When Demon Queen Echidna begins her invasion of the human realm, the people turn to the hero Leo Demonheart to protect them. Blessed with insurmountable power, Leo easily repels Echidna's army, thereby saving the world. But instead of gratitude or admiration, Leo is met with disdain and scorn from his fellow humans, who fear his overwhelming strength and believe that it may eventually cause humanity's demise. Banished from the kingdom he once called home, Leo wanders aimlessly throughout the land until, one day, he hears rumors of Echidna's efforts to rebuild her army. Hoping that demonkind might accept him as an ally, he returns to the demon queen's castle and offers Echidna his help. Naturally, Echidna immediately rejects him. Still, not all hope is lost, as Leo manages to convince Echidna's four generals to let him secretly work under their supervision. Donning the identity of a masked dark knight named Onyx, Leo solves the demon army's problems one by one—gradually improving the quality of life around the castle. Above all else, however, Leo wants to accomplish one goal: to learn why Echidna started the war in the first place. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Hello? Realist Hero? Is this you again? What is the shtick this time round? You've heard of stories where the Hero comes to help a fledgling friend or enemy in need, a setting and story that only now, has become its own sub-genre of all things. The oldies like myself will know of novelist Mamare Touno's Maoyuu Maou Yuusha which saw the LN ran from 2010 and 2012 and studio Arms' anime adaptation the year after the LN ended (damn, now I feel so old that this source is more than a decade old). The more recent mainstream ones are of course, novelist Dojyomaru's Realist Heroand Toru Toba's Tensai Ouji. And in this packed Spring season, there's one more to add to the mix: novelist Quantum's only work that is Yuusha, Yamemasu a.k.a I'm Quitting Heroing, a short 3-volume LN fantasy series that ran from December 2017 to October 2018. Its overall themes are very similar to Maoyuu, but I feel that the context of Realist Hero is also important as well for creating the reverse "the grass is greener on the other side" derivative of "How a Failed Hero Rebuilt the Demon Lord's Army". The result from all of this are answers that'll surprise you if you understand the context well to fully appreciate what this show is about. Without further ado, here we go again...the story of the clashing between humanity and demons seems to have no end, it's a guaranteed must-have for any work that wants to create the fantasy vibe. And honestly, I'm getting tired of watching lots of ideas copy-pasted to be one's own that even with its "special touches", it's nothing that ever breaks the bank for trying to subvert expectations, and "Yuusha, Yamemasu" starts out just being like that of humanity sending out heroes just to defeat demons so that one or the other exists. But, this premise does not stay for long, for after the world's strongest Hero has defeated the Demon Queen and her Four Great Generals, and people celebrated the hell outta it, peace prospered, and there wasn't a need of a Hero anymore. Soon after, people despise the Hero enough to label him an outcast of society for fear and mongering that his insanity of an OP power would be the next candidate for the Demon King, so they ousted the Hero in exile, leaving him the only path that he can turn to: back to the Demon Queen's quarters, and fervently requesting to be of aid to his enemy to rebuild their forces. The Demon Queen rejected his offer, but the Hero would keep trying in order to find out what is truly his calling and purpose in this undertaking. **Spoilers for the Hero MC** This Hero is Leo Demonhart, and although he looks and feels like a human being, he's in fact something much more gratifying: a bioweapon, made from an experiment that involved constellations for names and the mass production of robot-like humans to only be programmed with one purpose: "protect humanity by destroying enemies (demons)." And it's a well-known fact that robots do not display emotions a.k.a emotionless, and Leo for once was where his and this story started it all: saving humanity by destroying Demon Queen Echidna's forces, to only reverse that decision when humanity turned on him, beckoning to be his enemies' ally with the pitfall end goal to inflict karma against the very ones whom they commissioned him and his allies to do. Leo is an enigma, a mover of words where his experience as a Hero speaks for himself in its effectiveness and OP power that's not just for show, his character being so poignant and down-to-earth when you see that his life from the get-go has been nothing but like a slave shackled by chains of commands that he cannot escape unless someone ends his life to relieve him of that macabre of a burden. And I think this is what makes Leo such a juxtaposition of a character: being a programmed robot-human being, yet can converse and feel emotions just like a human being. Between knowing what's best for the Demon Lord's army that he decimated before humanity turned his back on him, and being in disguise from Echidna's sight, it's a delicate balance of playing the ruse while slowly revealing his real self towards her, putting expectations into reality. A thought-provoking OP MC that's not like your usual cut-copy-paste Hero. The Demon Lord's side is just as what you'd expect: a leader with his/her underlings and the forces beneath. And in this story that the Hero supposedly wants to quit his "profession" of Hearing, the Demon Queen Echidna, along with her Four Great Generals: the "Red Roar" Dragon General