Located at the end of the world, the Kingdom of Ozmargo is inhabited by beasts of all shapes and forms, ruled by a fearsome nameless king. After a hundred-year war between Ozmargo and the neighboring human kingdom ended, a peace treaty was signed: every year, a sacrifice must be sent to be devoured by the king on the night of revelation. Sariphi is the 99th and latest human sacrifice. Although frail-looking, she neither fears the king nor has a family or home to return to should she manage to escape from her impending demise. Intrigued by the audacious girl, the king lets Sariphi roam around the palace despite the disapproval of his advisor, Anubis. Little by little, the king and Sariphi begin to warm up to each other, but the night of revelation is fast approaching. Unbeknownst to them, the fateful day unleashes a series of events that will change the course of destiny of not only Sariphi and the king but also of their respective worlds. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Niehime is one of the most underrated anime of 2023 and it’s an absolute shame. This show has one of the best female MCs in recent memory. Along with a fantastic cast, rich world, political drama and a very well written romance. Admittedly, Niehime grew on me. I wasn’t in love with it from the start. I liked the world, but the age gap between the two leads was.. a bit odd to say the least. However, as they were both developed and more contextual information revealed I honestly forgot I was ever even upset about it. Life is not always black and white and contextmatters in these situations. Sariphi and Leo’s forbidden love is so well developed and grounded that I’d go out on a limb and call it one of the best in modern shoujo. Romance aside, the biggest selling point of Niehime is how strong and compelling a protagonist Sariphi is. Despite her being a human in a kingdom of beasts that despise her, she stands tall in the face of racism and wants not to abandon the kingdom, but make it a better place. Even though she has no magical abilities and lacks the physical strength that beasts have, she never backs down and is determined to change the culture of the kingdom. It’s always nice to see a female protagonist who isn’t waiting on someone to come save or bail her out, but making active strides to improve her situation and that of those around her. Little by little, Sariphi melts the hearts of even the most steadfast bigoted beasts and recruits ally after ally to her side. Can’t stress enough how much I appreciate her character. She’s not a damsel in distress but the driving force behind so many events in the story. Acting as the perfect pillar of support for Leo. Speaking of Leo, as I began to touch on earlier, he and Sariphi’s relationship is extremely well done. They both compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses perfectly. Despite coming from totally different backgrounds, we see that they have so much in common and are able to relate to each other in a way that no one else has before. Obviously there’s shades of beauty and the beast with their relationship, but it quickly separates itself from the Disney classic with its depth. Think of it as Belle and the Beast but with an actually well written relationship with way more substance. I loved seeing Sari and Leo’s teamwork develop over the course of the series. They have such a profound sense of trust with one another based on mutually shared hardship that makes it all feel more natural. The world of Niehime is also extremely rich. The beast kingdom is diverse and full of various races who have been traditionally segregated and discriminated against. It’s not until Leo’s reign that equality was guaranteed for all. The political intrigue and negotiations between Ozmargo and other constituent domains was fun to watch. It’s hard being king when not everyone respects you. It creates some unique challenges for Leo that with Sariphi’s help, he’s able to overcome. The human realm was only briefly touched on in the anime, but also has its own unique history, culture and political situation that I wish we got more of. Hopefully in a second season that will be expanded upon especially with the lore drops that we got towards the end. There’s a ton of really good supporting characters in Niehime as well. As I said, Sariphi makes a lot of friends and creates important political alliances in her role as acting queen. I really liked how well written most of the characters are. They all feel unique and play big roles in the story. What they all have in common is that Sariphi gradually melted the ice around their hearts. HanaKana gives one of her best performances as Sariphi. She perfectly captures this “I may be cute, but I’m not a pushover” energy and I couldn’t imagine the story without her. Satoshi Hino’s Leo is great as are the other characters. There’s so much energy they’re able to convey in scenes which only heightens the emotional impact. There’s surprisingly good sakuga in the show as well. While action scenes aren’t the primary focus, in the few big fights that are in the show, they’re all great. A reminder that JC staff are behind the show. Unlike many other shoujo stories, Niehime doesn’t rely exclusively on romance and cutesy tropes to sell itself. It instead focuses on creating an immersive world, well written characters and a genuinely gripping story with a strong female lead. I think we only scratched the surface of this series and I can’t wait to start reading it. It is without a doubt one of my favourite anime of the year and it’s a shame it didn’t get the attention it deserved. Wednesdays may have been packed in both seasons it aired, but it was near the top of my heart. Niehime gets 9 out of 10.
