After falling asleep while playing an online game, a man wakes up and finds himself transported to that game's world as his in-game character, Arc. He wastes no time adjusting to his new environment, but soon realizes that he is using the skeleton avatar he chose when creating his character, which forces him to hide his visage to avoid unwanted attention. Arc goes to the nearby castle town of Luvierte, hoping to become an adventurer and take on quests to earn money. With his overpowered abilities, Arc embarks on a fantastical journey—exploring diverse territories, looting various monsters, and helping people get out of sticky situations. However, his seemingly innocuous actions may soon involve him in a brewing large-scale conflict that will forever alter the fate of the realm. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Looks like I have to play the Devil's Advocate in this one since everyone HATES this to oblivion. AYEEE BONE ISEKAI DADDY IS BACK...yet again, not like so, that many people are hating this the way that Goblin Slayer is much maligned from the get-go. And yes, I will admit that Overlord (that has Season 4 coming up next season) plays a huge part in novelist Enki Hakari's only derivative work that is this show, while actually playing the "goblin rape game" much earlier than Goblin Slayer, and the plot to Gaikotsu Kishi-sama a.k.a Skeleton Knight is simply just that. And you thought that Goblin Slayerwas the first to do this (well, technically it is through anime). It must be said that there're two camps in this one: - The overt haters whom feel that everything done in this show gets a free pass, from the unnecessary and over-the-top rape to the simple-minded run-of-the-mill standard OP MC that doesn't question his very own existence of why he's literally Isekai-ed to begin with, only to know that this is his starting point and so thus says the story of his adventures in another world. - The minority (like myself) that likes this show for all of its flaws, yet somehow "choose to believe" that we would get an alternate Ainz Ooal Gown-like skeletal character that displays similar themes to the former and being self-aware that everything "falls into place" quite nicely for his progression like a typical RPG character in a world so vast that he's able to do things on his own. Givem by the source material's title, one would've led to believe that this is also the influence derivative of Kei Azumi's Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu a.k.a Tsukimichi (focusing on the "Isekai e Odekakechuu" portion) since that source material also came out on Syosetu much earlier than this series (2012, as compared to Gaikotsu Kishi-sama in 2014), so it's very clear that Enri Hakari had clearly thought this through for his lone work to be a copy-paste of similar works like those mentioned, but that's where the similarities end for nothing more than just a passing resemblance. And this is where lots of people have many issues with this show, and let me address these issues in distinct detail. Arc for a OP MC, he's just like Ainz when comparing against his true skeletal nature in the fantasy-like world, but yet doesn't have enough personality to plan and think of his journey in the fantasy world he's been Isekai-ed to, and this has to work in a two-fold way: purpose and motivation. Normally in an Isekai series like Tsukimichi or even Overlord for that matter, the MC has a purpose of why he/she's been transported to another world because of reasons unexplanable that they have to find the answers for themselves, while gaining allies and crushing enemies along the way to get to the desired answers that they've been looking for. Enri Hakari however, plays this game differently with Arc being the stereotypical Isekai-ed player whom is like your stereotypical simple background NPC in an RPG with no backstory or whatever, and only serving as a guide to progress the story that he's been in, thus letting the story weave itself with actions done. The context of my understanding is that we've seen too many Isekai stories do this the same time over, but depending on the series' stature, they can either pass or fail to contravene back to the origin story of why they're here in the first place. Thus, giving Arc a character that's without a backstory of his own (just the simple Isekai formula over and over) can feel empty and purposeless, but that I believe is also the charm for motivation for Arc to do the things he likes to do: to roam around towns and cities, get in trouble by saving helpless folk (which I have to agree that the rape aspect happens too much for nonchalant drama), and ultimately help people serve their purpose with his moral behaviour and massive magic. Arc is just a character that feels shallow no doubt, but the extent of his reach is with reasons justifiable, and IMO I don't mind an predictable-yet-exaggerated MC that knows what's he doing to provide his own source of entertainment mixing comedy and seriousness for motivation, and that I feel, is just about enough. And what says tropey more else than having elves as the central root cause of the problem in this story, which after watching both SAO and Goblin Slayer, it's already known to be a mindless trope that's used for nothing more than edgy story plots just for hype. And Arc's companion character Ariane Glenys Maple is simply just that: an elf warrior whom has knowledge of the world's wicked doctrines of slavery and extortion against elves since they make for easy targets of manipulation and prostitution (which this debacle doesn't seem to end in many stories like it), and saving her kin from the horrid oppression of their treatment. The whole elves scale has nothing wrong with it, though I feel that its use is only justified because of the standards of what Goblin Slayer has put as through to ensure that if you watch a story involving elves, you can't help but hearken back to it for the never-forgotten treatment that is a nightmare then, and still is now. As usual, with female characters, the appeal is always in the physique, and Ariane has the unmistakable woman appeal that would be a love-potion kind of nauseating effect to those looking for some fun with her. But Ariane is headstrong and an elf woman of honour, and seeing her position as the two commit together in saving the elves, you can't help but like her character a teeny bit, although being weak to liquor is often the easiest way to identify the cutesy side of her. For one, pet characters like the cotton-tailed fox Ponta don't get enough love, which the world refers them to as "spirit characters". If there is one character you can't help but to gleam it, it would certainly be Ponta for being this massive beast that has gone out of control, only for Arc to encounter and heal it, thereby signaling its attachment with him and being a character to signify his goodwill, something that's rare since spirit creatures are never meant to form attachments with humans and even beastkin. Ponta is easily the highlight of the show, and what's there not to love about pet companions that can help the characters out to smell and alert danger? Just put it as the poster pet, and there you go. Skeleton Knight's world is