Mahiru Shiina is worthy of her nickname "Angel": she is a divine beauty loved by all, and she excels in both academics and athletics. Shiina lives in an entirely different world from Amane Fujimiya, her next-door neighbor. Despite living so close together, they have never spoken once. But their silence is broken when Fujimiya spots Shiina gloomily sitting on a swing amidst a heavy rainstorm and lends her his umbrella. When Fujimiya catches a cold the next day, Shiina wishes to return the favor for the umbrella by nursing him back to health. Believing that this would be their first and last interaction, he silently appreciates her kindness. However, Shiina—who cannot help but worry about Fujimiya's lack of tidiness and proper nutrition—begins to cook and clean for him. As the unlikely pair spend time together in Fujimiya's apartment, they explore the true nature of their relationship and the gentle emotions that emerge from it. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten sadly did not spoil me rotten; this anime ended up being incredibly dull and pathetic. The story is contrived from start to finish and packaged with bland, cardboard characters, poorly written dialogue that feels like someone tried to rip off young adult works from Wattpad, and a generic, mediocre narrative. In this regard, it is much like Demon Slayer. However, unfortunately, it does not have talented staff to turn it from nothing into something. Instead, it got one of the worst studios a light novel adaptation can get—project No.9, the bloodsucker of the light novel adaptations in the2020s. At this point, one can start to think that they have a special unit in the studio to find light novels with the corniest dialogues in the country. The premise of this animated calamity is—a dude is kind to a cute girl once, and she conveniently lives next to him, so she cleans his room and begins to cook for him. This is the most unrealistic, escapist fantasy plot development imaginable. The author didn't even bother to make the male protagonist look like he tried to do something to make a change in his mundane life. He continues his daily routine, and one day when he comes back from school, he sees the most popular girl in his school in a dire situation and decides to help her out of pity, which is an act that contradicts the rest of his character, or what was supposed to be his character. This writing is absolutely abyssal. The dual protagonists of the story, Mahiru and Amane, are exceptional characters if exceptional was synonymous with dry and uninteresting. Not to mention, the development of these characters is nonsensical—and like their pathetic dialogue—likely written by ChatGPT. These two characters (if such a term even applies to these walking pieces of white bread) interact in ways that most newly formed couples wouldn’t. Close friends do not act like this with each other, which makes it painfully apparent that the author does not know how people interact and how the romance develops. These interactions are also terribly forced and awkward. It’s painful to watch, really. Their interactions made me want to go and touch grass, so I can finally remember real people are not this gross while interacting with each other. Also, the reveal about Mahiru's parents feels like the author didn't plan it from the start and just wanted to give Mahiru a sad backstory out of the blue. Because there is no way someone who lived the life of Mahiru becomes a teenager without any awful personality traits. The author needs to bring her maid into the story and make that woman the kindest and most caring person in the world. Otherwise, her character arc will be an unnecessarily over-the-top drama. This show is also a disaster when it comes to production values. I don't know if it's because half of project No.9's staff is working on finding the next boring light novel to adapt, but this show's visual quality feels like three college students decided to make fan animations for fun over the weekend. Character designs, animations, and backgrounds are terrible, as expected from project No.9. Amane's apartment feels like it was made on Sims by a first-time computer user. It's unimaginative and dull, just like the main characters. In conclusion, this anime is just a waste of time with its lackluster production, attempt at a generic narrative, and laughably terribly-written main characters. I really wish I didn't watch this one and touched grass instead.
DIABETES the Animation. Oh God, does this NEVER seem to be enough! I KNOW about novelist Saeki-san's Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken a.k.a. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. The immaculate, well-received LN that has earned its fair share of mixed reactions of the unkempt story between the average boy and the much-adored Angel female, along with illustrator Hanekoto's very beautiful and impressive art that never fails to impress. Yet, while Project No. 9's adaptation here seems to be on the very rough side of things from cut content to the abysmal animation, the heart of the series is neverforgotten, and all I can say about this is that the anime is carried by everything else except for the production. Of the synopses that I've read for this LN, Yen Press's one has got to be the best summary of all: "A HEAVENLY ENCOUNTER!", because it's really just that: the "It should have been me, not him!" self-insert of the awkward, generic male MC Amane Fujimiya, he looks like he's been living under a rock, unapologetic of his circumstances, and the worst thing of all: living in his lone apartment where he is nothing but a failed existence, supported by his parents of amicable money just to make a living. But there is somebody who will turn his life around: the Angel of his school, the beautiful and untouchable Mahiru Shiina (no relation to Sakura-sou's Mashiro Shiina, though it's pretty darn close in personality and character design (if comparing the LN)), showing up unfazed in a rainy day and full of loss of thought. And with the slight exchange of shielding the Angel with his umbrella, starts the growing relationship of the average commoner with the Angel, right at the step of their own homes. The Angel that is Mahiru Shiina, she's the embodiment of a perfect waifu: pretty, beautiful, someone who also does chores for a living (because like Amane, she's of self-sustenance) and takes care of her own wellbeing very closely. She is to a degree, a woman of no faults, and any guy would've been all the more pleasant to be her partner, for better or for worse. But, since this is the Angel that "Spoils Me Rotten", it's Amane who will be on that receiving end of getting ridiculously spoiled bad by the Angel herself, being someone that is kinda of a wash-out and devoid of his life's existence. It feels like a cop-out that Amane's existence is all but only Mahiru to see, and while thankfully isn't the case, it's in situations like these that both of them can be vulnerable to each other, which in turn, displays the real side of themselves as opposed to the facade that they carry once they step outside of their houses. Mahiru, given her Angel appeal, is adorable on the outside, but a possessive girl on the inside, not being sure of what she really wants until it becomes a need. This is due to the sentimentality of her relationship with her parents, which they do not get along with each other well, often leaving Mahiru to her own devices and providing her with just enough money for her survivalist mentality. As for Amane, he's the very sensitive guy who is subconsciously aware of his surroundings, stemming from his somewhat awkward relations with his parents, especially his doting mother Shihoko, which I thank the Heavens that she's a kind parent and something which Mahiru experienced parental love