It is the early 21st century, and mankind is doomed. Due to a mysterious virus that steals the essence of human life, humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction with only one hope for salvation: the blood of a vampire. Vampires have closely guarded the key to curing the virus for several years, which has led to an immense rift between them and humans and the world's descension into chaos. A vampire named Duo, having leaked the secret to saving humanity, is now considered a traitor to his race, and the powerful vampire Zieg is on his trail. However, due to Zieg's sense of duty, his heart is torn: should he kill the man who betrayed his people, or will his personal history with Duo sway him to have a change of heart? Legend of Duo cannot be explained with mere words, for it is something out of this world. A feast to your eyes, like a fish still twitching with the last breath of it's life, as you impale it with your mighty fork and then shove it into your eye socket. A true feast, like no other. Of sound, what a glorious composition, smoothly flowing in the insides of your head, tuning your brain to enjoy. Oh how could they, only one of the voice actors rose to fame, for all of them clearly deserve it. Such a waste. I have watched Legend of Duo numerous times, andstill I find new nuances in it every time I watch it. Marvelous. It is one's duty to watch this piece of masters, and it only takes one hour. Not like it matters, because the immersion is so deep, you won't even notice it. Legend of Duo is love, Legend of Duo is life.
Vampires in anime are, surprisingly for me, few and far between, with the biggest standout being Hellsing. So when I discovered Legend of Duo had vampires, I figured I could at least give it a try. After all, what's the worst that could happen? I found out how bad it could truly get in just one hour. Where do I begin? For starters, the animation is pretty pathetic. Every single trick in the book is used, and none of them prove to be useful. Still shots and long sweeping pans? Check. Camera shaking? Check. Large supplies of reused stock character images with only the mouths moving?Check yet again. Every visual cue screams low budget. I will, however, give this anime one thing. The static art, which is frequently seen throughout the series, is rather nice and detailed. It's a shame that it has to be paired with such attrocious animation. Other low budget anime, such as Violinist of Hamlin, are at least able to make up for the lack of animation with a moving and engaging storyline. LoD, however, cannot accomplish the same, though one can say that this is because each episode is only five minutes long. Too much story is crammed into too little time, making the series feel downright rushed and sloppy in execution. I found myself struggling to care about what was happening to the characters on the screen, not to mention their names afterwords. The music used in LoD did nothing to help, with what seemed like only two tracks being played in each episode: one for intensity and one for drama. To put it simply, Legend of Duo is nothing short of awful. Never before in an anime did five minutes seem like an eternity. Perhaps this is the reason why vampires don't make more appearances in anime.
The story is original, well-considered and very detailed. The episodes are only 5 min/ep, so the whole anime series is only one hour. The fact that it's so short doesn't have any effect on the clarity of the story. The dialogs are poetic. The art is amazing. Especially the dying is nice. I've never seen an anime or movie in which where dying is so well exposed. (When humans die of the disease od death there's this zombie-like shot of their last moment, and when vampires die they fade in red dust like glowing coals.) I usually like more evil characters, but the characters are beautifuland their personalities fit the anime. This anime reminded me of my fav movie Interview With A Vampire. The vampires in this anime have compasion as well as danger in their eyes. The only bad thing i can come up with about this anime is that there are not more episodes (The last episode even says "to be continued", so if anyone knows if there are more eps coming or why they decided not to, please message me!) All in all, it's a perfect (vampire) anime, and I strongly reccomand watching it!
With all the yaoi baiting, angsting, and forced sexual tension implicit in the tropes of the modern vampire shows being bandied around nowadays, there's sweet recourse in my heart knowing that everything there is to hate about this particular genre is contained in this one, concise, hour-long package. I hesitate to call this thing “anime”, since there's hardly any true animation. It's more like a middling-paced slide show presentation, spruced up with flashy light effects and recycled sounds. Talking heads and panning still screens are bad enough, but some scenes, like sliding bodies and awkwardly moving heads, made me suspicious whole pictures were just being tiltedor moved slightly to simulate action, instead of, y'know, actually hassling the show's animators to draw anything. To be completely honest, I wasn’t really paying attention to this televisual cancer all the time, so the finer details of plot or character motivations, little as they were, might be lost to me. Instead, I’d imagine such scenarios occurring elsewhere in this show's lovingly crafted world: Doctor: I’m sorry. There's no way to make this easier. You have the Disease of Death. Patient: …? Disease of Death? What kind of illness...? What are the symptoms? Doctor: You die. It's actually not the Disease of Death that plagues this production, but an insidious kind of commitment to ambiguity and laziness that made me want to put a drill into my head multiple times. Yet, there were other moments of ragingly inappropriate actions or sheer ridiculous sound effects that made me roar with laughter. In short, if you've got an hour, a cooler of beer, and an urge to kill some brain cells (or 2 of the 3), give The Legend of Duo a whirl before you go to the toilet and shit out something better.