very evil, wicked and filled with disillusion of a stereotypical kingdom that places no regard for people other than their very own, and that's not just to say that the royal family has infighting as well to rid even their own kin if the objectives don't align. It's the usual selfish behaviour which justifies the work that's needed to be done through many backdoor deals like betrayals and assassinations, just to prove a point that the world that the "heroes" (Arc, Ariane, plus others like ninja girl Chiyome) are in for a sinister plot that needs to be dealt with. Yet again, you can bet that this storyline serves no favours to the overarching plot that's shrouded by the shallowness of the character writing, that somehow in its entirety, comes together to concoct a show that knows what it wants to be, and acts out accordingly to Keikaku. It's not wrong, but to the many, it'll feel like Skeleton Knight is a mish-mash of many storylines and genres done together, that the result is one inconsistent mess of a show that doesn't know what it's trying to be, and all for a make-believe sham. However, I have to give credit where credit is due, and that's with the production values of Skeleton Knight. Starting with the acclaimed director that is Katsumi Ono, he's heralded the storyboarding for the original Yu☆Gi☆Oh! and 5Ds, directed the entirety of the Symphogear series (except the first) and most recently, the Hypnosis Mic rap battle anime, so you know that he's a perfect fit for over-the-top good or bad story and plot that doesn't care about anything else than making it stand out in the most magnifying way possible, and he most certainly has done that. Despite being a 2D-3DCG mix studio, Studio Kai's production is generally good for the most part, and I've pretty much gotten used to the 3DCG from the studio's days of starting out anime production majority in 3DCG with Netflix's Mushikago no Cagaster a.k.a Cagaster of an Insect Cage. And being a co-production with HORNETS (which has assisted in Satelight's Winter 2020 show Somali to Mori no Kamisama a.k.a Somali and the Forest Spirit), honestly I can't tell the difference of an alliance work that still manages to pop its production, though it's probably safe to say that it got the job done as intended. And where else to give credit than the music, and being exuberant in the most ear-piercing way ever. A few of you would heard of PelleK before, but if like myself that you're new to who he is, PelleK is a very popular YouTuber who's done many notable and popular song covers since 2011, ranging from Anisongs to even world-renowned mainstream songs, and Skeleton Knight is his first ever big break in being officially recognized as an Indie singer, the likes of MindaRyn and such. I can tell you that his OP is just as over-the-top as it comes, packed with SFX because why not, and contrary to popular belief that having sound effects in an OP breaks the flow of the titled song, but in Skeleton Knight's case, it is an ABSOLUTE BANGER with PelleK's high-vocalized insanity that's a perfect marriage with the SFX for that intended bombastic effect, and it is honestly cool to hear another YouTuber having a debut with an official Anisong that doesn't disregard the reputation he's built for all his life. One of my favourite girl idol groups are back, and DIALOGUE+ didn't spare their vocals with the ED, which has been composed and produced by kz of livetune Vocaloid fame, who's been in composing song collaborations for high-profile artistes like ClariS and Maon Kurosaki. Honestly though, this OST is definitely a link by being over-the-top superlicious, and if you have to highlight what's great about Skeleton Knight, the music aspect would be it. When all is said and done, while I can agree with the general press that Gaikotsu Kishi-sama a.k.a Skeleton Knight has nothing new to offer to change the perception of the Isekai genre in its entirety with edginess being its prime that reeks of mediocrity and burning flame dumpster fire, it does the one thing that it knows best. And that's to be a fun and adventurous Isekai that doesn't question origins, yet leaves behind the possibility that one can carve out his/her own adventure filled with surprises and wonders, saving the world, dismembering enemies with insane power, and above all, experience what it means to be an otherworlder in a free-roaming world akin to an RPG. This is generally not a pleasant watch, but if you can stomach this, it's honestly low-key decent.
If I had to describe Gaikotsu Kishi in one word, that word would no doubt be "infuriating." Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu is the most generic power trip isekai imaginable, but this time with a twist: the main character is a skeleton! Incredible. It truly is an ingenious choice, as without being a skeleton Arc would be the least interesting character of all time. Besides for Arc's overly formal speech patterns, I struggle to come up with even a single aspect of his personality. He has no discernible motivations for anything he does, and neither does he seem to care about much of anything. Afterbeing isekai'd he just decides "oh okay I'm gonna live here now :)" and that's it. The entire reason the second half of the show happens is because he goes "oooh elf! fantasy! woohoo!" and decides to tag along with Ariane and see what happens. It's like the author literally could not care less. Speaking of Ariane, she is the only other actual character in this show. Her defining features? There's two of them, and they're both on her chest. Classic anime moment. These two dogshit characters act out an equally dogshit plot. Arc is supposed to be pretty much the most OP being in the universe, and that is demonstrably true given that every time he fights he wins in like one attack. But now our not very intelligent author has hit a roadblock: "how do I create any sort of tension or conflict when my main character is super duper OP?" To solve this predicament, the author has decided to have Arc literally just sit there and do nothing. Arc sees a group of ruffians kidnapping elves? He just sits there and watches when he could kill them all in one hit, just so that Ariane can have her epic entrance. Some weak as shit minor antagonist has popped up in episode 11? Arc has to just stand there and watch him talk for literally the entire episode, when instead he could kill the guy in 0.25 seconds. This, of course, is because we wouldn't have a 24 minute episode if Arc just killed the dude. In that same episode, some beast creature is about to clobber a passed out Ariane. What does Arc do? Does he use his instant teleportation skill to block the attack? Does he just kill the monster before it can attack? Nah. He just stands there, so that some other side characters can show up to save the day. There is no justifiable reason for anything to happen the way it does, other than that the author is lazy as hell and has no idea what he is doing. Everything anyone does is done for the sake of plot convenience. The characters are quite literally used as plot devices, rather than being actual characters with coherent thoughts and motivations. In conclusion, I hate this show and it pissed me off. Thanks for reading.
