Aoi Tokura is a server at Rainy Color, a cozy and diverse cafe known for its hot cocoa. Ever felt so unmotivated in life that you were too tired to watch even one episode of an anime? Well if that's the case Ame-iro Cocoa may help cheer you up a bit. You may well even end up having some motivation to make yourself enjoy a cup of coffee. Rainy Color is where our cute young boy Aoi works at as a coffee maker. There are three other boys who hang out at the cafe talking and gossipping about various things and that's pretty much the story. Aoi, our young coffee server is a shy boy who is often mistaken as a girl. Shion ishis senior who works with him. Ryota is a happy-go-lucky guy who hangs around the cafe a lot and to his opposite is Kei the cold-hearted guy who for some unknown reason, seems to dislike Aoi. There's the owner of the Rainy Color as well but even for such a short amount of time the show covers he's only seen twice the entire series, in the second episode and the last. However, he appears in the opening song and is seen laughing hysterically for some unknown reason. The characters are neatly drawn in this anime, the backgrounds are kept simple and plain. There's a twenty five second long OP for this two-minute anime and if you see it that way the quarter of the show is covered by the song itself. But the song is pretty nice infact, and there's very little music in the show. Even if it's a very short anime the voice actors used in it are pro's. Miyano Mamoru, well known for several of his voice actings, plays the role of Ryota in Ame-iro Cocoa. Normal souls would find it pretty hard to comprehend this and I can feel them as there's pretty much nothing to be gained from watching this. This makes Ame-iro Cocoa share a similarity with another one of the short anime, Pupa. However, the two are vastly apart from being similar as Pupa tends to make itself known to its viewers for a long time using some other kinds of means which I wouldn't want to mention. As short anime's come and go Ame-iro Cocoa will certainly not be remembered, but yet this is one anime that can not be loved nor be hated.
I'll be completely frank, this anime is utterly boring. I watched the whole thing again after it was complete, thinking, that maybe I'll find something interesting about it. But nothing. I was almost glad it was only 2 minutes an episode, that's how bad it was. There is pretty much no story here. The art is simple and animation is basic, nothing interesting about it at all. The characters are completely plain. There was no character development, basically everything stayed the same the whole show. The sound was close to alright, it was calming and set the mood right but that doesn't make up for the anime at all.Overall it's a 3. I didn't enjoy it at all and I'm pretty sure many wouldn't either. It has nothing special about it and nothing interesting happened at all. Just a waste of 24 minutes. If you want to watch short anime I would recommend Orenchi no Furo Jijou or even Ai Mai Mi!, at least THOSE are interesting shows. (Guys, even Pupa was more fun to watch than this. FREAKING PUPA!)
Ame-iro Cocoa, is a VERY SHORT show about our 4 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ characters, that work in a cafe. That's really all it is. Story: 5/10 The story centers mainly around 2 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ working in a cafe, brewing coffee and occasionally chatting with the only regular costumer (who is also a ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆) The story is nonexistent. That's not a bad thing for this show *cough* Vampire Holmes *cough* since it doesn't feel like it want to be funny, have a deeper meaning or tuck on your heartstrings. It's just about 2 ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ and their ever absent manager, working together in a cafe. It's good and quite relaxing honestly.Art: 7/10 The art is your typical shoujo-esque style, but with a hint of pointy yaoi chin. The backgrounds are really well done. You easily get the cafe feeling, with the coffee beans on the shelves and the fine cups that they're using. It helps create a relaxing atmosphere. Sound: 7/10 The opening is quite catchy, but not enough to get inside your head. The voice acting is good. They sound convincing and it doesn't feel forced. The sound effects, like cups clanging against the table when they're placed, or the small footsteps on the wooden flooring are very well made. It feels completely natural. The only thing i really can complain about with the sound, is that the opening song is playing in the background throughout each episode, like some sort of elevator music. Characters: 5/10 The characters are not that well fleshed out. Not that they need to, don't get me wrong. I can immediately tell you that you shouldn't expect any character development. The characters do a fair "job" at their posts. The silent, but ever smiling guy behind the bar, brewing the best coffee you'll ever taste. The greenhorn waiter, who does his best at chatting with the mysterious ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ regular (who apparently loves dogs). The guy who occasionally shows up at work and makes others wonder what he actually does, and lastly, the very mature and of course ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆ manager, who SOMEHOW is managing to keep the place up and running with only 1 returning costumer. Enjoyment: 5/10 It's well made for a 2 minute show. It creates a relaxing atmosphere and easily sucks you in. The voice acting is believable and the sound effects are keeping the immersion of being in a cafe from breaking. But it all falls short and gives off a "meh" feeling in the end. Overall: 5/10 TL;DR If you want a 2 minute show that manages to create a cafe environment with a relaxing atmosphere, lighthearted jokes, no character development and ☆*・゜゚・*Bishounen*・゜゚・*☆, then this anime is definitely for you.