Edvard, the "Unseen Blade" Shadowless General Mernes, the "Ruthless Fang" Beast General Lily, and the "Almighty Mage" Sorcerer General Shutina. Each of the Generals serve within a cluster of demonfolk whom are similar to of or in kind, such as the animalistic servant Lili commanding the beastly creatures in the Demon Lord's army, and have your typical and sometimes weird traditions like Mernes being inflicted by humanity to be sold to child slavery, only to join Echidna's ranks to take revenge on them, or Lili's weird tradition of closeness leading to marriage. Either way, everyone works out for the betterment of the Demon Lord's army the way that is managed...or rather, MIS-managed like the way that Shutina is Echidna's clerk whose simultaneously a magic-wielding succubus. It's definitely in a state of disarray that Leo would've destroyed most of Echidna's forces, to only give his hand back to them in return, because his programmed ideology of humanity, for better or for worse, will be saved or decimated given the Demonhart series that people are blessed with to take for granted. It's a lot of soul searching for what feels right within one's eyes. Being a EMT Squared production, expect the same low budget visuals to product-place itself everywhere within the show, it does not look pretty nor interesting at all, save for the somewhat awful-looking fights. This show one of few instances where a captivating story such as this holds up against the mediocre production values, enough to retain audience viewership. If there was a plus point about this, it just had to be that the production was just barely well-enough to get the story idea to the small screen, and in this circumstance, IMO it worked. Also, some might complain that the music feels lackluster, and you'll probably be right. Despite not having heard her voice for quite sometime, Minori Suzuki still has that conviction through her vocal lengths to deliver a nice OP, while for Nao Touyama, her 2 ED songs here IMO were certainly on par with yet another of her OP song for Isekai Bookworm Season 3, but better as the halves go along contrasting light and darkness. Still a decent OST overall. Do I think that Yuusha, Yamemasu a.k.a I'm Quitting Heroing is a bad show? Yes, if you only care for the typical Hero vs. Demon Lord shenanigan that's been repeated countless times over. But where this work stood out, is being able to make me look at a different angle and gives me a train of thought, of how it would look like when roles are literally reversed, and that's where the charm of this small show feels the best: to feel human, to feel sympathy, and most importantly, to have a sense of belonging, because everyone belongs somewhere. And this is a case of the Hero, Leo Demonhart, finding a place where he truly belonged and fit into his ideal group: the Demon Lord's Army, and to officially proclaim that "I'm Quitting Heroing". This ain't great, but it isn't all bad either. A decent-to-good watch that keeps your mind thinking for being everything similar but with a difference that makes the charm.
“They had us in the first half NGL” I tend not to rate an anime on “Last episode disaster”, hence this season I pretended that the last episode of Rikekoi and Yuusha yame masu does not exist (For good reason). However, the last few episodes of Yuuyame have much more effect on the overall story hence I don't think We can avoid including this (But I definitely wanted to say this once :D). This last episode in question drives the plot to a significant degree. The plot twists and it twists hard, it's almost like Re zero episode one but extended to about the first 10 episodes, the twist isn't necessarily bad (lots of hints and foreshadowing did give it a bit of context). But certainly, if you are here for your nice laid-back slice of life ride with a bit of harem in the mix, well, the plot does get to a grey point where more serious problems like an existential crisis, suicide, and purpose occur and it’s quite the twist! I liked it, Until… It doesn't take a genius to smell the shounen within the first 10 but oh boi the last few how do I explain… oh wait I got something. BOOOM, Shounen chart TIME! Worldbuilding — Not great, a bit of exposition, every magic skill exists to make MC more OP Power up with screamfest? — none (He doesn't need that) Plot armor? —more than kirito (Oh trust me it gets too bs in the last episode) Nakama(friendship) power? — Naruto:- “Please be the next Hokage” (that last episode XD) Generic power system world and MC starts weak? — yes (then he becomes OP) Main rival? —Yes and also love interest Teacher? —yes (doesn't last more than an episode tho) Waifu? — did you mean Waifu(s) tis probably, harem The last episode could have been a great pivot point, it achieved great emotional value as well, they were 99% there and then they decided well sike bruh maybe not eh? I won't spoil it , but most would probably cringe a lot xD (Naruto part of chart is a clue) Let's just talk numbers. story(7/10) Hero is too powerful so he gets banished! Welp I do admit I have seen another with the same concept xD. The worldbuilding, commerce, and, management aspect of it was pretty solid and a good surprise. The backstory of the characters is quite good as well, I will admit to many plot conveniences and coincidences do take the fun out of it sometimes. Characters(8/10) The strongest point of this anime is, really good characters are actually affected by each other and remain true to themselves at all times. The final 2 were a bit inconsistent with Leon’s character however, he doesn't look nearly as disturbed or depressed as he is supposed to be, and his roundabout “quit hero” stuff is a bit of a facepalm. Art and animation (6/10) Generic magic circles and chants most of the time, since it isn't an actio0n anime it's not that bad. The art is pretty bland as well and most of the fantasy animes are completely indistinguishable. the animation of the OP can be misleading since it's pretty good. Sound and VA (6/10) Monologues are too long and a bit out there, since they mostly are not accompanied by a good soundtrack. The overall OST is also pretty weak and generic. The OP however is pretty good Ed is also alright. Well it is quite fun, you can give it a shot if you want some more relaxed slice of life factor with a bit of commercial stuff like Maou yuu or spice and wolf, there is a bit of drama towards the end, but the payoff isn't great, Id say 3 ep rule is a pretty solid option here