By far one of my favourite manga and anime series of all time. It's an adorable and gorgeous story of two hurt people finding love in both themselves and the many friendships they grow. If you want a tooth-rottingly sweet romance between a 'monster' and a human this is more or less the pinnacle. This is not really an angsty romance anime though, so if you're looking for some sweet sweet romantic pain this won't be your best choice, but I still think you'd enjoy it for the many other reasons for which this anime is great. If you liked series like Akatsuki No Yona (Yonaof the Dawn) or Shirayuki - Akagami No Shirayukihime! (Snow White with the Red Hair) this is a must-watch.
One of those stories that just really *makes you care*. Care for the characters, care for the world building, care for the side characters, care for the cute airhead and the softhearted big guy to have lots of cute kids. Its really hard to make me genuinely care for a story like this, and sadly, wholly subjective, I would still ask you to watch this regardless. The plot is a typical story of romance and acceptance, and well executed at that, not unlike the Beauty and the Beast, which it is being compared to left and right, but also quite unique in its execution. Also, fluffy furry designs leftright and center, I suppose you already know if thats an added benefit for you or not!
Beauty and the Beast in movie form: it's the classic Disney fairy-tale princess story of love and romance between a human and a beast. Beauty and the Beast at home: Niehime to Kemono no Ou a.k.a Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts. The classic Shoujo romance by-the-book retelling fantasy with the touch of anthropomorphism Even from the very beginning, mangaka Yuu Tomofuji's work-turned-anime was one of the Spring 2023 shows that not a lot of people were talking about, especially in the wave of more notable shows like the season's biggest hitters of Oshi no Ko and Kimetsu no Yaiba's continuation. Even worse, drama and romanceshows like Skip to Loafer and Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu a.k.a The Dangers in My Heart easily appeal to the wide audience range being newer works than this one, being a traditional romance fantasy that'll appeal more to the fans of Disney's classic Princess fairy-tale series of movies, written and serialized from November 2015 to October 2020, capping at 89 chapters in 15 volumes. And while J.C.Staff's production looks awfully simple with female director Chiaki Kon at the helm, I'd argue that the show's simplicity works well to its regard by keeping it simple. The soul of Niehime to Kemono is exactly where its narrative lies: the relationship between humanity and beastkin. In the typical fantasy world where humans and beasts are locked in at least a breakout war that ends in devastation and loss of life, the consensus between both realms is that the annual tradition is imposed where every year, a female sacrifice would be sent to the beast realm of Ozmargo to be eaten by the King of Beasts. This tradition would go on unbroken, that is until the 99th sacrifice: 15-year-old Sariphi. The miasma-filled realm where beasts live and human entry is forbidden, surprises the King of Beasts that this young woman being so unafraid of death imminent, he broke the tradition and placed Sariphi under special conditions, even though her fate has been sealed the moment she left the human realm of Yoana. But little does Sariphi and the King of Beasts, which the former eventually gave him the name of Leonhart (meaning "brave heart") and being named as the Queen Consort of Beasts, know that this unseen trajectory of theirs will re-shape the entire landscape between humans and beastkin in a huge way. In many ways, Niehime to Kemono is your typical human-beast fantasy romance story that, as dated as Yuu Tomofuji's work seems to be and looks like, it gets the job done: simple, super safe, but straightforward. Where Niehime to Kemono does well is in regard to its many characters, aside from both Sariphi and Leonhart (shortened to Leo) making the big changes that'll affect everyone and everything going forward. The 15-year-old petit young girl may not be a princess nor appreciated by the masses as an abandoned orphan who has no family nor friends, but what she does have is a compassionate heart that's fueled by courage to dream for the impossible, aside from her upbeat and positive personality on life that makes her love and embrace Leo a lot. Compared to the King himself, Leo acts like what a beastkin king should be with his stoic and aggressive behaviour, but deep down, he's a rather gentle and benevolent king to those who are very close to him, which is supported by a secret