Welcome to my review of Kandagawa Jet Girls This review has some minor spoilers in it! The story itself is very simple. Like they often are in CGDCT anime!! Girls competing on jet skis. It's a team racing sport with a driver and a shooter. Trying to shoot water at each other so they will lose their cloth!! Or stop the jet ski dead on the track. The jet's skis and their cloth have sensitive spots which they aim for. It's a simple and fun concept!! Rin is a well-developed girl full of Genki. She likes to race And she also likes other girls!! So shedecides to go to the big city and take part in the fun. And there she meets her partner and the skilled shooter Misa. Who is a bit shyer than Rin and rather tends to herself. But after becoming roommates Rin wins Misas heart, And together they start a club to race other girls. It's the typical cute girls doing cute things story, A girl wants to do something meets another girl, and falls in love. Then starting a club and more girls will join! The only difference these anime are more focused on the other teams and the girls in them, rather than only focusing on all the members of Misas and Rins club Overall the story is entertaining heartwarming humorous and enjoyable. It also has some sports and drama segments but neither takes up to much time. It's more focused on the girls and they having a good time!! I just want more it's very captivating and comfortable just like it should be in a CGDCT/Yuri anime Love the art a bit simple but the girls are beautiful and a lot of fun Ecchi! Warm colors and the CGI effects, when they are racing, look great! Noting that really impresses me greatly! I've seen better! But for being a CGDCT it holds a high standard overall. Even if it's not the best! It still looks really good and definitely doing its job The sound is one of the less important factors for me in an anime! But I like the op!! And the sound may not be memorable. But it's far from being irritating screeching noise that hurts my ears!! So no problem with the sound The characters are just the best!! Very alluring and lovable girls overall. Easygoing emphatic and charming females, As they should be in a CGDCT/Yuri. They rather wanna be friends than fierce rivals or enemies. There are good variations so they also feel like individuals and are interesting in their own way!! Some of them like the lesbians twins can be a bit annoying. But again it gives some variations when some of the females are more competitive than others. They are captivating and they get all the focus, so they can grow and are easy to appreciate. The anime takes its time to build the characters. Which is extremely important. It's all about the girls Love to see the main girls and their strong character development. Rin better herself at the sport and put in a huge amount of effort! She really wants to win and show her girlfriend she is serious!! And she excels on all levels. Misa is really good at the sport already! But she became more open towards Rin and stop shutting herself in. Misa is shy but she likes Rin. And after seeing how serious Rin is, love starts to develop and she starts to open up! From being so shy having a problem asking for Rins phone number! To go around and hold her hand. It's super cute and makes me so happy! And for me personally, I love to see how jealous Misa becomes later in! She becomes really irritated as soon as another girl touches Rin hugs her or shows too much interest. She wants Rin for herself and for me, that is a monumental plus. And because their relationship gets so much stronger! Their performance also increases. It's a team sport after all Misa and Rin are not only a team in that manner, but They are also a lesbian couple! And because the anime care so much, And takes a big portion of its time to build the girls!! Strengthen them and their relationship. It also feels very credible overall and makes them shine And with the strong characters that I love I also really enjoy the anime overall. I love Yuri!! And there are warm friendly lesbians everywhere,, YEEES! As far as the eye can see. Clinging onto each other holding hands hugging and flirting are all over the place!! Misa and her girlfriend Rin are adorable together It's Yuri heaven. Everything to lesbian couples! Too heavily implied lesbian sex is taking place. That is nothing you see every day in anime Sadly some people don't understand what a Yuri is and question it. Well, people I know Yuri well. And they have flashed the white lily with a blue overtone. It's a symbol they use in Japan in lesbian media. If people don't understand what that means their knowledge about Yuri is very low. They are a few Yuri's every year, and this is a heavy fetishist one with only females! Exactly how I want them to be And If you are looking for a sports anime with fierce competition rivalry and similar aspects. You are barking at the wrong tree. This is not it. This is a Yuri and a CGDCT show. With huge among of Ecchi, and a tiny tiny speck of sport and competing. The racing is only there to give the cute girls something to do, rather than sit on their adorable little asses all day long and be cute . This shouldn't even have the sport tag in my meaning. Sports fans should keep away from this! But if you like cute girls. Who getting lewd all the time!! Touching each other constantly is super nice and has a lot of heartwarming moments. And all of those divine angels are lesbians,, YEEES!,, You will love this and have a lot of fun. So for all pure Yuri lovers like me, I strongly recommend this anime Thank you for reading