TRIGGER WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT Skeleton Knight in Another World is another shitty Overlord clone with an added creep factor. All of the villains are sadistic rapists and murderers. From the first minute to the last episode, the excessive sexual assault scenes are drawn like sexy fanservice and framed as titillation for men. It's disgusting, awful, and uncomfortable to watch because it is grotesquely fetishistic and does nothing but remind you the creators don't care about victims. Anime is infamous for sexualizing rape to appeal to the lowest common denominator rather than portraying it as it is; a brutal life-altering crime. "But it's entertainment" no, it's creepy, andit's lazy writing. Every female character (even the ones with swords) is victimized or threatened with sexual assault. The vast majority of the plot is repetitively spent rescuing enslaved elf girls wearing nothing but tattered clothes. Filling the whole anime is its constant glorification of sex as violence. The way they dehumanize everyone except for the dull protagonist gives the impression that no one else matters. Arc is another average isekai hero who leads the generic plot, which is just one predictable encounter after another. He is merely a collection of isekai cliches posing as a hero; a gamer trapped in his favorite role-playing game, girls fall in love with him for no reason, he is dense as a boulder, overpowered, and immortal. At least I can say that he's not a pervert. When his busty companion inevitably attempts jumping his bones (literally), he rejects her. This is not a harem despite how many boobs throw themselves at Arc, but his utter lack of personality traits makes him the perfect vehicle for a sexually frustrated viewer to live vicariously through. Despite his unusual appearance, he's such a lifeless protagonist. Any attempts at tongue-in-cheek jokes fall flat. Rather than delivering exposition through wordy internal monologues alone, he speaks aloud in his childish voice, confusing everyone around him, then quickly returning to his gritty mercenary voice. They copied this gag from Overlord, and it's never funny. The entire script is devoid of originality; it prioritizes tensionless fight scenes and fanservice over establishing backstories, developing its vapid characters, or building its unimaginative world. You can predict the outcome of every fight because they only exist to show how 'cool' the skeleton knight is. They even fail at that simple goal because the art is mediocre, and the animation is as dynamic as a slide show. Aside from Arc, the character designs are indistinguishable from other copy-pasted isekai fodder. Arc undermines the few unique action scenes by intruding to explain concepts we can witness and sort ourselves. We can't be trusted to see wolves attacking Arc using clones because we are simply too idiotic, or at least the creators think their audience is mindless. Any typical fanservice is overwhelmed by viscerally misogynist moments of fetishized violence. The frame lingers on women's cut-up bodies, torture, and sadistic punishments for no reason other than for your enjoyment. It ogles the women as they suffer and expects you to like it. That is the anime's real money maker. Its appeal has nothing to do with a "Skelton Knight in Another World" because the superficial title is nothing but marketing bait. I can understand the morbid curiosity about a trainwreck as vile as this one, but there is no pay-off. Only misery.
Skeleton Knight in Another World focuses on our hero who was a previous gamer being stupidly overpowered, so effort from this guy is thrown out the window. It tells the tale of a hero turned mercenary meeting all kinds of people he has only seen behind his computer screen. Arc, being an actual skeleton behind his in-game armour goes to experience the game world. As the story went on, he eventually meets the heroine, Ariane, who is on a mission to save her kind from humanity's cruelty such as trafficking, raping, etc. She teams up with the skeleton boi, who randomly agrees to go with herjust because he's bored as hell and together, they would save the elves. So, what are the good things about it? The art and animations look really good, being that it's handled by Studio Kai and HORNETS, it never gets to the point it's hard to look at, in the end, nothing too amazing to talk about. The action scenes are okay to watch and the characters look unique other than being Kirito-esque drawings. The story elements in this show are actually somewhat decent and are the reason why I kept watching other than the somewhat ok story. The problem with it is the characters. To start, Arc is so boring to watch, how is a nerd this good at doing the right thing and always staying logical. He has no clear motivation behind it, he clearly says that he has nothing to do other than experience the game world and disregard his past life. He gets excited when he looks at elves to the point it can get somewhat creepy. Ariane, on the other hand, is another tsundere who fails to be logical since she's so focused on saving her kind, that any sort of negotiation would fail to go in her head. She's forgettable since she has almost no depth other than your usual girl who is strong in her moments but occasionally requires the hero's help just so that the main relationship can sail smoothly as the story went on. Then, when I thought it wouldn't get any worse, the show decided to introduce beastmen into the picture, who are also being oppressed because why should elves only get the victim treatment, let's have them for the sake of fulfilling a fantasy. Even worse? The beastmen are NINJAS! Because the author has no idea to expand the world, he just conveniently introduces ninjas without any regard for the lore. Why is every villain in this dumb show have to be creepy like NTR level? Sitting behind hostages to disarm their saviours, torture them via sexual harassment such as tearing apart their clothes, and making dumb faces like they are about to have fun. It casually uses creepy villains as a way to ensure the story progress goes on, which just comes off as weird since they never managed to do it since the heroes always arrive at the last minute and go guns-blazing. Since the characters are one-dimensional and creepy, it becomes a chore to watch every episode of it. The story is heavily reliant on the dumb rape scenes, it's almost as if they want people to click on it. This, like any other isekai, goes into the trash bin for being too creepy.