that only Sariphi knows. Other than his unwavering commitment to Sariphi that she has pulled through many of the inhumane conditions set by his most trusted advisor: the pharaoh-hound inspired Chancellor Anubis. The criticisms of Leo choosing a human queen is as valid and far as the eye and mind can see and comprehend, and while Anubis may be a tough nut to crack for Sariphi being hard-headed and steadfast to tradition, as Sariphi proves over time, so does him in his loyalty to Leo, even in the face of adversity. Sariphi has no shortage of supporters within Ozmargo, starting with the Cyclopian clan of Cy & Clops. Cy is the eye that speaks of few words, and Clops is the mouth who does all of the talk, and together, they work like a well-oiled machine. Next, is Princess Amit of the Reptile clan, with whom she quickly befriends Sariphi, and also is captured by the alluring attention of Ozmargo's Royal Guard captain Jorgunmand, who, like Chancellor Anubis, Leo entrusted the beast army's command to him, which he swears fealty to him. To aid her in her royalty pursuits, Leo gave Sariphi a Holy Beast in the form of Bennu, a phoenix-like beast that, as crude as he is always in his plump, bird-like form, he trusts Sariphi in whatever she's always up to, as well as making the hyena of Lanteveldt (shortened to Lante) be her personal guard. Despite the Hyenians being despised by both humans and beasts alike, Lante does not care and is proud of his blood while sporting a laid-back personality that fights for true justice, the same expression as Sariphi. The devil is in the details, and despite the human girl having her own typical human love interest and racking up friends and enemies along the way, she goes all-in on wanting to help beastkin reconcile with humans, and that is her ultimate goal as the Queen of Beasts. How can you find a calm and collected human, much less a 15-year-old, who can stand up to the heft of beasts who were once slandering her in hate, turned into love, admiration and adoration as the perfect candidate to make a noteworthy difference to all? Not gonna lie, I do have concerns when it comes to the long-time veteran J.C.Staff director of Chiaki Kon. If you don't know anything about her, her past directorial history is very rich, adapting works like the classic shows of famed BL mangaka Shungiku Nakamura's Junjou Romantica and its spin-off of Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi a.k.a The World's Greatest First Love, as well as the very well-known J.C.Staff produced shows of Nodame Cantabile and Golden Time. But as of recent years, she has developed a reputation for disappointing adaptations like Back Street Girls and the very egregious Gokushufudou a.k.a The Way of the Househusband, which is heavily panned for its limited animation, resembling more of a motion comic rather than anime. Other than the short series of Cool Doji Danshi a.k.a Play It Cool, Guys, which its web manga narrative fits the anime well, it feels like she went back to the Gokushufudou treatment for Niehime to Kemono here. And while it's technically a complete-but-incomplete adaptation of the entire manga, the 2-cour, consecutive 24-episode series is fitting enough...if they only had time to create just 1 or 2 episodes more to flesh out the unadapted sections of the manga. Of the OST that was composed by famed Anisong composer Kohta Yamamoto, the music was also done fairly well, and it doesn't let loose on the plot-driven action and drama that escalate as the story goes. I especially love the series' 1st OP song of BIN's "Saku no Nie" (translated to Sacrifice During the New Moon), which its themes perfectly fit the narrative from the get-go, both from a visual and musical point of view, as well as the simple 2nd ED song of Katagiri's "Call Your Name", which is a soothing song that speaks to the heart. The other theme songs (even GARNiDELiA's 1st ED song), just seem so Shoujo-ish that it only fits in the name of being targeted to the Shoujo demographic first and foremost. But overall, it was a good showing. I'm not gonna lie that there wasn't any hype made for this show, even back from the very start of the anime. It's for sure that the Shoujo demographic has its fans, but its fanbase is of a rather small size as well. Niehime to Kemono is a show that'll only please those who've stuck around for the past 6 months, and for all that it's worth, it may be mangaka Yuu Tomofuji's only recognition to both Japanese and Western audiences. But make no mistake, it's just like Beauty and the Beast - the beauty of folklore "not being spunky" but winning over the fearsome beast with gentleness and a calm demeanour. A good traditional Shoujo fantasy romance, all things considered.