Kandagawa Jet Girls is a sports anime about PWC, where duos races each other in the Kandagawa River, our protagonists are the genius shooter Misa Aoi, dubbed by Riko Kohara and the genius speeder Rin Namiki, dubbed by Yuu Sasahara. Misa used to live in the shadow of her sister, another genius shooter, and felt like she had to be just like her, Rin, on the other hand, has a speeder mother and despite her not imposing anything on her daughter, Rin wanted to be just like her, even being a speeder. The story turns around only one thing: their desire to win the Kandagawa Cupagainst the other schools. So all the races will be set on the same river, they don't change the course, don't add new obstacles, no challenges whatsover so all the races will be the same, the difference our protagonists will face are: new weapons and driving styles (that doesn't make that much difference since not much of the race is focused anyway). On the races, sometimes they will rely on CGI, and it looks as good as Hatsune Miku (the vocaloid) in 2009 - it isn't bad, but it feels outdated, specially when their face are expressionless. There is one or two moments of character development so, basically they keep pretty much the same throughout the series. Voice acting imo is 50/50, I've seen some great promise here on this anime, I really enjoyed how Riko Kohara (Misa Aoi) gave life to her character, however there are others that either has a disconnection between voice and body or voices that are so similar to others used in different animes that if you did a blind test you wouldn't be able to point out the character. So kudos to Riko Kohara. The animation is lazy and poor, the drawings are okay considering 9 of the racers have big tits and the other 3 are lolis, not a complain, but characters outside the race seem to have more normal bodies. Also, the last episode seemed to have a poorer quality than usual imo. They even finish saying this is our favourite water sport, but you will have to agree that Keijo!!! did a far better job than Kandagawa, still if you just watch it for "plot" than you will enjoy it, I tried to point out other points too.
There is more to racing than just increasing your speed...............Hummm , maybe but not with this trash and seriously, whoever thinks that this should have a high score, must've have been one lusty puppy. So, without anymore bullshit, here are my ratings for this trashy anime: Story-Mediocre: Regardless as to what any reviewer says, it was just the usual josei genre sport plot where girl go to school with dreams of joining some club, only to find it crumbling or it doesn't exist at all, and another girls who was once into that kind of thing , but has already given up but was forced intogoing back to the very thing that she tries to forget. And , in the end they came out victorious, TCH!!!! Very mediocre at all, in fact the real story around here was more on that skinship thing where there was that suggested lesbian thing that them dogs would wanna wink wink their winky. Art-Good 7: What can I say, It was all about the boobs , ass , boobs, curves, boobs, swimsuit and boob, boobs and boobs, cu'z that what makes them dogs go gaga over it. Sound- Very Good 8: That was for the opening theme, BULLET MERMAID" by Yuu Sasahara and Riko Kohara. and "RIVALS" by Azusa Tadokoro. Character- Pathetic 1: Ok, so what we have here were a pair of 6 teams, and as to what I can say only team "Dress" that was composed of the quintessential rich girl, Kaguya Shijuuin and her quintessential maid bitch, Kuromaru Manbu were the only one whom you could consider as the antagonist given that we never see them interact with any of the other team after episode one. The rest, well, you could say that for them to be condescending to the main duo, Rin and Misa was more like a start but just as what was expected there wasn't much of any good rivalry except in the jet race, but then again this was more on the relationship between them Orcano girls like Rin and Misa as to how their relationship blossom. Ok, so what about it???? Well, that's just it ,it was more of that lesbian thing and quite frankly every character here except for them "Dress" girls were more on that lesbian love thing, the most intense was with the Pan sister or them idol bitches, in fact you'll always see them making love of sorts. Shit , them dogs looks like they like them making it out. Enjoyment-Poor 3: Frankly, the only thing that make this enjoyable was the uncensored version, everything else was more like a chore. Overall-Dreadful 2: For something that was taken from a game, I wouldn't find it surprising that the game itself was more on the galge side than in the racing side and no offends , but for someone to give this a high overall score, probably can't get enough of them Yuri thing.
