In the distant past, a war between humans and demons brought about widespread chaos and bloodshed. To put an end to this seemingly endless conflict, Demon King Anos Voldigoad willingly sacrificed his life, hoping to be reborn in a peaceful future. In preparation for their king's return, the demon race created the Demon King Academy, an elite institution tasked with determining Anos' identity when he reawakens. He reincarnates two millennia later, but to his surprise, he soon learns that the level of magic in the world has drastically waned during his absence. Moreover, when he enrolls at the academy to reclaim his rightful title, he finds out that demonkind remembers him differently. His personality, his deeds, and even his legacy are all falsified—masked beneath the name of an impostor. This "lack" of common knowledge renders him the academy's outlier—a misfit never before seen in history. Despite these drawbacks, Anos remains unfazed. As he sets out to uncover those altering his glorious past, he takes it upon himself to make his descendants recognize that their ruler has finally returned. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha (The Misfit of Demon King Academy): THE SECOND COMING of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular of Magic High School)? I hope to believe so, because like the latter, to which the same ol' gimmick of elitists proclaiming: "Oh, ANOTHER "power fantasy LN" with the same OP MC likeness? Get the F*** outta here!" is kinda tiresome at this point (and I honestly DON'T F***ING CARE). But in actuality, this show is AMAZING and AWESOME AS HECK. Do you love power fantasy stories, with the lore of the actual MC not being a fuccboi and doesn't take a shit or 2 aboutothers taking his place, all while being massively OP? Well then, like Mahouka's Tatsuya, Misfit's Anos Voldigoad will wreck you with his full-on "lay dormant for 2000 years" rightful Demon King powers so cold he'll knock you senseless to death, and then revive just to satisfy his desires of meting out rightful punishments to crush the morals of his enemies, NOW THAT'S SATISIFYING. So the story goes like this: The usual demons vs. humans battle of wars and strife enraging for 2000 years, the TRUE Demon King Anos Voldigoad facing off against the typical Hero Kanon, in an unfathomable (but understandable) action of sacrifice to ensure the future peace between hybrid demons and ordinary humans (reincarnations of heroes, if you will). Fast forward 2000 years of another reincarnation, Anos finds that all is not what it seems: the codependency future of hybrid demons and humans living together, has taken for the worse with the typical class system that divides between royalty and commoners, not to mention that magic itself has weakened overtime, AND A FAKE Demon King shaping the post-history that completely wipes out his legacy of existence. In the seemingly new timeline of things, Anos must make right of A LOT of issues, starting with his enrollment into the Demon King Academy and make-do the class system of royal and lower-class hybrid demons, not forgetting the Hero side as well in a now 2,000 + 2,000 = 4,000 year-old never-ending implication and consequences of "living lives for vengeance to revenge" and the lore to "put an end to something", ALL WHILE BEING A "magic-illegible failure" of a MISFIT. Onto the characters: OP MC Anos Voldigoad is one strong-willed, bad-ass man, and try to play funk with him, and you'll be severely awaiting death in the most insane of magnitudes. A strong-willed guy whose growth ascends fast from being a 1-month old infant, he is someone who walks the talk and honours his word from the moment of request, and honestly a hot figure to look out for. He is in every sense of the word: A CONFIDENCE MAN. No matter if he's looked down upon by everyone from the start, all he needs to do is prove through his magic of the sheer terror to shut his silencers up. Unlike the serious Takuya, Anos at least isn't serious the entire time, and knows how to crack a joke or 2 as ways to allay or make fear in the most unpredictable or comforting environments. Oh, and how can I forget Anos' mother? She is easily the best supporting mum after Tohru's deceased mom (from Fruits Basket), legibly supporting their only child (with Dad) whose lives have been blessed since his birth, and what a close-knitted family who does not shake at Anos developing a harem and just plainly cooking dinner for more invited people. What a mother figure. Of course, what's a ridiculously OP MC without some women on the side? From the descendance of one of the Seven Elder Demon Emperors, Ivis, comes twin sisters: the Dandere Misha and the Himedere-cum-Tsundere "Witch of Destruction" Sasha, both of demon descent. The former likes to do things quietly, while the latter is a brash "princess"-like girl who wants the people to know how superior she is. The true purpose of the Necron sisters is to fuse into a single, powerful demon when they reach 15 years old, that somehow under Ivis' direction to split Sasha's fetus into 2. Until then, the Hime-sama character will always continually shred Misha of her existence and not acknowledge her for life, that is until their 15th birthday where Sasha's true intentions are not to kill her, but to save her from calamity, from an alternate version of Anos's Demon King-like character called Avos Dilhevia. Personally, Misha is the sweetest of the 2, but give Sasha a break of time, and she'll reveal her tsundere side to Anos's appeal (but of course he'd reject out of friendship rightaway). The challenged Royalty of a Demon-turned-ally, Lay Glanzudlii (or for better words, the manga adaptation of the LN-named Ray Grandsley). Like the other Royalty demons, he was once the opposing faction with the others, and taking up Anos's challenge to defy the odds of a commoner-turned-Royalty privilege, all while being at the behest control of the Royalty over his family (or rather, his mum's severe condition). Of