The best thing I liked about this hentai is that it has no violence, no rapes, no BDSM or sexual slavery, no tentacles or anything. There are also no stories about teachers seducing their students, doctors or nurses injecting viagra-like medicine to innocent patients, stepmothers (stepfathers and other relatives...), no next-door neighbours, no succubuses, demon kings or other fairy tale creatures all invented by hentai creators. One day, the boy makes up his mind to overcome all his hesitations about making love to his girlfriend for the first time (she may be a virgin... what if she gets hurt? or refuses and gets offended, and i will lose her? or maybe she doesn't want to do it with me?)... however, it becomes clear that life sometimes may turn out to be more tricky than we imagine. Perhaps, my rates are a bit higher than they should be (I'm not a good judge), however, they are that high because it is one of the adult movies that are close to real life. If you like stories of that kind, never miss it!
It would be a mistake to think of Virgin Night as just another typical sleazy hentai anime. Sure, the premise of some average teen wanting to lay his too-cute-for-him girlfriend for the first time doesn’t sound exceptional to standard hentai fare, but a healthy dose of subtlety and a real sense of genuine affection elevates this schlocky sounding premise into being a perfect portrait of awkward adolescent love. Seriously. The first thing you’ll notice when starting this short OVA is, well, the boyfriend kissing his girlfriend and fondling her breasts. Stick with me though, it’s actually good! There’s not really any glorification or fetishizing to theact, it’s actually portrayed in a suitably uncomfortable light. He fumbles around uncertainly, she is visibly shaking and wears a nervous, conflicted expression, his mind is racing with whether or not he should even be doing this, she clearly doesn’t know how to respond to his advances despite loving him; all of this culminates in his doubts overtaking him and hurriedly backing off, leaving the act unfulfilled and heading out to go rent a movie. This short scene sets the tone wonderfully for the rest of the OVA. His intentions laid bare, it drenches everything that follows in awkward contemplation. A large chunk of this OVA is simply them silently walking to go pick up a movie. It’s very slow paced and atmospheric and tense. The color palette here and throughout is typically muted and naturalistic, lending itself well to the moodier atmosphere of the anime. A lot of attention is payed to small mannerisms and body language that communicates their muddled thoughts effortlessly and through this, their silence says more than words could hope to. Something as small as her somewhat forced smile and chipper voice disrupting the stark atmosphere when suggesting that a movie might be interesting conveys a lot about her and the reassurance she’s trying to give to her boyfriend. The characterization of these two is kind of limited, as this is a very short story, but it thrives on the commonplace and these small details. The things they’re feeling are just so ordinary and both characters are very easy to relate to right off the bat because of this. The framing of shots is similarly understated. Take the unassuming scene of them stopping to pick up snacks on the way home. A close shot of the boyfriend deep in thought, occupying himself by pretending to read a magazine, while his girlfriend lingers in the background is a great visual summation of his current mindset. A shot centered on her large breasts pushing up against her leg when browsing for food may seem like a typically lewd hentai shot, but it’s followed by a brief pillow shot, then a cut of him looking even more uncomfortable and doubtful than before, likely consumed by thoughts of whether he’s worthy of such a pretty girl at the sight of this, if someone like that can even love him enough to have sex with him. To be sure, there’s some lust mixed into his expression as well, but that’s only natural for someone of his age. It’s a very conflicted expression. Even the shot of them silently walking out of the store, which almost seemed to have served as a brief respite where they could idly distract themselves from the situation at hand, carries the weight of them heading home and having to deal with these thoughts concretely. These things aren’t expressed via monologue or anything so basely on-the-nose as that, it’s all in the body language and formal subtlety of the shots. And even the sex is great! Not because it’s super sexy or anything because it’s really not. It’s probably the zenith of uncomfortable scenes in the OVA. But it’s also filled with genuine meaning and is brought to life with more of that amazing subtlety I mentioned earlier. There are long stretches where the two simple stare at each other, gauging each others thoughts. The pace of it is arguably just as slow as when they were slowly walking to the video store, and the tension even more severe. After he is nearly devastated by doubt to the point of backing off again, she quickly grabs his arm, plainly revealing that she was fraught with similar emotions as him the whole time. This was hinted at before in many of the moments described above, but up until now the anime made more of a marked effort to put you into the male character’s headspace; a clever way of actualizing the overwhelming uncertainty present up until this point, and of giving this small revelatory gesture the large impact it deserves. It’s just an incredibly beautiful moment, even if the grabbing of an arm is the kind of thing you see often in romance anime. What makes this instance particularly special is just how earned it feels. Every awkward moment, every slight facial expression, all of that tension reaching its breaking point to where she can’t help but express it more bluntly. This brings about a sort of mutual understanding, for them and the audience, and they scene continues as they consummate it. The whole thing is just brimming with intimacy and heart. The animation during this sex scene even uses fewer looped sequences than you may be used to seeing from hentai. There’s a great attention to detail in how each of them moves and reacts to one another. It’s all very natural and tender. Coupled with the sheer tension of the whole thing, it makes for a spellbinding viewing experience, a glimpse into a small yet significant moment in these characters’ lives as if we’re not even there. Free from the fetishistic leering you’d often find in its hentai ilk. So while it’s not really fap material, I think it stands tall as one of, if not the best sex scene I’ve seen in anime. And the ending is simply sublime. A perfect release of all that built up tension, all in just a few lines of dialogue and some of that fantastic body language. I’ll leave that unspoiled though because I feel I may have gone into too much detail already, but it’s legitimately extremely heartwarming and I couldn’t help but smile. This OVA is a perfect snapshot into a very particular place and time of adolescence, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Universal and subtle. Watch it.