Anyway, my grade is pretty high. It's a short one but I guess I cannot compare short ones with long ones. I really liked the idea and I can see a potential in this one. I would actually like for them to make a longer version. I liked the art very much and the boys are just to nice and they are all different types of people. I come from a country where coffee shops are very popular and people like to go out and have a cup of coffee with friends. I think that's why I partially liked this and I liked how the guyswere bonding randomly while all being completely different type of people. It was short and sweet. All I can say about it. And also...I don't know if I'm the only one but it reminded me of Free! so much.
(Note this is my first review on MAL so if its unprofessional I apologize) Shorts are a hit or miss type of thing so the best route is the comedy route since its short and the show wouldn't overstay its welcome. But despite this thing being short there is little merit to it. Lets get the positives out of the way. The art looks nice though choppy (more on that in animation),VA is good, and its less than an hour to get through an entire season which thank goodness it is because any longer and it would have been dropped. Story~1/10 Its boring even for a SOL.Now SOL relies on characters at times but they still tell a story of sorts unless your Lucky Star and you relies heavily on comedy. This doesn't, there is no story at all thus I cant get attached to any character. The comedy is terrible and unbearable. In other words this story isnt a story. Or events for that matter ,its just unfunny moments happening that I dont give a care for. Characters 1/10 Speaking of which these characters. Now Im not against archetypes or cliches in characters but one need to make something unquie about them. There is nothing interesting or hood about them. Ive seen better characters in shows better then this. Hell Yumeira of all things has better characters, the hell! I dont remember a single name out of this cast. At all, there are the most boring characters ever and there all unmentionable or memorable. Animation and art ~4/10 The art looks decent which is good if your drawing bishonen or bishoujo characters. But what it suffers from is the animation. Its lack luster ,movements look clunky at times to the point I assumed it was made in 2005. It made Yumeria look like it had Accel World animation quality which can I just say if shows made in 2012 or worse 2004 look better then Im sorry your animation is terrible. Ugh moving on to sound. Sound~2/10 The sound is non existent in the background. Op and Ed are forgettable. The VA are decent so Ill give them credit for that. Enjoyment ~ 1/10 I would rather watch Yumeria then this because it at least made me feel emotions ,sure I hate it but its better then being bored. Little to nothing is redeemable so this show is pointless. Overall~2/10 Your better off watching something else. Ill check out season 2 still just to see if they fixed this train wreck but if they dont then oh well. Can I ask what was the point in this show ,seriously? Well then next time I hope I can cover something better then this garbage.
There is a saying "Speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil". How about another way of interpreting this show "Speak nothing, hear nothing, see nothing". Or do nothing. This is basically what this anime about. It is "Is this Order a Rabbit" the "Who gives a ****" edition. STORY (2): The story is about 5 dudes who work in a café. That's about it. We also have random juvenile humour like freak outs and weird costumes. We also have this joke about a guy who is mistaken as a girl. That's about it. Nothing else. It was not funny at all. This anime was directed by TomomiMochizuki. The guy who butchered "Pupa". Will this anime save his career? Or not? The shot answer is no. This anime is so boring with guys talking nothing, doing nothing or be nothing. All they do is go on with their daily lives as waiters in a café with no development at all. They never show anything about being a waiter must have passion for customers and when doing cooking must have the right skill. They never address that. This is because the material is short. ART (2): Well? The animation is bland. Nothing special. SOUND (2): The opening and ending are generic to listen to. CHARACTER (2): Generic cardboard cut outs are basically what I would describe the characters. I never learn anything about their backstory because each episode is only 5 minutes long. I never cared for the characters, they are too boring for me. CONCLUSION (2): I would rather re-watch Glasslip 5000 times than watch this boring anime. Glasslip at least have some likable characters and few romantic moments. Ame-iro Cocoa has none of that. Tomomi Mochizuki, better luck next time. This anime gets a 2 out of 10.
