Two years ago, the world was saved by Dan Bashin and the other light bearers of the cores. Having once risked his life in Grand Rolo's strife, Dan no longer finds passion in the mundanity of everyday card battles. When Dan desires to clash against stronger opponents, he is approached by Mai Shinomiya. She offers to bring him to the future, the stage of a new conflict where Dan's strength is needed.
The two arrive in the year 2650, where civilization has been ravaged by the struggle for power between mankind and an otherworldly race known as "Mazoku." As humanity begins to crumble under the dominance of the Mazoku, the hardened light bearers are destined to cross paths once more. Armed with new cards from the future, Dan and the other warriors must yet again bear the fate of humanity on their shoulders.

First off, I'm going to start by saying this: This show can be watched as a stand alone, but I would not recommend it. It would be better to watch the prequel (Dan) first. After the disappointing execution of an interesting plot in Toppa (first battle spirits series, absolutely skippable), came Dan. To me, it started becoming interesting half way through. I had hopes for its sequel series Brave, and I was let down. I found the first half of Dan to be a typical episodic card based isekai, and the second half to be much more plot focused, and my enjoyment went up. InBrave however, the series starts off strong, and keeps its momentum for most of the watch through. I was disapointed because I expected it to also grab me after a twist, but I was already grabbed.
TL;DR: Dan was good because it had a slow start, but Brave is good throughout, and thus has no surprise 'wow, that's awesome' moments.
The story is interesting. It revolves around character relationships a lot, and even though I dislike Youth (one of the most prominent side characters), he develops well. Also, if you're expecting more from Kajistu and Yuki, they exist, but aren't very plot relevant.
The series isn't very linear, and the plot is all over the place. However, it reflects well on how they deal with everything happening around the world, and I like it. I'd give an 8 for story, and a 9 for characters.
Art: 7. I don't have much to say. I'd also give the sound a 7.
Enjoyment: 9/10. I would also feel confortable giving it an 8, since, like the previous 2 series, the card game isn't super interesting IMO.
Total: 8/10.
If you liked Dan, you should like Brave.

Yes, Dan is more mature.
There isn't more focus on the relationship between Mai and Dan than in the previous series. It's just accepted that they like each other, but Dan has another passion. Not much more than that.
As I said, the story is all over the place, but if that doesn't matter to you, then that's one of the charms of this series.
Indeed, the only characters from the previous series with an important role are Dan and Mai.

Battle Spirits Brave, the second half of the Dan Saga and by all means an honorary mecha anime and one of the best card game anime of all time. Card games, but with a real robot plot, and a super robot inspired card game mechanics and a damaged main character who wants a thrilling battle because yeah, maybe this bearer of cores light business wouldn't make one go easily back to being a normal person. Dan is the man, and he's fighting in the future for peace once more, regardless of what either side thinks and it's great. It seems to some degree the writershad to hold back on the setting, however they get it across very hard: Bashin Dan will end racism