There was no seduction or over-the-top plot going on - this is a simple look into the two characters' relationship and their struggling to instill some intimacy with each other. It works well as a backdrop for the characters and their interactions, which takes center stage. Characters: It is very easy to relate and sympathize with both Azumi and Yuzuru. For a one-off hentai OVA, the characters had a surprising depth and "real" feel to them - that they were more than bodies rubbing against each other in titillating ways. Their interactions paint a very realistic and compelling vision of two inexperienced teenagers going at it for the first time, which is further enhanced by good voice acting lines and points of awkward silence that were on point in emphasizing their situation. Art: Very mundane and ordinary, exactly what this OVA needed. The animation quality is passable considering it was produced in 2001. Not much to say here. Sound: There's a distinct lack of background music appropriate for the context of the OVA. Voice acting was great as the actors nailed the characters' awkwardness and interactions. Enjoyment: This is not a hentai OVA. You can try to fap to this, but honestly this is one of the worst OVAs to titillate yourself with. As a drama, however, this is superb. This will bring a whole lot of nostalgia for people remembering their first times while watching this OVA. Summary: This is the epitome of "plot with porn" - watch for the characters, not the sex, and you will have a great time. this is the first review that i made so please be gentle with me. well, when the episode started, i said "whoa! i thought this is different". but as the story continues, i realized why it started like that. I didn't like the art that much, but it is enough for the story though. it was very quiet and calm that it makes me feel the seriousness of the situation (though you can clearly hear her moans! haha). i really admire how the characters behave throughout the episode. the boy's gentleness and the girl being innocent on what their doing. the story just focused on the couple'sFIRST and i think that is enough for you to enjoy it. Overall, i really enjoyed watching this. simple but relaxing. it has no harsh scenes like any other hentais. haha. it's sex with LOVE. :)
My quest for a well executed hentai has finally bore a fruit that appealed to me in a personal way. Casting aside the traditional angst and horns of hentai anime, Virgin Night proceeds to offer a rather genuine and endearing depiction of sexual intercourse. A simple short story, and simple emotions. But executed with heart. It's not just about a couple having their first sex, it's about their emotions surrounding it. Granted, many other hentai have the same approach. But none of the ones I've seen were so humane in the presentation. And despite being narrated by the male, the feelings of the female were transmittedperfectly through her actions and reactions. Not to draw comparison, Futari Ecchi was a great hentai that depicted emotions very well. But that anime wasn't approaching this aspect in a delicate manner like this one. Virgin Night is tender, it's sweet, and it's touching with the normal interactions. And its visual depiction, while not particularly well processed, presented the softness of everything with care. The environment, the world, the room, the atmosphere, everything was carefully crafted, not only visually but also contextually. There are however some things holding it back. As I mentioned earlier, there are some moments where the characters weren't visually processed very well on its world. The voice acting at the time of their sex wasn't very consistent to the visual movements. But aside from the mild drawbacks, it's an immensely satisfying hentai anime in many ways. I'd love to see more hentai like this that are so passionately crafted.
Virgin Night is not your most typical hentai. For once, it has feelings to it. There's nothing forced and everyone is happy with what is happening and wants it to happen. Going into it, I kind of knew what to expect, but I never expected it to be this good. Yuzuru and Azumi are you typical couple. Usually when you see hentai with such characters, it just doesn't go as nicely as this one did. The characters have feelings which are beautifully shows in the animation. They think about life and consequences for once and it is beautiful to see. They love eachother and for once,you can feel it from their thoughts all the way to their movements. About the style of animation. Because of it being made in 2001, it isn't the best looking, but definitely do not let that keep you from seeing this. I, myself, am picky when it comes to quality and I simply could not turn away from something as pretty as this. I will advise you to watch this. It is surely amazing and one of the best I've seen. You'll know why when you watch it.
Whatever your tastes may be, I think we can all agree having a little sugar in our coffee never hurts. And let me say this is a good cup o' joe. While slow paced it's very appealing to the senses. It doesn't follow the typical humorous and cutesy romance anime, in fact, there's not even any music. In this case it works, as the story is organic as it gets. The animation is average, with it's flaws here and there. But the biggest mistake were none other than those big fat mosaic censors. Because let's be honest, we're all here for the same thing.And that ain't it. Unfortunately, I enjoyed the ride but it wrapped up pretty quickly. Something was missing, it felt like a tease in the end. It would of been wonderful to see this made into one or two more episodes carrying out the couple's story. Still I commend this 'lil gem for being original. Short and sweet, but also refreshing.
No words can truly describe the feelings I felt as I watched this hentai. Take it from me, someone who masturbates to hentai regularly, this single OVA managed to make me limp simply from how good the presentation was. It's unbelievable how simple and pure the story is and yet, manages to leave me speechless and in awe at what I just saw.