Okay so I think that as an anime fan, you all had at least one show where, on the first look, it seemed fine and you were like "oh that show looks good, I have to try it". And the more and the more you learn things about it, the more it scares you... BUT you end up trying anyway. Yeah, that's me and Kandagawa Jet Girls, I mean come on, who wouldn't enjoy a Jet Ski anime with anime girls? Because it's a nice idea for a plenty of reasons, like Jet Ski isn't that much of a deal from my knowledge in fictions in general and well...ANIME GIRLS. Pretty much anybody could like that, if it were done good. Unfortunately Kandagawa Jet Girls that I will abridge as "Jet Girls" did not gave me the "good take" I wanted and I'm gonna try to explain why. First of all, Jet Girls is an ecchi/sport/moe anime created by the minds behind Senran Kagura ((the games) for those who don't know, it's a game franchise with a lot of fan service that has been adapted in anime) and made by the studio "TNK", well known for Highschool DxD, Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai (not the Nanatsu no Taizai you are searching for, be careful) and... oh well School Days. So yeah that's not a good start. It Follows the concept of "cute girls doing cute things" where this time, the "cute thing" in question is Jet Ski. Without further delay, let's head into the actual review! Story (5/10): The plot is pretty simple, Rin Namiki, a young enthusiastic girl leaves her home town to go in a big city where a river named Kandagawa is the central point of a new sporting discipline called "Jet Race". And you guessed it, it's a sports anime, Rin's goal is gonna be to be the best at it. Jet Race is basically casual Jet Ski but must be done by peers of two girls, one racer that drives the jet ski and one shooter that shoots the opponents. But that's not all! Because there is also some unique specifications to the discipline. You know, like the possibility of shooting the opponents to make theirs clothes drop, that kind of CASUAL specifications. You can also shoot the ennemy Jet Ski to make them slow down and the Jets themselves can activate a boost occasionally during the race. So the goal of Jet Racing to obviously to finish the course at first place, while attacking the opponent team to prevent them from winning. Yeah, noticed how it is more looking like the concept of a video-game rather than one of an anime? And rightly, because that's actually a game, the anime is none other than a kind of promo for the incoming "true product". Do I mean to say that's bad? Well no but actually yes, at least it's not in every case but here it's gonna be a big problem that is gonna explain a few things in the failure of this anime. But coming back at the story, Rin Namiki will team up with Misa Aoi, a shooting prodigy that f lost her passion for Jet Race and... Yeah you know how that will go, it's a sports anime. They will, on their journey, meet up with a bunch of others colorful duos of females characters practicing Jet Race and through trials and hardships eventually become rival/friends with them. So, that's a lot to remember but, is the story bad? Well yes and no. Yes because in the execution and development it's absolutely cliche and basic, without any attempt to do something greater than barely passable. And no because in the ideas that the universe introduces, like Jet Race and only Jet race actually with the things around it are pretty interesting and not too bad overall. So it's a perfect fifty fifty, not bad, not good, just tolerable and potentially a good support to do cool things with the characters while fan servicing. Characters (3/10): Oh well... Let's forget what I said just a second ago right? THE CHARACTERS OF THIS ANIME ALL ARE AN ABSOLUTE DUMPSTER FIRE. Let's say you put all the bad sides of moe and cliche shonen in one damn mixer trying to get them all in. Somehow you succeed to squeeze everything in and so, you put it to work. Well let's say you really succeed this cursed experience, at the end, the result will probably be Jet Girls. There is one and only major flaw that ruins everything when talking about the characters of this anime. Their caracterisation is complety exaggerated and cliché without any substance or creativity. And so, all the situations and interactions between them are completely insufferable, cringe and just silly in general. Take the Misa/Rin relationship for example, first of all, their archetypes are already overused as hell, the cliché lively girl who wants to be the best at something and the dark emo ex-prodigy who lost her passion at something. Difficult start one must say, but nothing too bad if executed correctly. However you guessed it, it's not executed correctly. Because on top of their cliché and overused archetypes, they are made as such, completely ininteresting, acting like robots all the time with a writing that's overall just being lazy and soulless. And so, if their individual characters are lacking, their relationship is too. They meet, interact 2-3 times in meaningful ways and suddendly they are best friends who almost want to have sex with each other. This development does not follow any kind of coherent progression and is devoid of any humanity or soul. There is never anything endearing about them, it's just so soulless. It's so impersonal and lazy, it's actually kind of sad. Rin, Misa, all the characters of this anime are just made to be perfect cute anime girls with no flaws or conflict whatsoever which makes them very boring and unappealing. I personnaly like when I can feel like this 2D drawing could be a true human being, that's what makes them attractive and likeable, I'd say it's very important in an anime with fanservice. Sexy bodies and pretty faces aren't enough on their own, the characters themselves needs to be endearing, that's how purely sexual attraction become true love to the character that's supposed to make you feel that way. But here, everything is just so unbelievably cute and sexy and perfect that they don't even