Ok so this was another anime where mc is just op but no wow moments ! well this is not an action anime so guess it's my fault for expecting some badass action ! the characters were dry it's like watching some unsaturated characters just playing their roles just for the job !the story is average cause of no real character development ! that what i felt ! there is a tag called comedy which i was genuinely hoping to make me laugh atleast but there is not a single joke that is even funny just some forced ones ! aside from thisi sticked here because main character is op and seems to have a tiny harem ! hoping that gonna be explored in the next season if that ever gonna come!so as for now it's - 5.4 stars / 10 stars .. this is just fine for one time watch and no ofense those who liked it just that i was expecting too much !
I like to give almost all seasonal animes a chance, but funny enough I immediately dropped this when I first attempted to watch this show. I am so over this recently overused theme of government simulator. I was in no mood to once again learn about supply chain management, so I initially dropped this show because of the beginning plot and meh animation. But I saw people online recommending it, so I gave it another go and I’m glad I did. This show will not wow you by any means, but the characters are likeable and the plot twists are actually well constructed. There’s definitelymuch better anime out there, but this is far from garbage.
"Leo, do you have any regrets?" -- the following is a brief paragraph or two on my overall thoughts, followed by spoilers about how twists can't always save a show and/or change their predictability. reader discretion advised. -- I have a few regrets in life, I think we all do. As you rack up years and that number since your birth continues to tick upwards linearly, more and more events get stored into your brain as something that could've gone better. The little things and the big things, you can reconcile with those demons later and soften the blow, but they always exist. My point is thatI regret watching Yuusha, Yamemasu. I'm Quitting Heroing is a sub-par fantasy show that continues to bore despite throwing viewers on a makeshift rollercoaster. The want to surprise and stun the audience is there, the passengers may even gasp once and a while and go "I didn't expect that", but when the carts finally stop working halfway through, everyone will remember it more as a hassle than as the experience itself. My analogy may only wring true for myself, but personally, I found I'm Quitting Heroing to be a slog that had a by-the-numbers beginning & end as well as some supposed inversions of the genre that couldn't save it. The 'inversions' that I'm speaking of is that this is supposed to be our modern world 3000 years in the future. Leo is ACTUALLY a human scientific experiment, the last of a line of artificial human defenders, designed to uphold harmony. Easily the best episode is an exploration of that during Leo's original fight against the demon army. It's a discussion with a demon on co-existence, it sets up a reason for him to find Echidna compelling and a good leader as she reminds him of Eibrad. A quick aside: the best episode of Heroing is still not that good. It also serves as the foundation of Leo's rebirth as he quits being a hero and joins the demon army in true formula form. He resists relationships and trust in an attempt to finally end his life when... he's told to "just disable" his programming that repeats the protection of humanity order... AND IT JUST WORKS! Centuries of existence and, at some point, his 'thought masking' was disabled so he developed an ego and this was the first time this possibility was ever considered. Don't wanna be sad? This is a case where "just don't be sad bro" works. Could've done that day one and we wouldn't have to have all this jazz. So, the majority of the show is a standard finding one's self story of Leo helping each general with their duties and a slight characterization of Leo to find out his past. He's disguised himself as 'Lord Onyx' in an attempt to show his value to Echidna without her knowing it's actually him as she holds a major distaste for the one who brought her to defeat. There feels to be countless instances of Leo about to reveal who he actually is before being interrupted by arbitrary consequence, dragging out a plot isn't something a 12 episode show should be doing at all. Then, the last few episodes are a fight that showcases each general's ability and how they get absolutely crushed by Leo followed by the turning moment for our MC where he decides to keep living which he's always wanted but that pesky off switch was ever so slightly camouflaged I guess. A show that I didn't find unique or enjoyable, one that I intend to forget and be reminded of whenever a friend teases me on the shows I've devoted time to.