first-hand. This, thus, creates the relationship that's basically more a need than a want, and I have no doubt that Mahiru and Amane's relationship, as sweet as diabetes as it is, will grow to become one of dependence and heartwarming love kinks between the two. Alas, for a relationship to work, you need to have a side pairing that would help to spur the main couple along, and this exists in the form of classmates Itsuki Akasawa and Chitose Shirakawa, Amane's best classmate bud and the girlfriend. The dynamic of having a side couple help support both Amane and Mahiru in their own need, is pretty much understated really, because as much as you can say that they're the wingman/girl couple that helps both MCs to get their point across each other, all they really want other than the exclusivity that Amane has to himself about Mahiru, is genuine friendship and support to keep the four of them going altogether, obviously behind closed doors because this secret is not to be revealed publicly, otherwise it would have serious implications, especially for Amane himself. I do love Itsuki and Chitose's times where they are there just to have fun, and being friends, I don't see any reason why not to be inclusive this way, because as much as the Angel Mahiru herself is a sight to behold, she is just like them: regular humans with a sense of need of community, and small ones like these are better than nothing. Overall, Itsuki and Chitose's servitude towards Amane and Mahiru, really, is no short of wholesome and uplifting. This is the same for Yuuta Kadowaki, which he is just the floating friend of interest and understanding. The one sole problem will be on the production side of things. Project No. 9 is not a studio that's well-known for quality, so don't expect a lot of things forthcoming with how the anime looks overall. To my eyes, it still looks pleasant and sparkling with flavour, but yet, what the studio did was to create a Sayu version 3.0, if you will. That's because the studio has produced both Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun and Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou. a.k.a HigeHiro before, with the lead female's character design practically left unchanged, so the similarities are frankly quite obvious. Even with limited animation (that I've stressed this since Tomozaki-kun) that's not the best adaptation of one of the best LNs of the modern day, debut director Wang Lihua may not have the best hands onboard with her production team, but may this prove to be a stepping stone in her first-ever directoralship. The OST frankly is great, and I might as well say that this show definitely has one of the best OSTs this season. You know the man, Masayoshi Ooishi himself, I have always loved his fantastic and uplifting vocals whenever he is chosen to do Anisongs, and his OP "Gift" is no exception to that rule. What's even more surprising is of the ED and insert songs, "Chiisana Koi no Uta" and "Ai Uta". If you know your anime history, you'll know when Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san came out 5 years ago in Winter 2018, Takagi's VA Rie Takahashi did a cover of the two exact same ending songs back all the way in Season 1 for Episodes 9-10 and 11 respectively. And now, these two songs are replicated here by Mahiru's VA Manaka Iwami, which I feel is a nice touch that I was not expecting to hear of a new take of a variation on old classics. Even with the circumstances of a poor production, I would still think that Otonari no Tenshi-sama is undoubtedly one of the finest shows of the Winter season that's just as a delightful watch from start to finish. I know I'll never get enough of the anime based on the original source material that's the superior version, and to anyone who is interested in more, please pick up the LN as the manga adaptation's equivalent (as of this review) has been all but covered in the anime. That said, you can do the anime no wrong by its one major flaw, and that is, WE NEED MORE OF IT! Great showing that demands more.
Since when did we think that animating the wet dreams of a deranged incel is a good idea? The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is an utterly disgusting anime: not ambitious, nor funny, nor heartwarming. Every week I force myself to sit down to listen to its repulsive dialogue, stare at its hideous animation, and endure through its abhorrent story, all for the sake of writing this review and be the one person that “watched it so you don’t have to”. So here’s my warning: unless your pastime is reading ChatGPT’s best attempt at human dialogue, this anime is not worth your time. While the lightnovel of the same name first published in 2019 was written in the third person, this anime adaptation makes Amane the point of view character. Throughout the majority of the anime, it is his thoughts that we hear, his perspective we see the world and its people in, and his actions we were shown on screen the most. And since he is a fundamentally uninteresting, unimaginative, unsociable person, that’s a problem. But even disregarding the fact that such a meritless character makes for a terrible protagonist, because of his reclusive tendencies, Shiina was more or less forced into Amane’s life. The first few episodes truly felt like squeezing water out of a stone. Their encounter in episode one might be the best example to demonstrate my point. While on his way back home, Amane saw Shiina sitting out in the rain and handed her his umbrella. In return, Shiina offered to clean his chaotic apartment, nurse him until he recovers from the cold he had caught, and cook him meals from time to time. If you don’t see the problem in that, I don’t know what to tell you other than that high school girls aren’t gonna flock to your door after you’ve given them your umbrella, even if they’re your neighbour. And while it is later hinted at that Shiina might have known (and liked) Amane long before that point, it feels more like an ass-pull filled in later to justify her actions. Besides, a bizarre yet mundane introduction that only makes sense after eleven episodes is still ill-thought-out no matter what. These problems resonate well after the opening episodes have ended. But enough about this show’s introduction, let’s talk about the rest of it. The vast majority of The Angel Next Door takes place in either the 1-B/2-A classroom, or Amane’s apartment. Barely are the characters shown outside of these two settings, and they almost exclusively only talk about each other and nothing else during those scenes. Comments on how Amane has changed after meeting Shiina, banter about Shiina’s gap moe and Amane being tough on the outside and soft inside, or remarks about how weird the two as a pair are. That’d be great if you are already like the characters and just want to see them interact, but if you’re not then they are pointless and flavourless exchanges that don’t add anything to the story. You could say that the strength of shows like these are not in the story but the characters, but I have a problem with just how shallow the characters are too. The side characters have nothing to them other than the monotonous stereotypes we’ve seen a thousand times over, I couldn’t even care to elaborate. Amane and Shiina seem dominated by their past: Amane defined by his experience being a victim of bullying in middle school, and Shiina a product of her uncaring parents and a kind foster carer. That is partly a by-product of how superficial their interactions are. I want to preface: unless the character has a strong design, how a character interacts with another is the backbone of interaction and subsequently their personality. The main duo in this show, however, talk and act like humanoid robots trying to flirt. The lack of quality dialogue not only damages their character