Healers have always been a pivotal part of the Kingdom of Herzeth, but becoming one requires an official license, which demands years of studying. Despite growing up poor, a pragmatic young man, Zenos, taught himself everything about healing. As an exceptional healer, Zenos was even recruited by an adventurer party but eventually kicked out. When he meets and helps an elf slave named Lily, he realizes his new ambition: he wants to open a clinic in the shadows, serving those who may otherwise be cast aside. Zenos starts his underground practice alongside Lily, but he is immediately pulled into a conflict between lizardmen, werewolves, and orcs—which he quickly resolves and unites the races, thanks to his healing abilities. However, when the royal knights hear rumors of his recent accomplishments and are less than pleased, Zenos must find a way to continue his operations without compromising his principles. DO NOT JUDGE THIS ANIME BY THE FIRST EPISODE! The first episode makes it seem like it's just going to be another generic harem slop anime, but episode 2 onwards is COMPLETELY different. I honestly don't know why they decided to structure it like this. In fact, I reckon you can completely skip episode 1, and start watching straight from episode 2. This is because episode 1 happens "in the future", and episode 2 is the actual start of the story. So yeah, just save episode 1 for after you finish watching the anime. Or don't. It doesn't really matter. Just make sure you watch episode2 as well, because it's a lot better and actually makes you feel like watching the rest of the show.
“The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows” is what happens when a good idea is butchered by incompetent writing. I don’t think there is another way to put it so here it goes: This show is a self-jerk fest. The protagonist is a boring, blank slate with no personality except what a 13 year old would think is cool. And I probably insulted a lot of 13 year olds right now. There are no stakes at all in all 12 episodes. There is no real point in watching this show. There is no story, no morals, no lessons… Well, there is one: “Always get paid forYour work”. Honestly? It’s not the worst lesson, but the way it is introduced is really lazy. Actually that term can be used to describe all of the plot, it’s full of cliches, overused tropes and lacks anything that could be called original. There are some twists, mostly towards the end, and almost all in the last 2 episodes but they are the effect of bad writing and not planning anything instead of organic progression and setups. That said, before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page… I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them: “What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.” “STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”. I’ll start with this: The idea is top notch, the execution… utter garbage. Despite having really good ideas about the locations, faction interactions and character dynamics the show decides to ignore all that and just rush everything. The result? Everything is flat and devoid of meaning and stakes. The worst offender? The incident that was the catalyst of the whole show. So picture this. You have an adventuring party. This party has a healer (I will omit other types of magic the MC can use). One healer. Despite that the whole 5 man party leaves every encounter without a scratch. Ok, so You might be an idiot and think that it’s all because of everyone but the healer. So You get rid of the healer. See the problem? Let me count them: 1. Why the fuck would You think that the healer does nothing, when Your party is fighting beasts that are considered dangerous of almost everyone, and get out of it without a scratch? Let me accent that part. “WITHOUT A SCRATCH” 2. It’s healer. Healer. Do live in a place when healers have sway and can be used for political gain. 3.Llooking at it more utilitarian, a healer is a walking health potion and “Oh crap, I fucked up” button. Even if You think (I’m being really generous here with that word) that he’s useless, having him in a party in case You need him is a far better option than not having him when shit hits the fan. Those are just the 3 problems that are the most obvious ( I don’t want to make this too long after all). Listen. I get it. You need to have a healer with a tragic backstory (because of course You do. You are a writer with no skill or imagination so You just take the most pathetic trope for MC You can) and have him make something of himself. Ok. I get that. The idea is solid. So why in 9 circles of hell do you give him everything from the get go? Our MC - Zenos has the skills and mannerism of someone towards the end of his journey. Someone who should be at the verge of evolving from an actor to a mentor. Yet the writers put him in an actor position. But he has nothing to gain, no real goal to