I don't know whether you would consider this an anime or not, but if so, then this is an abomination. Not only is the imagery appalling; the music is complete with incoherent lyrics, and obnoxious screaming. The video makes no sense I don't see how anyone can think otherwise. This isn't artistic or an imaginative piece of work. It is a deplorable music video that should not exist. But sadly, it does. And I wish I could un-see it completely. Unless you want to watch this out of curiosity or as just a challenge; avoid it like the plague.
Let me get this point clear. {In my opinion...} "Agitated Screams of Maggots" is NOT an anime. It is an animated music video. I don't believe that since it's "animated" it should be counted as an anime. There's a thick line between the two... Notice this: those who haven't been through the ever-changing DIR EN GREY timeline (especially during their earlier stages) will be highly disturbed by the art, message, and song. This video was released in 2006 and during that time DIR EN GREY was still in its "ero-guro" days where they mostly sang and portrayed sexually grotesque themes. Judging from the lyrics, thissong is most definitely about rape, violence, and revenge. i.e.: "I'll rape your daughter on your grave" and "I'm gonna slash your wound just like mine". (A majority of the lyrics are repeated throughout the song). The lyrics, music, and animation were all in sync. I couldn't expect less and I wasn't disappointed. When I first watched it in 2009 (and even now), I absolutely loved the feral themes DIR EN GREY portrayed in such a fragile country. Who would've been brave enough to spit acid through the mic and release a CD about it and be prepared for the harsh criticism from the rock and music scene. The animation was absolutely unique by it's intensity from the shape shifting man, maggots, gore, and creatures to the subtlety of the girl who later becomes intense with rage and revenge. (If you look closely all the members are also shown in the music video... Their heads float rapidly around the vegetables on the table).
Dir En Grey is something of a controversial band. Since its conception more than a decade ago, it had for a long time been at the forefront of the Visual Kei movement in challenging the norms of music, sexuality, and morality. Of course, the distinction between meaningful social critique and unsubstantial shock value is not always clear-cut, as is the case with the anime in question. Agitated Screams of Maggots is a single released by Dir En Grey in 2006. This anime, or music video to be more precise, was released alongside the single featuring a hand-drawn story to complement the song. As the banditself, this music video is undoubtedly and inherently a controversial work. Composed of heavy deathcore playing alongside crudely drawn animations with inspirations from the ero-guro and the surrealist movement, it certainly is not easily appreciated by everyone. This video sets out with the intentions of revolting its viewers with morbid imagery and macabre sound, and invariably succeeds in that regard. As hinted at by its name, Agitated Screams of Maggots is an incredibly grotesque work both visually and aurally. The viewers are introduced to a woman, who during cooking is startled by a giant maggot which she slices asunder in panic. The two pieces of remains, while apparently engaging in intercourse with each other, are subsequently discovered by the daughter who, in her naïve revulsion, proceeds to stomp them to death. Later on during dinner, the mother is infected by a maggot, turns into a monstrous being, and is ultimately tortured and killed by the daughter. The story of Agitated Screams of Maggots, already immensely repugnant, is further brutalized by its depiction. The animation is a slideshow of hand-drawn paintings characterized by a raw and sketchy appearance. In conjunction with the noticeably low frame rate, the animations emanate a glitched and discomforting vibe. The art style employs a mix of surreal absurdity with the exaggerated and uncensored display of sexuality and gore typical to the ero-guro movement. While being mostly monochrome, a portion of the gore is coloured blood red in contrast to its pale surroundings, which gives it an unnatural and disturbing vividness. Due to the roughness of the art and animation, it is easy to miss the amount of painstaking detail etched into them. The shading is outstanding, giving a three dimensional solidity where needed but without ever deviating from the sketch-art design. The style, however, is dynamic throughout the video: some scenes are drawn with greater spatial depth than others; the stroke smoothness and definition varies in different scenes; and some drawn backgrounds are replaced with complete blackness. The different techniques are utilized for a range of reasons, such as mood setting, foreground emphasis, and psychological significance. The plain and unpleasant art design often obscures the true aesthetic merit of this video from the neglecting eye. While the animation is merely a complement for the song by Dir En Grey, and not the other way around, the music is in actuality rather inconsequential to the holistic work of the video. The song Agitated Screams of Maggots is a typical composition of the deathcore subgenre; it combines aggressive guitar riffs, wild drumming, shrieks, and growls into a flurry of madness and anger. While the tone of the song reflects and enhances the overall atmosphere of the video, the different segments are not synchronized with the separate parts of the video. Dir En Grey’s musical style gone through constant change since its formation, with a gradual but