Short anime, short review: This one is a lovely (and kinda shounen-ai) slice of life anime, and it's worth of your attention. It shows some situations between bishounen guys that work in a coffee, and how they deal with their different opinions on themselves. Simple yet fair story, cute art, the sound is just okay, all characters manage to stand out from one another - this was what I liked the most about the series. Now that the series had finished airing, you should watch ALL episodes at once, to multiply the enjoyment. C'mon, the whole series has a total duration of 24 minutes! You should definitely trythis quick one if you like slice of life animes and cute guys.
-- story (3/10) what story. yeah there’s no plot in here whatsoever, which i guess is to be expected from 2 minute long episodes. they’re just a group of dudes, chilling in a cafe, less than five feet apart since they’re possibly a little bit gay. the only real ‘theme’, plot-wise, is that aoi looks like a girl. and frankly i’m stumped by whether the writers added that to make the show funny (well it didn’t work) or just because they couldn’t think of anything else. i presume it’s the later. -- art (4/10) well the characters look like badly drawn ocs from deviantart; they’ve got a touchof that yaoi chin, those massive eyes from “how to draw an anime character” tutorials, and the same oc starter pack hair styles. that said, the backdrop’s not that bad, and at least the characters don’t look the same (beyond just the changing of the colour of hair). it’s below average but not disgusting. -- sound (6/10) i can’t really complain here. the sound definitely isn’t exceptional, and the op’s average, but there are several positives in regards to the sound. for one, the voice actors do sound different (always a plus) and vaguely put forward the character’s personality. there also tends to be chill background track playing in the episodes which adds nicely to the overall calm feel of the anime. (the dog’s voice sucked though.) -- characters (5/10) though there are distinctions in the personality’s of the characters, they are definitely 2D and these distinctions are more tropes that actual character traits: -- enjoyment (5/10) i’m definitely not the ended audience for ame-iro cocoa (i’m presuming it’s targeted for young teen girls, who adore bishies and thus would adore a bishie cast like this) so i can’t say that ame-iro cocoa was the highlight of my day. but then again, i didn’t hate this show - the episodes didn’t make me repulsed, nor did they make me want to stop watching. -- overall (5/10) if i was bored and had nothing to watch, ame-iro cocoa might not be the worst choice. it’s the kind of show you can half watch, and half focus on other things, and you’ll still know what’s going on since nothing every changes.
Although Ame-iro Cocoa episode's are very short (2 minutes only) and have a kinda slow progression on both story and character, its animation, character variety and the interest it creates making the audience curious about the next episodes, make it an anime worth your time and concentration!!!
When I saw the title of this anime, I thought it was cute. I wanted to watch something about people in college for a change because I'm getting pretty tired of high schoolers. When I read the summary and the image for this anime, I thought, "Hmm, this looks pretty good. A little cheesy maybe, but still pretty good." That completely went out the window in the first episode. This anime is nothing special. There's no plot, hook or anything to pull you in and make you want to keep watching. The characters was flat as cardboard. Nothing happens in this anime at all which sucks, becauselike I mentioned above, I really wanted to watch something about university students. The anime is rough 90 seconds if you don't count the opening. Rainy Cocoa isn't something to get obsessed over. It's not something you'll want to count down the days until the next episode. It's not like a real café at all. It's like one of those shops you pass by and only drop in once a while. You know your way around the place, but you don't remember much and you're not really supposed to overstay your welcome. It's just a place to drop by if you're in desperate need of a fix before moving on with the rest of your day. I don't recommend this plot unless you're just bored and want to waste 24 minutes of your life watching something that should really never have been created in the first place.
