Welcome back to another full hour class with Idiots from the F class. I shall be your mentor today for this review! At the end of this lesson, you will be able to; -Learn how to Cross-dress -Blackmail people into submission -Back-stab your best friend -Find other uses for women undergarments (For example a head accessory for all you skin head types. -Score between 6-8 marks on "Classics" subject -Hack a state of the art machine -Join the KKK, erm.. I mean the FFF-Confess to another girl using your friends voice -Blow up your school Period 1: Story For every educational institute there will always be a class which even though is not a very well publicize fact, "The Last Class" and Fumizuki Academy made no exception. The academy's harsh policy of bullying the "stupid" in order to encourage them to succeed in education (using their own standards of measurements) doesn't mean the academy does not provide alternative solution for the "Idiots" to escape their ill fate. Who would imagine Fumizuki Academy, a well known academy for developing the "Summoned" Beast Battle system would have a school festival like all those other normal schools. The OVA provides the same plot device like in the original series. F class trying their best to get better facilities for themselves, Akhisa working hard for Himeji's sake, Yuuji running away from his inevitable marriage with Shouko, Muttsurini taking more pervertic shots and yet not having to deal with the wrath of his female peers (lucky bastard) and so on and so on... Expect more nonsensical story courtesy of the "Idiots" Period 2: Art and Music Improvement in the "Summon" battle animation but to not such a major extent. BGM are recycled from the original series however new opening and ending songs are introduced. (Though by the same artist) Now, a little not known fact, the ending theme for this OVA, "Getsuyou wa Kirai" or english translation "I Hate Monday" was responsible for inspiring Rebecca Black's "Friday" In both song they constantly repeated the day name in the lyrics. Only difference is Rebecca Black loves Friday and the Baka cast hates Monday. Alright, you know I'm just kidding right... And who doesn't get bored of Akhisa's insufferable screams of misery? Yes, the seiyuus have not lost their passion and emotions from the first season. Period 3: Philosophy A wise old man once said, "The bigger the size of your harem, the higher the number of cockblocking you're bound to get" Ok, maybe it wasn't a wise man but a horny old man. What's the difference anyways? However this concept does not apply to Baka To Test. Even though Akhisa has only the minimum requirement to have his own "Harem" he is constantly harass by his fellow FFF members. Period 4: Overall In a nutshell, the 2 OVAs are practically just the sum of all the stupidity and humor brought upon us in the first season. If you have watch the 1st season over a hundred times (like me... sigh why did I have to do that....) you might not find the jokes as humorous as it used to be. Nevertheless the OVA was sticking according to the manga and thus was the preparation for what's in store for us in season 2. If you're a fan of the first season and not don't get bored easily by recycled jokes, then you might as well attend this full hour class of Idiocracy. Great minds think alike. Fools seldom differs. Idiots will always be idiots... Haremu Kingu, Signing off!
The OVA series follow right after the first season. It encompasses the school festival and as far as I can see a extra event that offers no sort of critical plot advancement… But how many of us enjoyed it for only that aspect now? If your looking for a good laugh these OVAs will supply. The first episode covers the classroom event, of which class F fails yet again to decide on time. However, due to a need to prove themselves worthy of himeji, exactly why to be excluded, they set off to make as much sales to graduate from cardboard boxes. A Voyeur shining episode, with some cross dressing to add on. Alas this isn't a summary, but a review. All in all, the first episode felt to me like an average episode for this show. However, the second episode understands the importance to the summoned battles and provides us with a whole tournament! Yes, we get to see plenty of battles, and of course the underhanded tactics our F class friends must employ to stand up to the rest of the teams. I am usually jaded when it comes to jokes, which one might find odd or not seeing how I still love these types of shows, but this episode was seriously hilarious. The OVA wisely implements the unique characteristics of almost every single character in the show at least one point. With the advent of a new season, at least at the time of the review, it allowed me to get excited for what is just around the corner! Episodes: 9 X 10 X Total: 19/20 Score: 9.5
Too many times are the same jokes recycled and reused. Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu: Matsuri is the OVA extension that was released before the premiere of the second season. It continues on from (around) the end of the first season and follows the main characters at a festival held at their school. Although occasionally witty and interesting, this OVA series loses its charm quickly. Nothing in this OVA series is new - it recycles the same kind of plot format as the first season. Some may argue that this is fine, but in this case it does not do much justice to the series as awhole. The characters are the same as the first season - all with their own unique individual personalities. But also as with the first season, there's not much development at all. As you'll clearly see, none of the characters advance in their relationships with other. Art and sound is still on point, as with the first season. You can see the detail that the studio put into its art and audio. All in all, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu: Matsuri is not bad - it just doesn't do anything new. tl;dr Story: 4 Art: 6 Sound: 6 Character: 4 Enjoyment: 7 Overall: 4 Pros: - Humorous - There is a clearly depicted plotline Cons: - The design of the plot is nothing different from the first season - Little character development - Jokes/actions are recycled from the first season
I believe matsuri captures the essence of what baka to test to shokanjuu, comedy is about: Summon wars, comedy and mild sex appeal. Also, please watch the first season or a lot of the story will go over your head.down grading its rank to a six or seven. 1. The story is rather old F class just trying to better it's crappy situation having only art boards as desks, but it soon turns interesting with blackmail, fear and Chinese cafes. The comedy sort of touched me and it is mainly the absurdity of it all that gets me rolling 2. The art is roughly the sameas the last it suits the story well enough, Having many cartoonesque re-imaginations in shokanjuu or summon beings. 3.Sound is okay the opening and ending give the same tone a festival kind of thing I'm not really great at explaining music. 4. I love the characters the FFF, ("heretics") and the idiot akihsa getting owned in multiple ways, my favorite character tsuchiya doing the ninja thing, and yuiji being super devious. There is no character development in the ova because it is an ova, but if you loved the characters from season 1 they all play some role in this. 5. Personally I got what I wanted from the ovas a summoned battle, comedy and well fun. I think people will enjoy it if they liked the first season. 6. Well that's it whatever tell me how I did.