"Hi there. It's me, Arc." -- the following is a brief paragraph or two on my overall thoughts, followed by spoilers about boring world building, the lead MC, and the creepy factor. reader discretion is advised. -- When the word "generic" is thrown at something, it's almost more insulting than calling said entity "bad". Something that's described as bad can still have that connotation of originality while generic media already has the disadvantage of being similar to other entries right out the gate. This isn't to say that that quality is an immediate reason for discouragement and original != good by default, there can be great reinventionsof something tried and true, but when we want to elaborate on something having a lack of uniqueness in a positive way, generic isn't the word that gets slammed on it. That being said, Skeleton Knight in Another World is generic. An isekai that takes a lot about the genre that makes it interesting and decides to just drop it all. A drab fantastical world, an overpowered MC that immediately accepts the fact that he's been forced to live in a video game, and moments that just feel disgusting. First, the world. Nothing about it is intriguing. Monsters are your typical fair: hydra, basilisk, boars, wolves, etc. The villages and environments are in the same camp. There's a whole subplot about the kingdom Arc, our MC, has found himself in about the royal family facing off against each other with differing views on how to handle elf-human relations and other aspects of governing. These moments are given such little screen time and barely impact our characters, there's no shock value or story building here - just future set-up that I doubt will pay off. You don't need to reinvent the wheel to make something awesome but Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu feels like it's not even trying. Next, the MC. Arc gamed so hard that he now finds himself in the video game he was playing as his avatar, a skeleton. Practically immediately, he reaches the conclusion that the outside world doesn't matter and accepts his new life. No regrets, no dwelling on the life before, nothing. The fact that he was a human on planet Earth before being a bucket of bones means nothing other than he knows all about spells and attacks and identifying monsters. So, with a brain full of knowledge, naturally every single enemy is defeated with ease, a few frames of flashes and a spell chant are all that are needed to defeat 90% of the opposition, at no point are there any stakes. He just says a word, does the thing, and boom, altercation over, let's go get a beer. Zero personality and no challenges to overcome, Arc is a great example of a boring protagonist. (Aside: him being 'cursed' as a skeleton can't even really count as an obstacle because he seems to have not much of a problem with it, it seems like just another quest he can take on) Finally, the shortest section, just a note on the creepy level. There are a few moments of sexual abuse throughout this show, hell, the first episode starts with just a warning and then someone ripping off a woman's dress... in this silly, fun isekai about a skeleton gamer. A lot of these moments drag on too long as our MC decides to just wait and watch in the bushes... excuse me? Sickening. A show that I knew from name alone I wouldn't enjoy, but thought I might give it a chance as I wanted the seasonal anime experience of indulging in a LOT. Definitely regret this one and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Remember when the Overlord franchise took the world by storm with a talking skeleton back in 2015? What if we have another talking skeleton as a protagonist living his life in a fantasy world? No, I'm not talking about Aiz but rather Arc, a skeleton knight covered in armor. Don't let your eyes full you because he's not a disposable game avatars from Dark Souls. Arc is a skeleton knight with an ambition but also a character who takes opportunities for his deeds. Still, what makes you want to get invested into Arc's character and the show itself? Watching Skeleton Knight in Another World is liketaking a journey as you venture into a world of unknown with our protagonist. If you put yourself in Arc's shoes, it becomes that much easier to understand his character and the story. That's because Arc himself is a laid back individual, who despite his appearance, isn't that much different from your typical otaku. Before you click play on the first episode, there's a few warning disclaimers I have to throw at you. Yes, this anime has some sensitive themes that relates to sexual harassment. It's actually a common trend to see characters (especially the elf race) being abused by thugs and bandits in their world. The first episode made it clear that Arc himself doesn't tolerate abuse inflicted on defenseless women so he springs into action to save them. Nonethless, just be aware that the episode has an recurring theme of Arc saving characters who are or have been violated. Second, Arc himself is an adventurer and that show itself doesn't seem to have any sort of endgame goal. He's not trying to defeat a tyrant, escape from this world, or become the game's most powerful avatar. Arc just wants to help the helpless so it's clear the anime has a loose plot, something that may hold viewers back from fully committing to the story. I can't read the author's mind but it seems they wanted to flesh out Arc's character as much as possible before we get a look at its other cast members. The most prominent of them is an elf named Ariane, who only gets short frames of screen time before making an official debut. Being an elf, she knows that her race is often subject to slavery, abuse, and violence. In her role, Ariane developed her fighting skills to defend herself and free other elves in her quest. The story intertwines her and Arc together on this adventure. Their first meeting isn't exactly friendly as Ariane holds a deep resentment towards humans while also lacking trust in Arc. But as their adventure ventures on, it shows that the two grew to care for each other. The anime doesn't make it clear how far their relationship develops although there are obvious hints of Ariane having feelings towards Arc. However, don't make an assumption that they become a couple or lovers. This isn't a romance tale in the slightliest. The author who managed to craft such a vibrant and colorful world didn't manage to capitalize their talent when making the rest of its cast. Outside of Arc and Ariane, is there really a character that truly felt relevant? Ponta may be listed as a main character but they literally have no personality as a non-human pet. The ninja girl Chiyome is introduced late in the show without much context about her character at all. The rest of the characters are mostly standalones that you'll see maybe once or twice and then disappear to be never heard again. Even Juliana felt like she's a disposable character despite her royal status. It appears when the author wrote the cast, they didn't put much effort into their personalities at all. Most characters in this show feels like NPCs you encounter on a side quest from a video game. A lot of this show relies more on its premise and honestly, it felt like the show lacked a true purpose. The main protagonist Arc is just there to do his good deeds while being accompanied by a pet and strong elf woman. Even if we put ourselves in his shoes, it will quickly feel like a chore of repetition. Let me ask this: do you ever get bored doing endless quests in an MMORPG? That's the familiar feeling I get from the overall progression of this show's plot and truth to be told, it really holds the anime back. At least the world setting has a colorful vibrant feel built on fantasy themes. Despite the amount of questionable content in the show, the world setting gives off a JRPG-like vibe that makes you feel like at home. The setting looks like it's been handcrafted along with its character designs. Obviously, Arc is the most noticable character with his skeleton features and armor. His appearance goes beyond just the looks as his personality also stands out among everyone. The elves in the show are delicate and as you may expect, appealing. Ariane and her mother are just two example. Unfortunately, the anime always puts the female elves in a vulnerable state so they represent the damsel in distress. Oh and as I said before, be aware of the sensitive content. There's fan service but presented in a more shocking matter than the traditional way. Watching this anime pretty much convinced me that some humans are more monstrous than the actual monsters themselves. Skeleton Knight in Another World is what you would get when the author wanted to tell a story for a skeleton knight but ended up getting to nowhere. Despite the colorful aura the anime gives off, there's quite a bit of controversial material. If you're uncomfortable with such content, then it's best to drop this from the first episode. Believe me, those content will feel like clockwork. However, it's not just the controversial content of this anime that holds itself back. It's what practically everything besides the technical elements that gives this show the score it deserves.