For those who has a lot of patience and tolerate the type of show with fantasy drama about humans, beasts, and demons, then maybe you've stumbled upon the right place. If not, let's just say that I'm Quitting Heroing is the type of anime that reuses many of the same elements in today's anime market, the very definition of trying the same thing over and expecting different results. Trust me, with the amount of isekai these days, seeing a protagonist being banished from a party, kingdom, or general population is hardly a rare sight. That's what happened to Leo, the hero who gets banished from theirkingdom after defeating the Demon Queen Echidna and her army. With the setting taking place in a futuristic timeline, you' expect the world to be celebrating peace and prosperity. No, instead, people still live in fear of another war sparking and also suspicious of Leo himself. The fear stems from an idea that he may one day rise up to become a Demon Lord. In his position, Leo would quit as a hero and ironically decides to help Echidna rebuild her army. Watching I'm Quitting Heroing gave me the impression that the author planned this show out like a roadmap by injecting story elements related to the past, present, and future. After his exile by the king and the human kingdom, Leo made his decison to help Echidna but at the same time, also makes new alliances such as with the Heavenly Kings. These consist of a group of characters that serves at the top of echelon in Echidna's army - Steina, Lili, Melnes, and Edwald. Rebuilding an army is easier said than done so you can imagine the amount of pressure and responsibility Leo is carrying on his shoulders. The anime does it make clear that Leo is perhaps their most important asset due to the various conflicts among the Hevenly Kings themselves. From the first few episodes, Leo realizes the tremendous task at hand. The anime also makes it clear that the Heavenly Kings each have their own flaws. It's sad because it means Leo would have to carry the rebuilding job himself and he's not even an official member of Echidna's army. Speaking of which, the Heavenly Kings are filled with nothing but character flaws. Early in the show, we see how incompetent Steina and Lili can be when their plans go wrong. Despite having some natural traits, the anime makes the two characters look like tools. Melnes also gives a unfavorable impression with his shy and introvert-like personality. There's a specific episode reveals more about Melnes' personality but let's just say that he's the lonewolf type who practically lives his role as an assassin. Finally, there's Edwald who I can describe as the 'muscle' of the group. When you combine these characters together, you get an cast of oddballs that will make you roll your eyes. What about Leo? He quit being a hero but what's his real purpose now? That's a qood question to ask yourself because Leo himself seems to have lost a purpose in life. A main plot element of this show is Leo's personal journey to discover his new purpose. Being feared for his power by the very people he once fought took a toll on his psyche. Let's face it, Leo deserves respect and honor than being banished and feared. Similarly, Echidna herself has a reptuation, at least according to rumors. But upon watching this show and looking closely, it's shown that she's a relaxing character who enjoys food, company with her comrades, and even has a somewhat childish personality. When she later meets Leo, it's shown that the two can get along quite well, almost like friends. Unfortunately, circumstances obviously can't allow them to be best buddies. In later episodes, the anime's story hit its peak with Leo putting his plans into motion, secrets and revelations being revealed, and the story exploding with effects that changes their world forever. As I said before, the author really seems to have a roadmap planned out from the start. Even the director seems to have known this with the anime adaptation by planning out the first and second half of this 12-episode series. From the buildup, character presentations, and story development, it's actually somewhat clever. However, the anime still falls into a pitfall of lazy writing mostly with the lack of character development and mediocre plot. I'm Quitting Heroing may have taken some risks but it didn't take those risks to reach a level on its own. Even the animation production qualiy falls short on its feet with its average character designs. Characters looks especially generic and unoriginal with Echidna's scarlet dress and demon horns. Leo has that Kirito-esque look that you've probably seen hundreds of times from light novel adaptations. Likewise, the Heavenly Kings does have some distinctive looks but none speaks for its uniqueness. The most annoying one among the group is Lili with her childish feature and character expressions. However, I will say that one concept of the show with its timeline is mildy interesting dealing with its futuristc medieval-like setting. The anime carefully made backgrounds look like a work of art on some instances even from the beginning. If anything, I do give credit where credit is due there. I'm Quitting Heroing feels like the type of anime that got adapted because the industry wants another fantasy drama with a banished hero. We get one practically every season now so having one in Spring 2022 is a way to continue the streak. But hey, maybe if you're new to this type of genre, it can be a sweet treat. For me, this was a sight for sore eyes.