Never in my entire life have I ever made a review for a show despite having watched anime for a very long time now. By no means am I a professional at writing reviews, but the fact that I am willing to make a review for this anime goes to show my appreciation for it. For starters, this is a very underrated show that I happen to stumble across out of boredom. And as you guessed, it completely blew my expectations. It absolutely got me investing in it! A story is truly compelling when it manages to grasp your attention despite the characters not appearing thatvisually appealing to viewers (as viewers are likely to watch anime based on the appearance of characters; e.g. waifus & husbandos). The best aspect of this show to me is how the characters are well-written. The female lead here is a strong individual capable of drawing influence to others despite being a mere human that cannot compare to the power of a beast. Whereas the male lead is depicted to be relatively weak (in mind) despite having a very strong aptitude of physical strength. Both of these characters come hand in hand being missing pieces if not with one another, which makes it a very nice aspect for romantic troupes. In a nutshell, one of the aspect this anime teaches is that strength doesn't come with a display of power, but rather your own ability to harden your resolve as a person. Of course, the female lead doesn't start off as a strong character and the vulnerabilities of the male lead is neither visible at the beginning of the anime. However, that is all the more reason for you to watch it. To understand the emotions and thoughts of the characters as they are faced with obstacles are one of the reasons I enjoy reading and watching stories unfold. And this show has captivated me, re-assuring me that my love for stories are not in vain! For those that love to observe the development of characters and their romantic relationships, I would absolutely reommend this! 9/10 *I rated it 10/10 as it is very underrated. I absolutely cannot let this stay at a low rating!
This is one of the rare anime where you get to see proper character growth. Not in terms of levels (like most isekai) or by getting new superpowers/abilities, but as people. Sariphi has a unique way of seeing and experiencing the world that I honestly would like to emulate. She doesn't preach her values, she lives them. I love that she isn't just a damsel in distress, but someone who both stands by her beliefs and has the charisma to make people go along with her. Leo is not just a "toughie who learns kindness," he's a much more nuanced character who struggles with -and overcomes - his own weaknesses. And there's what I love to see most in a healthy relationship: communication. I loved watching these two talk to each other, overcome situations together, and grow together. A relationship in which both sides respect, trusts, and supports each other is a beautiful thing to see.
bruh 100/10. imagine a story where the characters fight against fascism within the world of monsters, while also trying to break the prejudice between monsters and humans. This is more than just an anime The characters are also all cool and have their own developments. I confess that my favorite is Anubis, but it's impossible for you not to like them all. If you give this a chance, i promise you won't regret it I definitely loved this universe, at times i even cried because it contained such fascinating and beautiful stories. I do not regret anything !!! btw, about anime art, i think they could haveimproved a lot of things, but that's not something that bothered me, in fact I'm still quite satisfied with everything about this anime
The Ancient Furry’s Bride. If you're interested in your Beauty and the Beast stories but anime, may I turn your attention to Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts? Set in a world where humans and beasts have been separated through war long ago, humans send a sacrificial maiden every year as part of a peace treaty to be eaten by the king of beasts. A sassy sacrifice called Sariphi intrigues the king after showing him no fear and after some of his deepest secrets are revealed to her, the king now named Leonhart announces Sariphi to be his queen to the dismay, confusion and angerof his various beastly subjects, including his most trusted adviser. Despite its simplistic exploration of racism and prejudice through the lens of a human surviving in a beastly land, it delivers its narrative through its excellent cast of characters. Of course, the two who stole the entire show are Sariphi and Leonhart. Sariphi is an excellent female lead who stands firm with her life literally on the line in the face of prejudice and misogyny in a kingdom that doesn't want her. She's not a damsel in distress who needs saving, but a vessel of change who actively seeks to make the beast kingdom a better place not just for Leo, but for everyone with compassion and understanding rather than with magic and force. Leonhart reigns through respect and fear as he's seen as the strongest beast, but deep down he is afraid of his position as a ruler due to his secrets which he only starts to come to terms with after choosing Sariphi as his bride and his support. They both