I don't know why but I totally loved this anime. Hope there will be a season 2. The story as it suggests is an isekai anime about a man who wakes as a skeleton knight and jis adventures in this new world. I guess it can be said as a just above average anime but still I felt it to be great. I still want to watch this more and see his absolutely high powers. The plot is a nice and simple one but it is a best anime to watch for all isekai lovers who just wantsto immerse in a fantasy world like me. Hope this review helps anyone to watch the anime and hope you find it nice.
Your typical isekai. Gamer gets teleported to video game world. He becomes his game avatar and inherits its powerful abilities. Its nothing special, but I still found it entertaining. The main character is a skeleton in large shining armor. He encounters an elf girl and helps her in freeing her captured kin. At the same time he’s trying to break the supposedly undead-curse his avatar has. Typically these isekai main characters are over powered. But they tried to change it up just a tiny bit. He is overpowered but not fully skilled. Meaning he does need to train. The story is not particularly deep or complex. But I wouldnt call itshallow either. There is a side plot involving the politics of some kingdom, aswell as siblicide. There is a lot of focus on female abuse. Attempted rape. Trafficking. Child abduction. But its not depicted in an untasteful way. Its just bad people do bad things. But justice do get served. If you’re into gamer isekai then you’ll probably enjoy it. If you’re not a fan of gamer isekais or isekais in general then this is not for you. Needs a season 2.
To fans of the isekai power-fantasy genre, Skeleton Knight will be an enjoyable 4 hours. Many call it a simple Overlord copy, and the reasons are not difficult to see. I had a hard time distinguishing the protagonist, Arc, from Ainz. That said, I feel a more apt description would be as a hybrid between Overlord and How Not to Summon a Demon Lord. There is perhaps a warning to be given about the portrayal of attempted sexual violence. The show literally opens with one of the most explicit and real-feeling scenes of attempted rape I've ever seen in a modern TV production. That being said, that felt like mostly shock value, because the rest of the show is relatively tame. There is other dark content in the show and disturbing themes do get explored, but nothing that will make your skin crawl. Skeleton Knight also makes use of copious amounts of 3D CG animation, but it's mostly fairly tasteful. The OP reminded me of the first One Punch Man opening. Although I was convinced it’s the same band, the singer is Per Fredrik Åsly, better known as PelleK, who is a Swedish singer and song writer. In principle, the guy is a YouTuber, much like Tay Zonday or Jonathan Young, and does loads of covers of anisongs – a weeb just like any other one of us. He was understandably excited when a Japanese studio picked him to make their OP. The song’s name is Ah, My Romantic Road. When it started playing during the climax of the final episode, it really hyped me up. Skeleton Knight was made as a collaborative project between Studio Kai and HORNETS. If you’ve never heard of either of these studios before, then that makes two of us. They don’t appear to have made anything else of note. If I were to make a comment on what the show feels like, I would say it feels very close to a Silver Link. production. All in all, I had a great time with this production. I can only hope you will, too.
Another poor adaptation of already not-great-not-terrible source. Some spoilers ahead. Story: basically you know it already: stupidly OP MC tries his best to be useless and humble. Arc, the protagonist, has insane powerlevel if you compare him with any being currenly living in the world, yet what does he do? Basically nothing. The whole anime follows the arc of our MC freeing the elven slaves. He can teleport anywhere by using his blink, he can kill anyone in one shot cause of overwhelming power he posesses, but instead half of the time he is nothing but a mere clown with stale unfunny jokes. No epic quests,no exploration, just a waste of time and one job he really drags on. Characters? Welp, they are all the same level of quality as the MC - all the villains are just bad, with no redeeming qualities. All the good characters are angels. No personality whatsoever. Art and sound - as you would expect, okay-ish + not great CGI that appears in very strange places. Enjoyment? Even for me, who read the source and found it slightly entertaining - the end result of this adaptation is just bad. All the bad jokes are stretched. Some moments straight up changed from being OK in original to be horrible in anime (for example the elf girl turning from a noble warrior to damsel in distress). I don't think I have noticed anything done right here. Overall - waste of time, don't even bother.