IMO this anime does not the attention it deserves. There’s a deeper meaning to the story with very relatable advice given on every episode. The animation may be subpar but I think the voice does does a great job is bringing across the emotions. It’s a breath of fresh air to all the boring isakai anime that tend to make it through each season. We have a hero who’s over his job after 3000yrs. He’s lost his sense of purpose and have decided there only one way to retire. Which this anime is available more popular platforms than HDive. Highly recommend. Yes it’s a bitof a slow burn but know it gets better as each episode goes.
The anime tells the story of a hero who is disappointed by humanity and wants to join the demon king's army. At first the plot seems very simple and boring but the anime shows you even though its plot is simple with good design and character development, it makes a very entertaining anime. The animation is quite decent, the soundtrack accompanies well and the best thing it has is the development of characters, it takes the time to constantly tell the comtives of each character, it takes its time to show you their motivations, it is very well done, it takes the time necessary andon top of that it is not boring at all. After all, the anime is a story of life, very well constructed, I recommend it if you like the genre, it's interesting, there are 12 chapters so if you want to see something short and entertaining, I recommend it.
Unexpectedly a nice series! Story: ❤❤❤❤ /5 Music: ❤❤❤❤ /5 Voice Actor: ❤❤❤❤ /5 Animation: ❤❤❤ /5 the series is slow paced at first but pick up after the 9th episode. which means you need to watch this atleast until the 9th episode! at first i thought this is gonna be some overdone isekai, but the emotion it brought in the main problem and the closure are done surprisingly well. we as the watcher, we are learning about the character from zero, which give that pleasant surprise in a story. i particularly love the tittle of this anime. i thought it's just a statement for his resolve in joining the maouarmy, but i realize that's not the case. (i can't tell u why tho) It was a good watch! I don't know how it is for people who wait every week for the series, but for me, i got it done in a day, and I'm super happy it's a great series. I mean, it even succeeds in making me write this review, so.. note: I saw many people compare this to the shield anime, tbh, I like this more hehe~
This anime is more about being a good company employee. Aka a company drone. While the context is about demon and so on, the MC (but not the whole cast) is a typical person who suffers from a mental illness knows as workaholic. However, since this is a fictive work, of course the MC shows 0% issues of why workaholism is a mental illness. Well, at least not directly. So what does indirectly mean? 1: lack of self ASIDE from "I want to be recognised by boss and make my company the best" that on it's own is of course, not an issue, but the idea is thatthis is the only exception, nothing else. 2: While in the anime, the MC organize things to work as best as possible, if you where to ignore that the author intentionally made things to work out, you essentially have someone who constantly manipulate others in order to make them the increase their value as a company drone. Aka tons of anime have demon army and how to manage them. But they all have their ups and down, this anime? MC is trying to make everyone a company drone, while ignoring how those people are 3: A even more indirect indirect thing: Everyone is seen as a company drone or an inefficient company drone. This can been even better understood if, except for special instances (like monster who fly), you replace the "monster" you see with a human. Aka all non main characters are humans but look like monster, and when I say humans I actually mean company employees. Yep, this is the idea, almost non stop, everyone is simple company employees who look like monster but are no different from humans who are working for a company 4: Story is a massive lecture or training on how to be a better employee, manager, HR, and so on.... 5: While the anime is not bad, it definitely is not good exactly because anything that could be good, are dismissed by MC exactly because they are not needed for a company to work, as such everyone needs to chill and think how to contribute better to the company called demon army. At least it gives a good example how a good employee trainer should be. Even if in real life this isn't possible, heck the best part of the anime is when the non MC characters show how unrealistic and closed minded a workaholic's "plan" (manipulation strategies) are
I will clear one thing. I am not fan of reviews saying 'watch it till episode 100' or 'i know it's not good, but it gets better after 10 episodes', but that applies to animes that are clearly bad and whole premise of sticking to it is about watching some cool one episode long scene or some random plot. Is this the case with Yuusha, Yamemasu? It is clearly not one of them. Enough with that. Yuusha, Yamemasu. I will be another review that will tell you THIS IS partly an Isekai, but you SHOULD give it a chance. Personaly i don't really think even first episodes werebad, and i can't quite understand why people would stop after 3rd episode to just write a bad review and move one. We meet our MC, he joins bad guys, and as first action he has to help the generals, natural progression you could think, but i guess not enough for some people~ (Especially we do not have to wait long for first 'plot