-INTRODUCTION- I liked the promotional image and been meaning to watch this series for a long time, and was actually looking forward to it. But I was rather disappointed. ^^; -STORY- 5/10 The story is okay but extremely predictable. I did not even have to wonder how everything will turn out, it was that obvious. I did enjoy some of the side stories and flashbacks they managed to cram into an hour long series (each episode is only five minutes). It could have been a better story if it wasn't so short and so cliche. There is also a cliffhanger at the end, hinting that Legend of Duomight continue, but I think they just threw that in to grab the viewer's attention at the last moment; I honestly don't see what is there to continue, nor do I even want to know. ^^; -CHARACTERS- 4/10 The characters are unbelievably flat and stereotypical, most of their actions are predictable. Duo is portrayed as a villain for some reason, even though he tried to save humanity. I never did understand why he had to be punished for telling them the "secret". Zeig is a typical good guy who fights for justice; he apparently lacks his own sense of reasoning because he goes to punish Duo, his best friend, on someone's orders (some vampire lord I guess). There are also a couple of side characters whose purpose I'm not sure about, aside from interfering with the two main characters all the time. And lastly, there is next to none character development, except a little insight on how Duo and Zeig's friendship began. -ART/ANIMATION- 6/10 I loved the character designs, which is probably why I was drawn to that promotional image. If there was a Legend of Duo artbook, I would gladly have it. But the fun ends here. The animation is quite hideous to say the least. There are a lot of still frames and flashy gradient backgrounds. The characters hardly move at all, and I noticed that a lot of the same still images were used over and over on different backgrounds. The death scenes (of humans) were done rather nicely in comparison to the rest of the show; at least these had actual animation. -SOUND- 6/10 The sound wasn't that bad. I liked the music during the tragic scenes, it was quite fitting. The rest of the show had some weird techno-like tunes playing on the background, and I grew tired of it rather quickly. Overall, the "soundtrack" if I dare to call it that, was on the same level as the rest of this anime. --- It had potential, but I guess the production budget was too small. Since it'd only take an hour of your time to watch it, I don't think it would hurt you. But don't expect anything great out of it.
Do you wonder how could this anime get rated both as abysmal and a masterpiece at the same time? It's because it's so different, yet in a way similar to other animes. Each episode is only 5 minutes long, and although there is action in almost every one, it mostly focuses on monologues and talking. It presents quite interesting topics to think about, though some may view the placed questions unaswered in the end, like in certain books - which does not subtract from its charm, unless you're one of the people who need to have everything answered. Rating: I think the art is outsanding, it maybe a bit special (you'll see), but the characters are gorgeous. Even though they may be simple (but certainly not flat!), it helps portray the story and flesh it out, so that feels like some anime from the 80s-90s. It wouldn't have the place to make them unbelievable complex anyway. Some of the music is catchy and it helps create the atmosphere. The story itself is good in that it makes you think and is really a tale - that sort after when it is finished, it leaves you with a faery tale feeling. Or a deep myth. Guide: I think this should be watched one episode at a time like it was made to and not all at once, as it will make you appreciate and understand the story much more, as each episode will leave a greater impact.
Watching all of "The Legend of Duo" only takes about an hour, because each of the episodes is only about five minutes long. Even for a web-released short-short series, "Duo" looks very cheaply made, and the weaknesses of the production are many. First, the actual animation is extremely limited, to the point where many scenes are really just narration over still frames. All the characters are complete ciphers and the dialogue can really make those five minute episodes feel much, much longer. Still, you can't say the creators weren't ambitious, as they managed to cram in several side stories and flashbacks.Would "Duo" have been better if it had been made on a bigger budget by people who knew what they were doing? Well, I doubt it could be worse.
Dear God, Why did you let them create this? This anime is so bad it makes you want to put the creators' out of their misery. Let's start with the fact that each episode is only five minutes long, you can't get into it because it's over before it starts, so this is very annoying. The storyline is interesting but not thought out correctly. The animation is shotty at best, you can tell they had a really tiny budget which makes you wonder why this project even got a green light. I apparently got a good copy of this series because I didn't find the sound ear-shattering. At leastmost of the characters are pretty. Overall, this series is too short, with a too small budget and poor planning.