tangible shift from its signature experimental and avant garde style into more conventional forms of metal. Agitated Screams of Maggots can be placed on the latter end of the spectrum; it conforms to the standards of death metal, and is relatively monotone compared to the band’s more disturbing earlier songs which would be more suitable of the atmosphere. The music simply does not strengthen the video as much as the animation style does. The gruesome albeit nonsensical story of Agitated Screams of Maggots is meaningless unless viewed in context with its lyrics, which details a person’s despair and resentment toward celebrities and the society which supports them. Sadly, the lyrics are yelled rather than spoken, making it impossible to discern any meaning whatsoever from hearing alone. This leads to the misconception that the animation’s only relevance to the music is the loose connection of the maggot. When contextualized, it becomes apparent that the song is sung from the maggot’s perspective. The person, compared to celebrities, is symbolically reduced to the rank of a maggot, and may only vent his frustration through agitated screams. Nevertheless, not all themes are matched completely, and substantial room is open for analysis and interpretation, such as the infection of the mother and the thematic role of the daughter. Interpretation is further complicated by Dir En Grey’s relationship with stardom, as they are veritable celebrities themselves. Agitated Screams of Maggots can in essence be seen as a revoltingly macabre music video; whether or not its song is to the viewer’s palate will dictate to a great degree the enjoyment that is derived from it. Though it is worth noting that Agitated Scream of Maggots was never meant to be viewed for pleasure to begin with; if you are not sickened and forced to the edge of your seat, you are not enjoying it the right way. Nevertheless, the story’s thematic and symbolic significance should not be entirely disregarded. Contrary to what it is often perceived as, Agitated Screams of Maggots is more than a mindless jumble of freaks and ghouls with shrieks and growls.
I've been looking for a horror; something creepy or psychological, and was glad to see this and another disturbia-esque animation recommended on my homepage. I went to watch it and ,at first, thought I had clicked on a remake or something because the terrible music that accompanied the video was bothersome and didn't fit well with the animation. Unfortunately, all I could find was the same video, so I figured it was legit. I watched it--no suffered through it. It's engrossing. You can't move your eyes from the images because they are visually stimulating in a frown-while-you-watch-it kind of way. It's alsogross and a tad bit pedophilic. Some things should not be near the face or in the mouth of a child. No exceptions.
I usually write about the pros and cons of an anime when I do reviews, but because I had such a hatred towards Agitated Screams of Maggots, I will be saying only why I disliked it. I watched this anime out of curiosity. I didn't quite know what I was getting myself into, and perhaps that is my own fault. Nonetheless, there is NO EXCUSE for making such horrible piece of trash. The music used in this short anime video is terrible. I hate it more than words can possibly describe. I was able to get through the video, despite this, due to the fact thatit was only 3 minutes long. Unfortunately, it felt like an eternity. Imagine someone screaming in your ears for 3 minutes straight. It is insufferable. The saddest thing about this short anime is that the visuals are pretty good. It's too bad the music destroyed any sort of value to this anime. I can't let an anime as bad as this get away with what it did to me. I doubt I will ever see an anime nearly as bad as this. And if I do, I'll probably rate it higher than this. Yes, I did enjoy the visuals, but I am not letting this anime go for such a small thing when everything else sucked. I give this anime a 1/10. Shame on everybody involved in the making of this video. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Seriously.
Honestly you guys are just pussies. It's not good but there really isn't that much I can say is wrong with it. Also the song is pretty good as well. The frame rate is really bad but I do think that was intentional and I think it worked. It's just a music video, no deeper meaning, at least I think there isn't. It's just some bizarre ass music video that served for the heaviness of the song. Also some of yall are dumb to not realize that the "shouting" serves a purpose and isn't some sort of substitute for other aspects of the song.
Before you watch this, ask yourself a couple of questions: -Do I like really, really disturbing imagery with no context? -Do I like screamo/metalcore/whatever the hell you classify Dir en grey as? - Am I okay with the fact that this is a music video? If you said no to any of these questions, you're going to hate this "anime". Anyway, on to my thoughts, there's not much to say. I like Dir en grey. I liked this song even before I saw the video. I like disturbing crap. Therefore I liked this "anime". But for the sake of structure:Story (1): What story? Art(6): The gore is relatively well drawn and uniquely stylized. That's about all I can say about it. Sound(9): I like Dir en grey's music, this song especially. Character(1): There was a little girl who did things... Enjoyment(8): As stated earlier, I like disturbing crap and I like this song. Overall(8): It's not really fair to criticize this as an "anime", as it really isn't one, but if I had to give it a score, that's what I would give it.