stride for. He has everything internally and is given everything externally on a silver platter. You want a genius MC? Fine. I’m all for it. But give him something to strive for. He has no real challenges, no one on his level who could act as his antithesis and give him a proper conflict. Honestly? I get why the MC seems bored all the time. He has nothing to strive for. Not all MCs must start with a goal. You can have them wander around the world for a bit, but at some point, sooner rather than later, the main character must have a goal. You could make an argument (a pretty bad one but still) that running his clinic is his goal. Ok, fine. Then make him do that instead of dealing with shit not connected to the damn place. Him beign unawareness of just how powerful he is is a pathetic trope in this case. Anyone in the slums could tell him his healing is on a whole nother level, but they don't. Why? Because they want to keep him in the slums? The world is presented in a way that even if others knew about him he still would have been better staging there so there is no real reason for it. And even if someone would want to get him, that alone would make a far better plot point than the conflicts he is given. The show has three, almost competently set up, conflicts. The first one is the tension between factions in the slums. The second is Zenos’s encounter with his old party and the consequences of it. The last one is the mystery at the end of the show. They are not bad ideas. The problem lies with the execution of them. Each and everyone of them could carry a 12 episode show organically and with ease if given a competent writer. But, since the show doesn’t have one, everything is resolved almost by a deus ex machina (aka Zenos pulling out something out of his ass with no setup. Well… that’s not entirely true. There is small information that hints of his abilities in the first episode but because this is a soft, very soft magic system they are not exactly reliable) in max 3 episodes. 1 in the case of a battle with the BBEG. Each of these conflicts could organically yield at least 5 episodes. There is a place in them for proper interactions, drama and world building. Especially the first one. The tension in the slums was set up as some sort of feud that lasted for years and was resolved… in about 5 minutes. No proper confrontation between the leaders, no negotiations, not even a damn lazy ceasefire and declaring the clinic a neutral zone. Nothing. 5 minutes and everyone, and everything, is daijoubu. No. Just… just no. Eff off. Of course no one dies or has any meaningful injuries because that would require a writer that can write above the level of a 13 year old, writing fan fiction. This premise alone should have been our gateway into the world. Showing us (not just telling) how the slums work, what’s the hierarchy, how different factions interact with each other and the basis of their conflict. But all we get is “They don’t like each other”. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? A competent writer could have made all 12 episodes about that premise with a satisfying, organic ending. But why do that? Let’s give our white bread with no taste MC a harem of idiots. That is another problem with the show. Everyone is an idiot in one way or the other. The MC has a harem and either doesn't get it or pretends to not get it, the faction leaders all want to jump on Zeno’s healing staff to the point it seems they don’t even manage their factions and I am not even touching, with a 50 meter pole, the subject of a kid elf in love with him. They are all one character with just slight differences that don’t differentiate them from each other much. Also they are pointless to the plot after the first 3 episodes. Everything that happens would happen even without them so why keep them? At least give them some role or function that would justify their existence in the show. No, it’s not comic relief. “Comic relief” implies that something should be funny. Everything in this show is just so childish. Someone need a new arm? Yeah, no problem, lie down and I’ll just cut it off and in 3 minutes You’ll be good as new. What? Infections? I have magic. A giant Golem, a creature of fierce power, is destroying the slums and wants to kill me? Yeah. Give me a sec, I’ll have it done in an instant. Oh and nobody has to die. That would create stakes and possible internal crisis and we can’t have that. The writer is too incompetent to write this properly. There is nothing in this show that would create a sense of danger, loss, hell, it can’t even properly convey a feeling of gain. It’s just so boring and sterile. The MC starts out as a powerhouse with little to no personality and ends as a powerhouse with little to no personality but with a harem. The show has no sense of progression and I think that’s the thing that kills it. If everything stays the same, why even watch it?
