7 The story is mainly girls talking about their bodies as stated above. Nayu, a middle schooler has a huuuge love for panties and whats to share it with the world. She, and a few other friends, decide to make an "Underwear Club." Art: No complaints here. I was a little shocked at howmany types of underwear there was and how well designed they were. The character designs weren't perfect, but I still liked the design. Sound: The voices fit the characters very well (Please note: Havent read manga) The opening and ending were also good so not much to comment about here. Character: Nayu is a strange one, always obsessing about underwear. The other characters weren't bland, but not too "flavorful" either. I'm sorry to say that sometimes they were just "there." (Also, side note, the series could have done with a few more boys, at least one more.) Enjoyment: This was very enjoyable to me.At some points it made me laugh and some point it made me realize how much some people are willing to dedicate to a cause they love. Also, I think i learned everything i would ever want to know about a girl's body and how to fit different types of underwear without having to buy a book that says "A woman's Body." Overall: I wouldn't recommend to anyone that hates a little bit of ecchi or slight loli-con. Otherwise, i say this is a good anime and you have to watch it until the end because at the end you'll realize how much you have learned about a woman's body.
This anime was quite an enjoyment for me. The main character Nayu with her misunderstandings and her love for underwear!~ Yes, I am a little lady too, so I found this really educational in a way. Underwear can protect you, it's not ecchi at all, unless you have issues. *sigh* The way how friendship grows, by first thinking that Nayu was selling herself to other men. She just loves underwear, nothing wrong with that! Right? ._. There are some scenes that made me want to puke rainbows, because I loved it and hated it at the same time. The ending was great and all, but itwas like a cliffhanger and made me want some more! *drools* I didn't mean it that way!!! o///o I just wanted more lessons about underwear, maybe. I usually don't watch anime with many girls in it, but it was fun watching it again. Ah~ The Underwear Appreciation Society shall be acknowledged! It deserves to have another season!
*Spoiler Free* Now this is my first review but counting the amount of reviews for this show I figured I had to pitch in. First what I want to say, is that if you are looking for a good story with strong character development, you are looking in the wrong place. This show is for the light hearted and/ or for people who want to relax when they watch this anime. Story: 3/10 As I said above the story is weak. As you see in the show's description, it's an ecchi which includes young girls. The cover picture that you see for this show is basically as muchstory as you can hope to get out of this anime. Art: 9/10 The art style is good! Personally, I am planning to watch animes with what I consider "good" art styles. So I am talking about the new, kind of "in" art style that I feel a lot of new anime's are going for. I rated it an 9 because there isn't anything outstanding when you watch it.. there aren't many moments where you sit back and you're like "damn". Its just a good, HD anime and I feel is was very appropriate for this show. Sound: 9/10 The character voice actors are great. They are acting as young girls and honestly, you would think that these voice actors are young girls just like they are in the anime. So that's all good. The older the person as well, you can definitely feel that age difference in their voice. Secondly the actual music, intro/ outro. I really enjoy these songs, they are the type of songs that I could listen to, to help me wake up. They are up there in my favorite songs and better yet, they are sung by the girls in the anime! When you listen to them, you can really feel the presence of this anime behind them. It sounds like a bunch of young girls having fun and feeling young. For some of the anime songs that I have in my playlist, I don't remember the anime that they came from. But when you hear these intro/ outros you can tell right away they came from Chu-Bra!! Overall good sound and there isn't much more I would expect. Enjoyment: 8/10 I enjoyed this anime for sure. It was fun and light hearted and amongst all the other things I have going on in my life, watching this anime is like a nice break from all of that. I'm not a mega critic like some people, such as I don't see myself rating an anime low unless I really really disliked it. I enjoy all types of anime and this one as well. Although despite this, I do not see myself watching this anime again in the future. Its an anime that you can have fun with the first time around, but after that I cannot see myself wanting to come back for seconds. Overall: 7.5/10 If you aren't a strict anime critic and you are one of those people that can enjoy the little things in life, this anime is for you. If you watch it and come out hating it, it truly is your fault. I think going into this anime you should 100% know what you are getting into especially after reading this review. To recap you are getting into an ecchi, little story, little girls having fun for the sake of having fun kind-of-anime. No surprises there.
This anime overall was very good. Also it wasn't created for hentai.. It, in mu opinion, was created for young girls so that they can realize underwear isn't something to be scared to talk about. Overall I liked this anime. It was cute.