course, we'd expect Anos to save the day as usual and convert him into a useful ally. Along with Misa Ilioroagu, another classmate who's a Unitarian, not only does she acknowledge Anos as the TRUE Demon King, she is fighting to deride the class system as well with her full force, but clearly needing some help with. The loveline for both is quite small, but eventually the ship gets going (but I'd wish it'd be real). And speaking of Unitarian, The Unitarian Club, or more famously known as the AFC: Anos Fan Club. The entire group of bishounen-ish fetish girls for Anos. whom like Misa, also supports Anos as his rightful place of being the Demon King, and their support for the OP MC has been in every sense of the way, dangerously beautiful. I really like this twist of things that bring a fresh air into the power fantasy genre, adding the idol-like songs which emit a pinch of inspiration, not to mention the praises of the ONE AND ONLY TRUE Lord of their lives. Overall, the character cast of which I've had immense terror and fun of watching for the past 13 episodes, and my excitement can only go the way up, not the way down. Silver Link has been on a winning streak for 2020 so far for Spring's BOFURI and Summer's Otome Game, both series earning a Season 2 after the end of their TV broadcasts, and to be honesty, it'd be sad if this series didn't follow the past adaptations streak of getting a sequel. Regardless, it's rare for shows to have 3 directors, 3! Assistant director Minato Mirai (of BOFURI), Director Masafumi Tamura (of Kenja no Mago), and chief studio director Shin Oonuma, but to me it seems like Tamura-san had some involvement, and Oonuma-san being a direct influence in order to NOT turn this show into yet another Kenja no Mago. To that extent, I sincerely thank you Shin Oonuma for making the right decisions to make this show VERY enjoyable. The art style and animation can be said as a fusion between BOFURI (in the action) and Otome Game (in the character designs), and it's quite overwhelming for Silver Link to really go ALL OUT to deliver one of their best action-fantasy shows ever, but it delivers on ALL FRONTS. Great heck of a job done well. There might be nothing to sell on the sound department, but for what this show has to offer, it has also been pretty good. CIVILIAN's OP was the bog-standard fare of action, but how about adding Anos's VA Tatsuhisa Suzuki for a twist of fun? He did a remarkable job voicing Anos, yet to sing for the OP as well, what favor did the producers do to make him stand out even more. Tomori Kusunoki is back for another insane ED, and it's also another great song to add to the already impressive repertoire of an OST. All I can say about this show is: WOW...JUST WOW. BOFURI and Otome Game has exceeded my expectations for their respective genres, and Maou Gakuin is definitely THE addition to Silver Link's most ambitious show productions in just 2020 alone. To the elitists I say: SHUT YOUR TRAP and see this show for what is worth. The world may be unkind to the minority, but it's all A-OK to follow your own opinions. Just let the power fantasy rolls its flex.
Well, I’ll be damned. In 2020, it seems overpowered fantasy tropes still finds its time to take up TV screen time. Because in this anime known as ‘The Misfit of Demon Academy’, main protagonist Anos Voldigoad adheres to everything you can describe about a character with too much power. And if you’re hoping to see a well-developed show with likable cast or creative story, then buckle your belts. Spoiler: you won’t. Adapted from the light novel of the same name, it doesn’t take long for the audience to discover why Anos exist in the present timeline. He has been reincarnated after 2000 years and is nowone of the most powerful beings on the planet. This isn’t just a legend but a fact as we’ll witness the extent of Anos’ abilities – magic, intelligence, experience, and overwhelming power. In a way, you could say he’s nearly damn untouchable. Or is he? Well, not every being is perfect but Anos has been labeled as a ‘misfit’ in his current timeline. That’s why he came to an academy and with a goal to once again become a Demon King. At this point, you’re probably already asking yourself why the author decided to create such a powerful protagonist. There’s much proof throughout the show how powerful Anos is when he overwhelms his enemies without batting an eye. One example includes him using a mere stick to fight against a sword while seemingly treating the fight as a game. To Anos, life feels like a game and he doesn’t take it much it seriously. The first few episodes shows that he’s enjoying his time and isn’t as malicious as his former title may imply. In fact, Anos seems to respect those who are loyal such as his female classmates and characters such as Sasha, who has a vast amount of magical potential. This brings the question...should we like Anos? The question seems ambiguous but also easy to answer. He’s a stereotypical character with little to null character development. And with just 13 episodes, you’re not going to unlock his potential because it’s already there. Let that decide how much you’ll care about the former demon lord. Sadly, most of the other cast doesn’t hold up much potential either. This is pretty much the Anos Voldigoad show. He runs it from morning to night and no one can really hold a candle to him. Sasha and Misha are two main characters that Anos believes may have a lot of potential. Sasha in particular is a prodigy with special eyes and talent in the magic arts. Of course, this is all impractical compared to Anos as evidenced in their first fight. While Sasha does stand above her classmates, she’s nothing but an ant in Anos’ world. Misha, the younger twin sister of Sasha, has powerful magical capacity. Anos even admits that someday, she may be able to surpass him in creative magic. The key word here is ‘someday’ because from the Misha we see in the anime story, she’s a fragile girl with few friends. As a matter