The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows - It's actually better than you'd expect, though as the title alludes, it's not brilliant. For as long as the AniManga industry has existed and churned out titles that have quickly become sub-genres of their very own, one such trope that always seems to make its resurgence time and time again is this "banished from the hero's party," though its execution will differ based on the story beats and how authors choose to execute their creations on the plate that's the deciding factor between mediocrity and decency (I don't even bother to mention good or bad, because what'sthe use of the metric at this point?). Some can be rather ludicrous, and others can be plain and simple and worth at least a watch (even if they aren't good to begin with), and one such case to prove is novelist Sakaku Hishikawa's Isshun de Chiryou shiteita no ni Yakudatazu to Tsuihousareta Tensai Chiyushi, Yami Healer to shite Tanoshiku Ikiru (or Yami Healer in its shortened form), a.k.a. The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows: a story that, while not original, at least has a soul that I think is worth a second look compared to other 3rd-rate shows of similar stature. The setting of an unremarkable young boy living in the slums and growing like many of the marked "diseased" kids that are only destined for death, as the typical fantasy societal differences between nobles and commoners put it, gets quite the boost learning of a power that reigns supreme in the kingdom, a skill that is only used to benefit oneself and impoverish all others: Healers. And this has to be certified by the kingdom itself before official licenses can be given out to show that the chosen people are "called" to be as such. However, this young boy learns it differently from a "wise mysterious man" who teaches him the skill willy-nilly, and as he grows up, he gets the attention of just about any adventuring party that requires Healers because of the reputation they bring. However, the young boy, now a young man, being in aid of the party he's attending, gets booted out unceremoniously not because of him, but because of their inability to recognize who he truly is and what he can do for them. So, back to the slums where he came from, and his reputation is built from the broken buildings and dirty streets, with the help of some people he saved and managed to get their trust in him to uphold an underground clinic to earn his keep, that functions more like an actual clinic than those found right in the kingdom itself. This is the story of Zenos and his newfound "harem party" of girls and creatures of all sorts living in the slums of the Kingdom of Herzeth, which at least has somewhat of a semblance of potential plot devices, go figure. From the outset, Zenos as a character is a lot more profound and not average, as many people would think he is. Despite his hidden self always wanting an unremarkable life where he'd work and earn his pay appropriately, his "New Life in the Shadows" begins to show more of what's truly underneath the substance of the rather unremarkable character. What you would find from Zenos is that he's a largely no-nonsense guy who acts on what he is told to do, and despite toughening out on the growing notoriety of the people he'd interact with, his calm, collected, and coolheaded politeness is matched with his intelligence and professionalism as an underground Healer who is exactly the "you get what you get" treatment. He doesn't come around for people who (un)intentionally waste his precious time, because it's time that he could've spent saving lives instead of just parading like a fool. He's the Healer for the People, not for the arrogant and prideful man. Alas, of all the characters Zenos could've gotten for help, it had to be a "harem party" of girls of all sorts who idolize and love him, yet also give him ample respect for his utmost dedication to the slums and their kin, despite him always constantly nitpicking at their obvious advances on him, given his being skeptical and naive at times. Starting with the girl he saved from slavery, Lily is the typical elf girl that easily could be the target of slave traders, and the need for Zenos to be her saviour "just feels right" enough for her to therefore work as his close attendant and skilled chef. The abandoned mansion in the slums is also home to the wraith girl of Carmilla, though when both Zenos and Lily "attempt" to raid her home, she finds that she's no match for the underground Healer and concedes the ground floor for their clinic operations. But none can be compared to the rowdiness of the slums' Big 3 leaders of the demihuman gangs: the lizardkin of Zophia the Tornado, the wolf beastkin of Lynga the Tyrant, and the ogress of Loewe the Mighty. Each leader with their unique circumstances, finds themselves being at the mercy of Zenos's hands, whether it be with the healing of their own kin or that the intense rivalry of the 3 gangs has him put on a pedestal to decide his standing in the slums (which he eventually becomes their big boss). Not to forget, there is an unexpected ally from the kingdom with "Iron Rose" Krishna, whose operations allude to when she first investigated the slums' happenings of peacetime rather than the standard and expected rivalry and soon finds herself being a ditz when it comes to the underground Healer himself. All in all, it definitely feels like a cheap way to get any form of characterization, but at least there is a sense of purpose in each and every existence that affects Zenos in one way or another, and I'd rather take a story like this and just wing it as a mildly enjoyable work than suffer through one that just doesn't work for whatever reason. The surprise bit that I find with Yami Healer is in the animation department. Not that it is good, mind you, but it's at least better than the likes of similar 3rd-rate studios we've seen for quite some time. And all of this is coming from the rather new studio of Makaria (with production assistance from Luminas), which has the bold act of debuting with 2 shows this season (this and Zatsu Tabi: That's Journey) for a start. I am definitely looking forward to more opportunities for the new studio's offerings to be released in the future. The music is decent, though I will say that it doesn't really stand out much in the way of trying to overshadow the fantasy elements. Sure, the one selling point of Yami Healer is its homemade harem, and that's where the music complements it best. But otherwise, both of J-Pop rock band bokula's OP and solo female artist sorato's ED, being debut Anisongs at that (which is a few of the many new debuting artists this Spring season), are honestly OK and nothing memorable, just alright. To you, the reader, you might think that I'm giving Yami Healer a.k.a The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows the benefit of the doubt, and I really do want to come out as positive as my own watching experience with the anime itself. It has potential for a growing plot, and I would appreciate it if Zenos actually had a sense of manhood within him (though I'd be hard-pressed on how to improve his character more), and the harem is generally a mess, but a good kind of mess to begin with. It's easy to just "switch off the brain" and watch Yami Healer, because this is the ONLY brilliant way you'll get some enjoyment out of this generic but better-than-expected fantasy anime. And yes, let's just leave it at that, OK?
