Every cosplay club in Japan shares the same dream: to take first place at the Cosplay World Series. East Oizumi Academy's club is no different; led by Gorou Yorozuyo, the club's members spend every moment training and preparing for competitions. Still, even with ace cosplayer Chako Hasegawa and the shape-shifting powers of the fairy Delmo on their side, the club must work hard if they want to become the best in Japan. This was...simply terrible. It fails even as a parody. I truly wish I had never seen it. The music was awful, the characters were flat, the animation was mediocre. Was this supposed to be a parody? If so, it wasn't even SLIGHTLY funny. Save your brain cells and don't watch this.
Cosplay complex is a three episode OVA about... well, cosplay... Story: Cosplay Complex, in a nutshell, is about a cosplay club in a high school. (Can't really say anymore because one little thing can spoil 1/3 of the episode ==) The story kinda highlights a few main events in a sport anime and doesn't really follow have a logical plot but since this anime is an individual OVA, it does not have to make sense. Art: What can I say here? This is made in 2002, so you just have to lower your expectation a bit. For that time period, the animation is not too shabby. Whileit's not your kyo-ani style, it should satisfy your basic visual stanards. Sound: There is not much good background music in Cosplay complex. The OP or the ED are nothing speical too. But if you happen to like Mahou Shoujo OPs (gauken alice, cardcaptor), I would say it's not bad. Characters: This is pretty much the charm of this anime. Cosplay Complex has a good set of characters. Made simply for comedy, these characters are pretty stereotypical of a group of high school girls, an "eccentric" guy and various randies for comical relief. While the characters has no background whatsoever, one should just forget about all the troubles you have with drama-based anime and just laugh away. Also, due to the fact that this has cosplay, get your anime checklist ready to spot the parody (got quite a few every episode) Enjoyment: All I have to say is "don't think too much about this anime, you're not going to be pondering about character development or plot twists and stuff. Just watch it with an empty mind and you'll probably enjoy this." This is probably for more hard-core anime watchers. I don't think normal people and new anime-watchers can really grasp it's humor
I´m not one of those otaku fan boys that go up in cosplay and stuff like that, but i LOVED cosplay complex. it had a decent story, a great set of characters and was, for me, hilariously funny. it was extremely well drawn and the scenes where Chako is dressed up in samurai are was incredibly and beautifully drawn. But it could be longer, the story ends rather sharply, with a cliffhanger that doesn´t really make sense. But it is important to watch Cosplay complex as a story rather than a parody as it fails miserably at being one. It is an great anime, butit leaves you wanting more. Reccomended. Have a nice Chako-day.
Cosplay Complex is an OVA series that was set up to have a sequel, but never got one. And that's okay, there wasn't very much you could do with it anyway, it already seemed like they were running out of ideas during just these 3 episodes, because all of them are about a contest, that's it. The story of this series is about a high school Cosplay club, and they add some new members every now and then. There are some rivalries, a love interest, ecchi, and lots of cosplaying. The art is pretty good, it's definitely not the standard, especially for an OVA, I could bewrong, but I don't even think it was the standard in 2002, unless anime has really come a long way in just 9 years, it's amazing. It's not annoying and it definitely will not bore you. The music is almost non existent, and the ending theme reminds me of something Nobuo Uematsu would have composed for a happy go lucky show, but that's not a bad thing. The seiyuu all do a great job! I especially like whenever Delmo speaks, but that's probably because of my love for Gintama. Character is very basic here, nothing special, but it's there. I enjoyed this more than I expected, but for it to be something by Tatsuyuki Nagai, he has definitely come a long way in creating great shows. Sometime you can't judge a book by it's cover, or its first publish sometimes. Only time will tell when it comes to greatness. It is overall a show that can be fun to watch if you just want some light hearted fun, and like cosplay. Be aware that this show was set up for a sequel, so things at the end do not make sense, and they never will (Unless someone really wants to do another sequel.)
I found this anime by accident today. There are only 3 episodes of this but they are a well packaged little bundle. I found this anime to be funny, light and easy to watch. There are parts of it that are genuinely funny and will make you laugh out loud. If you are looking for something to kill about 2 hours, this is a nice way to do it.
How about to dive into a world of cosplay, pantsu shots & comedy? Even a little bit of love? This is an anime of cosplay and what goes into it- yet, there's a little more to it than that. That is to say - this anime is not for everyone, after all - it a parody of the whole otaku sphere. The more you spent in the otaku world and know all of its phantoms, the funnier this will be. Otherwise the parody itself would fall flat since a lot of the comedy plots build on knowing the source material. The fairy in the showreminds me so much of Puck from Berserk, and well, a girl who feel craze from the only little girl in the show...etc. The strong suit would be the characters as they are rather well written, and on top of that, I just adore the animation style of this era. There were some scenes which i found to be really well animated and others that just are fillers, but the important part itself is the fluidity and the pacing, which I think was very good. It feelt as I took part in the club and enjoyed my time with them and their joy of cosplay. This was surprisingly interesting and gave me a good laughs, even if I don't know of a lot of the early anime of 2004 which is used as cosplay reference. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it nor am I that interesting in cosplay. It's an short anime and ends abruptly, makes me wonder if this was supposed to be a 12 ep show? It saddens me a bit, since i would love to watch all of it. 8/10
Well what can I say about this, there are only three episodes and that's it nothing else & I thought was gonna be a whole series or something I thought the anime was pretty okay it had it's moments it was pretty good. So what the fuck happened there is literally no information on this at all which is a shame the story is okay but It fit well with what was going on. So if anyone has any updated information about it please let me know & If you haven't watched it yet but you like comedy's give this a chance it's not the best butit's good TV & if you want to buy the dvd It's at-least £3.00.