of fact, Anos is one of the only few characters that looks her in the eye and treats her with kindness. Her relationship with Sasha gets a bit more complicated as the two rarely see eye to eye. Although their relationship improves later on, the storytelling side doesn’t fully explore their characters as a whole. Because let’s be honest here: This anime has and always will be about Anos Voldigoad. The main story itself continuously adapts Anos’ journey to regain his former glory but along the way, he also encounters formidable rivals. These include other students such as Lay or even Demon Emperors. Unfortunately, most of these characters remain underdeveloped and seemingly added to the show to push Anos. In every confrontation, it’s shown that Anos is the powerhouse. Furthermore, Anos’ fights in the show remains undeveloped due to the nature of his powers. Every fight feels repetitive with the overemphasis on magic. When these fights attempts to apply psychology, they fall short on feeling something unique. If I said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. This show is really about Anos Voldigoad, the misfit of the demon academy. Silver Link’s experience in crafting this project to life can be best described as mediocre. Nothing in particular stands out above this light novel adaptation when compared to similar shows. The character outfits are designed with an academy vision in mind. To be honest, Anos, Misha, and Sasha are the only characters that stands out as the main cast. To further enhance their abilities, the anime designed them with aesthetic eyes that symbolizes their power. The world setting of the show lacks an attractive appeal because let’s face it, once you’ve seen an academy like this, you’ve seen them all. Upon finishing the show, I asked myself if this was the franchise’ attempt to get the audience to purchase the light novel. The impression this show gave makes it easy to recognize that it’s just a tease and viewers will need to spend more money to experience the entire collection. Is it worth to drop money into this franchise? Not a chance.
If I said I didn't enjoy the hell out of this series then I'd be a liar. This is one of those anime where the main character cheeses the most absurdly impossible things in the most impossibly dumb ways. The story and characters aren't the best and it may seem generic at first but somehow it just got a hold of me and wouldn't let go. This was a 6/10 for me and deserves it fully, looking at it it's really good at being entertaining and that's all you should expect from a fantasy anime with a mc who can yeet castles like they're legos. Irecommend this to anyone in need of watching an op main be op and all side characters being absolute potatoes cause they can't think for themselves. This is something you can turn on and turn off your brain to watch because there is no incredibly amazing, brilliant, or deep story to follow. There is a lot of symbolism and foreshadowing though, but everything was very predictable but that doesn't matter. It was a fun watch, and I don't care if it wasn't that good... It's a 6/10, nothing short of entertaining.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History's Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and Goes to School with His Descendants wins the award for the most unnecessarily over the top title of the year. But then again, it fits perfectly with the actual content of the show itself, which can be described as nothing short of absolutely ridiculous. And that’s thanks to the inclusion of one particular being of immeasurable power and prestige. *drum roll* Anos Voldigoad That’s right, Anos deservers an entire line dedicated to his name alone, he’s just that omnipotent. This anime was literally a hair's breadth away from becoming a generic isekai. Which Maou Gakuintechnically is, since Anos gets reincarnated 2000 years in the future, so yeah, close enough! But the creator adapted the common trend of making an overpowered protagonist and took it to the next level and then some. Yes, Maou Gakuin does have other merits, but this approach really did wonders for this anime’s entertainment value. I mean it’s literally isekai One Punch Man but with waifus and far inferior production values. So unfortunately, the plot is pretty sloppy and heavily rushed in some instances. But instead of reading paragraphs worth of me boringly dissect the narrative, let’s just talk about the cool badass stuff! OH YEAH! Anos is a man who is one month old thanks to his EPIC aging abilities. Screw childhood, am I right!? He goes to a demon school that’s searching for the reincarnated demon king and proceeds to utterly beat the crap out of some punk kid who looked at him funny. He straight up murders this kid’s ass and revives him multiple times because death is an absolute joke to Anos. This was the first clue that Anos was going to be more than a typical Mary Sue, and he gets better from there. Throughout the story, Anos finds a harem befitting of his greatness. He acquires cute demon twins Misha and Sasha who fall for him and even kisses Sasha. Now that’s what I like to see! Not gonna lie, I actually liked the girls’ arc and thought that their bond was handled pretty well. And to top it all off, the climatic fight literally ends with Anos completely overruling the power of a frickin time god because time is an absolute joke to Anos. He then proceeds to beat the crap out of some demon lord dude. His harem grows when Anos is introduced to an actual Anos fan club of hot chicks. Now I absolutely loved their inclusion in the show. These girls literally get horny at the though of breathing the same air as Anos. The girls hilariously sing some coordinated chants for Anos when he fights, even during the frickin final boss of the show, and surprisingly have a touching moment when they defend Anos’ mom from a bitchy teacher. Anos beats the crap out of this teacher btw and proceeds to murder her ass and revive her as a pleb so she