feel like human beings anymore. All of that makes the characters absolutely not likable and I'm personally literally not attached to anyone in this show. Oh yeah and how can I forget that to distract you from the obvious flaws of the writing, everyone is pretty much gay is this anime, because... well because. Again, no logic, no development, no exploration of that at all actually, it's just there, not presented correctly and of course barely shown at all. I find it cool to have those kinds of relationships represented but it's so poorly made and used that it makes me really sad. Overall if I can give one good credit to the characters, it is that at least their development is okay, well for those who actually have a development but hey that's already good right??? Again, it's cliche and without any risks but it's pretty solid, thanks for trying I guess. To finish on the characters, I have nothing against the voice actors themselves but I feel like they were given the worst material and direction to work on so yeah, I did not like them that much either but I feel they could have been really cool. So yeah, the characters are really bad and of course with a LOOOOOOOT of dumb fan service you can include in the problematic. Art (4/10): The art is not good. I can say this bluntly, the art is really not good at all. In fact, it's one of the major flaws in this anime. Firstly, well, all of the races are made in CGI :) So yeah, talk about an oof moment, but you know what?... I can personally look beyond that. Because I think that in terms of camera work and rhythm, the anime makes at the end a pretty good job at making the races pretty exciting and fun to watch (yeah I just pointed out a positive of the anime, don't pay attention). The backgrounds are also overall pretty good. No, the gigantic problem with the art actually comes with the characters themselves. Because, well, they just don't look very good. The chara-designs are pretty inconsistent with their faces always changing traits from one scene to another due to the lack of animation quality and not a single one of them have any gimmick that represents them and their personalities in the way they move of react. They almost have no characterization already and this flaw extends himself in the art style and animation, and for an ANIMATED work that wants to be cute and attractive, well I guess you could say that it's a huge letdown. Sound (4/10): Honestly, I don't even know what the fuck is going on with the soundtrack. It sounds like eurobeat mixed with dumbstep 80% of the time and the rest is just some annoying and forgettable ost. I don't have really much more to say about it, it's just weird and it wasn't my thing. Enjoyment (6/10): Finally a score above average and yeah, I pretty much enjoy this anime at the end lmao Like I laughed a lot, that's for sure, but you could say it's not really for the good reason. At first I started this anime with some hopes that's for sure, but after the first episode, they were already all left completely crushed. However there was still a thing that kept me watching it until the end, coming back every week to see each new episode. And it's the pure sillyness of everything in this anime, it's just dumb and funny. I was frequently just there, sitting in front of my screen, thinking of what I looked like from an exterior point of view, like I was watching myself from another body. And honestly picturing myself watching scenes like the one where four girls talk while a train is storming above theirs heads, making theirs boobs shake is just too ridiculous and funny. So yeah, Jet Girls is really not that good but, I'd say it's so much bad that it kinda grown on me with time and I think I like it for being terrible. It's just so dumb, it's fun. I laughed a lot and that's all that matters. Overall (4/10): So why am I making this review if I actually enjoyed this anime? You know, it's not because you enjoy something that you actually can't admit that it is kinda bad? And I'm doing this long review just for sharing my opinion of a random guy that does loves reasonably enough ecchi or yuri to have a less biased opinion than a lot of people in this review section ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I think that can be interesting, but anyway let's wrap this once and for all. To conclude, Jet Girls is honestly a bad anime, and an unused potential to deliver a strong female sport anime that could have had actually GOOD fan service. It wasn't impossible, far from it. The story and characters are pretty much terrible up and it's so cliche and soulless that it became barely believable at some point. Everything comes with extremely low effort and inspiration and it upsets me a lot when I look above my personal enjoyment to see that such a great idea on the paper went to be a catastrophic mess like that, reduced to a stupid promotion for an upcoming eponymous anticipated game. The history of this anime was already written before it aired, it was meant to sell games, like the Senran Kagura anime does and very much like it again, not being good. But it's funny so it's okay to laugh and learn from the mistakes of the anime I guess. Anyway, that was all I had to say on "Kandagawa Jet Girls", thanks to you if you've read all the way down there. Don't forget, never stop to like what you like and it's time for me to retreat (งツ)ว
What looked to be a mediocre sports anime at first actually turned out to be one of the cutest yuri love stories I have seen in an anime. This show has great characters, good humor and is wholesome af with a satisfying ending. I went into it for the fanservice (of which there is plenty) but I stayed for the comedy and romance. The interaction between the main characters is great and the side characters manage to represent a variety of archetypes in a self-aware manner that doesnt feel annoying at all. The animation is good except during the racing sequences which feature 3D animationsthat look a bit low budget. Way underrated show in my opinion!