twist' and see how well... established? our MC is). It doesn't take long until anime shows that every single information drop we had, scene, everything that drove us until last episodes, had a meaning, meaning and plot behind it. But that's not the sole reason why you should be watching this. This anime does something rare even outside Isekai genre: it makes you think and is not pushy about it. There is a moment when whole show goes into way different direction, includes heavy subjects and what's most importantly, does great transition towards it. The train of thoughts is real and also having a chance to see stuff happen from opposite side is refreshing (maybe not original, but still refreshing (and to be honest what is original these days~). This is not perfect anime, it is not close to it as it contains flaws on various steps either with not amazing art style, or some story moments. (Music is actually quite good! Especially second ending. Sound scene overall, even voice acting felt quite high level). But when i score an anime, i put it first trough most important questions to give it a 10: Did i enjoy it? Did i have a good time with it and time has quickly passed? Did it have any minor issues i didn't like and it destroyed the full experience for me? And i can with full honesty give it that 10. It may not be perfect, but surely i enjoyed it, heck i even cried. This experience worked with me. It deserves my 10. Especially if you watched all your favourite shows, give it a try, it is a lesser gem of the season. It may not be a 10 from you, but as long as you are open to Isekai genre/like it, it will be easly time well spent for you too!
Heading into the season I had very little expectations coming into this anime. I'm Quitting Heroing was just supposed to be just another time-filler seasonal, wasting 25 minutes on something that wasn't going to be too impactful. And for the first half of this anime, it was exactly what I was expecting, just another time-waster seasonal. Until it wasn't The second half of this anime takes a dramatic turn, where it delves deep into the main protagonist's "broken identity", where the protagonist's personality flaws get thrust into the spotlight. The anime completely slows down pacing in the second half of the anime to completely focus on characterdevelopment, making viewers emphasize with and understand who Leo is. Hell, there's even an entire episode that entirely focuses on one interaction that the MC is involved in. The strong character development really only makes the finale episode that much more emotional at the end. The second half of this anime also makes the OP/ED choices seem genius throughout. In the beginning, the OP/ED might seem like Generic OP A and Generic ED B, but the sudden shift of tone really makes you reflect on the anime theme choices, especially the OP. Overall this anime definitely was the most unexpected seasonal for me, as I came here expecting absolutely nothing, and this ended up being one of my favorite seasonals. What begins as just another fantasy really turns into a profound viewing experience at the end.
The premise of this series boils down to a single question: “What happens to the hero after they win?” You may want the legendary hero around when there's an army of invading demons led by an all-powerful Demon Lord, but the moment the hero is triumphant, the whole situation changes. Now you have someone powerful enough to take down the ultimate evil—without the evil part of the equation. This begets fear in the general population which then turns to anger. Soon they will want him gone—if not dead then at least out of sight and out of mind. This is doubly true in the case ofLeo who is a hero so overpowered, he single-handedly took out not only the Demon Lord's army but the Demon Lord and her four generals as well. So what does he do when he is abandoned by all those he worked to save? He sets off to join the remnants of the Demon Lord's army. After all, they will surely accept him since they've seen how effective he is—won't they? It's a solid premise with a lot of potential for both comedy and drama. But in setting it up, this whole thing becomes little more than a giant backstory dump. We meet the Demon Lord (however briefly) and get introduced to the four generals. Each of the four is walking fantasy stereotypes but this is played for comedy by showing how easily Leo beat them by exploiting their obvious weaknesses. Normally that alone is not enough to carry the episode, but thankfully Leo himself is able to pick up the slack. Leo is a deeply flawed person. He has ungodly amounts of power and an ego to match. Because of this, he just expects things to work out in his favor and seems more than a little confused when they don't (though he rebounds quickly). But what makes Leo interesting is the simple fact that he doesn't seem to care about anything. He doesn't care about his fellow humans or the things they hold dear. He likewise doesn't care about the demons and all the pain and suffering he has personally put them through. He doesn't even really seem to care about himself. Even when he is exiled, he doesn't get angry or go on a killing spree as the people fear, he just kind of becomes aimless. It's not like he forgives the people for casting him aside but it seems to roll off of him like something that can't be helped. This is equal parts intriguing and unsettling. Behind the jokes, we have this mystery of a broken man and what made him become this way. overall it's a pretty decent one so far, I would recommend u if u r into this stuff.
