The overcrowding of Earth forced humanity to migrate to other planets and adapt accordingly. Spread across the solar system, the race continued to prosper—until Pluto was suddenly attacked by an unknown enemy. The complete annihilation of its population made clear the mysterious assailants' aim to destroy mankind. The invaders use their human victims' knowledge and energy to pilot giant mechanical bodies, and humanity has dubbed them Apocalypse out of fear. In the year 2199, Second Lieutenant Jonathan Tyberius clears his screening tests and becomes qualified to undergo the most elite military training course—allowing him to develop the ability to pilot humanity’s own manned robots. Working through the tough military training, he gradually grows closer to his new roommate, Leonard Schteinberg. Beneath the facade of a disciplined army base, corruption runs deep. With a tyrannical predator calling the shots, and long-forgotten memories returning to haunt them, Jonathan and Leonard begin to suspect that their greatest enemy might not actually be the Apocalypse. The Legend of the Blue Wolves is one of those shows I did not expect much from, but completely blew me when I finished. An early entry localized by the same company that localized Bakuman and Rurouni Kenshin, it has everything from an innovative story to an astounding soundtrack to a memorable cast you might remember for many years to come. Story: 10 The main attraction of the Legend of the Blue Wolves is the deep story, and I mean that both figuratively and literally. It explores crevices you did not know could be reached without the aid of man-made instruments. The OVA also provides a daringnumber of plot twists that keep you on the edge of your chair or bed. Judging from the cover and the early interactions, you expect one of those classic two-man-having-sex-in-the-spaceship, right? Wrong. The anime unexpectedly adds in a third man, creating another dimension of depth in the series and increasing the number of possible positions doable. Art: 8.8 The art might be outdated by modern standards, but remember that the series came out mid-90s. The minimalist designs actually work in the show's favor as it vividly captures the raw emotions of pleasure. The only complaint is the penises, since they are somewhat plain and boring-looking. Anime generally spend great amounts of work on their primary weapons, but the Legend of the Blue Wolves unfortunately fails to deliver. Sound: 9.7 Amazing. The groans and orgasms sound majestic and realistic and reflect the deep passion between Leo and Jon. Unlike other yaoi that might recycle the various sex sounds, the Legend of the Blue Wolves has at least several variations, especially for important events like first penetration and of course, climaxing. If you find the sound bad, you might want to consider investing in better speakers. Character: 10.2 Satoshi Hirayama might be better remembered for his later more popular works like Glass Mask, but much of his style can be traced back to the Legend of the Blue Wolves. Possibly the strongest part of the entire OVA is the characters. We start with two relatively-innocent relatively-German dudes chilling on a ship. Eventually, they realize their undying love to one another, but suddenly, tragedy strikes! Under the added pressure, the characters become more realistic and the show makes you wonder what you might do under similar situations. Enjoyment: 10 Just ask my pants. Overall: 10 (not an average) One of those works that comes once in a few years. Needless to say, don't watch it with your kids. They might miss out right now, but trust me, they will savor it more when they are ready.
I went into this with an open mind, and I tried not to get my expectations too high. After all, there are very, very few yaoi anime that I can consider a masterpiece(even considering the fact that this is recommended with Ai no Kusabi), and I didn't want to be unfair in my judgment. That being said, on to the rest of the review. This anime was by no means terrible; at least, in my opinion, but neither was it great. The story is unique enough, especially for the yaoi genre, but didn't quite deliver the way it should have. I think the thing that hurtsit the most is the fact that it's so short. If there had been more time devoted to Jonathan and Leonard's relationship, the ending would have had much more impact. I found it slightly predictable as well. Maybe it's just me, but I could see the end coming five minutes into this anime. Kind of disappointing. The music was decent, the art was decent, the characters were decent, as was the story, but that is all this is. It wasn't nearly as inspiring as the creator was going for, I'm sure. This is certainly not Ai no Kusabi or Winter Cicada, but nevertheless, I think this is worth watching anyway, if you're bored enough. I have seen much worse. Although, keep in mind that there are very strong themes and imagery in it, such as rape, etc., etc. If you're looking to watch something deep and inspiring, this doesn't quite cut it. I would suggest watching Ai no Kusabi and Fuyu no Semi(Winter Cicada) if that's what you're looking for.
