In the not so distant future, to cope with the traffic jams and verticalization due to the increased population, the city of Tokyo was reconstructed under the theme of city sharing in which people share the urbane space by transforming the roads and city structure by time of the day. A woman named Nico is walking in the city. She is having her long-awaited day off; however, she does not know what to do and who to hang out with. She hopes an exciting thing suddenly happens. Then, a truck passes right before her eyes. The loud music and flashy decoration of the vehicle reminds Nico the car it that everyone's talking about on the internet. As soon as Nico sees it, she runs after it, then runs into Gatsu and Makito. Nico gets in their latest A-Class and they chase after the truck driving through the city that is changing its form rapidly. (Source: AniDB)

Next A-Class is a fun and short anime. Kids driving a super A-class Mercedes-Benz goes on a high-speed chase to catch the legendary noodle stand. Best part got to be when the kids can shift seats in the car without moving.
Imagine my surprise when I saw an article on a short ONA made by Productions IG when I was browsing through a car blog. Seeing that a German company which used to only specialize in executive/expensive automobiles that used to only target customers in their 40s with a hefty salary, this commercial comes off to me as quite revolutionary as a car enthusiast/business student and awesome as an anime fan. This was not the first time I've seen that anime has been used as a medium as advertising. This however was the first for a non-Japanese firm, and in terms of quality, the small details in a6 minutes short really shows. I'd give credit to those who convinced the uptight Germans in Stuttgart to put funding into this. Story: 5 Given it's 6 minutes running length, there isn't any particular story to speak of. It does play parody to the most famous Japanese car-related anime, so I will give credit for that. Art: 9 The futuristic look of the 'moving city' with the lighting, the details of the characters are surprisingly good for such a short clip. The integrating of the A class (possibility A45 AMG?) with the 'Blue Wonder' noodle truck is done greatly. Water effects and lighting are used in great effect. Sound: 7 The music really fits the mood well, if albeit constrained due to the length of the clip. The sfx for engine noise doesn't sound relative to the M159's throaty roar that is found in the hood of a IRL AMG V8... Characters: 6 Nothing much to say here, but each are distinctive and fits well to the 'futuristic japan' theme that is going to play here. Enjoyment: 10 What part of seeing a prototype/futuristic A45 AMG racing against a 1954 Blue Wonder truck fitted with a 6.2 M159 V8 lifted from a gull-wing SLS AMG in a moving city, drifting in narrow Japanese streets and getting air-time in the process just to get Ramen not sound cool? Overall: 7 At the end of the day, this is still a manufacturer promotion campaign. For the already downward trend of Japan's auto industry, the indication to the manufacturers of this clip is showing that MB is now targeting the next generation of youngsters to drive European cars. Better start making more desirable cars, Honda and Toyota. To the part anime-fan and part car-enthusiast like me out there who gets chills down his spine hearing a AMG V8 starting up, this is a really delicious, if a bit short, treat from MB of Japan.
Mercedes-Benz is started to making anime hahahah.. Hmm driving through the city in Mercedes-Benz Car that's all for the story. Companies started using anime for selling cars Yeah!!! Car model (Mercedes-Benz A-Class).
Well... if the story would've had a little bit more direction Mercedes could've made Next A-Class look less like a capitalist marketing scheme. Overall, I thought that Next A-Class had good animation and decent sound combined with a promising set up. Having the entire short take place during a high-speed car chase was fun and it had potential to present a cool yet interesting story. I wasn't expecting a transcendent message or anything, but even with 6 minutes there could've been some kind of takeaway... instead Mercedes just shows us a futuristic car that doesn't even exist (at least not with those specs). It was clearthat the story was built around the promotion of the company rather than trying to weave the promotion of the company into an already compelling short story. Ultimately, this short video fails to transmit any kind of message or narrative beyond a simple car chase, which is still underwhelming even within the parameters of its 6-minute time frame. I just think that there are so many successful animated shorts (eg: Paulette's Chair, Tsumiki no Ie) that are able to convey powerful messages or recreate idyllic moments. Due to this, Next A-Class falls kind of flat in comparison. It gave us a cool car chase at least so I guess it has that going for it. Story: 3 Again, it's a car chase with no real narrative. I try not to judge shorts too harshly when it comes to this category because I attempt to take the time frame into account, but even with 6 minutes the story could've had more direction. It would've been nice if some of the 'folklore' surrounding the Noddle cart was focused on to create higher stakes for the car chase. Anything to make the story feel somewhat captivating. Art: 8 The animation was definitely good, everything was animately quite well for the most part. There were some exciting scenes in there. Sound: 7 I really liked the sound! I thought the soundtrack was good and matched the atmosphere of the car chase appropriately. I thought there were times when the sound effects were slightly too cacophonous and I couldn't really make out what was going on but I guess that's expected for a high-speed car chase. Character: 4 The character designs were decent and they definitely had distinct 'personalities'; however that's about it. They could've dropped more clues about the characters in the dialogue or animation. Successful shorts can present (seemingly) fleshed out characters in a short time frame. Next A-Class missed the mark with that too but at least each character had individuality. Enjoyment: 4 I can't say I didn't have a bit of fun while watching the car chase, but when the short ended I didn't feel like there was much meaning to what I just watched. It was more like Mercedes just tried to subliminally ingrain their logo in my head lol.