This series is nothing special. I mean that in the most positive way possible. It does nothing to differentiate it from other isekai that have been created and continue to be created. The basic premise is similar to Log Horizon in that the MC wakes up in his game world, but instead of trying to get out or return to reality he simply rolls with it. The idea here is that MC does not really care about going home and instead wants to explore this new world and have an easy life while doing it. Characterwise, this show is extremely adequate to lackluster. The main castis ok but quite small compared to other rosters. With only Arc (the MC) and Ariane (Main Female Lead) to carry the vast majority of this show as it is now, there is little in the way of chemistry or banter that elevates it to higher levels within the isekai genre. While a third character, Chiyome (the ninja) joins later in the series, the problem is too little too late as her addition to the cast does little to nothing to expand the chemistry and writing within the show. If anything Chiyome and Ariane go back and forth being the same character which is disappointing for a show that already lacks any significant cast. As a sidenote to the characters, the villains/antagonists of this show are easily the worst I have seen in a while. Most are introduced using poor tactics such as rape and slaughter in order to make the audience hate them but are neither a threat of any significance to the protags or used long enough to warrant ever being treated seriously. So in a show where the main cast is small and forgettable you have a villain cast that sucks and has no depth or level of seriousness to them. Great. This show is boring for those who want anything serious or even competent. It exists as another isekai that is mediocre enough to be enjoyed in the moment if you have nothing to watch, but is easily forgotten as soon as the outro plays.
This anime is like if a child (yes a kid) had an assignment to write an isekai, and didn't do shit for an entire semester, then busted an all nighter to turn in the assignment. Basically, take every generic idea ever and combine them into one show- except make it suuuuuupppeerrr boring. Right off the bat, this anime has a serious problem- and it's honestly one of my pet peeves; THE SHOW DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING. The MC? No explaination. Backstory? No. How do powers work? Never talk about it. Social standings? Shhh....no more talking. Speaking of MC- at the very least it answers the age-old question ofwhat would happen if a dumbass got reincarnated with super powers. One of the worse MC of all time. This dude might be borderline retarded if I was to be honest. If you got isekai'd, wouldn't the first thing you do is check your powers/abilities? Right? See how strong you are- make sure you know how to control your powers. Etc, etc. At the very least....but naw, this idiot decides to do nothing. In fact, his goal is do absolutely nothing, but eat and sleep- oh yeah and tag along with a busty elf girl cause why not. The dumbest part is that he finds out he can use instant teleportation, which is mad OP. But he never uses it in a fight to his advantage (in fact he gets his ass wiped against a milf elf with a wooden sword). Actually, there are straight up some dire situations he just forgets he has this ability. I tell ya- this MC must've been isekai'd without his brain. The show tries to paint him as cool and laid back, or something. But naw, he just comes off at a brain dead moron. Okay, whew enough. So the MC sucks. What about the rest of the anime? Does it save the show? No...not really. The rest is "okay". I say that because I watch so many iseaki and I know people want to hate, but honestly if still follows the basic cookie cutter outline of an isekai. Is it enjoyable? Hell no. But does it meet all the requirements. Sure, it does. But it doesn't have any personality. It doesn't have a story. It doesn't have any ACTION. My god the action sucked balls. Lazy ass animation with the most generic ass moves. If you want to at least watch for cool fight scenes, you're better off watching water flushed down a toilet. I think the funniest part is that the show straight copies moves from other animes, but I won't spoil it. It even tries to go Game of Throne, but hilariously falls flat with it's "backstabbing" plot line. Alright now for some positives if you still want to watch the show. Ponta and the busty elf girl (forgot her name, you will too). That's it. People say this is discount Overlord. Please don't insult Overlord like that. If Overlord was half as boring, it would still be better that whatever this is. Anyways, you've been warned. 5/10 (average) only cause I'm nice and am an isekai geek.
I’m catching up to Overlord as I write this review, and yup, this show is indeed a Walmart Overlord. Arc is basically Ainz but nicer, and Arc is overpowered as well. The cast isn’t too big, as it’s only Arc, Ariane, Chiyome, and Ponta basically, the other characters are so insignificant they might as well be specks in the wind. I enjoyed this series at first, but then it got rather repetitive as it’s mostly just saving various groups of people, usually elves, and that got dry rather quickly. My grading criteria: Story: /25 Art: /10 Music: /10 Characters: /20 Enjoyment /15 Thematic Execution /20 STORY: 11/25 Anothertypical isekai where the protagonist is overpowered and there is little to no reference to the person in the real world. Just your typical protagonist that goes around saving various people, and of course there are some companions like Ariane and Chiyome that also don’t have much of a distinct personality. The story is quite repetitive in that Arc gets hired by people to rescue their tribes, or to help them with a “quest”. The politics… I did not care one bit about the politics because it was all dialogue and little to no action. In fact, I barely remember what the politics are since the world building was so minimal. ART: 6.5/10 The fight scenes are cool sometimes, and the animation is ok, but there are too many still frames in fights, and that’s too bad. Guess the budget wasn’t that big. MUSIC: 8.3/10 The music is solid, and what I really liked was the ending theme but DIALOGUE+, one of my favourite endings of the season. CHARACTERS: 10/20 The characters are fun to watch, as the interactions are enjoyable, but they don’t have enough personality to keep me completely invested. Arc is kind of like Ainz from Overlord as he has his “knight voice”, and his inner voice that is more like a normal person. Ariane is fun to watch but also has little to no personality. The other characters have the same issues, as they’re just not memorable, and because they aren’t memorable, I barely have anything to say. They’re just fine, there’s nothing wrong with them, they’re just boring at times to watch. The villains are your typical clueless villains that aren’t that smart, and aren’t very engaging to watch. Arc, Ariane, and Chiyome usually finish them off in a matter of minutes. ENJOYMENT: 9.7/15 It was exciting enough at the beginning, but fell off as it got repetitive. THEMATIC EXECUTION: 11/20 The world building wasn’t too good, so all the political themes weren’t executed very well. The comedic themes are solid, and they make the series somewhat fun, the fight sequences are a bit unfocused as it just seems like the characters are having fun, rather than committing to fighting the enemy, it just seems quite casual. OVERALL: 56.5/100 A rather repetitive plot with a lot of rescuing, mixed with comedy, and a more “nice” Ainz. The start of the show was promising, but the repetitive and uninspiring plot lines, it became somewhat dull near the end. Yet another average isekai, with its ups and downs.