Audience surrogate protagonist that is always right, but misjudged by his peers for dumb reasons. Although all the girls like him. Overwhelming, all-encompassing power that transforms all straits and crises meant to force this ambitionless protagonist forward into just minor chores that make him leave his house for 15 minutes. A whole cast of literal cardboard cutout characters that don't matter and bring nothing to the story, and who have no story to tell of their own, and any philosophical/societal stances they take are ridiculously moronic if they differ from protagonists (read. from audiences) point of view. Minimal worldbuilding of "medieval class-based society with magic", that can't decideif the main thing wrong with society is nobility or wealth disparity. So yes, it's a weak anime. However, if you need that dose of power fantasy, and mainly care for a super duper powerful guy you can self-instert as, it should be a good watch. There is much to poke at, but there are no irredeemably bad things in it. >IMPORTANT< if you plan to give it a try, watch order is from episode 2-12, then episode 1 (episode 1 takes place at least after the rest of the plot, and is completely unrelated plot-wise to the rest [because there's no plot, to be honest]).
I personally like anime's where the mc is overpowered but doesn't flaunt it or get cocky. Zenos, the mc, is just a chill guy who will heal anyone who asks (as long as they pay a fee) and has come to gain many allies with his attuned skills. Some could say that a downside to this anime is that Zenos seems to accidentally have created a harem for himself, HOWEVER, Zenos does not entertain these women in anyway nor does he get flustered like other mcs, and the women that follow Zenos are not overly sexualised so I'd this feature can be overlooked. I would ratethis anime a strong 8/10. Fun watch, especially with how creative the mc's abilities is used in some episodes.
If you're looking for anime with similar stories and concepts, you'll find a few out there. However, most of them typically have poor execution. This one, though, I personally think has a story executed well enough to enjoy. I'm not saying it's amazing, but it's decent enough to watch compared to other similar anime. The story itself is pretty light and doesn't drag on too much, which makes it easy for me just to chill and enjoy it. The visuals are also quite good, especially since they don't use a lot of CGI or 3D animation that would mess things up. As for the music, I'dsay it's good, especially the opening and ending songs. So, if you're just looking for some casual entertainment, this anime might be a good fit. The story, in my opinion, is pretty mid and not worth diving deep into. But the viewing experience it offers is enough to help me take a break from my busy day.
Honestly I went in to this show thinking it'd just be another generic fantasy anime that had nothing to offer, however I enjoyed my time with this show more than I expected "The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows" is a decent anime, nothing special, it has it's typical cliché stuff you'd expect from harem related anime but I quite enjoyed the characters both design wise and personalities even if rather simple, it is a good show overall and would love to see the story continue in a possible second season. If you are looking for a masterpiece of a anime, this isn't thatbut it is a very enjoyable one to sit back and watch if you haven't got any bigger more impactful shows to watch currently. Therefore as much as I would like to recommend it, there are things in the show which may turn off people looking for something more than just a decent show to watch with it's simple story beats and cliché traits seen in other animes in these genres.