When it comes down to metal as a genre of music some people love it and some people hate it. I never had a issue with metal in fact I actually enjoy metal music in some ways. However this music video comes across a piss poor attempt to be edgy when it just simply flops on it's back. Agitated Screams of Maggots by Japanese metal band Dir En Gray. The story is honestly anyone's guess honestly I mean it seems like it would be interesting but it has no development or anything like that. The art looked on its actually one of the redeeming aspectsof this video. However it was quite choppy and cryptic looking(in a bad way). The. characters,oh dear the characters, there is nothing I repeat NOTHING to attempt to develop the characters at all,NOTHING. There is this dreadful death metal auto tuned garbage playing in the background that is just bad. In conclusion I had minimal enjoyment in Agitated Screams of Maggots. I just felt that there was nothing given to us by this video and all it is an attempt to shock us by throwing lewd and violent images at us in animation that has aged horribly and a dreadful metal song. Guys, there is much better metal music out there don't waste your time with this crap. Go listen to some quality metal and skip this one,it really isn't worth it.
Note: Character marked as one simply because there isn't much to base the characters off. Character: no opinion Watched for the music type genre in the anime watching challenge 2019 So, this isn't an anime for sure; it's animated not anime but I used this for my AWC19 challenge as a new Dir En Grey fan as something that interested me in the music side of things. As a new fan, I didn't know much about Dir En Grey's past in music past what a friend of mine had told me so Agitating Screams was a bit of a what the hell moment for me. After rewatchingit, it's somewhat obvious this is ero-guro style, so of course, not everyone is going to enjoy this unless you have a liking towards body horror artwork and a general liking for rock music or Dir En Grey. Overall, this is an angry disturbed music video with a lot of strange and disturbing lyrics (most notably: "I'll rape your daughter on your grave"). It is disturbing and my repetition in using the adjective is because there isn't much else to describe it. For me, it's somewhat classic angry-rock with a style in a medium that I very much enjoy reading and watching in anime and manga. I think if you're not keen on ero-guro, this might be very unsettling and even maybe hard to stomach even with the animated style taking it away from a realistic look. I did enjoy this more as a DEG fan. It's a nice look into their background as a band and to see the stuff they did as they started but honestly; if you're not an ero-guro fan and/or fan of the band, it's probably best if you stay away from it.
What's this video? My ears hurt so much. It's like torture. 3 minutes of torture. I don't even know why I watch this. The animation is disgusting and scary. I can't look at the video because of them. The kid in the video is so scary and all of the censored scenes, and blood just disgusting. I feel so bad. Uhhhh I hope, I never remember this video. I didn't like the music too. Just screaming. It's gross and I kinda feel that's video a little bit pedophilic. And how this is consider as anime ? I can't understand. Anyway, please for your sake don't watchthis torture pardon me anime.
Overall 1 This is a music anime:genre heavy metal Sound:Again with heavy metal put in some damn subtitles if you insist on making a heavy metal music video. Otherwise the audience will just here my groans of agony and of course the artists too along with their heavy breathing. Art: could be at high definition and some parts appear semi blurred. so, art was not that good story: random! That pisses me off. If you are going to do a story have the audience follow with you. Character: given the random art the only way this could possible make sense is if it was a dream sequence. Which it couldvery well have been assuming it was a NIGHTMARE! even then, i have had plenty of scarier nightmares. enjoyment: Out of my extreme dislike of this music video there was one thing i did like that just so happens to sum my feelings towards this piece. any guesses? the answer where the monster crapped in front of the young girls face. yes, that is right i did say it was rather Shi_y.
I'm a Visual Kei fan first and foremost and Dir en Grey is one of my favourite bands. I used to hate them back when I was younger, believe it or not! I hated them for the same reasons why other non-VK fans hate them; Diru plays loud, aggressive screechy music with lyrics that went too far. However, my opinion changed when exposed to their other works, and as I grew older. I have the utmost respect for their continuous boundary-pushing, ever since they went off the rails in their debut full-length album Gauze (Missa, while a satisfying Kote romp, is far from novel). Atevery turn, their music and PVs suffered censorship (why do you think egnirys cimredopyh is spelled like that? They literally had to reverse the title to AVOID JAIL TIME!) but they never lost heart and continue to push the envelope and experiment, even to this very day. Agitated Screams of Maggots continues along these lines, with horrific imagery of an Eroguro nature. It pairs with Kyo's lyrics, which are rather fittingly about critiques of shocking material and groups like Diru. It's more of a critique of mainstream celebs (and normies, to an extent) who try to co-opt lukewarm shock material (inverted crosses and black lipstick OMG!!!) for attention and money, yet bemoan those who genuinely make their art and very lives center around it. I relate to it, on that level... Anyway, I only recommend it to Diru and Deathcore fans, and maybe showing it to your little sibling as revenge as we all did with OBSCURE as kids (ahhh, the memories!)