but also the suspension of disbelief. If only their conversation resembled anything like human dialogue, I might just forgive its ridiculous introduction. I’ll give credit where credit is due though: the show keeps its limelight firmly on the main couple, and it does develop their relationship. The growth of Amane and gradual opening up of Shiina is apparent (not a high bar to clear, but they at least did *something*). Even if you look past the faults of the source material that an anime adaptation can’t reasonably avoid, Project No.9 has done nothing above the bare minimum in terms of animation. Closeup shots of Shiina are often beautiful, but this much should be expected given that she’s the selling point of the whole show, not to mention the same camera angle is used over and over void of any creativity. And everything else animation wise is unexceptional if not straight up bad, the momentary and structural editing are also a mess. Nowhere is that more apparent than a sequence in episode ten. During the boring exposition about Amane’s past disguised as a conversation, the animation crew routinely abuses the 90 degree angle. All the while the scene cuts from Amane hugging Shiina in his living room, to him training in the park, to them at school, in a matter of seconds. There is arguably some connection between the scenes through Amane’s thoughts, but the fundamentals of establishing shots are not respected, leaving the cuts feeling jarring. The best analogy would be that they are doing a speedrun of the story for no good reason. It just occurred to me that there’s one more thing that The Angel Next Door did alright. The OP and the EDs, while not phenomenal, were sufficient. The OP makes a stand alone song but doesn’t really match the tone/mood, and is honestly wasted on this abhorrent show. The EDs are Takagi-san’s EDs at home, but I won’t complain and they are still fire. They should’ve recorded a mini album and called it a day. If you want romance, every single show out there does it better. If you want escapism, hell, I’d rather you watch those isekais that come out every season. If you want comedy, my guy you need to give Rent-a-Girlfriend a try. God I hate this show with a passion
Watching The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten kinda reminds me of the 'girl next door' type of media, where a girl next door transcends beauty. Or at least, they are far more appealing to the eye than anyone else in the same show. Then, the character we're specifically talking about here would be Mahiru Shiina, who represents the "angel" of this series. To put it simply, this isn't about a girl next door. This is about an angel next door, and our main protagonist Amane Fujiyama is about to have the experience of a lifetime. Based on the light novel, The Angel Next Door SpoilsMe Rotten has some common tropes viewers should watch out for. The idea of an ordinary person meeting someone way out of their league is among one of these. Furthermore, you'll need a lot of patience to embrace the personality of Amane Fujiyama. Trust me, he isn't exactly the type of character that can carry this anime with his personality and being the epitome of an ordinary guy. On the other hand, Mahiru will spark curiousity for the viewers for representing a beauty and compared to that of an angel. She is popular among classmates at school and carries a mysterious vibe. As the anime ventures on, we find out more and more about her character beyond just her angelic appearance. Amane's meeting with Mahiru looks like something out of a modern soap opera. Under the raining sky, they bond over the simple idea of her helping cooking a meal. Yes, Amane lacks cooking skills so he often eats takeouts and to be honest, it's nothing to be embarassed out. Fortunately, he discovers that she is his next door neighbor. The nicknamed Angel at school Mahiru lives right next to him. As the two grow closer together, they discover more about each other including their parents, hobbies, and dreams. The show adapts a rather innocent romance story that tries to get the viewers interested in their relationship. However, I will tell you this: this anime expects you to be patient, very patient in fact. There's no doubt the two has a connection but Amane and Mahiru aren't exactly experts on romance. They are teenagers who are experiencing what is like growing up. They deal with real life problems such as keeping their relationship a secret, dealing with grown-ups, and spending special days together such as Christmas or New Years. From this point, the show honors the anime's premise and never steers off rail from it although it's clear that the show has a rather one dimensional plot. Outside of our lovely duo, we do have the charismatic pair of Chitose and Itsuki They represent as foil characters for Amane and Mahiru because of their contrasting personalities. Still, the anime does take opportunties to get all four or these main characters together to bond and share the joy of life. However, viewers should be aware that the show also adds moments of despair and characters dealing with their past. Most noticably, we find out why Amane has a hard time trusting others and his own problems dealing with his parents. Indeed, trust is an important word for characters must develop a connection to understand each other. Amane and Mahiru are the most prominent examples for they are able to develop such trust. Ultimately, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is probably an anime you've experience before if you're familiar with melancholic dramas. Even though there's always joy in the series, there's also moments of sadness and despair. It always feels like something is missing between our main characters' relationship and the question lingers on whether 'will they or won't they' become a real couple. It's this type of writing that can be frustrating at times as even though there's progress, we are never treated with a true ending. The anime adapts only 12 episodes so this isn't much of a surprise, yet as I said before, you'll need a lot of patience to the end. However, it's also clear this type of anime isn't aimed for everyone. Project No. 9 and its producers handled this anime with delicate care. They made Mahiru look like an angel in human form with her innocent look and beautiful face. With a youth appearance and feminine charm, she lives up to her nickname. Outside of her character, the rest of the cast look like extras. Seriously, it's hard to name one other character that stands out in terms of appearance when comparing to Mahiru. Unfortunately, the anime's art style doesn't bring anything special to talk about unless you become a fan of the angel herself. I'm not going to say this is anime is unwatchable or represents the pennacle of romantic comedies. This is more of an average anime dedicated to connecting to two characters living next door. Whether you agree Mahiru lives up to her 'angel' nickname is up to you. With such a small cast of characters, you'll really have to ask yourself if they are worth the time. Because time and time after again, this type of anime just doesn't do justice for the rom-com genre.
Undoubtedly an anime that is worth watching if you are looking to have a great relaxing night and enjoy how love gradually emerges from two cold characters who do not know each other. Without a doubt this can become one of the best romance anime In this anime you will be able to appreciate how slight gestures can make two people who feel nothing start to want to be closer to each other. If you really like a series where love arises from small gestures without wanting to receive anything in return and with which each chapter makes you feel great appreciation for the two main characters, youwill certainly not end up disappointed with this anime.
