It is the year 2004 AD, and pandemonium breaks as a mysterious frog-like alien race fills the sky with UFOs—or so 12-year-old Fuyuki Hinata dreams. Coincidentally, Sergeant Keroro, leader of a preliminary squad for the Keronian invasion of Pekopon—the alien name for Earth—begins his mission by invading Fuyuki's home. After subduing the boy and his sister, Keroro plans to reunite with his comrades and return to the mothership to repair his invaluable invasion device, the Kero Ball. Unfortunately, he receives word that headquarters has abandoned his unit's retrieval due to an unprecedented issue that forced the rest of the Keronians to flee.
Consequently, Keroro is forced to stay at the Hinata residence together with the friendly, starry-eyed Fuyuki; his athletic, short-tempered sister Natsumi; and their hardworking, attractive mother Aki. Now stuck until further notice, Keroro and his platoon spend each day plotting world domination, but are thwarted each and every time by various unexpected factors. Nevertheless, as they live alongside humans, they learn to treat them as friends and allies, forming comedic yet meaningful connections that make their lives on Earth worthwhile.

This my friends is the only Mecha Anime that counts.The Laughs, the feels, the action, it truly has it all. It has guided me on theway to be a better man, and to this day I still follow the way of the frog diligently. More than an anime you'll be looking at the very essence of life. Keroro Gunsou is more worthy of an oscar than Leonardo F* Dicaprio. Truly a work of art. I am NOT kidding, this is ART in its purest form, the Joconde ? pff, ridiculous... Watch it, and next time someone at a fancy art gallerie asks you 'so, what'syour favorite piece of art ?" with their ridicuous snobby accent you'll look at them straight in the eyes and as tears roll down your cheeks you'll simply say "Keroro Gunsou". And thus I shall bless it with a perfect score of 5/7.

Keroro Gunso. What in space can I possibly say about Keroro Gunso? I'll start by saying that there's not one character that I dislike in this whole series. Even ones I didn't warm to at first eventually have episodes that make me not just like, but adore them. And boy, does this show have a huge cast of main, secondary, and minute characters, all of whom are bursting with charm. When I finished episode 358 -- yes, I watched every single one, my longest anime to date! -- my upper lip wobbled and my eyes genuinely filled with tears. Keroro Gunso is like watching afamily grow all together, a flourishing friend group who all love and understand each other despite their many differences. And even though there's many situations that go unresolved in this show, like various unrequited romances and the like, it's one of those things I'll happy ponder on for as long as Keroro Gunso is at the forefront of my mind.
I don't think this is an anime about a group of frogs who try to invade planet Earth, as much as this show wants us to believe. I really do think at the heart, this show is about friendship. And I know that sounds cheesy, but I think this goofy little comedy about frogs and middle schoolers really does have a lot to say about how when it all comes down to it, we should focus more on the appreciation and love for one another that we have, rather than focusing on the negatives, or the details about someone that you don't like.
Every character in this show -- even the semi-one-note characters like Kogoro and Lavie -- have so much heart that they're impossible not to love. And when you put them all together, you get so many interactions that warm your heart, and make you laugh and cry. Even though pretty much everything has a comedic slant, you still feel so much for them. The story arcs that this anime takes you through may be simple, but they are incredibly engaging. Even after 358 episodes, I still felt like I could follow Gunso and the others all over Pekopon for 300 more. Heck, I miss them just writing this review.
I recommend this anime if you'd just like some simple joy in your day. Something funny, something sweet, something light-hearted, to take your mind off of things. Sometimes a little bit chaotic and (lovingly) obnoxious, but enough to make you smile! I loved it so much, I can't believe it's over. Truly a gem of the early 2000s.

[Content warnings for Sgt. Frog: General anime pervy-ness, nothing too major. An adult frog alien has a crush on a 14-year old human girl, if that's bothersome. Mostly for comedy though.] Overall: 10/10 Usually I would base my overall rating off of the mean score of each aspect provided, but I love this anime way too much to give it anything lower than a 10. This was the first anime I ever watched as a kid, and it's the only anime that still makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it. Definitely the funniest anime I've ever seen without exaggeration. It's definitely not for everyone,but in my opinion there'll never be anything as perfect as Sgt. Frog lol
Story: 5/10
The story sort of gets lost throughout the series. I mean, half of this anime is composed of filler episodes, but the main storyline is just fine. Frog looking aliens come to Earth in an attempt to conquer humans and it turns out they're very unintimidating and terrible at conquering. It's hilarious, but basic at best. Anyways, it's been years since I've watched hundreds of the episodes, so take my word with a grain of salt.
Art: 6/10
The art's really standard. The thing that makes me set it above mediocre is just the character designs for the frogs. They're such funny, iconic designs. The actual human characters are also really cute too. Other than that, there's nothing really remarkable about the art for this anime.
Sound: 10/10
I LOVE THE OPENINGS AND ENDINGS FOR THIS ANIME. I won't even lie, they're in my playlist unironically. Every song for this anime is an absolute banger. Besides the music, the English dub voice actors are really amazing. They are seriously hilarious. Every single joke lands. My favorite is definitely the narrator though, he really just ties everything together.
Character: 7/10
A lot of the characters are stereotypical or strangely written, but I don't think there's a single bad character. They're all hilarious and likable even if they're rude or mean. The dynamic between Kerero and the Hinata family is super funny, and the dynamic between Kerero and the ARMPIT Platoon is even funnier. There's not much I don't like about these characters, they're just nothing amazing.

My love for this show knows no bounds. I will always enjoy rewatching it no matter how old I am. I don't think a lot of people would like this show, especially if you take anime sort of seriously since this anime is anything but, but for me this anime is just perfect in all the right ways.