Have you ever heard of the legendary Ramen Noodle truck? The only way to get a taste is to catch up with it. Enter Next A-Class, a surprisingly flashy and fun little time considering it is literally a six-minute Japanese car advertisement made in 2012. Despite how short it is, however, the adrenaline rush you'll get watching this anime short is nothing short of thrilling. By and large the best part of this short is the animation. You'd think it wouldn't have much effort put into it, but by lord Frith himself, is this a damn good looking Original Net Animation. The amount of detail andeffort crammed into the unbelievably short runtime is simply astounding, and it's more than likely the first thing you'll notice when watching it. It's realistic, colorful, at times even breathtaking, and ends up memorable as a result. The story, while as orthodox and basic as one can possibly be, serves the purpose of the narrative well enough, so I can hardly complain. This isn't Shinsekai Yori, nor is it meant to be. The sound design is also quite competent, with blood-pumping rock playing in the background and sound effects that fit the mood more than anything, with wheels screeching and the characters temporarily losing their minds as they attempt to catch up with this legendary Ramen Noodle truck. Speaking of the characters, of which there are mainly three of, while their development is obviously near nonexistent, they have a rather distinct amount of qualities going for them. For one, their designs are incredibly unique and memorable, most likely as a result of the fantastic art direction. Their dialogue is also just punchy enough to make them feel like actual human beings, with some fundamental personality built earlier on so you care about the adventure they experience. It can be difficult to relate to them, as I certainly don't think any normal person would risk their lives over some ramen stand no matter how damn good those noodles are. But since it's Next A-Class, it can do whatever it wants because being realistic is the least of its worries, animation aside. Overall, this was an entertaining time, no alcohol required. For how blisteringly fast it goes by, Next A-Class has phenomenal rewatch value and some seriously unparalleled artwork. If you have six minutes of your life to spare and feel like watching a Mercedes-Benz high-tailing the legendary Ramen Noodle truck, then I'd suggest you go for broke and give it a shot. It can be easily found on the official Mercedes-Benz Japan YouTube channel with subtitles, so I'd suggest one to start there. "Life is like a bowl of ramen. The noodles are the events that come and go while the broth is your friends. Don't slurp too quickly!" -Board of Wisdom

Rate a 5 English Subtitled Story A bit confusing. At first glance there is a mention of an event that took form. Whether it was true or not is debatable. Then shortly after a chase for a legend begins. The problem was that slight mention in the beginning was not relevant at all to the story. Since the beginning event was so brief the viewers are forced to rewind and play back to see if that was the subject from earlier. While that is good way to cause revisits in views in truth it is aggravating plot wise. Plot, is suppose to lead to a gradual lead into prevent confusion. As for the ending another random toss-up is thrown at the viewer. You get so fixated on what it is going on to suddenly back pedal to another? Art Did a fine job of covering the visuals. However, the transition from the female main character's starting location to leading location was a rather big leap. Yes, i know when it comes to walking or running or whatever you are bound to regain the same body posture you had earlier. So, in theory keeping the posture and changing the background is a nice time/cost efficient shortcut. I agree and disagree. I disagree for it can and did throw confusion to was a scene missed? What was with the sudden change? Were the powers used? Was it a dream? Too many question asked at that moment when a few more slides could have been added to prevent it. You might think why care over one moment in a show? good question. If something is wrong with a bill like an unexplained charge wouldn't you like to know why before paying for it? Characters As if the cover shot doesn't make it clear this was strictly business made. You have your financier and you have your product. Sure you get to advertise or demonstrate the features provided but it comes at a cost. Without much plot this is not much different than a commercial. And i think i speak for all commercials are annoying. Overall: A clever marketing tool but lacked in plot. P.s. I don't think they really cared about the detail that was applied as long as the car looked nice. Some examples... 1. why start off with an improper 'bang'? 2. Nice zoom in on the yellow shirt. It bares a strong similarity to something that is forbidden depending where you are. Is that the secret to their 'success' in some manner? It certainly would explain the lack of follow through.
I find it amazing how well this animation managed to thrill me in such little time! The background music and instant car-chase were perfectly combined and although it's a shamel there's little to no information gained about the three main characters (other than the girl's having a really bad day and they all love to chase urban legends), the created world around them is introduced amazingly well in the slightest of sci-fi themed details of the modern art-style animation. It was a delight to see the changing of the driver in the car and how the districts change after a period of time, making me cravefor more information of what year it is and what technology humanity has developed. It manages to pique your interest really fast, kudos! I love it, giving it a 8 out of 10! Wishing there to be more!
This short was made in 2012, and for it being a short about cars it's okay, far from the best thing I have ever watched but calling it bad is a crime, and nobody wants that. Story [4]: Yeah this story isn't that good, not the worst have I seen, and it kept my entertained throughout the whole short, but looking back, it's not good at all. This show we see our protagonist [Kuniko Kai] with two other people [Koku Ganaha and Makito Kasuya] that want to have the best time of there lives! By chasing a truck? It just seems, weird. That doesn't alone wantme to watch the show at all, it makes me roll around with how dumb it is. Art [9]: The animation and art is what makes this short for me, smooth animation and stylish art is how it's done with these types of shows. It also fast paced, fast paced done right until Teekyuu's animation and style. It not only perfects it, it enchants it. Sound [5]: I don't have much to say, the voice acting average, nothing amazing but nothing that will make your ears bleed, the perfect example of a painfully average voice acting. Character [5]: These characters do have some sort of personality, but they don't at the same time, it's really hard to explain Enjoyment & Overall: Despite my complaints, I did enjoy this short, sure it didn't have anything good to offer besides animation, but it's enjoyable, if you want to watch something to keep you entertained or for filler? Watch this!