First of all, I feel that when this anime suddenly ended, I was disappointed and hurt, this is an exciting journey story, what are the characters Arc-kun and Ariane. Although this is still a cycle of legendary isekai fantasy, the story is the same as the others, but I can say this has a unique and interesting side, so you just watch it more. another thing, the animation is for some reason a little different from the other gifts, it's smooth and even the 3D is amazing. ohya I like the additional effects of the writing which is very suitable for Arc-kun. Story enjoyment? hey I told youthis is suitable for all of you, all of you who saw my reviews. I wrote this even a lot of things I wanted to write but all of them forgot, if from me I really enjoy the whole of it in any way.
Some people compare this series to Overlord since both of them feature a random guy being sucked into a surprisingly dark fantasy world as his overpowered skeleton character from MMO RPG. The similarities end there. Thankfully! First, let's make one thing clear - Arc isn't half as overpowered as Ainz. He's still legendary, but he lacks the endless layering of cheats that let Ainz trivialize each and every fight in series. Arc is still overwhelming but he actually works within the narrative confines of his story. Second thing I would like to discuss about Arc is his personalty. Arc is one of the most earnest andheroic guys in you'll find in modern isekai. People call him bland and uninspired, but I've never saw him that way. It's clear that his main motivations are his lust for life and sheer love of adventure. He's a guy given power of a titan and willing to use to save others! Watching this dufus enter grim and dark world and start to carve his way through rapists, bandits, slavers and monsters is pure pleasure. Arc is the kind of guy to obliterate a group of bandits purely because it's a right thing to do. As we can see in the first episode, the only hesitation he felt was trying to figure out the right tactics. He's not a perfect paragon or even a particularly uptight one, but watching dude shamelessly help himself to villains' treasures makes him feel like a proper old school fantasy hero. As for the rest of cast we have his main party: Lalatoya, the dark elf warrior seeking to free the elves taken by the slavers and Ponta, kitsune forest spirit hanging out with Arc after being healed by him. Their recurring allies are the beastmen ninja: Chiyome and Goemon working on their own quest against the slavers. Plot - the spoiler free description of the plot is: Arc arrives, tries to learn more about this new world without revealing himself and then, due to his desire to help people in need, gets involved in a conflict against slavers. All I can say without giving up too much details is that slavers are surprisingly good opponents, since dealing with corrupt nobles and saving prisoners requires something more than a raw power. Overall, this series is a genuinely great series, even if the initial premise is rather cheesy and all of the explicit content warnings shown are very much justified. I can recommend it, especially if you are bored with the recent influx of amoral and cynical protagonists.
This is pretty average, it is enjoyable 'enough' and it passes the time, but it is not great, it is not amazing. There is nothing truly new here, and normally that would be fine if well executed, but the quality is subpar. The animation is poor, at times it's just outright bad, the OST is pretty standard, except the OP which is this 80's style metal track that just sounds so dated now rather than sounding 'awesome' like it wanted. And the characters aren't given any real depth to them The story is fine, it does it's job and keeps some interest, but it feels like thereare pacing issues, and there are definite issues with this in its tone, as it wants to be edgy at times, yet it also wants to be goofy, and that doesn't really work. and I can see why people make comparisons to Overlord and Goblin Slayer. This series isn't 'bad', it's just a poorly executed mess, it's badly made, not really sure what it wants to be, but there is some enjoyment to be found if you are willing to look past all of that I wish it would have better used its central premise, its main gimmick, the idea that he is a Skeleton Knight just becomes a background detail.
This might be the most "meh" anime I've seen in a while. It's not terrible by most metrics and avoids some annoying isekai tropes (like harem, which is only present in most vague traces), but it also fails to set up a consistent tone or an interesting story. It tries to mimic Overlord's mature sensibilities with its violence, but doesn't really replicate the dark tone or high-stakes conflict. The protagonist is mostly annoying, more interested in fanboying over fantasy world than doing anything useful. I'd say I liked the female characters, but the main heroine, the elf, is slightly ruined by unnecessary tsundere outbursts. The plotis... Barely there, but at the same time there's too much location jumping and small events to make anything feel grounded. I don't remember anything about the first city Arc ended up in, most characters feel like a blur... There's just no personality to any of it. The elements sound good on paper, but there's no aesthetic or originality here to make anything stick with you. The production quality is okay... But some soul would also be nice. Far from being the worst isekai out there, but still very much skippable.