Kandagawa Jet Girls is not for all viewers, but it was certainly made for me. It was a wonderful adventure that started with Namiki Rin going to Kandagawa to pursue her dream of becoming a jet racer. Jet Girls had a wonderful cast of characters that made the story a lot more enjoyable than it should have been. The main characters are wonderful and seeing their friendship grow throughout the show was heartwarming and made me tear up at the end of the show. The show also had wonderful 3D animation that was well made and made the racing feel more realistic. In short, Jet girls wasworth the watch and I would recommend it to anyone that liked Two Car. I give it a solid 10/10 in my heart. Best anime of 2019.
Kandagawa Jet Girls (2019) So, of course, the story is very simple. Jet skiing on more futuristic platforms with a gunner. Magazines with more ammunition than anything I have ever known but then it isn't real. The show has some merit but I do struggle to notice it behind all the unnecessary extra things. Why every time Rin gets emotional she has to place her hands on her chest is somewhat weird. I know the show has a huge basis on the Ecchi side of animation but it just feels weird. Almost uncomfortable. They do cover just about every possible trope you can imagine except fora true Yandere style girl. The team with Kaguya the grey-haired girl have to me what I see as uncomfortably large chests. To the point, I even think some Hentai may see it in the niche market. The best girls on this show, to be honest, are the Idol team Hell's Kitchen. For what it is worth against the main protagonist they are a more interest team. They seek to develop and take from others experiences to grow. Whereas, Rin is stuck in the past with a heartfelt story that has affected her through the majority of 11 episodes until she finally realises the truth. Misa is just a girl who is in the hard done self-pity that ruins all the character-building around her. She would have been better just staying as a Tsundere. The show itself with the story is just a mess of fan service. I do enjoy such things but it feels so forced and uncomfortable at times. At least with the second-best girls being the shrine maidens, they are interesting and normal in proportions. Personally I like to see girls with a more average which let us not forget by global standards is an EU B rating, so why everyone in this is abnormally huge doesn't make sense. The art of the show is pretty average and personally I feel like it was a bad choice of animation style. It just doesn't work. The OP is fun but the rest of the sounds are pretty average. Character development as said would have been much better focusing on Hell's Kitchen and the shrine maidens as a side as opposed to the lacklustre main protagonists we actually got in the end. As far an enjoyment goes the show is very average. It does nothing special and what it does do is overdone. Overall, this was not for me. It isn't just because I prefer smaller chests on girls but because the show is forced and not very comfortable. The story lacks anything truly interesting and leaves me with a dull ending.
