It's amost like Love Live! and Starmyu got an unwanted child, a very unwanted child. No but really, I didn't have much expectations for this anime, but despite that it was way more dissapointing than I'd ever imagined. It had absolutely no storyline whatsoever. It felt like a clutter of some random episodes. And while for some anime it may work, for example Yuru Yuri, it defenitly did not for this one. It doesn't fit the genre. It defenitly had some potential to become a mediocre guilty-pleasure anime, but it tured out to be a huge dissapointment. The only thing I kinda liked were some of the ending songs.
Marginal#4 is a hidden gem-- not because of its originality, but its execution. In a very crowded Idol genre --one anime series being VERY similar to another-- Marginal#4 stands out by being polished and humbled down. The basic premise will attract immediate deja vu (four teenagers being assembled as a new idol unit, with each personnel bearing their own history) however it is pretty wise for the anime to not bring out too many characters, allowing proper character development for the four main protagonists. It must also be noted that the finale is not a complete 23-minute concert like the rest of its peers and theoverall art and animation is above average (there is inconsistent asymmetry every now and then which is sort of passable). The music leans more towards mid-90s piano pop which is a breath of fresh air amidst synthesized J-Rock the audience is very well accustomed to. Overall, the series truly offers a pleasant entertainment with no piercing complaints to be addressed. Admittedly, however, being pleasant can easily be translated as being unmemorable-- which is the case for Marginal#4. My suggestion? Look at Marginal#4 as just like breakfast. Light, necessary, but don't expect it to satisfy your whole day worth of craving. You may still need to add other anime to watch for the rest of your day. #felixlovesanime
You want an Idol anime like UtaPri or Dream Festival that is really flashy? Not thw idol show you are looking for. This one is more like TsukiPro and B-Project, you have a slice of life together with them being idols, actually, is the first idol anime I see that they really go to normal school. Story: There isn't one, you have 4 boys that are in a group, the anime tells a little about each one, but not too much to get you really attached to any of them, and they are idols. It's a real slice of life with them going to school, doing club stuffbut at the same time worrying about their careers. Also, you get introduced to other two groups that you don't know anything about but you now know they exist, and thats it. Art I love their eyes and clothes, is good and also the scenery, I classify it as good as it's good but is nothing really impressive. Sound Ok, I love these kind of anime because of the music, and is very good, it took me a little time to actually like it, it wasn't love at first sight but is nice and I want to hear more, it's really worth if it's for the songs and because you know that characters you like the songs more, really recommend it. Character: You don't get much information or development, but this is now quite common, if you see Tsukipro, Tsukiuta or B-project they only introduce the characters and give you some little information about their personalities and if you like it you can search in their official sites. Their main point is to get you to know the groups and the project so you can now like the songs, the bishonen and possibly turn into a fangirl Enjoyment: I like these kinds of anime so it was ok, nothing special I would probably not watch a second season of it, I need more story to work with. Overall: Do you want deep characters? A story? An Idol show really focused in them being Idols? Not the show for you But if you want to know another anime idol group, new songs, see an anime without much commitment (like needing to see till the end to know what happens) to follow it, this is the one you want to watch
If you're hoping for an idol anime like UtaPri or Love Live, this is definitely not the show for you. If you're ok with it being closer to B-Project or a slice of life, it's definitely worth watching. Story wise, there's pretty much nothing to this show. It's mainly about the main 4 boys in school or at work (mainly recording CMs and such, not performing shows). What little plot there is is extremely predictable, and often very silly, but enjoyable if you like silly shows. The animation isn't the best, but it is very good, especially compared to previous Rejet anime. The only downside is occasionalodd directing and bad 3D models. The performances are most 2D, with 3D used for a lot of the motion that isn't close up on the characters. Fitting for a music anime, the music is the best part of the show. It's a bit different from the music this series had before the anime, but in a good way. The opening theme is especially catchy. There are attempts at character development, but aside from one character, it usually fails. If you already know the characters from previous installments of the series, the way they're portrayed is fine, but it might be a bit boring if you're going into the show blind. Again, Magifo is more slice-of-life than anything else. It has a lot of comedy elements, and hits the nail on the head with its jokes about 99% of the time. If you have trouble with second-hand embarrassment, some of the enjoyment comedy-wise might be diminished (Atom), but otherwise it's a lot of fun. The ending theme is also something that's oddly looked forward to throughout the episode, as they have awesome music and fun videos. It's definitely more enjoyable if you're already into the series, but I think it's worth a shot either way.