Originally, I planned to review Revenger from this lack-luster of a season but it was so boring that I’ve dropped it after 6 episodes. What do we have here instead? Another boring romcom, of course! Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken was the highest rated romantic anime of this season and one of my podcast mate said this anime is a freaking masterpiece, so I gave it a shot. After finishing this anime, I can confidently say that this story was not a good recommendation AT ALL. But what went wrong, you may ask. Well, if you don’t want to readthis review, I immediately come up with the conclusion: Basically everything. If you’re curious what are those flaws which made this series a nearly unbearable experience to watch, here are the details. Amane Fujimiya, a first year student, who is not very popular at school meets the beautiful, rich, extremely popular, almost completely flawless Mahiru Shiina who is happened to be one of his classmates and she turns out to be she’s one his neighbors. They got close to each other very soon, Mahiru goes over to Amane, she constantly acts like a cold bossy bitch, she tidies the MC’s room and also cooks for him. Amane finds her annoying at first, he doesn’t want this kind of relationship and he’s right, what I saw is not a realistic relationship but doing what real people would do in this situation wouldn’t make a 12 episode anime series, let alone a successful light novel. Amane is a completely uninteresting main protagonist who is also a self-insert, all he did was lend his umbrella to a girl, who starts acting like her girlfriend in return. He isn’t likeable, he is lazy, messy and even rude sometimes. Mahiru as I mentioned is a typical girl lonely men fantasize about, she’s pretty, kind, she would also make a good housewife, of course. She’s also a typical female lead, who has this different persona troupe and it’s good when it’s done right but her schoolgirl persona has literally no personality, the „I’m with Amane” persona is annoying, completely unrealistic and really boring. It takes seven episodes for something to happen when Amane notices that Mahiru is arguing with her mother. She admits to Amane that she’s actually an unwanted child but this backstory’s only significance to the story is how they first met. The dialogues are incredibly corny at best, written by eight-year-olds at worst, if I had watched this anime with my native language’s subtitles (which is Hungarian) instead of English sub, I would’ve thrown my laptop out the window from the seventh floor, they were that bad which is not too appealing, knowing the fact that ninety percent of the show is basically these two horrible characters doing „lovey-dovey” things. The romantic progression is awfully slow which wouldn’t be catastrophic if the supporting characters weren’t as bad as the main couple. Like in many romcoms, Otonari no Tenshi-sama also has a secondary couple but the boy has no personality, he’s almost invisible, I can’t remember what he does in this god damn show, but her girlfriend really takes the cake. She’s not just an annoying one-dimensional painfully unfunny comic relief of a character, the entire purpose of her existence is just shipping the main couple. She’s so obssesed with them that I wonder why she is still with her boyfriend. They could have been as great side characters as Kazama and Sakurai were in My Senpai is Annoying where Igarashi and Takeda’s romantic progression was pretty slow, the secondary couple in that show was amazing. Amane has a popular male classmate too, he’s not an important character either, the other classmates are mindless NPCs, don’t bother with them. The rest of the supporting cast are Amane’s parents. Their only role is being supportive towards their son. they seem to get along, they are also the most likeable characters in this anime. The character design is the same as in Project No. 9’s previous light novel adaptations, if you’ve seen Higehiro for example, I’m sure you’re familiar with the character designs. The backgrounds are under-detailed mess, the scenes are barely animated, the color palette is best described as the 50 Shades of Shit, the characters have barely any facial expressions, they also feel like robots who have been brought to life recently and started learning how to be human, so this shows art is the definition of ugly as sin. The official soundtrack of this anime is nothing amazing, you will immediately forget it after you finished watching this series. Many people think that in modern anime bad voice acting is simply non-existent anymore but oh boy, Manaka Iwami is horrible in Mahiru’s role, it’s just painful to listen to her voice and worst of all, she will be the seiyuu of Akane Kurokawa in ’Oshi no Ko’, who is my favorite female character in the original manga (please check out the score I gave to Fruits Basket before you want to give me a friendly reminder that she also did Tohru Honda). The Angel Next Door Bores Me Rotten is a terrible disaster that makes me baffle its popularity. It’s completely generic, low effort and there isn’t a single aspect of this show that is unironically good. I wonder why would anyone enjoy an anime like this. I don’t want to sound like a gay leftist whose reviews used to be botted but this series is definitely a male fantasy trip for lonely men to fulfill their escapist desires. If you don’t want to waste your time with this filth mocked as an anime, avoid at all cost, if you’re craving for escapism, don’t watch Otonari no Tenshi-sama either, go to the gym instead.
When I first heard of Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Saretita Ken, it was from people that I knew who read the light novels from this series saying that it was a pretty wholesome romcom and very good, and I know I like to watch romcoms so I decided to give it a shot, but after seeing it was going to made by Project No.9 and that it sounded extremely generic to its core I started to lose confidence, and it’s good to know that my total lack of confidence in this thing didn’t disappoint because not only it looks ugly, butit is in fact generic to its core, and I’m not saying generic as an actually bad thing but in how it is implemented. Amane is the same protagonist as always, he is a sadboi who has one single friend, just that Amane has even less personality than your usual MC. He moved from his previous school due to some people that didn’t consider him a friend and used him just to pay stuff and that’s why he barely has any friends now, that’s basically him, that’s all there is to his character for easier self-insertion. But suddenly one day he finds Mahiru, the so-called angel of the school, not only she has perfect grades but she is also apparently the most beautiful girl, stupidly popular among her peers, and other things you already saw from other perfect heroines. So, as he sees her alone and sad and the rain starts falling, he gives her his umbrella and he gets sick due to being exposed to rain, and after all the help she received, Mahiru goes to his apartment since she feels guilty for him giving her the umbrella. Now, they conveniently live in the same building floor, I have seen other series with that so I’ll let it slide, but as soon as she puts a foot in Amane’s apartment, she says that she has to start cleaning the whole room and that he looks pale, so she also starts cooking for him every single day to the point that they eventually decide that she can cook on his kitchen. So, I can confidently say, Mahiru is not Amane’s love interest, she is his actual mother, she works as his mother better than his own mother. Mahiru constantly mentions all the help Amane gives to her, and I hear those dialogues and just wonder, WHAT HELP IS HE GIVING YOU?! I think she didn’t perceive the series in the same way I did, since I just saw her helping him every single time, besides the little stuff from the rain and when she was a little hurt on episode one, so I guess she says it due to the stuff he buys her, but I wouldn’t consider it as helping her. But then there was this scene that gave us insight of Mahiru’s past, she wasn’t loved by her parents so that’s why she put effort to be perfectly perfect in every single way, but they didn’t love her back and even want nothing to do with her once she finishes high school, not only this isn’t a flaw to Mahiru because she is still perfect, it’s their parents who are heartless, but after she tells Amane all of this and he comforts her she finally falls in love with him. And I’m sure telling your tragic backstory and working as the mother of a guy won’t make yourself fall in love with him, but hey, this series has been this way since the beginning. There was this scene in episode 9, where Amane and Mahiru went to shop, and Amane was waiting for Mahiru to look for some stuff and then suddenly two girls appear in front of him and ask Amane if he wanted to hang out, but he is grabbed by the arm by Mahiru and the two go away from those girls. At that moment I had to pause the episode and I started laughing hard, I think so-called “comedy” anime don’t make me laugh at something this easily, but I’m not laughing because it was made to be a funny scene, I laughed at how blatantly stupid it was, I was laughing at it not with it, especially because this series doesn’t have written jokes or jokes at all, I think it cannot be possibly categorized as a comedy, I already thought it was dumb enough for the most beautiful girl in the school to suddenly become the mom- sorry, the love interest of the MC was unrealistic enough, but this was even beyond that. And this is the usual quality of the scenes in