It's the night before the fair celebrating the Kingdom of Guardia's one thousand year anniversary. When the humans have gone to sleep for the night, excited about the next day's celebration, the monsters come out to play.
Nuu and Mamo are two little monsters itching to have their own adventure in time and space, and their adventure group Nuumamonjaa is recruiting new members. Since neither is particularly strong in the brains department, their adventure turns into a disaster as they get into one mishap after another.
A fast drinking competition, a close encounter with a robotic cat, and a high-speed car chase—this might be more adventure than the tiny duo bargained for!

First I have to say: Before watching this anime you should have played the game. Without knowing the game you don't get most of the jokes in the anime. Story: Well ... this anime is like a special for the game. There isn't actually that much of a story that is told. The whole anime seems to be a little homage to all those monsters and strange creatures in the game which isn't really a bad thing. Art: The Chrono Trigger anime is now 12 years old so the quality of the animation is not really up to date. Nonetheless I rated the Art rather high becauseof the great character design of Akira Toriyama which I really like.
Sound: No real Opening song is the first sing I have to say. The BGM sounds a lot like the original BGM of the game. It is ok. but old fashioned midi sound.
Character: Even though the main characters don't really appear in the anime I rated the characters of this anime rather high because of the high recognition value of the characters if you have played the game. The characters are those lovely drawn monsters/creatures in the game and you can see the love of the designers for the game.
Enjoyment: I really really enjoyed this anime because of the earlier mentioned high recognition value of the characters and the setting itself. It is a fine hommage to the anime and I really laughed out loud because of Johnny and the berserking Gonzales robot. Also as I mentioned earlier you can see the love of the game in this anime for example in the drinking contest or the race which were minigames at the beginning of the game.
Overall: I highly recommend this anime if you liked the game. If you didn't play it you shouldn't watch the anime because you don't get the jokes. If you can lay your fingers on this rather old anime you should watch it. If not.... well it was a good anime but not the greatest anime ever produced.

This is actually one of my favorite comedy-based OVA's. There are parts within, such as Gato screaming the same thing over and over, or Johnny's inside humor. If you're looking for the original characters of the SNES video game, you won't find them until the very end. Actually, you will only see the back of their heads. This OVA's characters are completely two different creatures that are traveling through time trying to get anyone to join their club. It may seem a little boring at first, but the second half will really make you laugh with Gato's yelling and running wild. Try it out, I knowif you at least enjoyed the game, you will understand most of what happens throughout the OVA.

The only good thing of this anime is the music. Is the same music of the game, that's why it has a ten of mine. The rest is like "Ha...haha...haha...NOPE" Gonzalez is the best character and the rest are so derp as Carls @BSTCloud. If you wanna insult him, I will appreciate it. That's all I've gotta say, OST 10, the rest meh.