Kami-sama... why you let those people do this... Really. For an anime lasting for less than hour to be able to to such things to a person... this one really made me worried about my life and asking myself why I'm doing this to me? It's not just bad one. It's really awfully, epicly stupid. There's some kind of vampire story, which sounds very nice and catches the eye. But most of the time (which is less than hour)is given to stupid talks, which doesn't tell us what the heck it's going on, what happened in the past or what it's going to happen. And theworst of all it's that in the end there's still a sign "To be continued...". This puts Legend of Duo on the Everest of unfinished stories in anime... and not only. Which makes me to hate the "story". The characters are drawn pretty nice, but this ANIME looks more like picture drama. May be even it's a picture drama, because there's nothing but changing pictures and few flashes here and there, which isn't very good for anime. The sounds it's there and doesn't make any impression. Yeah, not even bad one, which, may be, it's a bless from the creators. Same goes for the characters. The only thing you'll remember after watching this it's that the characters are some kind of vampires or something, that are like lovers, but not exactly. Nothing unseen or unhated already. If there's some enjoyment in losing one hour of your live, feel free to do it, but I'll say it only once - STAY AWAY FROM THIS. It's not just bad. It's not even stupid. It's the worst thing after yaoi, that every normal person could see.
Deep, philosophical and misunderstood, THIS IS DUO LEGEND. !!!!! SPOILER!!!!! PLEASE DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED, MAY RUIN YOUR EXPERIENCE When some peasants murder an innocent woman in a selfish search for a cure for their deadly disease, Zieg exclaims they are infected with something worse than virus of death...BLEW MY MIND! The whole time was in under our nose and we weren't able to realize! The dictomy of good and evil doesn't matter when you have to choose between your own life or the others life, who's bad? who's good? We can not answer, because of Duo's fault, he twisted the human soul in somethingthat we can't recognize, it's brilliant. You may think that the slide-animation is bad...You're ultimately wrong! Is just that you are intoxicated wiht the mainstream bullshit! The static frames serves as a feature of the script to emphasize the expressions very well done by mobanimation, if it reminds you of a hentai it's just coincidence or your disturbed mind. Other incredible point, is that this masterpiece is only ONE hour long, frankly that's incredible how they were able to fit this whole masterpiece in a such small time. For some reason, when i gave a score of 20 for this amazing show, the MAL only shows the "2" what a shame, the score system is fuckying broken. But anyway don't be mischieved, this show is nothing bellow a 20. Thanks for reading, and go watch this masterpiece.
Oh boii, just finished this schlock and it gave me diarrhea, but my point isn't that it is such an abhorrent piece of junk that it affects you on a physical level, it's just the bland, boring, extremely predictable kind of bad which required me to drink lots of coffee in order to get through this one hour worth of tedious content. Every single department in this show is below average in terms of quality and describing it as platitude would be an understatement on the cliche scale. The "animation" is for most of the part still frames, the lip sync completely out of place, evenin "high definition" it is quite blurry, the character designs are lazy at best , the main character Duo (pronounced like DIO, Dio sure would be revolted) looks like a carbon copy of freaking Mikasa Ackerman or is it the contrary since Legend of Duo has been out since 2005? Maybe the creator of AoT owes some explanations. The sound is nonexistent for most of the part or is just so generic that I couldn't be bothered to notice it, the voice acting lacks any trace of expressiveness, not that this would be the major turn-off regarding this hopeless series. I could simply describe the 'story' and characters as the epitome of blandness, cause it isn't even the type of schlock which is so bad that is good, it simply wastes an hour of your life effortlessly throwing into your face the most repetitive and generic elements in the whole history of vampire tales. If you were by any chance lured in by the shounen ai tag, you should know that you won't even get that, not remotely, in the respective area you could pick anything else but this. You could use the hour that I have stamped on watching this doing absolutely anything else, this isn't even that one kind of once in a while so bad that is good shit, it's just utterly mediocre and you won't get anything slightly positive out of it, unless you make the effort to stay awake throughout it drinking lots of coffee and therefore rushing to the toilet and cleaning your colon, but you could skip the watch in this regard nonetheless.