I know most people gave this anime a bad review, but I kind of enjoyed it? Sure the episodes were short, but the characters were cute, and the art was adorable (I loved that dog the most, Rainy was soooo cute). I think the plot was lacking, but it was made up for in the light and cute feel of the show. If you just want to watch and easy anime that doesn't take very long and its just cute and funny at times, then give this a try. Go ahead and give this short anime a try, and if you don't like it thenthat's fine, its not like it was super long anyways!
*This is a spoiler free review* This anime is good for what it is, a short story in 12 very short episodes. Each episode lasts about 2 minutes, of which 30 seconds are the intro song. Needless to say it's short and to the point, but the story it tells is still compelling, and interesting enough to make it worth spending 5 minutes of your day on. In my opinion, you won't regret watching it, but you won't miss out on a lot if you don't. Good for a couple of laughs and a ship or two. "doki doki"
There are some anime where you see the runtime of each episode and say "wow, I wish these were longer". Ame-iro Cocoa is not one of those anime. I don't remember exactly how I came across this anime. Maybe it was on the front page of kissanime or something. But however I found it, I ended up watching all of the episodes in one sitting since they were only 2 minutes long. You’ll notice I don’t have a warning at the top about spoilers. That’s because there is nothing to spoil in this anime. This anime holds nothing of value in it. The characters areshit, the plot is non-existent, the animation and art are so bland it made Servant Service look like a work of art, and the music was so boring it almost put me to sleep. Not that each episode didn't do that anyways. Before I wrote this review I flipped through a dictionary to try to find a word to accurately describe this anime. Sadly, there appears to be no word in the english language that can do justice to this anime. Simply calling it boring doesn't do it justice. I could sit with my face against a wall for 24 minutes and get more entertainment than I did from watching this anime. I could marathon School Days and still feel like I'd spent my time better. There is nothing in this world comparable to this. Charlotte looks like a masterpiece next to this pile of garbage. The closest thing to it I can think of is the rotting carcass of some sort of bird I found under my bed once. Much to my dismay, I discovered that MAL doesn’t let me rate anything 0/10, so I was forced to raise the score up to a 1. What possessed the people at EMT² to animate this piece of garbage is beyond me. Plot: 0/10 There is no plot. Not that this is in and of itself a bad thing. Some of my favorite anime are Hidamari Sketch and Non Non Biyori. But those at least had some sort of entertainment value. This one is just fucking boring. The fact that the episodes were only 2 minutes was the only reason I kept watching while quietly dying on the inside. Characters: -10/10 I don’t know if anyone here has seen Mawaru Penguindrum, but if you have, you’ll probably remember that all the background characters (people walking on the street, classmates, etc.) were just these floating representations of people with no defining characteristics. That’s kind of what these characters were like. If you asked me, I couldn’t tell you their names or anything about them because their most notable character trait was that they existed. Art: shit/10 As if the plot wasn’t boring enough, the character design and background is so bland and unmemorable, I’m pretty sure if you showed me a screenshot from the anime, I wouldn’t recognize it. Music: …………………. …………………………… ……………………………….. Oh sorry, I fell asleep for a second there. Where was I? Oh yes music. Honestly, I could write music that was more interesting than this anime’s OST. That’s really all I have to say about it. There’s really nothing spectacular about this music other than it was more boring than the character designs I’m going to take a page out of Yuniversal’s book and list the pros and cons of this anime. Here we go. Pros: - the episodes are short Cons: - The plot - The characters - The art - The music - There’s more than 1 episode This anime is worse than Sword Art Online. At least that was entertaining.