DO NOT WATCH UNLESS: - If you want to watch an AMV (with non classic anime art style) - You don´t have a faint of heart - Feeling up for listening to extreme, progressive and experimental metal - You don´t mind seeing quite hardcore gore, brutality and such. - You don´t mind being mindfuck. I did enjoy it but that is also because I fit the criteria above XD (Whatever that says about me) The art is a double edge sword either you like it or hate it, I thought it was quite fitting for the song and the theme and it was also quite different ^^So yeah again note that is not an anime series or anything like it, it is a music video for a metal band therefore expect it to be hardcore ^^
THIS SONG IS THE SHIT. PEOPLE CAN HAVE THEIR SAY, BUT I R8 THIS 10/10. ALL THESE WEABOO LISA, AOI EIR, CLARIS FANBOYS ARE ALWAYS QUICK TO JUDGE ECCENTRIC MUSIC, YET NONE OF THOSE ARTISTS COMPOSE OR EVEN WRITE THEIR OWN MUSIC. SAD... In all seriousness though, the animation is okay and the music is acceptable depending on how open minded you are. It's similar to a lot of Dir En Grey MVs as it revolves around many dark themes. The lead vocalist, Kyo, is notorious for never writing a happy song, which you could probably guess by the lyrics of Agitated Screams of Maggots. Overall,it's not that bad. Considering how shit recent years' anime are, and the number of people that still watch, I wouldn't be surprised if people acquired a taste for this stuff.
This is a song and NOT AN ANIME created in 2006 and it describes the grotesque phenomenons of sexuals violence (example: i’ll rape your daughter on your grave). I found kind of interesting the way the producer of this song wanted to deliver the message of sexual violence (raw and direct). I also enjoyed the gore and cruel animations showed in this video and i found them interesting. Also the music was on point. Overall kinda decent so i gave this a 6 out of 10. I don’t understand why so many people get triggered to the fact that this is not an anime but onlya song lol.
Dir en Grey has some good and artistic MVs, but this wasn't one of them. This video was just a mix of gore and sexual images without a clear meaning (maybe rape, I think), nothing else. I was really uncomfortable the first time I watched this, especially the sexual attack to the little girl. Maybe if you like gore you can find this enjoyable, but I can't find the amusement in seeing a mild aged man almost rape a child. The animation was alright, the style good. There wasn't an attempt of a story The song wasn't my favourite of the band, but that's my personal opinion.
A painting can be pretty but not artistic at the same time. Yes, it can still be considered as an art since the way the painter draw a line or the scenery or something presented in the canvas is already an art. But the concept of the thing inside the painting itself is an art or not depends on the massage it tries to convey. If the painting doesn't have any meaning behind it then, as a concept, it's not artistic. And the same way also works for something ugly. What makes something considered as artistic doesn't depend on how pretty it is, but howbeautiful the way the concept presented. While about the concept is pretty or ugly is not important. Agitated Screams of Maggots is about hatred and revenge delivered in an unconventional way through a 3 min short animation with a song by Dir en Grey that has such a strong and vulgar lyric. The short animation adds a dark atmosphere and ugliness by its ugly characters and eroguro scenes that will make the audience wondering what was wrong with someone who made this video. Not mention the music is so noisy as it's metal one and the singer just screams from the start to the end. 'I'll rape your daughter in the grave' is shouted out by the singer over and over through this short animation as the video shows the exact presentation of the lyric. That's said, this short animation is full of uncomfortable scenes with genital vulgarism, attempt to rape a child. Despite how negative this short animation is sounded. It also contains a positive massage behind it. From the start, the raper is shown dominating the situation and (maybe) successful in taking revenge but brutally finished later. This can be interpret as the author knows what revenge does to a person. It's a presentation of the cycle of revenge. You can take revenge to someone, but someone precious to them will come to yo to take revenge. Therefore, revenge doesn't only hurt its victim but also hurts the one who gets revenge. Agitated Screams of Maggots is a hatred and frustration of someone that delivered indirectly and beautifully through unconventional way. It's an expression. If a painter delivers his frustration through his painting. A singer delivers his frustration through his song. It's artistic, and definitely a piece of art.