can understand the struggles of the common folk to TEACH her a lesson. What a flex! There are obviously far more badass Anos moments in the show, but you can just watch the anime to see them. If nothing else, the unique ways that Anos flexes on everyone definitely makes Maou Gakuin worth a watch. I mean at one point a guy literally jokes about Anos draining a lake and then Anos straight up evaporates the lake in like two seconds with a massive fire ball. It’s moments like these that I enjoy, and I appreciate the anime because of it. So I’ve basically just talked about Anos, but like I said, this anime does do a solid job with other characters. There’s this chill dude named Lay who plays an important roll and even a girl who falls in love with him instead of Anos. Yeah, that’s the biggest plot twist by far. Anos’ parents are pretty entertaining and each have some heartfelt bonding moments with Anos, which was nice. And even after their arc is completed, Sasha and Misha still develop and have some nice little moments with Anos that showcase their strengths, interests, and desire to grow. Wow, they’re actually more than just waifu bait!…Ok, they’re still waifu bait nonetheless, but at least they have some quality! Each character in the show from Anos all the way down to his fan club were given the spotlight at some point, and I was impressed with how Maou Gakuin tried to care about its entire cast. Instead of acting like a dull isekai protagonist and boring me out of my mind, Anos was something more. This made the anime quite refreshing. And on top of it having some surprisingly well written and fun character interactions, it actually ended up being a, dare a say, decent show in my mind. The critical part of me definitely wants to score the anime lower because of it’s flaws in several areas such as the plot and animation, but screw it. Anos is just so creatively badass that he beats the crap out of my logic and reason and makes me more generous in my reviewing. What a guy!
While Demon King Academy does take the common overpowered character trope, it actually manages to provide a thoughtful mystery-esque story with a foundation supported not only with Anos' fan club but with fair amounts of worldbuilding and explanation of Anos's doings. So what makes this stand out from the others? The story follows a recognizable pattern of arcs where characters are introduced, understanding their purpose and confronting Anos in the end. The only nitpicks I had with the storytelling is that they could have slowed down a bit, as at some points the pace was quite fast to not leave a substantial impact for upcomingepisodes. The most fascinating thing about this show is how everything just seems to be freakishly tied together. Almost everything is explained, from callbacks to first time encounters. And while it may seem as if the author covered the plot holes with some reasoning filler, it's actually justified to an extent. Overall nothing ground-breaking new and unique but the setup and execution are well planned. The character development over the course of the season is evident. Anos, reincarnated now sought on living a peaceful life with his parents due to his restless upbringing from 2,000 years ago. While being the overpowered demon king as he is, his journey is not simply about destroying the opposition, rather acknowledgement of him and his fellow demonfolk. What's also really great about this show is that it manages to fit in scenes for other characters to develop rather than solely revolving around Anos. Silver Link has this uncanny reputation of finding some hidden gems in the rough world of LNs, and while their use of art style is quite average among other shows today, they don't cut short on battle scenes and the effort is visually appealing. The soundtrack is also quite fitting in the anime and feels very in-place. The opening/ending are okay and visuals are well on point. In all, I'd give this show the most intriguing non-sequel for summer 2020 as I felt that it had a lot to show and more to be desired. Would definitely watch another season of Anos' curbstomping adventures. Should you watch it? If you despise isekai or op mcs it's probably not enough to consider a watch, otherwise it's a fun series.
"The misfit of Demon King academy is like one punch man but on steroids" (I assume you have read the Synopsis before reading this review) Anos Voldigoad the main character of this series may seem like an overpowered self insert character, but he is not. He has an actual personality and a reason for doing what he does. He was never a fan of war but due to circumstances beyond his control he couldn't stop a war from happening between all of the races, and the pent up hate which the races had because of this war didn't make it easier to stop it so heand with the help of the hero made walls between the lands of the 4 races and after some time they would disappear rendering all the pent up hatred to history. The reason why he did this is a spoiler so I won't tell you about it but there is one and it makes a lot of sense. <Comedy> This anime comedy is best described as a serious comedy. Its the type of comedy where something absurd happens but everyone is dead serious, e.g. Your teacher visiting you at Christmas wearing speedos and your parents greet him and they are having a conversation about your math grades. This is an example of what kind of comedy you should expect. (This thing doesn't happen in the anime its made up) <Art> The characters and the world have a lot of detail to them and the fight/action scenes are animated to a very good level. <Sound> It is very Subjective but I liked the OST and the OP is a banger. <Charachter> The characters are great. They have their own goals motives and reasons for doing things, but the best part is when they speak to each other their dialogue is dynamic so it makes listening to conversation quite fun, <End> This anime will hook you in the very first episode so I implore you to watch it.