I almost dropped it after episode 6 because of how bland and bad it was. Then I remembered I have no life, no self-respect, and I'm to lazy to do anything meaningful, so watched the rest of the episodes too. There's a limit to how many times you can view your top 20 favorite series before you need to watch something else. I don't get how this has nearly the same rating as "Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru" from the same season. It definitely doesn't deserve a serious review... is what I wrote after viewing 6 episodes and giving it a lenient "high 3".After watching the rest, I slightly changed my mind and now give it a lenient low 4. If you're out of things to watch and rewatch, and you hate your life only a little, maybe this is actually watchable. The top positive review says to skip the first episode and watch the second episode instead, and there is truth to that, however episodes 3-6 aren't *that* big of an improvement. The main focus is on the harem that covers most of the preference spectrum (various races, ages, hair colors, designs*) and the OP MC who doesn't know how OP he is. The anime does a terrible job at both, with not much semblance of a story. From episode ~7 and onwards, there is some slightly interesting story starting, enough to not hate yourself for watching. However, it still remains a bad series at its core. The number of characters nearly doubles, and of course we don't get much information about anyone, no back stories, motivations, goals - not even the MC. The focus is on trying to cast a wide net, but there is no sense of direction. Some tiny mystery bits around episodes ~9-12 are also poorly executed. The animation is bad. It's not filled with bad CGI or completely frozen pictures (the mouths of zoomed-out characters do move!), but nobody would accuse them of having fluid animation. It's consistently subpar, but at some points it stands out more than others. For example there are scenes where you can clearly see that a character "slides" out of the picture, or instead of an actual attack animation you get a few black frames with a white "X" in the middle, or that the walk animations feel unnatural**. Btw, all three of these were in the same episode. Music/sound didn't stand out which can be a good thing depending on how you view it, art is... well, it cannot be called art at this point but it's mostly what you would expect from most second- and third-rate shows. The "best" / most hyped scenes fell pretty flat too. I'll close by repeating what I said before: it doesn't make sense that this has nearly the same rating as "Katainaka no Ossan". I don't even think that one is great on its own, it's the comparison with trash tier anime like Yami Healer that makes the former stand out so much in my eyes. Yami Healer is at best a D-tier series if you're a trash viewer like me (probably F-tier otherwise), so make sure to view other higher-rated shows before this one. And as far as healer anime go, "Parallel World Pharmacy" and "The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic" are better too. When you're done with all of these, Yami Healer is fine, I guess. * The harem includes a former slave elf child that calls herself MC's wife and worries about her breast size, LIDL Delta, IKEA Shion, ara ara mommy, and the somewhat sane lizard lady. ** It's not as bad as the "Ningen Fushin stairs" scene, but not more than 20-30% better either.
Another genetic anime from the "someone got fired again" craze. The first ep. came across as pure filler to me, since nothing happened in it except for the introduction of the harem. And then it started in the classic way. The MC got fired, he saves the elf who loves him to the core, then the harem starts to come and heal him gradually. Every woman falls in love with him and they basically start to pester him. Harem is my least favorite genre so I don't need it, since women were the classic genetic characters (which is a well-worn song after x years andit would finally change). And that's just the first 3 ep. Then Krishna appears here, who pretends to be a typical knightly character fighting for the rights of the oppressed, but I would rather call her a walking random word generator, because everything she said didn't make sense. Somewhere in the middle it moves to the school of healers, where finally his harem can't and so I finally have peace. There appears a nose up there, who when it comes to breaking bread annoys the MC to save him and when he saves him it's the same again. The only thing I liked was the OP. The plot was weak and the harem was already boring. So for me, overall boring.
The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows. is story which lot like recent Anime's where protagonist isn't aware of how he is. Nowadays there are lot of OP characters but this feels kind of justified. Main character is kicked out of party opens a clinic finds out he is OP over the span of 12 Episodes. He of course becomes famous. and of course defies common sense of his world by having multiple power. pretty standard. here comes the good part, unlike others the story is unique. You may think " I know the villain" but you will be surprised. it has 2arcs both are good. the first Episode is waste totally. Tries to be funny but isn't. but what I like is he uses his abilities. unlike some anime where they show OP has abilities but never shows them. it doesn't feel long or stretched. so its balanced. so if you are fantasy, Overpower character lover this is a good one.
