A brilliant, slightly crazy, and extremely eccentric scientist toils away his days in his lab, creating robots to carry out different tasks. A robot to grant three wishes, a robot to help you write your diary, a robot that intentionally misbehaves in order to keep its master from becoming bored… the robots are each built for a very specific purpose, and can’t really do much of anything else. Luckily for mankind, however, these robots are much more useful than they appear to be at first glance… most of the time, anyway. (Source: ANN)

Kimagure Robot, at around 2 minutes per episode; is a fun little series that doesn't take much time at all to watch and enjoy. Each episode displays one of the doctor's strange creations and its relations with the poor, unsuspecting people who have to deal with it. You won't find any deep plot or multi-layered realistic characters here, but that's what works for this and I wouldn't want it any other way. Kimagure Robot could be best compared to a Saturday morning cartoon with its whimsical characters and setting and overall light-hearted, relaxed atmosphere. The character designs and art have a great bold and cartoonish style thatis perfect for the series and also just very appealing to look at. The art direction seems to change slightly from episode to episode and it typically matches the theme or mood of the episode without the style changing too much. Each of the stories have a good bit of humour and I laughed quite a few times watching it. It's cute, it's fun and it's worth watching. Realistically, I have nothing to complain about with this series other than I wish there was more of it. The only reason I didn't give it above an 8 is because it just doesn't accomplish much on any other level than enjoyment and didn't evoke any emotional response from me. Overall, Kimagure Robot is just an enjoyable little series and a great way to spend 20 minutes.
At 2 (yes, two) minutes an episode, this was a fairly easy watch, as you can watch the whole series in less than half and hour. I picked this up for just that reason. And for an entire series that you can watch in that time frame, I got what I expected. This isn't Studio 4's greatest achievement, but it was still okay. Story: 4/10 The story goes all over the place, never continuing from where it left off. That is a good thing, especially in a series like this. But most of the episodes were rather bland and uninteresting, but I suppose that's what you canexpect from an episode time frame such as this. The whole crazy doctor building various kinds of robots does sound rather appealing, but as far as everything that happens to the doctor and his wacky humanoid machines, nothing really happens. Art: 5/10 The art style, at first, looks like a crappy flash animation. That put me off at first, but then in later episodes the series proceeds to become...a bit better than it was at first. It's not Studio 4's usual break from traditional art styles, but it's good in it's own way. It's almost got a bold color style not unlike Dead Leaves or Gurren Lagan. Almost. Sound: 4/10 There's nothing really remarkable about the sound. The music isn't too unusual, and the sound effects are rather average. But I did like the voice acting and the effects that were used for the voice of the robots and UFOs. Character: 6/10 The variety of characters that are seen throughout the series is refreshing. From the fisherman to the vacationing aliens to all the strange and seemingly useless robots the doctor builds as well as the doctor himself make for a good time. The doctor programs each robot to do only one specific job. There is a robot that will never let you get bored (and will try to kill you if you start), a robot that very accurately grants wishes, a robot who's soul purpose is to blow up into fireworks... the list goes on and on. This, in my opinion, is the only reason to watch this show. Enjoyment: 5/10 The series did have it's high times, and it managed to make me laugh more than once. Despite all the criticism I've mentioned, I thought this show was okay. I'd watch it again...if I had nothing else to do. And with a time of 2 minutes an episode, I'd definitely watch it again...if I didn't have anything else to do.