**Spoiler free** Honestly, anyone can be forgiven for thinking it's another generic isekai (do in theory it isn't) like isekai cheat magician. I have to state, I am an big fantasy and magic anime fan, so you can expect a bit of bias. The story, characters and action are all mediocre, I dont think you'll loose hair due to them but I can't say in any way they're great. But honestly, I don't think the creators intended this to be a tate no yuusha. The show has made me laugh more than any other 13 episode anime. If you were meant to laugh, I can't say butthat doesn't matter because it does. I will note, there are 2 characters I love in this anime, and those are anos his parents. I wont specify why but they just work. The story is generic and is one of those where everything happens in a way to further the story. Characters growth doesn't really exist. But that doesn't mean I hate the characters. Even do they're backstories aren't good, even do there are typical harem girls everywhere, even do half of the side characters only get 1 scene. They still feel closer to hart than many other anime of the kind with the same flaws. Anos isn't just an OP MC like hachi-nan's MC. The girls aren't just harem simp girls who have no reason to exist. TLDR: Nothing here is great, but much of it just works. I recommend this anime ON the condition your a fan of the genre. And I do feel I have to say this, your sense of humor must allign with the anime. I fully get why people hate this anime. But I really don't think they understood where the enjoyment is in this anime. If you are looking for something of the sort but better in most every way, watch shield hero (tate no yuusha) or fairy tail. They are great animes (do many will debate how good fairy tail is) worth your time.
The reviews and rating of this anime doesn't match, showing how unreliable MAL's one or the other can be. Nonetheless, I will be defending the rating side this time as I too enjoyed this anime and wish to share my love and allow the same people as I to get into this anime and not get a bad impression from the negative reviews. Strictly saying, Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e is just another OP MC anime with a little effort of uniqueness ( the concept of “the Demon King is actually kinda good” ) providedin hope that it would make the story better but that concept has already slowly become about as generic as its opposite because it's overused ( at least from my perspective and experience ) and this anime is fundamentally pretty much just a copy of The Irregular At Magic High School with a lot less talking. But hey, all these points can be seen as positive things or easily take no notice of. Sometimes a lot of things can be shoved aside for contentment. I don’t know how you define masterpiece but for me it simply means good. The number 2 - 9 are simply there to make the contentment more efficient to portray but I no longer am a part of that usage of efficiency. Call me The Bias Man, but I only know what’s good is good and what’s bad is bad. All I strive for is contentment and so long as I feel content, everything else I don’t give a single shit. With that said, this anime is good. Why? - the concept of “the Demon King is actually kinda good” isn’t repetitive enough for me to get bored of it yet. - OP Mc is always fun for me as a huge fan of many RPG games such as D&D. - Incredibly OP Mc - Has technical harem which isn’t annoying. - Acceptable quality, art and animation. And that pretty much sums it up. This anime does not need any improvements except it would probably be way better with better quality, art and animation. Overall a very fun show to watch and probably one of the more “acceptable” OP Mcs out there which isn’t just outright outrageous, uncomfortable or unwatchable. I recommend this to OP MC lads out there. This is a MUST watch.
How to make a series with an OP MC interesting? You write and surround them with amazing supporting characters with unique quirks and personalities. You balance the MC's screen time with them and voila, you have an enjoyable series that doesn't feel bland. That's what Maou Gakuin gave us and why it was my second favourite show of the season after Re:Zero. Yes, Anos is extremely overpowered and it's the familiar fantasy setting, but there's a reason the light novels and anime have been so highly received and I promise you this is different from your usual OP fantasy. The supporting characters really make this seriesshine and will provide immense enjoyment. Everyone who knows me knows that I am extremely anti-tsundere. So for a character like Sasha to catch my fancy, requires some seriously good writing. Both she and her sister, Misha were a double whammy for me, really made my Saturdays enjoyable and gave me something to look forward to. In addition to really done characters, Maou Gakuin has some awesome art. Something about the character designs that just really made the show feel unique as well. Animation is extremely solid as well as you've come to expect from Silverlink and the show's humour consistently landed with me. The aforementioned reasons made Maou Gakuin an extremely fun watch and the show I looked forward to most at the weekends. Anos and co. get 9 demonic eyes out of 10. TL;DR: Don't be hesitant because the MC is OP, there's great side characters, a cool story and great chemistry among the cast that makes this a very enjoyable watch and separates it from traditional stories of this type. I promise you, I've seen them all.