An anime about a healer getting kicked out of a party for being seen as useless, and then having a fateful encounter and starting a clinic in the slums. I want to start by saying that I am proud of myself that I realized it is a new studio first real production right from the get go, from episode 1! Will explain a bit later... Also, be warned that the presentation of the anime is a weird one, where episode 2 is actually the start of the anime, and episode 1 is just like a filler showcasing the state after the events in the rest ofthe season... so don't drop it after episode one because it feels like they drop you in the middle of a story and don't explain anything. Yes, again, another healer getting kicked out of the party for being seen as useless... feels like I've watched so many lately that it deserves it's own genre title at this point, if it doesn't have one already. Yes, he is kicked out, yes the party thinks he was useless and not doing anything, but actually he was carrying the party, yes he is instead very OP, yes he is dense and even though everyone says that he's amazing and can do things like no one else, he still thinks of himself as just your average joe healer, yes he gets a harem, even speedrunnning it, yes every girl falls for him, yes he has the personality of a stone and even talks like one. Basically, it has all the elements that the other 1000 other healer stories have. Story is not amazing, as basically there isn't really much of a big narrative, it's mostly events that come and go, events that can be predicted very easily, sometimes even putting everything in front of you like those moments where the characters suddenly talk about some obscure thing that nobody would even think about, and then 2 minutes later you see that thing creating an event for the MC. What were the odds?! Eh... If you start thinking about the story, it is absurd and doesn't make much sense a lot of times, with quite a few plot holes. Also, quite a few arcs do try to teach you some "philosophical life lessons" at the end of them... but they're not very well done and barely hit anything besides maybe a bit of cringe... those moments don't last long though, at least there's that. Characters are quite a few, and diverse... in species. Personality wise? They stay the same and are already known stereotypes. So don't expect much on that front. I like some of their designs though... can't say I like much the little elf kid and the way they portray their relation... yes, it's one of those animes... But good thing that the MC is so dense that even when told directly that all the girls that keep coming and staying with him are in love with him he will just shrug and say that's impossible, he's just a normal healer. Carmilla best girl btw. Regarding how I realized it is a new studio, the art and presentation felt... weird. Uncanny. The art has lows and ups, but mostly stays low. Like a lot of still images where only the mouth moves, but then a fight comes and bam, you can see where the money went. Too bad there weren't that many of those high budget moments, guess it was because they have 2 animes this season... And the presentation of the events does feel like it is a bit rough, rushing moments, slowing down others... it has no consistent pacing, sometimes even in the same moment. But it's not much of a critique, just an observation. It's good enough for what it seems to me that it wants to achieve. So why watch it if everything is overused plot points and characters? Because it is dumb fun. That's it. That's the main attraction point for this whole anime imho. It is something to watch after coming home from work or had a hard day and want just something relaxing, that makes you smile and can even make you laugh at times. It's main point is comedy, especially from the absurdity of the events and the MC's monotone voice and behavior. For me at least, it worked pretty well. Story: 6 -- The story is pretty basic and absurd, which does help the comedy part. But if you pay a bit of attention to it, it does have quite a few plotholes... but again, from my opinion, it's a story that was made to enhance the dumb fun aspect of the anime. Art: 6 -- High and lows, mostly lows. Some moments are top tier, but too few, and the rest are... really meh. Music: 7 -- Okayish music. Characters: 7 -- Basic characters, MC is OP and fully dense and doesn't understand how powerful he is, even when told directly. Carmilla though is the best Enjoyment: 7 -- I had a good time with it all together, especially because I wanted an easy watch with good vibes. Overall: 7 Right now it has 6.86 from 32.659 votes Ranked #5079 Popularity #2312 Members 97,588 as of 26/06/2025. I recommend this anime to people that want to watch a comedy anime, especially a dumb fun one, that just want to relax and chill. Do not go expecting any revolutionary deep story, with complex elements, as you'll be severely disappointed. It's just another one that you watch and most likely forget.