The show has a great plot/story to tell but it's heavily ruined by a bad writing. There are so many things that could have been written better and to add up with how the characters feels so bland. When I try to find it from a comedy side, there is not a single joke that's funny. I also tried to be positive that maybe, MAYBE the fight scene would be good but, NO. For the animation and art, it's below average. I found myself quite often multi tasking while trying to finish this show because it come to the point that "why you feels theneed to write this scene? What does it contribute to?". There are like so many scene that are being tell at the wrong time as if it trying to give "hint" to the audience. This is one of the show that is trying so hard to be great but failed at it miserably. IMO, there's no reason for you to watch this, so I wouldn't recommend it.
I read too many reviews who said that this anime was garbage and unique at first but became a typical generic isekai anime later and decided to drop it. But still i had a feeling that this anime will not be as the reviews say about it so i gave it a try and i was not disappointed. Sure the anime was unique and common generic later, but at the end it was really worth it. It was a little depressing and satisfying ending. I won't talk about it's story here but if you are choosing to watch it or not then i will say it'sworth a watch.
This was pretty good, and was exactly what I hoped it would be, light, easy to watch, and a bit of fun This is an anime in the fantasy setting, with monsters, demons, and heroes, it's something that is clearly stated, so if you don't like that kind of thing, why would you even watch this? This isn't an action adventure series, after all this is set after all the fighting has occurred, there is some minor action, but this is more of a comedy type, and I hate to use the term 'slice of life' as you typically think of school anime for those, but asthis is more their day to day antics as they seek to rebuild the demon army, it sort of applies. The story is decent, the characters are good and given some development, the art and OST are decent, and as said it's light hearted and pretty fun. It's not without its flaws, but it's a competent enough series. I do understand why some people don't like this, or won't like it, because it tried to be different and stand out by adding in its twist, and in that regard it reminded me of 'Banished from the Hero's Party' however this is done better as it feels far more integrated and less of a directional switch. If you like stuff like Combatants Will Be Dispatched, then you will probably like this.
Well maybe this is my first time watching anime and reading the novel which is a little different from the others, another isekai fantasy, it's like various references are used and make the author's own story, doesn't follow the same cycle of isekai fantasy as others. the interesting thing here first is the character, the hero character and the demon queen, seeing them in the future it will be fun after the former hero (quit) officially joins demon army. ah btw this is a small spoiler but if it bothers you I'm very sorry. Demon King Echidna's two underlings that attract all sorts of things, this makesme laugh even though I feel the same way or become a Leo character here. I understand Leo's annoyance with his Four Pillars underlings lol. These two stories, like the beginning, seem to bring various references and their own amazing ideas, but I don't really like the dialogue that doesn't fit. if I say Like that Pearl Harbor Jack Sparrow movie Her characteristics are unique like underlings but these are more lively. third, it's the sound, backsound, Background and Opening and Ending Song, it's perfect, there's no need to comment, let alone the insert animation is amazing, all incorporated into the story. and lastly Animation, well don't get your hopes up if it's Kadokawa, I would be more hopeful if something like Aniplex Subsidiaries brought it up. I mean Animation for Fights/Quarrels, but Visual Effects and Sound Effects are no problem. So overall I really enjoyed the whole thing, the progress.