Potential Spoiler Story : Story basically start with generic approach like slayer anime (u know what i mean) when Mc save the day and kill bad guy. Man i see this a lot. Story rotate around the r*pe thing and slavery problem in whole kingdom with central command power basically Arianne. Then some random furry ninja who help them to kill bad guy. Also massive plot about succession problem (2 prince and 1 princess) when everyone literally plot each other. Just that, Generic right? yes, Boring? yes, Enjoyable? If you turn off brain because man, some part are not make sense. 5/10 Generic average isekai thing Art: The only thing good here is how smooth the CGI is. Art overall just like generic isekai anime. I give 10/10 so hard to animate CGI so smooth like that (see Arianne vs Arc battle at first meeting) Sound : No comment Character : All villain is same level as Online anime (You know what i mean). They are just disposable, 1 episode -> dead -> forget it. No much to tell what is villain objective is. This anime also fail to make villain actually memorable, this anime try to give back story about villain but still they are disposable by plot. Nice try but wont work. Arc is most generic isekai anime this season, No end goal, No personality, No desire. Basically just go follow river and died by river also. Arianne yea generic tsundere girl with massive melon, and again she is basically command every Arc move, nothing surprising, its also generic as hell. Furry ninja girl, no comment because she has less screentime, so cant judge it. 1/10 Fail attempt to make villain memorable and generic main cast Enjoyable : i rate 10/10 really fun to watch when turn off brain but at episode 11 basically i cant turn off my brain because man, its already pass my tolerance of no sense Overall : 5/10 Just overall generic isekai anime in this season. Its fun to watch when turn off brain but dont watch it for story, because u will be disappointed Do you recommended? Yes if u want something fun to watch, No if u want good story Do you want Season 2? No thanks, i prefer read this manga but story is generic so No also i rewrite my original Episode 3 review Thats should be all, Adios! My Original Review 9/10 at Episode 3 Story : Story itself kinda generic approach like the mc reincarnate to current world by sleeping and forget to turn off pc/whatever console maybe. We didnt get any info about his previous life or how can he reincarnate suddenly. Thats part kinda interesting for me. After 1st episode, Story i dont know author really like about r*pe plot thing because so far 3 episode u can see some r*pe scene (not r*pe yet but almost r*pe) at first episode princess almost get rekt, 3rd episode elf almost get rekt. Story itself so far very interesting because so far the only enemy in this anime is human, very rarely see monster, only 2nd episode and its work by human also. So far its pretty excited to see them Art : Not much i can talk, its just typical anime art Character : Character itself, i cant talk much because this anime more about action so they rarely talk to each. We have tsundere elf Maple (damn remind me with bofuri), ponta who like kurama from naruto and we have Arc who like Ainz from overlord. This is basically most epic crossover. so far Arc act like merc Enjoyment : Tbh its pretty enjoyable to see them, animation also so smooth, i barely see CGI involved here (but ofc cgi involve here) but still its top level (imo) Overall : i give 9/10 if they made it smooth no disaster i give 10/10, this is probably hiddem gems of this season. Also after watch this watch kongming, pretty vibe music actually hehe. Reason i tell you this is hidden gems, because noone talk about it and the isekai story take different approach with generic start Thats should be all. Adios!
This show... Is bad. But not for the reasons many reviews mention, though some reviews are fine. So I've been keeping tabs on the reviews for it since the beginning, and honestly, most felt overly against the show. Those talking about how the show is literally just endless sexual assault and rape and Arc saves the day, which I felt was disservice given there have only been like 2-3 episodes so far... Sure it wasn't the best beginning, but a story has to start somewhere. Does it matter if the beginning theme seems excessive? Not to me. I'd wait and give this show a chance. However 10 episodes passand I see that they're not really wrong... The plot is always selling other races as slaves or for sex. There is that one elf in one town who lived there for 10 years and likes the town and is treated well, and that one elf marrying into royalty, but even I would say they mostly felt shoehorned in just so people won't go "Holy fuck this story literally has nothing else to it...", only barely ever touched upon. Those talking about Arc having no questions or wanting to go back home once isekai'd, I refuse to agree with. To get into a fantastical world like that, I'd totally let my thoughts of my own world rot in hell too. I wouldn't find our world something to fondly look back to or want to return. I will agree in that Arc is terribly bland. Even for a MC Happy to be in a new world of a game he plays, this guy doesn't have any motive or desires at all. Which I'm fine with if it manages to explore any themes properly, which is also something this anime fails to do at all. The plot gets excessively stupid with the last two episodes, as another guy points out. Leaves a sleeping/fainted Ariane to herself as he fights, bad move. Doesn't teleport to her when he sees the monster, why. Has the ninja girl show up to save her, okay, this is fine. She is a recurring character/teammate anyway. Arc looks like he'd have trouble with the monster horde, her clan shows up to kill all the monsters. Why? he can easily destroy everything with his magic. The clan proceeds to kill all monsters and fuck off into non-existence, not even trying to sop or apprehend the monster tamer. Place is crumbling, Arc proceeds to let the guy get away instead of a quick Move Point slash to kill him. SOMEHOW that guy had the time to escape from the place, but Arc didn't have enough to simply teleport behind him and slash him once...? Giving him teleportation was a mistake. Given his shield can tank hydra magic and his body armor can tank being bitten by it too, this guy could rape all the monsters alone. Why bring the ninja army for no reason...? Hell even if he got busy fighting and couldn't protect Ariane, he can just use his revive spells again to bring her back to life. There is literally no threat at all. World building is piss poor too. There are mentions of a treaty which if broken might mean elves stop supplying Magical equipment and rune stones. Seems Elves have a lot of good shit. Yet, they get kidnapped for sex and slavery alone...? Not one person trying to find out the secrets of the rune stones? Not one trying to torture for the location of a Magical equipment factory, or the know-how? Seriously? I've read way better stories which shows other races suffering for a myriad of reasons, be it to abuse their powers, their knowledge, history, artifacts, connections, revenge for the past, classic species/race discrimination, sex, manpower, whatever, not just one single minded lunacy like in this story. We don't even see them used as manpower here, they're supposedly sold as slaves and we see male captives too, but we literally do not see them EVER go anywhere or be used in any way. Sex is all the humans in this world know, apparently.. Even worse when the elves actually have some important shit. The one smart seeming thing I've seen in this anime is Arc looking through the keyhole to use Move Point to teleport in instead of using his strength to break the door and cause a commotion. Fights in this anime are also generally boring as hell. Now, Pros- Ariane is hot I guess, but even here I'd go with Echidna from Yuusha Yamemasu instead atleast. For what it's worth, the OP felt pretty extra and fun. ED isn't bad either. Otto Apocalyse's VA for the other Kingdom's emperor, a personal treat. That's about it.