this series, they go on and on being stupid, without taking into account the million dialogues about “we are not dating” “I don’t feel anything for her” despite the fact they basically live together, she cooks for him, she cleanses her house for him, they hold hands and shit like that, I mean, this series even went and made Amane have a wet dream about Mahiro, talk about not being attracted to her. If I had a dollar for every single off-model frame in this anime, even I could fund a better show, because this show looks horrible, the animation is super stiff, there are so many off-model frames that my eyes hurt watching at the screen, there’s one like every couple of minutes, I’m not actually surprised since a studio as mediocre as Project No.9 is the one handling the series, but even then, what about everything else? This series has as many settings as a 4 camera sitcom, there is the school, the park, the house with the couch, and they spend tons of times in the couch, I feel like the producers read the novel and said “these idiots spent most of the time sitting on a couch, it looks very cheap to animate” and they went with it, but even if it looked cheap to animate since there aren’t many movements, you could at least try to make the characters look on-model. So up to a point, ever since I stated watching this series I thought that Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Saretita Ken is just Kawaii Dake ja nai Shikimori-san if it wasn’t even trying, and that show barely tried anything at all. You heard that right, it’s basically the same premise but Shikimori-san goes with some logic as to why the girl is so infatuated with him since the beginning, like the girl is actually the MC’s girlfriend since the start, think what you want about their relationship as being bland, but not even them who were categorized as having more of a mother and son relationship go as hard as these two on that Oedipus angle, Mahiru acts much more like a mother than Shikimori can ever hope to and the two guys are incapable of doing anything without them, it’s just that this series looks ugly as sin and the other is a Doga Kobo show, so it looked pretty basically the whole time even if the series itself wasn’t that good. And I mean, look at the novel illustrations of Otonari no Tenshi-sama and now compare them to the anime, they are clearly butchered in designs. And I don’t mean harm to people who like this series and can get behind all of this ugly off-model fluff of a series, but I can’t help but wonder why I choose to watch this one to aside from Nagatoro-san, as the other “remarkable” romcoms this season were stuff like Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko whose whole gimmick is the girl is a tomboy and Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai that aside from being delayed it seems to be almost the same as this one, so I probably didn’t make the wrong call in which romcom to watch, but I should probably have gone for Tomo-chan or downright not watch this one, as it’s just bad. Thank you for reading.
Okay, I'm marking this as "recommended" but under a very specific premise. That premise being that you know what the heck you're getting into. This show is saccharin levels of sweet, you may walk away with diabetes. But then again it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It's high-school romance at it's most "pure" form if you will. Two good people, both slightly damaged, perceived to be of different social strata, find each other and develop a romance. It's as pure and simple as that. The standard "coming to understand feelings, and communicate feelings" tropes apply. There'sno great villain, standard friendships of a sort, backstory for most of the other characters is hinted at but not seriously developed, just enough to know that they're their own people in and of themselves, but their function here is really only to relate to your 2 main protagonists. I've heard people argue both ways about the animation itself, and my understanding is that this was developed from a light novel (like 90% of stuff seems to be right now) of some success. I have never heard of it. But on the animation front it's not complicated, no super-dynamic style, some simple transitions, but the artwork is on point, and the style suits the subject matter. It's not "flat" and never feels like watching a slide-show. I watch subbed, so I don't know if the dubbed voices detract from the way the speech is animated or not, but it works fine in the Japanese. The colours used are great at portraying am emotional tone, the score is on point, and the opening and ending musical numbers fit the theme of the series, and are an enjoyable listen. It's exactly what it advertises itself as, a sweet nothing series that is enjoyable to watch when you just want something light and refreshing. There's no huge dramas, the general story proceeds about as you'd expect, and no-one suddenly goes into a coma for 15 years at the end or anything weird like that. If you're watching for big dramatic confrontations, romance through huge adversity, or high-school eye-candy scenes, seek elsewhere. If you just want a moderately predictable storyline done quite well, good characterisation, and a sweet developing first romance from friendship, this is for you. Provided you know what you're getting into, and aren't expecting something else, I recommend. 8/10
Tenshi-Sama is one of the best examples of a slow burn romance you’ll find in this medium. Extremely cute, wholesome and a rewarding watch. If you are at all a fan of slice of life or romance, this is essential viewing. Unlike the angel in its name though, it is not without flaws. Bit of a disclaimer, I have a lot of problems with Tenshi-Sama adaptation wise which I’ll get into later. On its own, as a pure anime product it is very good. Every episode will have you squealing like a high school girl and wishing you were blessed enough to find a Mahiru. Infact, it can be a bit depressing at times because of how much an idealised version of a woman Mahiru is. The english title, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten really sums up the show. Gorgeous girl who is top of the class and idolised by everyone, who somehow has never had a boyfriend or talked to guys before(because anime) runs into a loser introvert with poor social skills and due to circumstances they start hanging out daily and growing closer. Now, that may sound like a stupid premise, and in fact it is. Very stupid and unrealistic. HOWEVER, that does not mean that the show itself is stupid or not good. It’s amazing. It’s such a genuinely relaxing and cute time seeing Mahiru cook, clean and do everything you could possibly want as a guy. It’s wish-fulfilment, but it’s damn good wish-fulfilment. The show is VERY slow, both characters are kind of dense and struggle to accept that the other likes them. Seeing them grapple with these emotions over the course of the show is cute, but at times a bit frustrating. Over time, we see both Amane and Mahiru remove the artificial masks they’ve put on for society and with each other’s help they grow quite a bit. Cutting out the side characters from the series really hurt it though in my opinion. While Mahiru and the escapism fantasy stuff is cute, it gets a little stale after a while. Chitose and her bf from the LN really help break the ice and keep the story engaging, but their absence is felt here. Now, the bad. Like I said Tenshi-Sama is a pretty bad adaptation. Project No.9 started out well when they dedicated like 4 episodes to volume 1, but after that they started skipping multiple chapters per volumes, important ones that gave insight into the personalities of Amane and Mahiru, they wrote out side characters who add flavour to the story and are genuinely entertaining and they straight up butchered some of the cutest scenes from the Light Novel. I also don’t think the format of the story translates the best to anime format to begin with. The type of story this is really works best in book format. As an anime it largely becomes just two characters sitting at a table or couch, saying something cute, blushing and then saying “urusai” or “baka”. In Light Novel format, you get to see the inner workings of the characters’ brain and can understand why they act the way they do, or what they’re thinking. Speaking of Project No.9, one of the best parts of the Tenshi-Sama Light Novel is the art. The art is gorgeous in the books. In the anime, Project No.9 went with their generic style which really does a disservice to the series. Additionally, the animation is almost non-existent at points. Characters barely look like they’re moving. The OP is just reused slideshow shots of Mahiru, etc., etc. I’m not saying Tenshi-Sama is a bad anime. It’s objectively good. It’s really cute, it’s wholesome, it accomplishes what it sets out to be and never tries to be something else. But, it does fail at being a good adaptation and as a source reader who’s a big fan of the series, that kills it for me. Anime onlies who like romance will really enjoy this, I just couldn’t enjoy it as much knowing what I know. All in all, Tenshi-Sama certainly isn’t the worse adaptation, could be Fruit of Evolution, but it ain’t 86 either. I know this review may seem a little confusing because I say it’s a must watch for romanace fans and then critique it a lot, but the reality is that’s the LN reader in me speaking and I wanted to speak to both crowds in this review. In short, it’s a really good anime only product even though it gets stale at times the cute stuff is more than enough to keep you locked in. Tenshi-Sama gets 7 wings out of 10.