Kandagawa Jett Girls isn't really mediocre as people say. It has good elements and decent storytelling, not the best but definitely good. The story focuses on two girls Rin Namaki and Misa Aoi who are in a Jet racing club and compete against other teams from different schools Rin is aspiring to become a pro jet racer just like her mom and Misa is trying to find her rhythm to get back on her feet. At first, I did find Rin's constantly meddling annoying and I can tell Misa was annoyed too. She needs her private space but Rin was just constantly being pushy, aftera while, I started to like her a bit. She's really a cheerful and playful person. I liked the interactions between the characters, most specifically Rin and Misa. Their relationship started off rocky but gradually Misa opened up to Rin. Misa was more of an introvert and she preferred to be alone. The characters in the show are great except for the twins. They are so rude and they constantly believe they are superior to everyone because they're idols. The other characters were also great. I loved how much they have fun when they put aside their differences and have fun. And of course, the fanservice. Tbh I had already planned on watching the show since 2020 and I didn't think it would have fanservice but I did enjoy it. Overall, Kandagawa Jet girls is an anime with determined and fierce competitors who are determined to give it their all. The focus of the show is more on the fanservice and the racing is just a way for the girls to kill off steam. If you're looking for a sports anime with echhiness this one is for you if not then find something else.
I don't usually do many reviews, but I felt like I should at least try to persuade people to watch this. At the very least I feel like it's underrated cuz people see some boobs and probably assume the worst, just like I did. For starters, i'm not a fanservice guy. I'm mostly a romance/slice of life/Romcom kinda person. Me and fanservice just don't get along. For a comparison, Keijo, similar sports type ecchi anime, got a 4 from me. Going into this, I had zero expectations and figured i'd just be met with your typical ecchi garbage. I'm part of a group that throws anime intoa competition and let rng decide our next watch. Of course of all the things that could win, it was Kandagawa Jet Girls. It basically shocked our whole group when we all ended up invested in the characters and their relationships. Yeah, there's a lot of boobs, but behind it all there's some solid characters that have some really wholesome and cute moments. The story really isn't about jet ski racing as much as it is Rin and Misa's growth together. While not *technically* yuri, there's like a mountain of subtext between the two throughout that just feels super warm to watch. It's almost dumb how precious those two idiots are despite the kind of show they're in. It actually gets a bit emotional here and there when it comes to Rin's family stuff as well. I think the biggest downside of the show is probably the animation. It's worst moments are during the jet ski races, but those aren't really that plentiful so overall it still works pretty well the rest of the time. The main culprit is the rough 3D work they go for during races. If you like slice of life/cute romance type stuff and boobs don't bother you, i'd recommend at least giving a few episodes a try and see if you can get behind the main characters. If you end up liking them, this could be something you could really enjoy.
Story and characters: This anime is about girls practicing a fictional sport and having fun. I felt like there is an excess of characters. It has one of the simplest stories I have seen. I think this anime shows respect to its viewers in a sense because there is no hype or big promises, nor characters talking in an unnatural way to make things look important. It is a show that doesn't attempt to hook you. I think this is a good thing. Art and sound: Nothing out of the ordinary, it all combines with the cheerfulness of the characters. The OP and ED are good.Overall: It is a fun show to watch. I honestly haven't found any particular problem to complain about.
Jet Girls is as much about racing as Grand Blue is about diving. Not in the funny sense of avoiding a plot objective to accentuate comedy; Jet Girls tries to be taken seriously as a sports anime and utterly fails to sell a convincing narrative. Then the time that it wastes trying to be sincere is to the detriment of the fanservice that 99% of viewers are only interested in to begin with. In all you have a product that spreads itself too thin and winds up mediocre in all areas. The racing segments mix poorly rendered CG visuals that break viewer immersion into the actionas they do not at all resemble the fluidity of water sports. The teams have good visual concepts and unique designs, but are not taken advantage of through enough character exposition and build up to make the races feel meaningful. This is particularly damning because Jet Girls is/was intended to promote a racing game set to release after the anime concluded. Given how low the BD sales were, it safe to say very few viewers were convinced into buying the game itself. Of course, it isn’t at all necessary to have a good story in order to be a good fanservice show. But even here Jet Girls has flaws as