Story: What makes this anime different and a little bit harder for me to review is because each episode is only five minutes long at most. Plus, when they say that this anime is a slice of life, it's pretty much slice of life. It's basically about a boy named Aoi Tokura who works a local coffee shop. There he has a chill boss and a few interesting friends, and each episode is another interesting adventure. In my opinion, each adventure was kinda dull. I don't think it was the plot's fault, but it really didn't stick out to me, yet I watched it untilthe very end. I guess I used it as background noise. For that, I would rate this 5/10. Art: This anime is just as shojo as it could get. It's nothing bad, but it's nothing extraordinary either. If I really was indulged, I wouldn't be doing something else as the same time as watching the show. Since I haven't nothing really against it, I would say it's 7/10. Sound: The opening wasn't really fun to listen to, so I just skip it. There's not really an ending to fall back on, so I can't really speak about it. The music in the show isn't so bad, but it's nothing really special. 6/10 for this one I guess. Character: Remember when I said about the story being dull. It wasn't the plot, but it was more based on the characters. To me, this felt like every other generic slice of life anime. Even when things do heat up, I don't feel bad for any of the characters at all. And if you want me to be honest, I can remember their names at all. Just what they looked like. To me, if I forget character names because I don't care, what kind of development was there in the show in general. I guess what I do remember are the stupid little tropes that weren't so creative. You got your innocent, you got your big brother type, and you got your rough around the edges tightass. Not really creative. 1/10 for this one. Enjoyment: Well, there are some funny moments, but it's all based on the tropes. If you like that sort of thing, I suppose it's your anime. It's five minutes per episode for a reason. For me, it was pretty bland and again, it was background noise. 4/10 Overall: There's nothing really much more I can talk about. It can be just me being tired or it could be that there wasn't really much to fangirl over about this show. So I rounded it up to 5/10.
Establishing an entertaining and compelling story with likable characters within a mere two minutes per episode is definitely no easy task. Most anime shorts that fit such a mold are rarely ever worthwhile. Ame-iro Cocoa fits perfectly into that classification. There isn't much to say about Ame-iro Cocoa, so this review will be short and simple. To be frank, the story is nonexistent. It's just a bunch of random scenes strung together with no sense of an actual plot. You follow five male characters who work at/visit a café called Rainy Color. These guys talk to each other and their customers about random, mundane subjects thatgoes nowhere. That's essentially it in terms of plot. There's no progression, no development and nothing interesting happens. I suppose one shouldn't rag on such points since this is a comedic short. Well, the comedy is just as bad since it mostly just boils down to bits that doesn't add to anything besides padding an already fleeting runtime. With the absence of anything funny, it fails at the main thing it's trying to do. The art and backgrounds are simple and plain. The animation was lacking from start to finish. Since most of the focus is fixated on the characters' basic dialogue interactions, there's not much worth in terms of actual animation. The art style and character designs are generic shoujo bishounen fare with not an ounce of creativity. In terms of visuals, it's exceedingly bland. The sound is probably the best thing about this series, but that certainly isn't saying much with the bar being as low. The music gets the job done on the barest of bones level. It's easily forgettable. The moment it stops playing, one could wonder if it was even there in the first place. The opening and ending songs are quite basic as they're generic, run-of-the-mill pop tunes you've heard countless times in these type of series. Every character lacked value and appeal. There's sadly nothing to work with. They're all unimaginative cardboard cutouts of anime character stereotypes, and they're unsurprisingly predictable and boring. Since the runtime is only 2 minutes, there's no room for development or change of any kind. Frivolous chit-chat and interaction is all there is to be found. There's no charm to the cast. Overall, very weak characters. If you just want to turn your brain off and watch a simple short about pretty boys, then you might find some worth here. It doesn't take much time to get through, but one could spend that time on something better due to its aimless nature. If bishounen isn't your thing, you'll end up questioning why you're even watching in the first place. I suggest to let this short go by the wayside as it's a sad attempt at comedy that ultimately doesn't justify its own existence. I award Ame-iro Cocoa with an overall rating of 2.
Rate a 4 English Subtitled Time is sacred for some but they still love anime. This show is somewhat perfect for them. Each episode not including intro/credits is roughly a minute and 15 or so seconds. Definitely something that can be fit into a busy schedule. The goal was to provide a more optimistic side to life. Wasn't meant for anything else. Like a particular genre like comedy, horror, or ecchi. Simply put this is anime that can provide the same benefit if not more just by closing your eyes and listening to the audio. While the picture/background is nice it isn't quite different than most newlypublished anime. Mainly just different characters. Even than some look like other characters from other anime. Overall: While i appreciate the short duration i think making it all into a short movie is a better idea. That way you can skip all the unneeded howdy do's and make your message stand out. I am all for learning new things but having seen this anime i only learned one or two things. Not much on the give and take relationship. Best viewed if you feel what you are doing for work isn't making a difference. Especially if you are in the costumer service relationship.