Legend of Duo is boring. It's one of the most groan-worthy shows I've ever seen, which really says something seeing as every episode is only 5-minutes long. While watching this I was seriously groaning and yawning halfway through, so about 30-minutes in. Here's the plot: In this world dying isn't as simple as old age or puncturing an organ, in this world people spontaneously decompose within seconds. That's dumb, but let's keep going, the only way to prevent this 'disease of death', as they call it, is to drink vampire blood and you'll be able to live forever and so they create a guild of sortsto hunt Vampires for their blood. I'll give it some credit that's pretty cool. Too bad the main Vampire Hunter we follow is simultaneously the worst and best character in the show, he is a total tool, he's great. Other than Duo, I don't remember anybodies name. Oh yeah, and it also both Vampires are gay. The only reason I don't go more in-depth is because I honestly can't remember anything that happened past the basics. It was that boring and uninteresting The absolute worst part about the show is that it isn't as hilariously bad as Garzey's Wing, and it's entirely unmemorable. In short, it's terrible, even the joke dub Digibro did for the series sucks, more bearable but sill awful. Other 'bad' shows have some purpose in a community like ours, whether to torture our friends with Pupa or Boku no Pico. To analyze the faults and learn, like with the Asterisk War, hell some might even give a good laugh like the previously mentioned Garzey's Wing. But please, please, please don't give this any attention. It doesn't deserve it, you're better off watching any of the other shows I mentioned in this review, at least you won't fall asleep watching them, you may even laugh at how bad they are. But this, this is just the worst.
Legend of Duo is bad. That much would be obvious, if you looked at the review score. However, it's bad in a way I find quite fascinating. Animation is a difficult field, and when I look at LoD, when I see how many corners somebody had to cut to get an even remotely coherent product out the door, I'm left wondering why this was the form the show ultimately took. What incredible disconnect had to exist, between vision and reality, that made the product that found its way into my hands so catastrophically inept? LoD seeks to tell a dark, suspenseful story about a vampireout to destroy his sire, as mankind crumbles around him. The artwork and character design speak of ambition, of a story that *needed* to be told. And yet... Episodes are only five minutes long, and the show seems to strain under the stress of even doing that much. Fight scenes are resolved in a handful of moves and use jump cuts to mask the fact that animating somebody changing poses is almost beyond the show's capabilities. Nobody moves, is the main problem. The artwork may be fine, but it's static. The show seems, from an outside glance, to be the result of a marginally competent artist running afoul of the many, many problems that come with taking still images and porting them over to a full animation. There is an overreliance on tweening, on taking an image and translating it across the screen without interstitial frames to give movement weight or realism. It gives the whole thing the feel of a mid-2000s independent animation made in Flash. See, once that idea got into my head, I couldn't get it out. Legend of Duo would have fit right at home on the Newgrounds Flash Portal circa 2004 when it was released. The fight scenes are ripped straight from the Xin playbook; overly ambitious setups that fall apart once they're expected to actually be made. The 5-minute length would fit in well on a nascent Web2 platform and perfectly encapsulates that indie animator feel of "wrapping things up quickly once the thrill of making a thing starts to be replaced by the tedium of having to actually do it." The plot of the show (revolving around a one-sided depiction of humanity as broken and irredeemable and protagonists that act aloof at each other while wearing cool outfits) is exactly the kind of teenage edgy shit that fucking *thrived* on Newgrounds. If LoD was released on Newgrounds, it would have easily been a cult classic, uncritically loved by fans for its above-average still art and ambitious episodic feel. And yet, that's not the timeline we live in. Legend of Duo was created by a Japanese anime studio, for money. It was a professional job, done by people who either didn't have the technical skill to make something good, or... simply didn't care enough. And make no mistake. Even if it *had* released on NG, it still wouldn't be good. Above average, compared to its peers? Perhaps, but there are plenty of things that came out of the Flash era, plenty of works by talented, passionate creators, that hold up far better than LoD. Teenagers in their bedrooms made better content than professional animation studios, and released it for free. That is the universe we live in. This isn't even a review. This is just an essay on why Legend of Duo is an interesting failure. Anyone nostalgic for the good old days of Godlimations, give this show a watch. Imagine Duo being voiced by Edwyn Tiong. For everyone else... no, not really. It's just bad.
A true culmination of magnificence! I can't recommend this enough. It was great, it was fun and it was truly iconic. The fighting scenes were especially beautiful. And the style variety between different characters was eye opening in its cleverness. I could truly feel the confusion of the choices the main character had to make like it was my own. The personality of the main character was so well written it was like watching a bottle spin, never stopping. Pointing to every direction and changing by the second. So much realism. And the dialogue between the characters? It was deep and so poetic. I don't even know howto begin describing it. It was surely better than anything I've seen before. It truly left me speechless. The ending is also heart wrenching and so tragic. It left me feeling like I need to take long walk along a steep path, feeling like I can only regain my hope in humanity if this masterpiece were to get the continuation it deserves. I was only left with a single question. Who is Lizzie?