Overview: It's Valentine's Day! That means a day of romance and god awful hentai reviews! This year I've decided to try be more inclusive. That means finding the most hardcore gay hentai I could find. Leave your Yaoi hands at home, because it's BARA time! Oh, and this hardcore gay hentai is also a Star Trek parody for some reason. This is Legend of the Blue Wolves...released by Media Blasters as "Hot Space Cowboys". Bara: The final frontier. Time to go where no Top 50 MAL critic has gone before! This is the genre of macho, manly sex that is created by gay men for gaymen. I've already reviewed a Yaoi title when I looked at "Boku no Sexual Harassment". This is something VERY different. There is no "Seme" and "Uke" here. These men have body fat, muscle, and hairy chests. This some REAL gay shit! Plot: It is the distant future and Mankind has united to explore the stars. Unfortunately, this means we encounter a hostile alien race that acts as a hive mind and wants to assimilate all organic life in the universe. Yep, this anime features the Borg from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It doesn't even try to hide this. Resistance is futile! Prepare to be assimilated! To counter this threat, Starfleet has 2 brilliant young commanders. The first is Jonathan Tiberius, who is named after James Tiberius Kirk from the original Star Trek. The second is just named Leonard after Leonard Nemoy. These 2 quickly fall in love, but trouble strikes when their evil superior officer decides to accuse Tiberius of treason. He makes this accusation solely so he can brutally rape Tiberius. The superior officer is also a walking tub of lard, so I can't imagine these sex scenes are very appealing even for the intended audience. Leonard fights off the lardass and comforts Tiberius with passionate man love. For striking a suprior officer, Leonard is sent to the front lines and is assimilated by the Borg. After some truly nightmarish imagery, Tiberius must put the assimilated Leonard out of his misery and kill him. However, the final result of the conflict between Mankind and the Borg is left unknown. The end. Art: This was made the shortlived Phoenix Entertainment. They only made a few other anime including Legend of the Overfiend, Ninja Resurrection, Sin the Movie, and also that mediocore girls baseball anime called Princess Nine. I know about Princess Nine because ADV dubbed it and I was kind of an ADV fanboy at one point. I guess the art was...ok. I certainly wasn't in the target demographic, but the animation wasn't terrible for a 1 episode hentai from the mid 1990s. Overall: So...that was a thing that happened. I can't say I really enjoyed this experience, but I found the transparant Star Trek spoof to be amusing. Phoenix Entertainment made some...odd choices for adaptation. Ninja Resurrection gave us that fight between historical 17th century samurai, Jubei Yagyu, and Crystal Dragon Jesus. To be fair, I guess it was fairly progressive of them to adapt a Bara back in 1996 Japan. Kudos to them. It's too bad they've been out of business for over 10 years. Who knows what other utterly bizarre titles they could have given us. Happy Valentines Day to everyone! If you're single this year...like I am...remember that there is always next year!
Just finshed the first episode and I see why its ratings are absolutely outstanding. Everything about this show was a masterpeice, from incredible lines like "Sir, no, sir" to the ugly bastard, everyones favorite character. I cant even begin to describe how much I loved this show, however I am going it. Story: 10 Story. Flawless. The flaws of it were there were no flaws. I cant stand an anime that is too good. Its trying to act like its better than me and I'm not okay with that. Also, needed more porn. Thank you. Art: 10 The art was absolutelyincredible. Its best when watched on pornhub at 480p. Sound: 10 I moan very good. Character: 9 Ugly guy was real thug ass nigg. I would let him take me out to a bar and then fuck him in his new found dick hole and void. Also, I liked how they made the characters fuck in voids. It really put an emphasis on the sex. Enjoyment: 10 10/10 wouldn't watch again. Cant wait for the sequel.
I start my yaoi anime and review marathon with this and boy, did it start out better than I hoped. story 9 It was deeper than I thought it would be. Even with only one episode, it covered a surprising amount of details and backstories. Though, the down side, it was never continued so it didnt give you too much other information. Though I did feel excited when a preview of the suposed next episode Art 7 I had a fair share of '90s anime/manga art style and I got ind of used to it. Still have a slight problem with the old art styles Sound 9 The sound hadplenty of 'movement' in it. You could close your eyes and understand what's happening The OP and ED music was calming and gave you a feel of the depth of the story (especially the ED) Character 10 I must give the creators credit for being able to stuff all this backstory and plot within the 40 mins AND not being able to make a second episode/OVA to accompany the plot and backstory. Honestly, it can survive with only one episode Enjoyment 8 w-what?! A THREESOME?!! I've never seen a threesome in an anime before! (Im not going to bother watching Pico x chico x coco) What! I can see their penises?!! Look at the details! Okay I'm not that creepy but I did enjoy this anime though, I'm not crazy about the rape scenes. Overall 9 It's a shame that there arnt many good yaoi anime out there and this is one of the few rare ones that I have heard of. Time for me to get this marathon started!