it never submerges into perverted degeneracy, only pussyfooting around the border with yuri teasing that goes nowhere and brief static shots of nudity that seem more like a checklist obligation than a dedicated effort on the part of the studio to give as much service as can reasonably fit within a given episode. There’s a huge imbalance in the nudity that some girls are given compared to others, which would typically be fine if there were more creativity in how those same characters are shown nude or it were not at the expense of the more attractive girls in the show. There's a girl in this anime with like size L tities that is scarecly ever shown past episode two. This is a travesty. Keijo is an example of a fanservice anime that successfully intertwines competition and fanservice. Without nudity, it managed to make ass worship a constant component of the narrative itself that was enhanced by the plot developments. Not the case with Jet Girls where nudity was barred from competition - so the best fanservice scenes are never during racing segments, which happen to take up half of the episodes that they occur in. It gets worse when you consider who the director is. Kaneko oversaw Maken-Ki, Oyokodon, Seikon no Qwaser, Valkyrie Mermaid, Nande Koko, Manyuu Hikenchou. Kaneko is an ecchi demi-god who has previously not been afraid of crossing boundaries and giving the viewer exactly what they wanted. This project is so far off from his norm - rated PG13 by comparison, that you have to wonder what went wrong. I suspect that Jet Girls being a video game adaptation that may have strict producers (Sony) has something to do with this. It is fair to wonder who or what this anime was directed towards, neither fulfilling the requirements of being a solid sports nor fanservice show that leaves the viewer satisfied with what they’ve completed. I can't deny that some people will still like Jet Girls despite the above criticism - it can give you some mild titillation and can give you a barebones racing story with a beginning and a semi conclusion, but if you're actually invested into either the ecchi or sports genre it is difficult to overlook the above flaws that were self inflicted by pandering to two different audiences with none of the necessary nuance or detail to sell either convincingly.
The creator of Senran Kagura had a hand in this anime, ohhh it's shows it shows. Do you know what Kandagawa Jet Girls reminds LA of, it's the time where light music all girls club animes were all the rage but replace that with sports (Jet riding) and a whole lot of fanservice and shoujo ai elements into it and we have Kandagawa Jet Girls. Kandagawa Jet Girls have that air that it was influenced by the K-On!'s and BanG Dream's but to add that fanservice and yuri elements they made the activity to get all the girls into the club being jet riding in whichtwo people ride on the jets, one who drives, the other that has a water firearm as it were to slow down the opposing rider. The characters for the most part have their pairing schtick since the entire jet racing is also in pairings but the major focus and narrative focus are on our main core duo Misa Aoi voiced by Riko Kohara and Rin Namiki voiced by Yuu Sasahara, Misa is the no nonsense stoic one but has a slight dere to her tsun to her "frienemies" while Rin is the ditzy genki girl of the anime and is the liking to ALOT of the girls in the cast. Now most of the rivals that Misa and Rin faces are well frienemies, once they race once they becomes friends rather quickly as a result and this anime's tone becomes an ensemble cast where the cast almost coincidentally do the same things together. The rivals consist of Manatasu Shiraishi voiced by Chika Anzai and Yuzu Midorikawa voiced by Kaori Maeda as the gyaru popular duo, Emily Orange voiced by Ai Fairouz and Jennifer Peach voiced by Lynn as the funny foreigner yet Japanese dup who loves Japanese stuff and Fuuka Tamaki voiced by Ayaka Asai and Ziyu Pan voiced by Rumi Ookubo as the idol duo "Hell's Kitchen" with one having a rather narcissistic competitive streak to them. Misa and Rin does have supportive members to their Jet Racing club, that of the mechanic of the Orcano Jet and the caretaker of Misa and Rin's dorm that helps the both of them out club related. Finally we have Rin and Misa' actual goal of the anime, that of defeating and winning against Manpuku Kuromaru voiced by Aya Suzaki and Kaguya Shishuuin voiced by Azusa Tadokoro the reigning champions. For the most part, it's the development of Rin and Misa's relationship as the start off kinda rocky with their personalities clashing and as a result, both of them needing to learn about teamwork to win through their impromptu races. As for their rivals, they have their base personalities and gimmicks about them and they really don't development outside of that, it's Rin and Misa's story through an through. And in comes some problems LA have with Kandagawa Jet Girls, the rivals themselves are pretty bland as rivals due to their running gags and gimmicks being their ONLY personality trait about them let alone that they don't develop AT ALL. Next and lastly is that the animation tends to go into the derpy side, on speaking of which... The animation done by TNK is ehhh ok, Kandagawa Jet Girls does have an uncensored version and even then