I knew this show was going to go downhill the moment he went to that stupid school. The whole draw of the show is that the guy's a rebel. He gives criminals medical attention and has to keep his medical practice discreet, because he's unlicensed. Kept things interesting despite the whole "OP MC doesn't know he's OP and he has a harem" cliche. Putting him in some boring school, with annoying characters, a boring plot, and a way-too-forgiving conclusion for a villain dropped this from a 6 to barely a 5. Another case of an interesting premise being fed tothe fantasy trope machine.
I rate anything based on how entertaining it was, first and foremost, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Is it complex, deep, thought-provoking, and/or poignant? Not really, no. Did it need to be? Not necessarily. It was funny, had some excellent waifu deisigns, and passed the time during meals. It doesn't seem like this was ever meant to be the next big thing, but aren't there always shows like this? I've dropped plenty of shows for being generic slop, so I don't blame you if you don't like it, but some reviews just seemed a bit harsh. Turn your brain off, have a laugh.
Yami Healer sets itself up with a premise that sounds at least mildly different — a fantasy-medical mix where the protagonist runs a clinic in the shadows, treating those society would rather ignore. On paper, there’s room for drama, tension, and some clever problem-solving. In practice, though, what you get is a cast of shallow characters, a plot with all the depth of a puddle, and production values that often look like they were stretched too thin. The tone is a mix of fantasy adventure with harem-lite elements and a dash of comedy, but the humor never really lands. Most of the jokes and tropes arerecycled so often they lose whatever charm they might’ve had the first time. The pacing is serviceable — it doesn’t drag — but there’s rarely a sense of genuine stakes. Conflicts, whether between fantasy races or against monsters, feel trivial because Zenos, the main character, is absurdly overpowered. More than once, characters exist purely to dump exposition rather than contribute meaningfully to the story. Zenos himself is a chill, naive self-insert type, never truly tested or challenged. The one character who stood out was Carmilla, a wraith with a quirky fondness for him — she had more personality in her limited screen time than the rest of the main cast. Visually, the show struggles. The art style is generic, facial expressions and backgrounds often stay static for longer than they should, and fight scenes rely heavily on convenient cuts instead of actual choreography. That said, there are rare moments where the animation steps up — such as Zenos regenerating an arm in episode two, or the fight against a zombie monster later in the series. These glimpses only highlight how flat the rest of it feels. On the audio side, the soundtrack is perfectly serviceable but entirely forgettable, blending into the background without much impact. Voice acting is competent across the board, but there’s nothing here that elevates the material. In the end, Yami Healer isn’t terrible — it’s just a “nothingburger.” It’s the sort of show you can put on, half-watch, and mildly enjoy without ever needing to think too hard about what’s happening. If you’re after deep storytelling, rich characters, or standout animation, you won’t find it here. But if you just want a light fantasy romp with a wildly overpowered healer at the center, it might be worth a casual spin. Overall rating: 5/10
Honestly, I feel kinda conflicted by this anime. This anime brings a really simple plot to the table, and it doesn't really have any 'plot' to begin with, as stated by one of the people who reviewed this anime. But then again, Sometimes, that is what EXACTLY some people are looking for. If you're looking to watch just a 'generic' anime, with good music to begin and end with, and a somewhat nice party of characters to 'relate' to, I personally recommend it. Even though I wouldn't consider this 'good writing' per se, but it is a 'good' anime. Good enough for you to enjoyduring your leisure, when you don't really want to get into an anime with a huge plot and really complicated characters.