How often do you get a good night's sleep? I never get the sleep I deserve. After watching so many bad anime, I stay up all night tossing and turning in bed. A lack of sleep can cause depression, anxiety, weight gain, etc. No sleep medication has helped me. Melatonin, Benadryl, Trazadone, even horse-tranquilizers. Nothing worked... until now. I finally found the cure for insomnia, and its name is The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Hi, I'm RebelPanda and I've made it my job to ensure YOU get the good night's sleep you deserve. Just turn on an episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy and you'llfeel drowsy in seconds! No anime has made me fall asleep faster since Kenja no Mago! It blends every generic power-fantasy anime trope into a single episode. Remarkable! There are no stakes, no one can die, there is infinite plot armor, and the visuals are fucking awful! Magic circles are thrown across the screen with photoshop, CGI fire is copy-pasted ontop of hideous background art, and all the character art is overexposed. The premise has been done hundreds of times, which is what makes it so effective. You'll never need to count sheep again after you watch this. The demon king Anos Voldigoad fought a 2,000-year war in a non-descript medieval world, but he became so bored that he let his archrival kill him! So relatable! Watching his backstory made me want to die of boredom too! 2,000 years later, Anos is reincarnated as a baby to marry a couple of 14-year-old girls. And they're also... his ancestors!? Don't bother calling the FBI, they'll just fall asleep too! He's perfect. So of course, he does not develop at all. Even though he murdered thousands of people, he never needs to reconcile that. Thankfully they didn't forget the most important trope; every woman irrationally loves him! I can't blame them. Who wouldn't love this man? He's so charismatic, rebellious, kind, confident, handsome, attractive—oh dear, look at me. I'm in love with Anos too! You deserve a good night's sleep. For the small price of $79.99, you can sleep for 2,000 years, just like Anos! Reduce stress, improve concentration, and get an eternal slumber. Call 1-800-420-ANOS for your very own subscription! If you don't like it, which is impossible because Anos is perfect, we will give you your money back. Call now and we'll throw in the soundtrack (free stock music) for no extra charge! Side effects may include cringe, drowsiness, and in rare cases... ... As of September 26th, I have been watching The Misfit of Demon Academy for 13 weeks. Now I only watch one episode a week, but it has changed me irrevocably. This anime haunts my vision, night after night, all I see is Anos violently slaughtering his classmates with a flick of his finger or a heartbeat. They instantly explode in a burst of blood, then he reincarnates them. No one ever dies. There are no stakes. Everything that happens in the world gratifies him. Anos even has his own Fanclub of girls who pray to him like he's a God. Even though his harem of a dozen women has powers, they are useless compared to him. He ALWAYS saves them. Now I just need him to save me too. I can't get this shit out of my head. I can't get out of bed. I'm dependent on this awful anime to function. I thought if I watched more it would make me stay awake. But the more I watch it, the more I wish I could fall asleep. People said this anime is satire because it cuts out all the typical power fantasy bullshit. It doesn't waste time pretending to be deeper than it is. Except, that isn't satire. It isn't subverting anything. It is all the same. The main character is overpowered, all of the girls love him, there's a tsundere, all of the villains are evil for the sake of it. I can't for the life of me understand how someone who disliked Kenja no Mago or Isekai wa Smartphone would like this. If you want pure power fantasy injected straight into your veins, watch this. You will love it. Anyone who watches this show with their brain turned on will realize it's fucking garbage. Once being reincarnated, Anos discovers that hybrid demons like him are an oppressed race. They are subservient to pureblood demons. Anos' fan club/idol group sings a song to empower the hybrid race, to protest their oppressors. Except, the hybrids tell the purebloods to "Know your place," which doesn't combat discrimination. It only replaces it with more racism. Good job! Anos Voldigoad ended racism with more racism! Anos tries to be funny, but all of his jokes fall flat. He always sounds bored and his face never changes. It's like he has a full-house, and he needs to make a poker face. Everyone loves him, he is endlessly powerful, and he slaughters foes with no effort. He pauses after a one-liner like he's waiting for the audience to applaud or laugh. Whoever wrote this light novel needs to not write comedy anymore. I'm sorry your parents never said you're not funny. You unironically wrote a story that congratulates narcissism and racism. This is one of the most shallow, illogical, and condescending anime I've ever watched. Now, where's my apology? The Misfit of Demon King Academy made me exhausted. My life has been ruined because I sleep so much. I've tried to stop watching, but if I skip an episode, I can't fall asleep for the rest of the week. Attempting to stop watching it cold turkey caused me to feel extreme withdrawal. My heart races, my ears ring, I get constant migraines, and I violently vomit. I feel like worms are chewing through my mind. I cannot describe how much I hate this show. Don't make the same mistake I did. The Misfit of Demon King Academy is so bad it will literally rot your brain.
tl;dr this whole anime was literally only a deus ex machina. This will probably have spoilers, though I can't say I'm spoiling much. If you were looking for anything with a plot, character development, or decent action, don't watch. The plot was "OMG we have a huge problem," then Anos going "dw bro i got a spell to cover that." Now, I'm not saying it's no fun if you always win; Overlord and other broken MC animes like Tensei Shitara Slime manage to balance it out with other factors. A flawless MC like Anos is boring, no character development of side characters took more than a single halfof an episode, and Anos's abilities destroy what little plot there was. Only watch this if you just want some good-guys-always-win gratification.