complement their strengths and weaknesses in a way that is compelling to watch as their romance grows showing how much they care for and need each other. They’re also both so darn cute. Just little things like Leonhart cradling her with his tail and Sariphi becoming excited over how fluffy it gives them both so much personality. The supporting cast of Beasts is also rich and varied characters carrying their traumas from the prejudices they’ve endured. Beast society is almost laughably harsh to certain species of monsters such as hyenas, reptiles and whatever Cy and Clops are adorable though they may be and finding someone like Sariphi with her perspective after being abandoned by her own kind frees them from their shackles by accepting her. J.C.Staff did a wonderful job with this adaptation. Painted backgrounds, beautiful character designs and good animation go a long way to making that world feel lived in and fantastical. There's not much combat or heavy emphasis on movement in this show as it is essentially a Shojo political romance drama, but when the claws come the action is brutal and emphasised with sakuga. Some moments genuinely took my breath away. The biggest problem some viewers may find is the time needed for the show to grow on you. It took me a while to find a point where I felt like the show had grown on me and that was because of the pacing in the first part of the coeur. However, once the show has got its hooks in you, you won't be able to stop watching. I touched on it before, but I also think the absurd amount of outward hatred and prejudice not only by beasts towards other beasts and Sariphi but also by humans towards… seemly everything, tends to come off as cartoonish and undermine the show’s themes. I also think (without spoilers) the anime’s ending is a bit too abrupt. This is a complete story and won’t be getting a second season (as far as I’m aware) but it feels like an arc was skipped over as everything was achieved a bit too easily. Still, overall I think Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts is a really good example of a modern Shojo. It has great characters and some interesting world-building, and it is a really fun watch. Also no, there's no bestiality. You’ll understand when you watch it. 8/10 Great.
Really great anime you can see that every detail in the plot is polished to the best quality both lines and characters with great music, but from the beginning let's be honest opening and ending are great screened because of the fact that there are not a lot of spoilers are like a glimpse of what will happen in the later parts of the episodes and that's why I think it's great . When it comes to graphics there is nothing to talk about pleasant to the eye characters here the creators have not made a lot of progress our heroine Sariphi is nice nice isnot afraid to say what she thinks out loud always help everyone when they are in danger and these are the qualities of a true queen the real opposite of that whore from tate no yuusha with red hair but let's get back to our heroes is leo. Leo as for a ruler is well portrayed here he has everything a real king needs he is brave brave and most of all he knows how to love not that he is a king and chop suddenly he has 5 chicks;) only when he loves he loves tenderly his chosen one named selaphi when it comes to selaphi as for a human she is full of determination she fights against adversity and what I really like about her is that she is devoted to her king leo what mg say this anime is awesome you should try it because it is very underrated
It's a reimagined Beauty and the Beast, in 24 episodes. And it was excellent, I loved it. The anime isn't a masterpiece in certain aspects: the direction is simple, the animation is simple, the story is simple, the moral is simple... but it manages to touch my heart on many aspects that amply counterbalance all of this: The delicacy of the drawing of certain characters, the soundtrack: splendid at times, fitting well at every moment; the simple yet right writing, and the character writing which is also simple, but right—all this set to the gentle melody of a moral about what constitutes a people and against the notionof clan and race that might be seen as basic, but which, in these turbulent times, serves as a righteous reminder... and again, "right" is the word that best describes the anime. All of this is driven by a determined heroine who reminded me of the nostalgic times of heroines from fantasy anime like The Twelve Kingdoms. Well, here, with a touch of the "Beauty" from Beauty and the Beast, somewhat in her role as the beast's woman, but still excellent. It's not just this aspect that recalls the anime "of old time", because as many comments have noted, it's also one of the few "pure" fantasy anime of recent years: meaning not just another reincarnation anime revisiting the same old formula with variations, but true classic fantasy. So old, yet so refreshing. Adding to this, the anime manages to conclude perfectly in 24 episodes. What more can I say to sell it to you? ^^ In conclusion, it's a good little anime to watch, which isn't perfect in every way, but in my opinion, deserves a solid 9/10. Both OPs also hit the mark and are simply excellent.