I'll keep it short - Very Disappointed 😔 Animation - 3/10 It was very cheap, there were only 5 major backgrounds throughout the whole anime(Sofa, Kitchen, Door, Class, Bedroom)!! Lots of still frame dialogues and extremely slow pacing, single episode felt like an hour. When they planned to go to arcade and shopping I thought I might see some animation and change of background but, they only showed a glass window with a dress as a mall and just a claw machine for the arcade, nothing else. Only the Cat Cafe was bearable to watch. Plot - 4/10 Despite slow pace and bad animation, they couldn't even dothe romance right. A big problem - Her head was very disproportionate to her body size. In most of the scenes it was too big! Side Characters - 7/10 Atleast they were a little funny. If it was not for the MC's mother and his best friend's girlfriend the anime would have ending without giving a couple of laughs.
tl;dr: An anime with well written relationship development and an amazing female lead, but that significantly stagnates in the second half. Fujimiya Amane is a loner that most people don’t pay much attention to. Shiina Mahiru is the “Angel” of the school that everyone looks upon with admiration and envy. They are a pair that generally wouldn’t really interact all that much. However, they both live alone and in apartments right next to each other. After Amane does Mahiru a favor, in the process of paying him back she discovers that he has absolutely no home keeping skills. Thus, she starts sharing home cooked food withhim and helping him tidy up. It starts as a simple give and take relationship, but as they continue to spend more and more time together, they form an intimate bond. The formation of that bond was really interesting and well written. It genuinely does start out as a platonic relationship that it looks like neither of the two are interested in turning romantic. There is a clear distance between them. However through their interactions that distance closes bit by bit and eventually they’re incredibly close to each other. There’s nothing overtly dramatic that brings them close together. Nor does their relationship feel like something majestic or larger than life. But at the same time it’s still a relationship where you can clearly see that the two of them are truly in love with each other and can see how they got there. The issue is that they reach this point only about half way through the season, and at that point it feels like things grind to a halt. They’re both incredibly close but, they refuse to take it one step further. They keep having interactions that should make it clear that they’re into each other, but afterwards they always pull back and make sure that they don’t interpret their interaction as such, regardless of how forced that may seem. It’s more frustrating than anything, and it makes it hard to appreciate what is clearly romantic fluff because the people involved are so determined not to have it be seen as such. A lot of this comes down to Amane. He’s somewhat inconsistent in that he can be incredibly perceptive at times, but also incredibly dense at times. With the denseness essentially being everything surrounding his relationship with Amane. He reminds me a lot of the typical dense harem protagonist in terms of his denseness and that he doesn’t have much personality beyond being really nice. Though in harem stories there’s at least a point to the denseness in that it’s required to keep the story going. Here it felt completely and utterly pointless. I can’t say I was much of a fan of Amane’s character arc either. The main reason that Amane is so dense about Mahiru is that he has no confidence and thus doesn’t really believe that she could love him. He slowly does make progress on that, but the culmination of his character arc isn’t him coming to love himself. Rather, it’s essentially him coming to the decision that because she loves him he’s going to change himself into someone worthy of her love. That sort of arc could work well in a story where the protagonist genuinely has major issues he needs to work through, but with Amane it feels unnecessary. There’s obviously nothing wrong with self improvement and trying to be your best self. But it being framed that him feeling that he has to change to be worthy of Mahiru as something romantic and positive felt inconsistent with the themes of the rest of the anime. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way and made me pretty dissatisfied with the ending. Especially with how abrupt it was. Mahiru’s character arc fares better, though there’s not all that much to it. Due to her background she feels like she needs to be perfect all the time, but she comes to accept that she doesn’t need to be perfect to have a place to belong. And she decides she’s going to be more okay with showing her imperfections to the world. She decides as such, but as far as the anime gets it hasn’t really manifested much, so her character arc is still in the told but not shown stage. Still, even if her character isn’t all that deep, her just being such an amazingly likeably character is enough to hold up her side of the anime. A core part of each of each of their character arcs, their background, wasn’t handled all that well. Their past’s are both incredibly important in creating the complexes they have to overcome. However, they’re pretty much glossed over. There are light hints here and there, but the majority of their background is revealed and resolved through them simply sitting on a couch and talking to each other about it. That is incredibly realistic and grounded, and I know I praised the anime earlier for not being over dramatic about things, but I still feel there should have been a bit more oomph there. There are also some pretty great side characters. Amane’s best friend Itsuki and Itsuki’s girlfriend Chitose especially stood out as pretty much a bacouple. However, despite being overtly lovey-dovey, they’re not annoying at all due to how they contrast with Amane and Mahiru’s lack of ability to be honest with each other. They’re also really amusing. Also special mention goes to Amane’s mom who in addition to seeming like a really fun mom, was hilarious in pretty much every scene she was in. The art and animation were decent enough but nothing too special. Character designs were basic, but fine for the setting. The OP was okay in terms of the song and visuals. The EDs had solid enough visuals. What was more interesting was that they used the same songs as the anime Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. After some research I think that these songs are famous songs from outside of anime and that Takagi-san had covers as well. It’s still kind of strange that all three of the EP songs in this are also used in Takagi-san though. The soundtrack was decent enough but not particularly memorable.