I've never written a review before, but after seeing the reviews here, I couldn't help but think I should at least add my opinion. This isn't a romance shoujo anime like Utapri and I really don't think it should be compared to that. As previous comments said, it's more like Tsukipro and Starmyu. As the others say, the story is kind of all over the place- but isn't that what life is like normally? Honestly, I think it did a good job of just showing cute scenes of what their lives are like as idols, and even though there's not really an overarcing plot line, it'seasy to watch an episode or two and enjoy it. You don't watch this show for the plot and the story, you watch it for the characters and the art. I gave the story a 6, as it is admittedly the worst aspect of the show. Honestly, I adore the art. The style is a little quirky, and sure, there are some scenes where it's not great, but you can find that in all animation. The 3D scenes were aptly used, the dancing in the endings and opening were all very well done and not at all choppy, and overall, the important scenes in each episode were animated beautifully in my opinion. Of course, the art style isn't for everyone, but I genuinely enjoyed it. I gave the art an 8. This is an idol anime, so obviously the music needs to be good. The opening was phenomenal. It was catchy, well animated, and made me want to dance along. Some but not all of the ending songs were very good as well. I really enjoyed 3 and 7, but my personal favorite was 5. It's very creative that each of the ending songs has to do with what happened in that episode, and it must've been difficult to come up with a song for, for example, pasta. Each of the boys also have a very distinct voice and they all sound very good together. I gave the music an 8. The characters each have distinct personalities, and even though they follow some tropes, they also completely obliterate others (like who the leader is). Yes, they don't have that much development, but it's an 11 episode series about idols, how much character development can they really throw in. It's a comedy about four idols, and for that genre, I believe the characters suited it well. I didn't dislike a single one. I gave the characters an 8. Finally, enjoyment. If you can't tell already, I really enjoyed watching this anime and I wish other people could have enjoyed it more too. I looked forward to it coming out each week, laughed and had a good time when it did, and eagerly awaited the next episode. I gave the enjoyment (for me personally) a 10. Overall, this gets an 8 in my book. I genuinely liked this series and I guess other people expected more from it. You need to go into it not expecting a whole lot of drama and intense moments, and instead just enjoy the ride because some pretty ridiculous and over the top things happen- but you can laugh at them easily unless you planned to dislike this from the start.
Reason for watching: It has several VAs' that I enjoyed listening to in other Music genre anime. TL;DR: Is definitely a slice of life story with the Idol world as its background. The lighthearted story coupled with the fancy music makes it a very "digestible" show. Truth be told, I was a little apprehensive on starting this series as it looks too cheerful (In the way of its at style). But I am glad I took the "leap" and finally started watching and completing this. Hahahah~ So let's begin the review~ Story For music genre shows, I was expecting it to be about the characters getting intothe music world, and faces hardships, and happiness, and etc, all centering around music. Well you know, the standard go-to troupe in many stories. But this show certainly doesn't revolves around music. Is actually more of a slice of life of a group of high school students who happen to be idols. The music element just happens to be part of their life. A similar concept would be Nodame Cantabile actually, where the show focuses on the romance plot of the protagonist using the music world as their background. As expected of a slice of life story plot, every episode shows the protagonists doing different things, and hence, allowing the audience to understand the characters bit by bit. There isn't much focus on the idol work of the protagonists, the storylines are mostly of them dealing with school and PREPARING for work in a lighthearted manner, filled with nonsensical humour, affection, and happiness. Is paced the same way as a typical Slice of Life too, relax and chill pace. But, not to say is just all laughs and awws, the story plot did well to incorporate some storylines that bring about some tension to the audience. Though I mentioned there isn't much focus on idols' work in the show, it doesn't mean there isn't any of their work being showcased. There are of course few story lines here and there showing the characters doing their job, but what is most charming to me is how the show incorporate the ending themes as part of the storylines so naturally. Well, yes, is not rare to do that, but considering the genre of the show, is just so much more natural and satisfying to see that. The idols work that weren't show in the main content were shown as the ending theme, which is making real good use of all the air time they have, imo, hahahha~ I will review animation quality under Art too. As I have mentioned, I was apprehensive about the show due to its seemingly cheerful art style. I do like colourful art, but not exactly bright ones, and also I am not into cutesy character illustrations, unless they are animals, haha~ Anyhow, there's nothing major to dislike about the characters art. The backgrounds and scenery are also pretty and very easy on the eyes. Overall, the Art style here is slightly above average. The animation quality, in general is rather "normal", in the sense that, in this day and age, that's the expected quality to have. But usually for music genre anime, I always look out for the dance moves animation (out of personal preference and habit~ hahah~), and for the very little scenes with the characters actually doing their dances, the animation for those moves are pretty well done. I have seen better, but I have seen worse ones more often. Hence, I do think the animation team here did a pretty decent job trying to show the choreography of the dances to the audience. Sound wise, I do enjoy every single ending theme, as well as their opening song. And as expected, I enjoyed the VAs performances. HAhaha~ Sound effects were also on point. Overall, the music/sounds that were used in the anime were above average. Characters are alright, nothing to dislike, and nothing too stellar too. As what you can expect from a slice of life story plot, the characters are pretty mild, they aren't strong or interesting nor do they stand out much. Though we do get to discover the characters slowly throughout the 12 episodes, is more of knowing who they are as compared to getting character developments. The character developments here are minor and predictable. But not too shabby since it fits the story and the chill vibe well.