I use the following system to calculate the final score: In each of the five categories (Story, Art, Sound, Character(s), Enjoyment), a score can get 2, 4, 8 or 10. 2 for something I find truly bad, 4 for something that just isn't good enough, 8 for fairly good and 10 for outstanding. The sum of the score is divided by 5 and the score is rounded to the nearest integer (More than or equal to .5 rounds it up, less than .5 rounds it down). STORY (4): Very, very simple. Some monsters from Chrono Trigger do some stuff. 'twas rather boring. ART (8): The designs are, as anyone who hasplayed Chrono Trigger would know, great. The animation was so-so and monsters seemed to differ somewhat from what they should look like.
SOUND (4):
I really don't think the voice actors did a great job. Well, except Gonzales.
CHARACTERS (10):
Outstanding, due to Gonzales being present. AAH, GONZALES! I'M STRONG!
ENJOYMENT (10):
Finally, hearing Gonzales song being sung. Several times. This is the one thing that truly makes this worth watching.
FINAL SCORE:
36 * 0.2 = 7.2, rounded down to 7.
RECOMMENDATION:
If you've played the game, why not? It's short anyway. No point if you haven't played it, though.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best 16-bit games out there. Hell, it's one of the best games out there. And there's an anime based off of it. A sixteen minute, one episode one from 1996. Let's look at it. Story: The tale is set on the eve of the Millennium Fair. At this point, a bunch of familiar monsters come out to play and celebrate since many of them will invariably be killed once the game starts and everyone needs EXP. Especially best character Lucca. Our main monsters are Nuu and Mamo. The pair of them are trying to recruit other monsters to jointheir group. This, naturally, leads to shenanigans.
As a comedy, this isn't bad. It has some funny moments and some sequences that work pretty well. It plays off of the two bumbling henchmen trope with Nuu being the fat dumb one and Mamo being the smaller, more fast talking but also stupid one. That being said, it's one of those comedies that's always somewhat amusing but never uproariously funny. It's entertaining enough but never at the level where you're giving a real hearty laugh. And for those people thinking "aren't you being too harsh considering it's only fifteen minutes?" I would point out that most Galaxy Angel episodes are funnier and they're also fifteen minutes.
Characters:
In addition to Nuu & Mamo, there are some familiar Chrono Trigger monsters. Johnny & Gato both make appearances as side characters. None of them are very complex but they do work decently enough for the comedic elements. Though I do think some people are apt to be disappointed by the lack of the major characters from the game.
Art:
The artwork looks pretty good. We see a lot of monsters from Chrono Trigger with their game designs intact. The animation is decent and there are some pretty good visual gags. Though it's definitely dated in terms of its quality.
Sound:
This is one of those anime where the comedy is a bit exaggerated and there's a lot of over the top delivery. The actors do fine, all things considered but you may find that aesthetic a bit grating. If I'm being honest, the only reason it doesn't really bother me here is because it's short. If this were multiple episodes or even an hour long, I'd definitely be annoyed by the exaggeration. The music is taken right from the game soundtrack. And the game has an excellent soundtrack.
Ho-yay:
There isn't any.
Areas of Improvement:
1. The humour could stand to be more subtle and clever. Yeah, there's a place for the over the top elements but comedy that relies solely on that doesn't tend to work for repeated viewings or hold up super well.
2. Speaking of more subtlety, the performances could be toned down.
3. The short could have used a little extra time and done more to establish the setting. Yeah, the fair is well known to fans of the game and a lot of the activities in the short will be familiar to those of us who have played the game. But something like this should also encourage people who haven't played the game to do so and the beginning segment where they're giving the setting is a bit rushed for that.
Final Thoughts:
Jikuu Bouken Nuumamonjaa is a decent little OVA. If you're a fan of Chrono Trigger, you'll see a lot of nods to the game, recognise the music and monster designs and get some amusement from the misadventures of Nuu & Mamo. If you aren't a fan of the game you may still find it entertaining for the take on the two comedic henchmen. I'm giving it a 6/10.

This is a fun little short meant for those who've played through Chrono Trigger. It stars some minor characters in a spoof/parody comedy. It was really wacky and quite fun! Don't go into this expecting an epic OVA covering major events from the main game. For those wanting that, should just play the PS1 or DS version of Chrono Trigger, as it contains some beautiful anime cutscenes depicting some of the major plot points in the game. But chances are you already have, if you are reading this. I personally enjoyed this short OVA a lot! It brings more life to these characters in which onlyso much could be accomplished of a 32-bit game.
Nu and Mamo (also known as Kilwala in the US version of the game) were the main characters of this OVA and they were fun while they lasted. Mamo does have a rather annoying voice, but it suits his character and he doesn't overstay his welcome due to the show being so short. The ones that really put a smile on my face were Gonzales (a.k.a Gato in the US) and Johnny! If they ever ended up making more episodes, they'd have to focus on more of the other great characters of Chrono Trigger. But, sadly this was only one episode.
They reference a few other minor things in this short like in the credits when Nu and Mamo were posing in some of the famous locales of the game. So don't just stop watching when the credits roll!
It is really a shame that this wasn't longer or consisted of more episodes featuring more of the Chrono cast. Because this video game is packed with lore, which would be great inside joke material for the fans. This had strong potential to be a well running comedy series based off of a game. But, maybe some fans are happy this was all there was. The budget was probably fairly low due to the mostly simplified character design and somewhat choppy animation. This combined with the loud blunt humor could be taken as a bastardization of the original masterpiece that is Chrono Trigger. When comparing this to other comedy spoofs, this certainly isn't any Carnival Phantasm (not even close), but it does give me a similar vibe. Especially with the racing scene.
Like the Fire Emblem OVA, this had potential to be amazing. But, upon doing some research this wasn't meant to be a big thing. It was just something made by Production I.G for a V-Jump (a Japanese manga and video game magazine) festival. The good time was cut very short, but sweet enough to be worth it to the fans!
TLDR; So definitely give this a watch if:
•You've beaten Chrono Trigger at least once (if you haven't, then the characters and references won't mean anything to you).
•You like cheesy comedy and/or parody anime.

So this anime is based around one of my personal all time favorite jrpgs in existence chrono trigger and the story is about traveling in time in various periods to stop lavos. Now the art by Akira Toryiama as always is incredible and the animation it hasn't aged exactly well and i personally prefer toei's version since even then it still holds up well to this day. It also has voice acting too and the voice acting was servicable enough. The music as always its incredible as ever and glad to see golsvalves theme is still there. Yeah since its an ova ofc the pacing isgoing to be rushed here and not everything is going to be covered which is a shame and yeah i think it would have been better if it was a full 26 series by TOEI imo and yeah do play the original game as well too.