It's been a while since I watched this type of anime, so I indulge myself in this anime. Now, after watching this, it felt refreshing since it was a story-driven anime. I thought it would be one of those very over-the-top anime where the protagonists are as stupid as h*ll but somehow, someway, got b*tchies following him. But this guy felt like Sakuta from Bunny Girl Senpai, and I'm f*ck with those kinds of guy. How did I find this? CawcawTV. Yup, a YouTuber, more specifically a reaction YouTuber. I saw him watching this anime and got curious, turns out the anime was uploaded on the Anione Asia channelon YouTube for free. So, I watched the anime along with him. Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?) Do I have to say? Look at those girls, man. Their designs are magnificent, gorgeous, and beautiful. But I was quickly realizing that the anime does not focus on building a harem, like other anime in the same genre as this anime. That's why I kept on going. Platform I have mentioned that this anime is uploaded for free on Anione Asia Channel on YouTube, but this anime also aired on other platforms such as Bahamut Anime Crazy (Taiwan), Bilibili Global, Crunchyroll, and Netflix. The review; Plot/Story Simple. MC got banished from his party, and he grew as a person to... well, actually, he doesn't even want to get his revenge; he just wants to live normally. But then, things happen, and he basically felt like a side character among all the surrounding characters to grow. The only thing that the MC wants is to live happily while running a clinic in the slum. There is a bigger plot to this anime with how the MC is trying to find his master and how the big bad intervenes in his slow life, but I think that can be done... If there will be a season 2. Character While I said there isn't much about the MC, I felt like that's also wrong. My man reminds me of Kitamura Koe from Cross Game, Amane from Angel Next Door, and, ofc, Sakuta from Bunny Girl Senpai. He just doesn't give a f*ck, though he will give a f*ck whenever there is someone needs his healing power... for a price. Lol Other than him, I don't see a lot of things going on with other characters. They grow, like I said, when they get corrected by the MC, but that's it. Though I really want to say, Carmilla, she is one of, if not the best, narrator of anime of all time. This wraith is not only cute, but also so mischievous. Her little teasing of Zenos and narrating his... harem is so good at making me laugh. She is like my spirit animal now. Too bad she never possessed someone. I would really like it if the author had a story where Carmilla finally gets a body; that would be great. OST/SFX This is just... bad. The OP is a mess. I have never been so disappointed with an anime opening that makes me skip the OP completely. It's garbage. I hate the OP. The ED, however, is godlike. It is so calming, and not to mention it is so unique because the ED shows every single character that appeared on the show and does a showcase of them doing their daily lives. It felt like they added a new layer of storytelling to the character we already know. And the SFX of the anime itself, I'm just going to give 2 thumbs up like I always do. Animation It's 50/50. Sometimes it's great, other times it's bad. I think it would be better if the studio didn't do 2 anime at once in the season. This anime would be better if they were focusing on this anime only. I haven't seen the other one per se, but I can imagine it also has that up and down in the animation production. VA 2 thumbs up. Lol, yeah, that's it. Conclusion The good; I'm glad to check this anime out. Very nice way to get back to this genre of anime. The bad; It is very unlikely this anime gets season 2, so I have to probably buy/pirate the manga or LN if I ever want to see a continuation. Gratitude Thanks to Anione Asia for providing this anime for free to view on YouTube. Your work is amazing, keep up the good work. Overall 7.4/10. Would recommend.
This show is Redo of Healer's less extreme cousin. Our healer protagonist was abused by his old party of jerkasses despite his immense abilities, and this drives him to remake his life. Along the way he'll do several things. First, he'll establish a harem of attractive anime girls -- though this will be of the "flirty status quo" variety rather than the "exposed flopping breasts and ahegao faces" kind. The lizard lady in particualr has the same english VA as Frieren, so that's interesting. He'll also get revenge on those who wronged him, though it won't be as major of a focus as RoH. Tobe honest, this series doesn't do anything particularly interesting. It's a straight-line Tetris block wiping out 4 rows of demand for adventure x harem anime content. If you're not interested in that by itself, then I doubt you'll find much that's worthwhile in this show. The first 6 episodes in particular are basically nothing but checking off tropes one-by-one: establishing the harem, freeing a slave or two, getting a bit of revenge, some power fantasy, a hot springs scene, the whole works. As someone who *is* interested in this genre, I can report that this show is competent enough, though it's clearly unambitious. Things get a bit more unique in episodes 7-12, though I'd still hardly call it groundbreaking. It knows exactly what it wants to be and hardly deviates from that. I can appreciate the honesty and earnestness.