This anime changed my life. Before I was just a humble boy now I am a man. This is PEAK FICTION. Anyone who gives it a low review is scum of the earth. They do not understand peak fiction even if it smacked them in the face. This anime is perfect. If you love this anime and give it a 10 you are the best person on this planet. Like the father said "atta boy" to all of you. The story and the characters were all amazing (except for the teacher. she sucked) this anime hit all the notes when it came to story, art, sound, character, enjoyment. Overall a 10/10 anime. Even my grandma loved it! Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
This was one of the best anime of 2019. This anime knew exactly what it wanted to be from the moment it was conceived. It was, is, and always will be a power fantasy, executed perfectly, by an anime studio that knew what it was doing. This was a story of love - love of close family, love of friends, love of broad family, and love of even family removed by thousands of years. Anos Voldigoad knew, from the very moment he was born, that he didn't need to care about the people of myanimelist. But he cared anyway. He acted with perfect love fordemons, humans, and gods. He demonstrated perfect love, while myanimelist commentators lost the plot.
[ WHAT IF ONE PUNCH MAN, BUT DEMON LORD ] I seriously don't understand why the other reviews are so low. If it was an isekai I would understand it a bit more maybe, but it isn't. I really really enjoyed this show. I'm a complete sucker for overpowered main characters, and this show does it better than so many I've seen before. There's never the "oh I'm the most powerful being but the bad guy managed to booboo my epsilon so now I'm only at 1% power and can barely fight back". The first episode has the main dude repeatedly murdering someone and resurrecting them tothe point of trauma, to get them to surrender, while dropping existential mindfuck bombs on them like "some say when you resurrect you aren't the same person, what do you think?". The way he kills them is by snapping his fingers by the way, making them explode in a splatter of blood - like a tomato left in the microwave too long. It's definitely not a Steins;Gate ofc, but a thing that ruins a lot of other shows like this is the - for lack of a better word - campiness/low budget feel. This show doesn't have that at all. I went to watch other similar shows, but I could barely stand the first 10 minutes, they felt so B and low quality, pacing was all over the place. The story while not super good, is still a peg above a lot of other shows I've watched, with an actual conclusive ending, good pacing and sense of scale, some great plot-twists. Anos as a character is also very nicely written. He is insanely overpowered, and he knows he is. He treats others like ants, because to him that's what they are. An elephant doesn't explain itself to ants. He does take in some ants and nurture them, and he isn't all high and mighty towards anyone. He just exudes CONFIDENCE, and I think that's difficult to pull off without making the character seem either cocky or like an asshole, but they managed it in this show very well. Anos is basically so overpowered he defies gods and the basic logic of the world itself, his power being that of destruction in every definition of the word. This anime also falls into the rare category if anime that rarely "makes fun of itself" - with the exception of a single re-occurring joke. It's hard to explain, but a lot of anime, especially the B cheesy variety, kinda feel like they're a stageplay where all the actors know what's gonna happen, and they are performing all their acting with a tinge of irony? This show doesn't fall into that which is nice. I thought it was a great watch, even has some really emotional moments, a lot of the plot threads get resolved by the end which is also very rare. If you like overpowered characters then you owe it to yourself to watch it. The animation quality is also very good, never felt budgety. It uses CGI where it makes sense, it never felt out of place (Mostly for huge fireballs, never for character models). Something else to point out is that Anos isn't a character that "suddenly" becomes powerful. He was always powerful, he just reincarnated now, and instead of that just being the opener to the show, a lot of the story revolves around the reincarnation of characters, especially the main dude's reincarnation, even why he did it etc. Felt very fleshed out, and not like a cop-out gimmick. The magic and powers in the show aren't like an "rpg" system that every anime seem to have, with levels and stat points that break the 4th wall. It's good ol' demons and sacred magic. Paladins, necromancy, etc. (tho not called that). The show doesn't feel rushed with explaining the world. It explores around where it starts, the story doesn't meander and wander further than it can reach, it stays comfortably where it can explain properly, and uses Anos and his vast difference in magical power to explain things and resolve the story. It almost feels similar to One Punch Man in a way, but with more variety and demonic energy
The Misfit of Demon King Academy features an interesting twist on the classic tropes of overpowered protagonists and battles between human heroes and demon kings. It manages to avoid the pitfall of having a boring main character that uses their world-breaking powers to cover up their lack of a character, and uses it's generally well-rounded cast of characters to form a decent metaphor about racism and classism. On top of that, there's a consistent layer of subtle comedy, well-animated fight scenes and a good deal of world-building. Story/Writing 8/10 The story, while I personally found that it could've been a bit more engaging in some areas, ispretty well thought out. It spins a tale of a genuinely amazing historic figure not getting the recognition and respect he deserves once he gets reincarnated, and how the actions of the few may horrifically distort history to the point that it makes society worse in the future. While at first it looks like a generic school setting, it manages to set itself apart from the overdone tropes the setting is often associated with, and it leaves that setting later on. There's a overhanging narrative