the animation is just ehhh, the character designs are striking at least but that's the best it's got it for it. The Jet Racers are ok but stilted due to the 3DCGI used but for the most part they are ehhhh ok. TNK's animation is kinda expected from them at this point with the major focus on the fanservice and character designs and it shows. The voice cast has a mixture of rookie and veterans seiyuus with the rookie's taking on the main character status, that of Riko kohara and Yuu Sasahara as Misa and Rin. Ai Fairouz has gotten herself a niche as a blonde gyaru as Emily Orange while LA didn't even notice that Chika Anzai voiced Manatsu and Aya Suzaki voiced Manpuku. To be honest, the voice cast was decent if not excessively moe, if you can withstand that. Sure Kandagawa Jet Girls has it's flaws in it's rivals and character development outside of Rin and Misa being bare minimum running gag material, with it's animation by TNK needing some touch ups and it having derps here and there with stilted 3DCGI with the races. Kandagawa Jet Girls is nonetheless, not horrible, unabashedly it KNOWS what it wanted to do, stumbled a couple of times and is mostly on the laxxed side of things for character and plot but LA can't hate this anime, it pretty much gave LA the same feelings LA had to the first season of Senran Kagura as it had it's problems but wasn't horrible but it's fanservice wasn't annoying, it had it's charm and so does Kandagawa Jet Girls and again it shows since the creator of Senran Kagura had a hand in this anime. To this end, this anime having a rather large focus on Rin and Misa's relationship for both good and bad times they go through, all the way through it's an unbashed yuri fanservice anime about their relationship as well as their rivals nudging this notion even more.
Kandagawa Jet Girls is an anime with an interesting premise, but completely fell flat in terms of execution, the end result is a cliche-filled show without a strong identity. There could have been two appeals to this anime, firstly it could have had intense sports rivalry or relationship drama that intensify the matches or it could have had the appeal of being a relaxing cute comedy show. The premise of the anime is based on a fictional water sport, jet racing. The sport itself had interesting rules of being a 2 ppl team. Instead of typical 1 racer only, you would have a driver anda shooter that can shoot bullets to slow the opponent down, and the fact that jets can be optimized to fit the style of the driver/shooter. The concept was interesting to me, and I kept on watching, hoping that the next episode would get better, and it didn't. The matches didn't felt intense. This was because there were very little stakes in most matches and "rival "characters were just generic archetypes without any additional identities except mostly being cheerful and happy. The characters has so much time doing non-jet racing related activities, that it is difficult to take the matches seriously. For a 12 episodes anime, there were quite a few that felt like fillers where they are just relaxing and doing non-jet racing related things. Relationship dramas felt 2-dimensional, as if it is written with a generic end goal in mind of for example, "let's be a better person" rather than putting the necessary thoughts into how to actually make the show interesting to watch. The races felt like a repeat of the ones before rather than each match being unique. Either one of interesting drama or distinguishable character abilities could have made each race feel less repetitive but the show had too little of them. By the time I was watching the last race, I was just sinking on my bed wishing it to be over soon because result was obvious and there was nothing to be excited about. Jet Girls was not a good CGCDT comedy either, it relied too much on cliches and character archetypes instead of creating any actually interesting scenarios. The jokes were way too predictable since they either focus on the "one" trait the characters have over and over again or based on "cliches" that never becomes anything more than generic due to scenarios never having any creative spark (typical anime bath / beach scenes for example). To fill in the downtime, every episodes have to have at least a few shots either showing the girl's naked body or how big their boob is, but there is no any actual sex appeal to it and it is confusing what they are trying to achieve with it. The most interesting character in the show to me by far is a Kiriko Yoshitoku, a Jet Race geek who loves reading about jets that barely had any screen time. She is laid back, chill, cute, doesn't speak in weird hyper energetic way every phrase, and a "normal" look that stands out among all the "glamour" from every other side characters. She didn't do much, that other characters were just too bland in comparison. For a show that claims its sports to be "the world's most intense aquatic sport"... It wasn't. It actually take serious skill to write an anime with this concept and end up making it this boring. The only surprise I felt was me repeatedly imagining myself talking to the crews behind this anime "you are not going to execute a 12 episodes anime this way... aren't you?" And then they did, in a way that was worse than I expected, all the way until the last episode.