This anime has our angelic FL, who looks like an angel, acts like an angel, and most importantly, has a heart that goes out to anyone and everyone. She heals those around her who are in pain, creating beautiful bonds and friendships in a foreign country, and with the King. I'm sure there will be arguments from people ranting about child grooming, but I just want to point out that if you strongly feel against this so much, then don't watch it, simple as that. If you feel that you would like to give it a chance, then hesitate no further. Even though Sariphi isyoung, she is more mature than any adult could be, and has also been through terrible experiences at the hands of the human family who raised her, making her grow up quicker than any other 15 year old girl. It is normal to think that such a girl would easily find comfort and love with the person who treats her well and respects her as an individual and not a sacrifice. I am not making excuses for child grooming as irl it is still despicable, but mind you, this is not real, and this is just my own view. Through the story, we can see the stories and experiences of people, who having met Sariphi, changed and corrected their prejudiced views towards both beasts and humans alike. We see the influence of our brave and kind FL around those beside her, and with the perfect concluding episode rounding everything up.

some of the beast women are hot im not that keen on the main ship, but after seeing them interact alot, I've come to the conclusion that his tail IS very fluffy and I DO wish I could know what it feels like. His human form is pretty offputting, but its luckily hidden away. same way the problematic age-gap is hidden by the king having an extraordinarily childish composition at the beginning. he comes off like a dog rather than an adult man. i think he might be a dog, and not a lion. the amount of fights is surprisingly high. they don't last very long, butthey're pretty cool. cus they're using claws and fangs and stuff. but its really all about the stunning beast women in the end
Pros: - several strong, unique and distinctly different characters that aid the story and have interesting relations with one another - strong leads that support one another in their weaknesses and strengthen one another throughout their relationship - strong morals that aid the plot - strong story and character progression Pro/Con: - They packed a LOT into one season. I would have liked to see more build-up and struggle within the leads relationship, but I was impressed with how much foreshadowing, story building, conflict and resolution was packed all into one season. Great if you love shorter anime and have a short attention span, not so great if you like likemore details and slower story progression. Cons: - some may not like how the main leads, despite their strongly defined character flaws are a little too perfect, they falter but they never truly fail and this does aid the story in "this character is unreal, better than real" but you are also never truly worried about if they will make it out ok - going along with the last point, the story could have stronger twists, they were a bit predictable Overview: (may contain slight spoilers but wont ruin any plot twists) It's beauty and the beast but the beasts rule over the humans and they both work to unite the two. There's so much packed in there in how they care for and change the people around them leading by example starting with each other and growing as the lady becomes a queen and has to win her subjects over. I also share a lot of problems with her and it's cool to see how they work that out and learn to trust and care for one another. It's a really interesting dynamic with her being queen too because the king just wants her to live a comfortable life and not have to endure hardship but in becoming queen, there are many responsibilities that she has to take care of and equip herself for and it's really cool to watch her grow into that role and see how the king learns to trust her in that pursuit. And the way she wins people through trusting her intuition and in the king and seeing them for who they really are past their exterior and believing in them and seeing how they show bravery in many different forms through the characters is super cool. bravery in having confidence in the way that you were designed even when everyone wrongly chastises you for it bravery in choosing kindness and to protect the weak even at the cost of power or status bravery in being vulnerable and open and understanding yourself and relying on your partner and some of the characters directly show their bravery in the ways that other characters are weak or struggle with so seeing them interact is like 😲 🫵 The unique and very through way the main leads care for one another and all of the content packed into one anime makes it fairly memorable. Overall a solid anime.
"Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts" is a visually stunning fantasy tale that subverts expectations at every turn. On the surface, it appears to be a story about Sariphi , a girl destined to be sacrificed to the ferocious lion-like King of Beasts to appease his wrath. However, the anime quickly takes the narrative in a bold new direction. When Sariphi is brought before the King of Beasts, she stands up to him with a nonchalant nature and refuses to be intimidated. To her surprise, the King of Beasts is moved by her courage and sees her as an equal rather than mere prey. What follows is an unconventional romance as they learn to understand one another despite coming from opposing sides. Richly detailed animation brings the unique world of beasts, spirits and magic to life. The fantasy land feels fully realized down to the smallest details. Impressive battle sequences showcase the beasts' ferocious powers and larger-than-life presence. Beyond its visually stunning qualities, "Sacrificial Princess" offers thoughtful commentary on themes of prejudice and cooperation. It challenges viewers' assumptions around concepts like sacrifice, beastliness and royalty. The complex relationship between Sariphi and the King of Beasts evolves in unexpected yet satisfying ways. While the story starts as one type of fantasy tale, it evolves into so much more. Fans of shows like "Princess Mononoke" will appreciate its blend of breathtaking imagery, adventure and insightful social perspectives. "Sacrificial Princess" is unforgettable for how it subverts tropes to tell a truly unique story about unlikely bonds triumphing over old divisions. Definitely recommend for fans of the 'Beauty and the Beast' troupe.