Ame-iro Cocoa is nothing special of an anime, to be blunt. The premise revolves around a boy who gets hired at a coffee shop and the anitics that he's involved in with a few other "characters" that hang around in the shop. The show is comprised of 12, 2-minute long episodes. Characters: 1 At the rate of these episodes, the show doesn't really have any chance to expand itself much. Due to that, the characters are flat, there is no development between them, just one-trick ponies who all have the same schick every episode, it never amounts to much in the end. But the characters doall have varying personalities: You have the owner, Kouji Amami, who comes in once or twice, who seems very carefree and eccentric. There's Shion Koga, who seems to be the one in charge of the coffee shop when Amami is off doing fun. Shion seems very wise and gives advice to the others. You have Ryouta Sakuragi who always seems to be happy-go-lucky and loud, wanting to be buddies with everyone. You have Keiichi Iwase who is the stoic, quiet character who acts like he doesnt want to be around all the others. And the main character himself who gets hired at this coffee shop, Aoi Tokura, is a teenage boy who is a sweet kid that is often mistaken for a girl by the ladies, though a small drawback to his personality is that he tends to show moments of hotheadedness. Story: 1 I don't know what you call a story, but this anime has nothing of what resembles a story. It just consists of a couple scenes in each episodes that are just strung together with the characters interacting with another. The one thing that I could say could be a subplot or resemble a small side story is both Aoi and Keiichi start of on the wrong end with each other due to a misunderstanding. In the final episode, they start to want to patch up their feelings as friends. That is the extent of the show's story. I suppose you shouldn't expect much to get out of this show, considering its length. Art: 3 The art is probably the most generic and anything you wouldn't expect. I suppose for a 2-minute show, it does its job. Sound: 2 Like everything else, nothing is great about it. The opening is cute, but after hearing the opening for the 3rd time, I got sick of hearing the grating and repeating vocals, so I skipped it from then on. The music itself in the anime itself is alright, it doesn't honestly add anything special to the table. There are no memorable tracks, in fact, I only watched the entire show in one sitting and yet I can't remember one tract or piece that stands out, it just blends in to create a boring soundtrack. But the one good thing is that although the music is bland, it does fit the atmosphere and is appropriate when you can hear it. Enjoyment: 3 Despite everything said beforehand in this review, despite how bare-bones and generic this little anime is, I found I did like it quite a little bit. It was cute to see all these characters interacting and seeing their small personalities clash with another and how Aoi and Keiichi found a way to make things work between them. Overall: 2 Don't come into this anime expecting a lot out of it, you will be sadly disappointed. I only watched this anime out of pure curiosity and it was nothing special, but it wasn't a total waste of 24 minutes to me either. For what it was, it was cute and I enjoyed it on a small scale, but its definitely not memorable in any aspect nor would I be recommending my friends to watch this unless they were that bored enough to want to.
I read the summary/synopsis for this anime and I was SO PUMPED. I WAS LIKE YES, YES YESSSS!!. I was looking for a lighthearted anime that I could watch while I was doing my homework (what can i say- im an amazing multitasker) Unfortunately for me, I did not check how long each episode was. So I was surprised to say the least when I found out on the 2nd episode that each episode was 2 minutes each. Like 2 minutes ? really ? Really ?? REALLY??! The 2 minutes for each episode made it really hard to feel connected to the characters and get emergedin the plot and story line. When I finally got what one episode was about, it then finished and went to the next one. But I do recommend it for those who just want a really short anime, to spend about half an hour to watch (24 minutes to be exact) and for those who are the real thrill seekers can go watch the 2nd season (another 24 minutes). I'll just stay on the safe side and wont be planning to watch the second season.
This is a very weird, short anime which doesn't seem to have any type of story to it. Though, if you're looking to watch something for a minute and a half, which will amaze you on how simple and stupid it can be, just so you can smile and move on with your life: this is the anime to watch! It's short, so you can literally watch it within 2 minutes. The humor is quite bad, but it can brighten up your say really quickly. And there is no story, which just makes me laugh even harder at the end of every episode. So it's quite stupid, which can be just a little bit funny. :)