Well, I’m not sure what to say about this except that it’s similar to the TV version of the show. The comedy is the same as well as all the mess ups and luck that the group has at times weather good or bad. It’s only two episodes for crying out loud and trying to find a way to talk about it without spoilers is not that easy. We still have the same jokes that are an on going gag like one of the male students dressing female and we even get a chance to see Yoshii’s sister sort of have a cameo with hercooking. It’s pretty short so not much there except a good watch. The animation is stunning, bright and beautiful. The colors are almost brightened as a pastel most of the time, exactly the same as the first. It matches perfectly and could have easily been put in with the rest of the series instead of being an OVA but of course good shows like this seem to always have a OVA involved. Same voice actors so again, done really well and matches all the good things the first one had in store. We did see some ‘new’ people in the show but they didn’t stand out at all. They just fit nicely in like a jigsaw puzzle without any real complaints. I guess the one thing I didn’t like was all the super loud yelling at times but that’s my own preference. It fit the characters and situation.
Part 1 English Part 2 Bahasa Indonesia -------------------------------------- Well, well, well, what do we have here? It's Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu: Matsuri, or as I like to call it, 'Stupid Test Summoning Festival'. And let me tell you, this anime is like a clown car that just keeps getting more ridiculous. The concept is simple - students battle each other with avatars summoned from their test scores. It's like if Pokemon and standardized testing had a love child. The humor is absurd and over-the-top, and the characters are all as thick as two short planks. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but somehow, you can't lookaway. But let's be real here, this anime is about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face. The jokes are hit or miss, and the animation is nothing to write home about. Overall, I'd give a score of 6/10. It's a silly and nonsensical anime that's perfect for when you want to turn your brain off and just enjoy the stupidity. -------------------------------------- Well, well, well, apa yang kita punya di sini?
This is your typical OVA in-between seasons filler. Expect fan-service, no character development, and probably something with water be it beach, pool or hot spring. Anything to get the characters clothes off. The comedy is about as good as it was in the main show. I remember chuckling a few times here and there. There really isn't a whole lot to say about it. It's just a couple of shorts with the characters you've come to know and love from Baka and Test doing what you'd expect them to do. Nothing special really stood out so I'm feeling like just giving it my default average gradeof mediocrity. 7/10 for being better than watching paint dry, but not something I'd choose to watch again if given the option. Honestly it's getting harder and harder to write reviews for these one off episodes that exist as there own entries. I may have to rethink my "write a review for everything on my list" plan.
A sequel to the first season and a great OVA. Watching these two slightly longer episodes was fun and it felt like I was watching a short movie instead. The story of the OVA is about a school festival where class F tries to earn money to improve their classroom to impress Himeji's father to stop him from worrying about his daughter being in class F. Naturally not everything goes according to plan. The comedy, characters and animation are are all the same as or similar to the first season. Overall this is a great OVA sequel and definitely worth watching if you liked the firstseason. If you didn't like the first season then this is more of the same, or slightly better and probably won't change your mind on the show.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu: Matsuri (2011) My only regret with the series and all its OVA and Specials is that I waited this long to see it. The 2 OVA's are hilarious. They have plenty of raw humour in them and gives for an enjoyable time watching. The same premise as before with the hilarity based around the situations in this more unusual school setting. I am slightly saddened at the Miharu character's role getting less and less as time goes on. The art is great for the show and suits really well.Sound is as expected in that it ticks the right boxes. Characters I love the Minami interactions and Hazuki role you get. Shouko is the best and I love watching her character for how entertaining she is. The OVA's are really enjoyable and must be seen before moving onto Season 2.
I watched this after watching the second season (wrong order, I know, I know) so my perception of it was a little different from what it should've been, I guess. The story, first off, made no sense whatsoever. But then again, what part of this show does? Despite the obvious plotholes and randomness going on, the anime picks up the slack with humor, running gags, and fun subplots. As in the other seasons, the art in this is pretty decent. There's nothing bad to say about it at all. For sound, some parts could be better, but overall, it wasn't too bad. To be, some ofthe characters appeared to be a little out of character. I'm not sure why, really, they just seemed a little muted form their original selves, but since it's an OVA, I supposed it can be forgiven. If you decide to watch this, settle down for an hour of stupidity that's honestly pretty worth it. I would recommend this if you: liked the show at all, like running gags, like cross-dressing characters, like stupid villains and plots, think it's funny when anime characters continuously screw the hell up I would NOT recommend this if you: want an actual plot, any semblance of common sense Have a great day everyone!