Well, I did like it xd I completely understand that the plot could easily be interpreted in a generic way and without any sense, besides that it could be considered as the impossible dream of single people, but it is not so much so. Something that I would like to mention is the fact that the plot is made to be seen on a weekly basis, I would not recommend watching it all at once since it can be somewhat boring, of course, if you like this type of plot then it may be fun for you . As for the characters, they are not bad, although theycould be better, personally I think they are a bit wasted, but not that much, since they manage to at least meet the initial objective. There are times when the animation is quite "xdd", some random frames and with a drawing that doesn't seem to have quality but in general it's fine, the same thing happens with the soundtrack, it's fine but it fails to make the leap in quality with which could be considered memorable. In conclusion, it is entertaining, to pass the time, you may get hooked, you may not, in the end I will only say that if you have an open mind to the type of stories in which the protagonists meet "by chance" and begin to feel something, well then it's pretty good. (I can say I am one of these people and that is why I enjoy it).
When you look at The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten on the paper. It have great potential to be the best romance anime in this year and might even be contender for one of the best romance anime of all time. The LN of it is one of the best selling romance LN, and for a good reason. Story is so sweet and fluffy that it will make you smile and feel warm inside. Art is also great and character are likable. Well, if only they get the better studio, it would have guarantee spot for the best romance anime in this year. Unfortunately,it has one of the worst production I've ever seen in an anime. The best part of this anime is undoubtedly the romance between Amane and Mahiru. They are both likable and relatable characters who have their own problems. Amane is shy and awkward but has a kind heart. Mahiru is smart and talented but has a cold personality inside and lack of friends. They complement each other well and bring out the best in each other. Their interactions are cute and heartwarming, and they have a lot of chemistry. The anime does a decent job of showing their relationship development, as well as their struggles and misunderstandings. Although could have been better especially compared to LN version. But well, nothing to really complain in this part. It is so sweet to the point that I could have got a diabetes from watching it. That alone is way more than good enough for me. The worst part of this anime is definitely the animation and art quality. Yikes, it's hard to believe that this anime was made in 2023. The character designs are inconsistent and changed a lot from the original art. Hell, Mahiru look like Sayu from Higehiro but with blonde hair. The animation are, for lack of a better word, fucked up. The worst part? It getting worse and worse. It start from support character and Amane, but in last few episode it even impact Mahiru. The anime art's is a visual disaster that ruins the immersion and enjoyment of the story. It's a shame that such a sweet romance was given such a low-budget and terrible treatment from, again, Project No.9. So Project No.9, fuck you. The other aspects of this anime are average at best. The story is simple and predictable, but it's not bad. It follows the typical tropes and cliches of the genre, but it also has some originality and charm. And without it, this anime wouldn't have been this sweet. The pacing is okay-ish but have a room for improvement and the episodes are not boring considered that it is SoL. The characters are not that deep or complex, but they are not annoying or bland either. They have some personality and development, and they have some interactions with other side characters from time to time who are also decent. The comedy is not very hilarious or clever, but it's not cringy or forced either. Ending song are great, although it's impossible to ruin Chiisana Koi no Uta and Ai Uta anyway. However, opening song feel unfitting for this anime. Overall, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is an anime that has a great romance but a terrible production. If you're looking for a sweet and fluffy romance that will make you smile and feel good, you might enjoy this anime despite its flaws. But if you're looking for a high-quality anime that will impress you with its visuals, you might want to avoid this anime at all costs. I personally liked this anime for its romance, but I absolutely hated it for its production. Still, I still like it just because how great romance is here and I still believe that it will be the best romance anime in this year, just because we probably won't have romance anime like Kaguya-sama or Horimiya in this year. But god, Project No.9 must stop getting good LN/manga to adapt. They are doing absolutely fucking terrible job here and ruined this anime, and there are more to come.
Tonari Tenshi is the most miserable experience I've had watching a one-to-one romcom in a while. I don't know why, but recently shows have a propensity to cast bland no-personality doormats as the MC and have unbelievably hot girls be attracted to no one but him. Fujimiya is a dense motherfucker and bland as all hell, and his obliviousness/stubbornness is frustrating and annoying more than a charm point. That's strike one. Now his love interest (oh I'm sorry, the other person who happens to occupy the same amount of screentime as him, I don't wanna get the wrong idea), Mahiru, is a strange characterwho might as well be a figment of Fujimiya's hallucinations, since she apparently only has eyes for this bland doormat and no one else around her. Strike two. I'm generally forgiving for shows with bland characters if they can compensate on other fronts, such as plot or world building. But let's not kid ourselves here, this is a romcom with no com and no rom. It's a series of events bordering on voyeurism with someone blatantly meant to be a self insert and a strange girl who can't seem to think for herself beyond being the MC's mom-wife. There is no story, and you're only gonna be watching this shit for its non-existent characters. Strike thrree. Look, I'm obviously not gonna be self inserting as Fujimiya, or Mahiru for that matter. Romcoms/dramas/whatever you wanna call em are about watching two characters or more get together, so it is imperative that the girls, AND GUYS, be interesting and have some semblance of character. If I ever wanted to self insert, I'd play an eroge. There is no justification or meaning for the existence of shows like these. I hate 1-1 romcoms in general, but at least Uzaki was funny at times. This, and, don't get the wrong idea on this, is an exercise in frustration whenever it isn't boring you. Where the author has a warped and strange idea on how romance works and just comes across as uncomfortable to me in the end. 3/10
After watching the entire anime, I would use one word to sum it up - Terrible. I am a reader of the light novel version of this work, which I have read from volume one to volume eight. Additionally, I have also read the web version of this light novel. First of all, let's talk about the plot. It is too fast, like riding on a roller coaster. As I mentioned earlier, I am a light novel reader, and this anime should not be presented in this way. This work requires many episodes to explain the change in the feelings of bothMahiru and Amane. For example, how they slowly change from normal neighbours to a couple. However, they keep skipping the details, which makes people feel embarrassed. If I were the director, I would adapt only volume 1 and 2 in 12 episodes, because the details are necessary to make the anime enjoyable to watch. The second thing I want to discuss is the quality of the anime. Wow, it was terrible. It is one of the worst-quality anime I have ever watched. When I watched the anime, I kept seeing the characters' faces changing. The shadow, colour, eyes, etc. all went wrong. There wasn't even one episode with average-quality animation, which is so disappointing. When the announcement was made that the light novel would be animated, I saw the studio making this anime and I just sighed. Project no.9 has ruined many anime adaptations. When I saw the production studio, I already had low expectations. However, Project no.9 did not even meet my low expectations; they made it even worse. My standard rating for anime is already low. For example, in some anime that perform normally, I can already give a seven or an eight. But for this, I can't bear it. I would say this anime is an example of bad anime. For those who really like this anime, I would recommend reading the light novel. Even if you have watched the whole anime, I would recommend reading from volume 1 again. Because it is one of the best romance light novels I have ever read. Up to now, I still can't find another light novel that can make me enjoy the story more than this. ============================== My rating system: Story x4; Art(quality) x3; OST x2; OP&ED x1 Story: 3/10 Art(quality): 2/10 OST: 7/10 OP&ED: 7/10 Overall: 3.9/10 => 4/10 ==============================