about the evils and consequences of racism and classism, and while I do think it's good that the anime addresses them at all, I think it doesn't go quite far enough. Still, there's a good bit to like here. Characters 9/10 This anime has a subtle comedic tone, and it's characters sell it quite well. First, I want to address the OP main character himself, Anos. The ever-smirking Demon King has some of the typical characteristics of an OP protagonist; Arrogance to spare, condescending to pretty much everyone who dares interact with him, and absolute bullshit powers. However, these traits aren't as one-dimensional as they may seem; Anos truly cares about his allies and the world in general despite his title of Demon King, and he doesn't display his arrogance and condescension a lot at all to anyone who doesn't deserve it. He has power and knowledge far surpassing his peers, and yet he generally doesn't show it unless the situation calls for it, at which point he pretty much shows off. He truly seems like a wise king who truly cares about his own people, though he might put people who seriously wrong him or other good people through hell in order to get them to seriously think about what the hell they've been doing. He also really seems to like his mother's mushroom gratin. Good on you, Anos. Outside of that however, the rest of the cast manages to dig themselves a good spot as well. I liked the Necron sisters and their main arc in particular, though I wish that Sasha didn't stay a tsundere for the rest of the show. Visuals 8/10 Nothing bad, but not much outstanding either. It was nice watching the (sometimes rather short) fight scenes, and the designs were nice to look at. I may also like cat form Ivis a lot. I like cats. Enjoyment 8/10 All of the above things made for a show I generally liked quite a bit, and it made me excited to watch the second season. As someone who believes a show has to be enjoying above all things, The Misfit of Demon King Academy is a win in my book. There's not much else to say here. All in all, this show was an enjoyable thing to binge-watch on a Sunday afternoon, and I'm glad it didn't fall into the pitfalls of the genre it follows. I'll be gladly awaiting the completion of the second season.
Quite simply this show is just enjoyable. It is just a fun and entertaining show, which sometimes is all you are looking for. If you want some quality entertainment that doesn't take itself too seriously, then feel free to indulge. If you want something more serious then move on, but this show knows what it is, it leans into it and allows you to enjoy the ride, which I did thoroughly. To add some more depth, quite frankly the MC is a refreshing/hilarious and his one liners never cease to entertain. However, despite being extraordinarily overpowered, the side characters are always allowed and even encouraged toexhibit growth/character development which ends up allowing you to become invested in all of the characters. Also the MC parents in this show are second to none. Overall, here's to hoping for a second season!
Should you watch this anime? Absolutely (not?). This is both the worst and best anime I've ever seen. The plot is a rushed and confusing mess, the characters are nothing interesting and it's filled with dumb shit. However, it has been one of the most fun anime to watch. Not in a holy shit, this is so good way but in a batshit, turn your brain off fun way. The main character is so OP it's almost funny, he's likable, doesn't take shit from anyone, and isn't fucking stupid. The side characters, while they aren't very interesting, are not dumb and the women aren't justthere to swoon over him... Well, he does have a fun club so idk about that last part to be honest. If you only enjoy shows that are critically good and can't just turn your brain off to enjoy them, you will not like this anime. It's not a masterpiece and my critical rating would not go any higher than a 6. If I, however, had to rate it with my enjoyment in mind it would be a 10/10. This show is a fucking experience and I loved every second of it. Anos is what I crave from OP protagonists and he definitely does his job well. Also, we got a hot MILF so that's a win in my book. Also, don't skip the opening last episode for a surprise!
This show is absurd, question is it is absurd enough? We have generic demonlord #641 reborn as the most OP of OPs and yada yada yada you know how this goes. Actually... so does the author of this series. It's clearly a comedy with the OP character dialed up to 13. I mean can you take any of this seriously = - Born literally one month ago. - Started talking in that deep male voice right out of the womb. - You know how the cool character spins a basketball on one finger? He spun a castle. - Killed someone with his heart beat. - Copy/pasted Hogwarts down to theowl system and the "mudblood" thing. On purpose, they are not spoofing or parodying it. I don't think this should count as spoilers since they all happen in episode one... yes really. Are you willing to take it seriously with this first episode?! It has something to say about classism as well as other messages like self worth and knowing who you are so I do appreciate that the power fantasy isn't the end goal, more the vehicle. The characters are weak. You have a spoof of Asuka and Rei from Eva. They even used the "I am not a doll" meme as a plot point along the line. Also when it's being sincere it just comes off as generic and a little boring, the absurd part are the best. This show is just fun. It knows what it is and aims to entertain with over the top scenarios.
If you're watching anime purely for the entertainment value then hoo boy do I have good news for you. Misfit of Demon Highschool is basically just that, no slow progressing plot, no linear storyline with interconnecting threads, just pure action with a complimentary dish of memes. This is basically the type of anime where you kinda just want to take a break from long running shows or emotionally engaging shows, where you kinda wanna just kick back and say "You know I kinda wanna watch something with edge but at the same time not really edge". This just hits that mark and man I gottasay I enjoyed every bit of this show for what it was and what it was most likely intended to be made for.