when i saw this show last march while looking for upcoming shows to watch, i thought this was another generic fantasy anime (a genre which i do like, hence why i started this show in the first place) well surprise surprise it's not! i really wouldn't write this review if this show is mediocre considering it's my first ever review in MAL. i really like the OP MC trope in general even outside anime, definitely my top trope ever, so maybe take this review with a grain of salt. and like i said this is my first review so take this into consideration. OH andpls be aware that i have some memory issues so i might forget some (good or bad) things, im typing all these out of memory. story, 10/10 i may be or may be not exaggerating with this rating but this is definitely one of the best fantasy anime when it comes to the actual story. first of all the plot itself is very unusual in the anime scene, also specifically in the fantasy genre. it's not that common but it's also not THAT rare, that's why this caught my attention in the first place. in the first few episodes, it was kinda meh. some parts it was boring, some parts it's too good. the problem is the consistency. when you get too bored, almost dropping the show, here comes suddenly a great episode. the "plot twists" were so good too, and how they told the story. irdek how to describe like in very specific adjectives but as i said, i really liked the story. one of the best in the fantasy genre. liked it that i wrote this review. and yk what's another good thing about this? no excessive fan service! no unnecessary pervert characters for "comedy", no misogyny or problematic jokes or anything of the sort! everything is clean!! art, 6/10 meh. everything was mid tbh. added extra points bc of the character designs, especially mernes. he was one of the reasons why i didnt drop this show if im being honest. animation was bad, but improved in the last few episodes with that final fight. in some scenes the animation and art was so bad that i had to skip some seconds out of cringe. in some cases i cant really take the show seriously on how bad it looked, one of the reasons on why i almost dropped the show. but all in all the animation is just, the bare minimum. that's why nothing stood out to me, and ive seen worse. the art in the second ED too was great. love it. nothing else stood out to me (out of memory). all in all character design carried this category. i really loved it. sound, 6/10 yeah opening and ending songs are your average generic anime song you hear. BUT! that second ending song????? that was so good?????? that was de messiah by nao toyama https://open.spotify.com/track/3KnUNThgGLUcGMTiOtyPYl?si=85ffdd6b5dbb4f77 considering i listen to all kinds of music this really stood out. you really dont see this song genre everyday, and they made it perfect. i can imagine just travelling at night in an empty highway with this playing. and to think that i rarely even like anime songs, last one i liked was in fall of 2021 with bang by egoist and laika by nanawo akari, and this season along with de messiah is who said we are idiots by dialogue+. music and sound in the anime itself was mid. nothing stood out to me. the second ED carried this category. character, 8/10 honestly i dont even know what to judge with this category,, "character" is too vague. but im still gonna try to review. out of all characters, i really liked leo's personality the most, with mernes in second. they really made him so likeable. him being funny sometimes but also respectable and serious at times too. i cant point out specifically why i like him but you cant really hate him for no reason, if you do youre just seeking clout trust me youre not "quirky" or "different" youre just embarrassing yourself stop it. in character development mernes takes the crown. he really grew so much in just a 12 episode series. he really went from mid to best boi. i really loved the way he really tries to improve himself genuinely. next one is lily. i really loved how in her episode she really tries to help, i was under the impression that she's just another some generic anime child until that episode. and i LOVE clingy children. she's definitely one of the good ones. most kids are too annoying that i just want to... yk... the rest of the characters are unfortunately just average or below. leo, mernes, and lily carried this category enjoyment, 8/10 as i said, the show is too inconsistent, hence why i took away a point. the art and animation was bad, so i took away another point. but i still rather enjoyed the show all in all. some episodes i cried, i crew, and i crode. i rarely even sob while watching anime, cant even remember the last time i did. idk what else to say so ill just end it here overall, 8/10 tbh i was planning to give this a 10/10 but it changed when i wrote this review,,, but all in all it's a good show! if they gave this show a better budget then this would be soooo much better because the story has SO much potential but they ruined it. good thing they delivered the story properly or else this would be your average generic fantasy anime. but tbh if the story is the only good thing here well this show would be bad but thank god there are some good things in other categories too, really made the show better. the story really carried this show. TLDR the story is 10/10 everything else was mid but i still encourage yall to watch this show. remember this is my first review and i have some memory issues so i may forgot some things to add,, that's all
I Only watched because I saw an AMV of episode 10 :/ (Nice bait) A little cliche and predictable at times. I feel like I've seen this type of show before... I'm actually surprised I finished it, but then again it took over a month. If you're new to this type of genre you actually might enjoy this show. Unfortunately for me, I'm in Leo's shoes, despite being a sucker for the fantasy genre, this show was very underwhelming. I actually thought this was an isekai, they really had me with them flashbacks 6/10. Stgis was hard, but Steina was best girl ;)