To be frank, The Angel Next Door is what every rom-com has been doing since the dawn of its genre. Make the main couple meet through the most unconventional way possible, help each other (with no intention of getting any affection), meet other friends that hang out with the main characters, have obstacles to justify the other significant to try and comfort them, and most importantly, doing things which 'friends' don't usually do in front of others. If it sounds like I'm spoiling, well then you're right. Every rom-com, including this one, plays the exact same formula, recycling the elements just to make it looka bit different or the author's take on the formula. Welcome to The Angel Next Door. As a wise man once said... "If I ever saw myself as a character in front of a screen, I would hate that guy." Amane Fujimiya is a legitimate A-hole who's supposed to act as the self-insert for people like us who can't stand up and get a girl to talk to us. Every time I see his face, all I could think of were of the ways to punch this guy because he made me fume with genuine anger. I'm supposed to root for him just because he was nice to only one girl? You're telling me that this unfriendly and rude guy is getting along really well with the class princess just because he lent her his umbrella? A simple good deed which for some reason made her want to obsess herself with him? Mahiru Shiina, on the other hand, is the supposed dream girl, repaying the one deed this edgy mf had done for her. This is how their story starts. The genre is what everyone is familiar with by now, Romance and Comedy which should obviously mean rom-com, so how are they making moves and do the jokes land? I'm afraid to say that it's even worse not that they missed, but they shot themselves in the foot really badly because none of them are good. To even like the romance progression between the couple requires great characters that induce a sense of attachment and sadly, it fumbles on that route terribly. It's just the same exact sequence, Amane and Mahiru hanging out in their home, and one or the other accidentally did something that may evoke sexual desires, and the other brushes it off and continues to do it, never trying to be honest with one another, rinse and repeat. In every single episode, this happens most of the time. I'm not saying that having this kind of engagement is okay if it happens sporadically, but when you have the same occasion being played in numerous episodes, it can almost feel as if my time was wasted after waiting for a week to watch the next. As for the comedy, It's also quite bland and unfunny. You have Amane shutting down others for trying to ask a simple question which he takes as invading his privacy. You have Chitose being so obnoxious that I had to pause every time I heard her talk. Almost every other character is nothing but fodder for the main joke of the series, "It's not what you think!" which as expected, has to be one of the most repetitive jokes you can tell in a rom-com anime. I don't think I need to let everyone know of the production value of Project No.9, it's been made apparent enough that whatever they touch has been made to look mediocre and lifeless. That also includes the openings and endings visuals to which has been called the laziest crap anyone has ever seen. It should be the selling point of the series, promoting the content of what the audience is supposed to expect, not this lazy slideshow animation that is comprised of reused footage from the series. If you still want to watch it, go for it if you: - Just want to watch basic fluff romance. - Simple characters. - Multiple shots of your favourite waifu (There's plenty of it) That is all. Thank you for reading.
This is the simple Romance Anime I've been waiting for. Just 2 people getting to know each other, getting more comfortable with each other and figuring out their feelings over the course of 12 episodes. It was absolutely beautiful to see their relationship develop over time. Of course there were fun typical romance anime shenanigans at every corner as well, which is exactly what I came here for. Just overall an extremely fun time, there was not a second I was bored watching any of these episodes. Great stuff, I hope I'll be able to see stuff similar to this in the future!
Sweet but bland at the same time. Idk whether its good or nah. My first impression on first episode is good but after a few episode its get boring(for me). There is nothing special about the story, some people might get bored with it. Kinda remind me of Tonikaku kawaii, they are just spending time together, do sweet thing, no conflict and so on until the last episode. Pretty much you can predict the story in every episode tho. For the animation its not the best but still ok imo. P.S. sorry if my review is hard to read, my english is broken as you can see
The ending really felt like going to a drive through for a meal, and they forget one of your sides (and you were charged for it), but you didn't want to make a fuss because the rest of the food was a 7/10 and you used a coupon that saved you some $. This is something that can be judged by your tastes in anime, I don't think it is a bad show (Ahem, Rent a Girlfriend) by any means, but it wouldn't be something I would ever re-watch, nor would I reference it since it is so bland towards the end that it gets painfulto watch a full episode of the same thing with progress being achieved hyper fast, and slow at the same time (Pacing was weird). In basic terms, It's not that the show is bad, it just doesn't do anything considered new and tries nothing to keep the viewer engaged with the plot. -Read on if you want more info- Firstly this show really regressed past episode 6, Quality dropped by a considerable margin, animation became worse, story really became hyper annoying with progress feeling very forced and dull, although it's not that the story was horrible, the studio really just didn't do it justice. That aside the show was "mid", I was thinking that this would actually be a really great romance for this season and I was wrong. This anime did a 180 and regressed (and sadly not back to monke), to an utter mess that really draws the the elements that are generic, cliche, and predictable to the limelight and lastly the story's dialogue really ruins it. To be frank, it's like they turned off the critical thinking elements to make anything past episode 5 or 6, trying to slowly drain my brain-cells, then just inflated it (like the value of United States Dollars), to a migraine inducing concoction. -(Small OBVIOUS Spoiler)- They just blindly fall for each other, not a lot even happens, but you know, plot or something. But do you wanna know what really gets annoying? The SAME ROOMS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Call this a Visual Novel with how much the same rooms are used for 80% of the time you view this show. Some examples include Amane's home, and the school. Those are practically the only (Major) locations that the characters are, which really gets old after seeing the same back to back, 100 times in a row each episode. It's like the producers couldn't think of any other locations to draw out the story, or said "Nah, two major locations are perfect for this, it means we can save money!!" and that is it. Now for a little positive thoughts on the show: This show has an easygoing vibe, that I rarely see in many anime, besides maybe the first few episodes of "Banished From The Hero's Party..." and the "Spice & Wolf" series, and this feeling of a easygoing, slow-moving show is the aspect this anime does with immense success, and it is really it's only major redeeming factor. Past that it really does nothing else to a degree of competence that any other romance can't do. If you do watch it, you might want to get a blanket, you will probably feel bored of the same things repeating for each episode, so maybe do something worthwhile with that time and get some sleep. if you want, then hit this with a reaction 💀. I like internet points.