There was a lot to like about this anime. The characters were solid, the story had a good structure to it, and there was plenty of drama and some comedy to go around. Even when the plot was slow or felt predictable, I kept returning each week because it was strong enough that I wanted to know how it ended and it did have a satisfying conclusion. That said, its biggest weakness was its predictability. As with any story where a non-native bride begins to change a monarch and his country, there were expected plot points, villain types, etc...to contend with. At times it madepotential suspense or drama weaken because it was obvious what would happen or how a character might react. However, despite its predictability, it was interesting to see how being set in a humans vs. beasts world affected these tropes and inevitabilities. The uniqueness of the characters saved the story and gave the details of these tropes and plot points enough pizazz to not get too boring. If you love this type of castle intrigue romance plot then I think you'll be pleased with this anime. You probably will also like it if you love human/beast kind of stories. If you feel like you can't sit through this kind of trope fest, then this might be worth skipping.
I love romance and fantasy anime—especially when it features anthropomorphic characters and a main character with a troubled past. What really gets me is when that MC has a counterpart who's understanding, empathetic, and helps bring out the best in them. This anime delivered all of that and more. I absolutely LOVED it. The character dynamics were engaging, the story flowed beautifully, and the emotional beats hit just right. What stood out most to me was the MC: a well-balanced guy who wasn’t just emotionally complex, but also deeply loyal. He hung out with his close friends, and they had his back during the toughest moments. And when it came to his betrothed, he was nothing but gentle, respectful, and kind. If you're into fantasy romance with emotional depth, strong character relationships, and a touch of the anthropomorphic, I highly recommend giving this one a watch.
While it has its moments, it often uses common tropes and plot points we've all seen in really safe and predictable ways. The main character is a bit generic, and the characters fall into usual tropes. Honestly, I usually have a lot to say about stuff, but for this one it's fun enough, but I can't really think of too much it excels, or fails at. Other than generic premises, and playing it safe, the show is entertaining if you like a feel good romance story with nice character designs. I woke say the site kinda peaks around ep 12. The rest was entertaining enough for meto finish it. It's just, a lot of plot points seem to come out of nowhere, and rushed since they need to get that arc done. Overall I do recommend it if you want a chill romance and like the character designs.
It's a pretty decent romance anime, but probs the best you'll get for furry anime... not really even joking(not a furry for clarification). Animatiopn is fairly fluid, but not a whole lot of flash. What little flash is present is decent though. An good enough amount of detail to tell someone cared about this anime, but it's nothing amazing. Characters have a fair amount of depth, and are fleshed out a fair amount, but still feel like more could be done with the cast, their backstories, and better building up the characters. Story is fleshed out enough, but I do wish there were more worldbuilding and some more depth to the plot. Pacing is good, not great. Engaging, but perhaps a little rushed especially towards the end. I feel like more world building and giving some more time to the events of the last 12 episodes could have been beneficial. Voice acting was just okay. The main character can be a little shrill, and in general there were no real standout performances. Leonheart's VA matched the character with a decent "accent", so at least it was fairly well casted. Soundtrack was really good, but not nearly enough of it. There was a lot of reuse of tracks, and while the reuse was fairly competent in it's application, the anime could use a few more tracks to round it out. Ops/eds range from good to great, very enjoyable. Overall it's a decent anime. Not as polished as I would prefer to see, but competent and enjoyable despite it's flaws. I would have liked the plot have more detail and the twists be a little less obvious, but would watch more of this if they were to make more. 6.65/10 Dubbed
